Brothers and sisters, this has been said so many times, but we have to be reminded over and over again that many of us, we have challenges. There's no doubt we all have various types of challenges. Every person sitting here in this jummah khutba has different types of challenges. Sometimes those challenges are related to our finances. Sometimes those challenges are related to our families. Sometimes those challenges are related to the future. What exactly is going to happen? We have this constant worry, this anxiety and this worry and concern that what's going to happen in the future? What does the future hold for me? The reason why we hustle and we bustle so much, the reason why we try to do whatever we can to earn so much money is because we have this anxiety that, God forbid, what if I don't have a financial income source? What if I don't have money coming in? I have enough that I can take care of my family. What's going to happen to my children? What's going to happen to the faith in the Islam of my children, we always have these kind of anxieties. And Allah subhanahu wataala through his sheer mercy and through his Rahmah he has given us the solution to majority of the problems that you and I, we go through on a daily basis. Whether it is the Ayat of the Qur'an and the stories of the Ambiya that are mentioned in the Qur'an. Because according to the Hadith of Rasulullah, there are there are hundred and twenty four thousand, one hundred twenty four thousand Ambiya that were sent by Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. And there were 310, an odd amount of number of rasool and messengers that were sent by Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. And out of all of these people, out of all these messengers and prophets, Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala chose to mention only a handful of their stories in the Quran. Because Allah knows within his own infinite wisdom the challenges that you and I will face. And these stories will serve as a way to console us. It will provide us solutions and subhanallah. When we can't find our solution in the Quran, we always resort back to the Seerah of Rasulullah and we go and we search and dive into the Seerah of the Prophet. And I tell you honestly that if you do not find your solution and your answer in the Quran, you will most certainly find it in the Seerah of Rasulullah. And that is why I've talked about this before, that we need to study the life of the Prophet because it is rich and it is filled with gems and lessons and reflections. Today, inshaallah, in this brief khutbah, I want to talk about that. How do we overcome our fears? A lot of times we are put in a situation, we don't know exactly what to do. So there are few steps that we can take in order to help us overcome anxiety or fears. Whether something that has already taken place, something that we are in, or something that may happen in the future. The very first thing that we have to always understand is that we put our trust in Allah subhanahu wataala. We put our trust in the system of Allah subhanahu wataala. And that means that I don't need to know the Hikmah and the wisdom behind everything. But when I say that I believe in Allah, what iman is when we recite the Quran and Surah al Baqarah, Allah says that you believe in the unseen. Believe is not only that I believe that Allah subhanahu Wa ta'ala exists. You don't only believe that I worship Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. And he is the only one who is worthy of worship. And I believe in Rasulullah. But Iman also implies that we put our trust in Allah, subhanahu wa ta'ala. That whatever Allah is doing, yes, I may not understand the Hikmah and the wisdom, but I put my trust in Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. That he is Ahkamul Hakimin. He is the source of all wisdom and he knows what he is doing. Yes, we see what has happened in Syria. Yes, we see what has happened in Turkey. But at the same time, and yes, our hearts, our condolences, our duas go out to those, the families who have been affected. But at the same time, when these kind of things happen, you have to take a step back and say, I don't know what is going on, but I do know that Allah made this happen and I put my iman in Allah. It is at these kind of times that often our iman is put to test what is our response? And therefore we find even in the Quran, so many times ayat were revealed by Allah. And one of the key things that Allah wanted to see after the ayat were revealed was what is the response of the people when the Quran, when the Ayat were revealed, about the changing of the Qibla. Think about it for a moment. Three times Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala mentioned that turn your face to the Ka'bah. Why three times? Wasn't one time sufficient? But Allah, according to many of the ulama of the Mufasiroon, they say that one of the key things was Allah wanted to see the response of the people. So when these kind of things happen, Allah wants to see our response. And at that time, if a person says, I don't understand the situation, but I put my trust in Allah, subhanahu wa ta'ala. Just like a loving mother, just like a loving father, when they tell their kids to do certain things, the kid does not understand the Hikmah and the wisdom. But years later, when we have become teenagers, when we have become adults, we look back at our mother and our father and we thank them for that. Why? Because at that time, we never understood their wisdom. But now as parents, now when we see how they did things in our life when we were kids, now we appreciate them. Because brothers and sisters, at that time, our minds were so. Our minds were so immature at that time and they were so small at that time that we could not understand wisdom. We could not understand the wisdom behind certain things that our parents are telling us. Likewise, Allah is even more loving than our parents. Allah is even more merciful than our own parents. So do you think that Allah would do something not out of wisdom? Allah has wisdom behind every single thing. When we look at the story of Musa, this is a story, by the way, that is mentioned in a surah. The story of the mother of Musa is mentioned in a surah that begins with the concept of iman. In the very beginning of the surah, Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says that you recite these verses of the Quran but they can only be effective towards a person who believes in Allah. Because if you don't put your trust in Allah, then you will lose your iman and Allah. So Allah says the criteria to understanding this story is that you have to have belief in Allah and you have to have trust in Allah's system. When Musa's mother is being told that put your child in a basket, this who would any person. Would any parent in their sane mind put their baby, put their child in water? No, we don't even find that happening. Even nowadays when the bathtub gets only this much filled, parents sometimes can lose their mind because they're worried about the safety of the child. Think about putting a child in the river in a basket and that best basket can flip all over their animals in that river. And not only that, but that river will pass by whose palace? It will pass by fir's palace. But when Allah subhanahu wataala tells the mother of Musa, put him in the basket, that is where she said that I put my trust in Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. Logic tells me that this doesn't make sense. Logic tells me that if I'm trying to protect my child, why would I put him in water? Logic tells me that if I'm trying to protect him from Firaun and this river is going to pass by Firaun's palace, how does that make sense? But when it comes to making sense and putting our Tawakkul and believing in Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala, then tawakkul supersedes logic. And that is where we put our trust in Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. And that is why she put Musa in the basket. And that is why Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala even highlighted this. Because a mother, she is filled with emotions. As the basket is going away, she can call out and say, that's my baby. That's my baby. That's my child. And the soldiers would have caught that child. But as she's watching this child go away, she's in a position that she is completely helpless. She's in a position that she is completely out of control. She has no control over the situation. If she calls out, the baby will die. If she leaves a child, the baby will probably die. But that is why Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala he tells us in the Quran, when you put your trust in Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala Allah rewards you for that trust. And Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala said to the mother of Musa, do not fear about what's going to happen. Do not be regretful over your decision. We will return him to you and we will make him a prophet. Think about if a mother is told that your son is going to have such a high status, any parent will be so happy. We want our children to succeed. What a great honor Allah is giving to the mother of Musa that your son is not going to just be an ordinary person. He's going to be one of my prophets. I have selected him and he's going to be one of my prophets. Allah is not only giving her Isaac, but Allah. Subhanahu wa ta'ala is promising her that he will return Musa. And lo and behold, not only the Musa was returned to the mother, but now she was being paid. She was given a stipend to take care of Musa. Which mother is given a stipend, which mother is given a salary to take care of her child. Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala returned Musa. Allah subhan took care of her financial concerns, Allah took care of her future concern. What's gonna happen to my child? If he's a prophet, he's under the protection of Allah. Subhanahu wa ta'ala. This is the reward of putting your trust in Allah. This is what happens. But it takes a lot of courage. No doubt it takes courage. But when you put your trust in Allah, this is what happens. Just like that. We find in the story of Musa that he is being chased by Firaun. With him is Bani Israel. He's taking Bani Israel with him. And you have to understand that the people of Bani Israel, they're being convinced by Musa. Musa is telling them that, oh my nation, oh people of Bani Israel, come with me, I will save you, I will take care of you. Allah is with you. And now the time comes that they come to the sea and right before them is water. There's nowhere to go. And when they turn around, who do they find? They find Firaun and their entire army. Fir'aun is coming with his entire army, his entire arsenal and so forth. And think about at that time, the iman of any person who does not have their true trust in Allah will be shaken at his core. But Musa was a person that he said that if Allah told me to do this, I put my trust in Allah. Subhanahu wa ta'ala. Allah is telling Musa to do something that does not make logical sense to anyone. Prophecy probably. And he's telling Musa, take your stick, take your staff and hit it on the ground, hit it on the water. Any person that would say that at that time would say, how will this make a difference? Even Musa could have said, ya Allah. How will that make a difference? Imagine right now going to the sea right now and taking a stick and hitting on the water. People will call you nuts. But that time Musa, he's taking that stick, he's hitting it on the on the water. He doesn't understand logic. He understands that Allah told him to do something. He put his trust in Allah. Subhanahu wa ta'ala. And lo and behold, something magical happened. Something amazing happened and that is the sea parted. Something that you will never ever see. But this happened in the time of Musa and Musa and his entire group of people are crossing by. This happens when you put your trust in Allah. So when we have fears, whether it's something that is we're currently going through right now, something about the future and so forth, learn how to put your trust in Allah. That doesn't mean that you don't do your part. No, you do your part and you also put your trust in Allah. But we have to also make sure that we learn how to put our trust in Allah. Subhanahu wa ta'ala. The next thing that we have to do when it comes to overcoming our fears is that you'll have to face your fears at times. But inshaallah, know that if you have put your trust in Allah and you'd're doing what Allah has told us to do and you're doing exactly by the seerah of the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam and the teachings of our Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam, then inshaallah, Allah will protect you on the back end. Allah has your back. When Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala told Musa, musa, now you have to take care of your job. What's your job? You are a prophet now. You have to go to Fir'aun. You have to go back to Egypt and you have to invite Fir'aun and so forth. Now you gotta understand, Musa alayhi salam is a human being just like us. Allah understands that he's a human being just like us. Allah will not share stories with us from the Quran about people who are not human. The reason why Allah gave us Rasulullah is because he's a human. We're human. We can relate the fact that Musa has fears just like any other human being would have fears. Why do you think that's why his story is mentioned in the Quran. Allah is telling him, ya Musa anitil qaum of walimeen, Musa go back to Egypt, qoma firaun. And just because if Musa did not get the clear picture, qoma firaun, you have to go back to Fir'aun. And then Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says that what did Musa. He said, he says, ya Allah, they're gonna deny me. There's no way. And did you forget the fact that there was, you know, I have like a rap sheet there? You know, there's an offense that I committed and there's still. There's a warrant of arrest out there for me. You want me to go back there into the lion's den? So Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala knows where he's putting Musa. Musa also knows where he's going. And then he says, allah subhan is telling him, no, that's not an excuse. You have to go, you have to go. So then he says that, go, both of you go to Musa, go to Fir'aun and invite him to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. And what did Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala tell him? He says, tell them to send bani isai with you and so forth. And not only that, but Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is telling him, we are with you. Don't worry, we are with you. So sometimes you have to face your fears in order to overcome your fears. But you ask Allah for help. You make dua to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and you put trust in Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and Allah will have your back. This is something that we tonight, today we do not have. We do not have our trust in Allah. We do not actually feel that Allah has my back. Allah will take care of me. Allah will protect me. We look towards the makhluk. We look towards the Mahluk for that support. Whereas the source of that support comes from the Khalik and rabulameen. So, brothers and sisters, so the very first thing is we have to put our trust in Allah subhana wa ta'ala. Number two is we put our trust in Allah. We face our fears, make dua to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. Which is also the third thing, which is making dua to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. And we ask Allah for his support. And when Allah tells us to do something, then remember that Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala will also protect you. When Musa is being told by Allah, subhanahu wa ta'ala. Musa, you have to go. There's no way out. I'm not going to send. Okay, you want the support, you're looking for some aid, I'll send Haroun with you. But you have to go to Fir'aun. And that is why we find also in the Quran that you know, when someone is threatened, the first thing they will do is they will remind you of their favors. When someone psychologically they want to gain dominance over another person, they will remind them of the favors. I did so many favors for you because that shows that I have done things for you. You were in a weaker position. I was in a more powerful position. I. I did favors for you. Now you're trying to tell me this. Not only that, Fir'aun said the same thing to Musa also. He says, you're a kid, man. You're gonna come and tell me now what to do. You know how many times adults, they say that you are a kid, you're like my son's age. You can't tell me what to do. Okay? Even if they're wrong, likewise what happens is Fir'aun is saying you stayed here for so many years, you grew up here in our palace. And not only that, but when you try to gate dominant someone and you know their dirty little secret and you don't want to share it and you tell them, you know, I remember what you did. I know that day, that time you did something, you were with this person, that person. You want me to spill the beans? Fir'aun is just filled with sarcasm. Do you remember what you did when you did what you did? Like he's just throwing out all this sarcasm, trying to intimidate Musa. And any person at that time would probably lose their footing. But at that time, Musa remembers that this, he was sent by Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala with a mission and he stuck to his mission and Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala had the backing and the support of Musa. So this is why brothers and sisters, we, we are gonna go through different challenges in life. But number one is put your trust in Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. Number two is that face your fear and Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala will inshaallah have your back. And number three is always make dua to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. Never lose sight of Dua. Never underestimate the power of dua. Musa is about to be sent into the lion's den. He understands because he even said ya Allah. When I go my chest is tightened, I cannot speak. When I go I lose my words. He had a speech impediment as it is but now, but in many cases also when you feel there's a lot of anxiety when a person is filled with a lot of rage, a lot of times the words don't come out. A person is filled with rage, they want to spill out so many things but their tongues are not just giving out the words. He Musa is saying I cannot even speak. But even in that kind of situation, what did he do? He asked Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. So never ever lose sight of the power of Dua. You find, you find yourself in a difficult position. Ask Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala make dua to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. Plead to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala will be there to help us in all of our affairs. I ask Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala to give us to learn from these stories of the Quran. May Allah Subhana help us to apply these stories in the Quran of the Quran in our life. Allah Wahfa biladana wa asladana Washfi mardana wafim mubatalana minkulishar wakasuna bi janata walata Allah.
