Meta is launching its AI chatbot across WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram and Messenger in 41 European countries and 21 overseas territories this week, nearly a year after delaying its rollout in the region. Although Meta AI debuted in the US in 2023, its European launch was postpone. Ireland's privacy regulator requested a delay in training the assistant on content from Facebook and Instagram users. Meta also paused the release of its multimodal llama AI model in the EU due to regulatory concerns. For now, Meta AI in Europe will be limited to text based chat features. Microsoft is developing a new Windows 11 feature to explain how RAM and GPU limitations impact PC performance. Unofficially discovered in the latest Dev Channel build, this FAQ section within the system settings addresses queries about GPU memory system RAM and OS versions. Although not officially acknowledged by Microsoft, this currently hidden feature requires manual enabling in the latest preview builds. The EU Commission has announced preliminary findings that Google Search and the Play Store are in breach of the Digital Markets Act. The DMA prohibits self preferencing and other anti competitive practices. The EU alleges that Google favors its own services and search results and unfairly prevents app developers from directing users to alternative app stores or payment options. Google has made some changes in response to the dma, but the Commission believes that they are in insufficient if found in breach, Google could face fines of up to 10% of its global annual turnover. Google claims that the EU's demands will harm consumers and businesses, while the EU maintains its commitment to fair competition and a level playing field. The outcome of the investigation is still pending and Google will have the opportunity to respond to the findings. Verizon will now support sending text messages via satellite on Pixel 9 and Galaxy S25 phones using their existing satellite connectivity. The service, available when outside of terrestrial cellular networks, will have limit other satellite tools and may not be fully functional for up to two weeks. Apple's Messages via Satellite, while not reliant on carriers, provides a comparable model. Verizon has partnered with AST Space Mobile for its satellite services and is exploring options like video calls competing with T Mobile's Starlink based satellite messaging. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang stated on Wednesday that his company had not been approached about purchasing a stake in Intel. Speaking at Nvidia's annual developer conference in San Jose, California, Huang denied involvement in a reported with TSMC to acquire intel, joking that nobody invited me and suggesting he was unaware of any such initiative. Earlier this month, Reuters reported that TSMC had approached Nvidia, Broadcom and AMD about investing in a joint venture to manage intel factories, while other reports indicated intel, with support from US President Donald Trump, was considering separating its manufacturing operations under a consortium involving tsmc. The newsletter platform Ghost, an open source alternative to Substack, has integrated with the Fediverse. This integration utilizes the Activity Pub protocol, which powers federated apps like Mastodon and Pixelfed. By connecting to the Fediverse, Ghost enables its publishers to share their blog posts seamlessly across various federated platforms, expanding their reach and engagement. Ghost had announced its plans for Activity Pub integration last year, and this development now allows its users to interact with a wider audience within the open social web. Discord, the gaming centric voice and chat app, is introducing third party ads to its mobile platform starting in June 2025. A mobile pilot for Videoquest will launch, enabling users to earn rewards by watching video ads. This follows the successful rollout of VideoQuest on PC and consoles last year. Peter Sellis, Discord's product leader, views this expansion as a natural progression in their strategy to create an authentic player centric advertising platform, providing brand partners access to Discord's engaged mobile audience and fostering meaningful connections with the Tesla is recalling 46,096 Cybertruck vehicles in the United States due to a defect that may cause an exterior stainless steel trim panel known as the Cant Rail to detach from the vehicle while driving. This recall is the latest in a series of callbacks for the Cybertruck since last year. To remedy this issue, Tesla's service will replace the rail assembly free of charge. TikTok is introducing real time Amber Alerts directly to users for you feeds in the United States. The alerts will appear if an Amber Alert is activated by law enforcement and the user is within the designated search area as determined by the user's device's IP address. And finally, Windows 11 users will be able to type with their Xbox controllers thanks to a new gamepad keyboard from Microsoft. The keyboard features shortcuts designed for an Xbox controller, such as using X for backspace, Y for spacebar, and the menu button for Enter. These are the same shortcuts used in the Xbox Dashboard and will improve the overall experience of navigating and typing on the Windows 11 on screen keyboard with a controller.
