And now he's this giant man, but who's taking his shirt off a lot.
Podcast Host
We gotta tell him to stop.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
And I was like, you're not gonna figure out, you're gonna move.
Bindi Irwin
I haven't put my son to sleep.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
And I don't feel like you're present. And you were like, I'm gonna have.
Bindi Irwin
To defend myself on this one.
Robert Herjavec
In fairness, it was a Rolls Royce.
Podcast Host
Welcome to night here on the Dance with the Stars official podcast. To me, this is such a special night. From the first number to the last contemporary. I love seeing all the emotion expressed through dance. Dylan and Daniella finished the night at the top of the leaderboard and there was no elimination tonight. Coming up in just a bit, I'll be chatting with tonight's guest judge, two time Dance with the Stars champ, Kim Johnson. And she'll be bringing a very special plus one, her season 20 partner and now husband, Shark Tank's Robert Herjavec. And later, I'll chat with my former partner and two time Dance with the Stars champion, Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky. We're gonna talk about technique, all the fun times we had on last season, and dive deeper into tonight's performances. But right now, I wanna welcome someone very special. She's an actor, TV personality, a wildlife conservationist, and season 21 mirrorball champion. She's also the older sister to Robert. It's the one, the only, Bindi Irwin. Hi, Bindi.
Bindi Irwin
Good day. It's so good to see you.
Podcast Host
So good to see you. I have to start off just asking, how are you feeling right now after tonight performance and just everything.
Bindi Irwin
Oh, my goodness. I. I think I. I have cried all of my mascara off. That was just such an incredible night. I am so proud of Robert and mom. They did so well. And I know from my experience on this beautiful, moving show, it was such a healing and cathartic experience that watching him being given the same gift, to be able to really reminisce and remember and honour his grief journey and the love we all have as a family. It's just, it's indescribable. It's so special.
Podcast Host
Special is the right word. You could feel it tonight. There was a different feeling when he was dancing and what he was releasing. And one of my favorite moments was actually when Derek talked after the dance. You could see his love he had for your family. I. The love I have for your family. Thank you. I just have so much love for you guys and like, man, I'm so proud of you. Thank you. I really am.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
Just you become such an amazing man.
Podcast Host
And the world needs the Irwin family. Thank you, Derek.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
Thank you.
Podcast Host
How is it still with Derek and that relationship and to see how much you could tell he was moved by that tonight.
Bindi Irwin
Oh, I love Derek so much. I've always said he's like my big brother. He is just the most wonderful human being. And getting to have this full circle moment where, you know, we won our season together and now to be back and he is judging and my brother's competing, it's just, it couldn't be more perfect. And you know Derek, he had his work cut out for him. When I first started on my season, I'd never worn high heels.
Podcast Host
You're kidding.
Bindi Irwin
Nope. I had never danced before. And so his patience, he has more patience, I think than anyone I've ever met in my life. And it's just incredible. His vastness of knowledge is brilliant. So him as a judge, it's so fantastic for Robert getting to hear his notes and thoughts. It's really gonna help him go far. I think in the compet it is.
Podcast Host
Like something out of a movie that your partner is now the person that's judging your brother's experience. That's just crazy to think about. But we need to come back to the fact that you never were in even heels at all. Like you never walked in heels before. I never walked in heels and you danced.
Bindi Irwin
It was.
Podcast Host
That makes no sense to me.
Bindi Irwin
Okay. But I have to tell you, when I first arrived for my very first rehearsal, I put on my high heels and no joke, I fell flat on my face immediately. Just immediately. And everyone, producers, Derek, they all looked at me and they were like, oh, no. Oh, that's okay. This girl's gonna be voted off immediately because I couldn't even walk. But I swear it was just sheer will.
Podcast Host
Yeah, that would have to be it.
Bindi Irwin
That kept us going.
Podcast Host
Well, I also love that this season your whole family comes out every single week. Whether it's your mom, Terry, your husband Chandler, you have grace that's here every week. What has it been like to be able to be at every performance, to move back and be in the ballroom.
Bindi Irwin
Oh, it is just awesome. We decided as a family to move here for the three months that he was on the show and it was a tricky decision. You know we live at Australia Zoo and our whole world revolves around our conservation work but more than anything else it's about being together as a family and supporting each other. And I know from my season, you know my family was there every step of the way for me and I wanted to be able to do the same for Ron. You know he was, oh my goodness, 10, 11 when I did my season and he was there every show cheering for me in the audience and it meant so much. So to get to do the same for him, you know and help in any way that I can, it just means the world to me. And as his older sister, I mean to me he will always be this little teeny tiny blonde boy and now he's this giant man but who's taking his shirt off a lot.
Podcast Host
We gotta tell him to stop talking.
Bindi Irwin
I don't know.
Podcast Host
That's not 11 year old Robert energy. What are we doing?
Bindi Irwin
No, it's a lot for me as a sister I would understand there's some things you cannot unsee as a sister but anyway I'm getting through it.
Podcast Host
Hey, my sister came to the opening show and I ripped mine open and she was like please, please stop doing it, please no. Please, no. As you will see Robert will keep doing it because it is part of the show so it's gonna happen and.
Bindi Irwin
We sisters have to support.
Podcast Host
It's okay. It's just at least, you know, at least you know what you're getting yourself into.
Kim Johnson
Ex.
Podcast Host
It is special because when you guys walk in it's like it's a whole family atmosphere, you know it's, I mean they said it tonight, we need the Irwin family. It is a loving feeling when you guys come in and I know it makes such a difference for him.
Bindi Irwin
Thank you. I hope so.
Podcast Host
Obviously your family bond is so strong. What are some lessons you're trying to teach your daughter along with that as well?
Bindi Irwin
Oh my goodness. I really want to teach my daughter about the importance of family and unconditional love. You know after losing dad so early on it, it has solidified the fact that life is short for me. My dad was and still is my superhero. You know as an eight year old little girl my dad was the strongest, the strongest person I knew and losing him was really difficult because I, it was quite scary. You know, losing the one person who you thought was absolutely untouchable, it was really difficult and scary. And I'm still grieving, and I think that kind of grief, it never goes away. But I think that what it has taught me and what I hope to teach Grace is that life is so precious. You have to seize every opportunity to be with the ones that you love. You have to take that important trip, spend that weekend together, call your loved one and tell them how much they mean to you. Because we only have so much time in our lives and the people that we love, that is our purpose. That's our reason for being. That's why we exist, is sharing that love and light with each other. And I hope that as Grace gets older, she always remembers that the true meaning of life is unconditional love. And that for us, we will love her forever and ever and be with her no matter what. And hopefully she'll be able to pass that along to her family one day as well. But it is. It's. It's. It's so important to be. To be reminded that life is short. And my dad was so incredible because he lived each day as if it was his last. And I mean that genuinely. A lot of us say it, but he lived it. For example, if he had some incredible experience with an animal or we did something amazing together as a family, he would say, well, I can now die happy. And he. He said that because he embraced life so much.
Podcast Host
Yeah, well, you guys lead by example. It's very obvious in that fact. So that's very special.
Bindi Irwin
Thank you.
Podcast Host
I love that so much. And I want to get to the performance tonight because there's so much we can talk about with Robert. But you did talk about dedicating to your dad, and I thought that was so special you got the chance to do that during your season. Thank you for dedication night. We'd be remiss not to talk about that because I thought it was so special. I watched it again before coming into this because I've probably watched it a million times now. I thought it was so amazing to see the emotions that you had. What was that like to have a dedication night for your dad, for your family? And how did it feel to kind of see that happen again tonight?
Bindi Irwin
For Robert, it was really wonderful and healing. I think that's the best word to describe it, because this show, this atmosphere, has this amazing way of taking some of your hardest moments and helping you to work through them and so to be able to trust someone. For me, it was Derek, like Getting to completely trust him and go, okay, we're gonna work through this together. It was extremely emotional. It was extremely difficult, but it was also incredibly meaningful. And it felt so right to be able to dedicate the dance to dad. And that's why it's so lovely, you know, watching Robert tonight, he dedicated the dance to mum, which was so perfect because our. Oh, my goodness. She is the strongest woman in the world. She raised us as a single parent so early on. I was 8 when dad died and Robert was 2. And so she kept our family together while she was grieving. She made sure we were okay when she was in her darkest hour. And that is something to be so celebrated to. To applaud and. And she also. She runs Australia Zoo, so she runs Australia Zoo, our nonprofit wildlife warriors. She's just this force to be reckoned with. And so it's really nice that, you know, we are able to honor both of our parents. It feels like this is exactly how it was supposed to be.
Podcast Host
That's very special. And you could feel that tonight. I. I want to get into that, because I thought it was so special that he did it for your mom. And you could tell that he had so much emotion about that. I think back to the package where he brought the idea that he wanted to show gratitude. He felt like he didn't always get the chance to do that. And the fact that he got to do that through dance. I know you can speak on that, but it was truly special.
Bindi Irwin
It really was. And it's so lovely, too, because mom is just the most hilariously fantastic person. Her sense of humor is remarkable. And I remember before dad died, he always used to say to mum, you must never lose your sense of humor. He would say that to her daily because she's so. She's so wonderful. And so for her, she just brings in this energy in any space that she's in that just makes everyone feel so happy and joyful. And I think it's so lovely that Robert's dance was so emotional, but also such a beautiful, happy moment, too. And the fact that he was able to convey so much in that one dance was. Oh, it was just extraordinary. And mum was so gorgeous in her. In her beautiful yellow dress. You know, she's never danced either, so she was like, oh, I don't know how it's gonna go, but she did so, so well. So we're very proud of her.
Podcast Host
If I know one thing, when the Irwins go on a ballroom floor, they're gonna show up. It's gonna be Just fine, thank you.
Bindi Irwin
I wish dad was still around. Cause, I mean, he was. I don't ever remember seeing him dance in my entire life. So I wonder how he think he'd be.
Podcast Host
It's coming from somewhere. So, you know, that could be the key. We don't know about. Maybe it was untapped potential.
Bindi Irwin
Probably not knowing, but maybe because, you know, that's what this show is all about. It's connection. And also getting to share your story with so many people is such a blessing. And for us, it's the message of conservation. When I was on the show, I always said I never imagined that I would reach my message of conservation to so many people wearing sequins and high heels. Like, did not know that this would happen. It was not on my bingo card. But it's just such a lovely place to be able to share your journey and your story. And everyone on this season is so extraordinary. Everyone is doing such a great job, and what a lovely experience. It's kind of that elevator effect. You know, when you get onto an elevator, you kind of don't know who you're going to be in it with. And for this moment, you just are very close to the people in the elevator. And that's kind of what this is like. You get to know everybody so well, and you form these lifelong bonds.
Podcast Host
When you come back, is there any dances that you remember that you like? Because, I know it's weird. When you're on the side, you, like, think about possibly being like, I kind of want to dance again. Yes, you do. Was there ones that you think back on that you were so proud of, or ones that you get excited to think about or look back at?
Bindi Irwin
Oh, absolutely. I think there's two dances from my season that I loved the most, so the first would have to be my freestyle. So at the very end of the show, Derek and I did a freestyle together. And it was so special. And it kind of felt like, I don't know, this. This perfect ending to the season. It was just really, really lovely. And, I mean, every week I thought I was gonna be voted off. Genuinely. I would pack my bags each week. After the first week, I was like, this has been an amazing experience. I'm ready to go. And then I was suddenly still there the next week. It was wild. So getting to the end, that freestyle just felt so good. Like we had been through so much together. To be at that finish line was extraordinary. But. But I also loved. I did a dance with Derek and Mark.
Podcast Host
Oh, a trio.
Bindi Irwin
Yes, it was a trio. And it was so much fun. We had like this metal box that we danced with and around. It was wild and so, so much fun. And also Mark is fantastic. Mark is a genius. So brilliant and so lovely. So to be with two of the greatest people in the whole wide world, Derek and Mark, it was just such a fun week. And you know, I may have had some. We pushed the limits.
Podcast Host
Yeah.
Bindi Irwin
You know, I may have been dropped a couple times. But that's okay.
Podcast Host
It happens.
Bindi Irwin
I do not witchcam. I do not hold it against you. Mark and Derek. It's okay. It was, it was so fun though. And yeah, I think every week was so brilliant. But it's weird being on this side now because, you know, when you're in the show, you wouldn't understand. Like you have this level of anxiety. Like there's a lot going on, there's a lot to remember. So I have to remind myself, you know, this is Robert's journey. Don't be anxious. Cause I don't.
Podcast Host
My fiance said it all the time. She's like, it's better to not have you in there because it's scary on the outside. Jenna says it too when she watches Val. If you have skin in the game, it's almost worse than dancing. Cause you can't even control it.
Bindi Irwin
No, you're just on the sidelines. And I find that I'm constantly flinching with them because I'm like, oh, because they're doing so well. They're remarkable. Robert and Whitney are incredible. And Whitney's just brilliant. She's so good. But I still like have to push down that anxiety. Like it's not me. It's okay. We'll just see what happens. But no, they're doing so well together. There's nothing to be anxious about.
Podcast Host
No, I mean, it's understandable though. And I do want to say, as much as you feel like you don't understand how the sequence and everything can convey this message of the conservation, what you guys are doing, the reason why it happens is because your family has something so unique, this authenticity that you have a message, that you have something that you are trying to keep on and living. And it just, you can tell. And that's why people fall in love with it. That's why they want more of it. It's just, it's so pure and it fits right in with Dancing with the Stars and what the show is. So we love having your family here. It's such a difference maker when you guys are in the ballroom.
Bindi Irwin
Thank you so much. And it's so great to get to talk to you. How cool is it to be like.
Podcast Host
I love it.
Bindi Irwin
Continuing on, continuing the amazing Dancing with the Stars journey. It's really cool.
Kim Johnson
So thank you.
Bindi Irwin
Thank you for being here every week and for sharing all of our stories because it's really important because we all have the opportunity to leave a legacy and we just have to choose to leave a positive and kind legacy and hopefully do our part to making the world a better place. So thank you.
Podcast Host
I love it. Benny, thank you. We really do appreciate having you here.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
Yay.
Bindi Irwin
Go Robert and Whitney.
Podcast Host
Go Robert and Whitney. And don't go anywhere because up next we have a guest you won't want to miss. She's going to give her professional perspective on what the judges are really looking for in the ballro. It's two time champion Jenna Johnson Chermofsky. Dang it. Jenna Johnson. Chmerscofsky. Keep it in. Cause I don't know how to say Val's name, but I love you.

Podcast Host
Joining me now is my partner, the legendary Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
That was pretty good.
Podcast Host
Did I do okay? Yeah.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
Pronunciation.
Podcast Host
I've been struggling with it all day.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
So Val would be so proud.
Podcast Host
It's like kind of a little bit hard to get out. There's like so many different enunciations. You have to get out on that. Say it for me.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
So I know Chmerkovsky.
Podcast Host
Yeah. That just sounds good when you say it.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
It's crazy. I went from a Johnson to a Chmerkovsky really fast.
Podcast Host
Yeah.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
But I'm obsessed. I love it.
Podcast Host
What has it been like for you in general for this season? How are you feeling right now?
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
I'm feeling great. It's interesting to go from Winning to being eliminated first back to back, you know, But I think that's. It's kind of been nice because I get to watch as an outsider where I don't have this time to, like, really appreciate the show to the fullest. And especially with the hype that the show has gotten this season, it's been so magical to just see it blossom.
Podcast Host
We have to unpack a quick story, I feel like. Cause we got it. We're here together, and we gotta do it.
Bindi Irwin
Unpack it.
Podcast Host
We got along very well as partners.
Robert Herjavec
Oh, gosh.
Podcast Host
Jenna is someone that I will look at as forever friend. Like, I loved what we built on the show together in terms of a friendship. But can we talk a little bit about how stressed we were going into the finale?
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
Joseph and I didn't ever fight. We were pretty good. Yeah. We saw eye to eye the whole season. Tarzan dance. There was, like, a little stress ball change for us.
Robert Herjavec
Yeah.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
But finale week, here's the thing. I. Low key had bronchitis.
Podcast Host
You were dying.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
You were moving. Trying to figure out where you were gonna live with Kelsey.
Podcast Host
Well, that was important.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
We were trying to find the best freestyle song concept, everything. And we had this. I think it was like a Wednesday rehearsal. And we got into it.
Bindi Irwin
I was sobbing.
Podcast Host
The emotions came into play. Jenna was sick. She was mad that she was sick. We had to learn a full new hour. Like a whole minute and 30 cha cha on top of a freestyle. And it was a full new dance.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
But to be honest, too, like, I also just felt the pressure. I knew. I knew that you had it in you to win. And I did not want to let you down or this opportunity down. And so I was feeling all of the emotions. I was exhausted. I also hadn't seen my baby or put him to sleep in, like, weeks. And so I was feeling this mom guilt. And all of it hit me in this moment. And we were sitting in Studio 5, I'll never forget.
Bindi Irwin
And I just.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
My eyes start watering up. And I was. You were like, saying, you don't know how you're gonna move. And I was like, you're not gonna figure out how you're gonna move.
Bindi Irwin
I haven't put my son to sleep.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
And I don't feel like you're present. And you were like, I'm gonna have.
Bindi Irwin
To defend myself on this one.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
And it's my favorite line, like, Val. And I quote that to each other still because it was so genuine. Joey, like, you weren't defensive. You were just like, I hear you, but I'm gonna Have to defend myself on this one.
Bindi Irwin
That was our biggest fight. It was incredible.
Podcast Host
I just was like, yeah, up to me all the time. And I love that he, like, even uses it in arguments now. I think it's hysterical. But, yeah, it's that moment of, like, I promise, I'm all in. We've been here for eight hours a day. Like, I'm here. I'm just letting you know what's going on outside my life. I have to figure out where I'm living in a.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
Just hold me. I apologize publicly. Like, let's put it on the record.
Podcast Host
I apologize. You had bronchitis during the finale.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
It was not my best moment.
Podcast Host
Well, sorry it all worked out.
Arc Raiders Announcer
Yeah, we got.
Podcast Host
We got this right here. So it's all good.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
I love it.
Podcast Host
Well, I love having you here, and one of the reasons we have you here is because you are a pro. You have this ability to give really good expertise on this advice for these contestants. What the judges are saying, kind of elaborate a little more. So if it's okay with you, I would love to go over every performance tonight and just give some of your thoughts and kind of what you saw the judges talking about and maybe things you thought they're doing really well throughout this whole season.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
Love it. Let's just do it.
Podcast Host
Let's do it. We're going to start with the first performance of the night. Andy and Emma. Y' all love Andy and Emma.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
I just do. There's something so magical about them. I just have to shout out Emma first. I think that she is so in her niche and in her bag, and there's nobody that can do it like her. She really puts her partners first, so I just have to give a big shout out to her. This also season reminds me of her first season with Bill Ingbaugh, and they made it all the way to the finale. And. And it's just. She just knows what she's doing with a certain partner. But Andy, for me, this was the most amount of steps that he has done, and I love that he really pushed himself for that. Was it off timing a little bit here and there? Yes. But the judges asked for more content, and he delivered. So for me, I love that that's pushing the envelope. That's growth and then. And, you know, obviously certain things like chest and a little hip action we can develop. But for me, Andy shines in frame, and I think those ballroom dances are where he can really just focus on that strong frame and then his footwork and soaring through that. So I can't Wait to see what Emma does next with him. They are just light every time they take the stage. They are just joy. They are light. It is the epitome of what Dancing with the stars is about 100%.
Podcast Host
I can't wait for Nandy, Emma dance. I just love them every single time.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
At this rate, like, Andy's going to the finale and I'm. I'm here for it.
Podcast Host
Hey, I'm on the Andy train, as everyone I think is too. How about Robert and Whitney?
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
Oh, my goodness. Don't even get me started. I think also just being a boy mom, like, I was so in my feels, but Robert is so special and so magical. He has this unique authenticity about his dancing where it's. You can tell that he doesn't have dance training. So there's this, like. I don't want to say awkwardness, because that's not the correct word for it, but there's this, like, beautiful genuineness about the way that he goes for things. And it reminds me a lot of you where you would just commit. And that was so real and raw that people. It resonated with people to, like, see you really go for it. And tonight with contemporary. First of all, bare feet is vulnerable in the ballroom. Like, let's just talk about it. It's scary, you know, and he was doing floor work. He was doing contractions. He had breath to his movement. And I think that's my favorite thing about Robert's dancing. He has this natural breath that you cannot teach that you either have it. And Whitney's obviously a brilliant choreographer, brilliant teacher, and she's developed that and pushed it out of him. So, like, the contractions that he does and when he was on the ground, that evokes emotion that translates. But he had pointed toes. His little biscuits were pointed.
Podcast Host
Don't forget those biscuits have been pointing since week one when he jumped over top of Whitney. Pointed biscuits. Immediately. Yes, dude points his toes.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
He does. And he was just doing jumps. He was doing leaps. I also love that they didn't just resort to doing lifts the whole time. They did a couple of really gorgeous, controlled lifts, but she was like, let's have you dance, Robert. And he did. I can't wait to see where he develops from here. Like, I want to see Robert on Broadway.
Podcast Host
Yeah, there's a chance. I mean, he's got things to do. He has to save the world because he does some very important things. But Broadway works out. I can see it. Elaine and Alan.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
Elaine is one of my favorite celebrities that's ever been Casted. I just adore her. And her dancing is exquisite. Something that Elaine has a quality. My favorite part about her dancing are her arms and her fingers. She has this just, like, breath and then this other little thing. I want people to go back and watch it, but she does this flick of her chin, and it just finishes the movement and gives a little dynamic shift or accent. It is. It's magical to watch. And I love the way that her face lights up like she is a true performer.
Podcast Host
Performer through and through.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
I. I love that. And for me, I felt like this was actually one of her best dances.
Podcast Host
I agree.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
So I'm a little shocked at the scoring. Um, I. I love the notes that they gave her, the critiques, but I thought she deserved at least all eights, maybe even a nine. Yeah, but that's just me. Maybe I missed something. I was just obsessed with her face, her arms, her frame. She didn't miss one step. Um, but I feel like she's a fighter. Like, she has that type of energy to her. So if anything, I think tonight's gonna ignite a fire inside of her, and I think she's gon swinging this next.
Podcast Host
Week, and I do want to touch that. Alan had the most dynamic trio idea for this week, and I thought it was so cool to see how he incorporated it. I thought that was amazing.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
It felt like trio night.
Podcast Host
I know.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
And I'm sad that you were never part of trio night.
Podcast Host
I know it's trio night.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
I know I told you so badly how fun it would have been if we could have done it.
Podcast Host
I know.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
But it really felt like trio night. And can we give some props to Lisa?
Podcast Host
What she to learn in that? Like, I'm sure it was like a few days. Like, that's crazy. And I'm a. I told you this earlier. I'm a parent kid through and through, so that was. That was special for me.
Robert Herjavec
I was.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
And we had, like, the whole acting cast in the audience.
Podcast Host
Dennis Quaid was here. It was crazy anyway that I love Parent Trap. So we got to move on, cuz I will talk about Parent Trap if we don't. Whitney and Mark love big.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
Her husband Connor is my spirit animal. Like, we need to protect this man at all costs.
Podcast Host
It's like the. The most golden retriever energy possible.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
He just loves her so much, and it was so fun. Anyway, we'll get into the dancing.
Robert Herjavec
But.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
But I love that he fully embraced Dancing with the Stars this week and went contemporary nation. Like, hold on.
Podcast Host
He didn't just in that way. The dude had a spray tan, he got a pedicure and there was a little, you might look for it, there might be a little shine on the ballroom floor. When he was moving around, that dude was. He was ballroomed up for this dance.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
Just absolutely obsessed with him.
Podcast Host
It's amazing.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
Just so cute. A supportive husband. We live for that. But Whitney and Mark, Whitney in general, such a gorgeous dancer. It's really fun to see her live out her dreams on the floor. Obviously she's got those pointed feet, those knees were straight in all of her lines. She has breath. My favorite quality of Whitney's is her focus. And we talked about this a lot during our season, like how important that eye contact is because that is what connects with the viewers at home. And she is so committed with her focuses. Whether it's with her partner, with Mark, with Connor, with the judges, with the camera, she finds it. And I think that's why it's so captivating to watch. I also, you know, for me in general, when I'm creating or choreographing, the one thing that I think about that's most important for me is the story is the intention, the story. And what that does for the viewer at home. That emotion that they're gonna feel, their piece was that it was pure emotion. It was a story. You felt it. It was like tangible in the room. I just, I loved it.
Podcast Host
That's one of the biggest things I take from their dances every week is I have never left being like, wow. I felt something like immediately. And that comes from how powerful she dances every single time.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
I think, I can't. I wanna see more of her frame dances.
Podcast Host
Yeah.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
I feel like she thrives when she can be like side by side and like doing this, you know, really sassy. But I think we've only seen a tango from them so far. I really can't wait to see more of their frame dances and to see her commit full heartedly in that frame. Traveling, moving, you know? You know what I mean? So I can't wait to see where they go.
Bindi Irwin
They're.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
They're an unstoppable couple for sure.
Podcast Host
How about Jen and Yawn?
Robert Herjavec
Ugh.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
The mom.
Podcast Host
Amazing.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
I can't. It was so beautiful. So, so beautiful. And I know it's been a tough week for them. I think Jen was s.
Bindi Irwin
It's.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
It's beautiful to see Jen's journey and I feel like she has grown and she's continuing to grow and I love that as a student again. That's part of like the dancing with the Stars journey. I think frame scares the both of them, you know, and I think there's a comfortability when they get to be open and dancing and lifting, which I know is Yan's specialty. So I. I hope that they take on the challenge of nailing frame.
Podcast Host
The women have all the accents in those dances, and I think it's a very hard position for them to be in. A lot.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
It is. But I think, too, something that Jen, such a beautiful quality to her is her face is a Disney princess.
Bindi Irwin
100%.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
She is so expressive with her face and with her mom tonight, I think that's where they thrive, you know? And so I love her as a performer. Absolutely adore her as a performer.
Robert Herjavec
Awesome.
Podcast Host
Well, what do we think about Dylan and Daniella? The highest score of the night.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
This was their best dance. Yeah, by far their best dance. Obviously, Dani, she's my work wife. I'm obsessed with her. I think she does such a great job choreographing for her partners. And this was a moment for them. This was that, like, they had one of the dances of the night, you know, And I think he deserved all of those nines. I. I was interested to see before coming in tonight. I was like, are they just gonna do lifts? Cause he's strong and we haven't. They haven't had a chance to do lifts yet. I loved that again, like, Robert, he was moving, and that moment that he did, like, the thrash. Thrash, I was like, Dylan, full commit.
Bindi Irwin
Yes. I love.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
So I loved seeing that, like, freedom, a little bit of wildness from him. And maybe the.
Arc Raiders Announcer
That's.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
He felt a bit more comfortable not having to be so structured. And Olivia, the little girl, oh, my.
Podcast Host
Gosh, the pointed toes also on her.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
Her feet were perfect. She's the next star. Her hands, I mean, her little baby kitten heel, I could not even deal. And then to just see their relationship and the way he was hugging her, I was like, Dylan, you have our hearts. You have our hearts.
Podcast Host
That was really, really special. Going on to the next dance, we have Jordan and Ezra.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
Okay, can we give it up for Jordan's dad?
Podcast Host
I mean, he was sensational.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
He learned a whole dance and was wearing a salmon suit with salmon shoes.
Podcast Host
You look good.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
I couldn't get over it. That man's. I mean, all tense for me.
Podcast Host
Hey, hey, we'll give it to him.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
And I just have to give both Jordan and Ezra props for this dance because, like, Elaine and Alan, I really feel like they took that challenge and incorporated the. This person into the routine. He was Dancing like, a box step. He was doing a rotation with her. That is so hard to do, and I just love seeing their relationship. You could tell that Jordan was, like, there was a softness to her today. And I think having that safe person with you on the dance floor, like, brought it out of her. Something that I love about Jordan's dancing is she finishes every move, and maybe it's that gymnastics training, but I really feel she finishes. She also has this nice breath to her head and to her upper body, and maybe that's from, like, sticking it at the end of her routines. She just has such a beautiful quality to her dancing. But it was fun to see the softness, you know, and not just like, everything's perfect, but I felt like there was this genuine connection with her, the audience, Ezra, her dad. I loved it, and I just. Props to Ezra. Great choreography. Great job. You did it. You nailed it.
Podcast Host
It was a very bold move by him, but I could tell he was enjoying the idea of, like, this is their moment. I'm gonna let them have their moment. How about Scott and Riley?
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
I have to say that Scott's frame was so much better. It would, like. He really was lifting that left elbow, which I felt like in the past weeks had kind of dropped. He really nailed it for me, and I feel like, too, he was capturing the essence of foxtrot and, like, the rise and fall of it. Also, them having a baby, like, I just cannot. I remember when we were in New York for the GMA announcement, he and Mark had told me that they were, like, waiting for their results, and I'm just. I'm so happy again. It's like, when you're emotional with your partner on the floor, it brings out a different side of you. For me, moving forward, I'd love to see Scott, like, get a bit wild.
Podcast Host
Yeah.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
You know, he's so on the. On his foot and everything, but I want to see a bit more, like.
Podcast Host
Tenacity, a little extra something.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
Yes. Because I know it's in there. He is so funny. He's so sassy. I'm. He is one of my favorite people.
Podcast Host
He's amazing.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
Oh, my God.
Podcast Host
Also, we can talk about Mark, his partner, forever, because he's the kindest person that ever existed in the face of humankind.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
The absolute kindest human.
Podcast Host
He's, like, so sweet. I met him this year, like, a couple months ago. I feel like I've known him my entire life.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
I told somebody I think he's like a human version of a Disney princess. Like, he just is that. He is like, he's like bindi Irwin. It's like bindy. They just have a quality about them.
Podcast Host
How about Danielle and pasha?
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
Oh, Danielle again. One of my, like, favorite celebrities on the show. They all are so good. Cheese. But I loved her performance tonight. I do have to say I think she was a little nervous. The jive is hard. It's a lot of steps. I feel like we also had a moment during your jive week.
Podcast Host
Fully messed up.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
We were just stressed. There's so it's quick paced, a lot of steps and if you miss one beat, you're off. I did feel like, though I was a little confused because I thought Pasha orchestrated a great routine. I think there was all jive content.
Podcast Host
It was almost like too much jive content. I was like. It was. So much was happening. He did it amazing with it.
Ford BlueCruise Announcer
Yes.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
I love that about Pasha. Like, he sticks to the script. He is not going to not give you true content in each ballroom style. So I appreciate that so much about him and that he challenges his partners to do it. So I thought Danielle did it.
Kim Johnson
But.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
I just something that I adore about her, similar to Robert, there is just this, like, I don't. Uniqueness, genuineness. It's like almost innocence. Her face, the way that she lights up. I love watching her perform. It's just so genuine and so I feel. And two, I think she has the ability to go to the finale. Like she. Each week for me grows. I see her get better. I see her do harder steps. So I'm rooting for them. I really adore them as a couple. And yeah, I can't wait to see what they do next.
Podcast Host
And then last but not least, Alex and Val.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
Their best dance.
Podcast Host
I agree. I think it was fully. To see what it came to was amazing.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
I love that. Again, this might be biased, I don't.
Bindi Irwin
Know.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
But I love that Alex is tapping into the different sides of her and she's willing to. You know, I think that she could come in and be closed off if she wanted to, but she's not. I think the fact that she went from maleficent last week to then a vulnerable emotional piece this week, contemporary. The way that she was using her contraction. And I was so glad that Derek mentioned that that's a quality. She had this like airiness, breathness. She was a little bit wild with it and I loved it. And I know that she was challenged with this dance this week and she delivered, I think, too, just from watching them. She is a game time player.
Podcast Host
I was gonna say that I'VE solved some of her original. Like, I saw blocking. I saw dress. There was a different energy in that actual performance in the.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
Very similar to you, Joey. She shows up. Game time.
Podcast Host
Yeah.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
And I. I just love that. And it's been so beautiful to see Val inspired with choreography and moves that he wants to do different creatives for her. Like, it's. I. I love their partnership. I think she is just soaring, and I think that this is her. You know, it is that. It's that climb. So I'm excited to see what they do next. Um, tonight, for me, was their best answer.
Podcast Host
I have to agree. I can't wait to see what comes. And thank you for being here. Jenna. Not only did I miss you, but I love talking to you about dance. I feel like you have such a very. I don't know, the way you can talk about this stuff is just different. So I appreciate.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
I'm a dance geek.
Podcast Host
You. You love.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
I love dance.
Podcast Host
But you. I love dance. You made me a dance geek now as a part two.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
Oh, I did.
Podcast Host
But thank you for coming. Really appreciate it.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
Thank you for having me.
Podcast Host
All right, guys, up next is our guest judge tonight, Kim Johnson. And she brought someone special with her. Her partner in life and the dance floor, Shark Tank's Robert Herjavec. You might know something about finding someone on the dance floor as your partner, don't you?
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
I know a thing or two about that.
Podcast Host
That's coming up, guys, right after this.

Most people come into this competition hoping that they might win a mirrorball trip. But my next guest got a little more than that when they found their soulmates instead. Please welcome tonight's guest judge, Kim johnson, and her season 20 partner, and now husband, Robert herjavec. Hi, Kim. Hi, Robert. How are we doing?
Kim Johnson
Great. How are you?
Podcast Host
I'm doing great. I'm glad you guys are here. Kim, I have to start with you because you were an amazing guest judge tonight. How was it being in that position? Yeah. Give her all the love. Amazing. Amazing.
Kim Johnson
It was so fun being back in the ballroom. It does. Everyone says this, but it does feel like coming home.
Bindi Irwin
Yeah.
Kim Johnson
That's a special thing about the show. It was obviously different being on that side of the desk, But I loved it, and I loved the judges. They were, you know, really supportive and great. And, I mean, the standard this season is so high.
Podcast Host
Unreal.
Kim Johnson
I feel like we could be giving 10 already, you know, But I guess you've got to have somewhere to go. But, yeah, it was. The standard's incredible. And I love all the dances.
Podcast Host
Well, and I love when past pros come on as judges because what you guys do such a great job at is giving advice that you can use later on, like, thinking of those moments of, like, I know I'm never doing this style again, so trying to have something that you can build off. You did so great at that.
Kim Johnson
My pen thing.
Podcast Host
Amazing.
Kim Johnson
I feel like that can help, you know, in future dances and other little tips to. Yeah. Help them in other dances.
Podcast Host
You were great at it. So it was. It was very obvious. They even said, like, I think danny, pasha, Danielle and pasha had, like, a light bulb and, like, oh, that's gonna actually work. Like, that tip's gonna be awesome. Awesome for him.
Kim Johnson
So all good.
Podcast Host
Well, Robert, being back in the ballroom.
Robert Herjavec
Given those kind of tips, it's very bittersweet. I feel like I could have won. We're gonna talk about that.
Podcast Host
Anyway, how does it feel being back in the ballroom for you tonight?
Robert Herjavec
Energy, the excitement of the show. After 34 seasons, it's on fire. It's incredible. 34 seasons, the ratings go up. What did I hear? 50 million.
Podcast Host
Unbelievable.
Robert Herjavec
It's unbelievable. The show is great.
Podcast Host
It seems like it's booming. I mean, you guys are on when it was at a huge time. But what is it like to see it still be this big right now?
Kim Johnson
Well, it's different now, isn't it, because of social media, and it's just this new generation now that have found the show, and it's, like, re Energized.
Robert Herjavec
I was running on newport boardwalk, and these young girls came up to me and started running with me for a little bit, and, like, oh, we Love Shark Tank. Hey, can we ask you about Dancing with the Stars?
Kim Johnson
You haven't been on for ages, man.
Robert Herjavec
Been on forever.
Podcast Host
Well, there's a big part about you guys being on the show. You didn't just dance. I think it's so unbelievable that this is how you guys found each other. The fact that you got not only an amazing experience, but a relationship out of it. You guys are now married. You have two kids. What is that like to have this experience with them in the ballroom tonight too? And being able to watch it and see their mom as a judge, it's.
Robert Herjavec
So special because when they were little, they didn't understand. They weren't cognizant. But to see their mom, and she looks so beautiful tonight. And judging, I mean, it's overwhelming for them. It's something they'll remember.
Kim Johnson
Although our kids think that Robert and I are both dancers because they watch YouTube clips about especially our first dance. We like that one.
Podcast Host
Yeah.
Kim Johnson
And they just. They think Robert's a dancer.
Robert Herjavec
They think I'm a professional.
Podcast Host
That must mean you looked really good, Robert.
Bindi Irwin
Well, that's the thing.
Podcast Host
I don't know if I should be.
Kim Johnson
Offended by that or. That was a good dance.
Podcast Host
I was gonna ask if they knew how you guys met. Did they know that. Was that you met on the show? Are they starting to figure that out?
State Farm Announcer
Out?
Robert Herjavec
Well, they're seven, so the whole concept of time, like, I lied to them the other day. They said, daddy, how old are you? And I said, I'm 21.
Podcast Host
Hey. And they're like, oh.
Robert Herjavec
So they believe that.
Podcast Host
I would believe it, Robert. I'd believe it. But I love that you guys met on a show. Funny enough, I don't know if you know, I was on a Bachelor, so I.
Bindi Irwin
What?
Podcast Host
I was. I was the Bachelor. I found my fiance.
Robert Herjavec
You were on the Bachelor or the Golden Bachelor?
Podcast Host
I was. You know, we're gonna really get. Age is gonna to get confused now if you start thinking that. But I was. I was on the Bachelor. I met my beautiful fiance.
Kim Johnson
I watched that season.
Podcast Host
Oh, you did? You look great.
Kim Johnson
My mom's a big tennis fan, so she watched the season two.
Podcast Host
I love it.
Kim Johnson
She was quite taken by you.
Podcast Host
Yes, but I know it's crazy to, like, find love on a show. Like, it's. It's different. What was that like for you guys? Having this budding romance in the middle of a dance competition?
Bindi Irwin
Hmm.
Kim Johnson
Well, we didn't go into it looking for that, but I think the casting director, she obviously knows the prose very well. She knew That I was single and Robert was single, too. So I don't know if she was playing cupid there, but maybe. I don't know. We ended up together, and it's. I mean, it took a while. You asked me on a date. You know, you were in the studio. We hadn't been on a date on our own. Like, we'd been out for dinner with groups of people, and I remember you asked me in rehearsals, do you want to go for dinner tonight? And I said yes, like, on the spot. And then we were rehearsing, and I was like, oh, I can't cross that line. And so at the end of rehearsal.
Robert Herjavec
And I went away, and I planned this incredible dinner, and I was all ready, and I had, like, a car lined up and this really romantic thing. And for hours, you know, how long you rehearse on the show. I was, like, waiting for it. Like, let's.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
Let's go.
Robert Herjavec
And then we finished a rehearsal, and I'm like, so, I'll see you later.
Kim Johnson
And she goes, oh, about tonight. I can't make it, but, you know, I'll see you tomorrow.
Podcast Host
Oh, no.
Kim Johnson
And I just. Because I just didn't want to crash my line. So then that happened. But he was persistent, and. And then he invited me to. Your friend were renewing their wedding vows.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky
And I was like, wow, that's a serious first date.
Bindi Irwin
I'm like, whoa.
Kim Johnson
So. And we were in the car. It was like million Palm Springs. So he had me captive in a car for, like, two hours.
Robert Herjavec
In fairness, it was a Rolls Royce.
Kim Johnson
But it was kind of nice because then we got to actually talk to each other, you know, amazing out of the dance studio and get to know each other. And I was like, wow.
Robert Herjavec
Like, well, you know what it's like on the show. You're spending 10, 12 hours a day together. You really get to know someone.
Podcast Host
The good, the bad.
Kim Johnson
Yeah. And we really had this great friendship, and Robert got to sort of be in my world, and he had so much respect for what I did, and obviously, I have so much respect for him. So I think it was a great foundation. And then, you know, when the show ended, he's like, let's go to Paris. So.
Robert Herjavec
As you would.
Podcast Host
As you would.
Bindi Irwin
I know.
Kim Johnson
And then I was like. Cause I didn't want it to be a showman. So I was very. Let's just wait. And obviously, the rest is history now.
Podcast Host
But honestly, guys, to see you in the judging position, it was natural for you tonight. You were amazing to see you back in the ballroom. With your kids. It was just truly special. You were incredible. You guys. I'm so happy we got you in here. I know you have to rush out, but we really do appreciate it.
Kim Johnson
Thank you so much.
