OpenAI has launched ChatGPT Gov, a new platform specifically designed for U.S. government use, which builds upon the security features of ChatGPT Enterprise. This new product enables government agencies to input sensitive data into OpenAI's models while maintaining the security of their own hosting environments. Since the start of 2024, over 90,000 government employees at various levels have utilized ChatGPT to generate over 18 million prompts for tasks such as document translation and summarization, policy memo drafting, co generation and application development. Visa and the social media platform X have established a partnership to facilitate direct payment solutions for X users. This collaboration will allow users to instantly fund their X Wallet, connect debit cards for peer to peer payments, and instantly transfer funds between their X Money account and their bank account. This move aligns with X owner Elon Musk's vision of transforming X into an everything app that offers a wide array of services, including payments and Visa is the first partner for the X Money account. Apple has patched an actively exploited zero day, affecting iPhones, Macs and other Apple hardware. The vulnerability, tracked as CVE2025 24085, has been described as a use after free bug in the core component that could permit a malicious application already installed on a device to elevate privileges. The issue has been addressed with improved memory management on devices running the latest versions of iOS and iPados, macOS, Sequoia, TVOS, Vision OS and WatchOS. Spotify announced on Tuesday that it has paid $10 billion to the music industry in 2024, bringing its total payouts to almost $60 billion since its launch. The International Federation of Phonographic Industry reports that there are over 500 million paying music streaming customers globally, and Spotify has more than half of them, with over 252 million subscribers as of Q3 2024. Spotify said that more than 60% of its current users were in its ad supported free tier. Google announced on Monday that it will rename the Gulf of Mexico, the Gulf of America and the Alaskan mountain Denali to Mount McKinley in Google Maps, following updates from official government sources. This decision comes after President Donald Trump signed an executive order last week mandating these name changes on official Maps and federal communications. Google stated that it has a long standing practice of implementing name changes once they have been updated in official government sources. President Trump disclosed to reporters on Monday that Microsoft is in talks to acquire TikTok and that he encourages a bidding war for the app. Microsoft declined to comment, and TikTok and ByteDance did not respond to requests for comment. Last week, Trump stated that he was in talks with multiple parties about buying TikTok and expected a decision within 30 days. Trump had also indicated that he would be open to Elon Musk buying the social media app, but Musk has not publicly commented on this as of yet. BlueSky's latest software update adds a dedicated video tab on user profiles, allowing for easy viewing of all played videos, both original and shared. This feature builds upon bluesky's Pivot to Video, which also includes the recent introduction of trending videos on mobile, a vertical video feed similar to TikTok, YouTube shorts, and Instagram reels in addition to the dedicated video tab. BlueSky Update 1.97 also streamlines the process to block folks who pop up in DMs and offers translation improvements. Microsoft is introducing a new tool called Scareware Blocker, which leverages machine learning and computer vision to combat a widespread online scam known as Scareware. This type of scam, prevalent since the early days of the Internet, often involves fake antivirus software that falsely claims to detect threats on a user's device, tricking them into installing malicious programs or purchasing unnecessary software. Microsoft first teased the blocker at its Ignite conference in November, but it's now calling on users to help test the feature through a preview program in its Edge browser. And finally, pebble founder Eric Migykowski, who started the Smartwatch company on Kickstarter back in 2012 before selling it to Fitbit in 2016, which was bought by Google in 2021, is getting back into the Smartwatch game. Majikowski was able to convince Google to open source the now defunct pebble operating system and is in the early stages of prototyping a new watch and spinning up a company again under a to be announced new name.
