In court testimony, Eddy Cue said that Apple plans to add AI search providers like Perplexity and Anthropic to Safari on iPhone, iPad and Mac, though they likely won't be set as defaults. And Google is still the king of search. But Q also said Safari search usage dropped for the first time in April, due at least in part to users turning to AI tools. Apple has a $20 billion annual revenue share from Google searches. As Google faces antitrust scrutiny, Netflix is rolling out a redesign of its Apple TV OS app with easier access to search and my list, more detailed title info and real time recommendations on iOS. It's testing two experimental features, a TikTok style vertical discovery feed and a generative AI powered search tool. The iOS changes are in limited testing for now and the TVOS update will roll out globally over the coming weeks. A US jury has ordered spyware maker NSO Group to pay WhatsApp $167 million in punitive damages and 445,000 in compensatory damages for a 2019 hacking campaign that targeted 1400 users, including journalists and activists. The five year legal battle has WhatsApp, which is owned by Meta, accusing NSO of exploiting a vulnerability in its audio calls. The verdict marks the first major legal win against a spyware company, though NSO says it will appeal. Leaked photos submitted to the Federal Communications Commission suggest an Xbox branded Asus ROG Ally 2 handheld is in the works with a 7 inch, 120Hz LCD, 8 core AMD Ryzen Z 2 extreme chip and 64 gigs of RAM. A regular version reportedly also has a 4 core chip. Both models are said to include USB, C, HDMI and 3.5 millimeter ports. The Xbox variant is said to have a dedicated button that may integrate Xbox Game Bar, Game Pass, ultimate or other Microsoft features. Some US Data center operators are warning that the administration's crackdown on renewable energy, paused federal loans, canceled wind projects and halted development on federal land threatens AI growth by creating energy shortages and raising costs. Demand for power from AI and data centers is on the rise, but delays in renewable deployment and regulatory obstacles are impacting small and midsize players. Amazon unveiled a warehouse robot called Vulcan that can feel touch using a combo of four sensors and AI to handle what the company says is around 75% of items. Vulcan is meant to pick and stow goods delicately, even inside tight compartments, and learns from experience. It's already in use in Washington State and also Germany and expected to expand across the US And Europe. Amazon Web Services plans to invest more than $4 billion to build a new cloud region in Chile by the end of 2026. The data centers will reportedly rely on air cooling and support growing demand for cloud services in Latin America. AWS says the project will boost Chile's digital economy through local hiring and tech training. Xbox games dominated PlayStation's April download charts in both Europe and North America. Top titles included Minecraft, the Oblivion remaster and Forza Horizon 5, with Indiana Jones and Call of Duty Black Ops 6 also getting numbers. Xbox just announced Gears of war remaster for PS5 and the Dark Ages. And finally today, Disney announced plans to open a new tech focused theme park in Abu Dhabi developed and operated by United Arab Emirates based Morale under a licensing agreement with Disney retaining IP ownership but not actually investing capital or even owning the park. No opening day was given, but Disney says it will oversee design and ensure that quality matches its existing parks.
