These are the daily tech headlines for the week ending Saturday, April 11, 2026. I'm Sarah Lane. Let's catch up on the news. Bloomberg sources say Wall street banks including Goldman Sachs and Citigroup are joining JP Morgan Chase to test Claude Mythos internally as US Officials push financial institutions to evaluate the model's ability to identify software vulnerabilities. Additional banks are reported to gain access soon, reflecting growing government interest in using advanced AI tools to strengthen cybersecurity defenses across critical sectors. OpenAI set a GitHub workflow to sign macOS apps downloaded a compromised update from the widely used Axios library after attackers hijacked a developer account and pushed malicious versions. This could have exposed a signing certificate that potentially letting attackers create convincing fake OpenAI apps. The company says it has no evidence of abuse or data compromise. Google linked the broader campaign to a North Korean group. OpenAI is revoking affected certificates and dropping support for older macOS apps as a precaution. A suspect was arrested after allegedly throwing a molotov cocktail at OpenAI CEO Sam Altman's house, then making threats outside OpenAI's San Francisco headquarters. The device caused minimal damage and no injuries and the individual is now in custody. OpenAI says it's cooperating with law enforcement and increased security around its offices. France announced plans to shift some government systems from Microsoft Windows to Linux to reduce reliance on U.S. tech and regain control over its data and infrastructure, starting with its digital agency. Dinum or Denim. No official timeline yet, but France framed the move as part of a broader digital sovereignty push amid geopolitical tensions and concerns about dependence on American providers. It has already replaced Microsoft Teams with a French built alternative. Dutch regulators approved Tesla's full self driving supervised software for use on public roads. That marks Tesla's first authorization in Europe after more than 18 months of testing. The system still requires human oversight, but the Dutch authority plans to seek EU wide approval which could expand adoption and support Tesla's sales in the region. Amazon's Luna platform is getting an overhaul. The company is eliminating game purchases, third party stores and subscriptions starting this month with access to previously bought titles ending on June 10th. Users will need an external platform like Ubisoft or Electronic Arts to play those games and purchases are non refundable. Amazon says it's shifting toward a subscription and prime based model. The move has obviously raised some questions about Luna's long term success. According to a subpoena seen by the Intercept, federal prosecutors have ordered Reddit to appear before a grand jury as part of an effort to identify an anonymous user who criticized ICE after a prior subpoena attempt failed in court. The request seeks a lot of user data, raising concerns from civil liberties groups that the government is escalating efforts to unmask protected political speech under the guise of a criminal investigation. Reddit says it scrutinizes such requests and only provides the minimum required data. Anthropic has signed a multi year deal to use data center capacity from CoreWeave to support growing demand for its Claude models. The agreement gives Anthropic access to US based infrastructure powered by Nvidia chips, expanding its ability to train and deploy AI systems at scale. This is just the latest in increasing competition for compute resources as AI companies ramp up model developments. New data from Counterpoint Research shows global smartphone shipments fell 6% year over year in Q1 of 2026, driven by DRAM and NAND shortages and higher costs and weak consumer demand tied to economic uncertainty and Middle east tensions. Apple led the market for the first time in a first quarter with 21% share and 5% growth. Samsung declined 6%. Xiaomi dropped 19%. The report says memory constraints may persist through next year, pushing OEMs towards premium devices, fewer launches and more reliance on services and and refurbished phones. Garmin appears to be developing a new fitness band called Circa that's C I R Q A that could compete with Whoop Style screen, free wearables based on a trademark filing and earlier leaks. The device is said to have metrics like stress recovery, alertness and performance, indicating a focus on deeper health insights rather than a standard smartphone watch. Earlier this week we told you Fitbit is also exploring similar devices and and AI driven health coaching.
