Give me money for cigarettes I'll never leave your guilty bed I stay the night and one night be came two or three years My kids are not alright but that's okay cause no one here is take me. Every week I ask our listeners to send in voice memos telling us an embarrassing story from their past and they always pull through. So today we're gonna hear from Hannah oh, who has quite the first kiss.
Podcast Listener (Hannah)
Hi Danielle. You had your first kiss in front of a live studio audience and I had mine meticulously planned out for me. It was eighth grade, went to a small school, had a crush and my crush and I had a mutual male best friend and somehow the idea was born that my crush and I meet up and kiss. We decided that the safest place to do it was between two classrooms in what was probably supposed to be a really big shared storage closet, but it was big enough for one desk and like one teacher. One day when our after school schedules aligned, the last bell rings and of course our notes speaking to each other, even looking at each other, finally the hallways seem empty. I see my crush going towards one of the classrooms, so I go to the other one. I walk into the little storage room and close the door behind me. And he's standing across from me behind the other door. And there's a window in the door, and I'm staring at it intently to make sure that nobody comes in the room. But I also don't know what else to do. So I take a couple steps, and I put my right hand on his left shoulder, and he put his right hand on my left hip. I kind of leaned back because he was leaning forward. And we start kissing. We had no idea what we were doing. It was just full slobber. And I remember thinking, why is there so much slobber? Why is it like we are just flat out licking each other's faces? We keep kissing, and I'm really stiff, and I'm stuck in this position, and I don't want to move because if I move, it might signal to him that I want to stop. And of course I don't want to stop. My left low back starts cramping, so I have to start gripping his shoulder a little harder so that I don't lose my balance. And then my right back leg starts shaking. My body just can't take it. Eventually, we stop kissing, and I remember having to wipe the entire bottom part of my face. And sadly, he did not fall madly in love with me. We did not go on to date. I'm not even sure if we ever spoke about it again. So maybe Topanga had the right idea and I should have just shoved him up against a locker and kissed him and walked away confidently, because what I did instead was super awkward.
Danielle Fishel
Oh, my gosh. I love that back pain. It's like her number one memory from her first kiss.
It was so intricate. She understood every detail. She's like, I'm never forgetting this moment.
I'm forgetting all of these moments.
Oh, man.
You know what's so sad? I only remember my first kiss. My first kiss was on Boy Meets World. I only remember that one. I don't remember my first real life kiss at all.
I don't remember my first real life kiss. My first four were on tv. My first, very first one was on Eat Simple Rules.
Yeah.
And I remember Kaley Cuoco and Amy Davidson giving me so much good advice. And I remember at one point, I said, okay, well, I didn't know what to expect. I didn't know what kind of kiss this was. And he was a little older than me, and I was so nervous, so I just closed my teeth and I went in for the kiss. And then he made his. As far as I remember, made his tongue look like he was moving. But I said, I'll close the gates. No one can hear, and I'll just stand there.
Taco Bell Representative
I can't.
Danielle Fishel
Oh, my God. I can't.
It was awful. Can't watch it.
I had so. I mean, first of all, Ben and I spent years just kissing. There's no one in the world. Still, to this day, I think I've ever kissed more. That's so great. My husband and I have now been together eight years. Ben and I were together for seven, and then. Yeah, I'm pretty sure we're maybe about equal.
That's so funny.
And, yeah, you know, it's funny. Like, you. You get. When you first start, it's very awkward. And on tv, you know, there's stuff that happens in real life when you're not having to deal with a camera, but, like, who cares if your kisses look awkward in real life? But on tv, everything needs to look good. You don't. And I remember thinking a lot about our noses.
Oh, girls, what's.
What's happening with my side?
Like, yes.
And am I supposed to go this way, or are you gonna go that way? Yeah. And then there was one week. I had a. There was a week when Cory and Topanga were broken up, and I got to kiss another boy. It was a guest star week. And my mom was like, who's it gonna be? Who's it gonna be? Is he gonna be cute? And I was like, I hope he's so cute. And then he was, of course, so cute.
Podcast Listener (Hannah)
Of course.
Danielle Fishel
And I describe the kiss as being, like, kissing a halved tomato. It was just. Oh. And I remember immediately after the first take looking like this.
Oh, no, no.
Out toward my makeup artist, who then came on, and she was like. She gets real close to my face, and she's like, what on earth is he doing? I'm like, I don't know.
Oh, my gosh. How old are you at this point?
I was, like, 15.
Okay.
And it was just like, a full. And then it was like, okay, maybe. Maybe just that one time. And then it happened again, and it was like, need you again. Need a touch up. It was just. Yeah. Oh, TV kisses are so hard because,
like, if you didn't go through for me, I ended up leaving school in eighth grade. And, like, I had never had any, like, experience with, like, boys in real life for a while. So, like, the only experience I had was when we would maybe rehearse it. But usually you wouldn't even.
Yeah.
It would be like you'd fake rehearse. You'd be like, and then we'll kiss.
And then we kiss here.
Yeah, and then we kiss.
Haha. It'll be totally fine.
I'm not nervous.
Did you ever practice kissing, like on the back of your hand?
Yeah, but that doesn't. Oh, like, what are we doing?
What are we doing?
Like, that's not efficient. No, you do the little bit.
No, I know. Back of the hand.
What's like a kiss. Can't do that doesn't work.
I know. I think. Yeah. I'm not really sure. There's really no good way.
There's no way other than to throw yourself into it. And the first four were probably terrible. Even my husband was like, well, you didn't have a ton of stuff. Experience.
Oh my gosh.
Your husband's 15 years later. We're fine, guys. Don't worry.
You figured out how to kiss since then.
Yeah,
I do. Feel like choosing your own school as the spot for the, like the meetup adds a whole other layer. It is so hard as a kid though. You don't have your own house to go back to. You have nowhere to go for privacy.
So true. What do you.
Where do you go? You don't.
That's when you go to the Promenade or Topanga Mall or whatever. Like, that's why they would go. And that's why my parents would say, you are not going.
Not allowed.
Bowen Yang
Nope.
Danielle Fishel
I. You know, I still still spend a lot of time at the mall because I, I love it. I am very happy to see kids meet up at the mall.
Yeah, no, they're still there.
Yeah.
They're still ride their little motorbikes that they ride everywhere.
They've got their little E bikes. Very dangerous. And they're dressed exactly like we were.
Exactly.
They're wearing short tops and baggy jeans and they're holding hands and they're walking in groups. And it makes me very excited. But you're right. That is what you do. You go. You do the. You do the mall situation. Which does explain why in the family bathroom there's someone always in the. In the family bathroom with the door locked for a long time. I'm figuring it out now. We know you're kissing in there. I just figured it out. So I gotta get a little smarter before my kids get to be that age.
Right.
I can't. Take me a couple of years, two steps ahead.
I don't even know because I have no experience, remember?
I know. Yeah. Your husband had to teach you my
Husband's going to have to be the one that's ten steps ahead. Okay.
Do you think kids still have bases, like the way we used to get into first base? Second, do we. Do you think they still talk about.
You know, it's so weird. And I watch a lot of unscripted dating shows.
Kohler Ambassador
Okay.
Danielle Fishel
Dating is not dating. It's different.
Oh.
I'm looking at these young ins. And. Okay, so dating now is like, essentially, if we were, like, in a relationship, that's what they call dating, really. Like, we're not even date. Like, dating growing up was like, we're going to go on some dates and we're going to start dating each other.
Yes.
Now it's like, if you're dating, you're coupled up, you're like, kind of, like, together in a weird way. Like, you're now dating.
Oh, am I right? Yeah.
Really?
Yeah. And so what do you call. What do they. What do the Youngs call casual dating? Oh, that's a situationship.
Right. And seeing each other would be, like, serious or not serious. Yeah, that's like, kind of situation shippy.
Okay.
Yeah. But dating is like, if you're dating, that's serious.
Right, Right. That's like a. Yeah, yeah. A big step.
That was not serious.
No, no, not when we were young. No, no, you were like, yeah, we're doing it.
I'm dating around.
Yeah, exactly. There's so many people that, like, when I look back on my time and I'll be like, yeah, I dated that guy. Yeah. And then people are like, what? No, no, I meant like, we went to Red Robin twice.
Yeah, we went on a date.
Right. That was dating. Not, like, together together.
Yes.
All right. I kind of like this for them. I know. Most people are surprised to learn what OCD really is because pop culture has spread the idea that it's just about being super neat and organized. But that's not accurate at all. My husband has ocd, and I can tell you it is so much more than that. Real OCD is a serious condition where you get unwanted, distressing thoughts called intrusive thoughts. They're stuck on repeat in your mind, often focusing on people or things we care about, like relationships, identity, or character, making them hard to ignore. And then you feel driven to do certain behaviors called compulsions to try to make the anxiety stop. This obsession and undying desire to make it go away can completely derail you for decades. Jensen ruined his own life and the happiness of those around him purely because he couldn't make the repeated worry go away. But he'd eventually learn it doesn't have to be that way because OCD is one of the most treatable mental health conditions. Once you get the right kind of specialized therapy. OCD needs ERP therapy. That's exposure and response prevention, which is proven to be the most effective treatment. Regular talk therapy isn't recommended and can actually make OCD worse. NOCD is the world's leading OCD treatment provider and all of their licensed therapists specialize in ERP therapy with NOCD is 100% virtual, covered by insurance for over 138 million Americans and includes support between sessions so you never have to face OCD alone. To learn more about starting OCD therapy with no CD, go to nocd.com and book a free call with their team. That's N O C D.com hello, it's Danielle Fishel and I am here to talk treats. everyone, it's Kal Penn. I'm the Host of Irsay The Audible and iHeart Audiobook Club. This week on the podcast, I am sitting down with Ray Porter, the narrator of Andy Weir's audiobook project, Hail Mary Massive sci fi adventure about survival and science and what happens when you wake up alone, very far from Earth.
Ray Porter
I really had to make a decision because I caught myself getting that frog in my throat and starting to get teary as I'm narrating some of these sections, and it's like, okay, yo, yo, yo, is this indulgent? And I really thought about it. I was like, no. At this point, it would kind of be betraying the trust the author and the listener have in telling this story if I don't go through it. But there's places in this book that that deeply, emotionally affected me. And I left it on the mic. That's great because it served the story. People will say, like, oh, my God, I cried at the end. It's like, yeah, dude, me too.

Hello. Hello, this is Malcolm Glebel from Smart talks with IBM. Today, we're diving into a fascinating conversation with Stefano Pollard, head of fan development for Scuderia Ferrari hp.
Stefano Pollard
Your pronunciation is strongly American. It's more Scuderia Ferrari.
Malcolm Glebel
I'm still working on rolling my R's, but what I was able to learn from Stefano was the importance of engaging the Tifosi, the Ferrari superfans in the digital age.
Stefano Pollard
Ferrari fans and superfans want to be part of something, want to belong to something. So they want to be part of a community, and ultimately they want to be part of a winning team.
Malcolm Glebel
You've got Ferrari, which has a long history, design history, and now you're interacting in a kind of digital space. I'm curious how you balance those two traditions.
Stefano Pollard
When it comes to fan engagement, it's really digital technology. And digital channels are being able to create a deeper connection with our fans.

Danielle Fishel
On your new show. Have you already found yourself developing a bit of a motherly. Oh, my gosh. Toward the girls?
Yeah, all of them. Yeah. So we all stayed in the same hotel. Okay. And I'm so glad we did, because I would get little knocks on the door. I would make, like, when people got sick, like, I, you know, would bring them a little soup or whatever. And yeah, there is something. Oh, I had Alyssa, our girl Our gorgeous redhead, amazing, gifted human being over at the house yesterday because she's a little social butterfly. Flew out from New Jersey to LA just because. And hung out with the family on Memorial Day. And then we popped by the house and helped, like say goodnight to the kids. And I'm like, this is big sis life. Like, it's different. Like, this is so good. We are so. I've got another one coming in a week. I'm like, guest room's open. I'm like, what do I do? Make a bunch of keys. Now what are we doing? This is so cute. Yeah. Yeah. I had Erica, like another, another one. Stay with me. It was, it's been so nice. And I'd see.
How old are they?
Youngest is almost 18.
Okay.
Oldest is 24.
Man, this is great.
Yeah.
Oh man.
Good people. Like, ugh, Salt of the earth, good people. Good families. Good.
Yes, Great. I mean, every time you have a show, you are involved in the whole
family, the whole thing.
It's not just the kid, it's the parents and the family and, and all of that.
And that's a big thing too because, you know, a lot of these kids that had just kind of moved out for their show for the first time, they live at home.
Yeah.
You know, I'd meet the parents and it's like I didn't. I moved out there too. So I was away from my family temporarily. And so I was always like, you know, I am a call away. Like I'm a knock away. I will, you know, we can be in touch. So I would be talking with the parents, sometimes the moms would text me. So sweet. Like, that was a really special dynamic.
I'm still in touch with all the moms of the kids from Girl Meets World too. And of course all the kids from Girl Meets World. But yeah, I mean, for me it was a little different because they were 12, 13, 14. And so it was, for me, I wanted to have both the professional boundary of you have a family and as a 30 something year old woman at the time, it's inappropriate for me to have you come stay at my house when you're 13 or 14. But I also wanted them to know I had a total open door policy and that they were welcome to come and talk to me about anything that was going on, if something was bothering them, if something was making them uncomfortable and they needed someone to speak up for them, but. And didn't feel comfortable doing it themselves. Maybe didn't want it to be their parent. Because there is of course, when you're young. That feeling of, like, I don't want my mommy to be the one to solve this for me. So letting them know that, like, I was there to be that person if they needed it. Um, and. But those. You know, the great thing about having good relationships with the people you work with is that 12 years later, I'm still in touch with those kids who are now no longer children. I know they're all in their mid to late 20s now, so hopefully you'll have the same experience. For Hollywood Arts, is the plan to have some of the original Victorious cast members swing by?
Of course. Of course.
So fun.
Yeah, I know. It's been awesome. Yeah.
How many episodes have you done?
We did 26.
Wow.
Yeah, girl. I swear, when I say it was all thanks to the Victorious fans. Like, you don't get orders like that anymore. Yeah, we've been very lucky. Netflix has been super generous and supportive, and they have the data. They know what's performing well and, like, believe in us. And the edits they've seen, they're stoked on and, like, we're just really proud of this. And I try not to, like, get too ahead of myself because I've also been on the other end of a lot of shows where it's like, you think it's a great one, and you get one season or you barely get the pilot out and you just don't know what's gonna happen, but something feels different with this. And. Yeah, I'm just, like, forever grateful for the Internet. Yes.
Thank you, Internet. I'm really excited for you. Thank you so much for spending your time with me. It was wonderful getting to chat with you.
Likewise.
It's always so fun to find someone I have so in common with, you know, like, that shared history. Like you mentioned, my husband, we went to high school together, so we have been acquaintances and friends over the years. And when we started dating, I always said to people, we. We were on a fast track because I didn't have to spend the first six months figuring out if he was a serial killer. I already knew he wasn't.
Yes.
And, like, you know, because. And I could talk to him about Dan subs and he was familiar. You know, it was like, oh, you know, Dan's great.
We can get married, albeit Juicy Ladies, but my husband will be getting a sub.
Oh, I love it. Gosh, I love a Juicy Ladies. That wasn't around when we were kids. I know, but I mean, when I was young. See, I'm. I'm older than you, but, you know, we we were very big on the fat free. We didn't know anything about sugar like
the non fat yogurts.
And you know, yogurt delight over there on shoe. That's where I went for dinner.
That yogurt delight was my ladies, by the way. That was such a thing. When I would be out in like off Laurel Canyon, we go to studio Yogurt or Humphreys like yogurt was and I hear it's coming back.
Oh, I still eat it all.
Yogurt's a thing again. Yeah. She said. Mm.
Oh yeah. Yogurt is. Yogurt's where it's at.
Yeah.
Love it. Thank you so much, Daniella for being here on the podcast and we will have to get our kids together in the 818. In this nostalgic and heartfelt episode, Danielle Fishel (best known as Topanga from Boy Meets World) brings on Daniella Monet (actor, singer, and former Victorious cast member) for a candid, lively conversation about growing up in the public eye, on-screen firsts, awkward teen moments, and the sisterhood that forms on set. The episode balances embarrassing memories, thoughtful reflections on fame's impact on adolescence, the complexities of mentorship within the industry, and a look at Daniella’s new project—Hollywood Arts, a Victorious spinoff. Listeners are in for stories both hilarious and touching, packed with the warmth and self-deprecating humor that marks Danielle's style.

This episode masterfully bridges the world of child stardom, the universality of embarrassing firsts, and the power of forming supportive, authentic connections—whether on set, at the mall, or over shared memories of yogurt shops. Danielle and Daniella’s rapport is warm and funny but also deeply insightful about growing up, both in front of the camera and behind the scenes. Fans of Boy Meets World, Victorious, or anyone who’s ever felt awkward in adolescence will find something relatable here.
