I never thought I would miss Bad Bulls basketball like I do, but please can we have Bad Bulls basketball back?
Dan Bernstein
I miss it too.
Jason
I saw Tomorrow. I know I miss it. This particular break has felt longer. Maybe it's because there's no hockey either. It feels like there's no anything except people screaming at me on my television about sports. I don't know or understand.
Dan Bernstein
It's been a really weird, long break.
Jason
Yes, especially.
Dan Bernstein
Especially because of being in New Orleans and having Mardi Gras and feeling like tequila sunrise was eight days ago. But yesterday morning at 8:30am I was at the Boot.
Jason
That's what Tequila Sunrise is.
Dan Bernstein
You stay up the entire night and at the Boot.
Jason
Yes, okay. And you Made it. It's Ash Wednesday, so you made it through. Yesterday was Fat Tuesday. You've emerged. You. You lived through another Tulane University Mardi Gras. Was it as good as last year?
Dan Bernstein
It was fun, yeah, I think because I had a friend from home as well, that made it. That made it even more fun. But my room is in quite the predicament right now.
Jason
Were you human trafficked this year?
Dan Bernstein
What do you mean?
Jason
Were you thrown in the back of a U haul or put in?
Dan Bernstein
Not this year, no. Okay.
Jason
Because we get that letter from the parents that says if your dumb ass kid ends up in the. What is it? Jefferson Parish Jail, you don't call and.
Dan Bernstein
No, the biggest thing. The biggest thing is public urination.
Jason
Okay.
Dan Bernstein
And touching the horses. Those are the two that really get you.
Jason
What about urinating on a horse? That. Then you're. You're.
Dan Bernstein
I think. I think. I think that's the death penalty.
Jason
Okay. Just making sure.
Dan Bernstein
So I. I will. I will neither confirm nor deny the public urination. However, the touching horses, I did not do. But on the public urination, I plead the fifth.
Jason
Who's policing the horse? Touching. Like there's a. You're talking about the cop on the horse.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah, there are cops on horses.
Jason
And then if you touch the horse, the cop drags you away.
Dan Bernstein
No, I think the horse gives you a little one of those back kicks.
Jason
That's no fun. No, you don't want that.
Dan Bernstein
I think the horse does it straight to the nads, too. I think that's part of the deal.
Jason
I just pictured the Beavis and Butthead bit where he's got that machine that's cranking the beep. What are you doing over there?
Dan Bernstein
Nothing.
Jason
I don't know. It looks like you're. No.
Dan Bernstein
Or the Family Guy thing. It's a cutaway. When Peter, for some reason, has a horse leg and Brian walks up to the fridge and goes, can you grab me a beer? And Peter just kicks the crap out of him and goes flying across the room and goes, oh, I'm so sorry, Brian. I'm still getting used to this thing.
Jason
The conundrum facing the bulls now is an interesting one to me. So let me lay this out for you and tell me what you think.
Dan Bernstein
Okay.
Jason
Everybody saying, some of us are saying it, some are not saying it. It is clear that at a very minimum, the byproduct of the deadline moves of this roster purge, where they got seven gone and seven new. Whatever you want to do it. The byproduct is they're likely to lose More than they would otherwise have won, they will put themselves in a position to increase their odds of getting one of the top three picks in this draft, in this very top heavy draft. Okay, so so far you'll stipulate to all these things. Now on the other side of that, it is really important to find out which of the these raw materials they got back that didn't seem to have value to other teams. Some of these secondary draft pieces that we all last episode that we went through in fine detail, some are going to fit, some are not. And all that we can do over the final 30 games here is get an idea, a real idea of who's in future plans and who isn't based on game, based on age and based on how they work with Josh Giddy and modest Bouz Ellis, who we know aren't probably going anywhere. We stipulate to that.
Dan Bernstein
Yes.
Jason
Okay, so here's my problem. They have to play hard and do everything they can possibly do to win. Once Josh Giddey comes back, which is apparently soon because he's back to playing three on three. So even though you would like for them to say, hey, we'll manage the minutes in a way that gets people a little bit of run, but we're not going to go too hard. We're not going to do anything that's going to bring in the wrath of Adam Silver at this point. But you're working at cross purposes because they're going to be balling out under Billy Donovan with this crew. If you think it's not enough anyway, you're probably fine. But what I'm trying to figure out is, as we get, what did you describe is the, the perfect game would be they play hard. They play hard. They play hard and they lose at
Dan Bernstein
the end, which is what they've been doing so far.
Jason
So far, yeah.
Dan Bernstein
But when Giddy comes back, that's a guy that helps you win.
Jason
Correct. And yet it is also the most important thing to see of Ivy, Dillingham, Richards, everyone who fits with the way Giddy plays.
Dan Bernstein
I agree with that.
Jason
So it's going to be tough.
Dan Bernstein
And I think the two biggest guys there are Dillingham and Ivy because you don't take a shot on those two guys without thinking that, oh, they could legitimately be a part of something. And Ivy's the biggest question mark because of his injury history and we don't know if he'll get back to that speed demon that he was. And Simons is an interesting one as well. However, he might command a lot of money this off season. I love his game. I love his game. I think he's a really good player. I think he's better than Kobe White. And if Simons is going to be that catch and shoot guy next to. Next to giddy like Kobe White was, okay, sure. How much are you willing to pay him?
Jason
Well, and Simons is also more than that because a lot of his shots do come off the bounce come off as a.
Dan Bernstein
He's a really good creator for himself and he has great pace. I just think he's a good player and he's really entertaining. I am interested to see how Dillingham fits in just because he came into the league projecting as a lead guard and he's really fast and really interesting. He just needs to grow in.
Jason
He needs to also with him and hearing Billy talk about it, he needs to understand good shots from bad shots.
Dan Bernstein
He needs to grow in multiple ways. I think.
Jason
Yeah.
Dan Bernstein
I think he needs to get in the gym and I think he needs to grow in a basketball sense when it comes to knowing what to do and when to do it, he has the speed and speed kills. I know it's not football, but speed kills in basketball as well. Especially with the way that Donovan runs his team, which we've seen multiple times where they'll play three good quarters and then just run out of gas. So I think Dillingham's a guy that can fit that style of play. We'll see about Ivy. It's going to be interesting. It's going to be interesting.
Jason
Are you wearing a Lakewood Bar and Grill?
Dan Bernstein
Oak Wood. Oakwood. Okay.
Jason
Is that the one on Montrose?
Dan Bernstein
Yeah.
Jason
Have you been there?
Dan Bernstein
Multiple times.
Jason
I've always wanted to stop in there. It looks sketchy.
Dan Bernstein
It's not really. No. No.
Jason
And why do you have.
Dan Bernstein
It's a dive bar. It's open until God knows how long.
Jason
Oh. It's got a 4:00am License. Mm.
Dan Bernstein
And they were giving away T shirts and I got one.
Jason
Okay. I'm just curious. I've driven by it a million times.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah.
Jason
And it always. But I don't know. Okay.
Dan Bernstein
It's great.
Jason
I'm just making sure.

Jason
I think Dillingham is really interesting and I don't know what the Minnesota people told him his eventual NBA role was going to be there or what they said. Here's what. When they drafted him, here's how we see you, here's what we want you to work on. And I hope that they can reset him to factory defaults and basically say it's like we pretend we drafted you, pretend you're coming here, no expectations. Whatever your game was, whatever you thought you were going to be when you were a top 10 pick, we're open to thinking about whatever that might be. That's what I hope. Because sometimes these, these, these second drafts, these rookies on their original contract who aren't getting any run for whatever reason or are considered a disappointment for whatever reason, you can't allow the judgment of the previous team to necessarily bias the way you see that.
Dan Bernstein
We've seen that happen a number of times in the past too. Derek Favors was the third overall pick by the Nets and he got shipped to Utah. Buddy Heald went to the Pelicans and was traded to the Kingsford demarcus Cousins. So there's a lot, there are a lot of guys like that who have carved out good NBA careers for themselves. And so I hope, I agree with you in that. I hope the Bulls just say have at it kind of f around. Find out for the rest of this season and let's just, let's just work on your game and let's see what the limit is and just go.
Jason
I am, I would like to know if anybody who, anybody who's traded on a rookie contract became a star.
Dan Bernstein
That's what I'm trying to think. That's a tough question.
Jason
And not, not somebody traded on draft night. No, I know somebody traded on draft night. So here's here are some names that have come up from just on Google. It says Pau Gasol. No, his draft rights were traded. That doesn't count. Mikhail Bridges said treated to the Brooklyn Nets as part of the Durant trade.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah, but that was, that was, that was three years removed from when he was drafted. He was already established. He already played in the finals with Phoenix. Right.
Jason
He was, he was already really good. There's nothing that jumps to Mind of one of these reclamations. If somebody was like, you know, a first round pick who. It happens in baseball more often. It happens in basketball.
Dan Bernstein
We're really stupid. Shay, Gilgis, Alexander.
Jason
He was on Clippers Paul George trade. So that. Yeah, it was Paul George to the
Dan Bernstein
Clippers for Shea and five first round picks. Look at that.
Jason
How long had Shea played?
Dan Bernstein
One year. One full year in la. Wow. Kentucky guard. Yeah, I don't. I don't.
Jason
I don't. Good pull on your part, though.
Dan Bernstein
I looked it up. I looked it up.
Jason
That's really interesting. You must have had better search terms than I. You're.
Dan Bernstein
I just looked up. Has anyone on an NBA rookie contract been traded and been great?
Jason
Okay, well.
Dan Bernstein
Halliburton. Halliburton, that's another one. Kings to the Pacers.
Jason
Yes.
Dan Bernstein
That was, I think his second year. He was traded.
Jason
All right, well those. Okay, good.
Dan Bernstein
So those are two good names.
Jason
Well done.
Dan Bernstein
Thank you.
Jason
Well done. That's exactly that. That's a perfect asked and answered so that to have eyes on Dillingham because you got to give. No matter what happens with Ivey, we know that it's going to be more than 30 games. He's going to need a full off season. And we've talked at length about his medical concerns and what you hope he's going to be able to do on the court, off the court, whatever the rehabilitation may be to get back where he needs to be. But Dillingham has no such restrictions and might just have to learn to play. And certainly they all have to get in shape in this uptempo system that Donovan's running. And I believe you said last week that there's still a lot of people out there who are faulting Billy Donovan for some of the issues the Bulls have had. And I still don't get it. I really don't. I don't know how you can identify at what he specifically has been the problem.
Dan Bernstein
None.
Jason
I don't think so either.
Dan Bernstein
Like when I can do.
Jason
When I was unhappy with Billy, it was because they took too long to get away from demar Ball that they took too long to. To not only get out from under the whole demar Zach thing.
Dan Bernstein
I agree with that to an extent. Because you're not going to tell a player like DeMar DeRozan to run up
Jason
and down the floor and cheats on.
Dan Bernstein
I think that's a Hall of Fame player. I mean, he hasn't had much playoff success, but you look at his numbers, the amount of points he's put up like he's a great, he's your favorite player's favorite player and he's, he's an all time great scoring artist. That's. I'm not saying any other part of the game at putting the ball in the basket. He is remarkably skilled and you can't tell somebody like that not to do that anymore.
Jason
You know, just came along at the wrong time.
Dan Bernstein
He was, he was a player lost those four months. Ah, that was what, that was four years ago already. Ridiculous.
Jason
But even so, he apparently couldn't control of, you know, when the game changed around him because he's been here a while, but it changed very, very fast and in the wrong direction for him. But nice guy. He was. He did some good things with the Bulls. We won some games. Give him a lot of credit.
Dan Bernstein
No, he had that. His first season was insane. His February stretch where he tied like wilt for whatever 35 point game on, I think it was 55 plus percent from the field nine straight times.
Jason
Yeah. And he had the consecutive game winning
Dan Bernstein
shots on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.
Jason
Yeah. There was at Indiana and then Washington. Yep. Yeah, it was great. It was a nice little run and ultimately didn't mean anything except what ended up meaning more were the draft picks that they had to give up for him for a half a season of entertainment when we thought they were better than they were. If I had to come along a little later, maybe they would have an NBA cup to show for it. They would have the. Whoever's sponsoring the trophy. Trophy in their case. Well, now it'll be somebody else probably soon. Now this is. We're going to talk about some things here that you're probably better at than I am and I'll have to defer to you because you are an extremely online person in ways that I'm not.
Dan Bernstein
But apparently calling me chronically online. Really appreciate that.
Jason
Am I wrong?
Dan Bernstein
No, not at all.
Jason
Okay, well, the, the online discourse, as our producer Cody Delmendo put it, the online discourse surround surrounding three all time NBA greats. Yeah, surrounding, I'd say the greatest player of all time, the person too many people think is the greatest player of all time and one of the greatest ever scores of all time, if not the greatest pure scorer ever, are all finding themselves topics of discussion among the short attention span crowd. Where do you want to start?
Dan Bernstein
Kevin Durant, man. What?
Jason
Okay, well describe it first.
Dan Bernstein
Oh my goodness. Just. Long story short, Kevin Durant has always been very active on Twitter and responding to people and there have been Rumors with pretty good evidence and screenshots and all this stuff that Kevin Durant has been running a burner account to trash talk teammates.
Jason
Teammates. Not trolls.
Dan Bernstein
No, not trolls.
Jason
Not random people. Not to have opinions on things.
Dan Bernstein
He was weak. And the evidence is that he's talking. When somebody would ask him a question, he would talk about it from first person perspective. That account was wished a happy birthday on Kevin Durant's birthday on September 29th by someone that. By an account. I don't know. And the people that he's talking about are. Aren't trolls. And it's, it's. And he was asked recently by a reporter about, about. He goes, that's just Twitter stuff. We're locked in on winning right now.
Jason
That is not a denial.
Dan Bernstein
No, that. It's not. It's. And there's so many clips of him this season just walking to the locker room or something and people say, yo, Kevin, he's always on his phone typing.
Jason
Okay.
Dan Bernstein
It's. It's hysterical. And he said something about Steve Kerr saying if. When Michael Jordan. Who we'll talk about later. When Michael Jordan punched him. He's. He's always been against dark skinned players.
Jason
What? Durant said this.
Dan Bernstein
Durant said that.
Jason
Durant said he said something about harbors a grudge. He harbors a. Hold on a second.
Dan Bernstein
Yes.
Jason
Kevin Durant said Steve Kerr harbors a grudge against dark skinned players because Michael Jordan punched him. I remember when that happened too. That means.
Dan Bernstein
Let me get some more stuff. He called Jabari Smith Jr. His own teammate a bad word. He said that Alperin Shangoon can't defend or shoot.
Jason
He certainly can't defend.
Dan Bernstein
No, he can't defend. He said that even though that Ben Simmons sucks, he misses playing with them because he would give him the ball
Jason
because he didn't want to shoot.
Dan Bernstein
He. He talked about Kyrie being a diva, which is. I mean, that's fair.
Jason
And how feel the need to do this publicly?
Dan Bernstein
It. Well, it wasn't supposed to be. It was in Twitter group chats and it got. It got like leaked and stuff. It's. It's really.
Jason
Oh, wait, a Twitter group chat is what, compared to a text group chat?
Dan Bernstein
Pretty much the exact same thing.
Jason
It's like a DM group chat.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah, yeah, it's very. It's pretty much. Okay. Oh, all right.
Jason
So he wasn't. He wasn't posting?
Dan Bernstein
No, he was on his teammates. It was in a group chat that got leaked.
Jason
Yes, and that's important to know. Okay. Still.
Dan Bernstein
Still, you gotta be Careful, man.
Jason
I know, but he really doesn't. Wasn't this happened before? Wasn't there another burner account years ago?
Dan Bernstein
Yeah. With kd. You're saying.
Jason
I thought.
Dan Bernstein
I'm sure there was.
Jason
I thought there was another issue with that.
Dan Bernstein
So. In the New York Times, Kevin Durant brushes off burner accusations. Let me find the. I know you got to ask these questions, but I'm not here to get into Twitter nonsense. My teammates know it. But. Hold on. But I get. I get. You all have to ask. My teammates know what it is. We've been locked in the whole season. We had a great practice today. Looking forward to the road trip. That's not a. No.
Jason
No. That isn't. It's. I'll sue anybody who says this. And, you know, like, he. He didn't want to fight too hard to say it's not him because maybe he wants some of this stuff out there. I don't. It doesn't seem like a big enough deal, but I. It just. It's just weird to me that he's this. I think the. The previous issue there have been. Was it Brian Colangelo.
Dan Bernstein
Yes.
Jason
Who had the same thing.
Dan Bernstein
Zones made fun of him?
Jason
Yes. That was in Phoenix.
Dan Bernstein
So.
Jason
All right. I mean, he's always been kind of emotionally needy with some of this stuff. Durant has about. Fine. But. But he doesn't care if people make fun of his hairline. Now there are two. Go ahead. What?
Dan Bernstein
A Kyrie thought the white European was going to play honorable hoops. Meaning. Luca, I'm crying. What else is there?
Jason
Is he saying that the white Europeans don't play honorable hoops in general? Was that his point?
Dan Bernstein
No. I don't know. I'm reading through more of this. I swear I miss Ben Simmons. Least that blank would give me the ball.
Jason
Maybe he just needs the release.
Dan Bernstein
Oh, he.
Jason
I don't know.
Dan Bernstein
He. He called Devin Booker and Frank Vogel two dictators. He compared. He compared Devin Booker to Stalin and said the Suns are my team when we lose and Book's team when we win. It's. It's. It's really brutal.
Jason
I guess he doesn't. He's too old to care. It doesn't really have to. It doesn't seem to matter at this point. Unless he's trying to.
Dan Bernstein
Let's go to.
Jason
Let's go to LeBron defense. All right, so LeBron is next.
Dan Bernstein
And Porter asked him about Israel. I don't remember what the exact question was, but he just. I think he was trying to give a very apolitical. Answer. And. Mm. He just said, I know there are a lot of fans out there that, that watch me and I appreciate them and I would love to visit at some point. It was, it was pretty much that. And oh, Cody just made a chat. His, his, his Kevin Durant's burner account was get off my Dickerson. I don't know that. That's, that's the account name. But yeah, it's really weird. But I don't, I don't think LeBron said anything wrong. But now the online discourse is that LeBron is a Zionist and supports genocide. And I just, I don't want to get into this right now or my, my opinions regarding this because it's, you know, dangerous waters and.
Jason
Right.
Dan Bernstein
I don't think. My God, it's really, it's, it's ridiculous. And that.
Jason
Because LeBron said I have fans there and I would like to visit. Now he's Theodore Herzl.
Dan Bernstein
Don't know.
Jason
Now he's, now he's, he's. He's Golda My year. Come on. Come on, man. Like that's. Then you're just outraged. Shopping is all you're doing at that point. That's all you're. If somebody's mad about that or trying to read into that.
Dan Bernstein
I thought it was a totally fair answer and one that was not about politics at all. And saying you have a lot of fans there in a very basketball driven country and you want to visit a place like that. I don't think that's. I think a lot of people want to want to visit Israel. It's a very, It's a. Regardless of what you think, it's a very historic landmark.
Jason
Yeah, it's lovely there. But why.
Dan Bernstein
And the food is great.
Jason
I don't presume any political leaning or anything having to do with Israel's policies politically at all. Not one iota.
Dan Bernstein
I know.
Jason
So that's. People just sifting through everything they can find to find some reason to be outraged at somebody. And it's also would be completely out of character. Why not give the guy the benefit of the doubt and understand he was going out of his way to try to not piss you off and instead you're trying to find a reason why you're supposed to be pissed off. That's. That is.
Dan Bernstein
Well, LeBron is the most hated NBA
Jason
player ever for no reason.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah, he's. He's done. He opened a school in his hometown. He's. He's been loyal to his wife the, his entire career.
Jason
He had one ill advised press conference. 1, 1 Ill advised press conference. That's the. That's the closest thing he's ever.
Dan Bernstein
Sixteen years ago.
Jason
Yes. That's all. That's all. I don't. In. It makes no sense to me. Makes absolutely. I've never really understood it.
Dan Bernstein
He's playing with his kid. He's 41 years old and he's still averaging ridiculous numbers.
Jason
He had a triple double at 41. And being good. What are you mad at? It makes me crazy. And a lot of this stuff is all roads lead back to Jordan somehow.
Dan Bernstein
And here we go with that.
Jason
Oh, go ahead. I saw the video.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah, it was weird.
Jason
Jordan's team wins the. The Daytona 500. So Jordan is ecstatic. He's part of the celebration. His guy won.
Dan Bernstein
He like.
Jason
And the driver's. Yeah, the driver's son was in front of him. I forgot the driver's name. But that guy's son was what, 9 years old? And he's standing in front of him and Jordan was like goosing him or grabbing his ass and then tickling his legs. And that's a. That, that was some kind of a huge deal. You're agreeing with the fact that it was.
Dan Bernstein
Look, look really bad. Look really bad. It wasn't like a little like, you know, one of. One of these, you know, to the side the leg or something, or a head pat. It wasn't any of that. It was a good 10 seconds of. I don't want to say diddling, but it wasn't.
Jason
It wasn't like fondling. I don't.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah, it was.
Jason
Yeah, it was a little weird, but I don't know.
Dan Bernstein
And God. Oh, my God, it was so bad. It was just a ridiculous weekend because there was a lot that happened at Mardi Gras. Two with Tulane kids, and someone actually got arrested for fondling. Not a two lane. What?
Jason
Fondling a horse?
Dan Bernstein
No, no, a person. Oh, you were more concerned about the horse?
Jason
Well, I'm more. Cause that's what they throw you in jail for.
Dan Bernstein
Well, they threw this guy in jail. Anyway, every Tulane student got an update. It was at the boot, at.
Jason
Oh, they threw a kid out of the boot and into jail.
Dan Bernstein
It wasn't a kid. It was a full grown adult that doesn't go to Tulane.
Jason
Oh, so a townie.
Dan Bernstein
And I hate that I found this so funny. And we can cut this out if need be, but people were saying, congrats, guys. We got the Fat Tuesday fondler.
Jason
They're calling him the Fat Tuesday fondler.
Dan Bernstein
Yes. And there's a kind of Like a college Reddit page. I guess you could call it called Fizz, where people can anonymously post.
Jason
Oh, I bet that's a.
Dan Bernstein
That's a. Oh, it's a clusterfuck. Yeah.
Jason
Only imagine.
Dan Bernstein
And that's where I saw that for the first time. And whoever posted it was getting mad flack in the comments saying, you guys are diminishing violence significance.
Jason
Yeah, and I was the fondler. Fondling men or women or both?
Dan Bernstein
I don't know. I have no idea. I don't know.
Jason
Okay, but it was happening at the Boot.
Dan Bernstein
Yes. And I was there at that time. I was.
Jason
You have an alibi?
Dan Bernstein
I didn't get arrested.
Jason
That's not what I'm saying. I'm saying.
Dan Bernstein
What do you mean, do I have an alibi?
Jason
I'm saying you could have planned this thing and they could have the wrong
Dan Bernstein
man
Jason
that you could have. You could have set him up and framed him so they. They pull him out of there and you're. And you're able to continue uninterrupted.
Dan Bernstein
Dude, you need to stop. I'm.
Jason
Look, I'm just trying. This is. I've been. I'm not a conspiracy theorist.
Dan Bernstein
There was a video of the guy getting arrested and yelling at police officers and it was.
Jason
Sure. Because he didn't do it.
Dan Bernstein
30 year old or something.
Jason
Because he's innocent. Clearly. And this all is part of some.
Dan Bernstein
I hope my friends don't listen to this podcast. Otherwise.
Jason
Well, you just admitted being there. That. See, I'm.
Dan Bernstein
The entire school was there.
Jason
Well, that's not ruling yourself out. The only way you can be ruled out is if you weren't there.
Dan Bernstein
I did not plan it.
Jason
I'm getting to the bottom of this thing. I'm going to figure this out. I think they have the wrong man. I think you're going to have the wrong person doing time in there because I don't trust any of you. Any of you. Goose, is that your. Is that your Mardi Gras hat?
Dan Bernstein
Do you like my hat?
Jason
It's actually not bad. It's better than what you had on last year. It's better than last year.
Dan Bernstein
Caught it. What was last year?
Jason
I'll find it.
Dan Bernstein
Oh, the Afro wig thing. The giant. It had. That had beads in it.
Jason
Yes. Well, I gotta find it because. Yeah, here, this. What is that?
Dan Bernstein
Oh, no, that was the Amelia Earhart one.
Jason
Yeah, that was last Mardi Gras when you looked like Snoopy ready to take on the Red Baron. And you're sop with Camel.
Dan Bernstein
What happened? Mardi Gras is a time for dressing up like complete idiots. And apparently. Well, yeah. After the show.
Jason
And the best part is the shirt. Is that your Johan Moncada?
Dan Bernstein
Yeah. Well, it is. Yes. I wore that shirt too.
Jason
That's. You Will wore another Johan Moncada City Connect jersey.
Dan Bernstein
It's a great jersey. I don't know what the hell you're talking about.
Jason
And it says yo yo on the back. Yeah, it's awesome. Correctly. Okay.
Dan Bernstein
All right.
Jason
Awesome.
Dan Bernstein
Just making sure.
Jason
So. So we. We got Durant, LeBron, M.J. jordan and the Fat Tuesday Fondler, who's not any of those people. But I'm. I've got. I've got some what if it is. I'm going to get the what if
Dan Bernstein
Jordan planned that one too. I will.
Jason
Hold on a second. Now, there is somebody who's been mentioned on this show already who has been seen at that bar before.
Dan Bernstein
Oh, yes.
Jason
Wasn't a member of the Bulls at the time.
Dan Bernstein
No, there's a. Have you seen the video of Giddy? He was. He was walking back from the boot with the girl and this random Tulane student films. You just see his finger point and go, oh my God, it's Josh Giddy. Is she of age? It was right after all that stuff.
Jason
Well, but if he's in town with Oklahoma City and going to a two lane bar like the campus at the
Dan Bernstein
time, that was what, two years ago?
Jason
So he was.
Dan Bernstein
How old, how old is he now?
Jason
Yeah, he's 23 now. Right?
Dan Bernstein
He's 23. So he was 21. He was my age.
Jason
That makes sense. He was your age.
Dan Bernstein
Come on.
Jason
I mean, you can't just. I just remembered that at that particular bar there was a infamous Josh Giddy sighting when he was playing for Oklahoma City.
Dan Bernstein
Yes.
Jason
All right, so that is good for our.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah, this has been a slash.
Jason
We're getting everybody in trouble on this one.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah. Trying to get me in trouble for something that I. I didn't even hear about until yesterday. Sure.
Jason
See, listen all. I'm not buying any of this. I'm. Yeah, I didn't hear about it. I was there, but I didn't hear any about it.
Dan Bernstein
The other guy. Wish I could throw a shank right now. You need to shut up.
Jason
You need to shut up.
Dan Bernstein
Shut up.
Jason
All right, Time for the show do. All right, here's your question.
Dan Bernstein
I can't take anything seriously right now. Why? Because this weekend in general is just so messed up.
Jason
Yeah, I know.
Dan Bernstein
You got. Now you're just learning about everything and you're having the time of your life.
Jason
Yeah. Do you have class tomorrow? Yeah. Did you have class today?
Dan Bernstein
Yeah, I mean, I only had one, so.
Jason
Oh, okay.
Dan Bernstein
All right.
Jason
So Khan Knipple through 53 games.
Dan Bernstein
That's my answer.
Jason
He became the first rookie this year to reach 1,000 points.
Dan Bernstein
Okay.
Jason
That makes him. Since 2020. Okay, the fourth fastest player to reach 1,000 career points. Who are the three players since 2020 who reached 1,000 career points? Three games.
Dan Bernstein
They had to be drafted 20, 20 or later drafted.
Jason
So these 23 or later. Yeah, these are all rookies. These are all rookies who.
Dan Bernstein
Anthony Edwards.
Jason
No.
Dan Bernstein
Lamello. Because he had a really good rookie year.
Jason
Nope.
Dan Bernstein
And I'm just going to keep going with that draft. I'm going to say Tyrese Halliburton.
Jason
Nope.
Dan Bernstein
All right, so 53 games.
Jason
So I'll just give you the numbers of games. 44, 49 and 51.
Dan Bernstein
Okay. 44. Wow.
Jason
These three players.
Dan Bernstein
Cade.
Jason
Nope.
Dan Bernstein
I'm trying to think of just each draft. Wemby. What am I doing?
Jason
Wemby did it in 49 games.
Dan Bernstein
Does Chet count? Because he was hurt that first year, but he's probably not on there.
Jason
No, he's not.
Dan Bernstein
Paolo.
Jason
He's third. Paolo Bancaro. 51 games. Only two more than Wembanyama. Good guess.
Dan Bernstein
Well, yeah. So I just need the. The first one now.
Jason
Yep, you need the. The one since 2020.
Dan Bernstein
Not going to be Stefan Castle, is it? Because he had a good rookie year, but not Stefan Castle. Ooh, this is. This is tough. Watch it be like I do sumu or something. It's not going to be IO. But I mean, I just don't. And it. So it had to be in the rookie year.
Jason
Yep.
Dan Bernstein
Did this guy win rookie of the year?
Jason
He might have. I'll check.
Dan Bernstein
I'm thinking 20. Who was the. Who's in the 2021 NBA draft? Other than. That's the.
Jason
This guy. This guy was NBA. All rookie, first team, but not rookie of the year.
Dan Bernstein
Okay. Is he still really good? Yeah.
Jason
There's a caveat there. But yes.
Dan Bernstein
Caveat.
Jason
I'll. I will explain.
Dan Bernstein
Was he a draft pick?
Jason
He. Yes.
Dan Bernstein
Okay. I'm just making sure it wasn't some undrafted European Something. And no, he was.
Jason
He was very much a draft. But remember, he was. He was drafted. This is from when it happened. It happened in 2020.
Dan Bernstein
Oh, it was in 2020.
Jason
He was part. He was in the 2019 draft.
Dan Bernstein
Oh. Oh, Zion gotta be, right? Yes.
Sponsor/Ad Voice
Okay.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah.
Jason
I just. It's something. Wasn't hooking up.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah. Because I was thinking 2020 draft. Okay. Yeah, yeah. All right.
Jason
It was. It was ZION. And in 2021, he became the fourth youngest NBA player to be selected to an All Star.
Dan Bernstein
Interesting.
Jason
But he did make NBA all rookie, first team in 2020. But it's Zion, Wemby, and Boncaro and then Knipple.
Dan Bernstein
It's a lot of Duke guys.
Jason
Yes, it is.
Dan Bernstein
So my question also has to do with a thousand point seasons. Okay. And since the year 2000, there have been 12 players, or, sorry, 11 players to have at least 1,000 points in a season for 12 straight seasons.
Jason
You got me a thousand points. Okay. For 12.
Dan Bernstein
12 straight. And there are 11 players since 2000. So you got to think of guys that don't get injured because if you're hurt, you're then one. It has to be consecutive.
Jason
And not necessarily stars.
Dan Bernstein
No, I mean, they're all good players.
Jason
If not stars since 2000.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah.
Jason
Let's go with Carmelo.
Dan Bernstein
Carmelo did it 11 times because I think one year with the Knicks, he got hurt. So not 12. Good guess, though. Ooh. Try to get some easy names out of the way.
Jason
I mean, how about. How about LeBron?
Dan Bernstein
LeBron's number one. Doing it 22 straight seasons.
Jason
Yes. Durant.
Dan Bernstein
No. Hasn't even done it 10 straight times because that Achilles injury.
Jason
Oh, that's right. Steph.
Dan Bernstein
Nope. No, no.
Jason
Clay.
Dan Bernstein
Nope. He was hurt for too long, too. Like, you really got to think of guys that just played in a lot of games.
Jason
But that doesn't. What this is. This is harder than I thought.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah.
Jason
So I only. I only have LeBron.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah.
Jason
What about, like, Chris Paul?
Dan Bernstein
Nope. Didn't score. And like, I. He wasn't on this list.
Jason
How is he not since 2000. Did.
Dan Bernstein
Did Tim Duncan do it 11 times?
Jason
God, I'm getting killed over here.
Dan Bernstein
You've got how many. You've got multiple. You got 1, 2, 3 more MV, 4 more MVP hard on this list. Harden. Harden has done it 15 straight years.
Jason
Braun.
Dan Bernstein
How about Jokic hasn't played long enough, but he's done it 10 straight times. He hasn't played 12 years. I think this is his 11th season in the league.
Jason
Okay.
Dan Bernstein
Because you got to still think like 2000. Not just. Not just 2010.
Jason
I know, I know. It's not that easy.
Dan Bernstein
So now you got Harden so that now you still have one Westbrook. That's another one of the MVPs. Another 15 straight times.
Jason
Okay. Harden, LeBron and Westbrook.
Dan Bernstein
Because he. Russell Westbrook just doesn't really get hurt. Right. And so.
Jason
And he's. And he recovers ridiculously quickly.
Dan Bernstein
Yes.
Jason
This is. This is going to be harder than I thought.
Dan Bernstein
One of. One of these guys we talked about earlier on this podcast who's done it 16 straight times, including this season.
Jason
16 straight times, including this season. And we talked about him earlier. I mentioned. I said KD. And you said. No, we talked about LeBron earlier in the episode. Earlier, in the end, we were talking about the tanking and we were talking about how well you have to play and talking about. Oh, guys that were on rookie deals. Shea.
Dan Bernstein
No, he hasn't been around long enough.
Jason
Yeah, he's been the league long enough.
Dan Bernstein
Come on, man. Come on, man.
Jason
What a guy. We mentioned.
Dan Bernstein
Oh, yeah. Talked probably for a good couple of minutes about, actually. Demar. Yes. Demar DeRozan has done it for 16 straight seasons, second longest ever since.
Jason
He doesn't get hurt. He doesn't get hurt. No. And Embiid is way too hurt.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah. Right.
Jason
So that's not even close.
Dan Bernstein
You got. Let me think of how many you got left. You got one gimme. You need. I would say two to three of these are gimmes. I think it's 11 straight times for Giannis.
Jason
Giannis, because.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah, 11 straight times because.
Jason
So I've got three.
Dan Bernstein
No, you got four of them.
Jason
So you're. So I got elevens. This is. I got four. Evans. Yeah, because you're. The minimum is 12. Like, something like. Trey Young hasn't done it.
Dan Bernstein
Not in the league long enough.
Jason
Because he hasn't been around long enough. No, I know.
Dan Bernstein
Every single one of these players now is retired. Every single. Every single one of these guys is now retired. Oh, great. And he's still got two more MVPs.
Jason
This is going to be too hard for me. Not. That's who he was, an mvp. And Smash. I think this is. Be too difficult for me to go through everything.
Dan Bernstein
Nothing.
Jason
I don't know. I don't. I don't. I'm not sure.
Dan Bernstein
Do you want me to go if. No.
Jason
Oh, I don't think so.
Dan Bernstein
So you still want to keep working on this?
Jason
Okay. No.
Dan Bernstein
Oh, no. Hello?
Jason
I don't know. Go ahead.
Dan Bernstein
Oh, okay. You were cutting out for a good two minutes there, by the way, so just letting you know, I was. Oh, they're on my end. Maybe.
Jason
I don't know.
Dan Bernstein
Why?
Jason
It's a hard line plugged in, so you sound fine.
Dan Bernstein
Now, Paul Pierce did it 14 straight times. Okay.
Jason
Okay.
Dan Bernstein
LaMarcus Aldridge did it 13 straight times.
Jason
LaMarcus Aldridge. Jesus.
Dan Bernstein
Great player, this one. You should have gotten. Kobe Bryant did it 13 straight times. You should have gotten Kobe. Come on. Okay, right, okay. Dwyane Wade did it 13 straight times. Dirk Nowitzki did it 12 straight times. Joe Johnson did it 12 straight times.
Sponsor/Ad Voice
He did.
Dan Bernstein
Uh huh. Yeah. He was a scorer and ready for this name. Anton Jameson did it 12 straight times. Wow. He was a bucket man.
Jason
Yeah, I know.
Dan Bernstein
I looked at his numbers after I saw this.
Jason
I would not have gotten.
Dan Bernstein
He was a great player. His. No, I would. I want to look at his comps. Whoa. We are way too similar.
Jason
Yeah, I'm just. That, that would be really. I, I bet, I bet that would be a fascinating list.
Dan Bernstein
I mean he was a two time All Star. All Star, sixth man all rookie. Averaged 19 points for his career. He had a 24.9 point season at one point. You know, let me, let me, let me.
Jason
And he's an easy guy to look up because nobody else spells it the way he spells it. All right, I got it.
Dan Bernstein
You got two of those guys because you Wade on there as well. Did I, did I mention.
Jason
Yes, you did. Anton and Dwight. Oh, yeah. This is, this is fantastic.
Dan Bernstein
Hold on. I'm not, I can't.
Jason
Antoine Jameson's top comp.
Dan Bernstein
Oh, similarity scores. Here we go.
Jason
I got it.
Dan Bernstein
Oh, I see it now. Wow. Yeah, look.
Jason
Yeah, I'm looking at. Yeah, his, his comps are. David West.
Dan Bernstein
Look at that.
Jason
Terry Cummings, Cliff Robinson, P.J. brown, A.C. green, Richard Lewis, Paul Millsap, Andre Iguodala, Carmelo and Shane Battier.
Dan Bernstein
Those are, that's.
Jason
That'll make your head spin.
Dan Bernstein
Good. All of us guys are good players.
Jason
There's so many different kinds of players
Dan Bernstein
in there too because I mean you got. Yeah, they are mellow.
Jason
Good for different first battle reasons though. That's, that's a wild list. And then he's like, I, I see. I would. David west and Paul Millsap are like the same dude.
Dan Bernstein
No, Paul Mills. That was a better shoot.
Jason
All right, cool stuff. Yeah, but, but I always think of them very similarly. That is, that just could be on me. All right, cool stuff. Very good. That'll do it then. For this episode of Organizations win Championships. We're going to get back. We're going to. As we said at the outset, bad Bulls basketball is coming back to redeem us. We will have, I think Adam and Stacy just kind of cutting up for the remainder of the year because there's going to be some blowouts in here. There's going to be some weird games and we will do our best to scout these guys as best we can, especially as soon as Giddy comes back. And then we'll draw all sorts of wrong conclusions from what we see. And that has been OWC number 132. Like and subscribe and rate and we'll get you next time Organizations win championships. Podcast: Dan Bernstein Unfiltered
Host(s): Dan Bernstein, Jason (co-host)
Date: February 19, 2026
Episode Theme: Analyzing the post-trade deadline Chicago Bulls, focusing on how incoming players, particularly young talents and recent reclamation projects, will fit and develop alongside Josh Giddey and the team's new direction.
In this sharp, unfiltered discussion, Dan Bernstein and co-host Jason tackle the Chicago Bulls’ major roster changes post-trade deadline. With the team in clear retooling mode, the episode debates the challenge of balancing player development and "strategic losing" (to improve draft odds), while previewing how new and existing pieces — most notably Josh Giddey, Robert Dillingham, Jaden Ivey, and Anfernee Simons — might integrate. The conversation expands to thought-provoking NBA topics like reclamation projects, coaching criticisms, and extends into rapid-fire debates on online NBA discourse, from player "burner" accounts and LeBron James commentary to a humorous digression on Mardi Gras adventures.
On Bulls’ philosophy:
“The perfect game would be they play hard, they play hard, they play hard and they lose at the end.” — Dan Bernstein (07:12)
On reclamation projects:
“I hope the Bulls just say have at it, kind of f around, find out for the rest of this season — let’s just work on your game and see what the limit is.” — Dan Bernstein (12:10)
On Donovan:
"I don't know how you can identify at what he specifically has been the problem.” — Jason (15:48)
On DeRozan:
“That's a Hall of Fame player... he's an all-time great scoring artist. I'm not saying any other part of the game. At putting the ball in the basket, he is remarkably skilled." — Dan Bernstein (16:14)
Mardi Gras Escapades:
Digressions on New Orleans, Tulane University traditions, “Fat Tuesday fondler,” and a recurring joke about host alibis (30:19–34:19)
Bulls/NBA Trivia:
Quizzes on rookie scoring feats and players with the most consecutive 1,000-point seasons since 2000.
This episode offers a candid, layered look at a Bulls team in transition and the bigger context of player development in the NBA, peppered with Chicago-style wit and broader basketball reflections. Whether dissecting the future core or roasting online NBA drama, Bernstein and Jason deliver the kind of direct, entertaining analysis Bulls fans—and NBA obsessives—crave.
