We're here to help things run smoothly, because a great trip starts with the right support. And, hey, a good playlist doesn't hurt either. My name is Mackenzie, and I started a GoFundMe for the adoptive mother of a nonverbal autistic child. The mother had lost her job because she wasn't able to find adequate care for this autistic child, so she really needed some help with living expenses, paying some back bills. So I launched a GoFundMe to help support them during this crisis, and we raised about $10,000 within just a couple of months. I think that the surprising thing was by telling a clear story and just like, really being very clear about what we needed, we had some really generous donations from people who were really moved by the situation that this family was struggling with. GoFundMe is the world's number one fundraising platform, trusted by over 200 million people. Start. And we are brought to you in partnership with my bookie. I think the feeling on Friday was my fault, by the way, that I got so excited about the possibility of the Bears signing Tyler Linderbaum that you get all worked up and you get all into it, and then it's like the Bears make a move for a center, and it's Garrett Bradbury. Okay. Okay. I mean, I'm. I'm sure it's fine. I'm sure it's fine is kind of where I am. It's probably. It's probably fine. Are we sure? It's fine. It's probably fine.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
No, it's. It's. It's more than fine. And. And, yeah, you got yourself all worked up and, you know, you got.
Dan Bernstein
My fault.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
You pulled all of us into it with my fault. Which is fine. I mean, you could have, you know, your thoughts and speculation on things, but here's the thing. You can't say one day that you. You fully trust Ben Johnson and his staff.
Dan Bernstein
And then. Let me finish. Let me finish. That was my. The next word I had written down was trust. Okay? And that is where trust comes in now. And that is the other side of. Of the coin to say, all right. Even if it's something that doesn't exactly pump my nads, that I can feel like they know what they're doing, they've earned the benefit of the doubt. There's no question. After last year and after specifically what they did with the offensive line, and as much as we're bringing up the name Joe Tuney because he and Bradbury shared, what, two years of college together at NC State. I think that's right. And say, well, they know each other. They can. They can work the choreography together, and they're familiar with each other. This guy is a proven, durable pro. Bernstein, you're the guy that talks about durability all the time. Are you answering the bill? Are you there? Can you be relied on? And if the answer is yes, that's a big deal. But it might just be the success, not of Tuney, but of the guy in Bradbury's other side. The fact that Jonah Jackson performed the way he did with a lot of people wondering, well, you know, this guy was really, really bad out here in la, and I don't know what they see in him. That, to me, is the example that it may engender a little bit more of that trust here. And if they say, this guy's going to be there for every snap, this guy is a seasoned pro that has seen everything, and you can stick him right between a. The. The. What is it? Protector of the year or whatever. That, yes, like, the best offensive lineman in the world and a guy who had a pretty damn good year himself on the other side and trust that he can do the job, I'm okay with it. Still, there was that feeling of, oh, okay, all right. It took me. I had a little adjustment period. I had to kind of get over my disappointment that they didn't go out and make a massive splash. But there's other things to do. There are other possibilities. I'm not going to get too down about anything regarding the Bears right now. They have about just under $27 million left to play with at this point in the. So what are we in now? We're in the legal tampering period. Because before we were in the illegal tampering period, that wasn't quite legal. Even though it is kind of legal to announce that you intend to do something legally during the legal time that's illegal. And then we'll have the actual free agent period that starts on the 11th.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Well, and then now you can. You can actually talk to players that. I read that correctly, that you can, like, interview like a video call or a phone call with one player an hour. Something strange but very detailed. So that's great. Yeah, you have your. Your legal tampering is. Is open right now until. Until Wednesday when it all becomes official. Yeah, the tampling.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah, I'm glad. That's ill. That's always illegal. Tampling is right out there. There should be no tampering legally. No tampling.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
You done? I mean, are you done? Because I'll just. I'll shit over every time you start over a word, too. That's fine. I mean, seriously, you want to talk Bears football, you want to talk about tambling? No, I'm not. I'm just like. I'm. I'm good, man. I'm not going to get all worked up over a guy that didn't sign, so.
Dan Bernstein
You good? I just keep looking at our shirts and I'm waiting to see what time our boat leaves.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
You know what? Okay, so I got to be honest now. I'll be honest with you. I. I heard about half of what you just said because I was staring at your shirt going, is that one of fishing shirts from dicks? So my mind got totally distracted from.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
And then I knew I. I always wear them, so. Yep. All right, fine. This is what we're doing now.
Dan Bernstein
Are we doing hood top?
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
All right, then some point.
Dan Bernstein
Yo. There's a squall out there today, so
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
I missed about half of what you said.
Dan Bernstein
So. Sorry. I just. I'm just waiting. It's like, well, you know, we gotta. We gotta get the. We gotta get the bait. Would you. Did you pay for a half a full day?
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Well, no, we've already gone.
Dan Bernstein
We're back already.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
We already did our. Yeah, we.
Dan Bernstein
We think. Yeah, the morning trips back, man. Oh, morning trips back. We got everything back in time for the show. Everything's all cleaned. We put it into Ziploc bags. We took their pictures and Got everything out of the ice chest? Yep, everything.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
The whole thing with Bradbury. The guy started every game since I
Dan Bernstein
took my hood off, by the way. You can take your hood off.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Oh, sorry. Oh, that's my gap. I don't know if something's going to fall on top of me. Who knows what's going to happen? So he started every game since he got drafted. We agreed last week in talking about it, that the Bears, you know, bring a veteran center in. If you're going to add a left tackle, you would add the rookie there and, you know, build and work through that. So you get a veteran guy. I trust Ben Johnson, Dan Roshar, what they're going to do. Obviously the guy fits the run scheme as well. He gave up zero sacks last year in pass protection. So fine. Like, I'm good. I'm going to. I'm going to trust Ben Johnson, Ryan Poles in this decision and that it's all going to work out for the good. And with another year of Caleb Williams having that experience under Ben Johnson's offense, fine. Yeah. Would it have been great to have Tyler Linderbaum? Yeah, I jumped on that train, too. That sounded great. But if you get a guy that can play for you every game and still run your offense effectively and score a lot of points and you do it for less money, that's the. That's. That's the best case.
Dan Bernstein
Well, I think also the rule to remember, too, is no move is in a vacuum right now and to have. Correct.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Yes.
Dan Bernstein
And there's a. There's a lot that's going to happen in the next week. And as they get closer to the draft and it's important to think about, okay, if. If Bradbury is just good enough this year, good enough that you can. And they. They have to make that decision. Can you win a Super bowl with Garrett Bradbury as your starting center? And if the answer is yes right now, that's fine. And then we'll see if there's somebody in the middle or late rounds that is going to be in the pipeline as a backup or to learn behind him. Or is that Luke Newman? Is it possible that he didn't get enough practice reps at center? And maybe that's the decision and we don't know it yet, but they very well may say, all right, it is time now to begin in earnest the project of getting Luke Newman ready for this to be his job.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Yeah. No, you're. You're exactly correct on that. That that could be their thinking. We don't know that Just yet. And they maybe said, Luke Newman's not ready to take over day one. We do need a guy, and here's a guy that fits what our scheme is. And financially it works because we couldn't do Linderbaum. And let's say they're looking at Trey Hendrickson, but now with Bradbury, maybe they're looking at, you know, we just don't know what the other dominoes are that will fall based on this signing of Bradbury. So again, I'm going to trust Ben Johnson and Ryan Poles to get this done in a way that's going to make this team win not only the division, but compete for a Super bowl in 2026.
Dan Bernstein
And there's all kinds of names out there for pass rusher after Trey Hendrickson. And there's one that excites me a little bit more than others. And maybe I'm crazy, but there are. There are dudes, you know, we had talked. What is it two weeks ago. About the Khalil Mack possibility.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Yeah. And what he chargers for one year. 18.
Dan Bernstein
Man, that's a million dollar a week game check. Yeah, that's what that is.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
That is.
Dan Bernstein
That is a million bucks a week. That's pretty. That, that's pretty sweet at that age to just sort of be at the stage of your career when you. As they used to say about Richard Dent, they'd called him the Colonel because he does one thing and he does it well.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Did I read correctly over the weekend that he is now the highest like has earned the most money of any defensive player ever.
Dan Bernstein
That makes sense. I mean, I'm sure adjusted for inflation, there might be some other names in there, but. Yeah, that makes. Well, look, every team's the caps up to 300 million. Yeah. People should be making a lot of money. Damn it. If the, the teams are making all this money. Papers there. They got the papers there. Damn it. I can show you how much the money they're making. So Hendrickson is obviously the best guy available. He's. He's. Did they ever say exactly what the core muscle surgery was? So he's 31. I don't know if it was an inguinal hernia. Usually when they say anywhere. No, it could be sports hernia, which is fairly routine. But then you got what, Jaylen Phillips, Odafi O Way. And then there's a big group of other guys and the only name where I did a little bit of a double take and thought, you know, age wise, skills wise and price tag. What do you think of AJ Epanessa from the Bills because that to me, as far as a fit for this defense, a cultural fit, as far as high motor.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Yeah.
Dan Bernstein
Good worker. I mean not a spectacular athlete, but certainly at minimum a rotational contributor who's capable of, of big plays at big times.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Yeah, we'll. And he will do the right things at the right times consistently. Yeah. It's not terrible. No. I mean it's not a huge splash, but. No, it's not terrible.
Dan Bernstein
No. I just, I liked him coming out of college and he would, you'd hear his name in some games and I, I just thought it would be. And especially when you look, he's what, 6, 6, 2, 70? You know, he's sort of this prototype guy for this kind of defense that, that they use where it isn't always, it isn't exactly one gap, it isn't exactly two gap where there is a little bit more of a, of a, of a matchup win there that maybe he could be successful and executing. So that, that, that was just one where I gave it a little extra thought.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
It wouldn't be terrible to go into your rotation and then seeing what they add through the draft and. Yeah, I know. It wouldn't be awful. Khil Ma is the highest earning defensive player in NFL history, having surpassed 205 million in total career earnings.
Dan Bernstein
Certain hall of Famer and still effective at this age if he can remain healthy. That's why I kind of thought he'd be a nice fit for the Bears. But there's, there's other names on there.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Good for him.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
One year, 18 mil.
Dan Bernstein
You know, Quiddy Pay, Odafe, Owe Boy, Mafe from the Seahawks.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Yep. You know who's out of contention though is Rashad and Gary apparently. Packers trading him to Dallas for a day three pick.
Dan Bernstein
Okay.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
And he just signed a big deal, didn't he?
Dan Bernstein
That's, that's weird because Dallas is like, take our best pass rusher and give us it. Well, now we need a pass rush. So we're calling you back. And now, now we're going to trade for a pass rusher.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Yeah. So they'll get a little six or seventh round pick out of that trade. So.
Dan Bernstein
Okay. All right. Well, that, that seems so.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
I wonder with that. You know, we talk about the dominoes falling. Is that like the preemptive move to the packers going after Trey Hendrickson? Do they have something in, in the works there? Because you think they would go and add Hendrickson and Parsons together?
Dan Bernstein
I can't tell you. I don't know. I just but at 31, he's just. He's the wrong side of the age curve here. All these. There's a lot of. Of injury possibility. I mean, you. Cameron Jordan is 36. Bosa's hurt all the time. Joey Bosa's 30, and he's.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
I don't want Joey Bosa. I don't.
Dan Bernstein
I don't want to have to root for Joey Bosa because I don't like Joey. Yeah, I just.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
I just don't. I don't want him. I don't think he's going to. Yeah, it's. That's not the guy you want to add if you're trying to win. I'm good on that. You know, I'm. I'm kind of on the fence, too, about Hendrickson.
Dan Bernstein
I just.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
I just don't know. I haven't. I haven't planted my flag and said, yeah, I definitely want the Bears to go after him. You know, I wouldn't be upset about it, but I just. I don't think it's going to be worth the money. I really don't. I think that big contract he's going to get is not going to. Is not going to. Unless you can guarantee me that they win in 2026 with Hendrickson, I just don't want to see him in 27 and 28.
Dan Bernstein
You haven't heard me pound the table for me. Yeah, you haven't. It's. It just seems like a big expenditure for somebody I don't know that I can trust is going to be available.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
I mean, I was more excited about one year with Khalil Mack and whoever you add to the draft and other maybe lower parts in free agency, but then than I would have been for Hendrickson. Again, I just. I just don't see it being beneficial in. In, you know, two or three years.
Dan Bernstein

I just. There wasn't a real draw. There was some baseball that I enjoyed and I just liked having baseball on that was really nice. Having like a window cracked open and baseball on that was.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Did you watch World Baseball Classic or you watch spring training games or the
Dan Bernstein
first game of the US And Great Britain was ridiculous. I mean, the defensive plays are being made, Trace Thompson jumping into the stands to make a play. But I did watch that entire Bulls game last night from start to finish, and I have no idea what the Bulls are trying to accomplish right now.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
That's what I said to you the other day. That's what I asked you. What's like, what's the point of all this?
Dan Bernstein
Okay, get.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Get it, dude.
Dan Bernstein
Get the good players out of the game late when you've got a loss in hand that what happened in Phoenix is inexcusable. You can't let that happen. You can't let Colin Sexton go win games on the road out West. Understand what the point was. Commit to something here. The whole point of this was to start losing, to increase your opportunity to get one of the top three picks this year. And they're not even doing that right. I'm not asking coaches to Tank. I'm not asking players to tank. I'm not asking them not to try, but I'm asking them to choose which players are on the floor in a way that makes sense. Play your developmental players say, well, we're trying to win games. Gershon, Yabu Selle should not be on the floor. A gimpy Josh, giddy and modest Bou Zealous should not be on the floor late. That's a perfect time for Leonard Miller and Rob Dillingham and everybody else. And I will say that when Sexton left the game with what, just under seven minutes to go, they came back from commercial and Adam Means said something. Well, we've just been told that Colin Sexton, who was, who was dominating the offense of the Bulls, has a lower leg contusion and will be out for the remainder of the game. And I thought, haha, they're finally doing it. Because I wanted, I wanted to see, if I were covering that game, you better believe I would be standing in the locker room and after the locker room to see how Colin Sexton really was. Was he limping? Was he, was he in a boot? Was he on crutches? If he had to come out of the game with a lower leg contusion, does that mean they were doing something right? Hey, Colin, you okay? Yeah. You sure? You sure your leg doesn't hurt? I had seven threes when they took him out.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
He wasn't that hurt. He was hitting those.
Dan Bernstein
He had seven threes when they took, when, when they realized, oh, lower leg contusion. So I would be really interested. I thought that that was to me, that's like the first time I thought that maybe like, hey, hey, hey, we got a, we got a loss to the Kings here. Like this, this is too Precious. You got. Even though they had a guy in the other team named Precious, and there's a rule, by the way, if you watch Precious Achua play every time you hear his name, you must impress you. Don't hurt my dog. Hurt bad. Mr. Needs a vet. Precious. Precious or true. Yeah, it's. I think they might have figured something out last night, but I don't want to give him too much credit because I don't get it. I don't get the player rotations. I don't know who' out there doing things in a game where you've already had two wins in there you should not have had. And last night losing to that team maybe makes up for whatever happened in the Phoenix game.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Well, I'll tell you, the guys that are out there that won't be a part of this future are auditioning for other teams to see them. I mean, like I said, it's like, it's like high end rec ball.
Dan Bernstein
Yep, that's exactly what it looks like.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
It's like five guys that just. All right, you're a team. Go on out there and it's like you get the rebound, then you get a chance to shoot the ball, go after it.
Dan Bernstein
What was the same with the Kings. And remember those guys are putting stuff on tape too. There's guys running around out there who are auditioning and that's all right. I mean, look, the only person who loves watching this is my son who just loves. Loves bums. And I was happy to see Russell Westbrook recapture a little bit of the youth.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
He pretty good last night. Yeah, I know.
Dan Bernstein
Getting.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
He was getting to the rim when he to.
Dan Bernstein
Wanted.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Wanted to.
Dan Bernstein
And how about some of the passes he was making?
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Unbelievable.
Dan Bernstein
Like that's, that's Russell Westbrook. And, and if he is in like the bum slayer portion of his career, great. But, but good for him.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Enjoy it.
Dan Bernstein
Good for him. That, that's, that's an all time great player right there. And every once in a while it's good to see him remember that.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
And I know because he'll wait. He'll climb the ladder. I think he'll earn another spot on all time assists.
Dan Bernstein
I think he will move past Mark Jackson.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Yeah, Mark Jackson. That's who it was. They said. And I didn't realize too Colin Sexton was drafted one notch ahead of Wendell Carter Jr. Yeah, I didn't, I didn't realize he was drafted that high up.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah, that was.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Sexton is right.
Dan Bernstein
He is a. He plays really hard.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
He does. He really does. He does play very hard.
Dan Bernstein
There are. If you, if you kind of look at the Bulls in general, almost all the guys they traded for, with the exception of Anthony Simons, who's hurt, they're all bad. They just. Nobody here that they traded for really matters. I am. I want to see more of Leonard Miller as sort of a back end guy. I am intrigued. But so far I don't really like any of the rest of these guys. I don't know where any of them fit. Just play them. Let's see what we can do. But there's, there's nothing really here that they got that matters. There's. But Sexton is going to be. He can contribute to a good team as a, as a second unit. Go get yours guy.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Yeah, it sounds, it's. Oh yeah, for sure. I think Jones also. Trey Jones do that as well, too.
Dan Bernstein
Well, he. Trey Jones is a winning professional player, is what he is. Trey Jones can. He's got a spot on my roster, and he may not necessarily be the backup point guard. He is a legit backup point guard on a good team, and he might be if he got it. Obviously, if he could shoot that would, you know that that's asking too much, but. Because he can't. But he's a winning basketball player, and I love having him around, but I just don't think he should be playing a lot right now. I don't want to play winning basketball players right now. I want to play losing basketball players right now because I want them losing. Losing makes them more likely to get the really good players that help you win a championship later. And if. Just figure out what you want to do. Bernstein, do you want him to not try? No, no, of course I want the. I want the losing players to try. I want the bad players out there. Giddy can come out and rest. He matters. Boozelis can come out and rest. He matters. Play some of these other schlubs.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Yeah, I was surprised to see Giddy last night when I turned the game on.
Dan Bernstein
Of course you were. Why would he be out there?
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Yeah, I didn't. I didn't think that he was back to being fully healthy, which he probably shouldn't be the rest of this. However many games are left. What do you have left?
Dan Bernstein
Don't, Don't. Don't mess with any of this stuff. You say, thank you. It's been a hell of a year. You're going to be important next year.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Yeah, I would just forget to bring his shoes every game. Josh, sorry, we got no shoes for you.
Dan Bernstein
No, we did. Did we do this again? There we go again. I guess we forgot your shoes. If you have not gotten the app yet, you're really missing out. And you say, well, what app? I got a lot of apps. The 312 sports app for your phone. Because if you get that, it gets you opportunities for all kinds of stuff. Obviously, most importantly, it helps you listen to everything we have here and watch, because you not only get the podcast, but the YouTube videos and everything else, and you can win stuff. So when you get the 312Sports app in the Apple App Store, Google Play, it's absolutely free. Make sure once you get it, you register your account, and then you can win great prizes at the moment. And we refresh these every month at the moment. You can win dinner for two At Rosebud on Rush, the quintessential destination for classic Italian dining in Chicago. I don't need to tell you that. Bub City dinner for two. That's barbecue, whiskey, live country music, Osteria vio stato, the rustic small plate Italian. They got all kinds of wonderful stuff. They're incredible wines by the glass. Dinner for two at those three places. And right now we have tickets to see the Head and the heart in concert May 2 at the Auditorium Theater. Just enter the promo code. Spring on any reward for a chance to win. There are some other goings on in the world of basketball involving two all time broadcasters. One of my favorite human beings on the planet, but we had like veteran broadcasters go wild. One NBA and one college over the weekend that I thought I would highlight here. And the first is my man, 50 grand. My man Stan. My man Stan Van Gundy had thoughts that I did not think would be aired in the way that they were aired. And I thought this would be a bigger story. And maybe it should be a bigger story because Stan Van Gundy, who's doing his usual job of making you a smarter basketball observer as he's describing what happens during the game. So Nicole Jokic against the Lakers, takes the ball away from Jake Laravia. The ball bounces off Laravia. It goes out of bounds. The referee, Ed Malloy, longtime guy, comes, says it's off. Jokic gives the Lakers the ball. So Luka Doncic then knocks down a three, and out of nowhere, Stan Van Gundy comes in and he says, that was clearly off Laravia. Then he says, Ed Malloy is in a little bit of a battle with Nikola Jokic right now. I hate to say it, but it's become personal for Ed Malloy. That was an obvious call. There's no way Ed Malloy missed that call. So when he says that there's no way Ed Malloy missed that call and he's in a battle with Nikola Jokic, that's personal. You don't really have to do too much work to realize he's saying that Ed Malloy missed it on purpose. He's accusing Ed Malloy of tanking a call because he's going after a player. You can't say that without proof. You can't say that without some sort of journalistic work or showing your work or documentation or, you know, evidence. To say that about a referee is, frankly, it's. It's libelous. If I met Malloy, that's more than just, I want to talk to you the next time our Paths cross. The next time you're doing a game I'm doing, or I see you at an airport or at a restaurant or in an arena, that's like, call the league. And that's usually the kind of thing where I know David Stern. Boy, would he. He would. He would go after this immediately. Because David Stern, for much of his commissionership, was on a crusade to. So that you really wouldn't know the names of referees. He wanted to get rid of the Earl Stroms and the Mendy Rudolph's and the referees with personality because he thought it was bad for the league. That's why he made Daryl Garretson the head of officiating, to standardize officiating, turn everybody into robots, which is kind of what they have. And obviously some referees are better than others. And I'm sure the gamblers will tell you that there's certain reputations, but that's a veteran guy in Ed Malloy, and you just had one of your national broadcasters. That's not some local radio schmo. That is a. That's one of your national dudes. Say this is personal. And that he made that call against his better judgment, knowing it was wrong. Like he got it wrong on purpose because he was attacking a player. That's scandalous, man. And I just thought that this would resonate a whole lot more than it did, because I'd be real mad if I read Malloy and say, hey, man. Hey, Stan, I missed the call. My bad. But don't you ever accuse me of favoritism or of calling things getting things wrong on purpose. Come on. That is the absolute worst thing you could say about a referee. Once that's in the bloodstream, reputational damage like that is. That's actionable.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
I think the league would probably have a conversation with Van Gundy, and I think that's the appropriate thing to do. I also don't think it's. It's too terrible when you have one of your guys who's an analyst with a deep history of the game saying something like that. And if. If I'm Ed Malloy, if it's. If it's not accurate, then yeah, I say something. But if it is, if there's some truth to it as well, I let it blow over. I don't want to draw any more attention to it because I'm curious to know why Stan Van Gundy thinks there's an issue between the player and the ref. I want to hear what his thought process is.
Dan Bernstein
Exactly. That's why I was a little Surprised that we didn't get that in the conversation. I don't know what happened in the truck, but I just think the natural intellectual curiosity of the play by play guy is usually going to be like, oh, wow, why do you say that? Why do you think that?
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Or maybe break. I say it to him, hey, I heard. You know, that's kind of a damning thing to say. What.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
What's your thoughts behind that?
Dan Bernstein
Maybe that happened. So maybe they. Maybe after a break and, and you get a producer and a director who heard it, and the producer just thinks, like, you know, we might want to reel that in a little bit because that was. That's going to be a thing there, Stan.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
I also wouldn't. I wouldn't put it past a referee, though, either, Dan.
Dan Bernstein
Well, the. Based on their history, I certainly. People are people. And what does it mean? How could it be that you and I would get along so awfully? Depeche Mode, breakdown. Get that, too. I don't know if the league would investigate. They're not gonna.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
I would have a conversation with.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah, it's worth, it's worth.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Yeah, it's worth a call. I'd give him a call and say, hey, that really stood out in the, in the, in the telecast. What's your, what's your thought behind that? Yeah, what's up here?
Dan Bernstein
Yeah, what do you know?
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
I mean, I wouldn't make it a full blown investigation, but, yeah, a conversation should be had.
Dan Bernstein
I think so, too.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Because if he has something, he says, hey, I've done half a dozen of these games, and here's what I've noticed, here's what I've seen, here's what I've heard. These are the things I'm witnessed with my own eyes. I'd be curious to hear again what, what his thought is. I don't think Van Gundy is a guy to go out there just to. Just to throw shit out there for no reason.
Dan Bernstein
No, but they just seemed like a big escalation because there's a way to say it, too. There's a way to say, hey, Ed Malloy missed that call. Ed Malloy, it's right in front of him. You can just state the fact without presuming the intent.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Yeah. I mean, to say that it's gotten personal. Okay, why. Why do you say that?
Dan Bernstein
Why is it personal? Exactly.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Why is it personal?
Dan Bernstein
With Jokic, it's very. What you can do in his situation is simply say, ed Malloy missed that call. I don't know why he missed that call. So Badly. He's looking at it. He got it wrong. That's one he wants back. And leave it at that. And then you let the viewer say, well, you know, I've seen. It's because if you're going to. Once you make that extra step, the onus is on you to back it up at some point.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Yeah, I'm sure a conversation with the office will happen.
Dan Bernstein
Now, this is. You talk about somebody just doing his job. And if you had had any questions about whether or not Dick Vital still has a fastball at his. At his advanced age doing college games, he. He had it for Mark Pope, the head coach of Kentucky. Dickey V. Dude. He laid waste to Mark Pope, who is obviously doing a terrible job in Kentucky and is probably going to be fired next year. And that's. But, but, man, you know that usually when we think of Dick Vital, he goes to these. These classic buildings and he calls games, whether it's Duke or Kansas or Carolina, and he's, you know, he just glazing everybody. Oh, oh, the greatest coach of all time. And, you know, getting into it with the students and everything's awesome and everything's fabulous, and it's all about the pageantry of college basketball. But, man, apparently Vital has done three Kentucky games this season. And this is his quote. I'm going to say this right here. Win or lose, I've done several Kentucky games now, win or lose, 22 million, this team, the reports are in terms of the nil for their players. I think with 22 million, they could have put together a better roster than they did. I really do. And then Jimmy Dykes says Kentucky doesn't have any superstar freshmen this season. And then Vital's like, especially when you got 22 million to spend on the players. I think a lot of schools would like the dollars and the support. Not only the money, but they've got great support here. These Big Blue Nation fans are so passionate. They deserve better. The people want them to do so well. They want Mark Pope to succeed here.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
They.
Dan Bernstein
They're really cheering. So he's. He's just giving it to him. He's giving it to him. He goes, I'll tell you one thing. You don't want to walk out here thinking you've got a moral victory. This is Dick Vital. Moral victories do not count at this level of basketball. And I think you'll hear some of the people say, well, we played them close, we played them tough. Bottom line is you're Kentucky. You're Kentucky, and you've got to leave here either. With a win, especially at home, there's no moral victories. Come on. I don't want to hear that. The reason I mentioned that about moral victories is today I was having lunch over at the Hyatt. I had Kentucky fans saying, hey, we played them close last time. We only lost by nine. I mean, come on. Like out of nowhere, out of nowhere, Dick Vital pulls out the big Gallagher mallet. They're smacking people. That is a man who has no fucks left to give.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
He's taking up the cause for the Kentucky fans.
Dan Bernstein
How about it?
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
He knows what this. What this program has meant, the basketball. And. Yeah, he just. Yeah, he's letting. Letting it go. That lunch really stuck with him.
Dan Bernstein
Apparently. That was. That's where you find vitality.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
That's just an old guy, which is like living in the present. And. Yeah, that's it. If he's not going to filter it and think through it.
Dan Bernstein
I love it. React. I love it. Like, I. This is. I always said this, this, that. I always wished that you could transpose parts of the brains back in the day of the two sort of rival national broadcasters, Billy Packer and Dick Vital. I said Packer was this curmudgeonly critical analyst, and I loved how cantankerous he was as an analyst and just sort of how difficult he was also an absolute scene screaming prick of a human being. And then you had Vital, who was just kind of the annoying sideshow. Everybody's awesome. Everything's great, and every coach is wonderful and all the fans are awesome and college basketball's great. And so as a broadcaster, you can take or leave it, but a prince of a guy, I mean, just. Just a delightful guy. I always wish you could have both. Maybe finally, that's what we've got. Maybe. Maybe at this stage, he doesn't care anym. God, Mark Pope, he's just. He just out there beating him up. $22 million and this is the best you can do? You Kentucky? You're Kentucky. What is this shit?
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Yeah, I think it's.
Dan Bernstein
I think it's great. It's. Yes.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
That's really good.
Dan Bernstein
I loved it. I loved it. I just. I.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Not wrong either.
Dan Bernstein
No, no. Like, that's. That's the point of being Kentucky. You can. You can snap your fingers and some big stroker is going to give you a couple million dollars to go. What do you need? I'll bring him over here. Okay. You know, we always talk about the old. You know, the guys with the tumblers of bourbon. It's Kentucky. That's where all the bourbon is.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Yup.
Dan Bernstein
It's made from the water dripping through the bluegrass and all the stuff I've heard them say before. You're Kentucky. You spent $22 million on that. That's bad spending. Geez. So here's, here's to more of that from vital. And here's to figuring out if, if my guy Stan is doing okay. Russ Armstrong is your guy if you need new windows because Russ is the owner of Chicago Window Guys. He owns the factory here in Chicago. And the way this works is you call Russ at 847-302-9171 or you can contact them after you check out their five star reviews. ChicagoNowNow guys.com and then they call you back and they set an appointment time and Russell come out and he'll talk to you about windows and curling and then you'll see what you like and what works for you. And if you want to do it in phases or if you want to do everything all at once and then you say, well, these other window places I talked to have all these buy one, get one free deals and all this. Russ is going to explain what the actual costs are of windows and he will match any price that you find any of these actual prices once you get past some of these teaser deals that aren't what they say they are. And Russell say, okay, sure, you want better windows, better service, and, and you can deal directly with Russ instead of some big window thing that is only working it through a local company trying to look local. Russ is local. He lives here. His factory is here. And importantly, all of his installers work for him. He doesn't subcontract. So ask people when you get quotes, who's going to be installing your windows because they're not going to know. Russ does know because it's his crew and you have that peace of mind. Russ has done my windows. I've recommended him to everybody and everybody loves Russ. 847-302-9171 and check out his 5 star reviews@chicagowindowguys.com I have a question for Tom Izzo and I'm going to ask this question after I explain what's going on. Okay, so Michigan State has a player named Jeremy Fears Jr. And he's really good. He's a really good basketball player. He just is too kicky and he has a tendency to kick opponents in the balls. He just does that. And he.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Basketballs.
Dan Bernstein
No, no. Like just gives you a little shot in the balls and he does that and he did it in Sunday's game. Elliot Cadeau of Michigan. And there was a whistle and he kicked Elliot Kiddo in the nut sack. And obviously the Michigan coach, Dusty May, is not happy about that. So then these are actual quotes from Tom Izzo. So Tracy Wolfson asked him about it during the CBS broadcast, and he said it's all because of what happened earlier. And now the microscope's on him. And I don't like that. Okay, well, you just said why the microscope is on him because he did it earlier and that's what's going on and continues. Right, because he. And he. And he keeps doing that. And Izzo has this thing where he, he keeps saying things like he's going to coach him up and if he coaches Guys he here. He said, Izzo said he chewed him out about it during the game. Nobody's tougher on him than me. Nobody will be tougher on him than me. Okay, well then why does he keep doing it right? I told him I don't even want him breathing wrong is what he said, because he's under a microscope. Well, then you know what, Tom? He's not listening.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
He's not listening to you. Yes, it reminds me of.
Dan Bernstein
It reminds me. I was just gonna say. Good man. I was just gonna say, if your orders are always followed, then why would he be in danger, right?
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Why would you have to, you know, have the trash.
Dan Bernstein
Why would he have to. Why would he have to leave early on the flight that didn't make it onto the flight logs?
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Well, why would he leave at all if you said leave your don't touch him, Right? Your orders are always followed. Then why would you have to transfer him at all?
Dan Bernstein
Right? That's what, that's what Jessup. That's what Colonel J. It's exactly where I was headed with this. And then he said, I'm sick of it being one sided. Fears will get his lunch from me. I wonder if some of their guys will get their lunch from what happened in the first game that didn't.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
His analogies aren't working here for me.
Dan Bernstein
I don't know what's going on with the lunches, but you can say what you want to. Fears. He keeps kicking people in the balls, right?
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
He's not listening to you.
Dan Bernstein
He's not listening to you. If I told him not to do it, I said, don't even breathe wrong. Well, he. Then he went out and he kicked the guy in the nuts. Well, I told him not to do
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
it, but I was breathing right though, Coach.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah, breathing right I gave him his. I gave him his lunch. I made him a grilled cheese with bacon and tomato, and I liked it. Yes. I make a damn fine lunch around here. And if he wants, he can dip it in some tomato soup, too. So how about that? I made his lunch for him, and I wrote his name on the bag. And here endeth the metaphor. Like, come on, man. Just. Just tell him to stop doing that. Right?
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
And kids, stop kicking people.
Dan Bernstein
Just don't kick people. It's basketball. You don't have to do that. He's also really good. It's one thing if a guy sucks and he's just a goon out there. I don't know. Can you say that? Because I was gonna say he's out there gooning, but that would be different. You can't. That you can't do. Because I think the definition of that has. Has shifted over the years. And if somebody's out there on the. On the. Is on the floor gooning, then we got a little bit of a problem.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
We got.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah. Yes. That's a. That's a different coaching effort. And please don't hand him my lunch.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
I told him to stop gooning, and
Dan Bernstein
he said it just. It was too good, but help me figure this out. So he says, this is Jeremiah Fierce Now. It was. He. He came back to basketball because he got shot in the leg, right? And then he was out of the game. He was out of basketball, and he came back. He recovered from getting shot. So he said, I go out every game and I play hard. I don't intentionally try to hurt anyone. I go out and play every game like it's my last because at one point, it was my last. I don't take a game for granted. I don't take a moment for granted. I'm going to go out there and play as hard as I can. At one point, I had basketball taken away from me, so something I love to do. I couldn't do it for a whole year, so most people wouldn't understand that. And that's on them, I guess, huh? At the end of the day, it doesn't change who I am or what I do. I just go out there and play 150%, no matter what. Well, you just added 50%, so that's part of it. And when he says, I don't take a game for granted, I play every game like it's my last. What does that have to do with kicking people in the balls? Right. That's what I don't understand. You play as hard as you want. Explain that to me. Well, if I have basketball taken away from me, I'm not going to have it taken away without me kicking everybody in the nuts before. I mean, I know what I am on this earth to do, and that's kick people in the balls.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
I think other people should employ that strategy as well. Like, you get fired. It's your last day at the job. You just kick everyone in the balls on the way out the office.
Dan Bernstein
Well, it would be fun. Perhaps.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Hey, just. I'm leaving. Just wanted to say goodbye before I head out.
Dan Bernstein
Good luck with everything.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Ow.
Dan Bernstein
No, you know, it's. They've taken it away from me. Ow. I think I just kicked something. Oh, don't.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
They don't start kicking cords out.
Dan Bernstein
No, I know there's like lights down there. I don't want to break anything, but. Yeah, that. That's all I really have to say about Jeremiah Fears. If that's playing 150%, maybe tone it down. Yeah, dial it back a little bit. Just. Just kind of chill. On another note, you people. You people, you did it to me.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
What?
Dan Bernstein
So after the super bowl, remember when I was making fun of the trailer for Project Hail Mary? Oh, yeah, the Ryan Gosling movie. And just how bad it looked, and I said, oh, God, it looks like some sort of like, warmed over attempt to redo the Martian. And I. It just looked bad and silly and I. I faced an onslaught of response.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
People love the book.
Dan Bernstein
Well, right? You saw it. You saw the emails, everything. Dan, you know, you're right. The trailer might look bad, but the book is great. The book is great. The book is great. So it was a kind of a roundabout way. I wanted to get out of the house on Sunday. It was Saturday. Or Sunday. It was Sunday. And it was just. It's nice out. And I just wanted to go walking. And no. So, you know, it was Saturday. I was out walking. It was nice and cold, and I. I liked it. And I said, oh, you know what? I'm gonna go buy the book. Everybody's on me to read the book. Project Hail Mary. I'm gonna go buy the book. So, like, oh, I'll go to that little bookstore on Southport. And I walked to Southport and I'm walking and I can't find the bookstore. And I'm like, well, isn't there? And then I realized, oh, it's on Roscoe. Okay. So I'm like, that's the bookstore. I somehow transposed it in my mind to the wrong street. So I'm like, all right, I Guess I'll walk that way anyway. And then I kept walking down Southport and I did find a bookstore.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
But not the one you're looking for.
Dan Bernstein
But not the one I was looking for. But they had the book. So I. So I went into a different bookstore. And I like to be local. I always like to. I would much rather spend locally than just order it and, you know, you can have a conversation. And I went. I was browsing other books. I ended up pre buying the Carl Hiaasen book that's coming out in paperback in two weeks. So I got that going for me. Added up a little two for one arrangement. So I have the book. I will read it and I will report, but I just let. I want the record to reflect. Let the record show that I did. Listen, I am taking your advice as a collective listenership who was clearly represented by enough people who felt strongly to say, dan, read the book. And then don't even worry about how the movie looks or what the trailer looks like. And then just enjoy.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
So I thought the trailer looked good. I was looking forward to seeing it, and I will see it.
Dan Bernstein
Okay.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
And I'm looking forward to hearing your book review as well.
Dan Bernstein
I might see it. Because everything I'm hearing about the book, and I should. You know, my wife is like, well, what's that book? And she goes, oh, that's supposed to be really, really good. I said, oh, you heard? Yes.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
I think everybody's heard about how good it is now.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah, apparently so. Except. And it was enough that I was swayed. I was easily convinced, and I did that. And then I went and I voted, and there was no line. And it was. It was great. So visit your early polling place, by the way. They're happy to see you. And if you're a primary voter for wherever and you can sort through just. What I do is I. I dodge the phalanx of the. The gantlet of people lined up to lobby me. And, you know, as I'm walking in, so I go in the back door to avoid that because I don't know. I don't like that. I don't like that feeling. As you head to the. Are you voting today? Can I hand you a sample ballot? Will you vote for my. Sometimes it's the actual person. Ever seen this?
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Sometimes it is.
Dan Bernstein
Yes. Yeah. You know, last year or two years ago was Dan Richmond, who was running for, like, the police board.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
And, like, oh, was he really? Yeah.
Dan Bernstein
He's like, hey, Bernsey, can I count on your vote?
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
No.
Dan Bernstein
He's like, yo, get out of my face, bastard. Like, yeah, sure, of course I'll vote for you. But it's like when. With these local. Local elections and it's the actual person. Yeah. Hi.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
That happens a lot.
Dan Bernstein
Will you vote for me or they
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
come to your house? I get that the door to door people all the time.
Dan Bernstein
Hi. I'm running for such and such.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
I'm running for such and such. You know, And I like that.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah, go ahead. You know, knocking. I don't mind people knocking on doors. It's an excuse to have a conversation. I'll answer. I might even buy something from you. I'm an easy mark.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
I did something yesterday. I wanted to tell you about it.
Dan Bernstein
Oh. You okay?
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
I'm fine. No, I'm fine. It just. It's. It just brought me back to our tales of laziness stories. So this. I. I don't know.
Dan Bernstein
Let me ask first. Is your wife. Is your wife out of town?
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Yes.
Dan Bernstein
Okay. Because Beth left today for a work conference.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Okay.
Dan Bernstein
And this is. This is usually the time where I. I will devolve.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
So Natalie left yesterday afternoon. So we. We were gone in Milwaukee for her cousin's wedding. We get home, she has a couple hours and she has to go to o'. Hare. So when we were at. We stayed at the Saint. Saint Kate Hotel in. In Milwaukee. Really nice hotel. And I wanted a little snack. On Saturday.
Dan Bernstein
Did everything go well with your.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Oh, everything was great.
Dan Bernstein
Okay.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
I did the ceremony. Everything was great. They had a beautiful wedding. It was just. It was a really fabulous time. So I want a little snack. I'm at the hotel bar, and they had a pasta salad. And I'm like, all right, I'm gonna have a little. Little pasta salad, little snack. Something light before we get to the wedding. And it was a pesto, like, pasta salad.
Dan Bernstein
Okay.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Really enjoyed it. So yesterday, I'm gonna say I'm go to the store. I'm gonna recreate this, but do my own thing with it and make this pasta salad. So I make a big pasta salad. So it's pasta and cherry tomatoes.
Dan Bernstein
You use rotini. I find rotini is the best pasta salad.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Pasta, that's what I use, is the rotini and black olives and cherry tomatoes and cucumbers.
Dan Bernstein
No feta.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
No feta. No cheese. No cheese in it. So I'm getting the pasta going, and I slice up the cucumbers and red onion as well, and I get those in the bowl and a little splash of white vinegar. Let those sit in that for a little bit. Then I get everything else together. And it's. It's a pretty. Pretty big bowl I made. So I get it all done. I let it chill for a little bit, and then I. I had a big bowl of it, and I'm like, oh, my God, so good. So I had a second big bowl of it.
Dan Bernstein
Okay.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
And I wasn't. I didn't want to put it away yet, so I just put the bowl back in the fridge before I put it, like, oh, you're.
Dan Bernstein
You're circling back to that, maybe.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
So I went back to it, and, like, a little. A couple hours later, I'm like, all right, I got to put it in Tupperware now and close it up. So I have. I have a big box of those, you know, like, you get. I know, Thai food or Chinese food in those plastic to go containers.
Dan Bernstein
Oh, I save them. They're great. Yeah.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
So, well, I bought a box of the big ones and the smaller ones from my buddies at the restaurant, like, five years ago, and there was, like, 500 of each in the box. And I'm at the very. Coming down to the very end of the boxes. So I'm. I get a big container, and I'm like, oh, this will all fit in this big container. And so I get it all in, and there's still more. And I couldn't get it in the container, eat it. So I had two bowls already. Me and the boys went to Dairy Queen, and I got a blizzard. Literally finished the blizzard like, five minutes earlier before I'm putting this stuff away. So instead of walking around the kitchen island to go get a second container to put it away, I just decided to eat it because I didn't want to walk around to get a container, and I wasn't hungry, and I just had ice cream.
Dan Bernstein
Nobody. But if you're looking like, that's a
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
long walk, man, it's probably seven feet away. But I'd have to walk all the way around the kitchen island to go
Dan Bernstein
get it, and then that's a trek. No, you'd have to stop halfway for, like, put an oxygen tank.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
I'd walk past Frank's bowls. I'd have to get down and get some water. Yeah, so I'm looking at the kitchen cabinet. I'm like, do I want to go over there? You know what? I could eat it. I'll just eat it instead. And so I ate. It was probably, like, half of the serving of what I had before. But, yeah, instead of walking to get a container to put it away, I actually just ate it. And I didn't eat it.
Dan Bernstein
Oh, that's. I totally get it. Let me ask you for a ruling on something while we're discussing that. Yeah. And this is something that I regularly do, and it has to do with something I read. If somebody makes pasta earlier in the evening and strains the pasta out of the water, but leaves the pasta water, do you use that same water again for your pasta?
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Like, how much time has gone by?
Dan Bernstein
I don't know. An hour? No, I do.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Okay. Why?
Dan Bernstein
Because over time, it. I read this in the book, Bill Buford's book, Heat. Okay. Where he. He. Before Mario Batali got canceled, he was like a. An intern, basically, for Batali. You'd love. You would love the book. I can't believe you haven't read it yet. It's Bill Buford, the guy that wrote about the soccer hooligans, and he's been doing a lot of writing. There's some stuff about Marco Pierre White in this. It's an incredible heat. Heat. It's. It's a remarkable book because Buford is just so good. And it's. There's a whole thing about the Batali kitchens and how they sort of make sure their pasta water in the course of an evening. They say the pastas that come out later can often be better just because the water gets a little seasoned or there's gluten. I forgot exactly what the chemical reasons are.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Yeah.
Dan Bernstein
So I use that as an excuse to be lazy, to just be like, oh, there's already pasta.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Yeah, that's fine. I mean, I don't. I'm not. Yeah. I wouldn't. I wouldn't not eat your pasta if you used it. But. Yeah, I generally just. I'll dump it right away because I say what I need for the sauce and then.
Dan Bernstein
Right.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Dump the rest away. Yeah.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah. But like, if. If it's like the second or third round of pasta, that stuff in a sauce. Oh, that gets that, like, creaminess without cream. You know what I mean?
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
That's why I think a lot of people make the mistake. They don't. They don't save any pasta water. When. Even if you're using like. Like making a jarred sauce, you should at least save like, a fourth of a cup or a third of a cup and add that in with your pasta sauce. I think most people don't do that, but that's the whole point of it. But also, in a restaurant, though, if you're having that water, I mean, you're adding fresh water to it because you can't just let It. But it'll get down. It'll get down too low.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
You're adding more, right?
Dan Bernstein
I know, but.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
No, no, I don't. I don't think that's a bad. That's. It's. I mean, it's. I wouldn't do it. I don't do it.
Dan Bernstein
But.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Yeah. And I have more pasta for pasta salad for lunch today. I'm really excited. I made my own pesto and everything.
Dan Bernstein
Really?
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
See, I wanted to recreate it so.
Dan Bernstein
Well, See, Zoe can't have pine nuts, so we do almonds. Non pine nut pestos. Yeah, there's some. I think the Barilla pesto uses cashews, actually. And it's. There's all kinds of really good alternatives, so it's not really.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Yeah, no, yeah. Cashews are good, too. Almonds would be good. And if you're gonna buy jarred pesto, make sure you look at the ingredients, because you don't want, like, a jar where the second ingredient is, like, sunflower oil. Always find one with olive oil. Please make it.
Dan Bernstein
And.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Yeah, and you can see the difference. And it's.
Dan Bernstein
Actually.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
They don't even call it pesto. What do they call it when you get the one with olive oil? Genovese.
Dan Bernstein
Okay. Yeah.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
So, yeah, don't. Yeah. Make sure you read the labels if you're gonna do pesto.
Dan Bernstein
I made a pistachio one years ago. Oh, that would.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Oh, that would be great.
Dan Bernstein
I did. I did. Because I had all this basil at
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
the end of the year. Pistachios, basil.
Dan Bernstein
Oh, I did several different. I did. I did a spicy one. I did a really heavy anchovy one. It was like almond anchovy and Romano. I did some with Romano and some with Parmesan. We had a blast making them. It was great.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Okay. But pistachio, just like more traditional pistachio. Olive oil, basil.
Dan Bernstein
Pistachio, olive oil, basil, and a little bit of red pepper flake.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Okay.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah. And Parmesan. Yeah, it's really good.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Super easy to do as well.
Dan Bernstein
March is here, and that means college basketball is heating up. We have teams. I was watching Northern Iowa and uic with Kevin Harlan on the call. These conference races are tightening or the regular seasons are done. As we head into the tournaments, the bubble, teams fighting for their lives. This all matters. Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
That was for a tournament entry. The UIC Northern.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Iowa got in, so.
Dan Bernstein
Oh.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
So uic, they. They win that game. They're in the tournament.
Dan Bernstein
Correct. And they did not win the game. They got. They got pumped.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Okay, well, Northern Iowa, that's a good, good program. Believe our buddy Jay Hood, doesn't he do UIC games?
Dan Bernstein
He does the radio call, I believe.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Yeah. I think he does the radio for uic.
Dan Bernstein
Oh, that would be fun. Yeah. I was lucky enough to be able to call NCAA and NCAA tournament game for DePaul when they were beaten by Kansas down in Winston.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
They got you to DePaul.
Dan Bernstein
Yes. And that was the. They should have been. They should have been better. There should have been multiple appearances there. But that's a topic for another time. Everybody knows I'm right on that. My bookie now presents DBU picks.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Matt, you've been rolling, so here's what I did. So you asked how I did over the weekend. I went three and one on Friday night, so I had another good night. Saturday was not so good. Saturday was one in three, and that was my first losing day in like 15 days of. Of making plays. I won four and four over the weekend. Overall, since I've started this, college basketball and NBA mostly run 34, 13 and one is where I'm at now.
Dan Bernstein
Wow.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
So I would take that. So Tonight we got four plays. Cavaliers minus 12 and a half against the 76ers taking the Cavs minus 12 and a half. Memphis and Nets in a big bum game that your kids probably watching, I'm sure.
Dan Bernstein
Probably.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
I'm gonna lay the points with Memphis minus one and a half at the Nets. I think they're gonna win that one. Nick's at. Who are the Knicks playing? Do you have that right in front of you? Why can't I read my own writing?
Dan Bernstein
I don't have it in front of me. Rats.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
I'll look it up real quick. Whoever the Knicks are playing -2 and a half and then the. Oh, this is the big game of the. The game of the night is Denver and okc. I think it's gonna be a close game. So I'm gonna actually, I'm taking the Nuggets. I'm taking Denver plus six and a half at OKC. So we have Cavs minus 12 and a half, Memphis minus one and a half, Knicks minus two and a half and Nuggets getting six and a half
Dan Bernstein
points in that game that you say is the game of the night. I have got a couple of props. I'm going to take Jalen Williams of the Thunder J A Y L I n Williams for 11 or more points and I'm going to couple that with chet Holmgren making two or more three pointers. So Jalen Williams 11 plus points, Chet Holmgren two plus three pointers.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
You got to make sure Holmgren's playing too. Saw that he, he's got the flu. Oh, and he might be out. He's questionable for the game tonight.
Dan Bernstein
Okay, well.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
And so is Caruso. He's questionable with a hip thing.
Dan Bernstein
Well, he's always got something. Yeah, this guy's constantly diving on the, on hard wood.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
But give me your, give me your picks again.
Dan Bernstein
Jalen Williams, 11 plus points, Chad Holmgren, ones, two or more threes.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
Two or more threes.
Dan Bernstein
Okay. And those are DBU picks. Lock in your picks now with my bookie bet on anything, anywhere, any time.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
And I have that Knicks game. They're at the Clippers.
Dan Bernstein
There you go.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
That's my writing says, it says la.
Dan Bernstein
You got it. Don't forget that on forward progress today we're to get into everything going on in the NFL. Everything that is happening today in the tampering, non tampering, illegal legal portion, legal
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
portion of the game.
Dan Bernstein
You see the legal portion of the illegality for the non tampering and tampling. There will be a serious, serious tampling going on as well. So make sure.
Co-host (possibly Matt or another regular co-host)
And then the legal gooning phase starts on Thursday, I think at noon.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah, they've declared the legal at midnight. Midnight. Of course there's the overnight gooning period that is Dan Bernstein unfiltered or as we call it, dbu. In this episode, Dan Bernstein and his co-host dive into the Chicago Bears’ latest move at center—trading a 2027 fifth-round pick for veteran Garrett Bradbury. They break down what it means for the Bears’ offensive line, discuss the process and rationale behind trusting the new staff, and weigh the fallout of missing out on bigger names like Tyler Linderbaum. The show also ranges widely: they analyze potential pass-rush acquisitions, critique the Bulls’ muddled tanking strategy, react to viral broadcaster moments, riff on NCAA tournament dramas, and close with some classic “life stuff” banter in their unfiltered, Chicago-style tone.
“You can't say one day that you fully trust Ben Johnson and his staff... Even if it's something that doesn't exactly pump my nads, I can feel like they know what they're doing, they've earned the benefit of the doubt.” (03:08, Bernstein)
“Are you answering the bill? Are you there? Can you be relied on? And if the answer is yes, that's a big deal.” (03:39, Bernstein)
“The fact that Jonah Jackson performed the way he did with a lot of people wondering... That, to me, is the example that it may engender a little bit more of that trust here.” (04:17)
“Not a spectacular athlete, but certainly at minimum a rotational contributor who's capable of big plays at big times.” (12:30)
“I have no idea what the Bulls are trying to accomplish right now... The whole point of this was to start losing, to increase your opportunity to get one of the top three picks this year. And they're not even doing that right.” (18:13–19:21)
“He had seven threes when they took him out... I thought, haha, they're finally doing it.” (20:28, Bernstein)
“That was clearly off Laravia... Ed Malloy is in a little bit of a battle with Nikola Jokic right now. I hate to say it, but it's become personal for Ed Malloy. That was an obvious call. There's no way Ed Malloy missed that call.” (29:58)
Dickie V eviscerates Kentucky’s Mark Pope during a broadcast:
“I'm going to say this right here. Win or lose, I've done several Kentucky games now, win or lose, 22 million, this team, the reports are in terms of the nil for their players. I think with 22 million, they could have put together a better roster than they did. I really do.” (36:11, Vitale, quoted by Bernstein)
Bernstein on Vitale’s new edge:
“That is a man who has no fucks left to give.” (37:37)
“Instead of walking around the kitchen island to go get a second container to put it away, I just decided to eat it because I didn't want to walk around to get a container, and I wasn't hungry, and I just had ice cream.” (54:10, Co-host)
