Are the Daily Tech Headlines for Friday, December 6, 2024. I'm Rob Dunwood. OpenAI is looking to remove a stipulation from its corporate structure which limits the value of its partnership with Microsoft because it voids Microsoft's access to AG once OpenAI achieves it. OpenAI defines AGI, or artificial general Intelligence, as a highly autonomous system that outperforms humans at most economically valuable work. Simply put, AGI could unlock many billions of dollars of future investment with Microsoft, who has already pumped $13 billion into the company. With OpenAI restructuring to become a public benefit Corporation, a departure from its not for profit origins. The concern for AGI being misused for corporate purposes by Big Tech is not as great. Telegram, the cross platform messaging service, is taking a significant step to reduce child sexual abuse material or CSAM on the platform. It's partnering with the International Watch foundation, or iwf, which works with social media platforms, tech companies, governments and more to prevent the spread of csam. Telegram's membership in the IWF allows it to utilize tools to block access to links containing CSAM and other non photographic harmful content including AI generated images. The IWF also provides Telegram with hashes of known CSAM content and any other harmful content it detects. Uber and We Ride have launched a commercial robo taxi service in Abu Dhabi, marking Uber's first international autonomous vehicle offering. The partnership between the ride hailing giant and the Chinese autonomous vehicle company went public on the Nasdaq in late October. Neither Uber nor We Ride shared how many vehicles would hit Abu Dhabi streets initially. The first rollout will take place between Saadiyat Island, Yas island and along routes to and from Zayed International Airport, with plans to expand in the future. A Brazilian court has overturned an injunction imposed on Apple's App Store that would have forced the company to enable side loading on iOS for Brazilian users within 20 days. A Brazilian federal court judge ruled that the decision by Kadje, the Brazilian regulator, is disproportionate and unnecessary and changes in a sensitive and structural way. Apple's business operation Quick Share, Google's feature that allows users to send and receive files between nearby devices, now supports QR codes, allowing Quick Share users to share files with anyone without having to fiddle around with privacy settings. To use the new Quick Share QR code feature, simply share a file from your Android device, select Quick Share and press QR code. The QR code will be displayed on your screen that anyone, even iOS users, can access. Microsoft has confirmed that it is in production on the Surface Studio 2 Plus, its Ultra Premium all in one desktop PC designed for creators and commercial customers. Inventory of the Surface Studio 2 Plus began falling out of stock weeks ago, and today Microsoft confirmed that it has no plans to restock the unit, meaning production of the Surface Studio 2 Plus has ended. Ubisoft's future ownership is up for discussion. The founding Guillemot family, who hold the biggest stake in the company, is exploring buyout options with investors like Tencent. Their goal? To take Ubisoft private without giving up control. Tencent, currently the second largest shareholder in Ubisoft and China's biggest social network and gaming firm, has yet to decide whether to participate in the buyout and increase its stake in the company. A federal appeals court has ruled that TikTok can be banned in the US due to national security concerns. The court upheld a law requiring the app to divest its Chinese ownership to continue operating in the country. The decision rejected arguments by the app and several of its star users that a ban would violate free speech rights. The the sell or ban law, signed by President Biden in April, passed with bipartisan support after lawmakers received classified briefings from the intelligence community about China's ability to use TikTok to surveil Americans and spread Chinese propaganda. And finally, Google Photos now has its own version of Spotify wrapped Google today announced the 2024 recap, a presentation feature that combines a collection of photos and insights with graphics and cinematic effects that summarize what users have been doing over the last 12 months. The recap will appear in the Google Photos Memories carousel throughout December before relocating to the Photo Grid in January, and it can be shared to messaging and social media apps.
