Sarah Lane
These are the daily tech headlines for Wednesday, February 11, 2026. I'm Sarah Lane, T Mobile said in a press release it plans to launch a beta this spring for live translation, an AI feature that translates regular phone calls into more than 50 languages in real time without requiring an app. Because it runs at the network level, it works on most devices, including older phones, as long as the call uses VO LTE, Von R or VO WiFi. Beta users can activate it by dialing 87 at no extra cost, though T Mobile hasn't said whether it will charge for the feature after the beta. Meta, Tick, Tock and Snap have all agreed to be evaluated under a new teen safety rating system launched by the Mental Health Coalition, which will grade platforms on safety rules, design, moderation and mental health resources. Discord, YouTube, Pinterest, Roblox and Twitch will also participate. The Color Coded Safety Online Standards program will award top performers with with a blue shield badge, while weaker performance receive red ratings. TikTok is rolling out a new local feed in the US that shows nearby content about restaurants, events, shopping, travel and news. Powered by users precise location data. It is available to users 18 or older and off by default and follows terms of service change that allows TikTok to collect more accurate location info. The company says the feed is meant to connect users with local businesses and events, and notes that 7.5 million businesses use the platform globally, citing Oxford Economics. Samsung announced its next Galaxy unpacked event on February 25th in San Francisco, where it's expected to reveal the Galaxy S26 and S26 plus and the S26 Ultra with faster chips, upgraded cameras and new AI features. The event starts at 10am Pacific time and will be live streamed with pre order reservations already open, offering a $30 credit and up to $900 in trade in savings. The British Medical association is urging more than 200,000 UK doctors to avoid non clinical use of the National Health Services Palantir built Federated Data Platform, citing concerns about the company's work with U.S. immigration and Customs Enforcement and its impact on patient trust. The union says the NHS should ultimately move away from Palantir, while the company argues its software supports public services and the NHS says patient data remains under its control. Uber and Baidu will launch fully autonomous ride hailing in Dubai next month, starting in select areas of Jumeirah. Riders can choose Baidu's Apollo Go robo taxis through the Uber app, with expansion planned pending regulatory approval. The move builds on a broader partnership to deploy thousands of Apollo Go vehicles internationally as Uber pushes deeper into the Robotaxi markets. Baidu says Apollo Go has completed more than 17 million riots across 22 cities. A Dutch court ordered an investigation into alleged mismanagement at Chinese owned semiconductor firm Nixpuria and upheld the suspension of its CEO, extending a long running dispute tied to US export controls and European security concerns. This follows government intervention last year to prevent loss to critical chip technology. The case has disrupted automotive supply chains and sparked tensions between European managers and Chinese parent company Wingtech. And finally Today, Apple's new $12.99 per month Creator Studio subscription adds AI powered features and premium content to apps like Keynote Pages, Numbers and Freeform, which have traditionally been free on macOS. The base apps are still free, but users now see upgrade prompts for the paid features, with some folks complaining that ads and subscriptions and Apple's productivity suite feel like a shift toward a more bloatware model.
