On Tuesday, OpenAI posted how last week's reported intrusion on Hugging Face was an unprecedented cyber incident that occurred during a test of the GPT 5.6 SOL model. Alongside a model still undergoing internal testing. OpenAI's breakdown says the model quote successfully found ways to gain access to secret information that it could use to cheat the evaluation. The Hugging Face security team and the company's own AI agents then detected and halted the intrusion. Hugging Face's chief executive believes there was no malicious intent from OpenAI over the incident. France's parliament passed a law banning under 15s from accessing social media, a first for an EU member nation. Beginning September 1, all under 15s will be banned from creating any new social media accounts, and phase two involves all existing social media accounts held by under 15s to be deleted on January 1, 2027. Also included in the text is extending a ban on cell phones in class to high schools, which was already in place for primary and middle schools. The law still needs to be reviewed by France's Constitutional Council. Jack Dorsey's Block announced Buzz, a new app designed to reduce our dependency on Slack and GitHub, and Buzz is model agnostic, decentralized, self sovereign and open source. Among the companies Block operates are Square, Cash app and Tidal. The Buzz free desktop app is available now for Windows, Linux and macOS, and the code is also available on GitHub. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple is preparing to launch a leasing program called Apple Upgrade with digital payment group Klarna. Expected to launch on July 28, the program would allow users to lease an iPhone or Apple Watch for a 24 month term, with Mac and iPad plans lasting 36 months. Some product models, like the MacBook Neo are expected to be excluded from the program. Users sign on to a monthly subscription, can upgrade to a new model during the term and decide to keep the device or return it at the end, Bloomberg reports. The Apple Upgrade program differs from the existing iPhone upgrade program as it will not include AppleCare. Following a 404 Media report earlier in July, Apple has now fixed the Hide my email vulnerability that unveiled a user's real email address, 404media notes. Apple was aware of the vulnerability for over a year. On July 17, PCMag covered a proposed class action suit in California over Apple's lack of communication regarding the security flaw while continuing to charge for access to the feature. Co founder of Easy Opt Out's Tyler Murphy first discovered and communicated the security issue to Apple in June 2025, which persisted despite Apple's claims to Murphy that the company was looking into it. French music streaming Service Deezer announced AI music comprised more than 50% of music uploads for the first time in the company's history in June, reaching a new monthly average of 90,000 tracks. Deezer will now take down AI tracks used for streaming fraud and those that haven't been streamed for at least six months. Deezer began tagging albums that include AI in June 2025, and though streams for those tracks only accounted for 1 to 3% of total streams overall, 85% of those were fraudulent, Reuters reports. The nonprofit in charge of licensing for the intellectual property from the University of Tennessee filed suit in Delaware federal court against Anthropic alleging patent infringement. Specifically, the suit claims Anthropic's AI systems are violating the patents on machine learning technology inspired by neuroscience. An Anthropic spokesperson responded to the suit saying, we disagree with the allegations and intend to defend this case vigorously. Instagram is implementing a Replace Audio feature to let users change the in app music selections on previously published posts, leaving existing likes and comments intact. This is an improvement on an update in May, enabling edits to publish stories that did delete likes, reactions and comments, and gamefile reports. Nintendo has requested the court dismiss a class action lawsuit filed in April of this year which demanded Nintendo return US tariff fees to customers. In April 2025, Nintendo implemented price increases to various products as a response to US Tariffs and changes in market conditions. In Nintendo's filing, the company says plaintiffs are not entitled to a rebate simply because of intervening legal developments related to tariffs and if a consumer did not want to pay the advertised price, they were free to abstain from purchasing the product or seek out competing products.
