B
Welcome to Dan Bernstein Unfiltered on 312 Sports. Hello, and I hope you're having a happy Thursday already. Dan Bernstein, mattabeticola with you. Here's what we're doing today. We are currently keeping an eye on the press conference where there are multiple law enforcement officials who are beginning to detail the arrests that are being made in a gambling investigation that apparently has spanned years and multiple agencies. What we know right now is that the head coach of the Portland Trailblazers, Chauncey Billups, has been arrested, taken into custody, Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier. Also that Rozier is going to be charged for rigging games and sharing information with gang gamblers, faking injuries, et cetera. There's a former NBA player, Damon Jones, being charged. Chauncey Billups involvement, I guess has to do with an illegal poker ring of some kind. And the announcement from the Justice Department, who I wish I could trust implicitly, but alas, I cannot at this point because it's being run by an apparatchik. But if everything we know is somehow on the up and up, they're saying it involves the major crime families that operate nationally. And those are all names he said. The Gambino and Lucchese and everybody else.
A
Is he from West Virginia? Who, Cash Patel?
B
I don't think so. Why?
A
Oh, I thought you said he was Appalachian.
B
No, he's an apparatchik. He's a party hack. Oh. Who was placed. He's a podcaster, not an.
A
Okay, I'm sorry. At least an Appalachian.
B
If you're gonna put a podcaster in control of the Justice Department, go for me. Yeah, put a Bata Cola in charge.
A
I mean, I just won't rest. I'm going to say the mob.
B
I was going to say that the Sicilian crime families will say they got their other guy there.
A
The old La Casa Nostra.
B
He said La Casa Nostra. It's Cosa Nostra. Right? It's our thing, not our house.
A
Here's what he said constantly.
B
Billups, Damon Jones and Terry Rozier were taken into custody today. Former current NBA players and coaches. What you don't know is that this is an illegal gambling operation and sports rigging operation that spanned the course of years. The FBI led a coordinated takedown across 11 states to arrest over 30 individuals today responsible for this case, which is very much ongoing. Not only did we crack into the fraud that these perpetrators committed on the grand stage of the NBA, but we Also entered and executed a system of justice against La Casa Nostra to. To include the Bonanno, Gambino, Genovese and Luchasi crime families. And you'll hear more about those details today.
A
I don't buy it.
B
The charges and the arrests that were taken down across this country range from wire fraud, money laundering, extortion, robbery, illegal gambling.
A
Here's the key part.
B
This FBI will be buggers for any perpetrator of crime across this country.
A
No room for any perpetrators of any crime across this country.
B
Wait a second here.
A
Except.
B
Hold on a second. Like.
A
Like La Casablanca.
B
It's La Casa Nostra.
A
But La Casablanca is okay.
B
La Casa Blanca. It's okay. The White House, well, half of it's gone. Except for the fact that half of the actual White House is now gone. I mean, that's wild, right? Nobody. Like you can't do that.
A
You see, the pictures are insane.
B
Half the White House is torn down.
A
Just because that's not okay. No, because, you know, it's not really his house, right?
B
You don't. You don't own it. We own it.
A
La Casablanca.
B
We own it. Yeah, but. Okay, so we're obviously going to keep an eye on that.
A
We'll keep an eye on the details.
B
It just started minutes ago.
A
Yeah, I'm still. I don't trust it.
B
I don't.
A
I don't think the Gambino family's involved. I don't buy any of it.
B
What about the Lucasi family?
A
Casey family? You know, the Bonino. No, I don't buy any.
B
Bongino. Is he involved?
A
I think it's all a setup because there ain't no rats.
B
Rats.
A
There's no rats.
B
Scabby to rat. He's a rat. And unfortunately, it takes the attention off of an incredible NBA story. Did you see Victor Wembanyama?
A
It's insane.
B
Did you see Vic. I'm saying not just the 40 points and the rebounds in the blocks. When you have 13 rebounds or 15 rebounds and. Okay, did you see him standing next to Anthony Davis? Making Anthony Davis look like Mugsy Bose.
A
He looks like a guard. It was insane. I saw the picture, and I'm like, who is that? Oh, my God. That's Anthony Davis. He looks like a child.
B
That's Anthony. Did you see Wemby block a shot without really jumping? Get the rebound.
A
Good skill to have.
B
Bring the ball up, go behind his back. Double crossover head. Hesi, step back. Three.
A
Wow. Seven five, right? Yeah, seven five.
B
You see him in warmups, making 15 threes in a row. Like Come on, man. But that's all right.
A
That's not fair.
B
We'll see how this all settles out. And by the end of the day, how the U.S. justice Department has brought to heel all of the major national US Crime families.
A
Yeah, I mean, they're going after la casa Nostra. I would suggest la Casa Blanca.
B
I think it'd be a might. Look, look up, look to your right, look to your left. And if you really want to hold yourself to that grandiose statement of justice.
A
Or don't look left, don't look right across the street, please.
B
That'd be awesome, too. He's got those crazy eyes, Cash.
A
He does. Yeah, he's something, man. He's got this very intense.
B
All the time, sniffling. And when you can see, like, Bobby Portis. When you can see the. The sclera above and below, like the whites of the eyes are always showing.
A
It's intense.
B
What do they call it?
A
Something going on.
B
Manson lamps. You ever heard that term?
A
No, I like that term.
B
Yeah, Manson lamps.
A
I like that.
B
He's got the old Manson lamps going. So there's other NBA to talk about. There's Bulls, Pistons, and we're going to. Because what a fun little Bulls night there. Dare I say their defense is actually better without Kobe white. I mean, they need Kobe White because there were some. Especially late in the game when nobody wanted to create. And they're passing the ball around and pass going, you do it. You do something. So that guy. If they play 10 times, I think the Pistons win nine. I think that was the one.
A
That was the one game they get the win. I never heard that phrase before. The Manson lamps. But, yeah, that's the thing. Except if you Google Mason lamps, you get Mason jar lamps. That's not what you want.
B
No, not Mason lamps.
A
That's what I did at first.
B
Manson lamps.
A
Also a guy I went to college with. Mason lamps. Really? Yeah. He was a good guy. Good.
B
Was he on the college radio station with you?
A
Yes. Cool.
B
So we're going to get into all of that. Let's also make sure we know what's going on, first of all, with the Bears because Lamar Jackson did practice yesterday.
A
They limited.
B
Made a big deal of him jogging out to the field. He was limited in practice. And now the games begin because now they're going to figure out what he can do, what he can't, what the options are. And I would just say watch the line. It's so funny that. And everything is going to seem ironic in the wake of the first news story.
A
Today.
B
But watch the line because the fact that it came out at six and a half led me to believe that Vegas or the. I say Vegas, but the odds makers believe that Lamar is playing because if he's not, that number is going to flip. So that is the, I think the best indicator that we're going to get on Lamar's availability. Lamar Jackson's availability is by watching that number.
A
Yeah, for sure.
B
That's all. That's all I know. Also yesterday we had talked and I forgot which show we talked about. We're going to address it here today because we have a guest coming up today on Forward Progress about the NFL Coach of the year odds. And according to my bookie and the reason it's always great to go to my bookie because my bookie is our presenting partner of this very show. We are brought to you in partnership with my bookie. They currently have Shane Steichen as +129.
A
He's with the Colts, if you didn't know that.
B
So it's like 1.3 to 1 as coach of the year, then Mike Vrabel, Kyle Shanahan, Dan Campbell, Mike McDonald, Sean McVeigh.
A
Mike McDonald with Seattle, by the way, if you didn't know that.
B
Correct. Not Mike McDaniel.
A
No, Mike McDonald.
B
There's a lot of. Yeah. McVeigh.
A
And it's an MacDonald. It's a MacDonald.
B
It's a Mac. It's a MacDonald.
A
Yeah. Like a burger.
B
And Ben Johnson is 20 to 1. If the bears win this game, that's going to take a massive jump. Because I also believe, and I have been, this has been explained to me by people who know more than I do, that coach of the year odds are often a proxy for team odds, that sometimes the value, if you think a team is going to overachieve, you show that in the way that you bet coach of the year because sometimes you get more for your dollar in doing that. Yep. Which I now understand. So we're taking a close look at that. And we'll know more from Bears practice today about the important ones, Tyreek Stevenson and Cole Comet, because that's going to affect the deployment of Kyler Gordon and especially in a game against Derek Henry. You don't want to use Kyler Gordon on the outside if you can have his presence and his multifaceted skill set closer to the box on the inside. Yeah.
A
And for the Bears, Roshan Johnson, Cole Comet, DJ Moore, Tyreek Stevenson, DeAndre Swift, did not practice yesterday. Grady, Jared, Braxton Jones, Cairo, Nashan Wright, were Limited and then Austin and then your guy.
B
Which guy?
A
Who's your guy?
B
Oh, amen. Obong Bemiga limit.
A
They're full practice for.
B
Why is he going to be my guy? What are you Mike north again?
A
Yeah, because I. I'm not gonna.
B
I don't say. I'm not gonna butcher his name. I can'.
A
Yes.
B
I'm a man of another time. I don't say the Nigerian names.
A
I know when I'm an idiot. I'm not going to butcher it. So there's out of respect for that young man, you can be. He can be your guy.
B
Okay.
A
But full practice for. For Austin Booker. I think that's again correct for Austin. Has he played at all? No. Okay.
B
No. And especially with Dominique Robinson playing the way he played in the last game. I think he gave you what the Austin Booker expectation was gonna be about as far as snap count and outside speed and.
A
Yeah, but maybe a couple snaps, some longer distances, maybe. You know, give it a shot.
B
Latest from this news conference. Joe Nacella, the U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of New York, said defendants exploited insider information to bet on NBA games. They use non public information, including when specific players would be sitting out future games or when they would pull themselves out early for purported injuries or illnesses. Misusing information obtained through longstanding friendships they had with NBA players and coaches. In at least one instance, they threatened a current player, Jontay Porter, because of his preexisting gambling bets. See, that was really the fear. That was the fear of being strong armed because you got in deep as a gambler. And they said, we're going to break your legs or hurt your family if you don't.
A
Don't do this for us.
B
Yeah, okay.
A
That's why you remember, he who gambles lives in shambles.
B
Bonanno, Gambino, Genovese and Lucchese.
A
Yeah. Show me the receipts. I don't buy any of it. I think it's all a witch hunt. Trying to get after the Italian Americans of this country.
B
None of those are Chicago based, correct?
A
Those are all New York.
B
Those are all New York families. Yeah. Okay. Just making sure they want us to know what the involvement is here of our fair city. But that's the latest. If we hear more as we record, we'll obviously let you know. But this is going to be a major news story, let alone sports story. Let me say this too. I really. I knew I was going to miss Jason Goff on CHSN doing Bulls pregame halftime, post game. I knew I was going to miss Him. I didn't realize how much because I don't. I don't really think I need to. I can add this now to the pre games and post games. I don't need to watch. And generally I don't like that. That was one of the last ones I did. That was one of the last pregame, postgame, you know, wraparounds, whatever you want to call it that I watched. I loved the vibe. I loved the subtext. There was always a wink, always an understanding, a little subversiveness and the way it was, you know, that Mark Brady would direct it. There was. There was kind of an insider feeling there. And apparently some powers that be in the Bulls didn't want that. And they just want the usual. And they, they. It's fine. Cam Smith is professional, nice guy, and he is by any objective measure, good at what he does. It's just not my personal taste compared. Compared to Jason Goff doing that.
A
Yeah, it's not a. It's not a personal relationship thing either. It's just the quality of the content. Yeah, that's really what it comes down to.
B
There was, There was a sizzle, there was a spark. There was, There was something going on there. Yeah. Where, where, where he. Jason Goff on that show held a lot of it together in a different way. It just feels like. Like they, they, they pulled out one of the engines. They, they, they. It's just not the same. It's. It's mid. It's just, it's just people saying stuff.
A
Now you know what it feels like? It feels like something you can catch on.
B
Marquee.
A
Yeah, because that, that to me just feels like people saying things.
B
It's just mid. It's.
A
And it's like here, it's. Everything is scripted. I think it's a pretty common thing. But here's what scripted out segments are. Here's what we do, here's what we say, let's go. Let's go accomplish this task. Here's a pregame or a postgame show, and it's void of any personal thoughts, experiences, interaction that you, you don't have.
B
Or subtext or a winking understanding of where everything fits and just a larger awareness. It's lobotomized. And it doesn't mean any individual involved is dumb. The coverage itself is just. Everybody wants pap. And if this is what sells, if this is what you want. And look, I'll say it. I'll say I do think this applies across the board in some more sports programming that I'm hearing In general, it's mid. It's just basic. It's basic. It's like, what can we say that is just moves the meters for another day and gets through the segment and doesn't bother anybody, doesn't make anybody mad, doesn't risk anything. But here's people angry on Twitter.
A
But what did. But like, golf didn't do anything to make people angry.
B
No, no, no, no, I.
A
Know you didn't, but I just mean, I mean, but that's, that's what I'm saying. It's. There's a, there's a lack of personality that you don't have in a lot of pre and post game stuff locally.
B
I, I miss. I, I really like that especially. You know what it was really, it really came through was when they do their little hit with, with Adam Amin, with Adam and Stacy, like, I always felt something a little different going on, like, maybe it'll give it time. Here's the thing. I trust Mark Brady. I think Mark Brady is one of the most underrated sports media people in the market. I don't think people realize how significant Mark Brady is and what he brings and the influence that he has over the way that those, those games feel and look and sound and what people say and when they say it. He's a really important producer. Director. He's producer. And it just, I just think that they took out, they pulled out an element of that that made it special. Yeah, it's not special anymore.
A
As someone who didn't consume Bulls games but would watch pregame show because of Jay, that's the only reason I watched it, because of Jason. And then, you know, Hank, who would like to watch pregame because the one time that I texted Jason during halftime and then he called us on FaceTime to say hi to Hank. Hank couldn't believe it that the guy on TV is on dad's phone. So then, you know, Hank, Hank got into it and then would watch it. But I would like to watch the pregame without even watching the game because I just wanted to see my guy. That was it. So, you know, I mean, I've committed to watching more games. I watched some last night. I watched about half of the game because. Yeah, no, it was fun. And plus, I like Detroit. I like Kate Cunningham. You know, seeing him in person last year in New York and beating the Knicks on homecoming night, when I got to laugh at John Starks in his face almost from, you know, the third row, it was good. It was fun to watch. And I didn't know they were Playing Detroit till yesterday. And I'm like, oh cool. I can watch, watch a couple things. I can watch my guy Cade get to watch the Bulls and you know, and then it was like a big huge lead and I'm like, well that, you know, don't worry about that. It's the NBA. I go back in the second half and they were up by four and I'm like, well there you go. That's the NBA.
B
20 point leads. It's nothing. And it was, it was a big.
A
Night, but it's a win.
B
It was a big night.
A
That's all it matters.
B
Javante Green.
A
Oh, I'm sure I heard it in the radio.
B
Devonte Green got in there.
A
He comes in the game of course.
B
Jason text me. He's like, I'm getting a Javante Green Pistons jersey.
A
Yep. Yeah, I had to, had to go grab Jackie from his basketball practice and as I'm driving I got the game on the radio and I heard Javante Green. I immediately thought of your kid. I'm like, all right.
B
The world's number one Javante Green fan. There is, there are, there are people in Javante Green's house that don't like.
A
That are less of a fan as much as he does.
B
All five Javantes out there. I would like to welcome a new sponsor to Dan Bernstein Unfiltered because every athlete knows the difference between good enough to sometimes win and game changing. Championship teams don't win by showing up unprepared. And the same applies to your game in the bedroom. Rougiette Ready is the three in one ED treatment that actually prepares you for the moment. If you're waiting for Sunday to start betting, you're missing half the fun and half the money. So don't wait. College football's already cooking. There's upsets, there's blowouts, there's wild coverage. There's the Heisman race. I'm not allowed to touch that. Obviously. I can't even really talk about it. I shouldn't. I mean, I can't talk about my preferences. I can talk about the players who I'm watching and, you know, who they are. But it's interesting because we've had some people rise and fall very quickly. My bookie lets you hit it all. Game lines, player props, more. Everything you need before the pros even kick off. So when Sunday rolls around, you are already up because my bookie's got it all under one roof. Win big on the NFL super contest and survivor pools. If it doesn't hit, you get it right back. When you opt in using the bet back bonus token. Once again, that code. Dbu. So it is just those three letters for Dan Bernstein. Unfiltered. My bookie is where betters win together. Bragging's good, but cashing in is better.
A
My guy has cracked the top five in the Heisman race.
B
Diego Pavia. Yes.
A
He leads the SEC in touchdowns. The last two this season and last season from the start of 2024. I know he's leading the SEC in touchdowns. Don't. Don't give me the whole, oh, I know that's the SEC he's leading in touchdowns.
B
It's hard for me from fucking Vanderbilt. It's hard for me to divorce my scout's eye with my. My understanding that he's a college football player.
A
Yes. You've got to eliminate the fact that he's not. It's not. Don't evaluate him as an N. NFL quarterback because he can't evaluate him as a. He can throw. Evaluate him as a college quarterback.
B
I know. It's. Everything's fine except the rowing part.
A
I mean, it's Dan, you got to look at the percentages of high school kids that go to Division one, the percentages of Division one kids that go to the NFL. Keep it where it's at. Evaluate him for where he's at. He's leading the SEC in touchdowns since the start of last season.
B
Right. But wasn't. Isn't like the greatest college quarterback of all time, Timmy Chang?
A
I thought it was Tim Tebow.
B
Yeah, I voted for him. Yeah, he's a good college player.
A
Yeah, but you voted for him as hottest quarterback in the. In the.
B
No, I voted for him as my personal lord and savior. Okay, different vote.
A
All right.
B
Absolutely. And meanwhile, the guy in the Duracell commercial I thought was Tim Tebow.
A
No, that's the pink bunny, isn't it? No, that's Energizer.
B
I think it's a Duracell commercial. There's a guy who looks exactly like Tim Tebow, but it's not Tim Tebow. It's not Tim Tebow.
A
Was he soft spoken and gentle and kind?
B
They found a Tim Tebow who can act. He looks exactly like Tim Tebow.
A
I look it up. I'm not buying that either.
B
No, look up. I thought I said, wow, Tim Tebow. Speaking of which.
A
Oh, but so. But maybe it is. He just didn't rack bow himself. Hey, your Heisman Trophy winning quarterback, Tim Tebow.
B
Know who can act, by the way? A former Al Pacino. Not anymore.
A
Well, no, but a.
B
A former great professional athlete who is apparently taking the acting thing relatively seriously and I think could be good at it.
A
Former professional athlete who could be good at acting.
B
Who?
A
I'm like former professional athlete who could be good at acting. I'm going to get mad when you say the name.
B
And he's good.
A
Who is it? Because it's going to bother me.
B
He's good looking, he's funny, and he's really trying.
A
John Smoltz.
B
Blake Griffin.
A
Oh, Blake Griffin.
B
Have you seen him in the Wayfair commercials?
A
Yeah. Yes.
B
Yeah, keep an eye on him. Keep an eye on him down the road.
A
All right. It's not what I. That's not what I thought you were gonna go with.
B
Where'd you think I was gonna go with?
A
I know. I thought it was something that had a little more substantial role to it than a Wayfair commercial.
B
Just keeping. I mean, I think Travis.
A
I'm pretty sure I could do a Wayfair commercial.
B
I think Travis Kelce is funny, but I'm sure you could do a Wayfair Commercial. I'm saying, when you look at some of the little things, the subtle things, I guarantee you Blake Griffin is taking acting classes and is working on it.
A
Has his Wayfair commercials encourage. Has there been a call to action for you in watching his acting that you've gone out and purchased something on Wayfair?
B
I have a $250 Wayfair gift card that I got as a former Wayfair endorser.
A
Okay, well, that's. You're not answering the question. Your Honor, can I treat this witness as hostile? So the question was, can I.
B
Your honor, can I treat the counselor.
A
As hostile, as an idiot and treat.
B
Him as a penis? Can I do that? Is that written in the law somewhere? Yes, you may treat the witness and the counselor as a penis.
A
Just don't treat his penis.
B
That's different.
A
That's crossing a line that's down the hall. We can't do that.
B
You're badgering the witness long. If you're not witnessing the badger. I don't even know what that means.
A
So has. Has he. As he. Have you purchased something off Wayfair because of his acting?
B
Not directly, I don't think.
A
All right, well, then he's not that good.
B
Fine. Okay. Jalen Duran is a punk ass.
A
Yeah, you were. You were sharing some of the things he was doing.
B
Punk ass.
A
So did he. Was he called for a flagrant? Was he really?
B
Yes. He stuck his damn feet out there and sprained. Modest ankle. Modest. Mozealous is okay. And then he's grabbing people later. He doesn't have to do that. Jalen Duran is big and strong and fasting and jump. And also, I'm going to renew something I said last year at this time.
A
All right?
B
Okay.
A
All right.
B
The Bulls. And when Nicola Vuchevic is on the floor, the Bulls are going to lead the league in getting dunked on out of the drop defense and pick and roll when they're in drop. He is such a lob target because he's slow and can't jump.
A
Yeah.
B
Just get used to it.
A
He can shoot well from the outside.
B
Yeah. And he can rebound. Fine. But ultimately.
A
But the defense thing is an issue.
B
So slow. He's so. He had a great game yesterday. Great game. But, man, if he can play well enough that they could move him for something, that's the goal. If he. If he can keep playing like this so at the deadline, you can flip him, great. And he's been a terrific Bull. He's put up huge numbers. He's been awesome. But my God, he is. He is going to lead the league in balls on head in just getting dick whipped by guys coming by him who are jumping 10ft above his head. I'm exaggerating, but that's a problem because they have. There's no rim protection on the Bulls. It was supposed to be Zach Collins. They don't have any rim protect. Did you watch the interior defense of the pistol?
A
What's his time frame for returning?
B
A minimum of a month. Okay, probably more. I would say eight weeks. But they don't have, you know, Jalen Smith tries, but he doesn't hold his position as well and he tends to foul. They have no rim protection. So good luck.
A
Good luck with that.
B
But he's just get used to Vuch in their drop coverage being exploited with lobs.
A
So they're going to lead the league in dunks allowed. They'll be up there when he's on.
B
The floor, if he can only on the floor when Vuch is on the floor. If you want to run high pick and roll against the Bulls with an athletic rim running big, you're going to dunk's going to be there, which is.
A
Generally most other bigs in the league.
B
Well, a lot of teams at least have a guy that specializes in that.
A
All right. The Duracell commercial, I. I can kind of see where you think that was Tim Tebow.
B
I know it's not.
A
Yeah, I know you know it's not. But kind of similar. But I mean his massive biceps in the really tight pharmacist jacket that maybe at hockey Lee used to own. I don't know. I can kind of see it.
B
Okay.
A
Yeah, a little bit. A little bit. Well, you know, here's what we're going to start doing on the show. We're going to start posting on social media just pictures of men because we started yesterday with your Sammy Hagar guy. Have you missed that?
B
Ronnie Putnam for the win under a drive.
A
Is that his name?
B
Ronnie Putnam? Yeah.
A
All right, so you can go to. If you're on TikTok.
B
We figured it out. We put it out.
A
Yeah. Yeah, I got to figure it out. We're there at 312Sports shy at chi x the same thing. Or Twitter x312 Instagram 31 2Sports. Chicago Facebook 31 2Sports. We'll start posting like the hot guy of the day. And we'll start with this Tim Tebow look ALIKE.
B
DENVER See Unfiltered Hot Guy of the Day.
A
100% do.
B
Did you ever get a response on Ben Johnson looking Like Kristen Bell.
A
Not from the two people I want a response from.
B
Oh, okay. So if you just. If you look at. I'm telling you, look at pictures I.
A
Posted one side by side.
B
Yeah, but that one didn't look that.
A
I know, but you can see the similarities. The chins the same. The eyes are the same shape.
B
If you use a picture of her in a baseball hat, it would really show.
A
All right, I'll. If I can get some paparazzi to snap one for me, I'll.
B
I don't cash for it. I don't know if she has the Carthage Firebirds hat that you've been sporting. Yeah, well, it is pretty sweet, though.
A
It is a nice cat. Really good hat. Here's the thing. So, you know, Natalie went there and we went to visit the campus not too long ago.
B
She just go there? Wasn't she a. A D scholarship athlete there?
A
Yeah, she was.
B
It's D1, right?
A
She.
B
No, they weren't.
A
Yeah, no, they're.
B
They're.
A
They're not D1.
B
They're D. I don't even know if.
A
They'Re a D thing. Are they? They might be. She'll tell me.
B
Yeah, I know they're not D1.
A
She'll tell. Yeah, they're not D1.
B
Okay.
A
But she. Yeah. Was a volleyball player there. So we went to visit the campus, went the bookstore, and I tried the hat on. I have a hard time getting hats because it's not about the circumference. It's the depth.
B
Yes. Okay, I know.
A
And then. So they're all really short. And so when I put them on, there's like two inches of space between, like, my. The top, my ear, and the bottom of the hat. Yeah.
B
You look like a late 70s baseball player.
A
Yeah.
B
So I need it.
A
I need one with a deep. A deep crown. And this is. It's a Nike one. And it's something. And now I Google this brand of Nike or the type, and I can't.
B
Find anymore the model of the hat.
A
Yes. That's what I want.
B
It's what I need.
A
I need something with a deep crown. I'm a king with a deep crowned head.
B
That's what it is. Heavy lies the head that wears the.
A
Crown that the king bears on his skull.
B
It says Carthage Firebirds.
A
No. Yeah. And you know. You know what? They used to be. They had a different name. Carthage. Oh. Probably bad. Yeah. I mean, it was similar to what the Washington thing was. Really? Yeah. But it wasn't skins. It was men.
B
Like St. John's yes.
A
Like St. John's correct. Okay, what do they know?
B
St. John's the red storm.
A
That sounds like a team. It sounds like a team.
B
There's something I should know that.
A
Because, you know, my guy was the coach there.
B
Louis Carneseca. No. Also indicted today.
A
Oh, no, he wasn't. Not every Italian was indicted today.
B
There's a. There's more comments there, I think, that are coming out of that. By the way, this is NY Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch.
A
The conference is over. Now, the live press conference.
B
These operatives included capos and multiple soldiers from the Bonanno, Gambino, Lucchese and Genovese crime families. Bringing four of the five families together and four out of five dentists surveyed.
A
Also.
B
Yes. Also arrested.
A
Four out of five dentists were arrested today. Bringing Federal gambling probe. If you're a dentist, watch out.
B
Bringing four of the five families together in a single indictment is extraordinarily rare. It reflects how deep and how far this investigation reach and the skill and persistence it took to get here. A deliberate, technologically sophisticated operation designed to carry out their crimes. Which family wasn't involved? Who's the. Who's the current fifth New York family?
A
Oh, boy. I should know this off top of my head.
B
Sollozzo, Corleone. Oh, this is Bonanno, Gambino, Lucchese and Genovese. I wonder which. With the fifth, it was like.
A
Who was arrested?
B
Bonanno, Gambino, Lucchese, Genovese.
A
Oh, the Colombo.
B
So what. What are they, chopped liver?
A
Well, you know, I mean, the families, they would have all side, you know, side deals going on with each other.
B
And different families doing coverages and maybe they weren't hedging.
A
Maybe they don't like basketball.
B
That could be. They just don't like basketball.
A
Yeah, there could be a particular reason why, but you never know. You know, maybe they brought it to them and someone was like, man, NBA, not our thing.
B
Used to be better.
A
That's right.
B
That's what they said, right? They don't play defense.
A
Back when they. They brought all these jump shots in, it got real bad. They like. They were the Colombo family, big family of the. The set shot.
B
They love that.
A
They did not go for the jump and the granny shots at the free throw line. Once they put nets in the basket, it wasn't just a peach basket. They were done with that shit.
B

A
All right, I found our guy. The DBU hot guy of the day. The scientist from the Duracell commercial.
B
It's not Tim Tebow.
A
His name is Lathe Walshlager.
B
No, it's not.
A
It is. He's actually, he played college football at The University of Delaware.
B
Okay.
A
Completed some preseason stuff with the Cardinals.
B
Oh, so he is. He is actually a football player.
A
Undrafted defensive end. He played for a season with the Jacksonville Sharks of the Arena Football League. He's made guest appearances on the Rookie. Not my bookie, but the rookie McGruber. He was on something called All American, the me and you show. And it says on. He did stunts on the film paternal for HBO. And he was in the 17th season of worst Cooks in America. I don't think he was Joe Paterno, though.
B
I can't hear anything you say. I wish I had done more, but I did that.
A
Take the dick out of your ear. 17 seasons of worst Cooks in America on Food Network. So he's a 33 year old former NFL player and now turned actor. Lathe walshlager.
B
Okay.
A
Maybe your crush of the day. That's what it'll be. It'll be DBU's crush of the day.
B
Well, that other guy, Ronnie Putnam, is not my crush.
A
I didn't list him as crush of the day. I just listed him as here's the guy.
B
What?
A
What? Yeah, but this will be it for you. This will be DBU's first crush of the day. Lathe Walsh Legger.
B
Lathe Walsh Legger.
A
Yes.
B
Got. Okay. All right.
A
I could retroactively make the Megalodon camera guy your crush of the day yesterday if you want.
B
Jared LeGrandi.
A
Yes.
B
He was not.
A
Not arrested today, though.
B
You don't know that.
A
Well, no, no, he was not. Oh, I don't know that. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say he was not.
B
Okay.
A
I'm concerned to leave the building now. If they're looking for all Italians, I'm telling you, one of the most persecuted groups in America, the white male Italian American man over 40.
B
Well, I think you got a concern today.
A
I do have a great concern.
B
I think you might want to lay low and maybe go to a safe house.
A
I know where a few are.
B
I'm sure you do. I'm sure you've got the insider track of where to go. You got to call the sensei and make sure that you get through the. You're jumping over the roof and you fall into a tree and get tased.
A
That was such a great. Such a great scene. Such a great scene. I'm still. I'm still disappointed that we forgot to use him.
B
I know.
A
In the top 10 saints.
B
Sensei. Saint. What was the last?
A
I don't remember what it was, but.
B
Yeah, he should have been. Have you have you been drinking? I had a few small beers.
A
I love that. He always has the modelos.
B
But he said a few small beers.
A
Yeah, a few small beers. All right, so Lathe walshlager.
B
Okay, great.
A
Mystery solved.
B
If you watched the Bulls game last night.
A
I keep derailing you from your Bulls talk. I'm sorry?
B
If you watch the Bulls game, they ran a commercial.
A
Oh yeah. I'm curious.
B
They ran a commercial and it said pinstripes are back. And it's for their new. To promote their new jersey.
A
Like an alternate jersey.
B
Alternate jersey with pinstripes. And it starred Dennis Rodman. You may have noticed something odd about it. Dennis Rodman, currently, for whatever reason, speaks so unintelligibly.
A
Oh, really?
B
It was subtitled.
A
No, it was not. It was. No. They had like deliberately on the commercial itself.
B
Uh huh. They had to subtitle Dennis Rodman speaking English and I don't know what happened. Did he have an event of some kind?
A
Not that I'm aware of, no.
B
Is he suffering from an aphasia? Like, I don't want to. I don't want to make fun of somebody who's ailing, but he's not a football player. He doesn't have cte. Did he suffer a stroke?
A
Yeah, not that I'm aware of, but I know he was. He was utilized by the Bulls in helping does. I've heard, helping design the. The new jerseys. But I like what's so different about the design. It's just. It's just.
B
But they. So I'd love to know, like they.
A
Were made popular when he was playing. So black with the red.
B
I'd love to know how this got produced. Because what it seems to me was, hey, we'll get Dennis Rodman and he'll do this and we'll pay him and it'll be a thing. And then when they got to the editing room, somebody actually delivered. The tough news is we can't understand a word he's saying. And I had my back to the TV and I couldn't understand. I didn't know, is he okay? And I know he's got his lip piercings and everything else. And if your lip piercings are preventing you from being understandable, take them out when you do a commercial. Because I didn't know if it was that. But they had to subtitle Dennis Rodman. So I guess I hope he's okay. I don't know, it was just really weird.
A
Yeah. I can't find anything.
B
I know that like there was earlier.
A
There was reports earlier this year that he had died from autoerotic asphyxiation.
B
Oh, like the In Excess guy, But he. Michael Hutchins.
A
Yeah.
B
No.
A
So he's, you know. Then he posted on Facebook, I'm alive and well.
B
I. Not that I don't enjoy auto erotic asphyxiation, but I'm alive and well. Yeah.
A
So I can't. He says, I'm surprised I'm still here because a lot of people thought I'd be dead at 40, 45, 50, 55. I turned 60. I'm like, wow, I'm still here. So. Yeah, no, I haven't. Yeah. I don't think that anything happened to him.
B
Okay. It was very strange because before they. Somebody said, hey, we gotta. We gotta subtitle this. Like he's speaking Swedish because it was like the chef. It was unintelligible.
A
Oh, wow, that's too bad.
B
Like, I know my parents watch a lot of TV shows. Like, they subtitle the ones with thick accents, like whether it's Peaky Blinders or what's the other one they watch about the. Was it Dairy Girls? The people are really hard to. The Irish. The Derry accent. D E R R Y. Really hard to understand. There were two.
A
Heard of that.
B
Two guys that I saw this year when. Early in the spring when I was fishing. There were two guys from Derry and nice guys. I just couldn't understand them. And I usually have nobody. I was in Ireland.
A
Oh, dare. Okay. Oh, D E R R. Yeah, not D A I R Y. Like they just milk cows and that's the show. No, it was like, why are your parents watching that?
B
No, but like, I. There are some shows where there are very thick accents. Yeah, there's some, you know, thick Australian accents that. But I'd never seen it for. I'd never seen Dennis Rodman.
A
Yeah, it's hard when people aren't speaking American, Dan. It's hard to understand them.
B
It was plenty American. I just. It was just weird. So I just wanted to make sure. I don't. I don't what I don't want to have happen. So. Hey, Bernstein was making fun of Dennis Rodman, but they didn't really do. You didn't know that Dennis Rodman had a straw?
A
Yeah, I don't. I can't find anything.
B
Okay.
A
On the webs.
B
Okay. I just. I want to make sure that I didn't miss something. And I don't want to make light of their. The need to subtitle his speech if he has some kind of aphasia.
A
Well, you got it out There. And, yeah, I'm not as good as finding medical information as I am finding hot guys on the Internet.
B
Well, that's just your algorithm now.
A
I hope so. That'll be great. I hope so, because my phone's within voice shot, so I'm sure it's hearing everything I'm saying now about hot guys, so.
B
Oh, boy.
A
Yeah. So, yeah, I can't find anything on Dennis Rodman. Hopefully he's fine, but that's. That's unfortunate. You got to subtitle it, apparently. Looking up hot guys?
B
No, apparently an FBI official now says the alleged gambling ring in the NBA involves the Toronto Rangers.
A
The basketball team. You tell me, because there's the Texas Rangers, the Toronto Raptors.
B
Like I say, I wish I could trust the Justice Department.
A
Are they making up teams to arrest?
B
Coming after the Toronto Rangers, we've arrested.
A
John Smith, the head coach of the Toronto Rangers.
B
Guys with fake mustaches on. It's a me.
A
That's Mario.
B
Mario.
A
Mario and Luigi arrested by Luigi Wario. Yeah. There's a new. Oh, thank you for bringing him up. So who's the guy on the. The Mariners that jumped into the ball? Naylor.
B
Yeah, Josh Naylor.
A
Natalie was like, I don't hate Josh Naylor. So I misspoke when I said that the other day. She just can't look at him without seeing Wario. He looks like Wario.
B
Wario, yes, he's Wario.
A
Wario.
B
Wario.
A
But they. They look just alike. That's what she said. I misspoke. She hated him. I knew there was something about him.
B
She also hates South. Who needs basketball?
A
No, that's you. Oh, okay. My bad.
B
Yeah. Wario looks like Josh Naylor.
A
Yes, they do. They look alike.
B
No, they don't.
A
Yes, they do.
B
Well, the body a little.
A
See, they look alike a little bit in the body. So, yeah, Cash Patel. Apparently, there's a new. He has a Press conference at 10:30 scheduled where he has arrested Mario and Luigi. Okay, so as part of the NBA gambling room and all the members of.
B
The Toronto Rangers, Rangers and Johnny Redker's family, who will be buried on Thursday, they've also arrested Skip and Chip Carey, whose father is the legendary Pappy.
A
Is the legendary Harry, who died.
B
Who died in his someone's sleep. And they've arrested all of those people and they've taken them away, send them to sea cot.
A
And because Basketball prison, and because it's.
B
Almost Halloween, Comedy Prison, they've also sent the people to comedy prison.
A
Oh, the FCC's here.
B
They won't let Me be.
A
Let me be Me tv? No, it's fcp. The Federal Comedy Police. Fcp.
B
Yeah, but they're very secretive.
A
Yeah, well, the FCC can't touch us, but the FCP can't.
B
We're unfiltered now. Damn it.
A
And because it's close to Halloween, he's also going after Cash Patel is going after Freddy Krueger for the murders he commits while people sleep. I think that's when he. I think that's when Chip and Skip and Harry all died from Freddy Krueger. In their sleep. They died in their sleep. They were murdered by Freddy Krueger. Now Cash Patel is out looking for him.
B
Yep. And Mario?
A
Well, he found Mario. He's already in. What about Alligator Alcatraz? They're gonna get Yoshi.
B
No, they shut down Alligator Alcatraz.
A
And that's what you think.
B
Ah, I see. They're gonna put him in the big beautiful ballroom after they get done tearing down the White House.
A
That's what he's building is a new prison?
B
Yep. They're gonna use it for that? Maybe. Cause it's gonna be empty. Lord, can I. Before we get done, I know you have some people that we have to make time for as well, don't you, our good friends at Lucy?
A
Oh, I do, yes. I was like, what friends do I have?
B
What is he talking about.
A
Dumbass? Yeah, don't finish that sentence. Who are my friends again? Dan, Lucy, Lucy Co. That's Lucy Co. You're saying Matt? What is Lucy?

I have a thank you, and this is a kind of a general thank you. I think his thank you is for you, Matt.
A
Okay.
B
I think it's for you. The DBU Forward progress OWC 312 sports listener this happened. And I don't have any problem doing this because, you know, I've been very straightforward about my mental health journey, for lack of a better term. I know people don't like that word, but that's what it is. I don't want to say battle, because it's not a battle. I'm not fighting against anything. It's just you learn and you move through stuff. And something came up in my therapy session yesterday that was really kind of cool in a weird way, because sometimes a therapist helps you see things and clarify things because it's their job. And you talk about how you feel about stuff, and you talk about what runs through your mind. And if you've got a good relationship with your therapist, they're able to say, well, have you thought about it this way? Or here's how that sounds to me. And let's talk about it from this perspective. And that's sort of the point of therapy. Sometimes it's not about checking boxes or flow charting. The things just kind of happen if you're doing it right. And if you're working with a really good therapist, as I'm lucky enough to do, and we ask questions about how you're spending your time, how do you feel? What are you doing? Because now that you're doing less phishing, what are you doing more of? Because we always talked about how important hiking, fishing, being around nature, being near water, and how important that was to me is to me. So I said, you know what? I found myself actually choosing to watch games in a way that I hadn't in a while. And he said, what do you mean? I said, well, I'm flipping channels and there was some random college football game on and the score's tied. I'll leave it. I'll say, oh, this might be fun. Let's just see what happens here. Or maybe, you know, said, oh, the NBA's coming. And I'm. And I watched the whole night, NBA basketball. And maybe I might have. I might have not watched way more postseason baseball than I have been plenty of college football. And he said, well, when did this kind of start? When did you notice this? Because. Is this only because of your, you know, there's. The fishing time is dwindling? I said, no. Said, probably started middle of the summer, end of the summer. And he said, so was it concurrent with the time that you started getting serious about creating three one, two sports? And I said, yeah, maybe, kinda. And he said, has it increased or decreased in the couple of months that you actually started the daily grind of the podcast? And I said, it's probably increased. And he said, I know this is gonna sound weird, but maybe you just like sports. He said, that's what it sounds like to me. I said, that sounds like somebody who likes watching sports, and you're doing it because you like it. Which doesn't sound like some sort of breakthrough or revelation, but as we talked about it, I thought, you know, that's true, and that's really interesting. He said, well, he said, when is the last time you could say for sure that you felt re. Energized and renewed and felt good about watching sports just because. Just. Just because you like them? And I said, well, it's probably when Jason was younger and I could see it again through someone else's eyes. And he had questions and questions and questions, endless questions, and we could sit and talk about it for years. And as he, you know, now he's beyond me when it comes to some of these things, which is great. You always want to see your kids, you know, just sort of blow past you in some of these things. Not everything, but in a lot of stuff. His ability to filter multiple channels of information at the same time. These kids, brains, this generation, their brains are wired to uptake information differently, completely differently, and it's okay. It's good. I'm sure our parents said the same thing about us in television and radio and all that, but he's right. And I didn't really figure it out, but it's true. Like everything this has been, everything this whole experience has been, and being able to build a new audience that also has connections to my entire career and just having a smile on my face, driving in here every day and sitting here and doing this, Doing this with you. When I say you, I'm looking at Matty, but I'm looking at you, too, because you're here. And the feedback that we've gotten, whether the emailers and anecdotally the people that I've seen. Thank you. I've had a lot of people say, hey, you sound happier. And it comes through. And I guess I am. I don't try to assess my happiness every single day because that's bad for you too. You don't want to worry about, is this good? Do I feel good? Am I happy? I'm not. You just kind of live and try to make everything make sense and I guess it's been really good. So I hope this is where we are. I hope that you're enjoying everything. Love the feedback. We had feedback Friday, coming tomorrow. But it was just an interesting thing to hear from somebody else. From your therapist saying, this is a pretty. It sounds complicated and it sounds like a big deal, but you've been doing this for 30 years professionally. This has been your job since you're 25 years old. And to actually now, at this point now, to then say, to realize that that's what it feels again, to really enjoy it, really like it, and go out of my way to say, I'll watch this game, I'll watch that game and not feel like, oh, God, I would love to do something else, or I'd love to watch another game or it's a big deal.
A
Yeah, no, it's very different to watch out of enjoyment versus obligation. They're consumed differently and they make you feel different.
B
And even when you think one is the other, sometimes you don't even know. Even Bears games, when I get mad, there's still. There's a different. I don't know, I get excited for our post games I love. I can't wait to do some of that stuff.
A
Well, you're. You're evolving and growing as a person.
B
Is that what it is? Okay.
A
That's all it is.
B
All right.
A
And that's good. That's a very good thing. We all should strive for that. And it's just a little better today than you were yesterday. And then make your goal to be a little better tomorrow than you are today.
B
And even if you're not, that's okay because everyone.
A
No one's perfect.
B
It's non linear. Yeah, it's non linear. And that's why you check in. That's why a therapist should be your mirror. The therapist should be able to say, you sound this way or you look this way or it's my. That's what they do. And they have well honed professional instincts. When you build that relationship, to be able to make observations like that and when it's reflected back to you it comes with a much very different meaning than necessarily when it's your kids observing something, your spouse observing something. But yeah, it's also Therapy works, man. It works. It works. If you put in the time and you give of yourself and you make yourself vulnerable in therapy, it really, really works. This is not a specific endorsement of anything. It's just advice from me today on a Thursday. And it's a thank you for me. So thank you.
