Juan Soto is a New York Met. Every Mets game can be heard right here. 8, 80, ESPN, WHSQ and WCBS FM HD 2 New York. Done.
Peter Rosenberg
One day you're not gonna play football anymore. And if there's a God up above, it'll be soon.
Alan Hahn
Hahn.
Don
Huge.
Hahn
No, but big. Yeah.
Alan Hahn
And Rosenberg.
Don
I didn't listen to anything you just said.
Peter Rosenberg
This isn't North Dakota. This is New York.
Alan Hahn
This is Don Hahn and Rosenberg on 8 80, ESPN and the ESP New York app.
Hahn
All right, here we go on it. Is it Wednesday?
Don
It is Wednesday.
Hahn
Is this a Wednesday?
Don
Because today's the three week birthday of Maya Jane Rosenberg.
Hahn
Beautiful.
Don
And speaking of which, to start things.
Hahn
Off, we got my. A little something something.
Don
Now what's going on with the bag that you.
Hahn
I mean, like I said, it's crude. This is me. Stephanie would be embarrassed if she saw what I did.
Don
Well, I have to. I obviously have to put it on. We obviously have to put it up on the instrument.
Hahn
Of course you do. On the show, you have to mock the fact that I just.
Don
I'm gonna send this.
Hahn
I did the best I could. I don't know where she keeps all the gift bags and all that fluff. This is her. But I was home between get up and this show. Home for like a little bit. And I'm like, you know, I've got what? I got something from my. I was very excited about and it arrived and I thought to myself, I don't want to wait any longer.
Don
I like what you've done.
Hahn
But yes, I'm embarrassed that it is a crinkled up pink bag. At least it's pink.
Don
It's pink.
Hahn
And I also used hockey tape. This.
Don
Don, Don, what do you think of MJ on the hockey tape?
Hahn
I did hockey tape.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, what it does is take a lot of pressure off me. When I give you my gift, I might just. Just throw it at you. Just throw it on the floor and say, here, pick it up. Animal. Now it's got hockey tape. It is mj.
Hahn
Yes. Well, I wrote MJ because that's. I like to call her mj.
Peter Rosenberg
We love the mj.
Hahn
The hockey tape was Cali's that was sitting on the counter.
Don
I just went on IG Live. Rosenberg radio. People want to participate here with the big Alan Hahn.
Peter Rosenberg
Are you joining us now?
Don
Yeah, right now. Maybe Natalie's on. She can see as well.
Hahn
Oh, good. I hope she is. And it is.
Don
It is the baby's three week birthday. So the timing is perfect. Let's open it up. We got the crude hockey tape with MJ on it.
Hahn
Okay, you didn't say crude.
Don
Sorry. Nice staple right in the middle. Is that your work?
Hahn
The staple to make sure the bag, it didn't fall out of the bag. Oh, my God. Here we go. I told you I went straight up dad on this thing. There you go. Just rip it because the bag's useless. Now, that's good radio.
Don
Oh, this guy is gonna be very popular with the wife. This guy is gonna be very popular. Don, what I just pulled out was a beautiful black Jordan box. Now, it took Don over 50 years to get his first pair of Jordans.
Hahn
Whose fault is that?
Don
Well, it's Don's, but I took care of it recently.
Hahn
Okay. I was gonna say, as long as you're a good friend, that's what you do.
Don
Open in the box again.
Hahn
Mm.
Don
Oh, look at this.
Hahn
We do. Okay.
Don
Oh, now this is an adorable pink and white Jordan.
Hahn
Ones. Yep.
Don
Oh, come on, man.
Hahn
Are we good? Yeah. That's quality. Yeah, baby.
Don
That is a gift for a baby girl. And by the way, and her mom, who's a true sneaker head, much more so than me.
Hahn
Yeah, I'm aware.
Don
Is going to love these.
Hahn
Wow.
Don
Alan Hahn.
Hahn
And the best thing about those is that once she's done with them, you keep them. It's not like what a keepsake that is.
Don
I know. It's such a cute keepsake, too. And the fact that hang it from the rear view mirror, the pink and white makes it so perfect for the little girl.
Hahn
There you go.
Don
Alan, this is beautiful. Thank you.
Hahn
Love it. Okay, good.
Don
I love this. You scored. How do you feel about it now?
Hahn
Well. No, no. Again. Now, see how quickly you forgot about the crude packaging? You didn't even notice it anymore.
Don
Now, I find it charming. I love the crude, but I would never use the word crude to describe this. Well, this is great. Did your wife approve of this gift?
Hahn
Yes, of course. Well, I mean, I'm just making sure she's well aware. Let's put it this way. Aware. I don't think we need approval, but awareness. Yes, very much so.
Don
That's nice that you tell yourself that.
Hahn
It is. It is, but. Yeah, no, no. Wear them in good health, obviously, and be excited to see the first time she puts them on.
Don
You will see, my friend. Beautiful.
Hahn
Great.
Don
That's how you start a show.
Hahn
That's how you do it.
Peter Rosenberg
Now, will she have that rule the way I do where I only wore my Jordans if it's, like, gorgeous outside? Like, if there was a hint of rain.
Hahn
Well, I don't think she's gonna be stomping in any putts.
Don
I don't know.
Peter Rosenberg
Was it Cam Newton's kid, like, climbing stairs?
Don
Ten months now, real quick, this size. This size 4C.
Hahn
Yeah. That's what age? It's not the small.
Don
No.
Hahn
Well, I don't know.
Don
Six months, eight months.
Hahn
It's not the smallest size. I tried to get something in, like, the range where, you know in the spring when you know you're going out. Cause I mean, right now you're not putting shoes on her.
Don
No, she doesn't even put shoes on booties. Does anybody know watching on my IG Live 4C. What age that is?
Hahn
Well, take a look at them and tell me if you've seen her feet. I'm sure, yes.
Don
Very many feet.
Hahn
You've probably kissed her feet several times.
Don
I love the feet.
Hahn
Something about the feet.
Peter Rosenberg
The baby Rex Ryan on those feet.
Hahn
Well, probably.
Don
Okay. I'm being told by experts in my ear, these are around 12 month. Okay, so they want to put these in the closet.
Hahn
Stomping around first steps in the J's.
Don
It could be.
Peter Rosenberg
Don't forget, because the lot's gonna happen between now and, you know, age two.
Don
Don't forget what?
Peter Rosenberg
That you put them on the shelf. Then when she finally turns one, she can wear the sneakers. And all of a sudden she's gonna be three. You're gonna be cleaning out the closet and go, oh, my God, we forgot about these.
Don
Now listen, that does happen.
Hahn
That's a great point.
Don
Of course. But it won't. It's not gonna happen with my wife and sneakers.
Hahn
Here's why. Because I'll just go, did she put them on you?
Peter Rosenberg
That's gonna be a big.
Hahn
Exactly.
Don
No, if he was K, it would start at around six months every week.
Peter Rosenberg
So you make sure his shoe sizes are weird. Like, I wasn't even sure. Like, Jalen's feet are smaller than Marco's. She's like a size 13. He's a one. Because now he's moved on to, like, a different stage.
Don
Yeah, it makes no sense. It is.
Peter Rosenberg
It is all over the place.
Don
But, yes, my friend Zach is confirming around one year.
Hahn
Well, that's what we were looking for. I was looking for that. I didn't want to give them too big. You wait too long.
Peter Rosenberg
But still, you're gonna need Alex first remind you. 11 months. A lot's gonna happen in 11 months.
Hahn
Yep. Yeah, I was gonna get him in blue and orange.
Don
No, Thought about it. No.
Hahn
But I. I laid Out. And I said, no, let's go neutral.
Don
These are just cuter, too.
Hahn
The pigs and whites told me that. That the Knicks thing is up for grabs.
Don
She's gonna be a Knicks fan. I'm not. I'm not. I'm not fighting it.
Hahn
We're gonna work on that.
Peter Rosenberg
When she's gonna let her make her own decisions.
Don
Well, she gonna choose the Nets? What is she, an animal?
Peter Rosenberg
She might choose not to be a basketball fan.
Don
That's not possible.
Hahn
I mean, she's a New Yorker. She can't possibly choose.
Don
This isn't North Dakota.
Peter Rosenberg
She might.
Hahn
This is New York.
Don
Of course she's gonna be a basketball fan. She'll be at the Rucker by the.
Hahn
Time she crossing people over, taking ankles.
Don
That's right.
Hahn
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
Come on.
Don
For God's sake.
Hahn
Good stuff. So it's super bowl week, and yet, you know what's funny? Have you ever seen a time where, leading into the super bowl, the NBA is actually dominating the NFL?
Don
That never happens.
Peter Rosenberg
One of the turning points for us as a show, and I think even as a radio station, Peter, you might remember better than me the actual super bowl. That it was where it was the first year we decided we weren't going to go, and we were doing the show on a Friday from fanduel over at the Meadowlands, and Porzingis got traded.
Hahn
Oh, I remember this.
Peter Rosenberg
And all thought was, if we had been wherever the super bowl was that year, talking to Emmett Smith about Pizza Hut, how would we have been able to transition into, you know, one of the biggest trades in Nick history and be able to pivot and do all that on Radio Row, where, you know, Bruce Smith is pitching this and Emmett Smith's pitch.
Hahn
And you got all these for asparagreme.
Peter Rosenberg
Because there was always the general consensus that not much happened during super bowl week, especially once it started going deeper into February. You know, the NBA and the NHL are kind of in their dog days, and you're not close enough to pitchers and catchers or spring training, and what else are you going to talk about? But what I've seen really, since that Porzingis trade is what there. What's not to talk about, Right? I mean, the. The NBA is really heated up their trade deadlines around that time, and there's a lot going on in the NHL. There's a lot going on in baseball. A lot of players still unsigned. I mean, imagine being on Radio Row if Pete Alonso signed today. So I think that it's. Other sports have used this. Two weeks is. Instead of laying Out. Let the NFL have its say. Listen, they'll have their say on Sunday. But you know what? There's other stuff going on, other stuff.
Don
That'S very, very important. I love that this has happened, especially with this super bowl, which I don't care about. The only storyline super bowl wise that I care about is Kendrick Lamar. So I'm very pleased that the NBA has had a kick ass week.
Hahn
It's really been something and it's been, it just keeps growing now the trade deadline's tomorrow and I think, and I said this earlier this week and it's kind of a sad thing, but it feels accurate is the way the things go with the NBA. It almost feels like it's more exciting when you talk trades and free agency than you actually talk games. Like I do feel like this guy, the NFL, you go nuts with the NFL. With baseball, there's always gonna be matchups and things and. But I feel like with basketball people really love the conversation about player movement more than they love the conversation about the game the night before.
Peter Rosenberg
So what is it? Is it that the movement so exciting or there is a. With regular season NBA now, I do not think this is a Nick problem because the Knicks bring it every night and people are always engaged. But I'm just talking about from a league perspective. We were having a conversation during our meeting. You don't want to look at. The league sends 20 teams to the playoffs because the play in is not the playoffs.
Hahn
I hate that. Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
But the warriors are rumored to get in kd. The Mavericks just made the LUCA for ad trade because they wanted to bring a player so they could still make a run this year. Well, the last I checked, The warriors were 10 and Dallas was 11. So teams that are normally in like if this were the NHL, the 10 and 11 seeds are selling right in the NBA. You could be down to 12 saying, all right, I might not be in the playoffs for the play in, but it's my portal but let me get to the playoffs. So I'm going to be a buyer instead of a seller. But what that does do, Alan, unfortunately is devalue the regular season. What turns out to be a must win isn't necessarily a must win because I don't think the Celtics care where they finish. So the top guys are like, yeah, I'd like to win the division. Yeah, I'd like to be the 1 seed, but I'm not going to kill myself to do it. The six and the seven guys are not worried about completely falling all out of it. So There's a little excitement down at like 10 or 11 because you got to get into the play in. But still, it doesn't mean that that game, you know, is the phrase, that schedule game necessarily has a lot of mean.
Hahn
The phrase you used of I'm not going to kill myself to get the one seed that. That's the thing with the NBA is it's almost like I don't want to try. And I told you, that's why we're asked backwards when it comes to sports in North America, because we put way more value on two months than we do six months. So the idea of battling for a one seed and getting the top seed and winning the conference, maybe even again, Rangers, President's trophy. Right?
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Hahn
And it's like, yeah, but who cares if I'm beat up when the playoffs begin? Because that's all that matters. There's that. Now, I'll also say this. As you mentioned, Dallas is 11, Golden State is 10. But you understand that they're. They're all tied. 8th seed, 9th seed, 10th seed, 11th seed, all of them are tied. So they have to put them in numbers, but they're just tied. So, you know, like you're tied for the eighth seed technically.
Don
Right.
Hahn
So you feel like you're very much in play. And by the way, two games back of six, which gets you out of the play in. That's why Adam Silver wanted to do this, because instead of what we saw years ago, you get to this point of the season, everybody's tanking. Now you've got teams saying, I got a shot and if I can get in, as Jimmy Butler in the, in the Heat showed us a couple of years ago, if I can just get in and I can get right, I can go all the way to the first.
Peter Rosenberg
But, but, but unfortunately, when you go up that seven or eight seed, that might in years past feel that's a meaningful game. Hey, if I slip to nine, I don't want to play in the play in. But we saw what Miami did last year. We're good. And I'll give you another example. Last night, in normal circumstances, there was a huge game in the NBA last night. Huge game. Celtics, Cavs. But it wasn't. No, you know, maybe to Peter it was because it.
Don
But it wasn't checked in.
Peter Rosenberg
But that's a battle for first place.
Hahn
Yeah, well, well.
Peter Rosenberg
And that's a sexy matchup. Two of the best teams in conference.
Hahn
Playing each other the four games they were. They went into it five games back.
Don
You think, though, but to Don's point, though, you'd think, oh, this is a. A clash of the two best teams.
Hahn
In the east in Cleveland, missing Mobley, like they were missing somebody. I thought in that game. Now, I was busy with our game last night, which was not one to watch Noble. Not a game to watch.
Don
Mobley played last night.
Hahn
He did play. Okay?
Don
They're big DMPs.
Hahn
Nobody. Nobody. Okay, I didn't know. I thought Cleveland was missing something. But look, all I'll say is, Don, you're right. That should have felt a little more like, hey, if there's ever a game to watch, this is the one to tune into. But that doesn't happen enough in the NBA, and I also think the schedule does that. That's the best thing about the NFL, is that week to week, when you have an epic matchup, you can flex it to a place where we all can watch it. The problem with the NBA is this game was on a Tuesday, right? It should have been. Was it a TNT vehicle? Was that a TNT game? Boston? Yeah, it was. Okay, so you had a national audience, and yet was there any. Any sizzle?
Peter Rosenberg
No, it didn't seem to have any sizzle.
Hahn
I mean, this guy, this guy's a self professed Celtics fan. He could care less because he knows.
Peter Rosenberg
His team's gonna make it. But that's.
Hahn
You took a peek, though.
Don
You took a peek because turned around, they were up.
Hahn
Which for you, defending champs. This team is five games ahead of us. They're peacocking all over the league. They got 40 wins already. But no, I want to go in there and stop.
Don
I know, but it's not. You're right. Basketball doesn't really.
Peter Rosenberg
Celtics won that game. So they.
Hahn
They're with their five, four, four and a half back.
Peter Rosenberg
Five in a loss column.
Hahn
Five in a loss.
Peter Rosenberg
So it's not.
Hahn
It's.
Peter Rosenberg
It's not like it was a battle for first place. And even if it were, if it.
Don
Only were, it's too early.
Peter Rosenberg
But. But the Boston doesn't care if they finish first or second. That's the point, is that you'd like to see some value of, of wanting to win your division, wanting to finish in first place, or just the sexiness of, hey, like, like Richard went over the top yesterday when you left.
Hahn
No, really, there's a Richard.
Peter Rosenberg
Saturday, Winnipeg played Washington. And for hockey, yo yos like me, I enjoyed it because it was the two best teams in the NHL playing each other. All right? Why can't there just be. Hey, these are two of the best teams. Eastern Conference Playing each other. It may not necessarily mean a whole lot in the grand scheme of the standings, but shouldn't you be stoked for that kind of a matchup? Yeah, I mean, that's all I'm saying is that I think we've now put ourselves because it's all championship or bust anyway, which is, you know, so we.
Hahn
Can'T enjoy a season.
Peter Rosenberg
We have devalued the regular seasons by adding teams and all the sports and now football's immune because they only have 17, soon to be 18 games.
Don
But baseball, although they have. I would say that in a slight way as. Even though the NFL, all they do is win.
Hahn
No matter what.
Don
We all agree the first weekend stinks.
Hahn
First three weekends.
Don
No, no, no. It got cut.
Hahn
The September is not September. Not worth watching.
Don
I'm in the playoffs. Sorry.
Hahn
Oh, you mean wild card.
Don
Wild card. We can stinks every year we get.
Hahn
A lot of games, but we don't get a lot of action.
Peter Rosenberg
But winter getting home is always a big deal. Like so that's what you have. So yeah, it might not be sexy, but the winner advances, the loser goes home. There's always.
Hahn
That's.
Peter Rosenberg
That's like a game seven. Sevens are always exciting.
Hahn
Yeah, that's fine.
Peter Rosenberg
That's what football gives you, a Game seven every week of the playoffs. But we have a generation of fans that have just kind of tuned out to the regular season if they know their team's going to make it. Now the Rangers don't have that luxury in the NHL. So the games are important because they're not. They're not guaranteed to make it.
Hahn
No.
Peter Rosenberg
And with the Knicks, they bring it hard and every night. The Knicks are such die hard fans. But still there's going to. I still feel with the Knicks, just get me to the playoffs already. What more do they have to play?
Hahn
There's an anxiety that's building within the fan base right now with exactly what you're saying, just get me there now. Like they're. Because it's gone so well and they've been relatively healthy. It's like, just get me there. I don't want anything more to happen.
Peter Rosenberg
So when you know you're going to the playoffs, what the regular season now becomes, it's like a glorified series of all star games where I can't believe that guy got hurt in a meaningless game. Well, it wasn't a meaningless. It was a regular season. Yeah, but it's meaningless.
Hahn
It's so true.
Peter Rosenberg
It's when Richter blew out his knee in the All Star game. It's like, what is he playing? He shouldn't be playing in that game. Well, now it's like the regular season, why we're going to the playoffs. Why is he killing himself in February and now he tore his Achilles, now he can't play in the postseason. What's wrong with you people?
Hahn
Great point.
Peter Rosenberg
And that's what the. And every time they keep adding damn teams, you're, you think you're adding excitement. What you're doing is you're devaluing the regular season. They've done in baseball. Now, like baseball was the one sport when, listen, it's ridiculous to only have four out of out of 30 teams make it like they did back in the day. Or there were 28 teams, 26 teams, whatever. But you start adding all these wild card teams. It's like now, now that Yankee Red Sox series that used to be like the end all be all in June because you couldn't afford not to win the division. Now it's like we got plenty of games left and even if we don't win the division, we're still in, you know, and, and then you have like, like situations where in the NFL there's only one buy. I'm not getting it anyway, so I'm not starting my quarterback because I'm going to be, I'm not going to be able to get that by anyway. So it. But football is okay because it's only a very few games. But the other three sports, they think they're doing a service by adding all these playoff teams to give people hope. But you, I'm sorry, you're devaluing the regular season.
Hahn
It's, it's. And you know, it's funny. Is it ironic? It might be ironic. The idea of adding wild card or play in is to not devalue is to put value back into it. Because like I said, some teams, when you get to that point where, you know, we're probably too far out of the eighth seed that used to be in the NBA, you started going the other way and they had too many teams tanking. Now if you have 2/3 of the league still engaged, then you don't have teams saying, I'm going to blow it up and tank. And so that's, that's, that's a different, that's a different feeling. But you're, but you're not wrong though, when it comes to the theory of the value of the season. What I'm saying is, is that I think people with the NBA are more engaged in drama. Than they are the game itself. Drama. They love the idea of like what we just did. What we did this morning on get up to Me was exactly why the NBA is still popular. Despite the fact that some people say I'm not watching it or the ratings are saying there's less people watching because we love the chess pieces moving as much as people can't stand it. Oh, I don't know who's on anybody's team anymore. They're moving from here and there. But every time there's a rumor you get, you love it because it's all the possibilities of these super teams and who can play, who's going to join who. Now the fact that Doncic got traded, everybody is just like they're shocked by it. But now it opened up this window of what other amazing things can happen before tomorrow at 3:00. And one of the names that came up and I've got a first thing I'm going to do, I forget her name of the caller. But earlier in the week a caller called up and asked about Kevin Durant and said what about KD going to the Thunder going back to his old team. And I. Cause at that point I had not heard anything about kd. I know there were some ancillary reports like on the periphery. And I was like, you know, like I'm not buying that. Cuz sometimes some of these aggregate accounts like to just throw things out there to get you to click. And that caller was right. That there is. Where there's smoke, there's fire. When it comes to Kevin Durant, Wendy this morning. He's going to join us at 4:00 today. Wendy's obviously always great on this stuff, but he talked this morning about the. Apparently like Durant could. Not necessarily saying will happen. He could be on the move and one of the teams that everybody's wondering is would he go back to the Golden State warriors and join backup with Steph Curry and see if they could put the band back together and try to get one more ring. That's exciting. Like, that's a great story.
Don
That's a great. That's the story.
Hahn
You're dreaming, Doncious. That's drama. Now he and LeBron. Oh my God. Well, wait a minute. AD is now in Dallas with Kyrie. It's Kyrie's team now. There's drama there. Now you got Jimmy Butler. Where he gonna go? Wait a minute. Now you tell me. Kevin Durant might go back with Steph Curry. This is what the NBA is made for. However, we got to pop the balloon why Shams was on NBA Taylor, which is literally on the air right now.
Don
Sham Charani.
Hahn
Yes. Shawn Charani.
Don
I know he is.
Hahn
And he pretty much said the KD to the Golden State thing is not going to happen.
Brian Windhorst
The warriors have been seriously pursuing Kevin Durant over the last week. But sources tell me that Durant has no desire in a reunion with the Warriors. He does not want to go back to the warriors, where he won two championships, won two Finals MVPs. The Sun's position in all of this has been to continue to build around Kevin Durant and Devin Booker. But due to their record, teams have been very aggressive calling the Sun Suns. It's unclear where these talks go between now and tomorrow's deadline, but one thing is clear around the league right now, and that's Kevin Durant does not want to go back to the warriors in any trade. So for the warriors, do they continue this pursuit of Kevin Durant? Do they move on to a guy like Jimmy Butler, who we've been discussing over the last couple of months? Is Chicago's Nikola Vucevic a target as well? We'll know in the next 24 hours.
Hahn
Okay, so, and now. Now there's a couple of things to this. Number one, KD might be saying this because he wants an extension with the trade. Right. And does Golden State want to do that or they want to, you know, just see how it goes? The other one is, is that Phoenix Mattis be the owner of the Suns if he's going to trade Kevin Durant to Golden State? He's Michigan State guy, by the way. So that would mean Draymond Green would be the guy he would want. Like they have a relationship. And if you're going to still try to be relevant, you need to add some defense and toughness to your team, and you have the ability to do that and still get Jimmy Butler and you have Devin Booker. Yeah. Draymond Green makes sense on every level. So do the warriors really want to do that? Probably not. So that's why it's still something to watch. But if he ends up in Miami, think about that for a minute. If they end up going, all right, well, Bradley Beal's not helping us. He's not going to waive his no trade. What. What about the scenario of the Phoenix Suns to get Jimmy Butler trading Kevin Durant to Miami and now Kevin Durant is back in the Eastern Conference? Does that. Does that have the same kind of sizzle at all? Does that mean anything? It still is Miami, and it's the East.
Don
Kevin Durant going anywhere is interesting, but.
Hahn
Not as interesting as Golden State.
Don
No. And I wonder why he'd pooh, pooh that again.
Hahn
He pays way too much attention to social media and what people would say.
Don
So the fact that he's ring chasing but like this is different. See, it's funny. This is like a ring chase he could do. That's not a ring chase. He would now show up and truly be the reason they can't. This, this Golden State team isn't competing for a championship right now. You add Kevin Durant.
Hahn
They can, they possibly could.
Don
So that makes, that's what makes it different.
Hahn

Be complicated, and that's why we have live experts to help you with any questions. They can hold your hand through the process, beginning to end, metaphorically, of course. I mean, they can't actually hold your hand in person. I suppose you could hold your computer mouse while you chat with the expert about capital gains or whatever, which is sort of like holding hands. Sorry. Point is, our tax experts can make filing easier. Tax Act. Let's get them over with.
Alan Hahn
Thanks for listening to the Don Hahn and Rosenberg podcast.
Don
I didn't listen to anything you just said.
Alan Hahn
Catch the show on demand whenever you want. Just subscribe to us wherever you get your podcasts.
Don
Closing my dreams.
Hahn
She's always there. This is. This is a little taste of the wow of Benipash. I wish people could see. It's unfortunate that we're no longer simulcast. Yeah, I wish People could see the seriousness of your face when you sing these lyrics. And you are not like you turn your head. It's like the perfect way to do it. You do a little pose and you glare at Peter as if you're talking to him through the lyrics.
Peter Rosenberg
Is amazing. And that's. That's off the album. The Number of the beast, which was 1982. That's right in wheel.
Hahn
See, that's one I don't know. I mean, I know.
Peter Rosenberg
What do you know about that little bit? No, you don't know Maiden if you don't know Number of the Beast. That's their album.
Don
That's the album.
Peter Rosenberg
That's the album.
Hahn
Hang on a second.
Peter Rosenberg
That's the album.
Hahn
Two minutes to midnight.
Peter Rosenberg
Two minutes? Yeah, that's after. That's Power Slave, right?
Hahn
I think Power Slave's my wheelhouse. Because that was before.
Peter Rosenberg
Okay, well, no, because we're. Wait, you're 53, right? So we're only three years difference.
Don
That's a big difference.
Hahn
It's too off. My Slave. That I love. What's the other one? There's two minutes a minute I love. Oh, no. Ace is high.
Peter Rosenberg
Ace is high.
Hahn
Oh, my God. That's like one of my favorite songs.
Peter Rosenberg
But the first is high.
Hahn
Next time.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, that was the first concert I went to. 1985. Power Slave Tour. Radio City Music Hall. Iron Maiden, City Music.
Hahn
Oh, my God.
Peter Rosenberg
I've told Peter this story.
Don
Moment in time.
Peter Rosenberg
I was Radio City sophomore in high school. We're all going. We all get the tickets. Maiden, Queens, Reich, and it's Radio City Music Hall. A bunch of us want to go. And one of my guys, one of the guys I went to school with, Darby Leduc. I'll never forget that.
Hahn
Darby. Good old Darb's.
Peter Rosenberg
You love Darby because we're like, let's get a limo, right? So we all chip in to get a limo. So we all cool. These guys, Hawthorne, we're gonna roll up.
Hahn
Kids, understand when he says limo, we're not. Today's limo is not the same. He's talking about a stretch Cadillac.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, yeah, no, big, big slide limo right up to Radio City. It's gonna spit out, you know, four drunken 16 year olds going to see Iron Maiden in Queens, right at Radio City.
Hahn
And it was all Darby's like, I.
Peter Rosenberg
Got it all taken care of, Darby. So we met at the Dairy Queen.
Don
Oh, what a day, what a day.
Peter Rosenberg
Where I'd go and throw, you know, spend a hundred bucks on a weekend on the Zookeeper, the video game and that's where we had that at the. That was our Dairy Queen.
Don
Had the.
Hahn
Back in the day. Back in the day, you put your quarter and that meant you were next.
Peter Rosenberg
That was our art, was the Dairy Queen, which is now at Dunkin Donuts.
Hahn
That's sad.
Don
And you think you know something.
Hahn
Ready. Ready for this?
Peter Rosenberg
We gave Darby the money and.
Hahn
Oh no.
Don
For the limo.
Hahn
Yeah.
Don
And what happened?
Peter Rosenberg
A van pulled up.
Hahn
Oh, that's not a limo.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh yeah, that's not a limo.
Hahn
Windows.
Don
I told you.
Hahn
Windows fan.
Peter Rosenberg
No, we wanted the limo. We didn't need or buy. My dad could have drove me. The whole idea is to pull up in the limo.
Don
Right.
Peter Rosenberg
It wasn't the ride.
Hahn
Yeah, that's. That's.
Peter Rosenberg
We could have taken the bus.
Hahn
There's no rock star about pulling up in the windowless van.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, and then Jimmy Stark, who was with me, they. They confiscated his. His studded bracelet. Oh, oh, remember those?
Hahn
I remember those. Yeah. This is.
Peter Rosenberg
This is parachute pants.
Hahn
Yep.
Peter Rosenberg
This is. Right. The 19. 1985. This is like February, March 85.
Hahn
Oh, yeah, right. This is full mullet.
Don
I just looked at my screen here.
Hahn
Okay, Don, have you.
Don
Do you know anything about this? I just saw a clip here that says Carlin rants on Alan not joining his show. Do you know about that?
Hahn
Oh, no. Did he really?
Don
Do you know about this, Alan?
Hahn
It's not on my screen.
Peter Rosenberg
This could be an ENN thing, hence.
Hahn
Why it's on the end screen.
Don
I just want to say.
Hahn
But I know what this is.
Don
I just want to warn you now.
Hahn
Embarrassed.
Don
I just want to warn you. I've never seen this before. The clip is 2 minutes and 13 seconds.
Peter Rosenberg
Wait a minute.
Don
You don't see clips that long.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, listen to just so you know, a very special enn featuring Chris Carlin coming up at 4:30.
Don
Please get all my Carlin drops on the page as well.
Peter Rosenberg
That long?
Don
Well, apparently it's something.
Hahn
It must be that good.
Peter Rosenberg
So there was no place to, you realize.
Hahn
But you understand the rant is three times, four times longer than the conversation we had. Well, look, all I'm saying is every time that we cut something, everyone says context is taken out. Yeah. So this is the full context of the entire thing.
Don
I want the whole thing just like when I just like. I like to play the whole audio of when Carlin nearly choked to death doing a broadcast. I also want full context of this.
Peter Rosenberg
That was so bad what Peter did to him.
Don
What do you mean?
Hahn
I don't think I've ever heard that one.
Don
What do you mean you never heard that?
Hahn
No, I don't think I did. He did. He's.
Peter Rosenberg
He's doing the biggest regular season college football game of the year.
Don
You have to have heard this.
Peter Rosenberg
And he. And he got the caller for ESPN Radio and he was throwing the break, which everybody tunes out anyway, and he basically choked on his tongue or something. Check it out. This is college football.
Don
Excuse me.
Peter Rosenberg
This is college football.
Don
The. Oh, my God. At the end.
Peter Rosenberg
But it wasn't like he choked on a touchdown. He was just throwing the break.
Hahn
Wait a minute. How about the producer not just going to break, leaving the mic open as he's dying on the air? Are you kidding?
Don
You never heard that before?
Hahn
Why wouldn't you just go to break?
Don
I love them.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, my God.
Hahn
He's just. He's keeled over and the producer's like waiting for it. Well, you got to say. You got to say ESPN radio. I can't send it to Brick when I'm saying ESPN Radio.
Peter Rosenberg
The affiliates aren't going to know what's going on. The affiliates thought that they just lost their play by play and.
Don
And they thought the affiliates are calling.
Peter Rosenberg
A program director, finding what they're going to put on their air.
Hahn
A man died on the air.
Don
Here it is.
Peter Rosenberg
This is college football.
Hahn
No. Oh, God. Oh, more Chris.
Peter Rosenberg
This is college football radio. Oh, my God.
Don
It's one of my favorite pieces of audio.
Hahn
I gotta ask Pizza cone about this.
Don
But this is how great Carlin is. The only reason I know it exists is because he put the whole video on his TikTok post.
Hahn
That doesn't shock me at all.
Don
So good.
Hahn
He's so. One of his skills is self deprecation. He's really good at that. One of the best, you know, what we've got going on here, I believe, is today. Tomorrow we have one more day of this. The final week though of Superbox Bonanza 6. Your last chance to get a box for the big game. Listen daily from 6am to 7pm as you always do, of course, through tomorrow. This year's big game payouts are $250 in the first and third quarters, 500 at halftime, and a final score payout of $1,000. All brought to you by Tullamore Du Irish Whiskey Slowman security. Security Dodge Shop 24 7@securitydodge.com during their President's Day sales event.
Don
You bet your ace.
Hahn
Yep. For full contest details, go to superboxbonanza.com. it's going to be that kind of show. I could just feel it.
Peter Rosenberg
That Was fantastic.
Don
At any moment it's useful, but it was Florida.
Peter Rosenberg
Georgia was a big deal.
Hahn
That is a big deal. And the poor man just tripped. You know, there's a gif of that woman carrying like food and she's tripping and then the food just falls all over the place. Like that's what that.
Don
It's truly one of the most remarkable things we've ever.
Hahn
Let's get a couple of calls in here, shall we? Brian Windhorst at 4:00. Getting into some NBA as well. With you. JJ in North Carolina, you were first. You start us off.
JJ
I gotta tell you, Alan, if you have time, you gotta watch the video of Carlin almost falling. It makes it a hundred times better. I think Peter would agree.
Don
Oh, it's, it's.
Hahn
I might, I might share it. This rant is bad. If it's a bad rant about me.
Don
Yeah, we're gonna see how it goes.
JJ
The poor color guy is just. It's just like, oh, there was a.
Hahn
There was an analyst next to him just saying nothing. Oh, this is. This gets even better.
JJ
I'm pretty sure.
Don
Yeah, it's unfortunate.
JJ
Peter, I wanted to say before I get to the NBA, I just. I wanted to congratulate you on the baby, obviously, and congratulate you on the. That pivot interview.
Hahn
Oh, thank you, thank you.
JJ
A few little pivot a few weeks ago. I mean, nice.
Hahn
Thank you.
JJ
With. With Ryan Clark.
Hahn
Yeah, yeah. Oh, you sat down with rc.
Don
That's right.
Hahn
To get a brooch.
Don
He did. I did not get a PR bro.
JJ
I just wanted to say because Peter does it. Does it so well. A great job with broadcasting in the way that he takes. He appreciates mental health and he appreciates like, you know, the small things about life and actually, you know, like explores and is not afraid to bring it up. So I just want to say that means a lot to me coming from, you know, someone in your spot.
Don
I appreciate it. Jj. I tried to get personal in that episode. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I hope it resonated.
JJ
Yeah, it was great for the NBA. I'm a die hard Grizzlies fan. Kind of weird growing up in New York.
Don
Just love being a Grizzlies fan. Is kind of weird. Full stop. Continue.
JJ
I know, sorry, it's a weird story, but I just wanted to say the state of the NBA is so great. Alan, you put it in a good context before where it's like all these hypothetical scenarios is really what drives the conversation. What. Remember when LeBron signed with the Heat, you know what big three. Is he going to go against the Celtics? Big three back then can he. Can he form up against the Spurs? Big three?
Hahn
It's like, right. It's like.
JJ
You put it perfectly. It's like. It's like kind of like a. I call it like a hypothetical, like, reality show. Like, where's the. Where's the drama gonna go next? You know, what team, what story? Because all the. A lot of the great players have, like, good personalities, you know, charismatic, you know, and it's. It's weird to, like, build up this drama. So I think all these trades, especially Kevin Durant, who's kind of like on the weirder, you know, doesn't have much leadership, is kind of like a sensitive guy.
Hahn
Jj.
JJ
So it'll be.
Hahn
But jj. What? What? What? What? He was so nice to you.
Don
It wasn't me.
Hahn
Oh, that. Oh, that was Anthony.
Peter Rosenberg
No, it was time. I mean, what are we gonna do?
Hahn
Wow. I thought that was you that did that.
Peter Rosenberg
Listen, jj, North Carolina, this is your life. We're gonna have his, you know, his fifth grade teacher on.
Don
And then I. And then I remember when Walton went to the Celtics.
Hahn
I think listeners are starting to get a feel for what this is going to be about. Like. Like, it's a very aggressive show. Well, very. I'm all. I'm here for it, by the way.
Don
I love.
Hahn
Very aggressive.
Don
I love jj, but I'm not going to push back on him getting the song because he. Once you start circling around like, you. And this goes for everybody. We love guys. There are a lot of callers we love, and we take your calls and we appreciate you. Like, we legitimately like you and care for you. But in. There's a phrase in wrestling that's really appropriate, right? Getting your ish in. The idea of, like, I'm having a match, I need to get my ish in. Like, I need to get all of my moves in.
Hahn
Yeah, that's.
Don
That's what a bad wrestler does.
Hahn
It's the FGAs. I gotta get my shots up.
Don
Exactly. Like, a good wrestler doesn't worry about getting their issue. They just want to tell the story, whatever the story requires. If you're a caller, make a good point. Don't worry about the amount of seconds you're taking on the radio. Just hit it and quit it. But there was a. There was some good stuff in there. But I understand why Anthony eventually went to the music.
Hahn
Fair enough. All I was going to say is that we are here for the drama. That is what the NBA has been all about. And unfortunately it means that we are really not interested in bum teams. And the league has more bum teams than they do good teams. That's just the way it is.
Peter Rosenberg
And in what. And I've seen this in all sports and I've investigated and I've talked to leagues about it. It was definitely an NHL problem when I was working there is. We have our fans, but they're not necessarily watching the games. They love the teams.
Hahn
Crazy, isn't it?
Peter Rosenberg
And they love the stories, but there's just so many other ways to consume it. The attention span of the younger generation isn't to sit there for two and a half hours and watch a full game. They're into it, they know it, they read about it, they consume everything. But they're not going to sit there and watch two and a half hours of basketball or hockey or baseball. Football is different because it's once a week and football is completely exempt from the conversation. But that's the other sports. That's why Adam Silver's open to the idea of having a 40 minute game. Cause anything to put it in that two hour window to make it easier to consume because people aren't just sitting there watching. We all grew up watching the games. I couldn't get enough of it because that was the only place I could get the information.
Don
Oh, it's so much worse now more than ever because of the way you can consume the content online. You watch your highlights on Instagram, you read your articles on the athletics. You don't need to watch the games every night. In fact, you're just tweeting and talking about the games.
Hahn
If you have teenage kids, that's the example, it's right in front of you. They don't even watch the game. They just watch whatever happens on their phone.
Alan Hahn
Thanks for listening to the Don Hahn and Rosenberg podcast.
Don
I didn't listen to anything you just said.
Alan Hahn
Catch the show on demand whenever you want. Just subscribe to us wherever you get your podcasts.
Hahn
Yeah, Chris Carlin, let me clear my throat. So I guess I can't get Aces hot. I mean, I put in a request already. What kind of DJ is this?
Don
You know, a good DJ doesn't just take requests. Oh yeah, they get one.
Hahn
Well, some DJs, some drunk girl comes.
Don
With the club out of here, get low. Okay, well, I'm gonna get a jukebox.
Hahn
You know. You know J Live, right?
Don
Yeah, of course.
Hahn
Love him. Yeah.
Don
Oh, he's a huge Knicks fan too.
Hahn
Yeah, he is. But his whole thing about, you know, real DJs don't take requests.
Don
Yeah, that's the thing.
Hahn
Yeah, but I just. I asked for one song.
Don
But you have to admit, the Let Me Clear My throat was good.
Hahn
It fit the moment. I understand now we need to add.
Don
This to it instead of. Oh, my God. Now you want to get creative.
Hahn
You want to get it. You want to do a mix.
Don
You know. You know how. You know how. Let me tell my throat. You know the.
Peter Rosenberg
Whoa. If you want that.
Don
I don't know if you could do that, though. That might be tough.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, just. Find the beginning of Sweet Leaf by Black Sad Sabbath. Find the beginning of Sweet Leaf.
Don
Why, is there coughing or something?
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, Matt. Find that sweet leaf. Black Sabbath, by the way. Announcement. Black Sabbath, last show ever. Original four members. Bill Ward's coming back, despite the fact that he actually, literally has no back. Ozzy lead singer Tony Iommi Geezler Butler last Show, Birmingham, England, July 5.
Hahn
You gotta be there.
Don
Show us something.
Hahn
You gotta be Black. Shabby.
Peter Rosenberg
Show us something. Metallica Slayer.
Don
What?
Peter Rosenberg
Anthrax.
Hahn
Yeah. You have to wait. Are you. You have. I got.
Peter Rosenberg
I. I don't know how. The middle of the summer. I can fly.
Hahn
No, no, you're going.
Peter Rosenberg
I gotta go.
Don
What do you mean, you don't.
Hahn
How are you not going to this?
Don
You gotta go. And by the way, the beach. The. The beach bash of the week before.
Hahn
Yeah, you're good.
Don
You're Gucci, by the way. Take Marco. You and Marco on a road. What a moment that would be a.
Hahn
Moment for the ages. He'd never forget that.
Don
And that way, if you take one of the kids, Nancy can survive without you. She just has one to deal with fair.
Peter Rosenberg
And he's got this one to Jaylen, the easy one.
Don
You got, by the way. You got to do it. You can't. This doesn't happen again.
Hahn
I'm thinking you need to be booking flights now.
Don
And by the way, you get there the day before, you're still. You still do the show with us. You could be right on the air.
Hahn
Well, we all know he can't take a day off. God forbid that happens.
Don
These words got to get out somehow. Otherwise Marco's gonna hear about the All Star break. You know who's gonna win the Home Run Derby that week?
Peter Rosenberg
I'll be doing shows with them on the side.
Hahn
I'm dead serious. I want you to do this.
Don
What stadium is it? Is it like the soccer stadium?
Peter Rosenberg
I don't. I don't know.
Don
Where.
Peter Rosenberg
No, it's a park. Oh, I think it's an outside.
Hahn
Oh, so it's just like there's gonna be a hundred thousand people at this thing. This Monsters of Rock. What are we talking about here?
Don
I'm looking this up.
Hahn
Yeah, I like this. No, no, we have to get you there. Yeah, you guys look it up. I'm gonna say It's Superbox Bonanza 6. And each qualifier will take home an ESG prize bag and have a chance at one of 10 Superbox prizes. Pick a number, fellas. Caller number 7. Seven right now at 888-987-Espn 8 at 8, 9 8, 7, ESPN to select the box for the big game with a chance to win $250 in the first and third quarters, 500 for halftime and a final score payout of $1,000. All brought to you by Tulla Mordue Irish Whiskey Sloman. Security. Security. Dodge Shop24.7@securitydodge.com during their President's Day sales. How about this?
Don
How about this? Hold on, hold on.
Hahn
We have a ticket package.
Don
Also on the line of Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Alice in Change. Tom Morello serving as the musical director for the night. Additional performances by Billy Corgan.
Hahn
Oh.
Don
Fred Durst. Oh, it goes. It goes on and on. Other people appearing. Sammy Hagar. But the big names in bold print, man. Don, this is your show.
Hahn
Who cares?
Peter Rosenberg
Villa Park.
Hahn
Who cares? You're going.
Don
You got to go. That's it.
Hahn
Do you want, like, When's your birthday?
Peter Rosenberg
February 13th.
Don
It's coming all week.
Hahn
What do you say? Should we just get the tickets and.
Don
He has to go, and then he has to go.
Hahn
He has to go, but then he.
Don
Has to buy airfare, too, so.
Hahn
Well, that's on him. I'm not doing that.
Don
No hesitation.
Peter Rosenberg
I think I can afford a flight.
Don
No, I think you can.
Hahn
You can handle that.
Don
Damn right you can. Go business class like a gentleman. Put Marco back in coach, though. He's a kid.
Hahn
How much. How much are the tickets?
Don
I haven't.
Hahn
Because if it's a park, it's got to just be like. Like first come, first serve. Like, you just.
Peter Rosenberg
This was just announced. They might even have, like, any sales.
Don
Information, you know, I'm gonna find out everything, and it's for charity. You're doing something good.
Hahn
Oh, wow, look at you.
Peter Rosenberg
How far is that from London? I guess you just fly to London, right?
Don
I don't know how far Birmingham is from London, but, yes, you'd be flying to London.
Peter Rosenberg
Birmingham. That's probably how they pronounce it. Going to Birmingham.
Don
We're gonna get you Tickets.
Hahn
Work on that. I'm gonna get some mall curls in here, shall we?
Peter Rosenberg
I'll call Pete. Do you think sales has anything?
Hahn
Oh, absolutely.
Don
You got the suite. You want to go on the get.
Hahn
I'm sure he take care of you, Chris and Maryland. What's up, Chris?
Chris
Hey, what's up, guys? How are you doing?
Hahn
Good. Good.
Chris
Hey, I was calling because I want to talk to Peter about his super bowl allegiance, on who he's gonna root for.
Don
Oh, yeah. Good update.
Chris
Yeah. Because. Because originally you, you tweeted, fly, Eagles, fly.
Don
Yeah, I, I regret the bridge too far if you.
Hahn
We made him delete that.
Don
I, I, I, I, I, I know.
Chris
I understand why, but I am a lifelong Eagles fan, and I am a little bit younger than you, Peter, but I can vividly remember rooting for the Giants against the Patriots the second time that they played.
Peter Rosenberg
Okay, and how old are you?
Chris
I hated the Patriots. I'm 42.
Peter Rosenberg
I don't think you could do that.
Chris
I hated the Patriots so much.
Don
Okay, so you decided rooted for the team. Yeah.
Chris
Right. So, like, I feel like I grew up outside New York surrounded by Giants fans as an Eagle fan, and they were good most of my childhood, and Eagles stunk and sort of were the Redskins, so were the Cowboys. And the Eagles were the team that never got super bowl, ever.
Don
And I loved it.
Chris
And we have a. And Right.
Hahn
I know.
Chris
And then there are a lot of jerk fans that, that, that, that are on videos and cameras and are jerks to people, and they're Eagle fans. And I just wanted you to not judge all of us by those people. But I think you can still be a great commanders fan and root for the Eagles because I think your first instinct was the right instinct. And this team.
Hahn
Cap. This team is Cap. Chris. Cap. You can't be a good. You can't be a good commanders fan and root for a division rival. It's Cap.
Don
No, I don't.
Hahn
That's your team. You want him rooting for your team. Chris, just be honest. You're from Maryland and you want him rooting for your team. That's what you want here.
Chris
I do.
JJ
And I love.
Hahn
I see you doing.
Chris
And I want. Yeah. And I want to remember because he's hitting aces right now and everything. He's got a new baby.
Hahn
He wants a little bit of your magic right now.
Don
You see what the message is? You don't even know. Behind the scenes, other things are turning up. Rosenberg, it's all working right now, and I know you want me there, and I love you. For it. I love you being a Rosebud. We appreciate you over here, but I can't. I can't. The last couple of weeks, I've been thinking about it. I hate you guys too much. I just. And then, you know, we talked to Darlington the other day. He told us the guys are actually pretty likable on the Chiefs.
Hahn
Yeah, Gotta like. Yeah, I like Kelsey. He's good guy, regular guy, down to earth.
Don
That's what they say, you know, just.
Hahn

Podcast Summary: Don, Hahn & Rosenberg – Hour 1: Don's Iron Maiden Story
Episode Overview In the inaugural episode of Don, Hahn & Rosenberg, released on February 5, 2025, hosts Don La Greca, Alan Hahn, and Peter Rosenberg delve into a mix of nostalgic anecdotes, vibrant sports discussions, and engaging listener interactions. The episode prominently features Peter Rosenberg's memorable experience attending an Iron Maiden concert, seamlessly intertwined with their insightful commentary on the evolving landscape of major sports leagues, particularly the NBA during Super Bowl week.
A Memorable High School Concert Peter Rosenberg opens the episode by recounting a transformative moment from his high school days—the first concert he ever attended. Excited alongside his friend Darby Leduc, Peter describes their anticipation for the Iron Maiden show at Radio City Music Hall in 1985.
The Limo Mishap Despite pooling resources to rent a limousine for the journey, the plan takes an unexpected turn when a van arrives instead. The disappointment is palpable as Peter humorously recounts, “It’s gonna spit out, you know, four drunken 16-year-olds going to see Iron Maiden in Queens, right at Radio City” ([30:03]).
Iconic Memories The hosts fondly reminisce about their youthful adventures, highlighting the camaraderie and the quintessential 80s concert vibe. Don adds, “It’s truly one of the most remarkable things we've ever,” emphasizing the lasting impact of such experiences ([35:11]).
Unexpected NBA Spotlight Alan Hahn initiates a discussion on the surprising prominence of NBA activities during Super Bowl week, noting, “It feels accurate is the way the things go with the NBA. It almost feels like it's more exciting when you talk trades and free agency than they actually talk games” ([08:55]).
Trade Deadlines and Regular Season Value The conversation delves into how NBA trade deadlines inject excitement into the league, often overshadowing NFL events. Peter Rosenberg articulates his perspective on the diminishing value of regular-season games due to expanded playoff berths, stating, “What you're doing is you're devaluing the regular season” ([15:21]).
Kevin Durant Trade Speculations A significant portion of the discussion centers around the swirling rumors of Kevin Durant potentially rejoining the Golden State Warriors. Hahn speculates on Durant’s motives, “He pays way too much attention to social media and what people would say” ([23:36]), while Don counters, “He would now show up and truly be the reason they can't” ([23:36]).
Expert Insights from Brian Windhorst Towards the episode's latter segment, Don and Hahn tease an upcoming appearance by NBA reporter Brian Windhorst to shed light on trade developments, particularly focusing on Kevin Durant’s trade status and its implications for the NBA landscape ([35:11]).
Caller Stories and Engagement The trio engages with listeners, addressing calls that range from personal congratulations to heated sports debates. JJ from North Carolina shares appreciation for the show’s authenticity, saying, “Peter does it so well. A great job with broadcasting in the way that he takes. He appreciates mental health” ([35:54]).
Super Bowl Allegiances Chris from Maryland sparks a discussion about team loyalties, particularly focusing on the Philadelphia Eagles. He urges Don not to judge Eagle fans by their more abrasive counterparts, stating, “I just wanted you to not judge all of us by those people” ([46:11]).
Humorous Banter and Inside Jokes The hosts maintain a lighthearted atmosphere with playful exchanges. For instance, Hahn humorously refers to DJ requests, “Hold on, hold on,” and Peter reminds Don about the legendary Iron Maiden album, adding layers of nostalgia and camaraderie to the conversation ([41:10]).
Devaluing the Regular Season Peter Rosenberg critically examines the trend of expanding playoff teams across various sports, arguing that it diminishes the importance of regular-season performance. He asserts, “But people can't stand it. Oh, I don't know who's on anybody's team anymore” ([15:29]).
Changing Fan Engagement The hosts discuss how younger generations consume sports differently, favoring highlights and social media over traditional game-watching. Hahn observes, “If you have teenage kids, that's the example, it's right in front of you. They don't even watch the game. They just watch whatever happens on their phone” ([40:38]).
League Strategies and Future Implications Alan Hahn touches on league officials’ efforts to maintain engagement, mentioning Adam Silver’s openness to modifying game lengths to suit contemporary viewing habits. This segment underscores the tension between preserving traditional sports structures and adapting to modern consumer behaviors ([39:43]).
Future Show Promos and Events As the episode nears its end, the hosts promote upcoming live shows and special broadcasts, encouraging listeners to participate and interact. Don announces a live event at the Tap Room in Rockville Center, highlighting it as a “special Countdown to Kickoff broadcast” ([24:56]).
Humorous Plans and Concert Promises In a light-hearted finale, the hosts joke about booking Peter for future events, including hypothetical concerts and appearances, blending humor with genuine camaraderie. Peter considers attending a Metallica Slayer concert, leading to a playful exchange about travel and logistics ([44:08]).
Final Remarks and Teasers The episode concludes with brief mentions of ongoing promotions and the hosts' signature banter, leaving listeners anticipating the next episode’s blend of sports insight and personal storytelling ([49:11]).
