Well, I was just gonna say before we get started, Jordan told me something that he's never told me before.

I'm actually so curious what you're talking about.

He told me that in order to do this podcast and feel mentally well, he would like to take his shoes off.

[Jordan Austin]

I did say that.

And I just want everyone to know that, like, your biggest criticism and hate that we get from people online is that you always have your shoes on. Like, if you don't know this, whenever I had Stella and probably Stratton, I was in the hospital for three days, and Jordan did not take his shoes off one time. Like, he would sleep with his shoes on, which made so angry. Whenever you're, like, postpartum and hormonal and just, like, so annoyed because I was like, where are you going? Like, take your shoes off and relax. He also wears his shoes all around our house, on the bed, on the sofa, on the kid's bed. And, like, people are always like, jordan, take your shoes off. And he just came in here and said, babe, can I take my shoes off? Like, I think I would be in a better mental state if I took my shoes off. And so I just want you to know that we are all rooting for you and we would like for you to take your shoes off. Really?

Okay. Does the. Does the producer care? Approved. Okay.

Approved. Yeah. So the good news about Jordan is he also doesn't stink. Like, he has no bo. He, like, does.

He did say, I got stinkier in Nashville. I still think about that to this day.

He actually did get a little stinky in Nashville. There was like. But, you know, it's like more like the outdoor smell that, like, anybody would get. And it was more because the humidity. Oh, wait, he went socks, too. Babe, we didn't mean socks.

No, she approved.

We meant. We met. Just. We've had just the shoes.

You know, I don't want to make this, like, a deep thing, but I actually. It might be a deeper thing. So the reason I think I always wear my shoes is there's always a state of, like, preparedness or, like, seeing around the corner.

See, you are fear based.

[Jordan Austin]

No, I'm very fear based. And my nervous system is very wired to be, like, if I'm not, like, on guard all of the time, then something's going to go down and then it'll be my fault. And so there's probably Something subconscious about me always having my shoe on. Shoes on. That like, if someone breaks in, I'm like, ready to go.

[Danny Austin]

See, I've thought about it before, but I'm like, I can run around shoeless.

[Jordan Austin]

Yeah, I know, but that's just the difference between you and I is like, I feel like I always. It's the same reason I, like, you always want me to get. This is a very big thing. You always want me to get you your coffee before I shower and, like, put in my contacts and like, I'm ready. And I want you to know the mental tax that is on me.

That sacrifice you have to make right there is crazy.

[Jordan Austin]

Especially if it's like, I don't. I forget to pre make it.

[Danny Austin]

Yeah.

Then it's like, okay, I have to.

You have to do like a whole task, like.

Yes. It's like the mental load of the mornings, like, really stress me out because I feel like if I'm not prepared for it, then it's gonna like, come down on me like a tidal wave. Like, baby. Baby wakes up at 5:30. Summit Stratton. Stella will probably be up at like 6, 6:30. Danny's coffee needs to be ready by.

[Danny Austin]

It was kind of our, like, it was kind of like our agreement for like me having four children during the pregnancies. It was like, now for the rest of our lives, he will bring me

coffee in bed the morning. Stress me out more than.

[Danny Austin]

Can I tell you something? The way that you feel about your shoes is the way I feel about pants. Wearing pants in the house.

[Jordan Austin]

Really?

[Danny Austin]

Because so many times I don't want to wear my pants.

Hold on. I'm trying to keep up with the analogy.

Well, no, let me just. I'll explain it to you. So just like, there's so many times I don't want to wear pants. You know, Like, I'm just like, really not. I'm not really into like the things touching my stomach and squeezing them, you know, maybe because it's like the one area I'm like, you know, I just. I feel like a pant just really highlights that. That fupa for me. And so I, like, so many times I'm like, I don't really want to be wearing pants, but I'm like, you know what? I need to be prepared.

[Jordan Austin]

Just the pants on. No shoes.

[Danny Austin]

No shoes, no bras, no plants. But I do need to have pants on as much as I don't want to.

That's your symbol to yourself that you're

ready If I have pants on, like, I can conquer the world now. Now, the worst is whenever a guy comes over and you don't have a bra on. Ugh. Ugh. The mental load I'm taking on right there. I'm telling you. Or, like, I have to walk to the door, and there's a man at the door, like, you know, some. Somebody dropping off a package or something, and I have to, like, do the little, you know, shrug my shoulders and cover. Cover my nipples. Sometimes, though, I will say, towards the end of Dallas, I was just like. I just let it hang. I was like, I'm never gonna see you guys again.

[Jordan Austin]

We lived in pretty much a glass house, and you're just basically walking around naked.

[Danny Austin]

Yeah. So how does it feel right now to not have shoes on?

[Jordan Austin]

Well, we got some, like.

[Danny Austin]

He also has very pretty toes.

And I got this, like, call. It doesn't matter what it was, but it was just like, oh, man. And so the reason I wanted to take my shoes off was it's actually a very symbolic sign of surrender.

I'm grounding. I said to myself. I was like, you know what? The way I can, like, be optimistic in myself is to surrender and take my shoes off.

And is it giving everything you thought it would?

Yeah. It's also a really nice rug.

Good. I'm so happy for you. Maybe you should take your shoes off more often.

Honestly, that's what I realized when you started talking about this. I was like, that is maybe a form of surrender.

Yeah.

Yeah. Because, you know, Jordan is kind of that guy.

He will carry the weight of the world and people's feelings and, like, I have no idea that someone's upset or overwhelmed. And Jordan will be like, yeah, I think that that's a lot for them. Like, well, why didn't they just say something? Like, he's always worried about people's feelings and stuff.

Yeah.

[Danny Austin]

Crazy.

Yeah.

But it's. It's because you're such an empath.

Yeah. Let them.

Let them. Oh, my gosh. That's hilarious. I tried to explain the. The let them theory to Stella, who's five years old yesterday, and she was like. Because Stratton is, like, so like, annoys her so much. And Stratton is constantly just, like, singing songs, like, you know, tapping things. There's constantly moving, very hyperactive. And I'm like, stella, have you ever heard the let them theory? And she's like, huh? So I explain it to her. So she looks at Strut and she goes, okay, let them. And he doesn't stop. And she goes, mom, it's not working. He's not stopping. And I said, no. The whole thing is like, you just have to let him do his thing and you have to find your own peace. And she's, like, just dying, laughing, like, it's like grabbing her forehead, like, so confused and so angry because she doesn't understand the let them theory. I'm like, it is kind of a flawed theory for, like, children.

[Jordan Austin]

Yeah. No.

[Danny Austin]

In parenting. But. So, yeah, we had a. What were you going to say before I cut you off?

[Jordan Austin]

I was going to say everything.

[Danny Austin]

I said, okay.

[Jordan Austin]

Just the epiphany.

[Danny Austin]

Yeah. I mean, we have had kind of like a little. I wouldn't say stressful last couple of days, but just it feels like.

[Jordan Austin]

It feels like punishment for the great days we had in Costa Rica.

[Danny Austin]

Oh, see, you would see it like that. I view it as, like. It's like daylight savings. Like, you know what I just realized about myself? It's like, our flight got canceled. And I was kind of like, yay,

[Jordan Austin]

I saw it in your eyes.

[Danny Austin]

I was like, this is when I come alive. And I'm like, we get to go find a hotel. We get a free $15 breakfast voucher. I was like, let's just, like, take this inconvenience and just grab it by the nuts. I was, like, so happy about the flight cancellation, and people get so annoyed by. You know what I get annoyed by? Like, what actually would have ruined my day was if somebody told me that the flight was canceled. And then they were rude to me. But she was so nice about it. I was like, this is a lovely flight cancellation. I couldn't be happier. I get to spend more time with my. I get to take a leadership role. You know, I love that. Sometimes I just. I just get to, like, kind of, like, you know, Monday morning quarterback a little bit. I'm like, guys, I got this. I'm like, I didn't plan any of the travel, and I didn't do anything. I packed the bags. I was like, really? I did do all the packing, but I get to come in and be like, I got this.

[Jordan Austin]

Yeah.

[Danny Austin]

Especially because it was, like, late at night. It was like 10:30 with all the kids, and I'm like, oh, we're gonna stay up all night and sleep in tomorrow. Like, so. Yeah, basically what happened was we went to Costa Rica. We'll recap that tr. Because it was fabulous. It was one of the best trips we've ever taken in our lives. But on the way home, it's already kind of like a crazy flight experience getting there. It's three different flights, and we left at 2.

[Jordan Austin]

That was the only, like. So we knew we were already going to get home at midnight.

[Danny Austin]

So you have to take, like, a small plane from where we were, like, we were up in, like, the tropical forest to just get down to, like, San Jose, which is, like, the main, you know, airport. So that was one flight. And then we had to get on a flight from San Jose to Charlotte,

[Jordan Austin]

which is four and a half hours.

[Danny Austin]

Which is four and a half hours. So that. That's kind of already, like, pretty tough with all, like, the four children, like, five and under. And then we connected in Charlotte to Nashville. We were supposed to. So after we got off the flight in Charlotte, we were supposed to hop on, like, a flight. I think it Left@, like, 11 or so to Nashville. 11pm to Nashville. And so we're all kind of already on the verge of, like, you know, breakdown. We pulled out the iPads at this point. This is like, when you pull up the iPads, and so we're, like, about to get on this, and they're like, yes, no, your flight's canceled. So then, you know, Danny Austin, the quarterback, stepped in. I'm just kidding. Jordan did everything. No. And so we found a hotel to stay in. We got two different Ubers for all of our luggage. I was in.

You're skipping so much of this story.

[Danny Austin]

Okay, I'm sorry.

[Jordan Austin]

Okay. First of all, I should have known. I knew landing in Charlotte, I was never going to get out of Charlotte.

[Danny Austin]

Jordan has.

[Jordan Austin]

Charlotte is now on my no Fly List. Four times I have been stuck at this airport. One time I showed up, they accidentally gave away my rental car to drive, like, three hours. So I never got out of there. One time. The third time, they opened up my suitcase and only stole my shoes.

[Danny Austin]

Well, they were Travis Scott's.

[Jordan Austin]

They were Travis Scott's. But, like, in. In Charlotte, like, who steals shoes? And then the fourth time, we land with four children, I knew that we weren't going to get out. So there's that part of the story that Charlotte is cursed for me for whatever reason. The second part of the story is you act like, we just got a hotel. No, I had to save Dani from herself because she. She was about. Okay. So we get up to the counter, the line's out the door because everyone is grounded. It was one of those days where, like, hundreds of flights got canceled, like, thousands. So all of the hotel rooms that, like, American is gonna offer are basically, like, booked up. So. And listen, totally fine, totally fine.

[Danny Austin]

But, like, your dad works for.

[Jordan Austin]

There's a. There's a hotel chain, you might have heard of it, called Ramada Inn.

[Danny Austin]

I actually.

[Jordan Austin]

I've never been there. I've never stayed there. I'm sure it's a. It's a nice place. I'm not even commenting that the voucher was for the Ramada Inn. They wanted to give six of us. Seven of us.

[Danny Austin]

Seven of us.

[Jordan Austin]

7 of us. Hotel room. Two hotel rooms.

[Danny Austin]

No, babe. One hotel room.

[Jordan Austin]

One hotel room.

[Danny Austin]

No, they did not give us two hotel rooms. They said at the end they could only give us one hotel room with one $15 voucher for breakfast the next morning.

So Danny and I was like, this

is gonna be so.

No, Danny was like, in her, like, quarterback high, where she's like, okay, I'll figure this out. We're gonna get a good deal.

I'm like, hey, give me two and I'll go.

[Jordan Austin]

You were like. You were like, babe, should we stay at the La Quinta or should we stay at the Ramada Inn? The Ramada Inn has a restaurant. I think we should go to the Ramada Inn. I was like, wait, hold up.

[Danny Austin]

But I was like, no, but I was like, but the La Quinta has a shovel. Shuttle with no restaurant. I was like, so what do we want?

[Jordan Austin]

It's also shuttle.

[Danny Austin]

The restaurant.

It's also 11 o' clock at night. No restaurant's going to be open at any of these hotels. And so, you know, I just feel like you skipped that part of the story where I had to intervene and

be like, we're not staying in one room altogether.

[Jordan Austin]

Yeah, no, that would be crazy.

[Danny Austin]

Yeah, it was because we also had Brenda with us.

[Jordan Austin]

We almost drove.

[Danny Austin]

We almost drove, but then they told us that it was going to be really hard to get a rental car. And they said not to tell the rental car company that we were going to drive it one way because then they wouldn't give it to us.

So anyway, we found a different hotel, we paid for it on our own dime, and then found a different flight. And you know what? It's all good. I do tend to not. Not to be that like, not to be that, like, optimistic person.

[Jordan Austin]

No, you are. You are.

But I do feel like you had a great attitude.

[Jordan Austin]

You could have totally been sort of an anchor on all of us. Like, you being a bad mood, being like, we're all tired. But you were great.

[Danny Austin]

Oh, yeah. No, because I love it.

You were alive.

[Danny Austin]

Yeah, I was alive. And I also had to get to, like, a CVS before 11 o', clock, like, when they closed, to get Tylenol for the kids. And I was like, me and this Uber driver, we were like. It was like we were on the Amazing Race. And that's why I would kill on the Amazing Race is because I can buddy up with anyone. And, like, basically, he felt like he was getting Tylenol for his own children. By the end of it, like, him and I were just like. We were like, we're gonna figure the city out. Because all the CVs in Walgreens were, like, closing. So anyway, I did find last minute, I had to have, like, a Uber delivery. Uber eats. And so she delivered, like, infant and children's Tylenol to me. Like, y'.

I have never smelled so much weed in my life. Like, literally, I didn't even give the kids the Tylenol because it's. The Tylenol alone smelled like weed. Like, it was so bad.

I'm so confused. I was talking with one of the producers before we started this episode, and I'm so confused, because Charlotte is the city where they recruit for all of, like, Love Is Blind is recruited from Charlotte. So there's all these, like, cool.

So I have A very strong confusion with Charlotte because people love it, like, young people.

You know, it's like a thriving community. A lot of business people move to Singapore. Now, the prime minister that's famous for Singapore is Lee Kuan Yew.

We need to, like, really start, like, a campaign. Airports matter. Yeah. So that happened. But we did make it back, and I'm, like, a little sleepy. Well, okay, so the hardest part about making it back after, like, 30 hours of travel Is that, like, life just goes on, you know, and that's always what always bit me in the butt about, like, you know, trying to live in the moment is that, like, life does go on. And so. And that happened to me so many times because, like, I was like the girl that was like, you know what? I'm just gonna stay at the bar a little bit longer. And then the next morning, it's like, you still have to go to work. That's how it is. Especially when you have kids, too. So you don't really sleep much. And the life goes on. So we landed back in Nashville. And the next morning, which is today, I had to wake up and go do a news segment for the local news.

Do you ever wish that you were married to someone like you?

Not to keep talking about this experience, but okay. Do you remember we were standing in the American Airlines line and we had just realized that our camp. The flight was canceled.

And there was this kind of like, tall, semi good looking dude who walked up.

Like, very Nashville. But then he walked up, so Danny's like, already on her high. She's like, this is awesome. Like, we have no idea.

Like, hey, where are you guys headed? Like, what's happening?

This guy walks up and he's like, hey. He's like, my phone's dead. He's like, why are we all standing in this line? And they were like, we were like, oh, the flights cancel. He's like, to Nashville. And he's like, oh, man, I don't know what I'm going to do. My phone's dead. And you loved helping him. You were like, no, don't worry, I got it.

And sometimes I think about it. I'm like, if you were married to someone like that who was like you, that was like, we'll figure it out. Like, what would things look like? And do you prefer that? Or is it like, we balance each other out so well?

I don't prefer that. Sometimes I do feel like I'm like, come on, Jordan, just live a little. But I usually tell you in the moment. I'm like, take your shoes off. Feel the carpet. Yeah.

You know, like, I'm just like. Like, I want you to still enjoy life because, like, sometimes, like, Jordan's always so worried about the babysitter, and I'm like, she's fine. Like, she'll call you if she needs something. And he's, like, checking in with her all the time, and I'm like, they're okay. Like, they're. They're like adults. They can handle themselves. They'll tell you.

But then. But then. I get it. But then our babysitter cancels on us today and, like, decides to move on to another family. And I'm like, I think it's cause our kids are too.

I think our kids were too much for her, so.

But I. I agree with you. I just was thinking about that because I wouldn't want to be married to someone like me.

I know. I think that you might be happier than a fear based person.

I really think that dumb, fearless people are happier in life.

Well, I was really worried. I get very worried about the kids, like, health.

I was really worried about the suitcases being unpacked when we got home because that was like, a lot. You know, it's like, I don't like to have, like, all this, like, mess around. I like to have everything, like, pretty.

No, I just. I get it. I'm just like, what's the big thing that, like, eats at you every day?

He goes, again, I'm leaving. So that stresses me out a lot. Spending time enough, like, just time with my kids, each one of them. Like, I feel like I need to have like a Stratton one on one date soon. Yeah, that's been stressing me out a little bit. And then I get stressed when, like, you're stressed. Like, I felt like you were stressed this morning, and that kind of stressed me out.

Oh, about the babysitter?

Yeah. And the other call that you got?

Like, okay, so, like, this is like. So, like, when the babysitter canceled, I was like, yes. I was like, yes.

Okay. But just practically speaking, like, what was going to be your plan?

He was so stressed out.

And I was like, well, I was like. So I had. I had. We've been gone for like seven days. I have a lot. I feel like I have to catch up on and it. So I took them to Frothy Monkey and I was like, listen, big kids, like, y' all need to chill and like, bring your coloring book. And I planned around that. And it is kind of existential because the bigger question mark I feel like we've talked about on a couple podcasts here is like, how much of our lifestyle and routines and rhythms from Dallas we want to bring to here in Nashville. And I told you, one of the things I'm struggling with the most is like, you know how much I. How much of like the work routine I want to be in because it's just been completely shattered here. Like, we just don't have a lot of stability here right now, which is what me as a fear based person thrives on. Like, our house, you know, our house is not going to be ready probably until December. So we're in like a smaller place. There's really nowhere for you to retreat.

We don't have offices. We don't have, like, places to take phone calls. There's nowhere to retreat. And like, like, we both work from home, so it's. I know everybody's like, world's smallest violin probably, but it's like actually really hard to work.

[Jordan Austin]

No. Yeah. If you have kids and you're like, working from home, it's like impossible. I think anyone would empathize with that.

[Danny Austin]

And with no office.

[Jordan Austin]

And then on top of that, like, Smith just doesn't. He just is protesting. He doesn't want to sleep through the night.

Yeah.

[Jordan Austin]

So there's no stability really in, like when he's.

I am trying to see if we can like, maybe have like, somebody help us with sleep training.

[Jordan Austin]

Yeah. So. So there's no stability in that. Like, we're away from, like, we're making new friends, which is awesome. So it's kind of like everything is new and since we've moved to Nashville, like, it. I'm living how you love to live every day of your life.

How do you like it?

[Jordan Austin]

It's hard on me. It's. It's been really hard on me and very challenging.

That's probably why I'm so happy, because I feel like every day it's like new. I'm like, no routine. Babysitters are canceling Flights are being canceled.

That's what's really challenged me. It's like a very, like, spiritual thing for me because I'm like, okay, you know, how much do I idolize this, like, make believe idea that I'm in control, you know? And how much do I like, worship this, like, this idea of control that never really existed? Like, I treated that babysitter amazing and she's still.

[Danny Austin]

Yeah, she's great.

[Jordan Austin]

She's still canceled and she still needed to like, go to another family, which I totally respect. It's just funny because you and I are literally living the same way or we're living through the same circumstances. I am just living under this false belief that I'm in control, whereas, like, you don't have that false belief and we end up in the same destination.

Yeah.

Isn't that crazy?

Nothing changes. So for me it's kind of like, okay, maybe what I'm actually starting to learn here is that I'm not in control. And there's like a ability to just take your shoes and socks off here. Beautiful day, like, accept it, it's beautiful. But it is a wrestle.

It's a wrestle. And it will be a wrestle for a long time. But like, you know what? I think it's like, I can't wait till we fly through Charlotte again.

Yeah, I'm never flying through Charlotte. I already told the travel agent. I was like, no fly list.

Costa Rica totally slept on.

Nope. I'm gonna be honest, and this is horrible. But I never went. I never wanted to go because I was scared of the mosquitoes. I don't like mosquitoes at all. They just really. They irk me. I mean, who. Who does?

And so. And I don't really like bugs in general. And I've. I've spent some time in Africa before and it kind of scarred me. Yeah, I was like, thank God.

But no mistakes.

God didn't call me to offer Africa. But these were like, also. Nevermind, we want to talk about that. So I was a little scared of all the bugs, guys. I didn't see one mosquito there. I didn't see like one nasty bug. In fact, there are so many beautiful bugs, I kind of wanted to touch them.

Right.

[Danny Austin]

You know, great weather, great time. Well, it was a little toasty at first, but the people are amazing.

Spanish speaking. So we got to Practice out in our Spanish. The water was beautiful. The sand like wasn't too hot, the waves weren't too big to where the kids couldn't swim in the water. The hotel we stayed at, so we stayed at the Four Seasons, which was a really good hotel on the peninsula. Peninsula Papagayo for kids. They had the coolest kids club. Highly recommend. And there were so many excursions and like things you could do outside of the hotel, like go on like a monkey sightseeing tour or you could go ATVing through the tropical forest or go on a boat tour. We got, we rented jet skis one day we could, you could go snorkeling. It was just like the most magical experience ever. Because I think sometimes on the beach like or in Cabo, I get a little bored. It's like there's so much you can do. It's just like lay by the pool and in Cabo you can't even swim because you know, the water's so cold and the waves are so dangerous. It's very rocky beach. But in Costa Rica, not only that, but like the food is so delicious and the level of hospitality that like Costa Ricans give you is like next level in my opinion. Like so much crate, like it was Anguilla was amazing. But this was like a 10 out of 10. The people are like very. So they have like free education there. So everyone is like very educated, very kind. It's like, it's like they're wise with their hospitality. Does that make sense?

[Jordan Austin]

Yeah. And it's like their two biggest industries are like exports. Largest pineapple exporter, I think.

[Danny Austin]

Yeah, no, they're not the largest pineapple.

[Jordan Austin]

They are, they have the largest market share of pineapple exports. Oh yeah, over 50%.

Really?

Uh huh. He told me. And then coffee, their coffee's amazing because they produce it all locally there.

[Danny Austin]

Yep.

Like if you go to the grocery store, there's probably a bunch of Costa Rican coffee. And then their other industry is tourism. So like I feel like a lot of people just kind of, you know, really appreciate people coming in and like they're very welcoming too.

I actually drew up a couple of interesting facts about Costa Rica that I learned.

Yeah, I learned so many from once again, like the people that lived there like are so. They love Costa Rica so much and they're like so passionate about Costa Rica and staying there. And so these are some interesting facts I learned about Costa rica. It contains 6% of the world's biodiversity even though it's only 0.03%. Of the Earth's land area. So it has, like, a ton of different animals and fish and just wildlife that they had, like pumas and jaguars in the forest, monkeys. So it's like a really, really cool place to visit because you can just see all these animals. They have no army. They got rid of their army in 1948. So they just invest heavily in education, health care, and conservation. They're very into, like, conservation. No plastic on the island or not the island, sorry, but in Costa Rica is on an island on the peninsula.

[Jordan Austin]

That confused me. I thought I was on an island.

[Danny Austin]

Yeah, it's the peninsula. It's very close to Panama City in Guatemala and Nicaragua.

[Jordan Austin]

So who protects them?

[Danny Austin]

I was thinking about that.

But is it just like. Hey, let's not, like, is it.

I'll tell you.

I think it's China thing.

Let me tell you why in a second.

It's a very strategic partnership, a very strategic geographic reason to own.

[Danny Austin]

Right. More than a quarter of the country is protected. So 25 to 30% of Costa Rica is national parks, wildlife, refugees, and protected land, which is like one of the highest percentages in the world. It has both the Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea, so you can surf on one coast in the morning and swim on the other the same day. Pyravida. That's like the phrase that they all say, everybody.

[Jordan Austin]

What does it mean? Because they kept saying it to me,

[Danny Austin]

and it literally means pure life. But it's kind of like their way of saying, like, hey, what's up? A good day, whatever. Because where we were. I don't know if you know this, but that peninsula is one of the five blue zones in the world. Did you know that?

[Jordan Austin]

Yeah. Bad news.

[Danny Austin]

You don't believe in blue zones.

[Jordan Austin]

They just got debunked.

[Danny Austin]

Okay, so I did see some of that. But regardless, I think that there's still stuff to, like, learn from it.

[Jordan Austin]

People live a long time there.

[Danny Austin]

Isn't it like they were. It was just debunked. I was reading about this Andrew Huberman. Yeah, he debunked them. Isn't it, like, all propaganda?

[Jordan Austin]

I think so. Or like, not propaganda. It's like. Or like tourism boards or they were.

[Danny Austin]

Yeah, tourism boards. Or it's just. Or like, they would go in and do, like, these census, like. Yeah, like, studies.

[Jordan Austin]

The way they studied it was like, not super sound.

[Danny Austin]

I'm still gonna believe it because I just, like. It's like, what? What is it like there's no harm.

No one was basing their life around blue zones.

[Danny Austin]

No, they, they were actually people do because there's the, all these books written about these areas that are blue zones and like why they live to be so old. I think it is like whether there's 100 blue zones or five. It's like just good advice because I'll tell you what they say in a second.

[Jordan Austin]

I, I personally, if, if it's all debunked, I'm just going to say it. Nashville's a blue zone.

[Danny Austin]

There, there are five of these zones and most of them are very, you can tell they're very similar. So you have the peninsula in Costa Rica, Okina, Okinawa, Okinawa. Okinawa, Okinawa, Japan, Sardinia, Italy, Icara, Icaria. Greece and Loma Linda, California.

[Jordan Austin]

Icarian. The Icarians.

[Danny Austin]

Oh, Icaria. Sorry, that was like so bad the way I said it. But so yeah, a lot of these, it says they have lots of natural daily movement instead of intense gym workouts. They mostly eat whole food plant forward diets. They have strong family and community relationships, lower levels of chronic stress, a sense of purpose, good sleep habits and low smoking rates. So the one thing I noticed when we were in Costa Rica is. I don't know if you noticed this. It actually made my eyes sweat a little bit. As Josh Halberton would say, when we were like ATVing through those like local communities, there were so many people walking alongside the road. Did you notice that? Like they were just getting from like it was Sunday morning so a lot of them were walking to church.

Everyone was playing soccer.

[Danny Austin]

Everyone was playing soccer. But let me get. But did you notice that almost everyone walking was holding hands? There was a 15 year old boy walking with his mom holding her hand. Did you notice that? No, I noticed everyone was walking hands like old couples, young couples, mom and son, mom and daughter relationship. Like everyone was holding hands when they were walking wherever they were going. Which was just like so sweet because if you see a 15 year old boy here in Nashville or Dallas or wherever, they're not going to be like, yeah, mom, I want to hold your hand.

[Jordan Austin]

I don't know, there's a lot of homeschool kid here.

[Danny Austin]

Yeah, I mean maybe, maybe, sure. But you could tell it was like a culturally like really like that's just like what they did. Everywhere they were going, they were holding hands. Not only that, we passed by like on the way to where we were going. We passed by like it seems like every other mild their mile. There's like a soccer field where everyone is Gathering. They're bringing foods and fresh fruits and all this stuff. Stuff. And you have this community, and they are all with their kids, hanging out, watching the husbands play soccer.

Which was so sweet because they're not, like professional athletes, but they're just getting together to, like, you know, play. It's competitive. It brings people together. The coolest thing, I think, was when we passed the church, because, first of all, the music was blaring. Like, it was like you were passing, like, a club. Like, it was blaring, like, louder. It was like a concert in there. And you see all these people walking, and you could tell that there wasn't, like, a specific hour that, like, oh, church started. Therefore, we all have. Because there were a lot of people in and outside of the building just hanging out. People set up tables and chairs to, like, have breakfast in the middle of the road. Did you see that?

[Jordan Austin]

I did see that.

[Danny Austin]

In the middle of the road. They're like, everything. It's like the city or the town had just stopped, and everybody's just hanging out and all. Like, they saw us driving, and they were like, what are you doing? Like, where are you headed? Churches right here. It was like. Like, it was like a day experience of just, like, community, hanging out, food, fun, holding hands. Like, it was so sweet. It was so different than, like, I feel like, the church and a lot of these.

[Jordan Austin]

Like, it's kind of hard to explain this, but we were heading, like, we were driving ATVs up the mountain to zipline down, basically. And so a lot of these communities were very remote. Like, we probably went through, like, seven, and they're, like, way up there on the mountain. All of a sudden you see, like, a couple houses and, like, a soccer field. We're talking, like, they're probably 300 people that live in these communities.

[Danny Austin]

But, I mean, it was just. It was so cool. And, like, no grocery stores. No grocery stores at all. Like, I. Like, they're having to do, like, markets and probably trade and sell with each other. Like, a lot of them are growing fruits and vegetables in their backyard because also, the weather is amazing.

But it was. It was really, really cool to see. So that was one thing that I don't even remember where it was.

I was talking about blue zones. Oh, my.

Interesting facts. But the one thing about the blue zones is I feel like that type of culture and, like, what you see there is very common in those other blue zones.

[Jordan Austin]

Yeah.

So whether it's, like, accurate or not, like, all of that. Now, there was a book written on this, like, some. You know, I can't remember anybody's name, but they wrote. It's like a famous. Like a very, very popular book about blue Zones. And a lot of reasons why people also debunk it or debunk that authority is because she also wrote in that, like, one of the things that, like, keeps people living so long is red wine or wine at night. And, like, basically that's been, like, extremely debunked. Debunked, but maybe it's not the wine, but it was, like, the fact that people were getting together in community that was actually helping.

[Jordan Austin]

Yeah. Don't you think I'm not being, like, cheesy about this? Like, don't you think there's a lot of elements to, like, what makes a Blue Zone present in, like, here in Franklin. Yeah. Franklin, specifically.

[Danny Austin]

I think that's the type of life that people are trying to accomplish.

Because it does. Like, I think there's a correlation between your community and your stress levels. Like, that's the one thing I feel like I've taken away from here is the more that I'm around people, because we're probably more social here than we've been in years, and we had great friends in Dallas, but it's just like, everyone's like, come over for dinner. Come over for dinner. And. And I don't know if you feel this, but I feel like my general stress levels are way lower.

[Danny Austin]

Especially when you have your shoes off.

[Jordan Austin]

Yeah, when I have my shoes off and I've got no stability, technically, I should be just in shambles right now, but I feel so much less stress. I think the social aspect. If you were to quantify all of the things that make a blue Zone, I think that the social aspect will keep someone alive the longest.

[Danny Austin]

Well, and that's a big thing. I think one of the reasons you find that or you feel that way in Franklin is I think a lot of people are trying to support, like, their local community as well, Whether it's, like, a meat market or a farmer's market. Like, a lot of people don't want to go to, like, the big grocery store. Like, they want to support their community. Not only that, but they want, like, fresher goods that are not covered in pesticides and chemicals. And so I feel like that's very prevalent in Franklin, too. Like, even that farmer's market we went to with Landon. Olivia. The thing about. The thing about shopping locally, though, it is very expensive. Like, I got that thing of guacamole it was like $30.

[Jordan Austin]

It's crazy.

[Danny Austin]

The tortillas I got at, like, the local. There's a lady that makes tortillas, and they're amazing tortillas, but they were 20 bucks for, like, it's crazy.

[Jordan Austin]

For like eight, the eggs were like, what, like 12, 13 bucks.

[Danny Austin]

That's the hardest part about, like, I feel like where people are at, especially when they live in a city. It's like you want that. You want to support the local market, you want to help other people, but it's like, like the math ain't mathing. It doesn't make sense for us. For me to pay $20 or people to pay $40, $30 for a thing of guacamole. As much as I want to help you.

[Jordan Austin]

Yeah. I mean, that is like, the conundrum is like, the more that you stand against, like, big food, like, if we didn't have big food, like, we would all starve.

[Danny Austin]

Well, and then people, like, complain about whenever, you know, all this processed stuff, but then they're also not. We can't pay for the. The.

[Jordan Austin]

That's why it is kind of like a privilege thing to talk about, like, your.

[Danny Austin]

It's all those LA celebrities that are like, yeah, it's organic. It's me local.

[Jordan Austin]

It's so privileged.

[Danny Austin]

It's so privileged to be able to eat that healthy, like, and so solve

[Jordan Austin]

that problem a different day.

Yeah, that's a big one. Well, I was also reading about, like, groceries are the most expensive they've ever been, like, in, ever. And there's some, like, term that they put to it, but basically, like, groceries are like one of the few goods that. That when they increase in price, they never go back down. They always stay at that price.

[Jordan Austin]

I totally. It's. It's so sad.

[Danny Austin]

It's horrible.

[Jordan Austin]

It's like the one, like, if there was like a magic wand where it's like, I feel like if you just fix XYZ issue, it would really alleviate a lot of stress in, like, Americans lives. I think it's the groceries.

[Danny Austin]

Well, not only that, but, like, it's. I mean, it's just. I think that's why people were so excited about rfk. And I don't know if they still are, but. But, like, so this guy that. Yeah, I'm kind of like, over politics, like, right now. I can't. But let me pull up this guy. So I was listening to that Sean Ryan podcast that I love, and I was telling you about that Navy pilot. His name is Keegan Gill. Okay. So he did this whole. He was on Shawn Ryan. He survived, like, one of the fastest ejections out of, like, a fighter plane ever, which usually when you're ejected, like, at that speed or that rate, like, you just instantly die.

[Jordan Austin]

I cannot wait for you to attach this to groceries.

[Danny Austin]

Yeah. Okay, so I'm waiting for it. Well, to diet.

[Jordan Austin]

Oh, to die. Okay, Got it.

[Danny Austin]

Yeah. So he basically. He broke, like, his neck. He broke his arms, his legs. He was, like, 80 degrees when they found him in the water. He should have died from hypothermia. He didn't. He should have died from. He actually, like. Like, had an artery burst, and it should have. He should have bled out and bled to death. But because he was so cold in the water when he landed, it, like, prevented him from bleeding out. Anyway, had all these crazy injuries and was in the hospital for months and months. Months. Years. And going through pt. He was paralyzed from the neck down for, like, the first, like, three months or so. And he talked about how what they were feeding him in the hospital was, like, basically like, just poison. Like, not only, like, the food, because everything is, like, super processed. They're giving him, like, Ding Dongs and, like, you know, Doritos and, like, just disgusting food. And not only that, but then that started to make him feel even worse. So then they put him on 24 medications.

So when he got out of the hospital, he was on 24 medications. He was addicted to every single one of them. Gabapentin ended up being the hardest one for him to get off of. Of. But just, like, that whole process. Gabapentin is like a nerve blocker or something. I actually have been prescribed it for anxiety before, and it's actually very. They tell you it's not addictive.

[Jordan Austin]

Oh, is that what they call a beta blocker?

[Danny Austin]

Beta blocker, yes, I believe.

Oh, that's what pain.

Like, nerve pain you give.

Yeah, it makes you a little bit more numb. I've taken it before. It didn't really do anything for me. It actually just kind of made me sleepy. But, you know, I'm like, the anomaly. I'm a brick so anyway, but he was just talking about how that made him sicker and sicker and sicker and, like, he couldn't get out of it because of that. Because of, like, he was like, here we are at the hospital, and they're, like, helping me every day with, like, my PT and trying to get me on my. He started to gain, like, you know, his arm function back. His legs functioning back. His brain. He couldn't speak because his brain was so messed up. Like, he couldn't even put words together. He couldn't remember anything. And here they are giving him, like, the worst food ever. It's just all messed up. It's like, what do you do, though?

Yeah, that's crazy. I mean. Yeah, what can you do?

[Danny Austin]

What can you do? I mean, I guess. I guess you can just like, maybe start growing stuff in your backyard. Yeah, but that's like. Then you have to have good climate

and you gotta have land. You gotta push further out.

Well, no, sometimes they have those, like, little garden block.

I know. I always wonder. I see these little gardens and I'm like. I'm like, how long is that gonna last you? A week?

Well, no, no. You know who gardens a lot is Bridget. She gardens it like she has all of her own cucumbers. She grows tomatoes. She grows everything and she cooks with them. I know. I'm, like, so depressed.

Okay. Okay. So the blue zones, sloths are everywhere, but they are hard to spot. We didn't see any sloths or monkeys. We were kind of bummed about that coffee is the point of national pride. They do have really great coffee. You won't find addresses the way you do in the US directions often rely on landmarks such as 200 meters north of the old church. It's a renewable energy leader. This is really interesting. Costa Rica frequently generates nearly all of its electricity from renewable sources like hydropower, wind, geothermal and solar. The rainforests are incredibly loud at dawn and dusk. That was true. It was very, very loud when we were staying in the jungle.

Because of the bugs.

Just like. Yeah, because of the, the nightlife. I mean, the wildlife. Oh, yeah, they're out there partying. They're out there at the discotheque. So I thought this was really interesting because when we were going to atv. No, actually on the way home from ziplining. Sorry. There were so many adventures. There was a guy that was driving us, was a local to the closest town and he was telling us about how China made a deal with Costa Rica and all the Chinese when they moved there don't have to pay taxes.

Yeah, they're tax exempt.

So interesting fact. I don't think that's true. I did my own little research.

Apparently there's like a big misunderstanding amongst locals and they think that, and there might be like some advantages that they give them, like business wise, but it's not tax related. Related. So in 2007, Costa Rica switched diplomatic recognition from Taiwan to the People's Republic of China.

[Jordan Austin]

After the switch, China invested heavily in Costa Rica, including their helping finance the construction of the national stadium in San Jose. Did you see that national stadium when we were, when we were landing? So that's like all China. They increased trade and investment, purchasing Costa Rican exports such as agricultural products and medical devices. China is one of Costa Rica's largest trading partners, though the United States remains Costa Rica's largest overall trading partner and the country's biggest source of tourist and foreign investment. Costa Rica has generally tried to maintain good relationships with China and the United States states. It welcomes Chinese investment while also maintaining strong economical, cultural and security ties with the U.S. so I asked, okay, do the business owners not to pay taxes? Do Chinese people home? The Chinese homeowners don't have to pay taxes. Chinese citizens and Chinese owned businesses in Costa Rica are generally subject to the same tax laws as everyone else. Costa Rican tax laws do not exempt people based on nationality. The law explicitly states that taxpayers are liable regardless of nationality if they earn taxable income or conduct business in Costa Rica. So it talks about how homeowners are the same thing. You may have heard claims that Chinese businesses don't pay taxes. Those claims usually stem from one of three situations. Some companies operate in free trade zones where qualifying businesses receive tax incentives to encourage investment and job creation. Some businesses may illegally evade taxes, as can happen in any country. And then just rumors and misconception. Conception, man. So he was wrong. Poor guy.

[Jordan Austin]

I was literally thinking China was taking over Costa Rica.

[Danny Austin]

I know the way he.

Like the way he said it.

This way he said it. And then what was interesting was I think that one of the most interesting parts of whenever you're driving through these towns in Costa Rica are there are, like, Chinese marts all of a sudden. And you're like, where did that come from? Like, everybody's speaking Spanish. It's very random. And he said that these marts are like. He's like, you get a bottle of water for $4, you'll get it there for 50 cents. Like, it's all, you know. But, yeah, I thought that was interesting. Huh? You know, it's like, do other people find this interesting or is it just us?

[Jordan Austin]

You know, I was actually thinking the same thing about this podcast. This podcast has been. We're on just such an intellectual curiosity journey about Costa Rica, and I don't read any of the comments or talk to really anyone about this podcast. I wonder if they find it interesting.

[Danny Austin]

I know, because you and I do find some things super interesting that I know other people don't.

[Jordan Austin]

I think that they do. And if they don't, I feel like they're wrong.

[Danny Austin]

I just feel like you guys need to be interested in Costa Rica because it really is, like, such a cool place. But it might be one of those things where it's like, if you haven't read the book, then it's not interesting. Like, maybe people that haven't gone are like, don't care, you know?

[Jordan Austin]

Yeah.

But if you've gone, you're probably like, oh, that's so interesting, Danny. Like, yes, I saw a Chinese mark, too. Thanks for explaining that well.

And the tourism board paid us to say all this.

No, it's own, basically, by China, so. I'm kidding. We're not.

No. From foreign governments. It's kind of like, who's that? Who's that? What's that company that wanted to.

No. Yeah, because they didn't want it. But they wanted to.

Or cotton. And it's like, who do you work for? And they're like, we work for milk. And I'm like, oh, so you work for, like, Horizon? They're like, no, we work for milk. I'm like, like, all the milks of the world. They're like, yes, the commodity. Like the milk. Milk. And so, like, we've worked with milk. No, we haven't worked with milk, but milk did reach out. I would work with milk if milk never wants to reach out to me.

Cotton. I really like the, like, cotton. So cotton. We work with cotton. What were we talking about? Oh, tourism boards. Yeah. I don't know.

Because vasectomies are kind of.

So we're like, who do you work for? And they're like, we work for vasectomy.

Like, there's a correlation right now between, like, prostate cancer and vasectomy. That's like a new conversation.

Allegedly. We're not.

Allegedly. I haven't even researched it. But that conversation started popping up. So then who was it? Like, who?

It was the vasectomy people.

The vasectomy lobby. Yeah, the vasectomy lobby approached us and was like, listen, we want Jordan to document his vasectomy the same way Danny documented her natural. And I was like, who Botox?

Not that. Not a brand, just Botox. Botox for getting headaches. Just, like, not. Don't mention a brand. Don't mention anything. Just the fact that you get Botox for headaches. And then I really wanted to work with them because I did do it. And then they never replied. I was like, so rude.

You're kind of a great candidate because you're, like, the only person I've ever met that injected Botox into her shirt.

[Danny Austin]

No. And I made a whole video about it because I. It did it in my shoulders.

Did it work? Do you still get. Do you get less migraines?

It worked for, like, I feel, like, a lot of other reasons besides migraines. Just, like, overall tension and pain that I dealt with every day.

I don't even really believe in any of this stuff, but, like, I kind of do a little bit because, like. Like, this Scorpio is real. I have some Scorpio in me. And when it comes out, it's like, no, it's like, wait, hold on. It's like, no, it's like that.

their, like, listen, I've been a. Because they want. They want you to know that, like, they know you, and now they see the flaw in you, and it means more because they followed you for a long time. So she was like, you know, I just read this article, and I just want to let you know, like, how disappointed I am in the video that you posted about all the things you rejected from the hospital. Like, you have a huge responsibility as an influencer, and I'm just. You really need to take that responsibility more serious because you could not only be impacting others, but be impacting, like, babies. And basically this whole article is about how. And she had, like, a couple of other, like, you know, twisty, turny, like, knife statements in there that were, like, not mean, but just which video are we talking about? So the video that I made in the hospital of, like, everything I rejected. So I didn't get Pitocin. I didn't get the epidural. I didn't. I did delayed cord clamping. Everything that I did was. It was, like, not that controversial. Like, people do that stuff all the time. Like, just not getting Pitocin or not getting. Right. And I did. I told. I told the doctor I will have Pitocin, but only if I start to bleed. Like, I don't need Pitocin if I'm not bleeding. So anyway, but you know what's so funny in the video? Oh, this article she sent me was all about how people. Parents are rejecting the vitamin K shot, and so babies are, like, bleeding out. Like, it's horrible. Right? So she's like, danny, like, true. No. Yeah, it was like. It's like science. Like, vitamin K. I got the. I gave our kids a vitamin K shot.

Huh?

And she was like, I'm just so disappointed in your video and how, like, you promoted not getting the vitamin K shot. I, like, was like, dude, I literally don't know what you're talking about. All my boys have had vitamin. All of my kids have had the vitamin K shot. Because vitamin K does help. Like, especially boys if you're getting circumcised, like, prevent that, like, intense bleeding if that happens. So I did it. And she was here calling me out because, saying, I didn't.

So what'd you say? Bye.

I was like, girl, honestly, it's. So then we got into the whole argument because, you know, we went on and on.

Oh, y' all were like, debating.

Yeah. But I always make my comments screenshotable. So it's like, if people are. Whatever, post it and be like, look at what Danny said. Always make sure that screen readable. The worst thing I'll say to you if you DM me is you're being really mean. Okay. Like, I will be like, you're just a meanie pants. I'll be like, you're a mean girl. And I'm sorry. Like, but I don't even get sarcastic with them. I'm very like, hey, this is very mean.

You know, so anyway, so I replied back to her, and I was like, hey, you know, honestly, I. It's really like. It's kind of people like you. I feel like that start these rumors because I did do the vitamin K shot and I did advise. I didn't advise. Advise anybody to do anything. In fact, the beginning of the video, I made a disclaimer, a medical disclaimer, being like, I don't know what I'm talking about. This is what I did. But I kind of do what I'm talking about sometimes.

You know, minor in biology.

Yeah. And so I was like, obviously you didn't watch the video. And I. I do feel like it's people like you that start these rumors about me being a certain way when that's not even true. And da, da, da, da. And she was like, you know, I apologize. But I still stand by the fact that, like, you have a huge responsibility to, like, like, basically, what's it called? Censor what you share. Because, you know, you could be influencing, like, people to do something that's. And I'm like, okay, first of all, how scary of a world would it be if we weren't allowed to share our personal experiences? Look at the history. Look at when people were smoking while they were pregnant and people were saying that was fine. Or lobotomies whenever you have depression. Or different sleeping. Like, the ways that infants sleep on their back or the sleeping positions. Like, there's been a lot of times, times in life where the establishment was wrong, where they were wrong, and, like. But thank goodness we're able to share our experiences and be like, hey, you know what? I tried. Instead of getting on an antidepressant, I tried going gluten free, and now I feel a lot better, you know, so there's just experiences and things that, like, I just. To me, it's like everybody. It has their own autonomy. And, like, just because you see a video of somebody jumping off a cliff, you're not gonna go jump off a cliff. Like, everybody has to do their own research and do their own thing. And, like, how scary of a world would it be if we couldn't share our experiences?

Yeah. What she's really saying is, like, your experience made me uncomfortable.

It's because it's one of the largest markets for where people travel to for dental care because it's cheaper.

That's so interesting, babe. So, yeah, Costa Rica is great. And I highly recommend everyone to go. I did fly in this little red plane that was actually created for National Geographic to take photos. Now, I don't know if it was just photos in Costa Rica, but it was like a photography airplane. It was so cool. What's so cool about this little plane is the power that it has. So you can fly right above the water whenever. Like, above a valley or a river, and then just zoom right up into the air and be really high in the air. It was so fun. And then I was like. I got off, and I was like, jordan, you have to do it. And then Jordan did it.

Then we sent our nanny, and we

sent our nanny, Brenda, because it was, like, one of those experiences where it's like, it. No, but, like, you want everyone to do it. Because it was so cool. Like, I texted Jordan while I was on the plane. I was like, you have to do this, and sent him a selfie. Yeah, it was a really cool experience.

Then we saw two turtles mating in the water.

And we were kind of like, is this a sign? And then we're. And then we're like.

We were talking about, like, should we have a fifth child? And then we go out on the boat and see these two turtles. And I'm like, this. This turtle's murdering the other right in front of us. We are literally witnessing a homicide. And then the. The guy on the. On the boat was like, no, they're mating.

But then our babysitter canceled on us this morning, and I said, we should not have a fifth. Yeah, we should definitely not have a fifth.
