These are the daily tech headlines for Tuesday, June 9, 2026. I'm Rob Dunwood. OpenAI has confidently filed for a U.S. initial public offering to capitalize on strong investor interest in AI, though the company has not yet set a timeline or disclosed the offering's terms, citing advantages to remaining private for the time being. While the exact debut date remains uncertain, reports suggest the company is aiming for a valuation as as $1 trillion and could potentially go public as early as September. The U.S. federal Communications Commission granted Amazon an extension on its LEO satellite Constellation deployment deadline, citing the public interest in fostering a second major broadband competitor. Although Amazon faced opposition from SpaceX regarding the delay, the FCC allowed the waiver due to the rocket launch availability issues that hindered Amazon's progress. Amazon must now forfeit its priority Status for post July 2026 launches requiring proof of its oper interfere with competitors like SpaceX, even as the company strives to maintain its ultimate goal of full satellite constellation by 2029 and a commercial service launch later this year. European Union regulators have rejected Apple's request for an 18 month exemption from Digital Markets act interoperability obligations, prompting Apple to delay the rollout of its upgraded Siri AI in the European Union. While Apple cited privacy and security concerns regarding compliance, the European Commission disputed these claims, stating that the company fel develop necessary interoperability solutions and that the decision to withhold the product is Apple's own. Microsoft has suspended approximately 70 of its open source GitHub repositories, including those for Azure and AI integration tools like VS Code, following a security breach where attackers injected password harvesting malware while the company is conducting an internal audit and notifying potentially impacted customers. The incident highlights a concerning rise in supply chain attacks targeting high value developer environments. This branch, which remains under investigation, marks Microsoft's second major open source security lapse in recent weeks. Underscoring the ongoing challenges in securing widely used development pipelines, Instagram has launched a global update allowing users to manually reorganize their profile grids, moving beyond the traditional reverse chronological layout following a limited test. The feature, which enables users to long press and reposition posts, fulfills a long standing promise from Instagram head Adamsary to provide creators with greater control over their profile aesthetics. Though pinned content remains fixed at the top, Google has reduced the price of its entry level AI subscription to $5 per month, down from $8, while simultaneously doubling the included cloud storage to 400GB. The updated plan now provides access to Gemini 3 Pro, NanoBananaPro deep research and several new features including AI powered email tools, a new Daily Brief agent and the Gemini Omni model, with current subscribers scheduled to see these changes reflected in their upcoming billing cycles and storage allocations. In other Google news, the company has updated its NotebookLM research tool, transitioning the Gemini 3.5 model and introducing anti gravity powered research capabilities. The update allows users to build knowledge bases by chatting with the tool, which now suggests relevant sources and offers enhanced flexibility with new output formats including data visualizations, documents and structured data alongside features for output, editing and transparent research steps. These updates are currently available to Google AI Ultra users and select Workspace business customers. The U.S. department of Defense has updated its list of entities linked to the Chinese military, now including major firms like Alibaba, Baidu, CXMT and ymtc, which prevents the Pentagon from contracting with them directly or utilizing their services through third parties. Despite recent diplomatic efforts, technology sector tensions persist with bipartisan US Lawmakers urging further restrictions on Chinese access to custom chips from manufacturers like tsa. Additionally, Taiwan is considering mirroring these US Regulations by potentially restricting high power AI chip sales to all Chinese clients, further complicating the cross border technology landscape. And finally, Apple is enhancing App store discovery through personalized recommendations and app notes based on user behavior, while simultaneously launching new tools for developers to improve engagement and monetization. These updates include support for rich media and product headers, a centralized asset library for marketing, and new commercial capabilities like multi developer subscription bundles and multi user in app purchase options aimed at helping developers adapt to an increasingly competitive and mature app ecosystem.
