Matt Abaticola
It was like late in the evening.
Dan Bernstein
Yes sir. All right, I'm going to show you something here. Ready? Ready. Watch. Ready? I'm gonna hit this. See that? You see this? That is the 312 sports app that is live now. The 312 sports app with all this stuff, all this is free. It is live and it's yours when you go to Google Play or the Apple App store. It is for Android, it's for for iPhone and it is live. There's going to be opportunities to provide feedback, video, photos, audio for you to listen and it's. I'm so excited about it. I wish I was able to conversant in everything that it can do but I'm not. I'm not a tech guy so I can't tell you everything. But all I know is you're going to want it. I'm still figuring it out and we are just now diving into all the things that it can do. But everything I say can it do this? They've already thought of it. So enjoy it, download it, start poking around in there, tell us what you think. But most important thing is to get registered and then we're going to populate the rewards section with all kinds of of things for you. Freebies and things and discounts and all that that you're going to get just for listening and building up sort of reward points. I'm talking out of my ass.
Matt Abaticola

Dan Bernstein
So yeah, there's going to be a lot more. Check out the app, do that.
Matt Abaticola
But you have to register. Like Dan said, get yourself registered. So you're all good to go in there.
Dan Bernstein
You know what's happening right now. If you are a Chicago Bears fan and if you're a longtime Chicago Bears fan, the truth is.
For many years now we've worked way too hard. A lot of us in our, some of us haven't, but a lot of people have worked way too hard to continue to make something out of the Bears packers rivalry. And you know, remembering long time Packers PR guy Lee Remmel and he would talk about the primordial rivalry between these two founding NFL franchises and how important it is to both teams, how important it is to the McCaskey family, in the McClasky family and the history of George Hallis.
It matters again because both teams are good enough for it to matter. It's been a minute, but now this. However important it's been to you or however you were raised, it's not an excuse to be stupid. But there it's worth your, it's worth the time now. It's worth the rivalry. It's worth any bit of, of shade that you might send at a workplace. Or I've, I've got a dear friend who is in a Bears Packer marriage, a happy Bears packers marriage and has been who now that this spices everything up. Have fun with it. Have fun with it as long as you understand that it is just that and it is something with which to have fun. It's earned it now. And if a Packer fan wants to give you all the I own you stuff and all the Brett Favre running out of the field when they thought he wouldn't play or and you hear Joe Buck's voice screaming he's got Cobb touchdown because Chris Conte fell asleep. If you want to think of the Chester Markhole blocked Alan Page blocked field goal, Chester Markhole runs it in. Or Mike Ditka and Forrest Gregg or Charles Martin and his hit list of everything you want on there.
Matt Abaticola
Oh yeah, the hit from Charles Martin on Jim McMahon that injured him. Or the was it Brian Robinson that blocked a field goal?
Dan Bernstein
Yep, that was right. Right after Walter Payton had passed away. The Brian Robinson field goal block or, or even last year at Lambeau Field against all of their reserves. And but look, you got two young developing quarterbacks, you have two young telegenic coaches and most importantly, two decent football teams. That's when it's fun. That's when it matters. That's when we're not just screwing around, trying to make something out of nothing.
Matt Abaticola
Right. Because it hasn't been much of a rivalry, you know, the last several years for the Bears. And the whole essence of a rivalry is competing for the division for something. Yeah, for something. And for right now, it's for the division. And this. This game has divisional impact on Sunday. So it's. It's finally here that. That the games actually matter more than just a win or loss and bragging rights with friends or people that, you know who are packers fans, whatever it might be. It actually has divisional impact, and it really hasn't had that for a while.
Dan Bernstein
And there's two of them left, too. It isn't that the fact that you've already played 12 and there's still both games remaining.
Matt Abaticola
Right. And the NFL said, hey, the second one's gonna be so big at Soldier Field that we're gonna flex it to Saturday night on December 20th. It's a game now.
Dan Bernstein
Well, they're both national games because.
Matt Abaticola
325. But the second game was to be determined. They hadn't put out.
Dan Bernstein
I know.
Matt Abaticola
Day or time on it.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah, but Sunday's fully national. Sunday's going to do. And. And if you looked at the numbers that NFL games are doing, did you see what the Thanksgiving games did? The Cowboys, Chiefs did like 57 million or something like that. The most watched non super bowl. All games. All. The packers and the Lions did a huge number. There's. There's going to be a crazy number this Sunday and for that next packers game, no matter what. But it is. It's on. There's no question it is on. And if nothing else, regardless of what happens or else the outcome of the game, we should just celebrate the fact that.
To the extent that the Bears packers rivalry means something to you.
It is. You've got it now that you don't. You don't have to hype it up. You don't have to pretend. You don't have to say, well, yeah, gee, I remember when this was this. Or I remember when this felt that way. This is. If you're trying to raise little Bears haters in your packers home, or you're trying to raise little packers haters in your Bears home, first of all, there's something wrong with you, and you should reevaluate your life choices. But if you already have reconciled all that, this is when you do it. This is when you gather everybody in front of the tv. And if you are, if you do subscribe to the. The Danny Parkins theory, the. The Parkins doctrine, which is less hatred in the real world, in real life, more hatred in sports. He believes it properly using sports as a place to park hatred where it doesn't actually hurt people. Here's your chance.
Matt Abaticola
There it is.
Dan Bernstein
Go ahead.
Matt Abaticola
I think. I think Sunday's game, Dan, is going to turn into what the kids call an instant classic.
Dan Bernstein
I hate that term.
Matt Abaticola
I know you do.
Dan Bernstein
You're doing that just to needle me. I know. But I.
Matt Abaticola
And by the way, too, with DBU tomorrow, Friday's episode. Yes. The top 10 packers of all time. We have.
Dan Bernstein
I'm struggling already.
There's a lot of liberties that have to be taken with this.
Matt Abaticola
A lot of liberties. It's fine.
Dan Bernstein
Is it?
Matt Abaticola
Yes, of course it is.
Dan Bernstein
Okay.
Matt Abaticola
It's your own creation.
Dan Bernstein
I know Eagles was there. I had almost too much information to do the top 10 Eagles. So now I really. I've got to work at this.
Matt Abaticola
I'm setting aside time really, really wide, really wide broad scope to look at packers. So top 10 packers.
Dan Bernstein
This is my cardio for later today. This is my. What I'm setting aside for my 45 minutes to an hour of cardio is going to be concentrating on top 10 packers.
Matt Abaticola
Packers. And then we also have Friday feedback.
Dan Bernstein
Friday.
Matt Abaticola
Yep. On dbu. And then after Bears Packers Ford progress will be live as always, for reaction and postgame show.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah. And the cool thing, once you register in the app and you allow for push notifications, we will be able to say we're on live. We won't have to do it on social media. We won't have to. You will be so clued in right on your phone. We'll be able to tell you. And not just for post game. Like if in fact something happens in the sports world, say, hey, hey, hey, jump on. We're going on right now. Your app will tell you you're going to be probably more up to date with 312 sports than I am, based on how quickly and with the facility with which you're going to be able to handle this app maybe better than I that you're going to find out about before I do at this point. But it's great. So that's going to allow you to do all that. And these are fun times. I think we picked a really good time to start a Chicago sports podcast network.
Matt Abaticola
I would say to have one about. About a specific Chicago Bears podcast, too. That too gotten any luckier with a nine and three start here. And you know, the team being the number one seed currently in the NFC and on top of their division. So, yep, you know, if Bears want to thank us for doing this, then, hey, they certainly can too.
Dan Bernstein
Sometimes things just kind of work out. The Bulls, meanwhile. The Bulls are the worst team in the NBA at the moment.
They're the worst team in the NBA right now. Yes, it's because they're hurt and they've got G league players and two way guys out there. That's. That's part of it. But having watched what's happened on this road trip and having now they've multiple statements by players and coaches and certainly everybody observing about their lack of effort, their lack of intelligence, their lack of care of the basketball. I thought the broadcast last night, Adam Amin led a truth telling session that was like a rock bottom intervention, come to Jesus meeting during the game last night. And I thought Stacy was at his best. When he's serious like that, I think he does some of his best work. And I texted Adam, I told him, I said that was just great hoops talk, great content, a lot of truths being told. And.
How many of these do you get? How many of these inexcusably bad efforts do you get?
Because it's already too many. You start the season six and one because you're playing hard and I know you don't have guys. And they had more. The Bulls did not have the talent that the Brooklyn Nets had last night. They just didn't. They got some dudes. A lot of these young teams have a bunch of real dudes.
The Bulls have to play hard and smart to be competitive. They've got to understand what the other team is doing and why they're doing it and who's on the floor and who's guarding whom and why. But they've got to play smart and hard. And they're not. They're soft. They are softer than wet. Newspaper.
There used to be something called newspaper and it was on sort of an inexpensive pulped trees. And it would be. When it got wet, it would be very soft. I just need to. People have never seen a newspaper before. It is a. It's embarrassing. And the efforts that the Bulls have trotted out of late have just been completely inexcusable. Kicking the ball all over the place, throwing it to nobody. The backcourt violation last night where Josh Giddey just flips it over to modest Bouz Ellis who doesn't realize that he was established backcourt and jumps in the to try to catch it and then lands in the forecourt with the ball. To me that was sort of the apotheosis of, of what they've been doing. The number of blow bys, of just uncontested drives to the basket, uncontested offensive rebound put backs and Billy Donovan can take any number of timeouts.
I don't know if they've got time to practice. I don't know if they can do this at shoot around. I don't know if they're doing it at film session. But you heard it laid out by Nicola Vucevic before it got really bad. It was even after a win that he said this isn't sustainable. Sustainable. We can't do this. We have to play harder and better and smarter. And it's gotten worse since then.
I'm not sure where it leads right now. I know that Billy Donovan recently signed a contract extension that showed should allow him to come down real hard. Or maybe he's going to zag instead of zig. And know that yelling at Lachlan Ulbrich and Emmanuel Miller and Dalen Terry might not be the thing to do. And maybe he's keeping his powder dry when it comes to some of that stuff. But my worry is that they just haven't stocked up on enough talent yet. That's the other aspect of this that is becoming clear that there are a lot of talented players in the NBA who are gestating on bad teams and they're going to get good real fast.
Matt Abaticola
Yeah, but you know, being, being talented though, like your talent level shouldn't dictate your effort level.
Dan Bernstein
Correct. I don't, I don't care. You can play, you can play hard, right? Anybody can play hard and smart.
Matt Abaticola
And that was a game last night. I watched more of that game than I have, than I've seen any other game this year. And I'm sorry I did, but. And I was flipping back. The Libertyville High School was on marquee network and then I went and just watched all the Bulls. Noah Clowney. Tell me, what kind of player is Noah? Noah Clowney a good one. Okay. Because I mean that, that's a guy there.
Dan Bernstein
I didn't know much about him.
Matt Abaticola
Okay. And I don't know like what his averages are, what he, what he. I mean, I think he had 20 last night in the game, but that's a guy who's playing hard. He played hard the entire game. And it certainly helps when the defense leaves you wide open for multiple threes in a row. Like I like. Did they not know that they should guard him? They did just want to Let him. But he was a guy that was all over the court, whether it was rebounds or looking for shots. But he was. But again, he stood out to me because he was a guy that was playing hard. He was playing with effort. I don't know what kind of a player he is. I don't know if he's even good, if he's a regular starter for that.
Dan Bernstein
Noah Clowney was, He was a first round pick, 21st overall in the draft two years ago. Alabama, just another one of these guys. 610, 210, but he's a 35% three point shooter. He's averaging 13 points and four boards per game and 21 games this year. But the league is full of real dudes, of big, strong, fast, tough guys.
And you talk all you want about modest Bouzelis, but.
I mean, he's fine. He's good. But if you think Bou Zealous is a cornerstone pillar tent pole player, I don't know. You run into some of these teams, there's guys you never heard of who are outplaying him.
So we slow our role on that. I mean, I believe you on Giddy. I think that Giddy, despite being horrendous defensively and despite being an absolute turnover factory, can still stuff a box score. And I still think that he's got star potential, might even be an all star this year. But man, you need rim protection and toughness. You need somebody. And Zach Collins is going to help, but he's not the answer.
Matt Abaticola
Yeah, Josh Giddey with another triple double. Was that five triple doubles? I think he's second or third in the league in triple doubles.
Dan Bernstein
He's third all time in the Bulls and very, very soon he's going to be number one all time.
Matt Abaticola
But I think for the season, though, I think he's. He's up there in the leaders as well, too, with another one last night. 11. 11. And then what did he have? 20, 28 points? 26 points?
Dan Bernstein
Yeah, but they need to fix this.
Matt Abaticola
They.
Dan Bernstein
They need. There's just, there's too many defensive possessions when they lose people completely. And it's not just on the ball, they lose guys off the ball. Which almost makes me ang to understand the plays that the other team is running. They have to know when the other team is bringing the ball up, what they want to do and why they want to do it, and they've got to defend it. And this comes with practice and awareness and attention. And right now it's all terrible. And I've got. It's it's, it's playing, it's coaching. At the moment, everything is bad. At the moment. The Chicago Bulls are the worst team in the NBA. That can be fixed, that can be changed. They're not locked into that. But after watching that last road trip against the bottom feeders and watching them last night, there is, they, they can, they can lose right now to absolutely anybody. And at the moment, they seem determined to do so. Yeah.
Matt Abaticola
And that surprising 5, 0 start against teams they probably shouldn't have gone 5 and oh, against. That's not, you know, realistically who they are. I don't think they're as bad as, as they are. What they've shown us with, you know, losing to the Pelicans and then losing last night to the Nets and then just barely beating the Wizards. I think we had one or two wins going into that game. So they've got to be somewhere in between, which puts them right where we talked about, you know, 8, 9, 10 seed and that playing thing again. And it's just if that's what you want to consistently be, well, good luck. I mean, and God bless you because you're there. You're there right now.
Dan Bernstein
A couple other NBA notes I have for you here. First of all, Noah Assange, the Bulls first round pick in the most recent draft, is out for the year after he'll undergo shoulder surgery. Be out for the year. It sucks that to lose a year of development.
It was a red shirt year anyway. He's not ready to play in the NBA. He wasn't ready to play in the NBA. What's too bad is you miss out on the Windy City Bulls time, you miss out on the G League time and just the seasoning, the overall seasoning. He would have to work on his body and to work on his game and to be around the team. I hope after surgery he still is and that he can at least get used to living here and professional life. He's a child.
Matt Abaticola
Did something happen to him to. For this shoulder injury?
Dan Bernstein
Yeah, apparently it happened in a Windy City Bulls game.
Matt Abaticola
Okay.
Dan Bernstein
I don't know exactly what or how, but that. You might as well take this red shirt year, fix it. Have him come back stronger than ever. Let his rehab be the launching point to some weight training to put on some good weight for next year. His youth is, is the best thing he has going for him right now. But it's, it's too bad because he has to be one of those guys that we see on other teams. One of those guys where the, where the opposing Fans go who the hell is that guy? And they look back, they go oh yeah, he was a first round pick in the 2025. Oh well, okay, yeah. But now that is even delayed. The other follow up that I have from an NBA perspective is what we talked about yesterday when we were just getting the news about Chris Paul being released in the wee hours of the morning in the middle of a road trip by the LA Clippers and there was an outstanding article that was published in the Athletic where and it took three people to do it, but they put together.
An explanation, at least the beginnings of an explanation as to what happened. It was Sam Amick, Law Murray and Joe Varden that published this late last night and too long didn't read version of this. He was exactly what we speculated. He was just over lawyering in the locker room and bothering everybody. And despite the fact that they tried really hard to bring him back for the right reasons and let him retire as a Clipper and they tried to say that he's coming back as a reserve point guard, it's up to the coach is what to do with him. He made everything unbelievably difficult on him. And one thing, one of the straws that was that that ended up being one of the final decision makers that he's been mentoring Dyson Daniels. And if you say, well wait, is Dyson Daniels on the Clippers? No, he's on the Atlanta Hawks.
And apparently when the Hawks were in la, Chris Paul was busy mentoring Dyson Daniels and was telling him to shoot the ball more and he was engaging in all these conversations with him and he Daniels said, I work too hard on defense. I need to reward myself by shooting the ball. It all makes sense coming from a guy like that. It helps to hear. And he wasn't doing that with his actual own teammates and he was doing it with an opponent. And the quote that they had, I think the money quote from this article is that they actually said they actually wanted him to stop the locker room lawyering. They said his constant criticism internally had been the result of the perceived problem and the the coaching and.
Organizational side. Sources, management sources have said their goal when they resigned was to minimize the chance that something like this would occur. They were at wit's end when it came to dealing with him. Some teammates took exception to his disparaging tone. League sources say Paul had several meetings with Clippers officials regarding their concerns with his approach. One source said there was a direct request for him to stop with quote the locker room lawyering, said he was openly critical of the team in film sessions and that poor Lawrence Frank finds himself caught in the middle of this, trying to take the blame for their poor start but also saying basically we had to get this guy out of here. So there we got a little bit of closure and in that regard.
And I want to also the injury to Giannis, we're waiting to find out today. Yet another calf strain and everybody in NBA circles that I'm talking to continues to bang this drum about pace and what it might be doing to star players and you're seeing more strained muscles and more soft tissue injuries than ever. So definitely keep an eye on that. We're going to find out more when we find out later on today what is going on with Giannis out of Campo and leaving a game with appeared to be a minimal contact if not non contact injury. They think he might have run into Jalen Duran who likes to throw his body around as we've mentioned. So this I don't know if that could hasten the trade talk regarding Giannis. So it's another thing on which to keep an eye. If you are a last minute holiday shopper, you know that feeling. As you know, as a Heisman voter, our rules are very stringent about what we are allowed to say regarding our potential vote and our actual vote. But I don't think it's speaking out of school to say that Saturday's Big Ten championship matters. I mean, you can just look at the odds and you can see where they are between Francisco Mendoza, the Indiana quarterback, and Julian Sayin, or Julie Insane, as I like to call him from Ohio State. The outcome of the game isn't as important as the performance of the players, but I think the outcome might be a function of the performance of the players. So it bears watching every minute of it, every play, and we'll see. I think your guy, Diego Pavia. Matty is on the outside looking in.
Matt Abaticola
Well, yeah, I mean, he should be in consideration for the award itself. I mean, he's had that kind of a year, but.
Man, that.
Dan Bernstein
I don't even know what I'm gonna get into it.
Matt Abaticola
I know you are, so I'll just.
Dan Bernstein
What? What are you so unhappy about?
Matt Abaticola
It's just disappointing to read some of the stuff.
Dan Bernstein
The story's awesome.
Matt Abaticola
But. Okay, but I. I'll say this. Knowing what I know going into this season, what I've learned.
Dan Bernstein
Huh?
Matt Abaticola
It fits. I mean, it all. It all fits. It's. It's total bro, man. Like, let's go, bro. But seriously, I mean, there's. There's one. One quote in there that you. That you're gonna get into. That I just, like, really, seriously, you can't really.
Dan Bernstein
There's that, like, there's several.
Matt Abaticola
Okay. But. But outside of all of that and what you get into, in a bit. His.
Dan Bernstein
He.
Matt Abaticola
He should be in consideration for the year that he's had, what he's done from a production level. In their 11 games, he's. He's. He's led them in rushing seven times. I mean, his passing numbers, he certainly isn't at the top of the list, but he's there. Touchdown numbers are there. I mean, he is an exceptional player. He's an exceptional college quarterback.
Dan Bernstein
Okay, you're done.
Matt Abaticola
I'm done.
Dan Bernstein
Can I get to the fun stuff now?
Matt Abaticola
Yeah, now you can get to the fun stuff.
Dan Bernstein
Okay. So the. The. The defense rests. Matty, representing Diego Pavia. And I don't know if you've also been retained.
Matt Abaticola
Oh, no.
Dan Bernstein
Have your services been retained by the Pavia family?
Matt Abaticola
So they were retained earlier. I said, when I saw this stuff, Dan, I said, hey, kid, I'm done. I'm going to get you, you know, public defender. So good luck to you.
Dan Bernstein
All right. Because we know that the Pavia family has become a story. Obviously, Diego Pavia's mother has been very visible and very audible, and so have his brothers. Diego Pavia's brothers have had themselves a hell of a time. These are. I want you to meet Roel Pavia and Javier Pavia. And.
They like drinking. They don't. They don't just like drinking. They like drinking and being very, very obvious super fans. Like, they. They. They go shirtless with overalls on and a bunch of buttons and gold chains and cowboy hats and stuff. And apparently their brother Diego is encouraging them to do that. And people are wondering, why do your brothers keep getting arrested? Because it's one thing to be drunk and fun.
And there's nothing wrong with that.
Matt Abaticola
Nope, there isn't.
Dan Bernstein
I think both of us can have experienced that.
Matt Abaticola
Yep.
Dan Bernstein
And often together, if history is a guide, that we certainly can't be on any high horse that we'd probably fall off of at Hawthorne. But Roel and Javier have both been jailed for being drunk and disorderly and disagreeable at games of basically just being drunken louts. And Diego Pavia seems cool with it because both Roel and Javier have been on Diego's podcast, and they have talked about how much they love alcohol. And it's. So they've proven it by being charged with public intoxication and resisting arrest. They were both charged at Vanderbilt season opener against Charleston Southern, and Rowell, on top of that, was accused of assaulting a police officer. So congrats. And Javier, not to be outdone, was kicked out of Neyland Stadium in the Tennessee game, and he was charged with public drunkenness. That was their.
Matt Abaticola
Their last game. The most recent game.
Dan Bernstein
The most recent game, yeah. So this. So we've had primacy and recency for the Pavia brothers to be criminally charged with being drunk and stupid. And Diego was on a podcast called Bussin with the Boys, that's B U S S I n apostrophe with the Boys. And what he said was, last year, we beat Alabama. We're going on a crazy run. Kentucky, they were running wild, too. And then it was like, hey, we need to calm down. Everything is getting out of control. He said, ever since that day, we were five and two, we only won one other game against Auburn, and we barely slipped by, and they weren't drinking nothing. So I was like, you know what? Fuck it. Next year, get hammered as much as you want. That's the only time we win. And you know what? My brother, I don't know which one he's talking about because they're both drunk and stupid. He said, my brother only stayed sober for the Alabama game and the Texas.
Matt Abaticola
Game, both games that they lost this year.
Dan Bernstein
So what it sounds like is he's got some kind of superstition that his brothers have to be drunk and stupid for them to win.
Is that. Am I.
Matt Abaticola
Well, that's what I inferred from it. Yes. Because the only time that they were. That he was sober was the Alabama and the Texas game, both losses. I mean, you can infer that it's not. It doesn't take a. It's not a long drive to get there. Okay, but.
How about just get drunk without being stupid?
Dan Bernstein
Yeah. Or do it at home.
Matt Abaticola
Get drunk without being arrested.
Dan Bernstein
Or you could do it at home.
So the other thing that is going to need some explanation because I've never played the video game Grand Theft Auto. Okay. And I know about it. I know it's super popular and everybody loves it, but this was the other explanation that was given by Diego Pavia. And it has to do with being from Albuquerque, New Mexico. The only time I was in Albuquerque, I think you and I, Maddie, were on the same plane. Remember when we were on a Southwest flight?
Matt Abaticola
Yeah, I do, Dan, because. Do you remember that flight from. From Chicago to Kansas City to Albuquerque to Tucson?
Dan Bernstein
Yes.
Matt Abaticola
Multiple layovers to get to fucking Arizona.
Dan Bernstein
Yes.
Matt Abaticola
Because it was cheaper.
Dan Bernstein
Yes.
Matt Abaticola
And then you remember on the way back in Albuquerque, what happened on the Runway?
Dan Bernstein
I remember. I thought it was the way there, wasn't it?
Matt Abaticola
I thought it was on the way back.
Dan Bernstein
I remember the guy. The guy's name was George.
Matt Abaticola
He was like 90 years old, and he was in, like, a mechanic's jumpsuit on the wing, on his belly with a screwdriver, tightening something.
Dan Bernstein
And then he.
Matt Abaticola
Hammering right outside the window of who seat? Terry's. And then the old guy stands up and. What's his name? George.
Dan Bernstein
It said. It said George on his shirt.
Matt Abaticola
But that was a. That was a. Terry. That was a Danz and pillow special. Because it was. It was cheaper to send us from Chicago through Kansas City, through Albuquerque to Tucson. Because it was cheaper.
Dan Bernstein
We weren't supposed to stop at Albuquerque. We had to. Because of the problem with the wing.
Matt Abaticola
No, because we took it. That.
Dan Bernstein
We took that.
Matt Abaticola
That. That whole back home. That was. That was the plan.
Dan Bernstein
Okay.
Matt Abaticola
Because we had a flight with two stopovers.
Dan Bernstein
Yes. And. And then. And of course, Terry was like John Lithgow in the Twilight Zone remake episode where he's pointing out there and he's like, george is hammering on the wing. And it was this old dude in a gray jumpsuit who was. At first, he had a big screwdriver. And I thought Terry was losing his mind because he's screaming about this guy George. Like, how do you know his name is George? It says so. It says George. He's George. What is he doing? My God.
Matt Abaticola
Yes.
Dan Bernstein
So that's the only time I was in Albuquerque.
Matt Abaticola
Same.
Dan Bernstein
I don't think it counts. But here's what Diego says. Albuquerque is like a real life Grand Theft Auto. So it's always been kind of like normal to us, you know, talking about drinking and being stupid. Is that in Grand Theft Auto? Do you. Do you drink and get stupid?
Matt Abaticola
I don't remember the. The drinking parts of it, but I just remember Grand Theft Auto. You could just do anything you want at any time. You could just walk up to someone with a bat and start beating them. I mean, it was just. It was a very violent.
Dan Bernstein
Is Albuquerque really like that because if you're in the Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce, you can't like what Diego Pavia is doing.
Matt Abaticola
It says here that the.
Dan Bernstein
The.
Matt Abaticola
There's a significant decrease in violent crime, homicides, robberies, aggravated assaults has been declining since 2018.
Dan Bernstein
Well, it depends. Kind of where we started, right?
Matt Abaticola
Yeah, I guess that's a good point.
Dan Bernstein
Right. Okay. I'm just making sure. But this is.
Matt Abaticola
Again, I just, I have a hard time believing that any, any city in the US Is going to be similar to what you get to do and experience in Grand Theft Auto video game.
Dan Bernstein
But apparently the Pavia family grew up in what they said is real life gta. It's always been kind of. It's always kind of normal to us. You know, I. So that's an interesting picture of Albuquerque. Diego and. And these, the brothers are just running wild here, Javier and Roel Pavia. So have fun, I guess. Javier is 25, Roel is 26.
Matt Abaticola
And they so very young.
Dan Bernstein
They thought they grew up in a video game and that's why they're acting like this. And it's fine with Diego because they tried to stop. And then when they stopped drinking, they lost. And then the games this year that they weren't drinking, they. So I guess assaulting police officers and being publicly drunk and loutish is what they want.
Matt Abaticola
So that.
Dan Bernstein
That's your guy.
Matt Abaticola
That Alabama game, they lost, they lost because that was like a professional. That was like an NFL level defense that they were going against and just couldn't do anything offensively. The Texas game, I think he was sacked more in that game than he had been sacked the previous five or six or seven games even. I think he was sacked seven times. And that was a game where they came back in the fourth quarter, put a lot of points on, had an onside kick that went through two of their own players hands before it rolled out of bounds. So they could have recovered that. They would have tied it with a field goal if not taken a lead with a touchdown.
Dan Bernstein
That's your guy, though. This is the. You own the entire Pavia family.
Matt Abaticola
Okay, let's not go that far.
Dan Bernstein
I've owned them. You're in charge of them. You're in charge of all Pavia's.
Matt Abaticola
He's. He's my guy this year. I will, I will accept this. They're on my team.
Dan Bernstein
They're on your team. You're in charge. You have to have Roel and Javier, if you have, they come with him. It's like taking Billy Carter with you.
Matt Abaticola
You know, well, you know, like five years ago that I probably could have showed him a good time. Now maybe I can help them get sober. So. Oh, my God.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah.
Matt Abaticola
Oh, they would have been. They would have been prime Team Lodge members.
Dan Bernstein
Although no one in Team Lodge assaulted a police officer.
Matt Abaticola
No, we never know. We. We never, we never got arrested, you know, being out. But we could have added them to the roster and they.
Dan Bernstein
Oh, yeah, they could have been like your special strike force at some point, like if you needed to call in.
Matt Abaticola
The Pavias or we just wanted someone to get arrested, just call them up for the night.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah, just. Just for cred. Yeah.
Matt Abaticola
Team Lodge.
Dan Bernstein
Team Lodge. You would heard us.
Matt Abaticola
Team Lodge Albuquerque.
Dan Bernstein
You've heard us talk a lot about Protein Bar and Kitchen. And there is something big right now at Protein Bar and Kitchen called the brand new Power Players menu. So what the Power Players menu is, is your favorite PBK classics, but they're packing them with even more protein right now. Because you're listening to DBU, you get 50% off when you order through the PBK app or any of the digital kiosks in their multiple Chicagoland locations. And I know there's one near you, especially if you work downtown. There's one almost like on every corner, it seems. And it's perfect for breakfast, for lunch, for dinner, for pre workout, post workout, or just that snack. Or instead of running and getting the equivalent of like a coffee milkshake, you can get something that keeps you full, that gets you going and is good for you. Their power Mexicali, 50 grams of protein. The power Cobb Salad, 70 grams. Power Black Bean Bowl, 56 grams. Their power Buffalo Bowl, 50 grams. Power Spinach and Pesto, 53 grams. And there is a better for you protein packed take on an eggnog shake. And that's the California almond milk holiday nog, apples, maple syrup, vanilla whey protein, nutmeg and cinnamon. 8.99. That's 15 grams of protein. Just 40 grams net carbs in 240 calories. So that sounds awesome. Yeah, you should definitely grab that. And as a DBU listener, 50% off your next Protein Barn kitchen visit. Up to $25 off one use per person when ordering the app or at a digital kiosk. Not valid on delivery or catering orders. Not available at the airport locations. Definitely go to Protein Bar and Kitchen and definitely download their app. Protein Bar and Kitchen are good friends all day. Power.
Matt Abaticola
Yeah, I know you didn't ask and I can talk about it because I don't have a Vote. But my vote for the Heisman would be the kid from Ohio State.
Dan Bernstein
Really? Why?
Matt Abaticola
Yeah, I just think the consistency with which he, he has played all year long in leading his team into an undefeated, undefeated season as well as now. Like he. There. There have been opportunities where, where Mendoza has had like bigger games or like bigger moments, but that's because the, the team was maybe trailing or in a situation where he had to.
Dan Bernstein
Yep.
Matt Abaticola
And. And Julie's insane. Has never had to do that. I mean, it's just, it's been, it's just been consistency throughout the, the entire season. And yeah, I mean, I would just like, for that reason alone, I would say he's, he would get my, my vote if I, if I were to have one. But I would be saying it out loud though, if I did.
Dan Bernstein
No, but duly noted. I'm interested in all perspectives at this point. Before I cast my annual ballot, can I read you a headline that gave me nothing but warm fuzzies of total joy?
Matt Abaticola
You certainly can. And I'm going to say it's either about fishing, food, or Penn State.
Dan Bernstein
This is from CBSSports.com and this crossed yesterday. Okay. And the headline is this. Penn State's botched coaching search turns signing day into unprecedented disaster.
Matt Abaticola
Nailed it.
Dan Bernstein
The cut line is the Nittany Lions have lost over 20 commitments since James Franklin's firing and plummeted to number 150 in the 2026 class rankings. Wow.
Matt Abaticola
What were they? Were they like a top 10 or.
Dan Bernstein
I don't know, but in a picture of one of their players holding up an 8 and a half by 11 little mini poster that says, hire Terry Smith. That was the guy who's famously a Joe Bot.
Matt Abaticola
Yeah.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah. The rise, it's already. You can't. You can't kill the Joe Bots. You can't kill the people that love child rape. And they love celebrating the facilitation of child rape. So if they want to embrace this, if they end up hiring this idiot and they want to say, we are, we, we are, we are Penn State and we so love the institutional facilitation of child rape that we are going to hang our hat on that and keep going. So give us, give us all the buttons. Give us lean in. Go ahead now. Go ahead. If you want to do that. If you want to hire Terry Smith and empower the Joe Bots and embrace it, you've already gone. However many years it's been, 15 years, however long it's taken to finally have kids on that campus who don't know who Jerry Sandusky is. And yet. And yet you keep wanting to bring it back. You keep wanting to keep this in the news. You keep wanting to remind people how horrible you are. If you want to keep celebrating the institutional facilitation of child rape, by all means stay on this track. So here's what it says in the article. When Penn State made the bold move to fire longtime coach James Franklin On October 12, the assumption was clear. Act early, land a marquee replacement and steady the 2026 recruiting class as the starting point for the future. Instead, six weeks later, the class has completely come apart.
Matt Abaticola
Oops.
Dan Bernstein
As the early signing period opened Wednesday, Penn State was down to four commitments. Then they lost four star safety Matt Sieg to West Virginia, four star linebacker Terry Wiggins to Virginia Tech before lunchtime.
Matt Abaticola
And that's where Franklin is now.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah. It later signed four star edge rusher Jackson Ford and added three star quarterback Peyton Falzone, who had decommitted in June, only to lose three star cornerback Amore Polydor to Virginia Tech as well. After all the shuffling, the net result? Just two signees. With no permanent coach in place and the office empty on the most important day of the year for any program chasing national titles, the class is effectively gone and the damage is staggering. Wow. Other coaches are looking around going, what's going on over there? Said recruiting analyst Brian Doane. Since Franklin's dismissal, 24 commitments have backed out of the 2026 class, gutting a group that once sat inside the national top 20 that has now now plummeted to number 150. 11d commits have flipped to Virginia Tech.
Matt Abaticola
Then they got top 20 down to 150.
Dan Bernstein
Yep, they have the list of all of these people. So the October plan was supposed to create clarity instead of created a void. Top coaching target signed extensions to say stay put. And while Penn State kept looking, recruits made their own decisions and they are wondering if in fact they are going to have Terry Smith, their interim coach, locked into the full time position inside the building. There's real backing, reports CBS Sports, for interim coach Terry Smith, who guided the Nittany Lions at three straight wins to reach bowl eligibility. Their support is meaningful in a moment where recruits are fleeing the locker room is the only source of stability.
Matt Abaticola
Was was Franklin fired after the Northwestern game?
Dan Bernstein
Yes.
Matt Abaticola
Do you think this was an overreaction?
Dan Bernstein
No, I just think you didn't have.
Matt Abaticola
A plan or no, no, no. I mean like firing him. Was it, was there, was that an overreaction or is there more to it than just what happened in the first half season.
Dan Bernstein
He couldn't win a big game.
Matt Abaticola
Okay.
Dan Bernstein
He couldn't win a big game. They knew he could talk. They knew he could recruit. He just couldn't win a big game.
But now if you end up locking in this guy with his 409 button and embracing Joe Paterno and embracing everything that they were for all the wrong reasons, go ahead, have fun. Because, because it's going to, first of all, it's going to give me a punching bag that I just love to wail on.
So I would look forward to it for them to say, like, yeah, let's, what's, what's a good policy for us as a board of trustees, as a university to should we, should we be proud of using our football program to create a fake charity that was a victim farm for our longtime assistant coach? Yes, let's be proud of that and let's flaunt that and let's wear buttons that remind people of that. And let's take remember the guy whose statue we took down who resigned in shame saying he wished he could have done more and he should have done more and then he died. Let's rekindle all that. Let's bring that to the forefront so the rest of the world knows that this university.
And this football program and all that it represents is proud of the football program's role over decades in making sure Jerry Sandusky could rape as many children as possible. And the fact that the head coach with those 409 wins knew about it. Let's make sure that everybody understands how important that is to our identity. Enjoy that. Go ahead, please. Penn State, if after all this time.
Hire Terry Smith is where you are now, that he represents what Penn State football is all about and what Penn State fandom is all about. Hooray for child rape. Have fun. Please do. Because this is.
I'm going to enjoy watching and following closely to see some of these decisions that get made. So enjoy.
We've got big local news too, and we can't, we can't hide from the issues that we have locally, too. It's one thing to cast stones towards central Pennsylvania, but as you know, for a long time out here in the southwest suburbs of Chicago and specifically, you know, straight west out the I88 corridor out there by that Naperville Topgolf.
Topgolf's been a problem. And I have to say that there's progress and the progress is noted here in the Tribune. I saw this yesterday. A convicted felon who allegedly left a loaded handgun in his car while at a Naperville bowling alley, was arrested on felony charges by Naperville police. Asante Glover, 35, of Chicago will remain in the DuPage County Jail while awaiting trial on one count each of unlawful possession of a firearm by a repeat felony offender and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon with a prior conviction. Naperville police, doing a routine check of the parking lot at the Lucky strike Naperville.
At 1515 Aurora Avenue, saw a silver gun protruding from beneath the driver's seat of a Mercedes SUV. When the driver, identified as Glover, returned about 11:35pm the officer stopped him, made him get out of the SUV and recovered a loaded Glock.45 caliber handgun with a bullet in the chamber and a fully loaded magazine. His next court appearance is scheduled for December 18th. So what this tells me is we are making some progress in that word is out on the street, the Top Golf too high.
It's just too hot. Too much police presence at the top Golf. If you're going to be out there with your gun in your car in plain sight, maybe, Maybe it's finally starting to sink in that word is getting back that they're. They're coming for you at the topgolf. So if you do want to have your car with the gun in plain sight, maybe they're moving on to the bowling alley where that's where it's supposed to be done. Damn it.
Matt Abaticola
It seems more fitting, though, at a bowling alley than a top Golf. A golf range.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah, but it's. It's kind of the same thing, though.
Matt Abaticola
The.
Dan Bernstein
The Lucky Strike model is. It's all about using whatever the. The simple sport is to sell food and drink. That's where the. The profit margin isn't really in The. The sport itself is fungible. It's really about the experience and the. The drink and the shooping and all of that. But I would just say keep an eye on it. I don't know what might be next. I don't know if it's going to be pool or darts or what it could possibly be, because I think the.
Matt Abaticola
Like, the Pavia gang, I think. I know. I picture them as, like. I picture them as like, like, you know, like they're a bowling alley crowd.
Dan Bernstein
I would beat me to it.
Matt Abaticola
Oh, did I?
Dan Bernstein
Sorry. Oh, I think they've got a paid appearance there. I think the Pavias, the Flying Pavia brothers. Yeah, the Pavia put it out there.
Matt Abaticola
Because, you know, it's like the, like, caddyshack we got a pool and a pond. I think a pond be good for you. It's like, you know, there's a golf range and a bowling alley. I think a bowling alley.
Dan Bernstein
Good for you. Perfect for you. Roel and Javier have like, a. I.
Matt Abaticola
Don'T know, like a. I don't know. Whatever.
Dan Bernstein
Whatever.
Matt Abaticola
The most popular shot is now for the kids. They could do an appearance there for that. That shot brand.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah. What are they doing? What are the kids drinking these days? I know when I was down at Tulane, there was something called a boot bomb, but that is endemic and native only to the Tulane student bar.
Matt Abaticola
I always see, like, my sunset has a huge display for Fire.
Dan Bernstein
I thought you were gonna say my son.
Matt Abaticola
No, no. My. My. My sunset. I go to, they have a huge display at the front of the store for fireball. I don't know if that's still a big thing with the kids.
Dan Bernstein
There's. And now there's, like, a sour apple fireball.
Matt Abaticola
Oh, really?
Dan Bernstein
I think. Or some kind of spicy hot. Like a spicy apple. Yeah. It was a holiday version of things. Now, speaking of which, I. I've had to make sure that I was going to do this, but I am. You know how we talk a lot about my personal habit? Hobby. It's a hobby of finding adoptive homes.
Matt Abaticola
Oh, yeah.
Dan Bernstein
For discounted groceries.
Whether it's. Whether it's discount meat, spoiled meats, or. It's not spoiled, it's just gray. And the baked goods at Mariano's don't rescue desserts. I always rescue desserts. And other things. Sometimes it might be one of those olive focaccias that's just a little stale. I might grab that.
I made a terrible mistake.
I finally have reached.
Matt Abaticola
Is this the first time?
Dan Bernstein
Yeah. Because even when I got. What did we call it? The one that looked like roadkill, that there was the sweet roll death cake or something.
Matt Abaticola
Or.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah. What did Zoe call it?
Matt Abaticola
Killer Murder. Murder.
Dan Bernstein
Murder cake. Yes. Murder cake. This was. That tasted great. Okay, this did not.
Matt Abaticola
Did this look worse? Look equally like.
Dan Bernstein
Like.
Matt Abaticola
All right, was it equal in appearance? Was it worse? Oh, you have it. Oh, I have it. Oh. So definitely was not good. You didn't finish it.
Dan Bernstein
Well, I'll finish part of it. Let me. Give me a little latitude here, please, your honor. First of all, what I saw was there was a pack of chocolate that had 490. Okay, okay. This is usually. This is usually what, 12 bucks?
Matt Abaticola
At least.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah, for a 30 piece. It's a 30 piece of Halloween candy. Okay.
Matt Abaticola
Okay, so it's Halloween candy that you got on discount.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah.
Matt Abaticola
Okay.
Dan Bernstein
Now, and I looked and I glanced at this and you see, I think.
Matt Abaticola
There'D be Reese's in there.
Dan Bernstein
There's the Reese's pumpkin and the Reese's bat. Now, as you know, I think the best Reese's Peanut Butter cups are the seasonal items because of the ratio of chocolate to peanut butter. If it's not an actual peanut butter cup for whatever reason, the Christmas tree, the pumpkins.
Matt Abaticola
There's more. There's more.
Dan Bernstein
The Easter Bunny. I just. I just. I don't know what it is. May. Or maybe it's. It's a placebo effect. I like it better. There is a Hershey's Fangs.
Matt Abaticola
Okay. What is that?
Dan Bernstein
It's white chocolate cookies and cream with chunks of like Oreo stuff. Oh, okay. There's the Reese's pumpkin and it's good. Okay. Okay. There are also two.
Affronts to human existence in here.
Matt Abaticola
They're that bad?
Dan Bernstein
Yes. I gotta make sure I get both of them here. And I want to say this first, that I love chocolate. I love these products that are all made currently by the, the Hershey Company. And I'm a huge fan of Kit Kats. I love Kit Kats.
Matt Abaticola
Yeah, I like Kit Kats too.
Dan Bernstein
I'm gonna present two of these to you. This.
Matt Abaticola
These are flavors. Okay.
Dan Bernstein
This is the KitKat Witches Brew flavor. Okay. Okay. It is crisp wafers in marshmallow flavored cream. C R E M E. Okay. These are green.
Matt Abaticola
Is it green?
Dan Bernstein
Bright green.
Matt Abaticola
Green.
Dan Bernstein
This.
Is the Breaking Bones Kit Kat. You see that? Okay. This is described as crisp wafers in vanilla flavored cream. C M E. So it's a white.
Matt Abaticola
I'm imagining it's white.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah.
Matt Abaticola
Okay.
Dan Bernstein
Don't eat these.
Matt Abaticola
They're that bad.
Dan Bernstein
Don't eat these.
Matt Abaticola
Come on, seriously.
Dan Bernstein
This witch's brew.
Don'T eat it.
Matt Abaticola
All right, well, I'm gonna go through because I was actually just saw some Halloween candy still. The kids Halloween. Their bags of the stuff they collected. I'm gonna go. I'm gonna rifle through that when we're done here and see if there's a witch's brew.
Dan Bernstein
Okay.
Matt Abaticola
Or the Breaking Bones. They should have done like the Breaking Bad one where it's like it's all full of meth.
Dan Bernstein
Maybe that'd be better. This. All I can say is the, the witch's brew.
You remember being on a car trip with your family in the summer?
Matt Abaticola
No, I don't have those.
Dan Bernstein
I want you. I want you to just imagine. And I like the.
The car. This like the summer family. You're going somewhere. Like you're going to the Upper Peninsula in Michigan or you're going to. And it's hot and the windows are down and it's, you know, the vinyl seats and there's, you know, mom is up front smoking and.
It'S just how you're sticking to the vinyl and you're arguing with your siblings and then you stop somewhere for gas and you go in and you grab candy or whatever and your parents, whatever, just. Can we get candy? Yeah, yeah, yeah, grab something. And you grab a bag of those circus peanuts. Yeah.
Matt Abaticola
Disgusting.
Dan Bernstein
And now there's like some that are like banana flavor. But this was like the original Brock's. Yeah, they're orange, but there's like, there's like a. This. If you took a Kit Kat and instead of chocolate you covered it in a distillation.
Like a chemical. Esther. Distillation of.
Not the first bite of that circus peanut that you picked up at that seedy convenience store. I'm talking about the last bite. You get back in the car on a 90 degree day with the windows open and you're stuck to the vinyl seat and you take a bite and you've had too many of them. And you realize you've had too many of them.
Matt Abaticola
Yeah.
Dan Bernstein
That the essence of that bite is what this tastes like. Okay?
Matt Abaticola
Circus peanuts are disgusting, period. And I think anyone who eats circus peanuts still is definitely a serial killer. They are disgusting. And I can say that too about my son in law who loves circus peanuts and I'm pretty sure he's killed people before because they are, they're, they're gross.
Dan Bernstein
I just. Because you know what? We've done candy reviews and all I can tell you is I will be as honest as I can as the day is long when it comes to how I feel about these candies. Well, a lot of us find one.
Matt Abaticola
I'm determined to find one in their bag of candy upstairs.
Dan Bernstein
And let me say this too about this is sort of like our bears criticism. I criticize KitKat intensely because I love KitKat.
Matt Abaticola
Because you love KitKat, right?
Dan Bernstein
I love, love, love regular Kit Kat.
Matt Abaticola
I do too. They're.
Dan Bernstein
And they're outstanding. And this was disappointing. This, you don't need this. No one needs this. No one needs it. Just a regular Kit Kat is fine. This one not, not great. But, but this, you, you, you have to find all of these, round them up and bury them.
Matt Abaticola
Okay.
Dan Bernstein
Or set them on fire. Oh, no, don't set them on fire. Because I think the cloud would kill people.
Matt Abaticola
Have you There was an email that came through about Nut Rageous. Have you had a nut rageous?
Dan Bernstein
I have not yet. I've had to take five. I've not.
Matt Abaticola
I'm gonna go find the nut. Ray. I'm go get a Nut Rageous here next time I'm at the store because it was caramel and peanut butter and roasted nuts all covered in chocolate. It sounds really good. Yeah.
Dan Bernstein
Okay, I'm in. I'm down. Definitely give that a shot.
Matt Abaticola
A good roasted nut.
Dan Bernstein
