In this episode, I talk with Rebecca Hoyt about her work at Disability Rights California (DRC). She shares about her experience with dyslexia and how that has evolved throughout her life. Rebecca even lets us in on her self care secret: the self care chair! Since the recording of the episode, Rebecca has moved on from DRC and taken a new role as the Disability Rights and Services Specialist for the City of Madison. Trigger Warnings: ableism This podcast would not be possible without the support of CFILC and the YO! Disabled and Proud Program. A special thanks to Zofia Trexler for their help with the transcription! In Episode 2 of the Disability Belongs Podcast, I get to talk with Evan Milburn about his life as a Disability advocate. He shares how he came to work with YO! Disabled and Proud and what the program has taught him. We also talk about self-care as Disabled people, and I go on a brief soapbox about how the concept of making your bed is ableist. Since the recording of this episode, Evan and I finally got to meet in person! I can attest that he is just as great as he sounds in the podcast! We'll have to have him join us again so we can share the story of our meeting in sunny San Diego. In the first-ever episode of the Disability Belongs Podcast, I talk with the wonderful Tatum! Tatum has a bachelor's degree in Christian Studies and Philosophy and is currently in a master's of divinity program. In today's episode, she talks about her experience growing up as a Disabled person in the education system. We talked about what it means to live fully into your Disabled identity, told stories of accommodations in high school, and even talked about the time we both dyed our hair blue.
