With Dalton Rushing (concussion protocol) and Will Smith (herniated disc) both out, the Dodgers are leaning on Robinson far more than anticipated. Catcher depth is a real concern, the Dodgers' backup options in Triple-A (Eliézer Alfonzo, Griffin Lockwood-Powell) aren't on the 40-man roster, leaving the team without a clean emergency option. Dave Roberts expects Dalton Rushing to clear concussion protocol and return the next day, but the situation remains fragile. Kyle Tucker remains sidelined through the Twins series and possibly beyond. Doug reiterates his push for the Dodgers to put Tucker on the IL and give him a proper reset, noting that the offense — while still elite — is missing a key piece. Despite Tucker's absence, the team owns the best record in baseball. Shohei Ohtani opened up on his pitching philosophy in Japan's "Number" magazine, saying he treats each start as potentially his last and refuses to hold back. Backup Chuckie Robinson went 0-for-3 in relief. Catcher depth is a real concern. With Will Smith already banged up and Rushing now in concussion protocol, DMAC argues the Dodgers need to explore bringing back Ben Rortvedt (formerly with the Mets) given his familiarity with the pitching staff and the fragility of the catcher position. Kyle Tucker's struggles go deeper than a slump. Tucker's Dodgers numbers (.234 AVG / .331 OBP / .374 SLG / .705 OPS) are dramatically below his career averages. His barrel rate has nearly halved to 5.6%, he's swinging at first pitches over 50% of the time (career norm: ~20-30%), and he's hitting just .191 with a .592 OPS at Dodger Stadium vs. .277 / .816 on the road — suggesting the home crowd pressure may be a factor. Should the Dodgers call up James Tibbs III? DMAC suggested the Dodgers phantom-IL Tucker, call up James Tibbs III and platoon Ryan Ward/Alex Call in the outfield. He argues that allowing Tucker to press through a mechanical issue just keeps him average — and "you don't pay $60M a year for average." Tucker left tonight's game with a lower back spasm. Tucker speaks after the game. Tucker described his back "lighting up" between innings, said he's had it before and recovered quickly, but acknowledged rotating motions (throwing, swinging) aggravated it. Sheehan posted a 4.70 ERA and 86 ERA+ on the season (14% below league average), with his shortest outing of the year against the Angels. DMAC sees him as the odd man out once the rotation is at full strength. Shohei Ohtani on Historic Pace. Since May 10th, Ohtani leads MLB in wRC+, hitting .379/.469/.653. DMAC contends he's on pace for the best season in baseball history and is headed for a fifth unanimous MVP — the only player ever to win it more than once. Dodgers All-Star Outlook. Locks include Ohtani, Andy Pages (leads CF in HR and RBI), and Max Muncy (leads NL 3B in HR). Yoshinobu Yamamoto is likely in. Freddie Freeman, Wrobleski are on the bubble. Mookie Betts, Kyle Tucker, and Will Smith are currently not tracking toward a selection. Skubal Re-Signing Possibility. DMAC dismisses the idea that LA can't retain Skubal post-trade, noting he's a West Coast native (born in Hayward, CA, raised in Arizona) and that the Dodgers have re-signed rental acquisitions before.
