And then there was no market for him in the beginning until Rich Paul created a market. And that's, that's brilliant.

Which, by the way, that, that's what you dream of having an agent that can, they can do that. Now, listen.

And that's why he's really good at what he does. Do. I agree with everything he does. No, but he's really good at what he does. So, so there's, there's that. I do think LeBron's holding up some deals that could be done, and the Knicks might have residual from some of these deals that could be done. There's players that are still waiting to sign, so there's still some things that are out there, but. Yeah, but I do think it starts to turn the business towards next season. Schedule is going to come out in August, and when it does, that's when you really start officially looking towards next season. I think we're still. And I'M trying to do it to. Trying to live in the. In the moment and let it last as long as you possibly can. But I would say last night was sort of like the closing ceremony and

a really good one because it was a clean sweep. And, you know, the sbs obviously are just a fun. It's not a super serious award show. With the exception of the big moving moments, the awards themselves, Jim Abbott was phenomenal. Every time they honor, you know, they do the Jimmy V Award, any of

that stuff is Pat Tillman Award.

Pat Tillman is serious. But then the awards are never that big a deal. But when you have something like last night, where it is like a clean sweep and it's this real coronation, it does start to take on a little bit extra. Maybe I'm biased. We're all too close to it, but that's how it felt last night.

It did. It did. And I think around the country, what you saw was frustration about the Knicks winning certain things. When you consider that, you know, the two Olympic hockey teams won gold and how do you compare that? Right. Like that I saw frustration. I need to remind Everybody that the ESPYs are not chosen by ESPN's panel of experts.

Right.

Therefore you can have a conspiracy about, you know, ESPN just wanted it this way. It's fan vote, and this is what fans wanted. So did fans vote enough for Texas softball or, you know, the US Olympic teams, either men or women?

Well, some of those, some of those were a tough out. And that's what I was trying to say yesterday.

[Alan Hahn]

What we mean.

I'm sorry. As excited as people were in the moment not to rain on hockey Fans parade, the U.S. national team isn't getting the hype the Knicks are, bro. Like, that was a moment and then it goes away. These, these people don't spend their whole lives being US Hockey fans. They spend their whole lives being New York Knick fans. The passion is different. None of those college teams stand a chance. It's just the play, the other plays didn't really stand a chance because. And this is just sort of a follow up to the discussion you had with Mike Wilbon that day. I was on get up with you of the level of popularity this team. And now it's going to be bigger than ever. Yeah, that's what championships do.

Their stuff sells. They're always the top selling. You know, to see again, the. Speaking of fanatics, I mean, it broke a record for the amount of championship apparel that they sold. They'd never have sold that much championship apparel.

[Peter Rosenberg]

By the way, people still haven't gotten theirs. Everyone's still waiting.

It's amazing. That's amazing. But, you know, it wouldn't have been a way to have a closing ceremony if we didn't have an OG anunoby moment.

Out of all the things that you saw and they did some skits, Will Ferrell was part of something. Like they, you know, they had.

But that was a pretty good. That was very entertaining. There was a lot of little moments.

nothing made me laug. And I guess if, you know, you know, might be part of this, because around the world, they might have been like, why is that funny? And an OBI won the. The best play the. The tip in game four. And when he took the stage, all of us that know him well, myself who's interviewed him, so I've dealt with him when it comes to interviews. We know he has a. He has a. Is it an appealing awkwardness? Is that the best way to put it?

Charming.

It's charming, for sure. And he came up to the stage and you just knew, and all his teammates knew that it was going to be unintentionally hilarious.

It's truly such an honor to win an ESPY to cap off an amazing gear and special run for our team. To the best fans in the world, we thank you for all your love and support. I edited that a little bit because for some reason, when he first got to the microphone, he does what he does. He did it to me twice until I gave him his own microphone. He can't help it. He's got to hold the microphone. It's a stick mic, but he still had to hold it. And now, of course, the microphone is not set for a guy 6, 9, or 6, 8, so he had to, like, bend over a little. So in the middle of talking, he went into this, like, tripod stance.

I did notice the tripod where he.

He split his feet wide so he could be low enough. And everybody just started cracking up like, what are you doing? And he started laughing because he realized, oh, does this look weird? Yes. Yeah. Oh, gee, it looks weird, but it's so him. And it was so funny. And that's again, that's, that's the fun part about this team. Just like when the Knicks won for best team and Kat and Jalen Brunson both took. Took the mic to point out who's not there. Want to say thank you to the

Well, that's what, that's one of the things that makes them charming though. They're, they're, they're this very. The friendship is palpable. I mean, not just because of the podcast though that's part of it, but just the whole thing, the way that they've carried themselves. It's very endearing. All among the many reasons I knew the Knicks would absolutely sweep and dominate last night.

Yeah, I probably should have seen that coming, especially when everybody was there. You're not bringing that whole crew if you don't know that you. Yeah, you guys have won a bunch of stuff, so we need you there. Anybody in the area, you can, you can come hang out with that in mind as we go, as we look forward. Because they have like, you could see the chemistry, the appeal, all that stuff. Right. How much fun they have. The fact that all five starters are signed four key bench pieces. Obviously they will miss Mitchell Robinson, who is also a character in his own way that they all really loved in that room, but because all that's there and when you think about it, Boston has a new chemistry now. Like that's not the same group anymore. That's going to be a thing to adjust. New team, Philly, same thing. Adding Brown changes everything is not as what you think. That's a chemistry that's going to take a minute to figure out. It could hit. It could. Giannis going to Miami. Bam. I mean, when I say bam, I mean Adebayo. What else did they have on that team? But still Giannis adjusting to a new place. You see what I mean? Give me the, give me the team. That's like hitting the ground. Does that benefit, in your opinion? The Knicks who run it back literally have the built in chemistry and now of course have the confidence from demonstrated performance, which is no longer a can they win a championship. They know they can. Does that benefit them when it comes to a Repeat or at least getting back to the finals in the East.

Well, there's two factors. There's the fact that the Knicks stayed completely together and intact, with the exception of Mitch. And there's the fact that everyone else has these changes, everyone else having these changes where they have to gel again.

[Alan Hahn]

Even Indiana, with Halliburton coming back, what condition is he in? He hasn't played in over a year. They add a new piece in Zubotz, makes them look different than when they had Miles Turner. So the only have a little difference.

[Peter Rosenberg]

About the only issue could be is, is if, you know, last year was lightning in a bottle and this just isn't happening for them again.

[Alan Hahn]

And it could be.

[Peter Rosenberg]

And then you look up at the Knicks and you're like, hey, it's the same group, but it's not, right.

[Alan Hahn]

No, you look like the year you look like two years ago, right? You look like that team.

You don't look like you.

Like you turn back into a pumpkin, as they say. But.

But to me, I think it was the right thing to do to please the fans, to reward the players who did what they were supposed to do. Agree to say, we're going to try this again, of course. But fans just need to know there's a chance that when you do that it works. And you go, whoa, we have a dynasty potentially forming here. Or it doesn't. And it was that one year and you take it and that's it.

Just getting multiples, right? Just. Just give multiples. Now, the other part of it is seeing a team. Those bench guys might have gotten more money elsewhere, but they all. Clarkson sham it, Right. They wanted to come back to be part of running it back. We already saw Brunson leave money on the table. I'd be interested to see if Carl Anthony Towns, who has an extension due, if he's going to get an extension and then keep his roots down now. Right. Be here long term. Is he thinking the same thing? What's it worth to me? Because look at the league and what you've learned. If I take every penny, supermax, Max, whatever it is, do I force the team to end up trading me in two, three years because it just gets impossible to afford everyone. Or do I say it's more valuable to me to still get 200, whatever it is, million. But know that I'm not a debilitating contract and I can be here and don't have to worry about being in, quote, unquote, trade rumors. It's an interesting conversation, right?

Because you could tell These guys all love being together. They have found a place together where it comes to a connection. And now it's to really test it by seeing do the high end guys all say, I don't have to get every penny. Hope I get the invite. Every single thing. Best athlete, all that stuff. He's joining Elite Company. He's joining LeBron, he's joining Jordan. Like you don't just get best athlete, you know what I'm saying? On top of every single thing. Like he swept everything. You talk about the NBA Cup, NBA cup mvp, conference mvp, finals mvp. I mean, damn, what else did he leave room on the table for anybody else? I've seen people get into the hall of Fame with less.

More importantly, I also think it locks in hall of Fame for him. He's a two time NCAA champion. He is a player of the year in college. And then now when you bring it to this point where you get an NBA championship as well, he's in the Hall.

For NBA career, I think he'd be on a trajectory towards hall of Fame.

But you would still need to see more. You probably would. But I mean, he's. These last four years though, if you look at his numbers, especially in the playoffs, you could make the case that the. That the ring now puts him in for good. But I just think when you put it all together, it's not even a question like 11 is going up. That's a given in the. In the. In the garden for sure. 11 is going up. He'll go into Springfield hall of Fame. All that stuff to me is now complete. Everything now from this point forward after for his career, like all that's left is what is driving him. And really what is there left for him to accomplish? Honestly, what. It's a fair question to ask. He's already silenced every critic, any doubters. He's now put himself into a place where guard 6, 2 and under as the lead player, the 1A to win a championship. That's us. Very, very. To win a champion. Very small list. He's on that list all time great. So when you're an all time great, you're there. He top 100 player all time.

It started the only one based in New York. It does start here because there was an announcement made yesterday by Good Karma Brands.

And they manage this radio station now. We are ESPN New York by brand. We work for ESPN as talent, but the station itself is managed and controlled by Good Karma Brands. That's. They run A ton of stations all around the country do a great job, and they do a very good job. And so one of the announcements, the announcement made yesterday, which again, like, when you see it, you're like, wow, that's pretty cool.

That's what I thought. I was into it.

[Alan Hahn]

But what it ended up being was something that upset local fans, including fans that are the Jets. And I'm trying to get the. The exact post, but the Bills announced that they have signed deals with, I believe, the numbers 23 affiliate radio station.

Okay.

[Alan Hahn]

That go beyond their station in Buffalo. That is the flagship that calls their games. And, you know, we're talking about areas in western New York, of course, lower New York State, Pennsylvania, Florida, believe it or not. And right here in New York city.

[Peter Rosenberg]

What?

[Alan Hahn]

So 10:50am, 10:50am, ESPN New York is now the. The home of Bill's football. Ray Row.

[Peter Rosenberg]

Well done.

[Alan Hahn]

And I love this, by the way. I couldn't believe the vitriol that that information received. And I'm thinking the jets didn't want to do business with us anymore.

[Peter Rosenberg]

No.

[Alan Hahn]

Chose to go to a rock station.

[Peter Rosenberg]

Yeah. They're on a music station somewhere.

[Alan Hahn]

And what are we supposed to do? Bill's come to us and they have, as Anthony told us yesterday, 1.3 million fans. They have.

That's what their research has shown. Their research says they have around 1.3 million Bills fans in the Tri State, which you and I were discussing yesterday. And when you do the math on it.

[Alan Hahn]

Okay, yeah, that's a lot of fans.

[Peter Rosenberg]

It's a lot of fans. And it seems. I mean, it makes sense.

[Alan Hahn]

It does. I mean, again, they put. They feel like this will help them reach 3 million people. 30. I'm sorry, 30 million more people.

[Peter Rosenberg]

You mean these 23 stations.

[Alan Hahn]

Yeah. And as I'm looking at it, Erie, Pennsylvania, Bradford, Pennsylvania, Williamsport, Pennsylvania. So are the Steelers and Eagles feeling away? You can't do this without permission, of course. So clearly there must have been some conversation with the NFL about the Bill saying, hey, we've got a sizable fan base down in the Tri State area and we have the ability to have our games broadcast down there. Even though it's close, it's in close proximity to where the jets and Giants play. Especially the jets, who of course are a division rival. The league would have said no if there was a problem with it. So either the league says this is fine, or the jets and Giants said, yeah, we don't care one way or another. That's what happened. And so we enter a deal, an agreement and now when I say we, you gotta understand it's not like our station now becomes the official home of the Bills and we're gonna do all the same stuff we used to do with the Jets. Not like that. It's on 1050. We're mostly on 880. And we're really mostly on the app.

Right. And maybe other places.

All the affiliates the jets do have. And I think one of the affiliates is Rochester.

Oh, so they do have an upstate New York state.

So Rochester is western New York. Last year is.

You bet your ace. So if the jets can be in Rochester, why can't the Bills be in New York City? That's what the Bills probably were saying. What I don't get is the response that I saw from a lot of jets fans. And one of the things that I saw was, you shouldn't be allowed to do this. The station should not do this. It's a bad look. And I'm thinking it's business. Guys, the jets left us. We didn't say we're all set with you. They. We were. We were in contract with them as we were for years. And in that situation, they decided they didn't want to go in the direction that we were going in. We were giving them a ton of coverage. We were giving them a lot of space in our shows.

I mean, listen, I had to interview.

We talked more about bad Jet football than we really should have.

How many Giants fans are like, why the hell are you guys talking Jets? They suck. Well, we have to. They're a partner.

I was not paid enough for the amount of conversations I had to have with losing jets football coaches over the 10 years I've been here.

My friend. I am a Jets fan. There were things I did not want to do talking about that team. But you ha. You know, you knew as a partner, it's like a lot of things that you do. So the jets didn't want to be part of us. They went to a rock station which does not talk sports all day long. Nothing. And then just randomly on a Sunday morning or Sunday afternoon, I should say, or a Sunday night or a Thursday night or a Monday night, randomly. They'll stop playing music and just here's a Jets game out of nowhere, right?

Yeah, that's, that's. And they do that in other set. Other markets too.

[Alan Hahn]

It's done. But it's done. Not in New York. It's. Come on. People know where to go. Sports talk radio. The Knicks and Rangers, they're fine with us. We got a deal going with them. Bet your ace direction we went. They were happy to follow. Happy to be a part of it. How's it working out for them?

And just to go to a place that there's no coverage anywhere outside the parameters of the game broadcast, you're getting nothing. Maybe that's what they want. It's not a great business decision, but again, it's the jets.

So not good business decisions is their M.O.

i tell you what, I'm very impressed with Darren Muji. I think he's a really sharp general manager who's done a great job. If Darren Mujee was in charge of this decision, he wouldn't have made this decision. He would have been like, what are we doing? Smart place to be is on a sports talk radio station that we've been with forever. That's going to cover us throughout the day. Not random parachute.

You do. You do lose. You do lose a little bit of the. Being a part of the conversation by not being on a station. There. There is something to be said for that. Although, you know, listen, the fact of the matter is, I'll play the other side, Alan. If the jets were good, we'd be talking about them all the time anyway, you know, whether they were on our error or not. So I will say that. But guess what? They're not good. So you want people to talk about

So it was Kevin Maher, a good friend at News 12, who said the Buffalo Bills will broadcast their games in the Tri state area via ESPNY radio 1050am If I'm the Jets, I'm not happy about that. My response was they left our station. Which is true, accurate and mars response was so once again, the Bills saw a hole and the jets in the jets plan and ran right through it. Yes. So the responses, some are basically like, you know, the Bills are the real New York team. Okay. Somebody pointed out that the Bills stadium, the new stadium.

Yeah.

Was built using a lot of New York State taxpayer money.

[Don LaGreca]

Right.

[Alan Hahn]

Which most of the jets and Giants fans are from where? New York, New York State. But the jets and Giants don't play in New York State.

[Peter Rosenberg]

No, only Bill in New Jersey.

[Alan Hahn]

They don't even have a facility. Neither team has a practice facility anymore in New York State.

[Peter Rosenberg]

So Bills have everything in New York City.

[Alan Hahn]

Bills are like, thank you for your money. Because you think like it's not just they're only not taxing, just western New York for the stadiums, the whole damn state. So if you're a Giants fan who lives, you know, in Westchester, guess what? You helped fund a new stadium for the Bills. If you're a Jets fan who lives in Nassau county, guess what? You just helped the Bills fund their new stadium, whether you like it or not. Some other things that are said here, this is blasphemous. The team that supported the Blue Jays over the Yankees, they're the Toronto Bills. What's next? Philly basketball? I don't know. The Sixers don't have that many fans up here. Clearly the Bills do.

By the way, guys, that's a very different situation. You have to know how many people from upstate now live in the city or moved here or their parents are from. If my parents cared about sports, guess who they'd be fans of? Buffalo Bills.

Why?

My dad's born in Brooklyn and then lived in Queenslow. He was 10, but then moved upstate. Went to Albany. My mom is from Beacon. Went to SUNY Albany. My dad was Kingston.

[Alan Hahn]

Albany was really Giants. That's really still Giants territory, though. Albany, is it? Oh, yeah, yeah.

Why is that?

[Alan Hahn]

It just is. They also used to practice. Their training camp used to be up there. Interesting, interesting, interesting. Somebody. When I said they left us, somebody said, so. Blanking. What? Don't broadcast the blanking Bills. That's business.

yeah, just like a lot of that kind of stuff. Like where it's basically like this. It's the wrong thing to do. And I'm just trying to remind everybody. No, once they left, they told us they didn't want to do business with us. Okay, fine. We can't do now business with anybody else we want to do business with. Is that how they're supposed to work? We're just supposed to now sit out and say, oh, well, they took their games somewhere else, so we're just gonna now stay out of the game? That makes no sense. So instead we found a partner that's going to bring an audience. It's on 1050. It's not going to. It's not going to get in the way of anything else. But it's still. I just did not understand how frustrated people got about this. I wonder, Peter, if Ira in Staten island is frustrated, I'd be so curious

Not. Not on your end. I think you guys did the right move because it's a business and you're looking to make money. And if somebody bailed on you, you had to fill a spot. So. I support espn and I think it's mind boggling that the jets left in the first place, but it's just. It's so hard to believe that one of the leading stations, if not the leader in New York City, sports radio, and you're the home of the Buffalo Bills and the jets, they run a music station. Once again, it's way above my understanding. I don't Understand your business, but I think it was so wrong for them to ever leave you in the first place. And I think you guys did the right thing. And you know what? You know, if people don't like it, don't listen to 1050 when the bills are on. That's all you do.

[Alan Hahn]

Right. I think you have. Right. It's not like it's going to be in your face, but that's. That's just the way it goes. But I don't, like I read it just. I can't understand that kind of response, the vitriol response from jets fans that are mad about something like this. The Bills clearly have an audience down here. They wanted to get down here and like to think that the Bills. I don't think the Bills think they're going to steal fans. I don't think it's that.

[Don LaGreca]

That's right. It's just, you know, if you live to talk to the jets, they don't. They went to that other station because they thought they get a wider network or more coverage, and the Bills are doing the same thing. And like I said, it's. Once again, I support your end. You guys did the right thing by hooking up with the Bills. It's sad to say that, but they fought the jets, forced your hand. So I support ESPN and any Jet fan that feels you guys did the wrong thing, they don't get it.

Yeah, no, thank you, Ira. I mean, at least he is one of the diehard jets fans. They completely understand it. I think the Florida one's more interesting.

[Peter Rosenberg]

Why is that?

[Alan Hahn]

Well, the fact that a team in Buffalo, if you live in West Palm beach, you'll be able to tune into Bill's football.

[Peter Rosenberg]

But again, think about how many upstate people move to Florida.

[Alan Hahn]

But it's not. That wasn't my point. The point is that it's like, why did it take this long?

[Peter Rosenberg]

Oh, right. You mean for here. Yeah, I told that part. I totally agree with.

Do we know if the Yankees are in, like, Tampa? Can you hear the Yankees in Tampa?

They have to have an affiliate in Florida.

There's no.

There's Tampa. Let me, let me, let me do the work.

Because that, again, that's all part of the business. And once again, if you're the jets or the Giants, how are you not seeing this and saying, hang on a second. Like, if you're the Giants, you're telling me that you couldn't get in North Carolina, in South Florida, they are in. You couldn't get like an affiliate there. That's going to have your games.

So it's. So with the Yankees, they only have two affiliates that I see fully out of the area.

Out of the area. What do you got?

Tampa, Florida.

And Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Don't ask me why that's interesting. But, but yeah, back to the other point though. They have Newburgh, Middletown. They have New Haven, Connecticut. Yeah, they have Syracuse, they have Utah, they have Albany, they have Hartford. Yes, they have the places where it makes sense.

It makes sense. The Connecticut one's interesting because that's like New Haven that's infringing on Patriot territory. But, but New Haven's got history with the Giants, so it makes sense. Yeah, see, it's, it's what you're supposed to do. And again, as I mentioned, the jets have affiliates too, and they go as far up as Rochester, which is generally considered to be Bill's territory. So this is part of the deal, this is part of the game and it shouldn't bother you, but you know what should? Over unders. Now, we've already done the over unders, Peter. We know what they are for the jets and the Giants. But where's the money going? Where do you see where the money's going for both the jets and the Giants right now?
