By actually several groups. But one, the director was actually a high school friend of mine. So he knows my childhood very authentically. Like he lived it. Very, very dope that that story is going to get told from me being a kid, a brown kid who didn't have a lot, you know, getting harassed for being brown. And now how does that prepare me to be Ronnie 2K, the face of a. Wow. The most popular video game franchise in the world. I think people are really going to be surprised by that and I think it's a lot of people are always surprised that like I'm very forthcoming with the fans and I'm very normal. I think a lot of it's because I just remember where I came from.
Interviewer
That's. That's respect. Okay guys, complex con day two here with Ronnie 2K. How's it been going, man?
Ronnie 2K
It's been great. Always such a pleasure to see these emerging fashion brands. Obviously a great chance to see a lot of friends too. Nice.
Interviewer
I saw you just announced your new company levels as well a few months ago, right?
Ronnie 2K
Yeah, yeah. So we have, we have an experiential three level space a block from the Chase center where the warriors play. It's been dope. Like every celebrity that means anything in the fashion world has stopped by there. Much love, much respect. And we just. What's cool about it is, you know, we get the best brands in there and they always send us our best stuff. People that don't even show up anywhere but online. It's cool that you know, we get a physical space so that they could storytelling, you know, if they're a word out there. Nice.
Interviewer
You basically help fashion brands with their marketing.
Ronnie 2K
Yeah, I mean I think it started with 2k. Right. Like we have the city and a lot of these brands are trying to get on our radar to have their digital avatar wear it. So it made sense to kind of do the physical version of that. Like I give fashion brands an emerging place to like go storytelling. Let's go.
Interviewer
Also got a documentary coming out. It might be out by the time this releases. Could you talk to us about.
Ronnie 2K
I don't think it'll be. I don't think it'll be out by the time this releases because we just announced that it's in production. It's amazing. I was reached out to by actually several groups. But one, the director was actually a high school friend of mine. So he knows my childhood very authentically. Like he lived it very, very dope that that story is going to get told from me being a kid. A Brown kid who didn't have a lot, you know, getting grasped for being Brown. And now how does that prepare me to be ronnie2k as the fans of a. Wow. The most popular video game franchise in the world. Humble beginnings, huh? Yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, I think people are really going to be surprised by that. And I think it's. A lot of people are always surprised that, like, I'm very forthcoming with the fans and I, like, just. I'm very normal. I think a lot of it's because I just remember where I came from.
Interviewer
That's respect. How do you keep 2k? So what's the word I'm looking for? It's always in the conversation. Like, it's always relevant.
Ronnie 2K
Yeah. I think the NBA gives us a real good lens to be able to talk about relevant things always, you know, like, be in that culture. Fashion, music, all of the elements that are beyond basketball. Allow us to be 365, and we just want to be on top of minds of our players and try to give them everything that we can. Nice.
Interviewer
I know when you played 2k actively, you used to be top 10. Where would you rank yourself these days?
Ronnie 2K
Definitely not the top 10 anymore. I wish I. I wish I. I mean, some of these guys, they don't touch grass for, like, weeks now. It's insane. So I. Obviously, I'm on the road, I'm trying to promo the game. I. I think I'd still be 98th, 99th percentile, but definitely not. Definitely not top 10 anymore.
Interviewer
Have the mechanics gotten a lot harder since you played?
Ronnie 2K
You know, a little bit? I don't think so. Like, it doesn't dramatically change because ultimately we want you to use the stick and learn how to dribble and learn how to master. And there's variations in years, but for the most part, like, I don't think it's dramatically harder, but.

The good ones are just like. These kids are just. Yeah.
Interviewer
Mental. And now they're screaming on Twitch and thousands of views.
Ronnie 2K
They're making it their whole business. You know, it's amazing. It's impressive. Our empire, you know, when I was top 10 in leaderboards, we didn't. We didn't even have a million people playing our game. Now there's millions and millions of people playing our game.
Interviewer
Opening season of the NBA. Any big surprises? Any star players that surprised you so far?
Ronnie 2K
I'll tell you what I'm not surprised about. Wemby coming out of the gate, like just a man on a mission, honestly, getting to have that diagnosis. And then he's. He doesn't have a turnover yet, and he's put up 92 points or whatever it is. You knew Luca was going to be really good, especially with LeBron out. He gets a lot of volume. Yeah, I think it's. I mean, I think ultimately the Thunder are going to be there at the end, but there are some really good stories, and we'll just have to see how it plays out. I mean, can the warriors stay healthy and maybe can Steph get a fifth? It's possible, yeah. Wow.
Interviewer
Early prediction with the Thunder.
Ronnie 2K
Yeah. Yeah. I think three already said they're just so. No, I mean, the 2K sim had them winning, and I just. How. Who's going to knock them off at 7? It's gonna be tough.
Interviewer
How accurate are those 2K simulations?
Ronnie 2K
For the most part, we. We usually nail the stuff. They're much more accurate than, like, even, you know, the pundits, which, you know, have their records and stuff. It's. We're trying to be as authentic simulation as possible. I think we've got a. The winner the last four out of the five years. Wow. Yeah.
Interviewer
So you pretty.
Ronnie 2K
We had OKC last year. Yeah.
Interviewer
Holy crap. And is that made before the regular season started?
Ronnie 2K
Yep. The regular season. We had okc. It shouldn't be a massive surprise. Like, they were coming. Like, they had massive talent infusions, and you just needed those guys to, like, gel together, get some experience. Like, it's obviously Shai is tremendous, but they Got a bunch of guys who could really, really play. Yes. I mean, that team's a playoff team with or without Shai. So with Shai, they're, you know, one of a great all time team. Conversations like they could get there.
Interviewer
Absolutely. What do you think of MJ returning to the sport?
Ronnie 2K
It's so exciting. I mean, getting his perspective as the go. I want to hear what he thinks about the dynamics of how the game has changed because obviously it has evolved. Yeah. How many points do you think he'd score in this year? In this, in this NBA?
Interviewer
Did he have a border in his arsenal?
Ronnie 2K
Not really, but I'm sure he could probably develop it. Yeah, it's kind of like, you know, would Larry Bird have just put the three point record away if three pointers were. I accepted that.
Interviewer
You know, I, I never saw him play. I've only seen highlights. I'm 28, but I think he would average more. Yeah, I think it's in the scores. Error now, right?
Ronnie 2K
Yeah.
Interviewer
If you can shoot.
Ronnie 2K
Yeah. I mean you, you used to be able to hand check and you know, get away with stuff defensively. Yeah, I think it's. I think he'd average at least 30.
Interviewer
But maybe more if Braun or Curry could get one or two more. Do you, sir, do you surpass MJ? If they could pull that off?
Ronnie 2K
No. No.
Interviewer
Even if they get two more?
Ronnie 2K
No. No, no, no.
Interviewer
Really?
Ronnie 2K
Nope. I mean, Steph is a whole other thing. Like he's just changed the game. I don't, I don't think he. I don't think he's in the conversation for the greatest because he was on, I don't know, like the all around game. But obviously his impact on the NBA is probably second of mj. Literally, he's probably the second most important player in NBA history. Yeah.
Interviewer
I grew up playing center and now every center could shoot a three.
Ronnie 2K
Yeah, exactly.
Interviewer
Like in my men's league a lifetime.
Ronnie 2K
If.
Interviewer
If I can't shoot, I'm a liability.
Ronnie 2K
It's all about the shooting percentage. It's crazy. Yeah, it's totally changed. Nuts, man. Yeah.
Interviewer
Well, what do you got next? What events you go to? Where can people find you and all that?
Ronnie 2K
Yeah, obviously my social 2k is in season 2, so it's still early. And now with the NBA season starting, where we got a bunch of fun events going on to celebrate the start of the season in season tournament. We'll be back here in Vegas in a couple months, so it'll be good to see everybody again. Yeah, I'm, I'm actually looking forward to a couple weeks at Hull. That's a. That's my dream right now. I mean, I've been. I've gone to Singapore twice this year. I've gone to Australia. I've gone to Paris for the Paris game. These are long flights, so a little time to, like, be at the office and, like, really start ruminating about what 27 is, is exciting to me.
Podcast Host
Awesome. We'll stay to you guys.
Interviewer
