Dan Bernstein
right, we're just gonna do this. We've asked Cody Delmendo, our in house Cubs expert. And not just a Cubs expert, but a veteran stalwart of Cubs Twitter. Nobody in this city is more qualified to talk about news in Cubs Twitter like our own Cody Delmendo. So we've got all three of us here on Dan Bernstein Unfiltered because
Matt
let
Dan Bernstein
me just off the top, just say I love this tweet. I love this story. I adore everything about this. I have not stopped laughing since last night and I've not stopped the the stuff going on like in the various text chats, all the side stuff, all the underground stuff, everything that's going on last night. Bruce Levine, veteran MLB reporter in the
Cody Delmendo
middle of the Home Run Derby, in
Dan Bernstein
the middle of the Home Run Derby where everybody is paying, no one has anything else to do other than pay attention, half pay attention to what's on their television while they've got their phone in their hand. This is a massive social media baseball moment. He decides to apparently accidentally tweet a text intended for a Cubs coach or manager. Is that fair?
Cody Delmendo
I think. I mean, he covers the Cubs and White Sox. So in his tweet he says, you and other coaches have been the stars of the team being 12 games over.500.
Dan Bernstein
So that's Cubs, that's Cubs.
Cody Delmendo
That like it would be absolutely wild if he was texting another coach for another team that was over.
Dan Bernstein
That was 12 games. I haven't Even looked to see if anybody even fits that. So we, we know that. We know. 7:46pm and was it taken down?
Cody Delmendo
He did eventually take it down.
Dan Bernstein
Oh, he did take it down.
Matt
But it's been, it's been saved so many times.
Cody Delmendo
It was up for more than 20 minutes.
Dan Bernstein
Okay. So. And I would, I saw this, thankfully. And let me also say to all the 312 people who immediately screenshotted this, like, are you gonna talk about this? Are you gonna. Hell yes, I'm gonna talk about it. It's awesome. Why wouldn't I talk about it? It's fantastic. Let me read it. Okay. It's at, at mlb, Bruce Levine, you and the other coaches have been the stars of the team, being 12 games over.500. Let's hope hope is capitalized. For some reason, Twinkle D and twinkle Dumb don't sell you guys out. Like the 2025. Enjoy the letter T. The family time, pal.
Cody Delmendo
It's, it's so on brand for Bruce because he's became known on like social media or just Cub's Twitter of a guy who always has a lot of typos in his tweets. Sometimes he doesn't even have a space after he ends a sentence and goes right into another sentence.
Dan Bernstein
It isn't just that.
Cody Delmendo
It's.
Dan Bernstein
Every once in a while he. He gave us sex. Fowler. Right. For Dexter Fowler. And then, and then there was this tweet that I Remember on at 11:01am of August 23, 2020, he tweeted a picture. Tweeted the tweet was Ian Miller recalled by Cubs. And there's a picture of D. Donald Trump sitting in a park sipping coffee behind a card table with a sign on it. Like, this is.
Cody Delmendo
That's a meme, right?
Dan Bernstein
Yeah, but it's got like a Charlie Kirk thing and it says Joe Biden is just Hillary Clinton with a smaller dick. Change my mind.
Matt
Then he later apologized for the picture, said he has no agenda for political.
Cody Delmendo
Did he apologize? I never saw that.
Matt
Yeah, there was.
Dan Bernstein
I saw that. I just love this. I, I, man, I. And then our buddy, our buddy Bill on Capitol Hill, on Blue sky, he said, Bruce Levine is like a Haley's comet of dank social media posts. Every huge sky. Yeah. So you've been doing some detective work here, Cody, you have a list.
Cody Delmendo
I came up with a list of coaches. And I don't, I don't know, but
Dan Bernstein
this is my theory. This may have been intended.
Cody Delmendo
Yes.
Dan Bernstein
This was a text that somehow I was copied or pasted or just he didn't realize that he was tweeting instead
Cody Delmendo
of texting, which to me is the biggest thing that makes it funny. Like, how do you not know if you're on Twitter or if you're on the text app of whatever phone you're on? I.
Matt
Are you able to. On. On Twitter x. To do, like, a voice thing where it'll. It'll take your voice and then make that your. Your.
Dan Bernstein
Not that I know of.
Cody Delmendo
Not that I know of.
Matt
I'm trying to think how you confuse.
Cody Delmendo
You can.
Matt
That would be the only way you
Cody Delmendo
can send voice messages.
Matt
Right.
Cody Delmendo
But not even really messages. They're more just posts. Like. Like, if I wanted to do a voice. A voice thing on Twitter, that I think there's the capability to just like, if something related to the Cubs I wanted to talk about, but I didn't want to do a video, there's a voice thing you can do.
Dan Bernstein
All right, give me your list. I want to. I want to know the. This is Our Cubs Twitter expert has. Has determined that the likely intended recipient comes from a group that would include the following.
Cody Delmendo
So I originally thought it was just Craig Counsel, but after hours of thinking about this, I came up with John Maley number.
Jenny V
Okay.
Cody Delmendo
Because he's been at the organization, like, multiple times and just been. Been around for a long time. Which leads into number two, Tommy Hodavi, who's also been with the Cubs organization for at least. I swear, at least 10 years now. I put Craig council number three just because I. He talks to Craig Counsel every day. There was a video that came out in spring training. I don't remember who took the video. I want to say it was Taylor McGregor of Craig Council giving Bruce Levine a birthday card at spring training. And Bruce has been on the beat for decades.
Dan Bernstein
Like, he's.
Cody Delmendo
Yes. So that's why Credit Council is number three for me. And then number four, Garrett Lloyd. He's a bullpen. Bullpen catcher. He's. He's also been with the organization for what seems like forever. And then I put Dustin Kelly number five. I don't feel confident about it, but based off the tweet, it's kind of like, well, Dustin Kelly's the hitting coach. The offense has been carrying this team, like, I don't know, maybe. Maybe that's it.
Dan Bernstein
But part of it has to be the enjoy the family time part.
Cody Delmendo
Yeah, that's true, too.
Dan Bernstein
Because is anybody with kids or kids it playing baseball or. I'm just.
Cody Delmendo
Craig has kids. He has a kid who plays at Northwestern.
Matt
Yeah.
Cody Delmendo
And that's the season's over.
Matt
But that's the biggest thing for me is the. Is the family time. Because to me you're not saying that to someone with older. Older kids. Like Melee has kids in his 20s, kids that are in their 20s. How do he has. Has younger kids. And you know, you. You look at it and what. What the pitching staff has been able to survive and do through all the injuries. I kind of lean that direction. But then who's. So my immediate thought was Tweedle or Twinkle. Sorry. Twinkle.
Dan Bernstein
We'll get to that part.
Matt
I don't want to say it correctly.
Dan Bernstein
Just. You just don't.
Matt
I'm just saying I didn't mean to say it correctly. So my immediate thought was that Twinkle D and Twinkle Dumb were the front office guys of Hoyer and Hawkins.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah.
Matt
Or if it's a coach and not the manager that this was meant for. That is. Can Twinkle D and Twinkle Dumb be Hoyer and Council? Is there. Is there a swipe at Council there.
Cody Delmendo
That'd be so like it be such a plot twist if Craig Counsel is part of the Twinkle D or Twinkle Dumb.
Matt
But I'm sure it's. It's probably aimed at Hoyer and Hawkins. I would. I would assume.
Cody Delmendo
I would. I would. I think Twinkle D and Twinkle Dumb. If it's not Jed Hoyer and. Or and Carter Hawkins, then.
Dan Bernstein
But just.
Cody Delmendo
It just. What a wild text.
Matt
Yeah.
Cody Delmendo
So we're never gonna know. But yeah, I mean as far as the coaches, maybe top. Maybe Tommy Hodavi is. Is the one. You have a good point on that one, Matt. But again, this, this. I still can't comprehend how it was sent as a tweet and not a text to whoever.
Dan Bernstein
I I also we. It's a. It's a good thing that the personal comment was something like, you know, enjoy the family time instead of, hey, I heard you're meeting Diana Rossini at a resort. Enjoy the time with Diana Rossini. You know, so it was something other than that. That. It absolutely could have been. It could have been worse. But it's Tweedledee and Tweedledum, not twinkledee and Twinkledum. So when we were talking about this last night in our text thread, like one of somebody said, how long until we find out he was. They. They claim he was hacked or he claims he was hacked. And I'm thinking that the odds of being hacked by somebody that would tweet identically to a perfect, obvious Bruce Levine tweet.
Matt
Yeah.
Dan Bernstein
And would hack Bruce Levine. Like, no way. I don't care what software you want to run this through and whatever. AI Would you look at tendencies and look at all previous tweets and say they would spit out a like 99.999% possibility that this actually came from this user? Yeah, it's. Come on.
Cody Delmendo
Yeah. No one would believe it if, if, if Bruce were to tweet today, you know, like an apology post or something like that. No one would believe that. Or not an apology post, but like
Dan Bernstein
saying that he was Explanation.
Cody Delmendo
Yeah, some. Yeah. If, if he did something where he said he was hacked.
Matt
No more.
Cody Delmendo
No, no one would believe it. Not even anyone that he actually works with.
Dan Bernstein
Let me also just, I, I should mention too, Bruce has always been great to me ever since I started as a reporter when I was 25 years old and he was the old timer on the beat then he was, you know, the guy and whatever it was. I, I, I like Bruce same and I've got, he's a, he's a good dude and I've got no issues with him and no ill will. It is just for this to, for this to happen the way it did. It just, it's not supposed to. It's, it's not that you can't do that, man.
Progressive Trucking Announcer
Yeah.
Dan Bernstein
And why, why Twinkle D and Twinkle Dumb?
Matt
So my thought on that was, I mean, I thought about this too much. Like, what if that was like some kind of like inside joke with this guy and like that was what they refer to these two people as. Because maybe it was said. It was said by mistake one time and they had a laugh out it. So they just continue using Twinkle D and Twinkle Dumb. But I'm sure the correct answer is that he just made it.
Dan Bernstein
Yes, I think he, I think he meant, I think the most reasonable explanation is that he meant Tweedledee and Tweedledum.
Matt
Which is also why I asked about being able to voice over things for, for Twitter. Because the fact that maybe, maybe Twitter, maybe the voice thing heard it wrong and put twinkle and he didn't read it. And also why Hope maybe was capitalized because that's a person's name and if you're doing a voice activation thing, it would automatically capitalize the word hope.
Dan Bernstein
And I have been following Matthew Trueblood of Northside Baseball.
Matt
Yeah.
Dan Bernstein
So first Matthew True Blood in all caps on blue sky said, oh my God, Bruce Levine just accidentally tweeted a text to a Cubs coach. So then he said, tweets, been up for 25 minutes. How is he not taking it down? Update tweet down. And then he Added, if Jed Hoyer and Carter Hawkins aren't wearing obvious shirts that say Twinkle D and Twinkle Dumb when they get to Wrigley on Friday, they're cowards.
Cody Delmendo
Yes. So that, that's what I'm, I, I, I tweeted this last night. Like, they should, they, like, Bruce should lean into it a little bit. Like, just like kind of admit, you know, I messed up and then like, for, I don't think that anyone's going to take any offense to this, like,
Dan Bernstein
or keep doing it. Keep sending tweets that look like they should be texts to people that look like insider stuff.
Matt
I'm sure that account has already started. Someone started the Bruce Levias text account.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah, but you should, you can really do that if you really want to be the center of attention for a while and you could just keep putting out. Well, wait a second. Is this all part of some kind of long form bit and then you get it sponsored and everybody makes money?
Matt
Yeah, well, I'm, you know, I tell you, he's, he's lucky it wasn't aimed at a White Sox front office person, because I'm, I know that they would, they would hold a grudge to it. Oh, yeah, they certainly would. I mean, when I got reprimanded for wearing a Cubs T shirt one day during a recording of Hit and Run at the ballpark and was, you know, the next day had an email and a conversation with the PD about it. You can't wear a, you know, Cubs T shirt to Sox park. Oh, you gotta be kidding me. So he's lucky it's Cubs thing.
Dan Bernstein
Because I just wanted to celebrate it. I just want to say this is awesome. And it sent me down a Tweedledum and Tweedledee rabbit hole. And I'm learning about John Byram's epigram that came before 1871's through the looking Glass by Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland. And that Tweedledee and Tweedledum in Alice in Wonderland actually came from a reference to, to a nursery rhyme. Tweedledum and Tweedledee agreed to have a battle for Tweedledum said Tweedledee had spoiled his nice new rattle. Just then flew down a monstrous crow as black as a tar barrel, which frightened both the heroes, so they quite forgot their quarrel. Now, that doesn't rhyme. That nursery rhyme sucks because quarrel does not rhyme with Beryl. So however that got started, the that I learned. That's bad. And then that was picked up by Lewis Carroll. That does rhyme with barrel and was used in through the Looking Glass. So I I knew them because I saw the movie when I was a kid and I picture them with their little beanies on and their fat bellies and I don't know who Twinkle De and Twinkle Dumb are, but they exist now.
Matt
They have.
Dan Bernstein
They have been spoken into existence. And here we are. I don't know that Cubs Twitter will ever be the same.
Cody Delmendo
Oh, people are treating it like one of the, like, greatest moments on Cubs Twitter ever. It's, it's, it's definitely a tweet that I will never forget. I had to screenshot it quickly. That way I could have it forever.
Dan Bernstein
I don't know if it's as good as Joe Biden is just Hillary Clinton with a bigger dude Dick
Cody Delmendo
Sex. Fowler sex.
Matt
Pretty good.
Dan Bernstein
That's. But hey, man, add it to the list.
Matt
And, and well, it's, it's going viral now, which is great because if you, if you were to Google, has Twinkle D and Twinkle Dumb been used before?
Dan Bernstein
And just Google that and, and what comes up? Is there a special. Does it, does it go to, like a special Google doodle already?
Matt
The specific mix up is Twinkle D and Twinkle Dumb gained viral attention in the Chicago sports scene on July 13, 2026.
Dan Bernstein
That is. That, that's in the AI mode.
Matt
Yes.
Cody Delmendo
Yeah.
Dan Bernstein
Oh, my God. Okay, well, let's, let's. This is what, what I want this entire segment to be is a celebration of a great moment in Chicago Cubs Twitter because that's.
Cody Delmendo
That's what it is.
Dan Bernstein
That's really special.
Cody Delmendo
And I just, I think that, I really do think that it would just be even better if, like, Bruce, like, leaned into it. Like, if they, if he likes, if someone, like, joked with him on air, wherever he's at today.
Dan Bernstein
But just why, why put that in writing? I mean, really.
Cody Delmendo
Well, yeah, again, I don't understand the
Dan Bernstein
whole texting or even if you're even texting it.
Matt
Fair.
Dan Bernstein
Even even choosing sides within the organization or if you, if you want, as a reporter, if you. Maybe you've got a side in this or maybe you have your allies against other people, but nobody wants to think of you as the kind of person that's going to be talking about one aspect or like, hey, your boss sucks, or somebody said this about you, somebody said that about you. Like the. There are actual ramifications to this. I mean, let's just. We are. Yeah. We can have a lot of fun with it. And I, believe me, I am. But there are serious ramifications to, to the reporter and a trust level.
Cody Delmendo
Oh, yeah.
Dan Bernstein
That anybody then. Now anybody who texts with a reporter would. It's reasonable that that person would think twice.
Matt
Yeah.
Dan Bernstein
But say, look, what are you. Are you just going to accidentally put this out to the world?
Matt
Yeah. And it's very fortunate for whoever he was texting. He didn't include that individual's name. Just, you know, out of habit, like, hey, so. And so.
Dan Bernstein
And now we drag other people's names into it because we're speculating.
Cody Delmendo
Yeah. Yeah. So, yeah, it was all speculation. I did not. I don't know anything. It was all speculation.
Dan Bernstein
But that's. But it's not unreasonable when something like this is. Is public and injected into the bloodstream and we're thinking, whoa, whoa, whoa. And now I do think your relationships with your various sources, speaking as somebody who does reporting on occasion, whose work bleeds into the reporting side, and I'm trying to think, what's the closest you've come to a similar mistake? I have. You know, I've been on text and have. Might have, like, tried put something in the search bar, and they realize, oh, wait, no, no. But, like, a whole text being tweeted is really hard to do.
Cody Delmendo
Yeah. Yeah. I just. That. That, to me, is the biggest thing that I just don't understand at all, so.
Dan Bernstein
Well, all right. Yeah, I guess. Updates to come as events warrant. Cody, thanks for being a part of Dan Bernstein unfiltered. This was fun. Appreciated. Dan Bernstein
And while we are talking about sports wagering, I think we absolutely should talk about what is happening with this issue between Bryce Harper and a lawsuit involving a failed Gambler and FanDuel. Because it's a fascinating story that I think right now is not quite being reported as it should. And I'm going to tell you why. The story in a nutshell is that a cameo video was purchased by FanDuel by a representative of FanDuel a what is known as a. What do they call them, personal hosts or concierge ambassadors that are assigned to the whales. What's a whale? A whale is when a casino a Sports book, whatever the. The gambling house is, finds a big better and often a big loser that somebody who is able to give them a lot of money and they cultivate these relationships. This shouldn't come as any surprise. And essentially that's what the lawsuit is about. If you want to get into. And there are questions of where the law is as far as predatory business practices. I don't know where the law is on all this stuff. And the lawsuit at this point is sort of secondary, I think, to the reporting. It should not come as any surprise when a gambling business is cultivating a money maker. This has gone on forever. Forever. And I want to say I watched a real sports 15 or 20 years ago where Brian Gumbel and Mary Carrillo, the long late, lamented real sports, which was fabulous. Did a story on this about the. The cultivation of the whales and what casinos would do, whether they were Japanese businessmen who had a private plane who would fly to Vegas and the special perks that they would get. Anytime somebody brags was like, I go to Vegas all the time. I get this comped and I get that comped. My room is comped, my food is comped. I know what I always say that must mean you lose a lot, because usually if people start winning a lot, they cut them out of all this stuff because nobody's, Nobody's give people because that's, that's their job. And they've got algorithms doing that. And there, there are people doing it. But this. The woman who sent Bryce Harper, who was, who was in charge of Bryce Harper, who was, who was the curator, excuse me, was in charge of the. The gambler that is suing Fanduel was named Brittany. And the spelling of her name is a giveaway because it's spelled B R Y T T A N N, I. And one of her people who would receive gifts from her, as this concierge, say, hey, here's tickets to the super bowl here, fly here. And this, this gambler was given the airfare, hotels, tickets as, as stewardship of a client, essentially. Terry Thompson wagered 18.5 million and lost 1.5 million. I, I don't even know if that's considered good or bad. And I'm not gonna. I can't speak to the merits of the actual case, but as part of the maintenance of this account, he was sent a cameo video from Bryce Harper. And Bryce Harper says in the video, as he wishes Thompson and his family a happy Thanksgiving, Bryce Harper doesn't say anything about sports betting, but he says, he says your host Brittany from FanDuel wanted to make sure your Thanksgiving was extra special. Okay, so that's in there. And once I saw that, I realized this is in large part on Bryce Harper because Harper says FanDuel had no right to put its logo on the video and use it as a gambling promotion. He says he creates his personalized cameo videos to engage with fans. He creates camera videos to make money. Now, I know this. I'm on cameo.
Progressive Trucking Announcer
I don't know.
Dan Bernstein
Can you look up, go to cameo, See how much Bryce Harper gets. Perfect video. My guess is at least 500.
Matt
Yeah, I think it's like eight or nine.
Dan Bernstein
Let me see. Yeah, I would say 500 to a thousand or somewhere in between, because there's a lot of people who are on there. And I. I think my. I think I'm up to. What do I charge?
Progressive Insurance Announcer
50?
Matt
No, I. Last time I looked, yours was 13.95.
Dan Bernstein
I don't think it can be that long. I think. I think I'm charging 50. And it's been great. I. I love doing cameos. I love. Let me see, what's my. Yeah, $50 is my current price, and I have a blast with them. I've done all different kinds. I've done hundreds and hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of cameos.
Matt
Harper, it's his. His start at 8.
Dan Bernstein
Big ticket. Big tickets. Bryce Harper got big cameo ticket. So there are people who have tr.
Matt
Well, he looks like Svengoolie. I'm sorry, he does.
Dan Bernstein
Who does?
Matt
Bryce Harper.
Dan Bernstein
He's very hirsute.
Matt
Like, I wouldn't want this video. I would call the person up that sent it and be like, hey, do you not like me?
Dan Bernstein
I think you and Bryce Harper should have a beard growing contest, Maddie. Oh, I think the two of them a lot. I think the two of you have to shave and then just stand and stare at each other really hard and then just make the beer just spring out of your face. I think. I think that would be a matchup.
Progressive Trucking Announcer
So.
Dan Bernstein
And I've had people send me cameos that have been fishy. Hey, would you say, blah, blah, blah? And there's. There's all kinds of bad actors out there who want you on the record saying something. Sure, of course. And here. That's on you. That's on you. I've rejected all kinds of cameos because you've got to sniff them out.
Matt
Yeah.
Dan Bernstein
So let me.
Matt
Let me ask you as a guy who's done them, then. So if I. If I'm Bryce Harper and I get this script and now I'm saying that I didn't know idea they were going to use it like this. But if I get a script that says Britney from. From FanDuel, does he have the opportunity to say, hey, what's this about?
Dan Bernstein
Or not the opportunity he has the responsibility to do.
Matt
Okay, so. But you can, as the cameo person, you can, you can. Oh, you call someone the app.
Dan Bernstein
No, no. First of all, the app allows you to reject any cameo for no reason.
Matt
Okay.
Dan Bernstein
Not an indentured server. Once you join, you're not forced to record anything against your will.
Matt
So he could say no right away. If obviously, if it's something that's completely outrageous, you say no.
Dan Bernstein
Say no. No explanation.
Matt
If there's something where you want further explanation for, can you. Can you ask.
Dan Bernstein
Yes. Through the app.
Matt
Okay.
Dan Bernstein
So they make it that message. You can direct message the buyer and say, hey, needle clarification on this. Because some. And sometimes there's a script where they'll say, hey, could you say this? Make sure you say this. And look, if somebody's doing it for their business or somebody wants to do it and. And I think they're going to use their cameo to put it on their website and say, hey, Dan Bernstein said nice things about Joe's plumbing. Where I'm like, no, no, no, no. You get that that's not how this works. That this is not a business transaction. I'm wishing somebody happy birthday.
Matt
So he would, he would be able to directly message Brittany then.
Dan Bernstein
Yep.
Matt
And say, hey, give me some clarity on what this is about.
Dan Bernstein
You're. If you're Bryce Harper, you don't have to do that. If you're Bryce Harper, you call your agent or agents, you call your marketing representatives and you say, can you. What's in my FanDuel deal? Is this in my deal? Because it may be that there's something in there with a partnership where you've already agreed where you get X number of these or. Or FanDuel says, as part of our contract, there are three cameos that we can use for marketing purposes. Not to be used for this, this and this and this. It's very possible that those deals have some cameo. Have a piece.
Matt
No, no, no. That's. That's. Yeah, That's. That's.
Progressive Insurance Announcer
That's.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah, but just call and ask her. Just, just before you do that, if you have a problem with it, you have more. It's not hidden. This is not anything on cameo that is deceptive. I'm not talking about what his real and I don't know his relationship with fanduel. I just know if I were in Bryce Harper's position and I heard any business. And you can argue whatever you want about what a. What a casino or a sportsbook does with its clientele, that's going to be in the lawsuit.
Jenny V
Right.
Dan Bernstein
But here's me for my. For anybody whose brand is on there, if you wanted to refer to it as that, that's your job to protect your brand. And the Cameo app gives you every bit of control to be able to do that without any kind of deception. I've had. I've had people try to trick me into saying stuff about. About the Middle East. I've had people try to trick me into. No, seriously. About saying, hey, we're. I'm getting together with my buddies for our fantasy football. Can you say this about Free Palestine? I'm like, come on, man.
Matt
Right.
Dan Bernstein
Hey, my team, My team.
Matt
I'm Dan Bernstein. Happy birthday, Joe. On your 75th birthday in free Palestine.
Progressive Insurance Announcer
That.
Dan Bernstein
But no, but that's the stuff people put in there.
Matt
Okay? So the name.
Dan Bernstein
The name of my fantasy football team is Free Palestine and From the river to the Sea, that's the name of my fantasy team.
Matt
Like, come on. You make a point, though. That makes me another thought that. Yeah. You said Bryce Harper's not going to reach out to, you know, whoever. His people will. So if his people come to Bryce Harper and say, here, you need to do this cameo thing, he would then assume everything's on. On the up and up. Right.
Dan Bernstein
Well, then he's got an issue with his people.
Matt
Correct.
Dan Bernstein
That's not an. That. That's different.
Matt
That's not a. That's.
Dan Bernstein
Ultimately, if the phone is in his hand, it is his name. He is the one recording the cameo. This is. There's no AI Bryce Harper here. This is on him.
Matt
Yeah, it. Well, it lands on him. But I think it's. I think because the point you make about his people, this is his people's fault, but it's on him. If you're. If you're. If you're an all star level, MVP caliber player and you're doing Cameo, you're not dead. You're not like. As you. As you made the point. He's not dealing with that on his own.
Dan Bernstein
No.
Matt
What maybe happened, came to him and said, hey, you got this cameo to do. He's not going to second. He's not going to second guess that at all.
Dan Bernstein
I picture it like this. I picture that you say, hey, every homestand when you get home, there's. We're going to do an hour where you're going to do the cameo videos
Matt
for this week and, or whatever other obligations he has. Sure.
Dan Bernstein
Part of it. You're going to sign all your baseballs, you're going to do every. Where your, your assistant is going to come to you and say, okay, we got to knock out this week's cameo videos. And there's 15 of them, and one's to Larry and one's to Joe and one's to Ann and ones to Mary, and you get to, okay, who's this? Who's next? All right. Okay. And he's doing a million other things, and it's like, okay, hey, Happy Thanksgiving, and you're hosted FanDuel, blah, blah, blah. Okay, that's done. What's next? But it's still on him. It's still on him to say, whoa, whoa, hey, what do you mean? Brittany from FanDuel on this one. Are we sure? Is this right? Do I, it's, that's, that is still on him.
Matt
No, I know.
Dan Bernstein
It's easy. It's easy to see it slip through the cracks, and it's easy to understand why somebody wouldn't. But then you can't, after the fact then say, wait a second here.
Matt
No, he can't.
Dan Bernstein
And that's that you can't do that.
Matt
Then from a legal standpoint, it is on him. Yes. But that is something that he has to deal with with his people because that, that shouldn't have happened.
Dan Bernstein
Then after, if you want to go back and say, hey, you got to protect me better. Yeah, I need more of a, I need a thicker layer of protection from some of these decisions that I might not be in the headspace to make or have the awareness. Sure, that's, yeah, that. But that's. If he wants extra layers of protection.
Matt
Yeah.
Dan Bernstein
From this application, that's fine. But it is, I, I, I, I just want to make sure that you know that from my experience, from my experience when I've had. I wait a second. And, and I will say there have been a couple times when I've been recording something and you hear it come out of your mouth and you're like, you know what? I'm not comfortable saying that. Yeah, no, I could be used differently.
Matt
And I, I think, yo, you're exactly right. And I'm not disagreeing with that at all. But I think from his perspective, the level of star that he is as an athlete, he's just assuming that everything's vetted and is. What is my assumption on this?
Dan Bernstein
It could Be. Yeah.
Matt
And, and if, if there's a copy that he gets through, and I think you make a great point that he's got 10 or 12 of these to do. We're gonna knock these out when you get home next Tuesday. If he's looking through one, it says, and he's reading through and he's like, oh, you know, Brittany from, you know, Roxy's titty bar wants to make sure you and your family have a great, like, he probably got a lot of
Dan Bernstein
money at Roxy's, but he'd probably look
Matt
at that and go, what is, what is this one?
Dan Bernstein
Yeah, I don't want to.
Matt
But for a professional athlete to see one that says, you know, a very reputable, well known company, he's not going to question that at all.
Dan Bernstein
No, you're probably right. You're probably right that I'm, I'm more sensitive to it maybe.
Matt
Right. Because of your circumstance. I get it. You, like, you've, you've dealt with this and you've had experiences where people are trying to pull one over on you and you got to deal with it on your own and you're your own protection where he doesn't have that. He's not, I mean, he, he pays people, I'm sure, to do this stuff for him. And if they hand him something, why wouldn't he read it? Now, I know in his statement, his statement comes very clear that it looks like, oh, you know, I was tricked and I was duped and he's not throwing his people under the bus, but maybe that's what's next, I don't know.
Dan Bernstein
So we'll see how he handles this. But I just think it's kind of weak to, to put out a public statement when it's ultimately your responsibility.
Matt
You're, and you're correct on that. And anything I had to say, that's, that, that trumps everything I had to say.
Dan Bernstein
That's, that's just kind of how I look at it. But, boy, we've had a lot of adventures in social media. Have you ever had any experience in social media? I'm just wondering, do you that I might be, I might be qualified to talk about misadventures in social media? This is all, it's all, it's all harmonizing right now.
Matt
I'm really tempted.
Dan Bernstein
And you know what's ironic? You know what's ironic? Had I not had those misadventures or that specific misadventure myself in social media, I wouldn't be able to talk about this stuff.
Matt
That's correct. Dude, I'm really tempted to put a, a tweet out that says like, hey, Cody, great off the Ivy today. Really good stuff. Dan is such a jerk. And then just post that on Twitter.
Dan Bernstein
Dan is just here. I, I, you know what?
Progressive Insurance Announcer
Do it.
Dan Bernstein
Why not?
Matt
I think I'm gonna start texting Cody through Twitter and just talking about you.
Dan Bernstein
I wouldn't be mad.
Matt
Of course you wouldn't.
Dan Bernstein
Because that, that would be really funny if you, if you did it in a way to promote this episode of the pod. Like, gee, I hope people. Yeah, if you found a backdoor way to promote this particular episode, that would be just epic. Yeah, it's good. Good thought.

I love my Traeger smoker, by the way. I think I just, I love my Traeger smoker. It's.
Dan Bernstein
I didn't know you had a Traeger smoker.
Matt
Oh, I love it. I absolutely love it. And I, it's so funny, dude. I. So I've never been on a motorcycle. I've, I've never, I've never ridden on a motorcycle. I've, you know, never been in the back. But it's, it's, it's really funny. And you probably. I've never told you this, but I've been to multiple Harley Davidson stores just to walk through and look because I just, I, I think they're cool. I know. I think they're, I think they're really cool.
Dan Bernstein
That's like what I do. I do that with Farm and Fleet
Matt
and I would be like, man, that would be really cool to ride that bike. I probably never will, but boy, it would be cool. I just, I, I just think they're really cool.
Dan Bernstein
I could spend all day in Farm and Fleet as like an Americana experiment. I go there just like scientifically observe. But, but the joke is on me because I try to go in like I'm, I'm going to see these people in their natural environment and I'm, I'm a foreigner here. I'm like Jane Goodall, you know, and I, Right. And I've got my beige safari jacket on and binoculars and I'm taking notes. And then, and then I, I gravitate toward. Oh, there's fishing gear over here.
Matt
Yep.
Dan Bernstein
And then I'm like, oh, well that's a, that's a really good price for Rapala BLT Ned rigs. And they've got bubblegum color.
Matt
Like.
Dan Bernstein
And then all of a sudden like, oh wait, wait, I gotta put my vest back on and pretend I'm not supposed to be. I'm not part of this.
Progressive Insurance Announcer
Yes.
Dan Bernstein
I'm not part of this. And then I brought Jason one time and he saw the, the Pabst Blue Ribbon Timberlands.
Matt
Oh boy.
Dan Bernstein
Oh, are they awesome. They're so cool looking. They're pb. Have you ever seen.
Matt
I've never seen him. Did he, did he get a pair
Dan Bernstein
of I, I, they're too expensive. Oh, he's, and I said, Jason, you'd wear them once. But they're, they're like literal beer drinking boots.
Matt
That's funny.
Dan Bernstein
And it says that there's, and, but they look great. And it's like, dad, these are, these are so cool. Please.
Matt
Yeah.
Dan Bernstein
Aren't they?
Matt
Yeah, they're not too bad.
Dan Bernstein
What are they like 199?
Matt
Oh, no, that is not a retail price. Oh, dude, this is 495.
Dan Bernstein
495?
Matt
Yeah.
Dan Bernstein
This.
Matt
I see one here. Yeah. Wow.
Dan Bernstein
Oh, they went up then maybe they're limited time. That, that, that's, that's like more than double what I saw them going for in Farm and Fleet. But yeah, the, the. So you'll just kind of, it's kind
Matt
of wander around a store. Yeah, I, I haven't been up to the, the Woodstock Store one. The only time I go to Woodstock was to. Was to. For. For sports. And we usually in and out.
Dan Bernstein
Go check it out.
Matt
Yeah, but I like them.
Dan Bernstein
Big friends of Hubbard Chicago. Yeah, they're. They're long time friends of Hubbard Chicago. You know, they're huge with our guys Sherman and Tingle.
Matt
Oh, they are okay.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah, they've. I think they've done like a thirsty Thursday or they've done stuff out there.
Matt
Oh, have they really?
Dan Bernstein
Oh, yeah.
Matt
Oh, that's awesome.
Dan Bernstein
Probably not a thirsty Thursday, but super
Matt
excited that they have Woodstock. Harley Davidson.
Progressive Trucking Announcer
Yeah.
Dan Bernstein
Go ch. Out right now. We should get you a motorcycle.
Progressive Trucking Announcer
They should.
Matt
No, I'm not gonna. I'm. Yeah, I just. That's just not my thing. I think they're very cool. I like them.
Dan Bernstein
But you want a big chopper. I saw some guys on the Edens the other day. I think it said makanudos was there with their.
Matt
Their leather.
Dan Bernstein
They look like. They look like, I don't know, like weekend warrior types, I guess. If you're. If you're bikers on the Edens used to be like the guys that would. That would stage up at highland house on 41 and 22.
Jenny V
Okay.
Dan Bernstein
That. That was a big place for like the lawyers and doctors that do their. The weekend bike.
Matt
They.
Dan Bernstein
And I loved that restaurant. I love the Highwood House.
Matt
Like I'm look. I'm looking on. I'm on Woodstock's website, woodstockhd.com and they're
Dan Bernstein
just super cool looking. Yeah, they are. That's why people love them. Oh, man. Oh, they'll get. They'll just send one over.
Matt
No, I don't.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah, you know, they'll trick one out
Matt
and I think this is.
Dan Bernstein
Hey, hey, Maddie.
Matt
Here.
Dan Bernstein
Why don't you just ride this for a while.
Matt
They logo it up with 312 sports.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah, yeah. And then.
Matt
And.
Dan Bernstein
And customize it though, so the handlebars are way up here. Oh, wow. You know, like it should be one of those.
Matt
You lay way back. Yes. You gotta reach up really hard.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Big saddlebags on there with fringe.
Matt
Put all my water loosing those. Yeah.
Dan Bernstein
It's a wind jammer. Is that what they still call that thing?
Matt
Remember that the. Like the.
Dan Bernstein
The thing with the light and the. The windshield and the. It makes it half a car.
Matt
Have you heard someone playing their music
Dan Bernstein
really loud from their motorcycle all the time?
Matt
Dude, it's like a. It's like a. There was. Where were you? We were at. We were in Inwood maybe or I don't know where we Were. But we were pulling in to go get some lunch in whoever I was with Jackson or Hank. And I thought there was a dj, like, in this parking lot that we were pulling into. And I'm like, what is happening? Yeah. And then it was a dude on a motorcycle.
Dan Bernstein
Maddie. It's nothing compared to boats.
Matt
Oh, yeah.
Dan Bernstein
Oh, the boats. With the boats out here that go by. The people with the giant speakers in their boats and the twerking and, like, middle of the day yesterday. It's a Monday, middle of the day. There's an entire boat. Boat full of ass just. Just twerking to some. Barely. Like, the. The. The beat is so low and heavy, it, like, shakes your chest more than you can hear it. Yeah. Coming from wherever. And there's also people that ride their little loud motorbikes and have the giant speakers. So, hey, it's better than having your earbuds in because at least you can hear a car horn. I think it's. It's probably safer, and I think that's why people do it. I watched instead of the Home Run Derby last night, I watched the Bulls summer league game, because that's what you do. And Caleb Wilson was bad but awesome. Let me explain. He shot horribly. He should have had, like, 50 points just by free throws, because you know what they're doing. If you get fouled shooting a three, you get one free throw. That counts for the three points. And he couldn't make a free throw. I think I saw him miss seven in a row at one point. He's a 71% collegiate foul shooter, so my guess is something has to do with him being out for months and having the thumb surgery or whatever. I'm going to give him every benefit of the doubt. I don't think the guy is a 40% free throw shooter. I'm not worried about that. But even on a. Even when bad, there were a couple things I really liked. He's always trying to do something. And Thiago Splitter apparently told him, shoot it every time. And that's what's great, is that he's got free reign out there. I don't know that Billy Donovan would have done this, but Tiago's like, no, no. Yeah, You're. You're Caleb Wilson.
Matt
Summer league.
Dan Bernstein
It's summer league. He should shoot it every time. Nobody cares if you win or lose. It doesn't matter. And they were awful. They scored, like, 60 points in an NBA game, which is nearly impossible. But go ahead, shoot it every day. All that matters.
Matt
He's.
Dan Bernstein
He matters Dylan Swain matters. Nobody else really matters. And if you want to develop this guy Sellers, I kind of think he's worth maybe a two way. Look, I like some of the traits there. A Senge matters. He's. He's just got to get stronger. That man has just got to get stronger. He's got to stop falling down. He's. He's got a, he's just got to hold his position. He, he just needs to be sturdier because he's got some defensive instincts and he's long. There were a couple of Senge plays I really liked. There was one breakaway with a defender closing when he dribbled. And instead of bringing the ball down, instead of a gather, instead of a fake, he went one hand like Giannis. He just, he just came right off the dribble, kept it right up and dunked it. And another, he got fouled on a little sweeping left to right basket attack where he did that extendo gadget arm. And you saw that. So I'm in watching these games, you see traits, you see a lot of little things, but I love how they're coaching or, or not coaching. Caleb Wilson,
Cody Delmendo
he's.
Dan Bernstein
He's going to be some. Did you see the dunk? Did you see the baseline dunk?
Matt
I did not. And that's him last night.
Dan Bernstein
You should look at the baseline.
Matt
You know what? It's. I didn't know that's what it was. I was growing through this morning and I saw a video that it was, it was the slow. It was a dunk and the, the, the dunk in slow mo. I didn't know it was from last night. I didn't stop on it, so.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah, okay. Yeah, it's, it's, I think technically a thrunk.
Matt
Okay.
Dan Bernstein
It, it's more like. It's, it's a, it's a throw in dunk. Kind of like if you remember, the Blake Griffin dunk over Timofey Mozgoff.
Matt
Oh, yeah.
Dan Bernstein
You know, you're.
Matt
No, I do. No, I, I'm. Because that, because that name, it was, it's, it's. Someone spelled their name wrong and they kept it.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah, Timofey. Yeah, it's. It's somewhat similar to that, but the, the height, it's sort of where the peak of the jump is and you say, oh, that guy is on the bulls. And that was very, very nice to see. That was extremely exciting. Even when he's bad, you see good stuff and like how he hit his free throws. I didn't count it all up But I think. I think he left something. You saw it?
Matt
Yes. Ouch.
Dan Bernstein
Huh. Huh?
Matt
Oh,
Dan Bernstein
that's ease on the Bulls. And apparently Splitter told him, like, I guess the rule is as long as you play defense. And they are. They were guarding a little bit. He had a couple of block shots, too, that were legit and not like super showy blocking somebody else's guy's shot. Yeah, like, really controlled, timed. What do you end up with? 5 blocks. It's the minutes when he's on the floor. I have been paying very, very close attention to what's going on. I obviously wasn't paying enough close attention to add up is the free throws, because they're doing the rule where one free throw counts for more, so you miss one.
Matt
Do they do that every. Is that every. Is that a summer league thing?
Dan Bernstein
I think they did it last year and they're doing. They're doing it this year. They do it in G League too, where, except for the last two minutes, it just. It picks up the pace where you get fouled on a three, you get one free throw for all three points.
Matt
Oh, they lost 80 to 63.
Dan Bernstein
It is bad. But a lot of that's free throws.
Matt
Yeah.
Dan Bernstein
And a lot of it was. Was his free throws. So it's. And to see. He never stopped playing hard. He never stopped trying. When they mic'd him up, it was clear that he understood the four or five plays that they have in there, the. The basic NBA, current NBA sets they have in there, and they were guarding. And I'd say Jalen Sellers plays really hard. He's in a very high motor, very high intensity, like. Like, you know, beating his chest and screaming like it's a summer league.
Cody Delmendo
But.
Dan Bernstein
Okay, all good. You know, we're down to the final four of the World Cup. We've got France and Spain. We've got England and Argentina. The top four seeds are left. This is good.
Matt
We like this.
Dan Bernstein
This is what we want as much. They like upsets and upstarts, and you had your upsets and your upstarts. You see, Norway returned to a hero's welcome for their performance, and they deserved every bit of it. I saw Erling Holland was getting off the plane with a taxiderm raccoon.
Matt
Yep. Saw that.
Dan Bernstein
That's what he came back with. He's coming down the stairs of the plane with a stuffed raccoon and a whiskey bottle.
Matt
I think that was. That raccoon was alive and it was just listening to him.
Dan Bernstein
Nice beaver.
Jenny V
Thank you.
Dan Bernstein
I just had it stuffed. If you didn't think of that? I. You're dead to me. That was the first thing I thought of when I saw him carrying that. How hot and wet would you like it? Very hot and awfully wet.
Matt
Where?
Dan Bernstein
Oh, yes. You can spend hours breaking down all the tactics and lineups if you want, or you can just ask this question. Will both teams score? It's an easy bet available for you on my bookie. There's no injury reports, no xg, no pretending you watch qualifying matches from six different confederations, and it is just one of the biggest sporting events in the world, and it's coming down the wire. You'll get a deposit bonus, and you'll get up to $500 in protection on your first bet at my bookie. What does that mean? Well, that means if you. If your bet doesn't win, then you can get the $500 and get it back, and then you have it like it unhappened with the promo code dbu.

I wasn't going to admit this, but I'm going to. You see what I'm wearing today? Let me just show you real quick. I'm wearing a black T shirt. Okay.
Matt
Yep.
Dan Bernstein
Shout out one of the places. The Boars and Bernstein Tavern Tour. I'm wearing black long pants, okay? Nylon, joggers, whatever. Sweatpants, black. Why did I do this? Am I joining a German mime troop? No, I'm not. Although I. I will hold out the possibility that I may. If I want, I can do that. If I want, I can join Moomin Shuns. But I'm not. I did this so I wouldn't go fishing today. It's 97 degrees, right? And, like, 98 humidity. So I got up. I'm like, you know, I went fishing yesterday. It was hot. I don't want to go fishing today. But I. I didn't trust myself because what happens is I don't intend to go fishing. And then I walk over to the front to the, like the lobby here and I look out at where I would be fishing and I, and I immediately say I have to go down there and fish immediately. And then I spend the rest of the day there. I don't get home until 8 o'.
Jenny V
Clock.
Dan Bernstein
I've, I have some errands to run. I have to do laundry and I need to do this while the kids are out and I, and I've got an opportunity. I need to pick up prescriptions. I think I need to, I, I got to pick up light bulbs and I haven't, I, I haven't done.
Matt
So you, you dress in a certain
Dan Bernstein
way to prevent yourself, to dissuade myself.
Matt
Because how do you lack the discipline enough as a 57 year old man to not go fishing?
Dan Bernstein
I do the things you need.
Matt
I do.
Dan Bernstein
I had, I had cargo shorts and a light T shirt and I said if I wear cargo shorts and a light T shirt, I am not going to get done what I need to get done today because I'm going to end up going fishing. So I put on a black T shirt and black long pants and say this will force me to drive directly home or to make me run my errands. Now what do you think is going to happen?
Matt
You're going to go fishing?
Dan Bernstein
You think I'm not?
Matt
Yes.
Dan Bernstein
You think I'm going to go fishing and be hot and miserable?
Matt
Yeah. Or you're going to do it without pants on.
Dan Bernstein
Oh, I didn't think of that as an option.
Matt
Ooh,
Dan Bernstein
see that, that's not a bad idea. Or, or if I'm really deranged, do I go buy shorts and then grab like a, some free T shirt lying around in the promotions room?
Matt
Well, you can fish in a black T shirt. I would ask if there's shorts in the promotions office of any kind.
Dan Bernstein
There's no shorts in there, but there's a T shirt. I could go, I never know. I have the same shorts I've had since like I got out of college. I could buy new shorts.
Matt
I'm sure Sherman and Tingle have a whole wardrobe of clothes there.
Dan Bernstein
I don't even want to ask. It's a gimp suit.
Matt
No. You know, I'm sure they've got to have shorts in there somewhere. If you see a basketball game breaks
Dan Bernstein
out, if you see somebody fishing in a lucha libre mask, that's, you know. You know. Yeah, you absolutely know who that is. So I, it's, it's true. I did that today. And if you see me out there today, make fun of me. Send me home. Just tell. Tell me to leave. Tell me I have prescriptions to pick up that go a long way to keeping me alive.
Matt
Yeah, go run your errands.
Cody Delmendo
You should.
Matt
You shouldn't have to dress a certain way to not fish like you have things. Go do your things.
Dan Bernstein
I don't want to do.
Matt
Be an adult.
Dan Bernstein
I don't wanna be an adult. That's not fun.
Matt
You have plenty of time to go fishing. Go around.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah, but you don't, though, because what would I say in the middle of February, you know, Super Bowl. We were getting ready for the Bears super bowl, you know, and I'm home. I'm doing crossword puzzles, I'm exercising at home. And I'm like, God, I wish I'd go fishing.
Matt
You know, live somewhere where you can fish year round.
Dan Bernstein
That one day in July when I. When I should have been taking advantage of this gorgeous weather. Maybe a little lake bre.
Matt
Why don't you do your errands, then go fishing? I mean, your errands are going to take you seven hours. It's like. Do you have to go make the prescription pills yourself?
Dan Bernstein
No, but the Walgreens is near home. And then I'd be home. Am I going to come back down? But they're open till 8. Maybe I could just. I don't know.
Matt
So this is like the biggest dilemma of your day, man, to have your life, I tell you.
Dan Bernstein
No, it's not the biggest dilemma of my day. I use this to hide.
Matt
Yeah, the biggest dilemma of your day is what am I going to eat?
Dan Bernstein
No, I. Again, different show, but I.
Cody Delmendo
This is.
Dan Bernstein
No, I do these things in my head to hide from all of my actual anxieties that are actually in your head. You don't want to think about it. Right? Right. No, it's coping and it's distraction to keep me from ruminating on man's inhumanity to man and the looming specter of death.
Matt
I just checked the fishing app. It said no fish today, so just go fish.
Dan Bernstein
They left.
Matt
Yeah. You won't catch anything today. It's too hot. They're all on the boat with your Italian friend on the broat. Yeah.
Dan Bernstein
What are you with my Italian friend? Oh, the. Which one? The sea captain.
Matt
The guy who plays Dean Martin? Yeah.
Dan Bernstein
Oh, that guy. I think I know who that is, but the. No, I thought you meant the sea captain that ran the ship.
Matt
I can't wait to watch that documentary. We're gonna. We're gonna watch it. Yeah, I can't wait.
Dan Bernstein
I fell. Remember?
Matt
Where's the captain? Oh, he's gone. What happened? He said he fell into a lifeboat.
Dan Bernstein
The captain of the cruise liner put the cruise liner on the rocks and bailed.
Matt
Places to be man.
Dan Bernstein
I don't blame I don't even scoozy what's that are even there Cheese that goodbye.
Matt
Yeah. Yeah. I can't wait to watch that documentary. It's on the list of things to watch.
Dan Bernstein
Oh.
Matt
Oh, my God.
Dan Bernstein
