Cassius Marsh
So long players were just getting taken advantage of. Like, you know, we didn't have. I didn't have no extra money. I didn't have, you know, I didn't have anything, bro. We were, we were literally living broke. Which is, which is fine, you know, builds character or whatever, but I think it's, it's a good thing and a bad thing for these young guys because, you know, money changes people.
Interviewer
So right there is a downside to making that much that young, I think too.
All right, guys, we are at cpt. Got Cassius here. He is one of the first, unfortunately, to be eliminated.
Cassius Marsh
Yeah, unfortunately, man. I won like four or five hands. Like it was looking good and then I lost on a bunch of good hands. So I felt like I played a good game.
Interviewer
But that's how it goes.
Cassius Marsh
Poker is poker.
Interviewer
You're better at Magic the Gathering.
Cassius Marsh
Much better. If this was a Magic the Gathering tournament, hands down, it wouldn't have been no effort.
Interviewer
What's the skill to luck ratio in Magic the Gathering compared to poker? Is it more skill based?
Cassius Marsh
It's definitely more skill based and like knowledge based for sure.
You definitely play the numbers, like you know how to now, you know, analyze the board and all that good stuff. But yeah, it's based on like how well you play your deck. And there's, there's some interactions. It's a super complicated the game. It's even hard to talk about it really.
Interviewer
Is it more complicated than Yu Gi oh?
Cassius Marsh
Way more. I mean, Yu Gi oh, like original Yu Gi oh probably the Yu Gi oh that you think about was way simpler. It's changed now. It's come become quite complex. But magic the gatherings, by far the most like complicated and interactive game, like trading card game. Damn.
Interviewer
Do you like the playing aspect of magic or the collecting or both? Like, how do you view it?
Cassius Marsh
I like both, man. I think ever since I became like a store owner, it kind of changed my perspective on, on, on collecting. I'm a little bit I'm just more knowledgeable now. So I collect a lot more of the, the high end stuff. Like the rarer things that don't typically depreciate, they always appreciate in value. So you know, I started off as a player, became like a hardcore collector and I'm still, I'd say I'm somewhere around both. I think the game is just the funnest part or the best part about it. So I'd say I'm more of a player than a collector.
Interviewer
But I definitely, Yeah, I got wrecked because I was collecting all the new and that stuff crashed. Right.
Cassius Marsh
With the, the magic stuff.
Interviewer
No, with basketball and football and stuff.
Cassius Marsh
You know, basketball, the sports market is definitely seeing a, a trend upwards. Fanatics is doing a great job of like bringing the, the players into it. Because I think that's a weird thing about the past is that like players had no idea that the trading card industry was even a thing and like how much money people are making, like the memorabilia side of things as well.
Interviewer
Yeah.
Cassius Marsh
So sports is definitely trending upwards and it's like football and basketball are like kind of like day trading. So when you get something now, like when you get a big hit now, like you get a big time quarterback or whatever, you want to get your value out of it pretty quickly, you know, because you're betting on players and football and basketball are so one injury.
Interviewer
And down 20% the next day.
Cassius Marsh
One injury, one like mess up off the field. You know what I mean? You kind of. These guys have to keep like perfect like they have to stay perfect to like maximize the value. So you really, it's really a gamble. Baseball is more of a.
Interviewer
Sure.
Cassius Marsh
I say baseball is like blue chip stocks.
Interviewer
It's more like set.
Cassius Marsh
Yeah. Because like their prospects, like their number one, like their top 15, top 30 prospects typically don't miss. Bro. They typically don't miss. They end up being good players. They get a lot of time and then like Shohei Ohtani, like nobody saw him coming. But if you were collecting baseball at the time, like and you got a bunch of Shohei Ohtani cards, like you're chilling. You're. Yeah, you're, you're, you're doing very well.
Interviewer
How much are those right now? Like a rookie PSA10 Ohtani Depends like.
Cassius Marsh
What, you know, how rare it is. Like you know what, what it's out of. But like you know, six figures and I'm sure there's seven figure Otani cards out there for sure. Yeah. And yeah, baseball, baseball is definitely like if you had to rank the value wise, I would go baseball, football, basketball.
Interviewer
Wow. As an NBA fan, that's. Yeah, I, I put a lot of money in those.
Cassius Marsh
Basketball though. Well, I don't know though, because basketball's got like Jordan Cards are crazy, Kobe cards are crazy.
Interviewer
That's where I messed up. I went too modern. I was in the hype. Like I was buying Zion John those.
Cassius Marsh
Because look, you see, you know, you know Zion's doing, doing things and Jaws doing things.
Interviewer
If I were to redo it, I would have got like Kobe, got Tim Duncan, whatever.
Cassius Marsh
Like Tim Duncan. Yeah. Like guys that are just like, you know, they're not gonna, you know. But yeah, the basketball, basketball is interesting. Like I said, it's like day stock. So like, you know, whoever the, the best. Like Cooper flags coming out.
Interviewer
Yeah.
Cassius Marsh
If you get a big Cooper flag hit coming up here in the next like year or so, I would, I would, I would, I would flip it. I would like wait for him to have like a big, his first big like rookie game.

It's sleek, portable and honestly I don't.
Sponsor/Ad Voice
Go anywhere without it.
Cassius Marsh
And then I put that thing on the market, get my money out of it and smart, you know.
Interviewer
Yeah, you got to be more calculated these days with it 100.
Cassius Marsh
It's like, it's like, it's like the stock market, bro.
Interviewer
Yeah.
Cassius Marsh
You know, like if you just put your money into something, you don't pay attention to it and you don't see like the shelf life and all that type of stuff, like you'll lose money.
Interviewer
What's the biggest come up you've had on, on a single card?
Cassius Marsh
That is a very good question actually.
Interviewer
Was it a magic card, do you think, or was it sports?
Cassius Marsh
That's a good question.
Interviewer
You don't even know.
Cassius Marsh
That's a good question. I, you know, I, I'm like buying and flipping so constantly now that I don't, I don't really. I mean what I will say is I bought a full playset. A playset is like in magic is, is four of a single car. So I bought a full playset of what's called Dual Lands, probably like my second year in the league. And I bought them for like really, really cheap. I think I bought them for 7 or 8k which is, you know, were they ungraded? Ungraded? Just like playable cards and like now a full playset of like Dual Lands is probably like 30, 30k. Holy 40k. Yeah, something like that.
Interviewer
8 to 10x.
Cassius Marsh
Yeah, but that was like a one time thing and, and Magic, Magic, you can make money on the, the reserve list stuff.
Interviewer
Reserve list?
Cassius Marsh
Yeah, every, every, every trading card has its different like they're all different markets. Pokemon is its own different market. Like modern Pokemon right now is crazy. You know, there's this Team Rocket set coming out. You know, distributors buy it for like 9, 85 90, 95 bucks. And they're going to turn around and sell it for like 400.
Interviewer
Holy crap. So they make 4x?
Cassius Marsh
Yeah. On, on, on, on Pokemon is just insanity. Damn.
Interviewer
Can you even, as a store owner, can you even get access to that stuff?
Cassius Marsh
Yeah, I mean, I've got to get good allocation because, you know, I've spent a lot of money with these distributors and stuff like that and I got in just in time.
Interviewer
Nice. So that's a good business model for you.
Cassius Marsh
You know, it's. It's been great, bro. I'm blessed, man, to turn a, to turn a hobby into a business and like something that I really love and I'm passionate about. Like, I've been grateful to made money playing the sport. I love football. And then, you know, got to make money playing trading cards, messing around with different cars. So I've been lucky, man.
Interviewer
It's like you're still a child. There's still all the things you like growing up.
Cassius Marsh
Yeah, yeah, for sure. I get to like, I, you know, wake up, work out, you know. We gotta go hoop.
Interviewer
Yeah, we gotta play, bro.
Cassius Marsh
We gotta go.
Interviewer
Are you in town tomorrow? Are dipping tonight?
Cassius Marsh
I'm dipping, bro. I just, I've been on, I've been on the road a lot.
Interviewer
Yeah, you were in Miami.
Cassius Marsh
Yeah, so I'm like, you know, I want to go home. It's Mother's day on Sunday as well too. Get up out of here. Go make mom some Alaskan Kring king crab legs.
Interviewer
You know, H Mart just opened up here. Have you been to H Mart?
Cassius Marsh
Swear they got an H Mart in Vegas now. Oh, Hmart's my favorite, bro. But it's in downtown, so it's hard.
Interviewer
Oh, but dude, they got a king crab sale right now, so.22 a pound. I bought like £8.
Cassius Marsh
They make the best snacks. Their fruit's always so good.
Interviewer
I love H Mart's.
Cassius Marsh
The shout outs.
Interviewer
Shout out to H1.
Cassius Marsh
Shout outs to moms too. Happy Mother's Day, mom. I love you.
Interviewer
Yeah, send my mom some flowers. And getting that text from her made my whole month, you know what I mean? Like they came in today and. Yeah, it's funny how the simple things like that can just.
Cassius Marsh
That's all my mom wants is some flowers, spend time with her son. Yeah, I mean, that's. She's. Yeah, moms are the best, bro.
Interviewer
Yeah, my mom, man, single. I'm a single child. So I tore up the house, you know, I threw parties and.
Cassius Marsh
Oh, bro, I wouldn't dare. My mom's my Mom's scared, bro. She scared me for the longest, bro. I would have never thought. Yeah, she was strict, but, like, I was grateful to have, like, some buddies who had, like. I went to a private school. I went to Oaks Christian, so, you know, we had buddies that parents would just let you throw crazy parties at their big old, like, mansions in Westlake Village and stuff. So I was fortunate. I never had to resort to throwing parties at my mom's house. You can't hide anything in Holly Ann's house. One little. One little dirty floor here or just one thing misplaced. She sees it all.
Interviewer
Damn, she's sharp. She's still in the same house?
Cassius Marsh
Yeah, yeah, same house I grew up in. She's still there.
Interviewer
Let's go. That's cool, man. What did. What did she do? What was her job?
Cassius Marsh
Oh, she's an escrow officer.
Interviewer
Escrow officer?
Cassius Marsh
Yeah. Yeah, yeah. She's been doing that for at least 20 years. Maybe 25 years.
Interviewer
Nice.
Cassius Marsh
Yeah, before that she was a. A school teacher and. But I got kicked out of the school that she was teaching.
Interviewer
I gotta hear that story.
Cassius Marsh
I mean, you know, I just, like.
Honestly, to make a short. Long story short, a kid took my toy and threw it over a fence and I just. I just. I just whooped it his ass, you know? Damn. It probably wasn't terrible, but, like, you.
Interviewer
Know, what was a toy or like, actually, I don't.
Cassius Marsh
I couldn't even tell you exactly what the toy was. I just knew, like, it was mine. He threw it over the fence and I was hot and I just roughed him up and that was kind of last straw type of thing for sure.
Interviewer
Yeah. I was attached to my. My biggest L. One of my biggest L's in life is giving away my Pokemon and Yugamon Yu Gi. Oh. Collection. Oh, my God.
Cassius Marsh
Do you know how many people, like, have. Have experienced that? Whether they gave it away or their parents gave it away or sold it? Garage sale crazy, bro.
Interviewer
Dude, that's probably worth six figures right now.
Cassius Marsh
Oh, I mean, I'm sure if you had.
Interviewer
I had charizards, I had blast toys, all the Yu Gi. Oh.
Cassius Marsh
If you were a real collector and you had multiples of like the start and stuff. Yeah, yeah, you definitely. You know, and the thing with Pokemon was is nobody really played with the cards. It was just like, collect.
Interviewer
Yeah, I had it in binders.
Cassius Marsh
Yeah. Put it in binders.
Interviewer
Yeah. Because if you played with it, they weren't PSAs.
Cassius Marsh
You know who else had that similar experience? Bradley Martin.
Interviewer
Really?
Cassius Marsh
So Bradley, a couple Years back, told me about. He had a bunch of Pokemon cards growing up. And he went to college and he was, you know, you go to college, you move from dorm. Dorm and apartment. Apartment. And he said he was walking through campus and just dumped his whole binder in like some random trash can.
Interviewer
Damn. Rip, bro.
Cassius Marsh
Rip for sure. Just throwing away like a.
Interviewer
Did you keep all your old stuff?
Cassius Marsh
I didn't, you know, I didn't grow up with a ton of money, me. And, you know, my mom definitely took care of me and was. She did the most that she could, but I didn't, I didn't. I didn't have too much to give away. Honestly. I feel that.
Interviewer
Yeah, they were kind of expensive. Honestly.
Cassius Marsh
I mean, any, any extra expense when you're just trying to make it month to month is. Is something.
Interviewer
Yeah.
Cassius Marsh
Even if it's a hundred bucks on a booster box, like a hundred bucks is 100, but 100 bucks is two pairs of shoes. You know, I only got three pairs of shoes for every school year.
Interviewer
Damn.
Cassius Marsh
Yeah. Three pairs of Vans. I go to OG black and whites, the reds and the blues.
Interviewer
Wow. And the football cleats, too.
Cassius Marsh
Yeah, cleats were a part of it too. Cleats were a part of it too.
Yeah.
Interviewer
Man, times have changed now. They got the nil money now. You could have been making six figures.
Cassius Marsh
Oh, the nil stuff is crazy.
Interviewer
Yeah, it's cr.
Cassius Marsh
I mean, I was a top. I think I was like rivals, like number 33 player in the nation or something like that.
Interviewer
You had been making.
Cassius Marsh
I would have got familiar absolutely easily.
Interviewer
Damn.
Cassius Marsh
And then I was a four year starter as well at ucla, bro. So I definitely would have been getting a check. But I'm so glad that it's changed now, you know, because for so long players were just getting taken advantage of. Like, you know, we didn't have. I didn't have no extra money. I didn't have, you know, I didn't have anything, bro. We were. We were literally living broke. Which is, which is fine, you know, Bill's character or whatever. But I think it's, it's a good thing and a bad thing for these young guys because, you know, money changes people. So.
Interviewer
Right. There is a downside to making that much that young, I think too.
Cassius Marsh
Absolutely. Mentally, it can, it can, it can get in the way. It can get in the way if you don't have the proper guidance.
Interviewer
Yeah. I think it can ruin some potential because you start making a million a year at 18, you're not trying as hard sometimes.
Cassius Marsh
You get. I mean, it's just like, it's like when, like big time players get these, these massive contracts, you know, and sometimes, not all the time, but like, sometimes they just get comfortable, you know, they don't play as hard, they don't work as hard, you know.
Sponsor/Ad Voice
I hope you guys are enjoying the show. Please don't forget to like and subscribe. It helps the show a lot with the algorithm.
Interviewer
Thank you.
Cassius Marsh
It's scary paying paying guys a lot of money, especially with college. Like, you know, I had, I can think of a lot of like big time recruits that never panned out, you know, never even became starters. Injuries, injuries, behavioral issues, just like, you know, football, anything. You know how sports is, bro. Just all the little things they add up, dude.
Interviewer
Average NFL career, two years now. Is it really 2.5? Yeah, 2.2.4.
Cassius Marsh
I think it was 3.3 when I left.
Interviewer
Yeah, it's only getting worse because they're just cycling running backs and.
Cassius Marsh
Yeah, yeah, it's.
Interviewer
I mean, they'd rather pay less than just have a younger guy.
Cassius Marsh
It's. Yeah, I mean, I think that's really where the league is going in general is like, if you're not like a high level starter, you know, they just go younger.
Interviewer
Yeah. You know, because you get injured now, they'll just pick someone up, they'll drop you.
Cassius Marsh
It just depends on who you are, man. It depends on how, how, how special you are as a player, you know, and everything is about right system, right time, right place, especially defensively. I mean, football's a, It's a trip, bro. Sports in general, man, there's so much more involved in it than I think a lot of people, like the average person thinks, you know, a lot of politics. A lot of politics.
Interviewer
I mean, you learn that.
Cassius Marsh
I definitely learned that, bro. Like some of the best camps I ever had, like, I probably had my best camp ever with. I think it was back to back years. I had my best camp with, with Jacksonville Jaguars. And the next year I had an amazing camp with the Steelers and I ended up getting released from both those teams at one point.
Interviewer
Damn.
Cassius Marsh
Obviously I finished out the season with other teams, but, you know, it's. It's not always about who the best player is, which is crazy.
Interviewer
I wonder what they're. Did they tell you why they released you or.
Cassius Marsh
No, it was. They never tell you. They never give you the real like, crazy. Actually, the timing was crazy. In Jacksonville. I.
I was having like a crazy camp. I had a really good practice and one of the writers came out and said, like, oh, Cassius Marsh is, like, prime to have a Pro bowl type season. And that next week they switched my position and, like, stop giving me reps. No way.
Interviewer
Yeah, bro. Is that because when you make the Pro bowl, they got to pay you more? Is it similar to the NBA with.
Cassius Marsh
A. I think it's just like. Well, they drafted a first round defensive end in my position, and I was outplaying their current guy who was also, like a Pro bowl level type player.
Interviewer
Yeah.
Cassius Marsh
And, you know, it's just like, all about, like, you know, the way the GM looks and all that good stuff.
Interviewer
And, like, I didn't even think about that.
Cassius Marsh
Coaches have their guys. GMs have their guys. Yeah.
Interviewer
Because they'll get fired if they make bad picks. So they want to. Yeah.
Cassius Marsh
Like, if your first round pick's not panning out, you know, then it looks bad on you.
Interviewer
Right. Damn. I wonder if there's a fix to that salute, because that doesn't sound optimal for the team.
Cassius Marsh
But it's a Jacksonville Jaguars, so it's like, It's. It's like, listen, I got a lot. I got love for Duvall. My dad played for the Jaguars on their first team ever, so it's all love. But, like, organizationally, they're. They're one of the worst, for sure.
Interviewer
Yeah.
Cassius Marsh
Yeah.
Interviewer
Yeah. Makes you wonder if the top teams have just more accountability. Right. Well, they just.
Cassius Marsh
They just, like San Francisco. They do things right. They take good care of players. You know, they. They bring in good coaches. They do. They do everything the right way. Seahawks are similar. Patriots have their own recipe as well.
Interviewer
It worked for a while, but now it's.
Cassius Marsh
Yeah, but like, organizationally, though, like, they do the right stuff, like, in the building. They take really good player, good care of the players as far as, like, treatment, food, like, you know, giving you access to the things that you need. The Steelers were pretty good as well, but, like, the teams that consistently win, you know, like, the. Like the organizations that you look at as, like, a top organization, there's a reason for it.
Interviewer
They take more care of everyone.
Cassius Marsh
They just do everything better, top to bottom.
Interviewer
Yeah. Do you think that partially is a money thing? Like, they have more money?
Cassius Marsh
I mean, forgive me if I'm wrong, but Jacksonville's owner is, like, very, very well.
Interviewer
Oh, yeah.
Cassius Marsh
I don't think that he's short on funds by any means, but, like, you know, I could be wrong, but, I mean, money's always a factor in everything. Yeah. You know, who knows?
Interviewer
Because you look at these big, like, NBA teams and it's always like the same big market teams making the finals.
Cassius Marsh
How crazy it is. Is it that. Have you heard the whole conspiracy theory behind Luca?
Interviewer
No, which one?
Cassius Marsh
So there's a conspiracy theory behind Luka. The reason why they got rid of Luka is because the Dallas Mavericks new owners have been trying to move the team to Vegas. But because Dallas already has like a very strong fan base and like, you know, Dallas is a good market, they. They don't want to do it. So the theory is that the owners traded Luka to tank the team and try and basically get the team to move to Vegas.
Interviewer
No way.
Cassius Marsh
Because the cuz they want to have a cons. They want to build a casino there. The. The people who own the team are like, they own a bunch of casinos and they want to do a casino in Dallas and the city want to prove it. Yeah.
Interviewer
Holy crap.
Cassius Marsh
Yeah. That's a theory though. That's a theory. I'm not sure.
Interviewer
I mean, I could. I could see it, but they still got. Who'd they get for Luca? They got A.D. so I feel like next season they'll. They won't be that bad.
Cassius Marsh
Well, they're not going to be terrible, but like, you trade Luca, who's a generational type of player. Yeah, he could, you know, if he loses some weight.
Interviewer
I could see that. And they pushed Cuban out. He's gone, right?
Cassius Marsh
Yeah, yeah. And they pissed off like Dirk Nowitzki. It doesn't really mess with the organization right now. And I mean, I think. I think Cuban's still involved in some capacity minor though.
Interviewer
But he said on. On camera that he would never trade Luca. Yeah.
Cassius Marsh
It was up to him.
Interviewer
Yeah, yeah.
Cassius Marsh
Everybody was pissed about it. So like, I feel. It makes me feel like there's something there.
Interviewer
Damn, that's wild. Well, the Lakers had a rough playoff. Are you a Lakers fan?
Cassius Marsh
I am a Lakers fan, man. I put on for any team that's. That's la.
Interviewer
Yeah. So at least you got the MLB last year, right?
Cassius Marsh
Yeah. Dodgers. Dodgers are crushed.
Sponsor/Ad Voice
It.
Cassius Marsh
Dodgers might win for the next three or four. Man, they're ridiculous.
Interviewer
Dude, if these guys healthy, I mean.
Cassius Marsh
The way that they do the contracts where they defer.
Interviewer
Brilliant. So smart.
Cassius Marsh
So smart.
Interviewer
Don't you wish you did that?
Cassius Marsh
I wish, I wish. I mean, like. But you know, the way baseball players get paid, though, is so much different. Different, bro. It's all fully guaranteed and like.
Interviewer
Yeah. Oh, it's all guaranteed.
Cassius Marsh
Oh, yeah.
Interviewer
Damn. Even if they get injured.
Cassius Marsh
Even if they get injured. Yeah. Yeah.
Interviewer
Wow. Do you think more sports should do that?
Cassius Marsh
I mean, I think with football it's tough because the injury rate is so high. But I, I mean, as much damage as we inflict onto our bodies, particularly, I think that the one thing that the NFL should do is, Is the lifetime insurance thing. I think, you know, the. Obviously, you know, guys deserve more money and everything like that, but I think, you know, the lifetime insurance is. Is more of a thing because if you think about it like, say you're 6, 6, 3, 20. Well, after your insurance goes out and you're. And you show up, you try and get insurance with somebody, you're 6, 6, 3, 20. You're obese. Yeah, in their eyes.
Interviewer
On paper.
Cassius Marsh
On paper, you're obese. And so, like, trying to get insurance just becomes crazy expensive. And then, like, you know, say you have a bunch of injuries, you got a torn acl, you got a. A messed up shoulder. You know, you got like, you know, brain stuff, like all the seats, all the chances of cte, everything like that, you just become, you know, kind of impossible to insure. So.
Interviewer
Wow.
Cassius Marsh
I think if anything, you know, the NFL could definitely do more there.
Interviewer
I wonder what the UFC does for the. They must have.
Cassius Marsh
I don't. I don't think the UFC is doing. They're not doing that too much insurance wise, but I don't know. I don't know. I mean, you know, we'll have to ask Colby Covington. Yeah, we'll have to ask him and see what it's looking like.
Interviewer
I know they go to the hospital right after their fights.
Cassius Marsh
He was right. I think he was at my. I think. No, Kobe Covington wasn't my table MMA guy at my table. He's a fighter. He had the cauliflower ears.
Interviewer
Oh, God.
Cassius Marsh
I didn't introduce myself.
Interviewer
Oh, is it Henry Cejuda?
Cassius Marsh
I think.
Interviewer
Yeah, it was Henry.
Cassius Marsh
He was wild, bro.
Interviewer
No, he was bluffing. I saw his hands. He was.
Cassius Marsh
He was. It's all good and fun, bro. Like, I love the fighters, man. They're just always down for. To get rowdy.
Interviewer
I love their mindset. Yeah, society needs more of that these days.
Cassius Marsh
Yeah, for sure.
Interviewer
