These are the daily tech headlines for Tuesday, September 23, 2025 Rob I'm Rob Dunwood. Nvidia plans to invest up to $100 billion in OpenAI to build large data centers for AI model training and operation. This investment, which could involve chips, cloud credits or cash, aims to deploy 10 gigawatts of Nvidia systems for OpenAI's next generation AI infrastructure, potentially reducing OpenAI's reliance on Microsoft and solidifying Nvidia's role as a strategic compute and networking partner. Google is integrating its Gemini Assistant into specific Google TV smart TVs, replacing the current Google Assistant. This upgrade provides more natural language interactions for content, discovery, trip planning and complex questions. Available in models like the TCL QM9K series and others later this year. Gemini enables free flowing conversations and follow up questions covering both entertainment and general curies. Users can activate Gemini by saying hey Google. Or pressing the microphone button on their remote. Meta has created a new super pac, the American Technology Excellence Project, with a multimillion dollar investment to combat restrictive AI and tech policy bills at the state level. As federal AI regulation is unlikely, the PAC will support state candidates from both parties who favor AI development, the US Tech industry and parental control over children's online AI interactions. This aligns with the broader trend of tech companies forming PACs to influence AI regulation despite state level legislative complexities. The European Union is formally requesting information from Apple, Google, Microsoft and booking holdings under the Digital Services act to assess their efforts in preventing online scams and financial fraud on their platforms. Regulators will examine how Apple and Google manage fraudulent apps in their app stores, how Google and Microsoft handle fake search results, and how Booking addresses fake accommodation listings. The scrutiny, prompted by an increase in online criminal activity, could lead to official investigations and significant fines if the companies are found to be inadequately tackling illegal content. Google recently unveiled several updates to the Play Store, focusing on enhanced personalization and user management. These updates introduce a redesigned Apps tab, a new Play Games experience and an interest based tab. Additionally, new features powered by Gemini AI will be integrated building upon previous additions like a Streaming Shows tab and collections for categorizing apps and games into groups such as Shop, Watch and Listen. Arish Mahboud, Google Play Games VP and General Manager, provided details on these changes. Taiwan has restricted chip exports to South Africa, citing national security concerns and leveraging its market dominance to pressure a country allied with China. This move, requiring pre approval for most chip sales, came after South Africa attempted to downgrade and relocate Taiwan's representative office. The decision underscores Taiwan's economic influence and its frustration with diplomatic marginalization by Beijing, particularly as Taiwan's semiconductor manufacturing company produces most of the world's advanced chips. Amazon.com has announced the closure of all 19 of its Amazon Fresh UK convenience grocery stores less than five years after entering the market, with five locations slated for conversion to the Whole Foods Market brand. The company, which introduced Walk out technology in Britain allowing customers to bypass checkout lines, stated that the decision to proposed these closures on Tuesday was difficult and came after evaluating the business and significant growth opportunities in online delivery. Meta is enhancing Facebook dating with an AI assistant to improve user matching and profile refinement. They are also launching Meet Cute, a weekly surprise match feature to address swipe fatigue While Facebook dating has seen some growth among young adults, it still lags behind competitors like Tinder and Hinge. AI features are becoming standard in dating apps, with companies like Match Group and Bumble heavily investing in AI for features such as AI photo selectors, AI powered matching, and even AI compatibility screening. And finally, Google is integrating Gemini Live into Android gaming via Play Game Sidekick, an in game overlay offering a helpful coach during Play Store games. This feature provides a movable handle that opens a panel with options for screenshots, screen recording, YouTube streaming, do not Disturb and a Start Gemini Live button. Activating Gemini Live shares the screen and offers in game guidance, guidance, verbal tips and support, eliminating the need to leave the game for external help.
