I do not want the Blackhawks to resign Patrick Kane. I thought about it a lot and this really isn't that hard a call. There are multiple reasons why I would prefer that Patrick Kane stay something other than a Chicago Blackhawk for the remainder of his career. And it's my hope that the Hawks take into consideration their fans that are willing to do a little bit more thinking than some of the others. And maybe there is a. I don't know if it's a silent majority. I wouldn't be that presumptuous. I certainly think it's not. It's perhaps a minority that is able to hold more than one thought in their head. And I don't want Patrick Kane back. I'm happy he's gone. I'm happy that entire era of Blackhawks hockey is over because of what we know. Not what we think what we know. And what we know is that very first championship, the very first one, the title that started, everything was going on while there was a conscious decision made by the team's brass and the team's coaching staff to cover up the sexual abuse of Blackhawks players by Brad Aldrich, their coach. And that Brad Aldrich was subsequently based on after all of the whispers and all the concerns that Brad Aldrich was moved out of the organization, that Joel Quennville wrote a recommendation letter for him, Brad Aldrich ended up coaching at a high school in Michigan where he ended up assaulting a 16 year old boy. It was because of that that Kyle beach came forward and I'm not going to rehash every aspect of the horrors that were going on in the Blackhawks organization and that were covered up by choice. There was a meeting of the we know this is all in the Gentleman Block Report. I'm not gonna go back and say, well what do you know, what's this? This is all in the record, what actually did happen and if Anybody can look back on all the Hawks glory without thinking about that and without understanding the active cover up and the decision that was made and think how nefarious this is. It wasn't just a decision to not talk about what happened with Brad Aldrich and Kyle beach and John Doe. Let's not forget John Doe, the other Blackhawk for whom a lawsuit was settled, with whom another lawsuit was settled in 2025. Just last year, the Blackhawks cut a huge check to another player, John Doe. You had Kyle beach and John Doe. Kyle beach had the courage and desire to put his name on it because it was Brad Aldrich's assault of a boy in Michigan. After the Hawks got him the job there, the Hawks vouched for him. The Hawks said, hire him. This predator, this monster was hired by a high school where he abused the 16 year old. When that became public is when Kyle beach came forward and we found out what the Blackhawks did in the name of winning that championship. And we can quibble with everything, everything else, what they knew, when they knew it. We, we know what the players knew because we knew that Kyle beach was made fun of in practice, harassed, bullied in practice. I don't know if the same thing was done to John Doe, but we know who was there. That's why I've always called out Jonathan Toews as the Captain. Captain. Serious, Mr. Captain. Mr. Leader. Who could have said, hey, we got a problem here that's bigger than hockey. And yet we know the foundation on which, the desire to cover it all up, to bury everything and to allow another person at least. And that's the one that we know about. That's one where Aldrich got caught. And the other thing we know is these predators, they don't just pick one. We know for every one that they find, there are multiple others, just like we found with Jerry Sandusky. And any time that there's a case like this, anytime you want to go through any find one of the Big Ten things, whether it was Strauss or Nassar or all these names that we know, the guy in Michigan, all these names we know about these. The predators in the coaching ranks that are there, that are always going to be there, where the young people are, wherever there's young people, there's going to be predators. And the Hawks knew they had one in their midst and they chose to send him elsewhere, to pray elsewhere and to cover it all up. It was ordered covered up in the name of protecting all of their glory. And everything that happened, that feeling, that knowledge, that understanding hasn't left me. And it's made it really, really, really difficult for me to care about Blackhawks hockey. Now. That's me. I'm just telling you how I feel because it's my name on the pod. And if you can get over it and you don't care, who cares? Fine. You don't. I'm allowed to. Then form a judgment about you. Oh, and I will. I don't care. Okay, I do. I do care. And I care about everything that we went through with young Patrick Kane. All the stuff reported and a lot of the stuff unreported. Everything went on in Madison and all that. Oh, boys will be boys. Boys. Oh, well, it's just, you know, rough and tumble that suck, you know, Someone that I know who loves hockey is also aware enough, who has told me, someone I know and respect has said to me and has heard me say some stuff about hockey and has reached out and has always said, hey, man, understand this, that culturally, hockey will always let you down. This sport will always disappoint you. Culturally, it's not going anywhere. I actually think that Danny Wirtz and Jamie Faulkner, ever since the death of Rocky Wirtz, have understood that there needed to be a culture change and there needed to be a shift and there needed to be some kind of clean break. I know you can make a lot of money with nostalgia. Hell, the Cubs are, you know, doing what they did, and I don't know how they're going to handle all of. All the nostalgia going forward, but it's tainted forever. All of it. It's not the same knowing what we know. None of it is the same knowing what we know. You can't unknow things. I can forget things because I'm old, but you can't selectively unknow things. And this is just one of those cases where the entire schema for me around Gaynor, great player. No, you don't need to do this. This would be an own goal. You don't need this. You don't need to bring him back. You don't need to remind anybody that is capable of processing news and facts. We know what happened. We know how ugly and shameful it was. And do you remember and that. That awful performance by Rocky Wirtz? I remember where I was when I was watching it. When they held the town hall, they tried. They tried to clear the air. They tried to say, ask us anything. Reporters, fans, they want it all solved. And then. And then Rocky threw a fit. He threw a tantrum. They don't know the organization. You're not part of the organization. You don't have the organization. The whole thing. Remember that it was Phil Thompson and Mark Lazarus and all the people that have been reporting the facts, the news. And Rocky went off on everybody because he thought if they had done a modicum of contrition of awareness, of understanding and the shame is they did more. They commissioned the Jenner and Block study. I give the Blackhawks a lot of credit, especially I think Danny Wirtz understood that. I know Jamie Faulkner knew that. I know it. That there was an idea to move on, to start something different. And yeah, the way that they ended up with Foley and Olchek and the whole thing, it was not. It could have been handled better. There are some things I'm sure everybody involved would probably want back. But all of that evinced an understanding that there had to be a line drawn and say this is. We're. There's going to be a new transparency. There's going to be a new. Understand there's going to be awareness. Like that's the whole organ that was organizational. Usually you say, oh, when we talk about such things in cover ups and usually it's without that meeting. They actually had a cover up meeting like come on. And it was ferreted out. We know who was in the room. We know what was said. People had come forward to say, you've got a child predator in your midst. You have somebody who is preying on your own. Your own young players. Not just children, also other young men. But they didn't want to do anything because it would interrupt their glory. That didn't sit well with me. And time hasn't healed that wound. Oh yeah, that was a long time ago. Who cares? Let's bring back Patrick Kane and tell him we love. Okay, you can. And it's not Patrick Kane's fault, but he did a lot of gross stuff too. That is that whole young hockey players sowing their wild oats and they live their lives out there. He spent a lot of time making women his playground for a long time. Okay, I'm not trying to blame him. I'm not trying to blame. What did Keener do, man? What do you mean? I'm not. I just think he's kind of gross. I think he always was. I think that whole deal was gross. I thought the way it was handled was all of it. And it wasn't just the one collapsed rape case with those. The allegations in Buffalo. It was the overall behavior stuff that we all. We all know stuff, reported stuff unreported it's just a reminder that's unnecessary. You don't need to do it. Why do it? That's part of the argument. That's the biggest part to me. The biggest part to me is just, oh, move on, move on. Flush that. Flush it all out, flush it all out. And you want to play really good hockey and go win games on your own terms and we can talk about other things, time and the place. I think eventually you can, you can get the cartoon Native American head off your, off your jersey sweater. You can do all that. But that's another time for that. Just don't. Just don't. There's other options. And Connor Bedard wants him back. So what? I don't care. I don't care. And they're saying Cain is deciding between the Hawks and Sabers. Let him pick the Sabers. Take your name out of it. We don't need it. We don't need it here. It just, it's, it's, it's a, it's a, it's a, a little bit of a twist of the knife too. I wonder how anybody involved who was victimized by Brad Aldrich feels about this desire to reach back, this desire. Oh, let's bring that back. Those are the glory years. The glory years were in large part built on a cover up of abuse of violent crime that the Blackhawks chose. They chose to cover up violent crime and then go out of their way with their imprimatur, with their, their letterhead, their stationary, that big glossy Blackhawks racist logo. They were able to just say hey or hire this man. And a high school did well, Joel Quennville says we should hire him. And they did. And then he abused a 16 year old boy. That's just a fact. And maybe it doesn't bother you. It bothers me that all of that, all of that Black Hawks, the glory years were built on the COVID up of violent crime. So there's any number of wings you can bring back to pair with Conor Bedard, any number of them. I would find someone else. That would be my preference. And that you can just draw a line and move on. The other reason is, and this is way less important, this city's history of the second go round with hall of Fame level players. And I'm not talking about like the Kenny Williams White Sox stuff. I'm not talking about like bringing guys after they're, they're, they can't play anymore. All that stuff with, you know, Ken Griffey Jr. And Andrew Jones and Manny and The Alomars. The list goes on and on. I go back to 86 with Steve Carlton and George Foster when the White Sox were doing it back then. And just bring. Oh, I remember that guy. Oh, that's a. And when you get that weird baseball card, it was like my Bobby Orr Blackhawks hockey cards. Like, Bobby Orr was on the. I guess he was. So he only had one leg, but. Okay, I forgot that part of. Doesn't work. I remember when the Bulls brought back Artis Gilmore.

They got Artis Gilmore back. And there was a Sun Times columnist that artists didn't like all that much because the Sun Times columnist saw artists try to run and referred to him as rigor ar artists. I wonder who that would have been. Remember the Bulls brought back Scotty Pippen. How'd that go for you? How'd. How was that? And I covered these. I was in these locker rooms when. When Ryan Sandberg decided he would unretire and he came back to the Cubs, he was fine. But remember that? Or would you care to not remember the time when he came back and it was just kind of weird? Oh, he's back. Okay. And then my favorite one was when the Bears re signed Richard Dent because he'd kind of been around house. All we saw him there is that Richard Dent. They might re sign Richard Dent and he couldn't play. Couldn't play anymore. Bringing back these older hall of Fame people for like a last encore bow to the audience. It reminds me of Pet Sematary where they come back, but they come back weird. They come back off. You take these great, great, great players, great athletes, and you put them in the tribal forest burial ground. And then they come back and they're. They're kind of. They look like themselves, but they're not really themselves. And everybody just kind of left with it in general. It's a bad idea. And in this case for the Blackhawks, I think it's a. It's. As far as I'm concerned. I'd be real happy if they didn't kowtow to that part of their fandom. And that's the other part. Patrick Kane's fandom. Some of the worst people in the history of Chicago sports. The hardcore Patrick Kane fans, during everything that went on with him. Every next story with him. Pick one. Pick one of the. One of the stories. Whatever it was, whatever photos were surfaced or whoever was following around wherever he was drinking and throwing up and asking for the Stanley cup to be brought to him at 4 in the morning. Talk to Those guys talk to the, talk to the cup keepers sometime about what that experience was like getting the texts at 4 in the morning. Where's my cup? Oh, you're standing on a bar with your pants off. Okay, here's the cup. Great. Anytime. Dealing with the hardcore Patrick Kane fans. Just dealing with the dregs of Chicago sports fandom over. However these last. Whatever it was. It's been 20 years, almost 20 years of dealing with this. It has brought out the bottom of the barrel of everything you think is the worst aspect of toxic sports fandom. That'll tell you the bigger a Patrick Kane fan somebody was and not a kid like somebody, an aware, functioning adult, the bigger the Patrick Kane fan, the worse the person. That's how that had been. So I'm not interested in rekindling any of that or trying to selectively reach back because then they're going through all the highlights again. Oh, who can forget that this was this. Well, you don't have to forget it, but remembering it kind of. It's just not the same. It doesn't. Remembering any of the glory stuff, understanding what had to be done, the kind of thing that would indulge the wackiest conspiracy theorist out there. Are you saying there was a conspiracy to cover up sexual abuse? Are you really saying that there was a wide ranging conspiracy that involved the most powerful people in the Blackhawks organization sitting in a room and deciding that they were going to cover up a sexual assailant on their coaching staff? Yes, because that's what happened and we know it. And it's all on the record. That's exactly what happened. And stuff that calls it to mind, that's avoidable, easily avoidable can be avoided. That's all. And if you want them back, stop it bursting. No, I'm not. Not as long as my name is on this thing. And I'm here to tell you what I think. Every time I see a headline that says he could be coming back, could be coming back, it never works. And there are in this particular case, there are so many more good reasons to not do it than to do it. I just. I think about Kyle Beach. I think about his courage. Have you seen this video of a fan at Wrigley hitting another fan in the back of the head because he didn't stand for the national anthem? I want to find out who that guy is, the guy that hit the other person. Some old fat guy that hit a younger guy that was sitting for look, you know, college age. I didn't know how old the guy was, but he was yelling at him for not standing during the anthem and then actually hit him in the back of the head. Now, I don't think he hurt him. He hit me like my mother used to hit me in the back there. That little two finger, like, knock it off, idiot. And you can't do that anymore. I didn't do that to my kids. I learned you don't hit your kids because it is very likely to result in bad development, bad behavior, bad lessons, bad everything. Again, there's settled science and facts that come out of that as well. But a stranger, you actually hit somebody, that guy should never be in Wrigley Field again. That guy should never walk in Wrigley Field again. You don't do that. I'm not saying you gotta press charges and say that. It's, you know, technically it can be. It could be a battery. And he tells him, get up. He's yelling get up. At a younger man who was looking at him during the anthem performance by the Jersey girls at Sunday's game at Wrigley Field between the Cubs and Twins. The man leaned down to whisper something in his ear before smacking him in the back of the Head. The young man then stood up as onlookers turned to catch sight of what was going on, appearing surprised. And the older man said, thank you. Thank you so much, young man.

Yeah, it's a variation of the Joe Sheehan rule that, that's all a national, especially a national broadcast. But in general, when it comes to broadcasting sports, ideally you make people smarter and a lot of broadcasts do.

But at the bare minimum, don't make

them, at the bare minimum, don't make people dumber. Don't say things that are wrong. Don't have some agenda that you'd prefer watching the game that you played because you happen to like that game better and shit all over the game in front of you. John Smoltz, I think I learned something fascinating on Sunday night from Roger Clemens. You know, I don't like Roger Clemens very much.

He was really good on that NBC broadcast and it might be in large part because Jason Benetti did a good job of like little, little, little tiny follow ups. What do you mean by that? Oh, so like he was, he was kind of did a really good job eliciting some of these things. But Roger Clemens was noting that the relief pitcher that was in the game, he said, he goes, oh, he preloads that pitch. And I said, ooh, wait, what? He goes, oh, yeah. I go, splitter's preloaded. So then the director and the camera person close up of the ball in the hand of the pitcher on the back hip and he's reaching for that splitter grip. And you could see him getting the splitter grip and then putting the ball in the glove. And Clemens broke everything down. And he said, you see how he's got his finger on the seam? Because look, he's got that finger on the seam there. Now watch as he puts the ball in his glove. He said, the reason he preloads the splitter and I get it, I've heard about this, but I hadn't seen it quite shown this way as a television production real time. And Clement said he wants to preload the most difficult pitch to grip because if he tries to load the splitter in his glove, he's going to tip it. It's easy. He said, once you have that, your most difficult pitch to grip loaded before you have your hand in your glove and you can come off of it because his finger's on the seam and without looking, that is giving him his, his anchor point to switch off of the splitter to any other pitch because clearly what had been happening. And you see this with the guys who do the flippy glove before they pitch. There's. You learn that you've been tipping. There was a problem in the past, I want to say Jose Contreras of the White Sox ran into some problems with that splitter where you could see the dig where you're trying to get those fingers widened out over the ball and you'd see the front of the glove squeeze a little bit. So you preload that pitch and then the glove isn't going to move when you come off of it to a breaking ball or you come off of it to a change. I just thought that was so cool. There it was, and they showed it to us and he talked through it. So I good job, Roger Clemens. Good job and that. And it's a really tough booth just because you have the guys. There's so many people that you got cece Sabathia down there and he's weighing in. Even though we know they're sitting elsewhere. If you've got the center field camera or you're. We don't. We picture the booth from Naked Gun with Jim Palmer and Dr. Joyce Brothers and Dick Vital and Dick Enberg, and they're just going down the line like that. We don't know that. They're scattered all over the ballpark, so they don't feel like they're all there. They feel like they're. Let's. This guy's weighing in from over here. This guy's weighing in from over here. But it can be really cluttered when you have a guy like Jason Benetti, when you have somebody you can trust who to handle all that, it works. And it did. So I just write this down. I said something nice about Roger Clemens because I thought he did a really good job. I learned something about baseball and I saw it described in real time. So not only did he not make people dumber, he made people smarter. I would love to have had a longer explanation of pitch tipping and anti pitch tipping moves and just how at that level of Major League Baseball, now they're using AI. Did you see this? The MLB had to say, you get the laptops out. Because it was one thing when the Astros were on the bleeding edge and the Astros were sequencing things and stealing signs with it. Like, that was when. But now they're like, okay, too easy now. Too easy to figure out the secret to feed that into a computer and realize what the signs are. It doesn't mean it's not going on. I'm sure it is still going on, but I would have loved to have had them. Ryan Dempster, remember he could talk about it. Ryan Dempster did. He had to do full flippy glove because they realized people were catching him. Grabbing pitch grips.

And it was like, okay, well if I'm going to do this and another. I remember there was a high school coach that I remember said always, always, always dig in your glove, then always get your splitter grip first in your glove and then come off of it.

See, but that's why the key to any good broadcast is that play by play guy, that guy that is not only there to. Yeah. To tell, you know, to help the viewers along with the game but to also utilize the strengths of the people with them.

And to understand that and pick up on it and push it and know where to go and know when to go and then you follow that up with a quality production team that uses what we can't see.

Well, the producer can remember the producers in the ear, the play by play guy. Yeah. So I would say it's, it is, it's on the play by play guy. It's on the producer and it's in that relationship and being able to say, hey, ask him what he means by that. You can do that.

And then I remember that when I was watching other broadcasts. But if you ever had the opportunity, and I did, to hear that segment while having the TV on and they would say, like, Arnie Harris is coming up. If you're watching the game, put the game on, do this. And it was worth it because you would hear what he would say to Harry and what he'd say to Steve and what. And how that would all work. And Harry needed to be led around after a while. So Arnie was really kind of the voice. Like, hey, hey, Harry, what do you. What do you. What do you think? Hey, what a pretty girl. Boy, oh, boy. And you can do a lot of that. A really good producer can make sure you're pulling out of the broadcast, which you need to pull out of it. I always talk about this, like the stuff that Mark Brady does with the Bulls. He's essentially part of the conversation during a game. You just don't hear him. And they'll reference him every once in a while, but he's always there and they're joking around. There's that. I would love to have a headset and hear all the off mic stuff that goes on during a Bull's game. And now I'm sad about Stacey again. That's going to be a topic this week too. When we talk about. Now that we're hearing some names that are coming out to replace Stacy King. That's something I definitely want to go with because I think that merits a larger discussion. Bryson Dechambeau was accused of threatening to call US President Donald Trump during a dispute with senior RNA officials Friday after the American golfer was handed a two shot penalty at the British Open. DeChambeau was handed a two stroke penalty for improving the line of his swing by standing on long grass behind his ball on Royal Burkdale's fifth hole. During the second round, the 32 year old tried to argue his case. Then at the tournament scoring area, RNA CEO Mark Darbun joined the discussion. It was at that time DeChambeau reportedly said he would phone Trump if the matter wasn't resolved in his favor. Let that sink in. Trump is friendly with a number of the world's top players, including DeChambeau and Tiger and others. Right. The two have played together on numerous occasions. DeChambeau fell out of second after the penalty. He ended up finishing tied for 14th. Trump intervened in the World cup reaching out to FIFA president Johnny Infantino after US striker Foleran Balogun was issued a red card in the Americans round a 32 victory. The Red card was revoked and Balogun played in the team's last 16 loss to Belgium. He actually did it. You're standing in a different country threatening the head of a private organization like that. Is the. It's one thing to say. I'm gonna talk to your manager. Can I speak with your supervisor? Is this the Karen move of all time? And it's not even really a Karen move because it's not like somebody's trying to police somebody else. It's more like cuz he screwed up. So his go to move his last gasp to try to in his temper tantrum, his toddler temper tantrum. I want Captain Crunch. It's not time for that now. That's a sometimes food. It's not an everyday food. I want, I want, I want, I want it. I'm calling Donald Trump and he's gonna tell you like that's your daddy that you actually did. He did that. I'm not making this up. Bryson.
