B
Han, you heard a squish.
C
And Rosenberg shake gently to assure complete activation.
A
Hello. This isn't North Dakota. This is New York.
B
This is Don Hahn and Rosenberg.
A
The best threesome I've ever heard on.
B
880 ESPN and the ESPN New York app.
A
Fast approaching 301 in the big city. Don Hahn and Rosenberg complete for the first time since late June. Really? I got to go back even far. I. Yeah, whenever. What was the date of the beach bash was what, June 27?
C
Yeah.
A
That's the last time we were all in a room together outside of the meeting, breaking bread.
B
Now think about it. The last time we were all together doing a show in sober was probably the 26th.
A
I did drink on the 27th. I was not drunk per se, but I. I was feeling it.
C
I will say. I will say I was not drunk either, but it was the most I've ever drank during the show. Hands down. I had a great time that day. Then we went and had a meal. Like some jamming.
A
We broke bread.
C
People were revealing things right and left. Alan was revealing things.
B
Don't remember a thing.
C
Said a lot of things that day.
A
Because the only person who said he.
B
Wasn'T drunk was Alan.
D
But.
C
Yeah, but he said things. Yeah, things were said during the night.
B
Whatever I said, I.
C
Surprising stories.
B
Completely deny.
A
Well, that. Well, the big take from our dinner.
B
Oh boy.
A
Was how he doesn't wait for tables. Remember, like he stormed out of the restaurant. We had to go out and get.
B
Stormed out is an exaggeration.
A
But I don't wait for tables. It was more the statement than the actual part.
C
I hadn't gotten there yet. Remember, I got a. I had to do a thing first. At that I had to stop by my buddy's store. So I was about 10 minutes late.
B
That's right.
C
So there was. There was a thing first.
A
I don't wait well, I even missed it because when I came into the restaurant, we were told there was a wait. Well, no, Michael. Michael was getting everybody together and I went to use the facilities. I come back and then I hear there's a wait. And Alan stormed out. And I'm thinking, we're not gonna do anything here. And then they. They were able to wedge a couple of tables together and make it work. So I actually thank you, Alan, for causing the scene. You got us a table a little quicker than normal.
B
It was not storming out. It was standing like a bunch of, you know, goofballs around the hostess stand with the whole restaurant just staring at you as you're standing around loitering.
C
Look at this.
B
No, let's just go out. Like, there's no bar to go sit and have a drink at, so let's just get outside. Let's get away from, like, I don't want to be staring at you. Like, what are these dopes doing?
A
He's kind of describing storming.
C
It's.
B
It's close to storming, but nice day.
A
That was back. That was back, like, in June. So much has happened since then. We're all back. How many trips to Europe did Peter make?
C
Twice.
A
Twice out to France.
B
Peter's in Paris.
A
Recently in Paris.
C
Peter's in Paris.
A
Peter's in Paris.
C
I'm French. Adjace right now, Guys, I went to Disney. How do you like this? I went to Disney Paris, and I'm having. I have a moment where I was there for five minutes before my wife goes, oh, can we stop in the. In the, in the store? Five, five, five seconds. I want to get a shirt.
A
Cool.
C
We go in. Natalie picks the Disney shirt. And to Natalie's credit, she did manage to find the coolest looking Paris Disney shirt. I love the shirt she got. It's great choice. We go to buy it. My credit card is. As God is my witness, my credit card's in the machine, and I go, wait a second, is there an employee discount here? And the person's like, absolutely. I yanked my card from that machine. So I went, excuse me, how much is the discount to 25%. I said, oh, no. I had to save my money for the. Everything else that was spent that day.
A
But then all the times you have all the places you don't work at.
C
Yeah. So then I walked out. And I go, exactly.
A
Well said.
C
And then I walk outside with Natalie and I go, well, I should call John, because John Winthrop, our program director, we all know to call him a Disney enthusiast is both disrespectful to John Disney and the word enthusiast. So I said, let me. I should call. I should call John and, like, just find out if there's anything else I need to know how about this? The guy doesn't answer my FaceTime and then doesn't even, like, send a text.
B
Like, you good did anything.
C
Like, wouldn't you think about I hit you guys with a random FaceTime from Europe. Wouldn't you hit me back? Go. Hey, everything all right?
B
Well, remember, I believe he was also. Maybe he was on the cruise, if I'm not mistaken. The best.
C
He saw it, though. He said he thought it was a butt dial, so he didn't even bother.
A
The best way to describe our boss, John Winthrop at Disney is in the throes. He was in the throes of Disney, so I can understand him.
B
Not.
C
And by the way, can you imagine knowing that football was less than two weeks away?
B
Yeah.
C
And he was at Disney.
A
Right.
C
John is lucky he made it back without being arrested for, like, indecent exposure.
A
It was like numbing agents so there.
B
Wouldn'T be an accident or their next kid's on the way. You know what the odds are?
C
They go, there could be another.
B
I just look.
A
John just looked at the sky. I think a little bird of the gods, that that's not true.
B
Another kid might be on the way.
C
Football and Mickey at the same time.
B
A lot there.
C
Can I say one more thing while we're on the topic of Disney? So at the end of the day, the thing that Natalie was very excited about, wanted to wait till the very end was, and I'm sure this is very common, was to see the firework display at the end of the day. Right.
A
Is this with the 3D glasses and you see the little Mickey Mouse.
C
No, there was no 3D glasses. But it's 1040 at night, by the way. At least in Paris, 1040 is when they do the firework display. Okay, so we're there. Natalie really just wants to get basically video. You know, she cares a lot about visuals. As you guys know, she's a photographer. She wanted me to get video or photos of her with the baby with the fireworks around her at Disney. That's what she wanted. Guys, why do men have to pick up their 8 year old children and put them all on their shoulders so no one can see anything? If, you know, if no one did that, then everybody could see. You can make a little space and everyone can see. If your kid practically has his driver's license, he doesn't need to go on your shoulders.
B
Mm, Disagree. That is. No. That is a part. If I may. Done.
C
Please, go ahead.
A
No, let's not forget 430 is talk about a Tuesday So I don't know.
C
Maybe I'll save it.
B
Yeah. Cuz I do have, I do have a rebuttal.
C
And by the way, you're too tall to put anything on your shoulder.
B
People like Alan should be acting, right.
D
Height.
C
No, you should be.
A
Children have had nosebleeds.
C
Allen should be. People of Allen's height, they should say, oh, sir, you have to stand on the side. You can't even stand in the middle. Imagine standing behind Allen. It's something you're trying to see.
B
He's a heightist now.
C
Yeah. A segregationist when it comes to height.
A
Look at this.
C
Send him off to the side.
B
I guess I'm not welcome in this world.
A
Well, just not in front of him.
C
Not in front of me.
A
You're welcome behind him.
B
Oh, oh, in the back.
A
Yeah.
B
Is that what you're sending me?
C
The side. The side.
B
That's swap.
A
His eye. That's right.
B
That's worked well historically.
C
Well, the tall will be. All right.
A
All right. So we're back together. And this is what happens when we finally get back together.
B
By the correction of course, suffering Jim says June 24th would be the last time in studio for the three of us. Oh, in studio reminding me you were off on the 25th and 26th. That is NBA draft. That is true.
C
Studio since the 2024.
A
So this is good. And there's, there's football on the horizon. Thursday we get our 2025 season underway. There'll be games on Thursday, Friday. And right into it, after watching what was some amazing college football over the weekend and some not so amazing and not so amazing. True. A lot of things to discuss but you know, there, we mentioned it on Friday, Peter, your last day off is that, you know, one of the things that once we get back together, it's on. You know, there's a lot of baseball talk that's kind of for the sake of baseball because it's in the middle of the summer, there's not a lot going on, but it's on now. You know, Mets, Tigers, they continue their series. Mets win despite getting zero pitching. And now the Yankees start these 12 game bacchanal in Houston against the Astros. We're going to find out what these teams are made of. They're playoff teams. I don't think the Reds are going to catch the Mets and certainly the Royals and the Guardians aren't going to be catching the Yankees. But now it's just about, you know, solidifying a playoff spot where you're going to finish Yankees very much in play. To win this division, they're only two and a half back at Toronto along with Boston, the Mets. I think the ship sailed as far as catching Philly all of a sudden. And you know, so when I look at this series and Allen and I kind of had a little bit of a disagreement, I know it begins tonight against the Astros for the Yankees, because the Astros are a first place team and the Yankees lost two out of three earlier in the season to the Astros. And the Tigers are thrown in there too, Peter, because the Tigers lead their division and the Yankees have lost against the Tigers. But to me, the meat of this 12 games are the three games against Toronto in the three games against Boston, because that's who you're chasing in the division. Yankees want to be able to get ahead of the Red Sox. So if they have to settle for the wild card, they get those games at Yankee Stadium and not Fenway. And then the Toronto, for obvious reasons, they want to be able to win this division. So as much as we can make a big deal out of Houston and Detroit, I think it really is about how they play against Toronto and Boston. So if you're going to win seven or eight games in this 12 game bulk here, make sure the majority of those games are against Toronto and Boston. That's. That's what's important.
C
What if I throw this at you, though? Does any of it matter? I was just listening to a fine Michael K. Show program where he does a good job. He does. Oh, especially with the baseball, if you know that the man.
B
I've heard him. He's good.
C
No, he's good. And hearing him break down, you know, this particular Yankees team, the amount of home runs that they hit, you know, only to be outdone basically by the 2019 Yankees. And the conclusion that Michael landed on is, I think, where we all would have landed on. And it doesn't take a baseball savant to know this, is that they will only win if they can mash home runs throughout October. That is the only way to which I could argue, Don, that even if they look great and even if the home runs come over the next 12 games, Allen, we could still get to the playoffs. And when you start seeing the best pitching that is available in baseball.
B
Yes.
C
All of a sudden things tighten up and those home runs go away. It might all be a waste.
B
Yeah, that's kind of been the formula of each season, hasn't it? Like, isn't that, Isn't that been. Hasn't that been. The issue is they have been the all or Nothing team. Although I think this year they're a lot more athletic. They run the bases a little more aggressively. Not exactly intelligently at times, but aggressively. But yeah, like that. That's been the problem. Like you're. We could celebrate a team that has four 30 home run hitters on this team. 34. Like. Like things that you aren't used to seeing the most is like the Yankees have done is three. They could have eight 20 home run hitters. And all that stuff is great to celebrate. It's all great to celebrate. But I need to push back against Don telling me that the most important games are Toronto and Boston. We know this because it's the division and we understand that.
C
Right? Factually, that is just true.
B
But if you go to Houston and wet the bed, like historically has happened many times before, since 2015, you have now you could put yourself out of making that Toronto series now matter.
C
True.
B
Like you have three against them in your building. If you are within two, they're two and a half. If you're within two, two and a half, whatever it is, if you are within striking distance, you control your destiny. So to me, every single game in this run matters to. Not just for standings and placement and all that, but it also matters to me optics. You have been terrible. You have been basically mediocre. 537 and 37 against teams with a winning record. But in your division, you're even worse against the better teams. But you also have to understand that it's September now. This is no longer the time to say it's early, we've got time, it's now. And what they do in this block, I don't care how they finish the season, because after this block, they still have 13 games against the dregs of the league again. And they have proven already they can pound the crap out of bad pitching. So they could still wind up with a good position, good in the standings, all that stuff. It's what it looks like for what Peter said. Because when you get now to the postseason, you're going to play teams like this.
D
And.
B
And if you keep showing me you can't beat these teams, how am I supposed to believe that you are a championship contender?
A
I'm not saying they're not important, although. How important are optics? Right? What do optics mean?
B
Well, optics tell you what to expect in the postseason.
A
Right. But it didn't necessarily mean that that's going to happen in the postseason. Right. I understand yourself. Oh, you beat up the White Sox and the Nationals, but then you take on The Astros and you get swept. Something's wrong there. But if you. If. But there are other things at stake here. Right. How you play against the Astros, optically. Yeah, I agree. That's important. But if the Red Sox wet the bed against the Guardians, and we've already saw the Blue Jays lose to the Reds yesterday, they continue their series with a pretty good Cincinnati team, although not great. Only two games above.500. The guardians are only.500. If you don't lose any ground, if you lose to the Astros and you don't lose any ground, then it's not no harm, no foul.
B
Well, there's a million ifs. But the Blue Jays, you can't.
A
You'll automatically lose ground. If you lose to the Blue Jays, then you lose a game completely. You're in trouble.
B
Yeah.
A
So that. That's all I'm saying is, is that you're not going to go 12, 0. So if you're going to lose games.
B
So what do you got?
A
Like we said 8. 8 and 4.
B
8 and 4.
A
Have those four losses be against Detroit and Houston is what I'm saying.
B
So you're going.
C
That's my point.
B
So you're going one and two against Detroit and Houston.
A
Yeah. If you went. If you lost the series against Detroit and Houston and swept Toronto and Boston, you're in fantastic shape.
C
But, you know, by the way, you know that's not happening.
A
I understand.
C
That's just.
A
What I'm just saying is that we can hype up Houston all we want. It's really about the Blue Jays and it's really about the Reds.
C
Now, no part of you, no part of you thinks about how you play Houston just for the fact that you could play Houston again. Yeah. I mean, and by the way, talk about a thing that'll matter again. I've been waiting for this team to show one ounce of heart, one ounce of life against Houston in a big spot. I mean, it's not. The only reason it's not an epic rivalry is because it's just been completely one side.
B
They've knocked you out, what, four times.
A
It's Bulls, Knicks, it's.
C
It's. Yeah, you got. The Yankees are a joke. And the fact that it actually annoys me that it's not taken more seriously.
A
No. People that matter. Like, if you ask fans, like the Red Sox, that's a. That's more of a party favor. Right? It's like, yeah, the Red Sox, we hate the Red Sox. We have to hate the Red Sox. But really, in your soul, recently, your hatred's got to be towards Houston. What they.
C
If you're 25 or 30 years old.
B
You spit on the ground when you say ash.
A
Yeah. So that. So, so that's part of it, is it? That could be fun. Now the Mets side of things, guys, they can't pitch. They can't pitch. When kids are the only thing that is helping you, keeping you alive, you're in a lot of trouble.
C
A lot of trouble.
A
Maniah again can't get through the fourth inning. The Mets bats came alive. Mets and Yankees are very similar in the sense that when they hit it can erase all the other ills. For the Yankees, their inability, the fundamentals and for the Mets their inability to pitch starting pitch goes away when you're scoring 10, 13 runs. Yeah, you're going to win the game. You're going to survive. But they're not getting any pitching. Even Peterson, he got shelled on Saturday. Two of his last three outings have been awful. Senga is a mess. Mendoza said it. We can't fix him. I don't think he's going to make his next start. I think the next start is going to be sproat. I don't know that but I have a feeling that they're going to go into the playoffs. Guys with their best hopes being around three kids. Right? You're getting nothing out of an I, nothing out of Senga. Let's face it. God love Holmes at this point with the innings that he's accumulated after being a closer last year, he's not going to be a big part of it. It's going to be hoping Peterson writes himself and then, and then and three kids. That, that, that is. And that's the team that's going to have to go out there and try to win you a championship. Because if you're sitting there hoping that Mania Sanga any of these guys are going to find it. They're not going to find it, all right? They've been lousy. It's not going to change.
B
And it's probably why David Stearns waited to bring them up because if you bring them up too soon, you're wearing them out too. Right. And so instead bring them up later and have them ready for October. Nolan McClain goes again tonight. He was the first one that really caught your attention of the Young pitchers. He's 3 and oh, with a 89 ERA. He has been lights out. He has been electric and he gets another start tonight in, you know, is it his first on the road by the way. Right. I don't Think he's pitched on the road. Right. It feels like every game he's walking off to an ovation. So correct me if I'm wrong, or maybe did he have one in Washington?
A
Well, the Brave, the Brave game was in Atlanta. Yes, that was. I'm just thinking Seattle.
B
He was a local kid. It was a. Yeah, right. All right. And then Jonah Tom gave you what he gave you on Friday, which wasn't. It wasn't electric and spectacular, but it had moments, got the job done. And so 5 is 22, but yet still that same feeling of okay, gotta look. I really want to see him get another start Friday in Cincinnati. He'll get that. And the last one, as you said, is Brandon Sprot. And he was actually thought to be the first one that would be coming up, but he didn't. And he is now on the expanded roster. And you have to think that with everything like you said, the Mendoza said about Senga. He said things like that, guys, he said things like, we don't know. We have to discussion about what's next for him. Admitting that it's been a struggle for a while and we can't figure it out. We've been trying to get him right. We've been trying. Not like, yeah, we gotta get him right. No, we've been trying and they can't. And the saying it's not fatigue. He said he feels fine, it's just something's wrong. I don't know if that's alarming or if that feels like more hopeful because if he had pain or fatigue, that would probably be more alarming. But if it's just mechanics and he's just got to find it, there could be a bullpen session where all of a sudden it just clicks and suddenly saying is fine.
A
It could be, but like helps you with the tip of the pitch, right? Like you're hoping even though he got hit yesterday.
B
So it's all you can hope for. But you are right though. The future right now, the immediate future of the Mets, or maybe even the long term future of the Mets is relying on these three arms. And two of them are already here and one of them in McLean. That you'll see again tonight has been everything they could hope for. Because right now he could end up being your game one if Peterson can't find it.
A
Yeah, because Peterson got. He was your game one two in his last. I still think Peterson's going to be able to find. I just think it was just a bad day. But you know, five runs against Marlins and what is it about with the Marlins. This goes back, you know, they just. They something. They're about the marlin thorn in your side, man. They are just a pain in the behind and they lose three out of four. They did slug their way through. But listen, this is, this is where we're at, man. This is the starting pitching that the Mets have had. And what did. You were away, Peter. But Mendoza said it's, it's. It's all performance driven now. Like where these kids slot in the rotation. Are they going to be moved to the bullpen? Is all going to depend on how these starting pitchers perform. He said it early last week and since he said it. Which is something you don't get from Boone.
B
Yeah.
A
Like he just said, basically they're auditioning where Boone always tries to find silver linings and everything. Mendoza was talking straight. Stearns was talking straight. I got three kids itching to pitch and if these guys aren't going to pitch, these guys are. None of them have pitched well. Like after they said that they've all spit the bit.
C
You mean no one's no one?
A
No one.
B
No one.
A
They've all been all. Not giving you any length, all getting shelled and meanwhile McClain's been great. Tom came up and did the job.
C
So then McClain is literally simultaneously making you dream of what's possible. How do you not immediately make a move?
A
But it's a great story. I love it.
C
What are you bringing me down for?
A
Melts are built around. How am I supposed to compete for a championship if I got three kids in the rotation? Like I know ignorance is bliss.
C
It's a cool story though.
A
It would be a great story. But come on man.
C
I don't know. Crazy sports stories happen. No one has told McClane yet that it's not supposed to be this way. So like a point. It's a line era.
A
Like why not keep going?
B
I think we've seen this though. We've seen this in history. A young pitcher who doesn't know that he's not what he doesn't know has gone on runs and helped teams win in the playoffs.
A
But now we're not. We're gonna ask three of them to do it because. Yeah, because I'm what? Because if things don't change, let's say sprong comes up at Sunday and pitches. Great.
B
Yeah.
A
All right. And none of these guys turn it around and they got to play a wild card. Could you imagine a three game wild card series?
B
Two 24 year olds and a 24.
A
Year old Tong and Just get aside.
C
From being a Met fan, that would be the most awesome, must see television.
A
It would be great.
C
I mean, it would be. By the way, who was the Ace in 84 and 85? Doc was immediately the ace.
A
No, Doc was a kid. In 84. He got in 84. Right. He was rookie of the year.
C
Oh, 84. He got rookie of the Year.
A
He was rookie of the Year his first year. By 85, he was the man.
C
By 85, he's already the man. So 84. Who. He wasn't the ace yet or. He became the ace during the season.
B
He became it pretty quickly.
A
God, now you're making me go back. Sorry.
C
And the first baseball card I always remember. Yes. The 85 rookie card. It's all I remember when it comes to Doc.
A
Yeah, because he was. In 1984, he was rookie of the Year, won the cy Young in 85. He only won 16 games.
B
84.
A
In 86.
B
Darling was still.
A
Was. They went to the playoffs. Yeah.
B
Sid Fernandez was on that.
A
They got him from la.
B
He was the number one pitcher, man.
A
They got Darling from Texas. Why am I missing somebody?
B
Was Ed Lynch a starter?
A
Ed lynch was a starter. Absolutely.
B
Yeah.
C
Absolutely not an ace.
A
Walterll Walterl was. He was a sidearm.
C
So his rookie year, he became. So Doc became the ace rookie year.
A
Yeah.
B
Yeah. Oh, yeah.
C
So it happens.
B
17 and nine, man.
C
These moments happen. Now, can it happen two or three.
A
Times with three guys?
B
That's that.
C
Well, how good is Sprout supposed to be? I mean, what was the order, Don? Do you know? I know you're not super.
A
Chris Brenny was. Was. Was a. Was a starter for them too.
C
Do you know the order, Don, of who was supposed to be the best of these kids? Like, is it a known thing of who was supposed to be the one of this current group?
A
No.
B
Well, well, Tong was somebody way off the radar. In fact, they told the story about how he was. You know, they were having a minor league game like scrimmage, and he was. Wasn't his turn to pitch. He was a bad boy. That's how Mendoza medal he. Where he served as. And this is typical. If you're not pitching, you have to do something. In these scrimmages. He was serving as the bat boy in that or the ball boy in that game. And Mendoza was watching. And so they talked. That's the first time they met. He was not really a highly regarded, highly touted prospect, but he moved up quickly because his arm was electric. So he's sort of the outlier that suddenly that fast moved up the system. But you know, Sproat and McClain are two guys.
A
They were together, it was always the they were the same class and it kind of reminded me of the Wheeler Harvey. And then all of a sudden degrom came out of nowhere, ended up being better than all of them. So we'll see. But it's really interesting as we get down because it's happening, man. It's right here. Baseball's we're in September. These games are important. Football will Opening Night Thursday. Jets and Giants. How you feeling about them as we get closer and closer?
B
Abercrombie is an official fashion partner of.

D
Welcome back, guys. It's my honor to be your leadoff after you guys having been together all summer. Thank you.
A
Look at you. We're back, baby.
D
So listen. Yeah, you guys are definitely back. I have a Jets question for you guys. But before that, I just want to point out the brilliance of this show. Sometimes you bring up topics, like, weeks ago, and you get your callers to go and do the research. Because I wanted to prove Peter wrong, and I was wrong. You guys are talking about the trash, you trash campaign. You know, don't, don't, don't do New York dirty like that. And you mentioned Nems, and I was like, yo, that that guy sounds like Nems. And Mayor Adams is dumb enough to maybe pony up that money, but the city would never give him the money to pay Nems to be on that ad campaign. And I was wrong. Peter, you 100% right. NEMS on trash, you trash.
C
I told you that wasn't even a question. And by the way, Nems, the great guerrilla Nems, he used to work for the sanitation department. He was a garbage man before he was a rapper, so it even makes double sense.
D
Listen, you put me on research, and I learned.
A
Oh, okay.
C
He's also the guy who invented.
A
Yeah, Bing bong. I know. There you go.
C
You got to know the bing bong.
D
I got educated. Peter, thank you for the lesson, man. Thank you. I appreciate it.
C
You know what?
D
The Jets. You're welcome, Peter Paris. Peter. So what I want to ask you guys is it already looks like Sunday for the jets is not looking good, the way things are shaping up and, you know, the amount of Steelers fans that are going to be there. But my question to you is, who do you think has more juice? Do you think Aaron Rodgers wants to, you know, embarrass the Jets, Embarrass the Jets defense more? Or do you think the jets, some jets defensive players, really want to smack around Aaron Rodgers? Because I imagine some of the guys on the other side of the ball last season, they weren't happy with this guy. So who do you think is going in with more juice. Do you think it's Rogers wanting to beat up the jets or the jets defense, really want to smack him around? What do you guys think?
B
I think Rogers will come in wanting to light up the building, show you what you let walk out the door and then give you. Of course, I never wanted to leave lonely Lombardi and all that stuff. I think it fits his narrative more than anything else because, you know, for Aaron Glenn and company, they've got a long ways to go. Like, you can't. There's no grudge match here. They have no relationship whatsoever. They just told them we're moving on.
A
And also, how many guys from last year's team went on record saying anything negative about Rogers? Like, a lot of them didn't have any problem with him at all.
B
No, they just so wasn't.
A
They might have a chip on their shoulder a little bit about it, but not to the point. Not to the effect where I think Aaron's going to come in here and want to. He's going to want, you know, he's not going to want to shove it down his former teammate's throat. You know, he's going to shove it down Aaron Glenn. Because Glenn didn't want.
B
He's the one who didn't want.
A
Right. So, hey, I'm going to prove you wrong. You wanted to move on from me. Here's what you moved on from. But Rich Samini had.
B
This is interesting.
A
The tweet that Vivid Seats Fans forecast projects 48% of MetLife Stadium will be Steeler fans on Sunday against the jets, if accurate. Now, that doesn't surprise me. Steelers have a Cowboy like, following all over the country, but how are you getting those tickets?
B
Vivid Seats secondary.
A
You get jets fans.
B
That means jets fans, it's your home opener.
C
Well, think about.
B
You're saying I'm good.
A
Well, think about it. What was the. What was the theme? And everybody talked it up as a positive that the jets are laying low. They're not talking any way. They're not giving you any kind of. Any kind of fodder whatsoever, suggesting that this was going to be a complete rebuild season. And there was a lot of Jeff fans that took that as optimism. But there's probably a lot of Jet fans were like, well, if you're not. If you're not excited, then why should I be excited? Jet fans coming from Long island, like, do I really want to drive 3 hours, pay all this money to watch my former quarterback who was supposed to win a Super bowl for me, Aaron Rodgers Light me up. I got Steeler fans wanting to pay maybe triple what I paid for the ticket. You know what? I'm good. I can't kill them for that. Alan. There isn't a lot of optimism coming from the Jets. They're kind of laying low a little bit. I can understand a Jet fan saying, listen, if I pay X amount of dollars and somebody's gonna pay me twice, three times what it's worth, because they want to see the Steelers in New York, all right, I'll miss one game. I can't kill people for that in this economy. Coming from. I always think about John Winthrop, our program director, when he had season tickets, he was coming from, like, Suffolk County.
B
Yes.
C
That's a lot.
A
Isn't that a shrewd business decision, Peter?
C
Absolutely. It's a lot to ask of your fans.
B
It's your season opener. It's the first. Look, it's before the depression kicks in. I gotta tell you, the weather is beautiful. This is not the time to do that. This is not the time to sell out on the team. I don't get this. I could get in October, I might even understand it in late September if you hate the way it looks. But the season opener at home with a new regime.
A
Yeah. Without Aaron Rodgers kind of down, like, you're.
B
All of the things that you might have hated about whatever the jets became with Aaron Rodgers is all gone now. And this is the one you're giving up on.
A
Yeah, because it's the one that I can make money back. You know how much money I paid for tickets?
B
I guess so. I guess that's.
A
I guess I don't want to be that guy. You know, the Judge fans are like, hug. You're not going to be there for opening day. You're not going to be there for opening day. Because I might be able to make three grand off of my tickets. And I could sit there and watch it at home because quite frankly, as much as we all love football, the experience there is not what it's all cracked up to be anymore. Right. I can sit home, watch the game on television. Great. The weather's nice. You like to be there for opening day. I get that. But if you're a Jet fan who went through the opening day against the Bills just to see four plays in Aaron Rodgers season come to an end. And I got a buddy, my landscaper buddy's a big Steeler fan. He's going to give me three times what I paid for my ticket. You know what? I don't want to get into the whole, you're not a good fan. You know what? I pay a lot for the tickets. If a guy wants to make some money back, he's not going to miss the game. He's going to go. All the other home games but this one, you know, I. And maybe, and maybe they have a thrilling win and you'll feel bad about it, but if, if Rogers let you, lights you up for four touchdowns, you lose the game 28, three, you'd be like, you know what? That was money. That was money in my pocket. Thank you.
C
Well, it's, it's, it's risk versus reward. There's such a better chance that you're going to leave the stadium with a three hour nightmare ride. Disappointed. I, I'm sorry that the jets have not earned that from their fans to take that risk at this point. Not this year. Not when there's no hope for what the season's gonna go.
A
If I was, if I was. If the way I was, you know, a Giant fan before I got into this business and how I loved, I wouldn't do it. But I'm not going to criticize somebody for doing it.
B
I'm not criticizing, I'm just surprised.
A
I'm not surprised.
B
Like, I agree with you. If you can get again, I'm actually asking the question right now on Twitter, just retweeting. Rich Samini's tweet about it is. I'd love to know, like, what, what are people getting for these? I'm real curious. How much are Steelers fans willing to pay? Steelers fans, what are you willing to pay?
A
I know Steelers fans.
B
MetLife.
A
My, my, my friend Carmine's a Steeler fan who I grew up with.
B
Okay.
A
Mike Sasso, Mark's brother, big Steeler. They, they go to Pittsburgh to see the team and it's not that crazy. Was like a six hour drive. It's a quick flight, whatever, long day. But you don't get your favorite team playing in your own backyard that often and they want to go. Listen, Danny from Long island, you're on ESPN New York. What do you, what would you pay to go?
D
I don't know. If my kids weren't in college and grown and we'd all go together, I'd make a trip of it. We've gone to Pittsburgh a few times and, you know, I don't begrudge any. By the way, I will be watching my grandson play soccer because when he scores a goal, he's looking for Papa Dan. And a Papa Dan is not there. Aaron Rodgers won't Notice that I'm out of the building. So I know where I'm supposed to. I know where I'm supposed to be in my life. I watch and the game starts later anyway. But like, I don't. These organizations charge you for preseason games like they're regular. I don't begrudge any middle class working guy who can get. I have a friend of mine. There's eight Giant tickets, eight games. I guess he makes the money back by selling the Cowboys, the Green Bay packers and one of the team. Because these market, these fan bases are willing to pay you and you get most of your money back. And you're basically going to three or four games a year for free. I don't. And I don't. Like I said, you're charging me $15 a beer. You're charging me $37 for a steak sandwich. F you. I'll do whatever I want. It doesn't make you less of a fan. It makes you a guy who's trying to get to a wife and put.
A
Bread on the table. Sometimes it's a business decision. Another aspect, Danny, that I didn't thank you for the phone call. Maybe it's a little bit less. Allen, if it's a 1 o' clock start, it's a 4:30 now. It's 4:30 right now. Now what time am I getting home? Right. That game's gonna get over at 7 o'. Clock. By the time I get home, it's like 10, 10:30, 11 o' clock at night. I got work the next day, kids got school. If it's a one o' clock game, I get in early, we tailgate, I'm home, it's one o'.
B
Clock.
A
Is it one?
B
I thought. I thought it's a one. Yeah. They both at once.
A
I could have sworn it was a four.
B
One o', clock, baby.
C
All right.
A
I could have sworn it was a four.
B
Giants are a one o' clock game.
A
Well, then it was a fourth. It was a Nike. Believe me, that it was 75% ste.
B
That I can get again. I understand.
A
430.
B
No, it's a one. Yeah.
A
All right. I miss.
B
No, I thought you gave me a hypothetical, but yeah.
A
No, no, I don't know where I.
B
It's a one and it's. That. That's again, for all the reasons you said is why I'm surprised again. I am not begrudging anyone. If somebody's willing to give you a couple of grand for your tickets and you're like, all right, I can make up some of the loss I'm going to take for the season because later on the year, these tickets are probably worth nothing if they're bad. I'm just surprised that the first game at home, one o', clock, a beautiful Sunday, you do your little tailgate, you have your friends, the season hasn't depressed you yet. There's still the Twins of Hope, but.
C
It hasn't iced you. No, they haven't iced you.
A
We gave them credit for. But this is probably the negative byproduct.
B
No movement about this.
C
I've had so many years like this. Like, I, I've. This is someplace I've been the year starting. You want to. Hey, Peter, you want to go to the Redskins game? I got. Take us to the opener on a random year in which our best player is like Chris Thompson and London Fletcher. No, I don't. I'm going to watch. I will watch, but I'm not doing. I cannot begrudge a Jets fan who in a year. What is the ceiling, guys? What's the ceiling for the jets this year?
B
7 wins? 6.
C
So. So how much?
A
And I'm telling you a lot. A lot. I would say again, don't hold me to this. I wouldn't. I wouldn't doubt if half that building's from New York. Like, so out of the 40. Like Long Island, Brooklyn, they're coming from a long way. It's, it's. It's a hall man. And I can get all my. There. There might be people because Carlin's a Steeler fan, too, from suffering Gym, saying he's going to the game, that I might. If I've got like four tickets, I might be able to have half my season tickets paid for for making this decision now. Rogers, Aaron Rodgers, first game, nine, 11. Like, there's certain demons when they opened up against the Cowboys. Like there's certain times. This is no particular rivalry. I know they played in the championship game a decade ago, but if you're getting.
B
If you're getting majority of that building or half the building or almost half the building in black and yellow, if you're Woody Johnson, how many, like, how many more alarm bells need to be sound?
A
You know, again, I can't get crazy because I don't think it's necessarily a reflection that they did the wrong thing. It's just there's certain. You think it'd be any different if it was Giants, Cowboys? Maybe there'd be a little less because there's a lot of excitement about. There seems to be a little bit more verve for The Giants. But the last couple of years, Giants, Cowboys, more than half that building was Cowboy.
B
Well, yeah, and that, that also is supposed to be a warning shot to the Giants owners as well. But, I mean, Don, like you, you are running a franchise where your fan base has become apathetic.
A
I don't think this is apathetic. I think this is just a shrewd business decision. There's certain teams, Cowboys, Steelers.
B
No, you can't. Like, you're.
A
You're opening one. Like. But Peter said you're opening a season where maybe if everything breaks right, you might win eight.
B
I know, but that's all you get. All you get. And no matter how bad your team is, all you get is the potential to win your first game. That's all you get. If you have that in your pocket, you have that chance. You know what?
C
Like, you have it backwards, though, Allen.
B
Why do I have it backwards?
C
Because with a season like this, where your expectations are so bad. Don, feel me on this. If they surprise you and they look great week one, then the next time the game comes up, you go in with a little bit of hope. You're starting. I don't think anyone has hopes of anything.
B
We says a lot about the temperature of the fan base, doesn't it?
C
Yeah.
B
All right.
C
But does anyone. That's not a surprise. We know what the temperature is. It's Luke Doo Doo. Yeah, we know. This is what it's been.
B
Okay. All right.
C
And look, it's you.
A
You're too.
C
Hey, I got tickets. You want to go?
B
Me?
A
Yeah.
B
I'm not. Definitely not going, but I've made that clear.
A
Well, apparently other Jet fans.
B
But no, but I don't have them to sell. Like, if I had them, if there's ever a game to go to, it'd be the first one just to say I went started.
A
And then they lose 45 to 3. Be like, boy, I wish I sold.
B
Yeah.
A
So it's weighing the pros and cons, and the only way you would regret it is if they had like that victory against the Buffalo Bills when Rogers went down. A shocker, a thriller that they're talking about forever. I can't believe I sold my tickets. But the odds of that compared to, you know what, I just got 500 bucks for $100 ticket. You know what? Good.
B
That's got to be it. They've got to be getting good numbers.
A
I think the Steelers are right there with the Cowboys in popularity, especially with the Steelers having a little bit more success than the Cowboys in recent vintage even though neither of them won a Super bowl that recently. I think the Cowboys, I think the Steelers are right there as like America's team as far as how they're filed, especially in the New York metropolitan area. 1-800-919-3776 Donna Rosenberg we're going to take you up until 6:00'. Football is back and ESPN New York is kicking off season with an NFL watch party for the opening night division matchup between the Cowboys and Eagles. Join Bart Scott, Chris Carlin on Thursday, September 4th at 8pm at Calandra's Italian Village in Caldwell, New Jersey. Hang out with Bart and Carlin. Catch all the action, enjoy drink specials, five dollar margaritas, giveaways and mouth watering food from Calandras. Went there with the family not long ago and it is terrific pizza right out of the oven. Awesome stuff. It's the perfect way to celebrate the start of the season. Reservations are recommended. The NFL season kicks off. Watch party with bart and Carlin September 4th. That's this Thursday 8:00pm at Calandras in Caldwell, New Jersey. Be there. Right on 46. Plenty of parking. Got to see Carlin. Today was always nice. Nice treat to see Chris.
C
I love seeing Carlin. You kidding me?
A
Doing well. It called a great game. Rutgers won last Thursday over Ohio so he's all excited about that. Let's get back to the Busy phones at 1-800-919-3776. Steve in Fairfield, not far from Calandras. You're on ESPN New York. What's up Steve?
D
What's up boys? How's it going?
A
Everything's going Al. I love you baby.
D
I mean you're New York through and through. Everything you're about to. But you sound a little removed from the common. I'm just surprised with your take right here. I mean it's not like Patterotti's going to be singing national anthem and Joe Namus greeting every fan and there's going to be fighters.
A
Big deal.
D
You missed the open. If I can maximize get three games on the house by selling this one game. Big deal. It's the opener and I'm a monster Jet fan. I'm not going to love when the place is going nuts when Rodgers throws a 38 yarder and we're down 10 zip. But I mean I just think I'm just surprised at the Tape, you know.
B
Well, no, no, it's. It's. It really wasn't a take more of a question. But are you sell yours?
D
I'm not a season ticket. I'm not in that. I'm not in that league. Hell no. But I watch every game.
B
Yeah.
D
36 years.
B
So.
D
I would do it. Especially opener. Still fans for this. Oh, you know, it's their opener as well. They're going to pay through the roof on that.
B
Well, that's, that's what I'm trying to find out. If, if I get a number, I'm like, oh, hell yeah. Right. That's what I'm just curious about. That's all I was, I was asking out of curio. I guess I didn't want to come off as if I'm making some kind of statement condemning jets fan. Because that's not what I'm saying or jets season ticket holders. Because I do think it's also. It's emblematic of the temperature of the fan base around this, this franchise right now. It's pretty clear that it isn't like you're just excited for the start of the season because you believe in your team. No. Like you realize what this season is. And if I can get some of my money back because I don't want to give up my season tickets. So if I can get some of it back, if I can recoup it, I got to pick the games that I know I can. Dolphins is one. Steelers clearly is going to be another one.
A
Yeah, I, I wouldn't do it. I'm telling you just as a fan, I would do it.
B
I did not. That was not my intent, but I.
A
Can completely understand somebody doing it. I don't think a person's a moron for not wanting to do it and go to the game. You're a Jet fan, you want to go.
C
Now, you could argue that being a Jet fan and being a moron are synonymous, but not necessarily.
A
I'm not going to go there.
C
Well, how long you've been doing this?
A
And again, we have to also factor in and Alan knows this better than anybody. You know, Long island to New Jersey.
B
That's what I'm getting.
A
It's gotta be.
B
I'm getting a lot of response here. Don, real quick. Just a couple and a lot of them are saying what you just said. It's, you know, Rick is basically saying your three hour ride home to Suffolk county is one thing minimum just for four tickets, gonna be 500. Right. Like just to get in if you're lucky. And you're not going to sit anywhere close. It's not worth it if the product isn't one that is drawing you there and making it worth your while. And clearly it's a wait and see on this product because, look, we'll get into it more during the week. Justin Fields is still a young quarterback, but he's also a quarterback that. We know what he is. And I just. I don't know what people are expecting. You're going to get the same thing you saw in Chicago and Pittsburgh.
A
The biggest change from the jets is really their coach, Aaron Glenn. People don't buy tickets to see a coach.
B
Right.
A
You know, they're. Justin Fields, a nice quarterback. I think. I think it was worth the gamble, but it's not. It's not somebody I gotta go see.
B
Yeah.
A
You know, and it's the Steelers and if it be the Cowboys, probably be the same thing. Randy in Cincinnati. You're on espn.
C
New York.
A
What's up, Randy?
D
How you doing, fellas?
A
Look, I think I am maybe the outlier here, but I think the temperature on the jets is a lot higher than, than what you guys are saying.
D
Jets fans just.
A
They're not going to come out and say it because, like, we don't want to look foolish, but I'm, I'm bullish on this team. We got a great O line, One of the best O lines we've had in probably 10 years.
B
10 years.
D
We. Yes. No one behind.
B
I was just. I'm sorry to interrupt. It's just more than 10 is what I was saying. I'd probably go Back to like 2011. 2010, obviously.
A
Yeah, for sure. And I think the defense, the only weak spot you can find on the defense is the, the safeties. Corners are solid.
D
One of the best nickels in the game.
A
D line is solid. Former all Pro at linebacker. I think that we are. Are really overlooking this team. I'm excited about it.
D
And I think jets fans just don't want to call because they don't want to see.
A
No, I think a lot of Jet fans are cautiously optimistic, but when you say bullish, I think they can win six or seven games and maybe get to eight.
B
The fact that you don't want to say it out loud, it shows you just how sheepish you are about admitting it.
A
There's a lot of, there's, There's a lot of extenuating circumstances around this team. All right, that even when everything's working, what's going to go wrong? I get Jet fans being pessimistic. A lot of the Jeff fans I'm talking to believe that this is going to be a much better year than last year. I mean, but he's hitting a playoff team. Is it a team that's going to be playing meaningful games in December? Maybe.
C
But part of what can make it a better year than last year is the fact that there are no expectations. You know, we can finally move on from the Rodgers expectations. When's he going to turn back?
A
But the negative byproduct of no expectations is there's not going to be a lot of hype around opening. They got to come see this team.
C
The good news is, the good news is these are the years when cool things can happen. The bad news is you go into them very dead and it's very likely nothing will happen. But these are the years, Don. When you make it, you take a turn potentially in the right direction. But ultimately it's going to come down to what they have at quarterback. How much of a turn are they making at quarterback if Fields isn't able to do anything? I'm sorry, I just don't think a.
A
Lot of big chance could do it around that. They're going to be handing the ball off and running the football and that's not exactly getting excited about a quarterback who's going to be a game manager.
C
