Danny
The following podcast is a Dear media production. Hello, and welcome back to your favorite podcast D Influence.
Jordan
We have nothing to talk about today.
Danny
No, we don't.
Sponsor Host 1
We do.
Jordan
We probably do. But we don't have a plan. But we never have.
Danny
We honestly, even if we had a plan, we never actually go by the script.
Jordan
But sometimes these end up being the silliest, funniest, best episodes. No pressure.
Danny
Yeah. Tell me you got any jokes.
Jordan
No, but I can talk about the Odyssey.
Danny
Jordan really wants to talk about the Odyssey.
Jordan
I really want to talk about the Odyssey.
Danny
And that's what's kind of fun about our relationship, is I feel like we always have something that we're both deep diving into.
Jordan
When did that happen?
Danny
Honestly, I think it's like, probably after, like, the third kid. I think we just knew, like, if we really want to do this thing called life or this, like, thing called marriage, we're gonna have to find some commonalities outside of just having babies. And at a certain point, you know, six years in, it's like, you already know all the stories. You know, you already knew everything about me, I already know everything about you. Like, we both tell the same stories, so there's really nothing new to, like, learn about each other.
Jordan
Also, life kind of slows down, so it's not like.
Danny
It's not like we're doing a lot of stuff.
Producer
Yeah.
Jordan
Every day is kind of the same.
Danny
Yeah. Like, before we were first married, like, you're traveling, so you always have something new to talk about. And. And then at a certain point, you look at each other and you're like.
Jordan
Have you ever seen those, like, tiktoks where it's like, wife comes home from, like, a girl's night and, like, the. The husband's, like, on the, like, ready
Danny
to hear all the tickets, but we
Jordan
don't even have that anymore.
Danny
Yeah.
Jordan
We don't really have any, like, drama.
Danny
No, I know. I'm like, well, I mean, like, yeah,
Jordan
like, you bring some dramator from the Internet, but. But not really, like, real life drama.
Danny
Yeah. So I feel like we both just decided that it's. We're gonna have to either have a hobby or, like, keep learning some stuff.
Jordan
I think someone almost got in a crash outside.
Danny
Yeah, we just.
Jordan
Okay. We're in a new studio.
Danny
Jordan's still not used to it.
Jordan
Yeah, still not used to it.
Sponsor Host 2
Very dangerous.
Sponsor Host 1
Yeah.
Danny
So I feel like we're always deep diving. Right now. Jordan is deep, and then what's so fun about our deep dives is, like, Jordan will just, like, Obsess about something and then, like, will tell me about it and I'll decide if I want to deep dive with him. Like, you had a couple. Like, I was, like, on the fringe. Like, which ones?
Jordan
I feel like you followed me into
Sponsor Host 2
the dark and all.
Danny
No, the. The book about the Federal Reserve. I was like, I'm not. I'm not going there. Yeah.
Jordan
Huge mess.
Danny
I did the Unseen Realm. I followed him into that halfway realm. Halfway. I'm still working on it. And then he got into Greek mythology, and I was like, not super, super interested, actually. No, I'm sorry. You got into the Roman Empire first.
Sponsor Host 2
Yeah.
Danny
Then you got into Greek mythology, and then the Odyssey came out, and I was like, okay. Like, he said, it's a really good movie. I should deep dive. So I've been. Actually, I wouldn't say I'm reading the Iliad or the Odyssey, but I am, like, kind of spark noting it as a millennial would say.
Jordan
The other fun thing about you following me into the dark is you kind of co opt a lot of my talking points.
Danny
Yeah.
Jordan
Like, you shared. I noticed that you allowed for me to share. You share with your audience, the Kindle hack. And then you refilmed it yesterday.
Danny
Yeah, because. Because I didn't think you were gonna like your posture.
Jordan
Oh, was I doing Grinch belly?
Danny
Yeah. And I just, you know, I just care a lot, and I was just trying to save you from.
Jordan
Was it really?
Danny
Yeah.
Jordan
Okay.
Danny
I really did. I did really re. Watch it. And then I also thought, you know, if I'm gonna refilm it, I might as well just take the credit.
Jordan
Yeah. Grinch Belly is like. For some reason, I have this, like, one way of sitting where.
Danny
No, baby, it's just. It's just the way that our bodies are sometimes.
Jordan
No, no, it's just. It's just when I said a certain way. It's just what I said a certain way that there's. You know, if you've seen Jim Carrey's the Grinch, he has the belly.
Danny
Jordan showed me, like, one of the most, like, I still don't really know how I feel about it. And I've, like, replayed it. I keep, like, envisioning it, and I still don't know. I didn't know how to react.
Jordan
But, like, your reaction was weird.
Danny
Jordan showed me, like, a shirtless selfie of himself last night, and I was like, like, is this sweet or is this, like, ick? Or am I like, is it endearing? Like, and I was like, I don't. I Don't know how to, like, interpret this.
Jordan
No, it was only for me and you. And it was because it.
Danny
Exactly.
Jordan
It was only because two months ago, I started a cut, which means that I started eating way less calories. And then I was trying to figure out the before and after because it gets really confusing to know. It's like, is this working or not?
Danny
I know, but, like, for some reason, I was, like, feeling a little secondhand embarrassment for you, but then I was like, do I need to take a shirtless selfie to you?
Jordan
Yeah, you acted like I should be embarrassed, but I was actually so proud of my progress, which is so crazy.
Danny
That's actually one of the reasons I fell in love with Jordan in the first place, is, like, so my dad and I used to call him Sport Coat.
Jordan
Yeah.
Danny
Because Jordan, when I met him, was, like, probably 40 pounds heavier, wouldn't you say?
Jordan
Yeah, probably.
Danny
And the funniest thing is that, like, I always thought he was, like, so cute. But, like, we look back at pictures, and I'm like, whoa. Like, you were, like, a little chubby, but, like, you know, I didn't. I. Like a little meat on the bones. You know what I mean?
Jordan
And in my head in those moments.
Danny
But y', all, Jordan, when I met him, like, thought he was Brad Pitt. Like, he literally was the most confident person in the world. Like.
Jordan
Yeah.
Sponsor Host 1
And he works from home, and he
Danny
was the chief marketing officer of his. Like, his confidence was out of this world. And every day he worked from home, he would get up, get dressed. Eight o', clock, he had a sport coat on. Like, a actual blazer.
Sponsor Host 2
Dress for success.
Danny
He would dress for success, but he would just work from his kitchen. And I always thought that was, like, so cute. And, like, so. But my dad would always be like, where's he going? And so every time he would come around, he had, like, a jacket on. So my dad called, and I would call him Sport Coat.
Jordan
Yeah. No. So, okay, I. I need to talk to you about this trait and myself, because I actually. We're meeting a lot of new people here.
Danny
Yeah.
Jordan
And there's something that has existed in the back of my mind where I'm like. I'm like. I think what I'm talking about is cool, and I think people are engaged and interested. But I do know this quality about myself that it's, like. It's a little bit Delulu. I can think that I am Brad Pitt, but I'm actually 40 pounds, probably overweight. And in. In the first. But the first. No, that's What I want to know is the first selfies that I took, you know, three months ago or two months ago, in those pictures, I was like, I'm ripped. Like I'm jacked. And you were the one who. You were like. And I always come to you, and I ask you. I'm like, no, okay.
Danny
He. First of all, he asks me on a daily basis. He takes his shirt off. He's like, what do you think? Do you see a difference? He's like. And then he always does this with his belly. He rubs. He's like, I think I'm leaning out. And he, like, does the side thing. And I'm like. And he literally will eat healthy for 24 hours. So, like, 24 hours later, he's like,
Jordan
no, I always eat healthy.
Danny
No, I know, but you ask me 24 hours later.
Jordan
Yes.
Danny
Is it different?
Jordan
Yes.
Danny
I'm like, babe, it's been 24 hours. Like. But you're always like, I think I. I think I'm skinnier. And I'm always like, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Jordan
But when I took those pictures, I was like, oh, I'm in great shape. But then I just looked at the ones that I showed you last night from, you know, last night.
Danny
Yeah.
Jordan
And it was very clear that I needed to lean out a little bit. So this. We don't need to talk about my body. We just need to talk about the Delulu trait of me, because it actually kind of scares me in life, because sometimes, like, especially meeting all these new people, my deepest fear is I'm like, that person loves me. We had a great conversation. And what if they're getting in the car and they're like, that guy's a psychopath.
Danny
But you know what?
Jordan
I would be totally oblivious to it.
Danny
But, babe, we all have those thoughts
Jordan
about me, about ourselves.
Danny
Oh, sorry. Sorry. No, no. I'm sorry.
Producer
No. Okay.
Danny
We all have those thoughts about ourselves. I'm like, I was so funny and great and thoughtful, and then it's like, sometimes people just don't like me.
Jordan
I'm not trying to bliss smoke. Most of the time. You're right, okay. About your good moments. And the reason you're right about your good moments is because typically, you're pretty hard on yourself and your bad moments. So you have, like, a pretty good, honest calibration of yourself.
Danny
What was a bad moment?
Jordan
Just usually you're like, oh, man. Like, I don't. I don't think I did well. Did well there. Like, I could have done better. Like, your heart. You're hard on yourself.
Danny
Yeah. I was, like, tired. I was like.
Jordan
My mentality is so, like.
Danny
Like, I killed it every time.
Jordan
Naively optimistic, probably. And so this delusional trait you're talking about.
Danny
No, I don't think. Okay, let me just stop you right there. I don't think that you're delusional in any other way except for sometimes your body confidence.
Jordan
Okay, that's fair. That's fair.
Danny
And I think that. And I.
Sponsor Host 1
Here's the thing.
Danny
I think you look great. I think you looked great in the photo before and the photo after, but it's just like the fact that you were, like, flexing and then you're. I just gets me.
Jordan
Well, you're supposed to do that.
Danny
I know. And babe, like, you do. You, like, you look so great. Like, just keep on going and, like, send me all the shirtless selfies.
Producer
Okay.
Jordan
Yeah, they're just for you and I truly. It's in a password protected folder. Yeah, you know the password. Yeah, it's the password. Everything.
Producer
Yeah.
Danny
Yeah.
Jordan
So.
Sponsor Host 2
But.
Danny
But no, interesting.
Jordan
Just parking on this a little bit because there have been several times, bachelor parties here in Nashville where, you know, like, when I'm talking about what I'm learning with the Unseen Realm. Okay. You know how I get. I can go off on a tangent.
Danny
And.
Sponsor Host 1
And that's. I think.
Jordan
And the room is captivating.
Danny
And this is one of the greatest things about you is Jordan knows a little bit about everything, and he's always learning new things. So, no, you're not delusional in that way. And I really don't think we need to talk about this anymore.
Jordan
Okay. But you called it. You called it. What did you call it? Endearing? Delusion. I think it's endearing.
Danny
I think everybody likes a little. A little dulu. It's like innocence.
Jordan
All right, so don't tweak anything about my social habits.
Danny
No, your social habits. And you're always so. You. You always know so many interesting facts, and you're really good with names. He'll always be like, well, there's this guy, Richard Miles, who. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. And I'm like, I literally sometimes forget my best friend's name. It's horrible. And like, honestly, I always get my kids names switched up.
Jordan
Yeah.
Danny
Oh, do you remember. Did you. Did we talk about this last week?
Jordan
What?
Danny
When we went to that person's house and they asked what Stratton's middle name was or Summit's middle name was.
Jordan
Oh, no, you didn't, y'. All.
Danny
We went to a dinner, like, probably, like, the third night that we were here, and the sweet family hosted us. They're the ones that had seven kids. And they asked me, like, oh, yeah, like, what's Summit's middle name? And I go, summit Lee. And I. Y'. All. I could not remember Summit's little. I made it up. I literally made it up.
Jordan
You know, the biggest mistake I made in that moment was I corrected her, and then she.
Danny
He corrected me, and I was like, babe. Just like. He's like, babe, that's not his middle name. I'm like, can you just go with the flow for a second? Yeah. So I have a horrible memory. Jordan has a great memory.
Jordan
I can't remember our kids birthdays.
Danny
That's the best thing about me is, like, I forget. So, like, every inch in every interesting fact is, like, new to me. Everything I learned, I'm like, wow, I'm learning it all over again every time.
Jordan
Yeah, it's.
Sponsor Host 1
That's like.
Danny
That's why I love history, because I'm like, wow, this is so fascinating. Like, you know, I'm like, World War II is about this.
Jordan
Yeah.
Danny
And I. I relearn it every three months.
Jordan
Most of what. Most of the paths that we have been going down together, which is such a great thing that we've found together, is history.
Danny
Yeah.
Jordan
And it's so great because we'll never
Danny
learn all of it, and I'll always
Jordan
forget it, and it's always kind of debatable. Right. You got this one perspective on this
Danny
event, then you got this other perspective. It is so complicated when people say it's not complicated. It is.
Jordan
No, for sure. And then the way people going through events, the way it's kind of like, okay, it ends up in textbooks, and then there's some authors or intellectuals that write this angle. And it's just really. It's really hard to understand, which kind of makes me question. Question the way that we're taught history. You know, it's like when we went through public school, it's like, taught in this very kind of mainstream. Like, here's very lacking nuance, and it's not that interesting if you learn it that way. What's interesting about it is all the different perspective on. On events.
Danny
I think you appreciate history as you get older because you start to picture yourself there's there. And like. Like, I'm like, oh, my gosh, what if I was a pioneer woman with my husband and he had to leave us every day to go hunting? What would I do with my three small children that are all girls?
Jordan
Yeah. We've been watching Little House.
Sponsor Host 1
Yeah. I, like.
Jordan
I really put Danny in the scene.
Danny
I'm like, oh, my gosh, do I need to start wearing long dresses? I'm like, that's why they didn't get mosquito bites. But anyway, enough about history. I want to know more about you.
Jordan
One last thing. I do think this should be shared. So the. The Kindle hack is that if you buy a Kindle book, you can use an app called Text Muncher to basically get the epub file. So, like, Danny didn't want to read the Odyssey, which I don't. I wouldn't recommend. She read the whole thing. It's, like, kind of a complex.
Danny
I tried. It was just a little too much.
Jordan
And so I was like, hey, take this, and then upload it to ChatGPT and then ask it to summarize, like, each chapter for you so that when you go watch the movie.
Danny
I had already told ChatGPT to just, like, summarize each.
Jordan
I know, but it's totally different because when you actually have. And I think people are gonna get mad about this, but, like, when you actually have the transcript, it's like you can actually live in the story in a better way.
Danny
Well, also, there's different, like, authors of different, like, versions of the Iliad.
Jordan
Oh, yeah, that's so true.
Danny
So we'll chase later. So what's the.
Jordan
Really, the popular one is, like, Emily Watson.
Danny
No, the guy who just made the movie.
Jordan
Oh, Christopher Nolan.
Danny
Yeah. Christopher Nolan, like, used a specific.
Jordan
Like, which one did he use?
Danny
You know, it's. I think it's. It starts with an S. Maybe Sophia something. See, I can't remember nothing.
Jordan
Yeah, they're. They're all the same story. It's just, like, translating from the Greek is really hard. So I think her name's Emily Watson. That's the one I read is the most, like, approachable. And then some are just more, like, wordy and cinematic and epic, and then, you know, others are.
Danny
Yeah. I mean. Yeah.
Jordan
Should we talk about the Odyssey, or
Producer
do you not want the 2017 translation by Emily Wilson?
Sponsor Host 2
Wilson.
Danny
I see. I can't remember.
Jordan
Oh, that's the. That's what he used. Christopher Nolan. Okay. That's the most, like, approachable one.
Sponsor Host 2
I'm surprised you use that one, to be honest.
Producer
Yeah.
Danny
I mean, tell us about that experience.
Sponsor Host 2
Father's Day is coming up, and I feel like dads are some of the hardest people to shop for, because most of us just say, I'm good.
Jordan
I don't need anything.
Sponsor Host 2
Which usually means everyone else is left trying to figure out what we actually want. That's why I like Cozy Earth. It's the kind of thing I probably wouldn't have gone out and bought for myself, but once I started using it, I totally understood the hype. I remember every summer there was always something that shaped who I was going to be the next school year. Maybe it was making new friends, finding a new hobby or or just having the freedom to figure out what I actually liked. And honestly, I feel like summer is when you really start discovering your own style too. You come back to school feeling a little more confident and a little more like yourself now. It's so fun watching that happen with our own kids. Even though they're still little, you can already see their personalities growing and changing so much over the course of a summer. It's really sweet to watch them become more and more themselves. And when it's time to get everyone ready for a new school year or two, Ross is such a great place to shop. Jordan
So, first of all, okay, of this family who I got to read you this text message. You'll. You'll die laughing.
Danny
Jordan says the Odyssey was the greatest movie he's ever seen. It's a masterpiece. But it's so funny because then I looked in, like, Time magazine, like, wrote, like, a disc piece on it.
Jordan
Like, that's so crazy. What did they even say? What was their. What was their negativity?
Danny
I didn't read it.
Jordan
Exactly. Okay, do me a favor or let me read this.
Producer
Are you saying what Time magazine said?
Jordan
Yeah, I want to know what time
Danny
they said something about how it's just. I don't know.
Jordan
Okay, so one of the seven kids. So all these kids are homeschooled. So they're very educated and, like, they're very well read, and they like one of them. I won't say his name on the podcast, but he's my guy. I go to. I talked to him, the unseen realm with him and all this, and you'll. You'll die laughing. They're all very strong believers. And I text him, and I said, hey, did you watch the Odyssey? And he said. He said, Exodus 23:13 caused a lot of Jews and early Christians to have interesting debates on reading Greek mythology, which has been in the back of my mind, and I have not researched it. And I was like, that's such an interesting take. So then I read Exodus 23:13, which I actually don't know what that says.
Producer
Hold on, I can get it.
Jordan
Oh, it says, Exodus 20:13 commands the Israelites to be careful, to follow all of God's instruction, forbids them from invoking or mentioning the name of other gods, which he's probably right about the history of the church back then, like, entertaining, you know, Greek mythology.
Danny
But then he goes, he's protecting his conscience.
Jordan
No, he's protecting his conscience. But then I dragged him in, and I was like, listen, just chill, dude.
Danny
You're the badass.
Jordan
It's like, just calm down. But okay, so my. I won't get too much into the Odyssey, although I think people actually care. You have to go into it, like, with some knowledge of the backstory of the Trojan War, like, who is Achilles? Like, some understanding of Greek mythology and the gods.
Danny
Just watch Troy with Brad Pitt.
Jordan
Yeah, but I do think you should also watch Troy with Brad Pitt because it will put on a scale like that is here so much lower on the totem pole. And then you watch the Odyssey, and that will also make you appreciate what A masterpiece. It is. But I saw the Odyssey with seven guys. Half the group had read and were familiar with Greek mythology and, like, knew what they were like going into, half didn't. And so when a cyclops shows up and they're like, oh, I thought, I'm just watching the Bourne Ultimatum back in, like, ancient Greece. And then a cyclops shows up, they're like, this movie's super weird. So it's really hard to understand it if you don't know what's coming. But for all the guys that had read it, we were on the edge of our seats because we were like, how is he gonna pull off this story or this book or, like, this witch changing the soldiers into, like, swine or pigs, you know?
Danny
Right.
Jordan
And because I had read it the week before and had not really that much understanding of Greek mythology, I was seriously, like, this is going to be cheesy. I didn't think he was going to pull it off. I thought the reviews were bought. And I was like, this is all just, like, overhyped because it would be impossible to not make this cheesy. And, like, I walked out with, like, chills.
Danny
Wow.
Jordan
Straight up and down my arm.
Danny
And it's three hours long.
Jordan
It's three hours long.
Danny
Did you ever feel like I need an intermission?
Jordan
I did. I peed. But I knew what was coming. I was like, this is a down scene. And then I went, pete. Okay, so, like, my recommendation is you buy the Iliad, you buy the Odyssey on Kindle, you use Text Muncher to rip the files, and then you upload it to ChatGPT, give it a summary of, like, the entire thematic history of the time, ask questions. You can do the Voice feature on ChatGPT, where you, like, talks to you. You talk to a professor. You're like, hey, so tell me about this. Or why did you. Why did Athena not. Or why did Athena love Odysseus, you know, and not Achilles, you know? And you ask all those questions, then you go.
Sponsor Host 2
And then you watch.
Danny
Clever in wit.
Jordan
Yes, very good. And then you watch Troy, and then you go watch the Odyssey, and I guarantee you, you'll be like, wow, I so appreciate what he did.
Danny
How was the acting? How is Zendaya?
Jordan
So here's my only. Okay, here's my criticisms of the Odyssey. And they're pretty simple. One is, at times, they use modern language. So, like, I think that they. They're. They have a lot of, like, you know, like, you know, when, like, you watch Lord of the Rings, it's kind of they're talking in this like, feels like an ancient type of dialect. They do that, but then they mix in like modern language. Like it would be like the equivalent of them seeing a witch and being like, oh my gosh, what are you doing here? And it kind of throws off the
Danny
vibe, like slay a little bit.
Jordan
And it's. Honestly, I don't want to like slam him, but it's one actor that I feel like kind of was the weak link.
Danny
Oh, tell us who it is.
Jordan
I don't know who it is, but it's like Odysseus. Odysseus's right hand.
Danny
Okay.
Jordan
I think he's like an Indian guy, but he's I think like the weaker actor that kind of brought down. He's a pretty central role, but I just thought he was kind of a weak link. Second thing I would say is Travis Scott was awesome, but he had such a small part. So like the movie literally. And I'm not ruining anything. Literally opens.
Danny
You're not ruining anything. It's like 3,000 year old Greek mythology.
Jordan
No, no, I'm not ruining anything about Travis Scott's character. But he has such a small part, but like he is such a cool presence that I wish that he would have played a larger role in the movie. And then third is. So if you watch Troy with Brad Pitt, they have Odysseus in that movie, but they don't really focus on like Odysseus wit or anything. Like it's all about Achilles and Troy. I wish that they would have had one moment that Achilles appeared in a flashback during the Trojan War. And there was one interaction, but they don't mention Achilles at all.
Danny
Hmm. The rest was against him.
Jordan
The rest was like incredible. And the craziest part about it too is they didn't use any cgi.
Danny
Really? I didn't know that.
Jordan
So there's.
Danny
Everything is like, is real.
Jordan
Everything is real.
Danny
So like even is he against cgi?
Jordan
I think he just didn't want it to feel like he wanted to feel as real as possible.
Danny
Then how do you do the cyclops? The pigs or the cyclops?
Jordan
Yeah, well, the, the, you'll, you'll see it. But like when he, when she transforms the, the men into pigs, it's kind of camera tricks. And then you can tell that it's like, you know, the real masks and makeup and stuff like that.
Danny
The.
Jordan
There's a part with giants that's all like just really tall people.
Producer
He.
Jordan
In the book, they're actually not armored like in like Knight's armor, but he put them in knight's armor so that he could do the camera trick and, like, make them look taller. So it's all just kind of, like, filming up to make them seem bigger. And then this. I didn't know this, but someone next to me told me the Cyclops is a puppet.
Danny
Oh.
Jordan
But, you know, he was trying to make everything so real. It was apparently one of the hardest shoots that any of the actors or team had ever done.
Danny
Yeah. Matt Damon said it was the hardest movie he's ever done.
Jordan
Because, like, for example, they. They shot in Ithaca. I think it was shot in Spain. And because he wanted the soldiers to, like, look sweaty and kind of, like, ripped in the shots, he made them hike up there, and then they hiked with the giant IMAX camera up these mountains, like, every single day. And, you know, he just wanted everything to be real. So the ships were real. He did this in Interstellar. You remember the scene where they drive through the cornfields?
Danny
Yes.
Jordan
In the truck. Not a huge scene, but he grew all of that corn, literally, just to. To do the scene the way he wanted to.
Danny
I mean, what's up with this guy?
Sponsor Host 2
He's just. He doesn't even have a cell phone.
Danny
He doesn't have a cell phone.
Jordan
Flip phone.
Danny
What?
Jordan
Doesn't do email.
Danny
Why? Just, like, he wants to preserve the genius.
Sponsor Host 2
Yeah.
Danny
Or he just can.
Jordan
He just seems like a. I think he's British.
Danny
There's British people.
Jordan
Little hoity toity, you know, artistic dude. But yeah.
Danny
Okay. I'm excited. We have to go see it.
Jordan
We have to go see it. I don't know who. I need to get, like, a second wave of people. Like, I'm basically telling everyone now to go read it.
Danny
So there will be a second thing about moving to a new city is, like, you're just. We're constantly finding, like, excuses to invite people to stuff.
Jordan
Yeah. I think that's very particular to this city, though. Everyone is very social.
Danny
Yeah. So social.
Jordan
And everyone knows each other.
Danny
Calm down.
Jordan
I got invited to Go Go Ride Go Karts.
Danny
Like, what I'm telling you, it's kind of giving Mormon.
Jordan
It's giving Mormons.
Danny
Like, Mormons would ride Go Karts. They're so fun.
Jordan
No, it's.
Danny
Yeah, they're the funnest.
Jordan
It's giving Mormon vibes here. But I love it.
Sponsor Host 1
I love it, too.
Jordan
I love it. I love the Mormons.
Danny
Same.
Sponsor Host 2
They're great.
Producer
Great people.
Danny
They're great people.

Danny
Well, we've been trying out churches too and that's been interesting. But I'm y', all, I met another girl, I guess, woman that has kids the same ages as mine at church. Like her name's Emily and she has like a five year old, a four year old, like a one year old and a newborn. I think her newborn was three months and minus five months. Yeah, I'm, I've never met another person with that age gap before. So I already met my new best friend.
Jordan
No, she doesn't hung out yet.
Danny
I mean the thing is like how are we going to hang out?
Jordan
That's so true.
Danny
It's like what are you gonna do? Like, I love you, we'll be best friends but like we're both just, we can't.
Jordan
You can open up a daycare we
Danny
could just for you imagine like we get together and we have just, just us like hanging out with eight kids. Like that's crazy. I mean, why do you think families have such, I mean. Yeah, why do families here in Nashville have such big families? Why, why do they have so many kids?
Jordan
I think it's cultural pronatalism. Yeah. Danny listened to a podcast on that today.
Danny
Very interesting movement. It's actually not religious. They're just trying to prevent. Well, it's not sec. Yeah, they're just trying to prevent population decline and preserving like different types of communities.
Jordan
I'm going to be honest, I don't, I don't understand why everything crumbles with the birth rate declining. I don't understand the argument.
Danny
Let's ask our producer one moment. I mean I'm sure it has a lot of effects on. Okay, so well, and then what also like, is AI going to kind of counteract that?
Jordan
I know.
Danny
Or does that actually like, is AI going to eventually just like also decrease like population because there's not as many jobs?
Jordan
I kind of agree. That's like if, if everything is automated or more things are automated and robots are doing not all manual labor, probably not like trade work, but a lot of the manual labor. Wouldn't that be an argument for population decline because there's just not enough work.
Danny
Right. There's not as much work.
Jordan
But then what the pro AI people say is that now you have more
Danny
time to have kids.
Jordan
Is that the whole paradigm of trading time for money is going to shift and change because you can't really like do that anymore because everything is essentially automated, especially with like white collar work. So then it's. So that's where they talk about like universal basic income.
Danny
Well, because here's another thing. So if AI is taking more jobs, then what about like taxes? Is that going to change taxes? Like the government won't be able to like get as much money from us because.
Jordan
Well, you'll have to read that book about the Federal Reserve. It'll never happen.
Sponsor Host 1
What?
Jordan
I don't think they'll ever, they'll ever take away our taxes. It's just too much of a self licking ice cream cone.
Danny
Right. But if there's not as many people working, then there's not so much money to tax.
Producer
They're going to tax the heck out of the huge companies that make trillions of dollars on AI.
Jordan
They'll tax some people. Maybe it goes from like the individual level to the corporate level.
Danny
Okay, but I mean, so, so I was reading about Or. No, I'm sorry, I wasn't reading about it. I was listening to Aaron Brockovich. She went on Sean Ryan and then went on the Avon. She's, like, really doing, like, Julia Roberts. Yeah, the Julia Robbers. Yeah, the. The real one. She's very against data centers being built.
Sponsor Host 1
The only thing is, if you listen
Danny
to the podcast and you're like, why? And, like, give me some facts. She's not. She don't really explain why very well. She was just like. I mean, it uses a lot of water, which is not good. I wish there was another way to cool these big facilities.
Sponsor Host 2
Yeah.
Danny
But besides that, it was just kind of hard. Hard to follow. But then it was like, a lot of cities are incentivizing data centers being built, like, in their city, like, they want. They, like, don't tax data centers as much. Like, why is that?
Jordan
Well, just to be cynical for a second, I don't know. Erin Brockovich loved the movie, but didn't she. Isn't the whole concept of the movie that she basically found that there was, like, leakage or spillover from a plant into the water supply of a community and they were all getting cancer.
Sponsor Host 1
Yes.
Jordan
Okay.
Danny
So, like, frogs had two heads.
Jordan
Frogs had two heads. So she was the one who discovered that.
Sponsor Host 2
And she was, like, a paralegal, and
Jordan
they took on big business to fight that. Right.
Sponsor Host 1
Well, she wasn't.
Danny
But her company that she was working for.
Jordan
Yeah, but in the movie, like, her role, she was the one who was spearheading it.
Danny
Yes, she was.
Jordan
So if I'm Erin Brockovich, I know water. Right. And I know.
Danny
Oh, okay. Yeah, she knows water.
Jordan
She knows water, and she's like, I know what contaminating water can do, and.
Danny
Well, it's not just contaminating water. Yeah, it is, I guess, contaminated water, but it's also just like the taking water, the millions of gallons used sometimes, like, on a daily basis. Yeah, taking water.
Jordan
Yeah. So it's been a minute since she's had, like, a big win.
Danny
If I were water. I'm coming back in, baby.
Jordan
I'm coming for these.
Danny
Well, I thought it was interesting that she went, like, on Sean Ryan and then immediately on Theo Vaughn. But I think that there's, like. Yeah, there's. It's.
Sponsor Host 1
It's a concern.
Danny
It's.
Jordan
Yeah, no, it's concern. I don't really know much about it. I mean, the only thing I know that freaks me out when it comes to water is. Do you remember that movie, the Big Short?
Danny
Yeah.
Jordan
Okay, so the real guy behind that Name was Michael Burry. One of the guys who, about the
Danny
names, like, how did you remember that?
Jordan
So, so, so Michael Burry was like one of the guys who basically shorted the housing market and like create it, like went to banks and was like, they were like, no one's ever shorted the housing market. And he's like, I want you to create me a product that I can short the housing market.
Sponsor Host 2
And he was right.
Jordan
And at the end of the movie they say, you know, Michael Burry of Scion Capital or whatever spends all of his time shorting one new asset, which is water. So basically, he's basically saying we're going to run out of water, there's going to be a water scarcity crisis. That's always freaked me out. He's been wrong, I think a lot since his big win with the housing market. Yeah, like, I think a lot of people actually laugh at him because of how wrong he is about certain other things.
Danny
Right.
Jordan
But that freaks me out about water scarcity.
Danny
Yeah.
Jordan
I don't know, maybe, maybe Erin's right. What was her point? What were her points?
Danny
That's the thing is there's not really like a. I guess her thing is that we need to find another way to cool these big places because don't a lot of cities kind of like the infrastructure kind of needs like AI to keep up and like compete basically?
Jordan
Like what, what we're told, which who knows if it's true or not, is there's an AI race between countries. It's like the space race.
Danny
Yeah, I mean I, I believe that.
Jordan
Okay, so like if China cracks AI faster than we do, then they're going to be more advanced than we are. That's like the, the, the, the more global view of it. So in order to power AI, we don't have an issue with the actual code and the intelligence because I feel like the models are all kind of roughly the same. In fact, China just came out with, I think it's called Kimi and it was like, so the leading model right now is Anthropics Claude. And Kimi is open sourced in China and it beat our models.
Danny
So Anthropics is not open source?
Jordan
No, it's closed. And so their whole valuation is built on them having the best model. And then China's like, hey, like here's an open source version.
Danny
So is open source though. Wouldn't that make it a little biased?
Jordan
No, open source means it's like kind of like built like the whole community can improve it.
Danny
I know. So wouldn't it be, like, biased in some ways?
Jordan
No, I think people would say that Anthropics is probably more biased because. Because it's closed and we don't know. Like, we have no idea what their code is, like instructing the models to say or do or whatever. But so the models are all commoditized now. So then the only thing holding back these models is power and compute, which is data centers.
Danny
Yeah.
Jordan
So I think I've talked about this in the podcast, but Kevin o', Leary, the Shark Tank guy, he invested in a data center in Utah, and he was going to make a ton of money from it. So, like, it was going through zoning and all of these. They call them NIMBYs, like, develop real estate. Developers have a term called NIMBYs, which is like the. Not in my backyards, people. And it's like. It's like a tale as old as time. Someone told me this was in the Fox and the Hound, but I never watched that movie. But it's like developer versus, like, the townspeople. Right? Big bad developer. So developers called the townspeople NIMBYs. The. The. The townspeople called developers, like, big bad wolf. So NIMBYs are basically like the ones that go into these city council meetings and just stir ish up and like, block things and, like, block the zoning. And Kevin o', Leary, like, did a bunch of research, and I don't know if this is, like, just really good PR on his end, but he traced a bunch of the IP addresses on, like, Twitter and, like, these, like, opposition forums, and they all went to, like, foreign governments. And so his big stance was, listen,
Danny
that they're trying to slow us down in the AI race.
Jordan
Yeah. Is that like, literally, like, it's a very coordinated, nonprofit NGO attack to slow down data centers going into the US So that we fall behind on the great race.
Danny
This is just kind of crazy, but
Jordan
if you're going to attack it, it's the way to attack it for sure. So I don't really know, but the only thing that made me believe that that was true was when Olivia was on. Olivia was on the podcast and she was like, I said no to the data center. And I go, oh, that's so interesting that you're interested.
Danny
They were gonna build it next to the Nashville. The zoo.
Jordan
Right. Which is fine. I would oppose that too. But I was like, really? Cause Olivia's not civically active, from my understanding. And she was like, she's had a
Danny
baby, so she's a little busy.
Jordan
And I was like, really? Like, why did you get involved in that. And she goes, well, it's hurting the animal's hearing. And I go, what do you mean? And she was like, I saw this thing on Facebook, and it was like this huge campaign that if you don't block the data center in Nashville, then all of these animals are going to go deaf. And I was like, that's so interesting to me because it's like, do you
Danny
think that was a campaign from China?
Jordan
My personal opinion is I think that they tried to scare people with, like, water scarcity. And people were like, ah, whatever, I'll just buy Ozarka.
Producer
And.
Jordan
And then once they were like, listen, you're going to hurt the animals, they found an angle that worked, and the. The. The strategy just, like, took off. And so now it's like, I don't know if the Nashville one's going to happen, but it was hugely opposed.
Producer
I found Joel's answer. John, your answer to your question.
Jordan
Yeah. Why does. Why does Time magazine not like the Odyssey?
Danny
Oh, no, no.
Producer
Well, that was like, their review is so long. I'm trying to find a more condensed version of the Time magazine thing because they're just really rambling about it. Yeah, I was trying to find something concise. Couldn't. But okay.
Sponsor Host 1
The.
Producer
The data center, like, motivating data centers to come here is just an economy thing because I think Google and big tech companies will follow the data centers. So it's just city trying to make more money.
Danny
But. And it also gives more jobs in terms of construction.
Producer
It is more jobs. Yes, more jobs.
Danny
And, you know, but in the long run, it could take more jobs.
Producer
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And then the.
Jordan
The Trojan horse, the birth rate thing
Producer
is because, for us is because of the boomers, because there's way too many of them and not enough of us. So, like, us pouring into Social Security, like, it was like a piggy bank. It explained it. So they put all their stuff in the piggy bank, and then there's just so many of them now collecting on it. It's like a seesaw. They're like, there's way too many people on the old side and not enough people on the young side. So everything just crashes.
Jordan
Yeah. I've always just been told to never like our generation, to never depend on Social Security.
Danny
Right. But that's, like, what our parents all, like, live for.
Jordan
No, for sure.
Producer
It, like, won't be left.
Jordan
There won't be anything left.
Danny
So don't plan on it.
Jordan
So what was I gonna say? Oh, and the reason they have. The reason they have to do it so central to cities is because that's where the fiber cables are.
Danny
Oh, that's why.
Jordan
So, so it's hard because you, you can't just like, go to, like West Texas and build these data centers. I always wondered that because it has to be connected to the fiber optic cables and they don't run out there. So it would cost a fortune to run the cables out there. So that's why these data centers have to be in the cities. They hurt the infrastructure of the city. The city is not used to needing to power something like that. And so it is very cumbersome to put these in place because of where they have to go.
Danny
And they're loud, allegedly.
Jordan
I don't know.
Sponsor Host 2
Are they?
Danny
I've heard they're loud.
Jordan
I think they're bright.
Danny
Bright?
Jordan
Yes. Like, I think that in Utah, what they were worried is blinding the animals. I think that it was like it was going to hurt. Like the, the light pollution is what they call it.
Danny
What? Oh, my gosh.
Jordan
That's why Utah people, I think, were upset because they were like, we look up and we see the stars.
Danny
Oh, and then they're not going to
Jordan
be able to see. Yeah, just like New Yorkers. Like, you can't look up and see the stars because the light pollution.
Danny
Wow.
Jordan
I know.
Danny
This is so complicated.
Jordan
I know, I know. But honestly, what, what it's telling me is it's just another check mark of, like, why people are going to move further and further out of cities.
Danny
Well, I was gonna say, I think the reason why people have bigger families here is like, I. I almost feel like to have a big family, like, you kind of have to be away from everything. That's the only way that, that it works. Like, that's why I think where we lived in Dallas, people had two kids. Like, everyone had two kids. If you had three kids, it was like, whoa, you got your hands full. And here it's like, if you have three kids, they're like, when's the fourth? When's like. And I feel like it's because, I mean, there is more space here. It's also, I will say, a little bit more peaceful. You know, it's beautiful. Like, you can kind of relax and smell the grass and the flowers. And I feel like. But people, even whenever we talk to anyone that like, lives in Nashville, like, everyone's planning on even moving, like, further out. Yeah, right.
Jordan
And so. And I think it was. There's like one country, it's either Romania or Hungary, I can't remember, but their birth rate is Actually, on the Incline,
Danny
I think it's like, Norway maybe.
Jordan
But the article I read was either Romania or Hungary. And this article was talking about what they believe is the number one reason is that it comes down to, like, the way that the mothers are honored and respected. And one of the things that, like,
Danny
it's almost like the narrative around, like,
Jordan
right now, I think in Western culture, it's like, you
Sponsor Host 2
and you.
Jordan
Don't let me trip up here. But I think women are expected to now work.
Danny
But also, oh, yeah, my whole, like, childhood, it was like, it was all about Danny. Like, when you grew up, you can be whatever you want to be. Like, you don't. Like, it was never about, like, being a mom. It was like, you can go be a doctor, a lawyer, all these things. And then, like, reality hits you and you're like, but how am I going to be that and support myself and live in the city and have kids?
Jordan
No, for sure.
Danny
And not get hate about having a nanny 24 7. Like, it's like, wait, this doesn't really add up, like, how I was being encouraged. It doesn't really make sense. And then it's also like, if I wanted to go be a doctor, by the time I could have kids, I might struggle to have kids because it takes. It took me so long to get my education and to get everything I need. Like, it just. It doesn't make sense.
Jordan
Yeah, well. So, like, I feel like we got married in the girl boss era.
Danny
Totally.
Jordan
Which I was. Hey, loved you, married you. It was amazing.
Danny
Such a girl boss.
Jordan
But in that era, I feel like this is what I now look back and feel like is really unfair to women, is that in that era, it was like, that was what was esteemed and put on a pedestal is being a career woman and building a business and being an entrepreneur like the Poppy founder. But then at the same time, no one was like, oh, and by the way, like, you can give up all these other responsibilities that were more traditional of, like, here's kind of what your role and responsibility looks like with your children. And, like, here's what your role and responsibility looks like in the home. So then it kind of just felt like this giant weight was more put onto.
Danny
I will say. Yeah, and I will say something interesting about moving here is I feel a little, like, insecure sometimes in, like, my role as a female here because I feel like no one values me for my job here or my work. Like, and I feel like when I compare myself to other moms here, they're, like, so much More like, hospitable. Or they, like, cook all the time, or they have, like, these traditions with their families, or they're just, like, better moms than me, to be honest. And they have, like, more experience. Experience being a better mom and, like, providing for the community or, like, and they don't work at all. And then I. I come in, I'm like, I feel like I'm so far behind. Like, I feel like I've. I. When I first started having kids, like, valued, like, growing in my career way more than those things. And now I'm like, I don't know how to make a roast. Like, I don't know how to, like, host people. Like, I don't know any of these things because I valued something different. And now, like, what is valued here in Nashville? I feel like I don't have that. And I'm like, do I need to take cooking classes?
Producer
Only certain suburbs, by the way. It's not. That's not true of Nashville in general.
Danny
I think maybe it's like, general is
Producer
like, a big female entrepreneurship town.
Danny
Well, maybe it's, like, the outskirts of Nashville, maybe the suburbs and the family culture. When I say Nashville, like, we're not really hanging out in, like, the city, like, right now. Like, I'm.
Sponsor Host 1
We're.
Danny
We're going to be moving to, like, a suburb of.
Producer
I'm just saying you have value here.
Danny
No, I know. I matter to us. I know. And. And I don't mean it as, like, a. A bad thing or a good. Like, it's just kind of like, sometimes I find myself feeling a little insecure in these situations where I'm like, you made this whole meal for all these people. I was like, that. That sounds so much harder to me than, like, starting a company. Like, I like moms that, like, can cook and provide and do. I'm like, I feel silly because I. I don't know how to do any of that.
Jordan
I don't think you're alone, by the way, because, like, I think that the males. Like, it's like, the equivalent of what you're feeling is, like, the fathers here are like, hey, I just got back from a fishing trip, and we have young boys. But, like, they're like, hey, I just took my three boys on a fishing trip to Alaska. Or, like, hey, we just went on a hunt together. And even, like, the fathers are. It's just culturally different, right? Like, great mothers and fathers where we came from. Great mothers and fathers everywhere. But, like, my whole point with, like, the hungry thing is, like, I think that women here are honored for, like, their motherhood, which is, like, what they should always be honored for, you know? And in a perfect world, it can all be done right. Like, you can be everything. But I think that a big part of, like, our humanity that we've realized over the past two years, like, both of us.
Danny
Yeah.
Jordan
Is that, like, we can't do everything. Like, we can't.
Danny
Yeah.
Jordan
Like, we can't.
Danny
Or there's different seasons for different goals.
Jordan
Like, we can't be on planes and building these, like, crazy big businesses and be present with, like, four kids.
Danny
And that's the lie. I feel like we were fed for so long, though, and I could. I truly was, like, yes, I can. And, like, if anyone's going to do it, I'm going to, like, you know, and. And I think it works.
Jordan
Pre Stella turning three.
Danny
I was gonna say. I was gonna say it works up until your kids, like, start to really notice, and they, like, really need a consistent presence in their life. And that's kind of what changed everything for me. I think that's why I even, like, considered moving, kind of, like starting fresh again. That doesn't mean I don't have help. Like, I still need a nanny to watch my newborn whenever I am podcasting right now. Like, of course, like, we didn't just leave our kids at home, you know, by themselves. And so. So, yeah, I mean, like you said, in a perfect world, we would be able to do it all. But it's just now, as I've gotten older and I think, too, I have peace in, like, feeling like I did achieve a lot of the goals that I wanted to achieve, like, as an independent person, like, as Dani. So now I feel like I can step into, like, kind of slowing down and being that role, that person, that. That mother that's honored here, whatever. But it's sometimes hard to, like, let go of the goals and the dreams. Like, and I think it's probably. That's probably true for every mom. You know, it's like, it's just constantly trying to, like, you're on this, like, pendulum swinging back and forth, and you're like, wait, but, like, I want to start a business. I want to do this. But wait, I want to be with my kids. I feel guilty. Like, it's just. I bet it's very common.
Jordan
Yeah, I. You know, kind of like what producer was saying. I. I also don't want you to feel that shame here, because I didn't
Danny
mean it as a negative thing. I don't feel shame.
Jordan
Almost like yeah, sorry. Maybe insecure.
Danny
Insecure.
Jordan
Insecure And. Or in, like, maybe just even super positive, like, inspired by, like, some of these.
Danny
Like, I am inspired by them. I think it's incredible.
Jordan
And that's what I've appreciated, like, just flipping it as a positive. Like, I think that the culture that we're now surrounded with is so inspiring of, like, how you do raise, like, bigger families, how you do raise, like, good kids like, that know Jesus. Like, the modeling that we're able to just kind of like, look and perceive is gonna, like, make me a better dad and make you a better mom.
Danny
It challenges us in, like, a healthy
Jordan
way in a totally different way. And I mean, I think that when you and I just, like, talk about our last three weeks of moving here, that's probably what I'm like most. I feel like God has been so faithful in, like, showing us. Because I think if we wouldn't have had this, like, these examples around us, it would have been harder for us to figure this out on our own. And because it's a culture, the craziest part about the culture is, like, with the mothers and the fathers and raising families, being so esteemed, it does make you be like, should we have more kids?
Danny
No, I'm, like, sick in the head. Like, I want another child.
Jordan
No, I feel that. And I'm like.
Danny
Like, I'm. I'm actually, like, mentally ill. And it's because, like, I.
Jordan
Psychotic.
Danny
It's psychotic. Like, I'm drowning. Like, Smith was up at 2:30 last night and, like. And I made Jordan get up and do the bottle. Like, I'm like. And then we get like five or six hours of sleep. I'm. I am, like, sickly every morning. Like, when I wake up, I feel like I'm gonna throw up because I'm so tired.
Producer
And.
Danny
And then we're like, should we have another one?
Jordan
Like, it's because, like, at the same time, like, I literally was so tired this morning, I went to that Bible study and I just sat by myself and got a taco.
Danny
People are like, why aren't you, like, hanging out? You're like, cause I have four kids. I can't. I'm exhausted.
Jordan
No, I just. I just sat and ate a taco. And I was like, man, I feel like I have no. Like, I have no margin right now. And I was like, is it. And I was thinking to myself, I was like, is it because of the move? Is it because we have four. Four kids? Is because Smith's not sleeping through night? Probably all of the Above. But at the same time, I think that, like, there's been times where you and I looked at each other, and we're like. We're kind of the happiest we've ever been. No, for sure, like, the most satisfied. Like, because in that kind of, like, the trenches, as people say about our lives, with this. These young kids, like, I feel like you and I have both provided for each other and partnered for each with each other in a way that we never.
Danny
It's survival mode, literally.
Jordan
Yeah.
Sponsor Host 2
But it makes.
Jordan
I know that you feel more loved. Loved by me and vice versa.
Danny
Yeah. Because we're roughing it out there. I'm like, you go cut those cardboard boxes down, babe. We're not hiring a service to do it. Mike, I want to see you out there with that. That cutting knife. What do you call it? Little razor blade.
Jordan
Yeah. The zipper thing.
Danny
It's like me watching, like, Michael landed on, like, House on the Prairie. I'm like, that's my man.
Jordan
Yeah. The biggest thing. So, you know, I think that where we sit today is there's been, like, multiple times these past, like, three weeks where, like, we've stopped and paused and been like, hey, like, I feel like we're bringing too much of Dallas here. And I still think we're trying to
Danny
figure out it's old habits. It's not Dallas.
Jordan
It's like, old habits are old habits from where we lived in Dallas, whether it be, like, too much help in this area or, like, not enough help here. And it's like, it's. We're still trying to calibrate, like, how much of our old habits and old lives do die and not come here.
Danny
Yeah.
Jordan
And I feel like routines. Yeah, routines. And that's kind of like what's probably the hardest on me right now is
Danny
because here's the thing. Jordan is a fixer, and he does not like to see me uncomfortable. Right?
Jordan
No. I don't know. I just want.
Danny
No. And so, like, when you have a newborn and, like, a lot of children, like, there's a lot of really uncomfortable moments, and I. What? It's almost like whenever you're working out, it's like there are times with your kids where, like, you're so exhausted, you're so sleep deprived, one screaming on the ground, one's doing this, and it's like, in it, you're just like, I'm gonna lose my mind. But then, you know, an hour later, when everything is calm, you're like, wow. I feel like that was a good, teachable lesson. I Feel like that was a good moment with my kids. I feel like I influenced them in the right way. It was hard, but, like, we all made it through it, and, like, you know, we all learned from it. Jordan looks. I look at it like that. Jordan looks at it as like, okay, we have to fix that. We can't ever let that happen again. Right. And so you're always like, how can I prevent that from happening? Do we need to have a stricter routine? Do we need to have help in this area? Do we need to put them in a summer camp? Do we need to, like. And for me, I'm like, I just want to live in it and, like, just figure it out and take it, like, day by day and take it slow. And Jordan's, like, a fixer. Right. I feel like a lot of guys are.
Jordan
Yeah, no, it's not bad. It's not a bad thing.
Danny
And Jordan is. If I'm in a bad mood, Jordan's in a bad mood. Some would call it codependent.
Jordan
Yeah, that's what I was like. That's why I was, like, thinking, because I was like, you know. Yes. I don't, like. I think I'm a very firm believer in, like, happy wife, happy life. And so it's like, sometimes. And I don't think this is healthy or fair to myself, but, like, sometimes I'm like, oh, if Danny's struggling or unhappy, like, that's like, kind of on me to, like, help resolve.
Danny
See, that's not.
Jordan
No, it's not. It's not true. It's not true. And it's not fair. And also, I think that what also happens in those moments is it's not entirely selfish, selfless. Because I think that that paints me as, like, a really good person.
Danny
No, you want me to be good so that you can be happy.
Jordan
Yeah. And it's. And it's also. I, like, also want you to be supported because I know that if you're not, like, I'll probably step in, and then I feel stretched really thin.
Danny
It's the same thing, like, when you see someone at the gym struggling to raise the bar over their head, and then you go up and help, that's actually not helping them. That's actually, like, stunting their growth and stunting. And, like, what's really going to help them if they figure out how to do it on their own, and two weeks later, they're like, oh, I look in the mirror and I'm like, look what I did for myself. And, like, that's going to actually Help them.
Jordan
Yeah.
Danny
So you're always trying to, like, lift the bar a little bit for me.
Jordan
Yeah, true. But we. I mean, I feel like this has been like a huge theme in our marriage, like, the past, like, three years. And I feel like what. What showed me how far we've come is like, you. You kind of signaled to me yesterday. You were like, hey, like, I'm kind of worried that you're fixing this too much. And I listened and I heard, and I was like, okay, I hear you. And it was just really good for us to, like, communicate through that.
Producer
Yeah.
Jordan
Because, like, I'm like, I don't want to lift the bar. If you want to lift the bar.
Danny
No, I want to lift the bar, but just, like, it's going to be hard in the moment. Like, when I'm lifting the bar, I'm not going to be like, oh, woo. This is so fun. Like, it's hard. And that's okay, right? It's okay. And like, that's. It's okay to, like, let someone struggle for a second.
Jordan
Yeah, it's.
Danny
And, like, learn and give them the space to, like, figure it out. Because maybe they don't figure out that day and maybe it's not the second day, but, like, I'm a slow learner. I'm a slow processor. I'm slow everything. I don't know what I feel for a week.
Jordan
No, for sure. And it's like, it's kind of like a. I think I called it something on the podcast one time. It's like good husband syndrome. Like. Cause when we all started having kids, like my Dallas friends, we all kind of went through the same thing where we were like, man, we just want to help our wives or we want to fix this or we want to do this. And we all kind of at the same time learned that it's actually like a disease on our part because by helping, we actually cripple you to be able to learn and be the mother that you want to be on accident. We think we're doing something good.
Danny
Yeah.
Jordan
But it's actually preventing you from becoming stronger and becoming more confident. And the biggest states of depression that I think Dani has ever been in is when she feels ill equipped to. To, like, not ill equipped.
Danny
I feel like my. My. My purpose has been taken from me.
Jordan
Purpose has been taken. Yet you feel isolated because you're like, okay, now. Like, all of these things that, like, I want to be struggling through, like, I can't struggle through because they're fixed, you know? And I think we've even learned this about like, ourselves is that, you know, people who like, make a lot of money and you know, have all this wealth and can have all these people do everything for them typically end up being the most miserable people because, like, if you don't have friction in your life, you're going to create friction, you know, like, because we're just born and need some type of purpose.
Danny
Sorry, but this is not to say we don't have friction early.
Jordan
No, no, no, no. We, we do.
Danny
I have like 26, 000 people that hate me.
Jordan
Yeah, no, we, we do. But like, I, I'm kind of talking about the quintessential person of like, you know, you, you. For you.
Danny
Yeah, the.
Jordan
You're not able to do anything for yourself anymore. And actually you. You want to be able to do things for yourself, you know, because that's what brings the joy of like, you know, being able to cook or being able to do this or being able to do this.
Danny
Like the messy mom special rewarding.
Jordan
And I think that that's what we're feeling right now is like nothing's perfectly figured out and there's a lot of friction.
Danny
It's okay to sit in uncomfort.
Jordan
Yes.
Danny
Because a lot of like, you don't
Sponsor Host 1
like to be uncomfortable.
Jordan
Me?
Danny
Yeah.
Jordan
No, I do not.
Danny
Like, it's okay to be uncomfortable and like, not know what things are going to look like.
Jordan
I didn't know what I was going to.
Danny
And then if something was going to fail. It's okay if it fails. Yeah. You know?
Jordan
Yeah.
Danny
Okay.
Jordan
Yeah.
Sponsor Host 1
True.
Danny
Speaking of family time, where are we going next week going, Tom?
Jordan
Oh, first time ever going to Costa Rica.
Danny
I'm a little scared about Costa Rica. It was one of those places we actually kind of been avoiding a little bit.
Jordan
We almost went one time, but then they had a. A large number of cases of people being roofied.
Danny
Oh, I didn't know.
Jordan
This was like four years ago.
Sponsor Host 1
Great.
Jordan
Yeah, there were a lot of people getting roofied through drinks.
Danny
Well, I was. I have been avoiding it for a different reason. I don't love bugs and I hear they have a lot of those there and so much that it's like so much so that it. Sometimes people say it's like hard to sleep because the bugs are so loud and I have like a. I really don't like bugs, like at all. So I kind of been avoiding it. But like, I knew I needed to go one day and I know that I think it's going to be so fun because it's A very adventurous place, you know, can, like, go to the jungle and zipline. There's all these, like, fun activities for kids. Plus, it's beautiful, but I just want to put that out there. Like, I will be bringing a lot of book spray.
Jordan
Okay. Yeah. Thank you for.
Danny
And not like the, like. Not like the like, organic one.
Sponsor Host 2
Like the nets that you wear over your head.
Danny
Oh, yeah. No. Oh, yeah. Well, I should a be. Yeah. They might even have those nets that you sleep. Have you? I don't. I had one of those in Africa. But they put like a net over your bed, so the bucks.
Jordan
So we're staying in a nice resort, babe. You're not sleeping in. You're not sleeping in a tent.
Danny
You never know. But that'll be fun.
Jordan
Yeah. I do want to tell you that the helicopter ride. No, it's. It's not a helicopter ride anymore.
Danny
Oh, did you cancel it?
Jordan
Yeah, I couldn't do it.
Danny
Were you thinking about it?
Jordan
Yeah, I can do it.
Danny
See, that's the difference between me and you. So Jordan lives like his enneagram is like fear based right now.
Jordan
I hate it.
Danny
It's hard. So it's like he's always like. And then mine is like, not. And so there was this portion of the trip where we were going to take a helicopter up into the jungle. And Jordan was like, should we do it? And like, in my head, I'm like, yeah, like, we're not gonna, like, not live our lives, you know, because the helicopter. Helicopter could crash. But then I also didn't want to be like, yes, let's do it. And then the helicopter crash and then feel guilty. So I was like, I don't know. You decide. And he really wasn't making the decision. So I finally was like, yeah, let's just do it. I have not thought about it one time since.
Sponsor Host 2
Yeah.
Danny
At all. And I'm sure that this is something that like, keeps you up at night.
Jordan
Well, to be fair, I had an experience. You didn't. I almost died on that plane.
Danny
Okay. Yeah, it's fair.
Jordan
It's fair.
Danny
Jordan almost. Jordan canceled a flight that if he would have taken, crashed.
Jordan
Yes.
Danny
It was actually really scary.
Jordan
Basically, I was waiting for the plane to come and give me, and it crashed. Um, but we're also not taking the bus. We're. We're actually ironically taking a smaller plane. I just didn't want to ride in a helicopter.
Danny
Does it have two engines? The plane. Okay, that's great.
Jordan
And two pilots.
Danny
Yeah. You know, the helicopters are a little sketch. It's like, that propeller goes down.
Jordan
Like, I'm not.
Danny
No, I feel you. I just don't really think about it. Yeah, that's the nice thing about having, like, a little bit smaller of a brain, you know, it's just like, I don't really think about so much. Just kind of like, it's like, it's fine.
Jordan
No, honestly, I think that one of your superpowers is being fully present in every moment. Oh, you know who they also said that had that skill set? Michelangelo very close. Oh, no. Michael Jordan.
Danny
Oh.
Jordan
They said that what made Michael Jordan great is that he was always just fully present. And that's very much a characteristic that you have.
Danny
Is like, that is so true to the. But it's like. Hurts me. I'm like the type of girl, like, I'm like, I'm going to go for an hour and like, I'll say till midnight, because I am just, like, so in the moment.
Jordan
Well, no. And you give the best of yourself wherever you commit your moments. But it is harder to be a part of Danny's entourage because you just literally have no idea what's going to happen tomorrow. So you better keep your life and your schedule pretty flexible because it'll be awesome.
Danny
Yeah.
Jordan
But that's probably one of the greatest.
Danny
I'm like the person that's like, okay, I'll stop by for 30 minutes. Like, do I have to go and, like, I'll go and, like, have the best time of my life. Like, never want to leave in my
Jordan
mind is like, okay, we just kept our kids out till 11, but they have this tomorrow. And this tomorrow.
Danny
Don't even think about it.
Jordan
Yeah. And I'm like, hey, this is gonna be a spiral downward. And you're like.
Danny
I'm like, ugh, what a sad way to live. You know, it's horrible.
Jordan
It probably is.
Danny
Honestly, it's horrible. It's always thinking of the next thing.
Jordan
It probably is. But no, another fun fact. This is a little bit morbid, but interesting. Do you remember, do you remember when I proposed to you there? You. I flew you from Malibu to downtown LA in a helicopter. Well, fun fact. One of the helicopter that you rode in, the one I was actually going to get you, but it was just too expensive for me at the time. Was actually Kobe's pilot in Kobe's helicopter.
Danny
How did you know that?
Jordan
Because I talked to the guy who flew it.
Danny
Really?
Jordan
Yeah. I don't know if he was the pilot that died or anything, but I don't know. So technically, we both had similar situations, which Means that we both should not be flying in helicopters or small planes. Technically. But I'm not going to take a five hour bus ride.
Sponsor Host 1
Yeah.
Jordan
With four kids.
Danny
So be praying for our plane ride in Costa Rica.
Jordan
The other thing I would tell you is that there's no option around this. We leave to come home back to Nashville at 2pm from the jungle.
Danny
Oh, gosh. I already know what that means.
Jordan
We give back to midnight.
Sponsor Host 1
Oh.
Danny
Which means. Oh, gosh.
Sponsor Host 1
So just prepare.
Jordan
But hey, listen, let's live like you.
Danny
I'm like, this sounds kind of fun. This is like daylight savings day.
Jordan
I was like, this morning he told me that the guy booking our flights
Sponsor Host 2
and I was like.
Jordan
I was like, should we literally cancel the trip for this one moment of discomfort?
Danny
Oh, my gosh.
Jordan
I know, I know, but I stopped myself.
Danny
This one moment of discomfort. See, you look at it as discomfort. I look at it as like a challenge, adventure.
Jordan
I know that's why we're married. I know that's why. No, truly. What did I say to you? I was like, if I. If we hadn't gotten married, I'd probably be a loser. I think I said a fat loser.
Danny
It's horrible.
Sponsor Host 1
But same.
Jordan
Yeah, okay.
Danny
I'd be like, never mind.
Jordan
Do you have anything else you want to talk about in the. In your script there?
Danny
Okay, let me look at my script really fast.
Jordan
We have to do another podcast on Thursday too.
Danny
Just so, like, save my Nordstrom anniversary sale updates. No, I mean, I think this has been great.
Jordan
See, I. We always.
Danny
This has been a little bit more serious of a pod.
Jordan
You think so?
Danny
Yeah, but I think it's good. Yeah, it's super educational. You bring in all those facts in.
Producer
Yeah.
Jordan
Your turn next time. I have. I'm in a rut. I. I'm now I. I don't know where I'm gonna go next.
Danny
Where you're like, what, you're gonna deep dive in?
Jordan
Yeah, I don't. I don't have anything. This is always kind of the. The calm.
Danny
Yeah, yeah, we'll find something. Maybe leave a comment of like, what should Jordan deep dive on next?
Jordan
I was thinking maybe like Lewis and Queen Clark.
Danny
Oh, that could be good. And then we can watch all the Lewis and Clark movies out there.
Jordan
I don't think there are many. Oh, Pocahontas. No, sorry, that was Sacajawea.
Danny
Well, thank you guys for listening to this podcast. Make sure you check us out on Instagram and TikTok at D Influence podcast. We love you guys and we'll talk to you later.
