Google's Gemini Live, a conversational AI chatbot that answers questions about camera views or screen shares, is now available on Pixel 9 series phones and Samsung Galaxy S25 devices. Shopify CEO Toby Lutke, in a memo sent to employees late last month, stated that teams must demonstrate why they cannot accomplish their goals using AI before requesting additional personnel or resources. Lutke encouraged employees to consider the potential impact of autonomous AI agents on their work, emphasizing that reflexive AI usage is now the baseline expectation at Shopify. He acknowledged the rapid transformation of AI has brought to the work process and stressed the importance of actively using AI to develop proficiency in this essential skill. Meta is launching teen accounts on Facebook and Messenger, automatically enrolling young users into the app experience with built in protections. The feature will be available in the U.S. uK, Australia and Canada before expanding to other regions. Teen accounts were first introduced on Instagram last September after U.S. lawmakers criticized social networks for insufficient teen protection. Meta also announced new built in protections for teen accounts on Instagram as part of the teen account's expansion to Facebook and Messenger. US Chip maker Micron Technology will implement a surcharge on some products starting Wednesday due to the tariffs announced by President Trump. The surcharge will apply to memory modules and solid state drives, but not semiconductors, which are exempt from the tariffs. Micron has informed its US Customers about the surcharge, which is intended to offset the cost of the tariffs. The company has most of its overseas manufacturing sites in Asia, including China, Taiwan, Japan, Malaysia and Singapore. Amazon's Nova Reel AI video model has been significantly enhanced with the Release of version 1.1. The upgrade allows the model to generate videos up to two minutes in length, composed of a series of six second shots. Additionally, the new multi shot manual mode provides users with greater control over the video composition process by referencing an image and providing a prompt. Users can guide the AI model to generate videos with up to 20 individual shots, enabling more precise and tailored video outputs. Nintendo Switch 2 users will be able to play games using game key cards, which will trigger a download of the game rather than containing the game's data. Concerns arose that game key cards would be tied to the user's Nintendo account, impacting resale value. However, it has been confirmed that game key cards are not account locked and can be used on any Switch 2 console. Apple is reportedly considering a temporary solution to avoid the new 54% tariffs on Chinese goods by increasing iPhone imports from India, which has a proposed tariff of only 26%. This strategy aims to buy Apple time while Apple negotiates an exemption with the Trump administration as a major supply chain shift away from China is not yet desirable for the company without a reduction in tariffs. And if Apple continues to import from China, the cost of an iPhone 16 Pro could increase by $300 due to the new tariffs. Ahmad Al Dali, VP of Generative AI at Meta, denied rumors that the company manipulated AI benchmark results by training its Llama 4 Maverick and Llama 4 Scout models on test sets. Training on assets, which are used to evaluate a model's performance after training, could falsely inflate benchmark scores. The unsubstantiated rumor originated from a post on a Chinese social media site where a user claimed to have resigned from Meta in a protest over alleged benchmarking practices. And finally, Apple Stores saw a surge of customers over the weekend, all worried about potential price hikes due to new tariffs. People were practically panicked buying iPhones, with many directly asking staff if prices were going up. Employees said that stores were swamped with anxious shoppers asking questions, but unfortunately the the company hadn't given them any instructions on how to address these concerns. A significant number of iPhones are made in China, which might face a big 54% tariff, explaining everyone's concern. Rob Dunewood begins the segment by announcing Google's latest advancement in artificial intelligence: the launch of Gemini Live, a conversational AI chatbot. Gemini Live is designed to assist users with real-time questions about camera views, screen shares, and even offers product comparisons and styling advice on shopping websites.

The update will soon extend to other Android devices, though activation of the full-featured live video function requires a paid Gemini advance subscription. Users can easily access these capabilities by pressing a designated button and interacting with the AI for various assistance needs.

Continuing the discussion, Dunewood highlights a transformative move by Shopify CEO Toby Lutke. In a memo sent to employees, Lutke mandates that teams must demonstrate why they cannot achieve their goals using AI before seeking additional resources or personnel. This directive underscores the company's commitment to integrating artificial intelligence into its operations.
"Reflexive AI usage is now the baseline expectation at Shopify." — Rob Dunewood [01:44]
Lutke emphasizes that mastering AI is not just an advantage but a standard expectation, urging employees to harness AI's potential to streamline workflows and enhance productivity. This approach aims to foster a culture of innovation and adaptability within the organization.

A significant portion of the episode focuses on Meta's initiative to introduce teen accounts on its platforms, Facebook and Messenger. Building on the success of teen accounts launched on Instagram last September, Meta aims to automatically enroll young users into these protected environments.
"Meta is launching teen accounts on Facebook and Messenger, automatically enrolling young users into the app experience with built-in protections." — Rob Dunewood [01:44]
This rollout addresses previous criticisms from U.S. lawmakers regarding insufficient protections for teenage users on social networks. The feature will initially be available in the U.S., U.K., Australia, and Canada, with plans for expansion to other regions. Enhanced built-in protections aim to create a safer online space for teens, aligning with regulatory expectations and societal concerns.

Dunewood reports that Micron Technology, a leading U.S. chipmaker, is implementing a surcharge on select products in response to new tariffs introduced by the previous administration under President Trump.
"Micron will implement a surcharge on some products starting Wednesday due to the tariffs announced by President Trump." — Rob Dunewood [01:44]
The surcharge specifically targets memory modules and solid-state drives, while semiconductors remain exempt. This measure aims to offset the increased costs imposed by the tariffs. Micron's extensive manufacturing footprint across Asia—including countries like China, Taiwan, Japan, Malaysia, and Singapore—plays a pivotal role in their strategic response to these economic challenges.

Amazon has unveiled version 1.1 of its Nova Reel AI video model, marking a significant enhancement in their AI-driven video generation capabilities.

The upgraded model allows users to generate videos up to two minutes in length, composed of multiple six-second shots. By referencing images and providing specific prompts, users can guide the AI to create videos with up to 20 individual shots, resulting in more precise and personalized video content.

Nintendo is innovating the way games are accessed on the Switch 2 console through the introduction of game key cards.
"Nintendo Switch 2 users will be able to play games using game key cards, which will trigger a download of the game rather than containing the game's data." — Rob Dunewood [01:44]
Instead of storing game data on the card, these key cards initiate a download of the game directly to the console. Initially, there were concerns that these key cards might be tied to individual Nintendo accounts, potentially affecting their resale value. However, Nintendo has clarified that the game key cards are not account-locked, allowing them to be used interchangeably across any Switch 2 console, thus preserving their resale and sharing potential.

Facing a 54% tariff on Chinese imports, Apple is reportedly exploring temporary solutions to mitigate the financial impact. One such strategy involves increasing iPhone imports from India, where the proposed tariff stands at a more manageable 26%.
"Apple is reportedly considering a temporary solution to avoid the new 54% tariffs on Chinese goods by increasing iPhone imports from India." — Rob Dunewood [01:44]
This approach aims to provide Apple with additional time to negotiate an exemption with the Trump administration, as a comprehensive supply chain shift away from China is currently undesirable. Without such strategies, the cost of an iPhone 16 Pro could surge by approximately $300 due to these new tariffs, raising concerns among consumers and stakeholders alike.
Timestamp: [01:44]
Addressing recent rumors, Ahmad Al Dali, VP of Generative AI at Meta, has denied allegations that the company manipulated AI benchmark results. The controversy centers around claims that Meta's Llama 4 Maverick and Llama 4 Scout models were trained on test sets, thereby artificially inflating benchmark scores.
"Ahmad Al Dali, VP of Generative AI at Meta, denied rumors that the company manipulated AI benchmark results." — Rob Dunewood [01:44]
These unsubstantiated claims originated from a post on a Chinese social media platform by a user asserting resignation in protest over these alleged practices. Meta has firmly rejected these accusations, maintaining the integrity of its AI development processes and dismissing the rumors as baseless.

The episode concludes with a report on the increased foot traffic in Apple Stores over the weekend, driven by consumer anxiety over potential price hikes due to new tariffs on Chinese-manufactured iPhones.
"Apple Stores saw a surge of customers over the weekend, all worried about potential price hikes due to new tariffs." — Rob Dunewood [01:44]
Shoppers were observed panicking and directly questioning store staff about imminent price increases. However, employees were reportedly uninstructed on how to address these concerns, leading to heightened frustration and confusion among the customer base. The substantial volume of anxious shoppers underscores the consumer uncertainty surrounding Apple's supply chain strategies and pricing policies in the wake of escalating tariffs.
