Welcome to the Disgraceland bonus episode. A little thing we like to call the After Party. This is the show after the show, the party after the party. The bridge to get you from one full episode of Disgraceland to the other, the backyard. To dig into the dirt on this episode, we are talking about, among other things, the rza, Raekwon, Method Man, Ghostface Killa, and the ongoing saga of Wu Tang Clan. And of course, your voicemails, texts, DMs, and more. And as always, a whole lot of Rosie. All right, discos, let's get into it. So we are just about halfway through our serialized season on Wu Tang Clan, our first ever serialized season of Disgraceland, and I'm dying to know what you guys think of this. Are you into it? Are you into the serialized storytelling? Do you like having an episode on each member? Are you pumped? Are you dying for the next one? Speaking of the next one, before we get into that, let's recap where we've been with the series so far. Okay, real quick here. In just the last two weeks, we've dropped episodes on the rza, Raekwon Method man and Ghostface Killa. And there's a lot going on in these episodes. Shootouts, dice games, drug busts, voodoo rituals, and of course, great music. Not just Wu Tang's music, but the music that inspired Wu Tang Clan, The Delphonics, the Temptations, Big Daddy Kane, Run dmc, Heavy D, Stax Records, Kung Fu soundtracks. The list goes on and on. But at the heart of the narrative of this Wu Tang Clan story, there is this ongoing investigation into Wu as a front for gun running and crime. A totally Bonkers investigation started by cops in New York and in Ohio. Actually, that eventually bubbled up to the ATF and then all the way to the FBI. The FBI, who for years labeled Wu Tang Clan internally with the code 281F, which is Bureau speak for major criminal organization as in the Gambino crime family. This is insane. So in the coming weeks, we've got even more crazy, whacked out stories from Shaolin. Next week, we're dropping an episode on Inspect the Deck and how his time behind bars as a kid helped him develop his hip hop Persona. Also, we got an episode on Capodonna, the honorary 10th member of the group who unknowingly introduced a federal informant into the clan's inner circle at the time that they were being investigated. So there's that. And yes, ODB is coming, so be patient. We're going to get there soon enough. As you've probably noticed, we're pausing this week, however, to give you a breather and let you catch up with this series. To tide you over, we're releasing the previously exclusive episode on Ringo Starr. Why Ringo, you ask? How does Ringo connect with Wu Tang Clan? Well, check out the episode to find out. It might not be what you think. Definitely not as easy a connection as Wu Tang to Bruce Lee, the legendary martial arts artist and movie star, one of the many inspirations from the world of kung fu onto Wu. To celebrate that connection, tomorrow in your Disgraceland feed, you've got an archive episode all about Bruce Lee from Badlands. That's the other show that I host, if you don't know about that, so look out for that one. All right, I want to circle back to my question here at the top of the show. What are you guys thinking about the serialized season? Should we do more of these? And if so, what band or artist would be perfect for this long form storytelling? Are there other groups out there with multiple members that could warrant their own episodes? Who do you have? Grateful Dead? That's what I'm thinking, right? Do we do a whole season on the Dead? Don't say the Stones, don't say the Beatles. Because we've exhausted that subject matter almost completely to this point. We've done a ton of episodes on those guys. What other group could we do over an entire 10 episode series? I think there's some artists, single artists like Rick James. Enough crime in his background, we could get 10 episodes of that. Johnny Cash we could probably get 10 episodes on. But I want to keep it group focused if we can, and I want to do these pretty infrequently. Maybe one a year. I obviously am not going to mess too much with the format, if at all with Disgraceland. I like the anthology series we got going on, but this Wu Tang thing may end up being a one time event. I don't know, we may do more. I'm trying to get some feedback here. So far the response has been positive, but hearing about it mostly on social media and to be honest with you guys, I feel like we have more of a direct connection here in the podcast over the phone line 617-906-6638 so let me know what you're thinking on this series. Do you want more serialized seasons of Disgrace Land? Leave me a voicemail just like this one from the 317 hey, it's Ryan

Hey, it's from 317 and my name's Eyvette, I wanted to call about your Bon Jovi episode where you were talking about, you know, not really digging it when you were, you know, at that age and everything. And I just thought it was great because I have a funny little story about Bon Jovi, so I feel the same way as you. I was definitely more into a lot of the different stuff at that time, more of the punker type, punk scene, but kind of hated the whole hair band thing. And so now I am actually married to a musician and he is in a Bon Jovi tribute band. So it's rather funny that it circled back around. He is not the Bon. Jon Bon Jovi person. He's the actual keyboard player, David Bryan. So it's pretty funny. And we actually, it's like a little inside joke. We have have that, you know, I have to go listen to Bon Jovi now all the time. But I do have a respect for it now that I'm older. Just kind of like what you said too, that it's just a little more different now. I have a different respect for it. You know, they were doing their thing, they were having a good time, nothing wrong with that. And, you know, I'm 53 now, so I kind of look at it a lot differently. So I just thought it was interesting and wanted to share that. So. And I enjoy your podcast so much. I listen to it all the time when I'm driving and I did just discover Badlands recently. So I've been getting into that and just really enjoy it. I love all the work you put into it and the spin that you put on everything. So really enjoy it. Keep doing what you're doing.
Jake Brennan
All right. Thanks for the voicemail, Yvette. I feel like we've stumbled upon a theme here amongst the Disgraceland listeners, and that is this sort of later in life open mindedness toward music we hated as kids. I get it, Yvette. Being married to a musician in a Bon Jovi tribute band as a former punk kid is definitely an interesting turn of events. But yeah, I can't. I can't say I would react any differently than you do. Than you are, I should say. All right, let's check out this voicemail from the 803.
Listener Voicemail
Hey, Jake, it's Jamie from the 803 down here in South Carolina. First of all, love your podcast. Absolutely love them. I have a very boring job and you make it much more interesting. So thank you for that one comment I wanted to make on the actors playing people, Bohemian Rhapsody. My oldest son was absolutely Addicted to the Queen live performance at Live Aid when he was younger, like literally three, four years old, that's what he wanted to watch. He's now 17 and is a musician. But we watched that so many times and it's absolutely astounding how shot by shot, they recreated that. Raymond Malik, first of all, is insanely good. I'm a Freddie Mercury junkie and just insanely good. But just shot for shot, that live a thing is outrageous. It's amazing. Thanks for what you do, man. Keep it up, Rocka Rolla.
Jake Brennan
Thanks, Jamie. You're welcome. This is a wrap party question here, but it's about music, so that's why we're gonna. We're gonna fuck with it here in this after party bonus episode. I agree. I agree with you. For a movie. I didn't love Bohemian Rhapsody. I thought the Live Aid scene though, and Rami Malek's performance were both great. So there's that. So I'm with you. Okay, let's check out this one from hollow in the 956.
Listener Voicemail
Yo, what's up, Jakey? It's hollow from the 956 responding to you saying that you want to know a little bit more about your business. So I did leave a message before asking about horror core reason being I'm a horrorcore artist from South Texas. Been doing it for 14 years. Of course, not as mainstream, but there's a lot of. A lot of that people have done in this scene that would definitely make a great episode. Not saying you got to focus on individuals, but as a whole, there's a lot of content there, brother. Yeah. So just leaving this message. Hopefully you get back and you have a good one. Rock and roll it.
Jake Brennan
Great to meet you, Hollow. Thanks for introducing yourself. I admit I know next to nothing about horrorcore, but I'm here, I'm here to learn more. My man. All right, so send me some links. I delved into some horror core in the Eminem episode, but, you know, I think it's. That was a while ago and it was in reference to music that was from even a further while back. So why don't you send me some links, let me know what you're talking about. All right, Hollow. Thanks for the call, everyone. Thanks for the voicemails, thanks for the text. You know how to reach me. 617906-6638. You want to leave me a voicemail on anything we're discussing here in Disgraceland? This week's question is, who would you want us to cover in another serialized season if we did this again. The Grateful De we talking about Traveling Wilburies? I don't know. It's not Traveling Wilburies. Who what's the serialized season we're gonna do? We're gonna talk about one artist over 10 episodes if we do this again. Who the who? Not the who. The Dead. I kind of already did the Stones and the Beatles. Like I mentioned, Seth wants to do New Edition, but I don't think that's gonna happen. 617-906-6638 all right, I'm gonna take a quick break. I'll be back after this with the answers to your text and your DMs.

All right, we are back. Let's dive into some text here. 760 writes in hey, how about an episode on Springa from SSD? And what went wrong with the boy? So I'm not exactly sure. I don't know much about sst. Being from Boston, that's a blind spot for me. I've met Springa once before. Seemed like a good guy. Did seem. Did seem, you know, eccentric. So I. I don't know. Maybe I'm into this. Maybe I'll try and do a little. Do a little research here. Okay, let's see. We got one here from the 718 says, hey, Jake, Sarah from the 71 3. But her number says 71 8. Maybe that's a typo. I have lots of answers to your questions, but I've never written it until now because it's that important. Take Chicago seriously. All caps. I love it. Thanks to my mama, I got my love of all music from her. You and I. Oh, she's talking about Chicago, the group. You and I are close in age and have similar feelings on most music. Just you just trust me on this. She says, I own an ice cream shop in Houston called Fat Cat Creamery. Please stop by if you're ever in town. Here's a pic of me and Glenn Danzig for good measure. And there's an awesome picture of Sarah here with Glenn. Glenn looks very happy to be in this photograph with Sarah. Says Sarah goes on to say, this is the early 90s. I think I was 14. I also met the dudes from Typo Negative that night. Also says, please don't do an episode on Rush. Don't make me sit through that. Love, Sarah. You got it, Sarah. No Rush episode. Okay, I understand fully. Great picture. You and Dan Zig. I appreciate it. And I will take Chicago. I'm assuming you're talking about Chicago, the. The band, not. Not the city. Because I do. I do take. I do definitely take the city seriously. All right, this One from the 614 was sent in a video. I can't exactly tell what the hell is going on here, but it says so 60s trippy. A go go. I'm on too hot for TV too, on Springer. If you dare to watch Haha. Stripper Wars. I was on what? Oh, dead. All right, not safe for work. Let's keep moving here. Okay, from the 908. Hey, Jake, just checking in from Low Cut Connie Chris from the 908 in New Jersey. All right, Chris, appreciate this man sends in a little photo here. Recent photo of Low Cut Connie live. Let's see. This after party is being recorded and it'll be out the day after I do my. My special guest set with loca Connie in New York at the Blue Note. So, yeah, I hope it went well. I'm sure it did. All right, you got any texts you want to send me? 617-906-6638 on anything Disgraceland related? You can also DM me DisgracelandPod. I got a lot of texts here. Gonna keep on rolling with these for a minute here. It says, most overplayed one and done lp, obviously, is Boston. Not for me, but it is what it is. I'm not sure where that answer comes from. Then another one here. Favorite disco song, Shakedown street by the Grateful Dead. I can get with that. I can get with that. Next one says, is Marshall Crenshaw, Buddy. These are all from the 31 7. I don't think Marshall Crenshaw is Buddy Holly. I think Buddy Holly is dead. And then it goes, but did Marshall Crenshaw play Buddy Holly in a movie? Hmm. I think he might have, actually. 317 goes on to say, a well, callous, fretting hand, middle finger can drive a woman. I don't know what this guy's talking about. 31 7. Check back in with me when you're. When you're off the meds. What else we got here from the 612 band? Big influence, verse, low notoriety, question mark. Television. Who's could do replacements. This is JC in the six five one, St. Paul, Minnesota. Going in deep with the Minnesota. Who's could do? Sorry, yeah, Minnesota, Minneapolis, and Replacements as well. Television being from New York, though, but also great and, yes, influential. I think this is in reference to the Velvet Underground episode that we did. Can't argue with any of these. And then it goes on to say, best song about an actor, Martin Scorsese by King Missile. I remember that tune now. I want to go hear it. The 440 writes in, Jake, this is Devin from the 440. Living in the 703. I saw Behemoth open up for Danzig this week and thought of Nergal's struggle with Poland over blasphemy charges. Might be an interesting story. I don't know what you're talking about, but that does sound interesting. There's a picture here. It says, here he is before he ripped up a Bible. Oh, come on, man. Spit blood into the crowd. Yeah, not my bag, baby. Not my bag. Let's move on. What else we got here?
Poshmark Male Voice
Here.
Jake Brennan
All right, one final text here from the 312. Writes in, hey, Jake. So I was wondering if you have heard anything about the Pussycat Dolls and their founder Robin Anton. Apparently Robin had been involved in some shady business deals with members along with personal credit card debt, which also happens to be the exact same amount she was suing the lead singer of the group for breach of contract for. I'm obsessed with all of your podcasts and would love to hear that story. Rocka Rola 312 that's interesting. I have not heard anything about this, but we're on it. I got another one here. Another one on springa from the 5 10. Can you do a short episode on Springa? The rise and fall of ssd. That's interesting, man. That's two on Springa.
Listener Voicemail
Hmm.
Jake Brennan
Something tells me you guys are coordinating. All right, I said I wasn't gonna do any more than one lot. No, I'm not gonna do that. Cause that's just too damn self serving. All right, 617-90-66638. Send me a text. Leave me a voicemail. I'll take a quick call. Quick break. I will be back in a flash with the recommendations part. All right, we are back. And this is the recommendations part. The recommendations part. The part where we recommend the things that need recommending. The recommendations part. I'm going to keep this tight, okay? At the top of this bonus episode, I mentioned a number of artists that we discuss in our Wu Tang season. So now I'm going to give you specific recommendations for each. Okay? Number one, the Delfonics. If I'm recommending one song from the Delphonics as a gateway drug, it's Didn't I blow your mind this time? And that's because this song left a singeing mark on my heart after I heard it in Quentin Tarantino. It wasn't even about hearing. It was about seeing how Quentin Tarantino used this song in Jackie Brown. Incredible. Number two. Two, the Temptations. Now there are so many great iconic singles and albums to choose from with the Temptations. Also, we have an episode, a disgrace on episode on the Temptations. That's worth checking out. But for me, if I'm going to recommend one thing by the temptations, it's their 1970 foray into psychedelia with their album Psychedelic Shack. Weird as fuck, and worth checking out from this pretty normie group as they go way off the tracks. Number three, Big Daddy Kane. Okay, speaking of normie, normie choices. Anyway, ain't no half stepping from 1988's Long, Long Live the Cane. Number four, run DMC. This one's easy. It's the track, the song, Rockbox. It's for you. Fresh. What? A guitar riff in this song. Eddie Martinez, Respect. Number five, Heavy D. There's only one recommendation, and it's now that We Found Love. What are we gonna do with it? Obviously, number six, Stax Records. Okay, I'm going way off the grid with this one. There are so many Great Stack singles, Great Stacks artists albums, but if you want something totally weird and mean as fuck, check out the 1969 tune Grinder man by John Lee Hooker on the Stacks release. That's. That's right. John Lee Hooker put out a record on Stacks, and it was called that's Where It's At. And this tune, Grindr man from that album, it will not disappoint. Warning, though, it may propel you into a violent, murderous rage. And don't say I didn't warn you. All right, what are you guys listening to? What are you watching? What are you recommending? What do you know about Woo and their influences and what they were listening to that we may not have covered in this season yet? Let's talk about their samples. Let's get into it. Let me know. Okay, hit me up on any of these subjects. 617-90-6-6638. I'm gonna take a quick break. I'm gonna drink some tea and I'll be back right after this. All right, let's recap, shall we? Number one, the first four episodes of our serialized season on Wu Tang Clan, episodes on the rza, Raekwon, Method man and Ghostface Killer are in your Disgraceland feeds right now, as is an archive episode on Ringo Starr.
