App 301 of the big city. Don Hahn and Rosenberg hanging out with you till 6:30. I'm not happy. I'm not happy at all. Last night sucked. If you're a Met fan, awful. You're a Yankee fan. Disgusting. If you're a hockey fan, it's like, come on, man. Game 6 and Edmonton mails it in. Like, I was really left completely empty. I was psyched. Oh, the Yankees. I was going to say it on the air. And I was driving home listening to the bottom of the first inning, hoping the Yankees didn't score for this reason. Because I never got to say on the air, book it. Yankees are scoring in the first inning.
Peter Rosenberg
Book it.
Don Hahn
And I'm like, I didn't say it. And Bellinger doubles and stands up and I'm like, this SOB Is going to get a single. The Yankees are going to score it. I.
Alan Hahn
Here we go.
Don Hahn
Say it. But it didn't matter because guess what? Guess what the first inning Peter had in common with every other inning in the game.
Alan Hahn
What's that?
Don Hahn
Yankees didn't score. Oh, you know what yesterday had in common with the day before and the day before that? Yankees didn't score. And my guy right here, Alan Hahn, to my right. Yeah, was in a. In a lather being concerned. Don't worry, Allen. It's all going to be okay. And since then, two more shutouts. So, Allen, you were right.
Alan Hahn
No, Alan, it's all silly. Nothing to worry about, buddy. Just a couple of weird games. Nothing to see here.
Peter Rosenberg
It's just baseball. Susan, this just happened. I told you, it's.
Don Hahn
That looks like blank that. You know why? Because if you want to listen to a show where it's. Oh, it's okay. It's only June. It's baseball, Susan. Then you know what, Listen, in October.
Peter Rosenberg
Thank you.
Don Hahn
We dissect every day. Is it the end of the world? No. Does it stink? Absolutely. The Mets lost a game. All right, it's one game. Their first four game losing streak. But I don't know if I got a catcher. They got a 41 lead in the 8th inning. They blow it like against that team. Luckily the Phillies lost to the Marlins, so they didn't lose any ground. But they missed an opportunity to pick up another game. So is it the end of the world? No. But can you be red hot about it?
Peter Rosenberg
Yes.
Don Hahn
Yes you can. Yes you can. So where do you want to begin? On the fact that we got a catcher that can't hit, can't throw, can't think, and. Or do we have a baseball team in the New York Yankees that are laden with offensive talent and literally can't score? The numbers are amazing. The last, they've got a five game losing streak. The last time they won was one nothing in Kansas City. Yeah, they've scored five runs in the last six games. That's the first time the Yankees have done that since 1968. That's 57 years ago. And for those of you that weren't alive then, Yankees were awful in 1968. Not good. They are literally the first team in the history of baseball going back to 1869. Peter. 1869, you said 1869.
Alan Hahn
All right.
Don Hahn
First time in the history of Major League baseball that a team has been shut out three consecutive games and struck out more than 10 times in all three games. That's only the, the seventh time in franchise history, Allen, that they've been shut out three consecutive times.
Peter Rosenberg
That's the part that makes you crazy is the constant strikeouts. And then you got Hendricks, he's throwing underhand. I mean the guy like he's seriously throwing soft.
Don Hahn
Doesn't break a plane of glass.
Peter Rosenberg
It's real. And yet it's getting fooled by off speed, when actually his fastball was off speed. It is judge expanding the strike zone, which we know that becomes debuggable for him when he starts pressing. And it's the fact that they had a team meeting, closed door meeting. The four MVPs got together and they had a conversation. And you know why? I think that was a complete waste of time? Cuz when they opened the doors and the media was allowed in, there wasn't any broken furniture, right? No. Come on. If you're having a meeting, what are we talking about?
Don Hahn
Well, let's see. I want to, like, you're gonna have.
Peter Rosenberg
A meeting and then what are you doing? All right. Hey, we need to, like, you know, do better. We know we're good, and we got to get out of it. We got to stick together. That's great. That's great. I can get that on a greeting card. But there has to be something more, which is, hey, Jaz, how about layout for that one? Instead of letting hit the tip of your glove, who's going to make the extra play? How about we don't get caught off base? How about we, like. There's just so many moments that I told you when I said bad sign or bad game about that Red Sox series, because it was showing you the things that make the Yankees the. The bad version of themselves, and now they're stuck in it. So somebody flips something over in that clubhouse, break some furniture or. Don't bother telling me about these fricking meetings. They're useless, performative for the media only.
Don Hahn
There's that and then there's. How do you have a meeting about failure? Like baseball, you fail 70% of the time if you're good. All right, so it's not about slumping. There's nothing wrong with being in a slump. Nothing wrong with, hey, just not. Not getting the bat on the ball, striking out. It's a hard sport, Peter.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, I played it.
Don Hahn
That's not why you have a meeting. You have a meeting about approach. You have a meeting about mistakes that are being made. You don't have a meeting about why aren't we hitting? Why are we slumping? You have a meeting saying, why are we swinging at the first place? Why are we not working counts? Why are we swinging at bad pitches? Why are we trying to hit home runs when a broken bat singles enough to win the game? The other night when they were in down one nothing, with the bases loaded in two outs at the bottom of the 11th inning, they need Volpe to hit a grand slam home run. They need Volpe hit a bloop over second. It scores two runs. They win the game 2 to 1. Yeah, so they're obviously having a meeting because why is Jazz swinging out of his cleats to hit the ball 500ft when just putting the bat on the ball is enough? That's why they're having a meeting. Alan. Why? Why is this happening? Why is our approach complete garbage? Why are we not walking? Why are we not working counts? Why are we swinging at the first pitch? Why are we letting the ball play us? Why Are we trying to hit home runs when a single is more than enough to get the job done? That's what they're meeting about. That's the problem.
Peter Rosenberg
Do we have Bellinger discussing the pressure? Because that, to me, is also something that I got. I was reached. The message received after this. Now, you know, if somebody did have their spit all over the walls in the clubhouse after that meeting, they're never gonna tell you. Like, oh, man, Judge tore into guys. They're never gonna reveal that. So I understand it.
Alan Hahn
But by the way, that's not their way.
Peter Rosenberg
It doesn't feel like it's their way. It does not. No. They'll write a sternly worded letter.
Alan Hahn
Stern is strong. I'd be impressed with Stern.
Peter Rosenberg
Okay? But when I start to hear narratives like pressure, that's when I'll say, it's June. That's when I'll say that. Cuz if this is pressure, feeling a little extra pressure that you're trying too hard, you want to do it so bad, guys, it's June. Can you imagine if pressure's the issue now, what's the pressure like in October? Well, like, this is what you're telling me, so I. I don't like. It's a poor choice of words. It's a poor way to explain it. He's new here. I know he's, you know, Bellinger's new, but I didn't love this.
Don Hahn
Right. This is what he had to say about what's the mood in the club as an offense? Definitely frustrating. The only thing you can do now is wake up tomorrow and continue, like I just said, to play our best baseball. You know, I trust, you know, the guys in this locker room, and, you know, we've. We've done it plenty of times already this year, so play for each other and keep on going.
Peter Rosenberg
He also said there's a certain point where it's not necessarily going your way and you feel it.
Don Hahn
Right. Talking about the offensive slump, it's been a fight. You know, obviously, we're not getting the job done with runners in scoring position, not getting a lot of base runners, not causing traffic. So, you know, we got to keep going and wake up tomorrow, and now we got to. We got to get going.
Peter Rosenberg
He said the key quote to me.
Don Hahn
This is what we have. That's all we have.
Peter Rosenberg
All right? You feel extra pressure to get the job done. At the end of the day, it's the same. We've had good conversations.
Don Hahn
Yeah, well, there shouldn't be pressure.
Peter Rosenberg
Pressure.
Don Hahn
Listen, I'm sure there Wasn't a ton of pressure in Chicago, but he played in la, his dad played here with the Yankees. So I think he understands the pressure of it. It just, it starts to compile because anytime you don't perform well as a professional, it's because you try to do more than you should. That's. That, that's where Juds gets in trouble. You made a great point during our meeting, is that the reason he doesn't hit in the postseason is because he's not, he's not approaching. His plate appearance is the same as he does in the regular season. Don't do that. It's still a game, all right? Go out there and play within yourself and don't try to do too much. But it's a self fulfilling prophecy right now. Things start to build up now It's a thing. 29 consecutive innings without a run, three consecutive shutouts, five consecutive losses for the first time this year. So now you're gonna feel it.
Peter Rosenberg
Can I also stop you on the Judge thing? When Judge admits to trying to do too much and when Boone talks about he's expanding his strike zone and that's why you're seeing him swing at those pitches that are outside the zone and he falls into that habit, that's when I've got to say to myself, this guy is one of the great hitters in the history of the sport. And he hasn't figured it out yet. He hasn't figured out that. That's like the one with that. That's his, that's his Achilles heel, right? Isn't that. That's his one bugaboo. That's his weakness. That gets exposed in the postseason all the time because they don't throw him strikes or they throw him pitches that look like strikes and end up out of the strike zone and he swings them, he falls for it. And you would think by now, by now he'd know, all right, I'm doing this, I gotta stop. He'd know that. Okay, 1 for 12 with 9 strikeout. Whatever it is he's going through, I know, I sent it to Anthony because the numbers stand by, the numbers on him.
Don Hahn
0 for 4.
Peter Rosenberg
All right? 3 strikeouts last night. He is now 2 for 20 with 13 strikeouts in that, 2 for 20 in his right in his last 20 bats. And I'm just saying, you would think even he would say, I just gotta make contact, put this thing in play, get on first and get the boys going. But he's still striking out in the way that we always see him do when he's going through a hard time. That's the part where I start to say, wait a second, shouldn't you now be at a place that even, you know, here I go. I gotta get out of this.
Don Hahn
And Boone talked about, how do you turn this around? Just focus on what we do and our process. And these guys are excellent at turning the page.
Peter Rosenberg
Tough few days, no question. Today I felt like maybe pressing a.
Don Hahn
Little bit in some at bats, but.
Peter Rosenberg
We'Ll come in with the right process.
Don Hahn
And just really focus on grinding out quality at bats. And we start to stack, those will take off. Listen, he started out well, that their approach has to be better. Yes, we figured that out. But then it's right to the positive that nobody better are turning the page. That's what these guys know how to do. Well, you didn't turn the page from Monday to Tuesday, so why am I supposed to assume you're going to turn the page now to Wednesday? And you had. They had a players only meeting. So the players now are concerned enough about it. The manager should be concerned about it because they actually had a meeting that didn't involve you. So now, so now you're like whispering in the wind, right? Like, because you're telling everybody it's okay. It's unicorns and rainbows. Meanwhile, while you're saying that the team is meeting behind your back is not good. Telling you this isn't good.
Peter Rosenberg
Yep.
Don Hahn
So it's, it's. It. I'm. I was just. I watched that game slack Joe. I just cannot believe it. Then I figured, you know what they're going to do. Goldschmidt's gonna hit a home run in the ninth inning.
Peter Rosenberg
Make it four, two, right there.
Don Hahn
Get off the schneide, you know, and then they'll be all that positive. Like, off. We had another inning. Maybe we would have been able to figure it out, but alas. And still went down.
Alan Hahn
Right.
Don Hahn
Making Hunter Strickland look like he's Mariano Rivera over the last couple of nights. I mean, come on.
Alan Hahn
It's. It's really scary because, Alan, you were alluding to this. If you're getting overwhelmed as a player right now by the pressure in this moment, you know, and a losing streak is a tough thing, but if this, if this June baseball is overwhelming for you, what is the conversation we're having in October.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Don Hahn
And don't have your manager say, oh, we're great at turning the page. Well, you've. You lost five in a row and you've scored five runs in the last six games. It doesn't sound like you're turning any page.
Alan Hahn
And you have to be. Have some self awareness.
Peter Rosenberg
Not even open.
Alan Hahn
And have some self awareness that this particular way of losing is their Achilles heel. They're not just losing games. It would be one thing if like, they had. They had relievers blowing saves. No, this is the way they lose in the playoffs. We've seen this before.
Peter Rosenberg
That's what I said Monday. That's why I said what I said.
Alan Hahn
That's why your panic made sense.
Peter Rosenberg
I saw something I didn't like and it continued. That's my only point.
Don Hahn
And you know what's interesting? Just like in the playoffs, Peter, you know who the one guy is that's hitting over the last couple of years?
Alan Hahn
My boy.
Don Hahn
Playoff G. Playoff G. He bets.500. That's what he does. The team is a complete, completely lost income. Stanton. Two hits. Two hits.
Peter Rosenberg
He looks around like, guys, nice, fine.
Don Hahn
All you gotta do is swing at this thing. Maybe they. Maybe just. They should just meet with Stanton privately, you know, and just sit down with him.
Alan Hahn
He wouldn't go to the meeting. Or he's just like on the tanning bed.
Don Hahn
You know what he should have said? I'm good.
Alan Hahn
I'm good. No, you know what?
Don Hahn
I'm good. First of all, I wasn't even here for the first three games of the losing streak. I've got like four hits in the last two games. I'm good. All right, tell me where we're going. Out to eat after you guys meet. How come? Think about it.
Peter Rosenberg
It's like the Four tenors. They have four MVPs on team, right? Four guys who, you know, have had the highest amount of success in the sport. And they look around the room and they're all like, oh, we know we have great offense. Okay, that's great. You know you have it. Then what's the problem? And how is it all at the same time? Every one of you at one point in your careers carried an offense. That's how you became an mvp.
Don Hahn
You can't have that many people out of the lineup. Interesting. Ben Rice catching tonight.
Peter Rosenberg
His first major league. Right?
Don Hahn
First time in the major league. Again, just trying to work out how guys can get at bats. With Stanton back is the one thing you can't afford to do is take Stanton out of the lineup. Now that's the Yankee side of things. I want to bring the Mets into the opening monologue as well, because that was brutal last night. Now I'm. It's 4:1. I'm keeping an eye on the Yankees, I'm watching game six and I'm like, oh, we're good. Mets have got it going on. Soto hits a blast. 111.
Peter Rosenberg
That could have been six one. So many times it could have been six one.
Don Hahn
You know, they don't add on, but they're good. You know, Garrett's on the mound for the eighth inning. You can bring two outs, two outs, you're in great shape. Bases loaded. Then Ozunia gets the double, ties the game up.
Peter Rosenberg
That was a rope, by the way, though. That was a rope.
Don Hahn
But then you're hearing after that Alvarez had crossed up Garrett. And then in the 10th inning, you got Alvarez thrown to the wrong base and he's not hitting.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Don Hahn
And you got guys like John Heyman suggesting that Terence should be the starting catcher. And I don't disagree. Now, if you remember, Alvarez turned down a contract extension. So I don't know if that's in his head right now. But again, leaving runners in scoring position has been a problem all year. Leaving runs on the table. And he had the Soto based running mistake, which we can debate. Michael was on, said the umpire didn't signal right away. Obviously Soto didn't know if it was caught or not. Now, is that something he should know? He did the right thing. He went halfway. Looked pretty obvious to me that the ball was caught at the wall, but I guess he didn't pick it up. And he said, and Michael backed it up because he says he does it as a play by play guy. When you're not sure, look at the umpire. And apparently the umpire very lackadaisically just eventually put his arm up.
Peter Rosenberg
By that time it was a great catch.
Don Hahn
It was a great catch. And obviously Soto didn't pick it up. If you want to fault him for that, fine. Okay. But apparently the process from a runner, I would think you take a look at the third or first base coach to get an indication. But I guess the umpire, well, the umpire should know out. He's. It's his call. So if he says safe and I run the second base and then all of a sudden they review it and he say out, well, don't blame me. The umpire called it out.
Peter Rosenberg
Right.
Don Hahn
If the umpire is slow to react, then you're going to be slow to react going to first base and you're going to get thrown out. Double play doesn't look good. But still it happened. And it happened at the worst possible time. They're that close to attacking on runs. Don't do it. And then the bonehead play in the 10th base running mistakes. But everybody and their mother said, oh, the bugaboo of Atlanta is over because they won the first game of the double header last year and they clinched the playoff spot. Okay, well, now it feels like it's back. When you got a 41 lead in the 8th inning, you blow it. Luckily, Philadelphia lost to the Marlins. Bad job out of them. But listen, it's not as bad as what, you know, the Yankees are going through, but they've now lost four in a row and, you know, it's, it doesn't look great. That's when you're letting the Braves back in. And now you're putting a lot of pressure on yourself for the rest of the series.
Peter Rosenberg
Also, how they, how it happened, right, Don? Like that's. Again, my point is that you're going to have games where you don't hit. You're going to have games where your pitcher gets bombed. It does happen. That's when you give me a. It's a long season. You can't overreact. There's going to be games like that. But to me, it's what did it look like? And as I watched that Mets game back, that's all I kept seeing was they got real loose late in that game with a lot of mistakes, a lot of issues that you saw that looked like a team that wasn't as locked in as they needed to be. And a Braves team that again, you got to be a little more locked in because it's the Braves. Am I like I know you watch as a fan and you have that feeling of that's a rival and you should be extra. This game means twice as much as any other game. And pro pros aren't like that. Pros just play a game. It's a game, it's another game. But I don't know if you can be like that when you play a team like this. If you are a Met, you know what the Braves are to you. There are enough guys in that clubhouse that have been around long enough to know what the Braves have done to the Mets and, and the frustration that comes with it. Pete Alonso has lived it. Lindor has lived it. These guys know. So I understand. If Soto doesn't know or anybody else that might be new doesn't really know. Nimmo knows. So you know, the minute the first pitch is made, like we are locked in because we want to beat this team in particular because they have been a thorn in our sides. It didn't feel like that once again. And that's how I felt about the Yankees and the Red Sox. It was the same kind of thing. So I'll ask you, Don, as our residents met fan, bad sign or just a bad game?
Don Hahn
Well, it's. I want to say just a bad game, but you followed it up by getting swept at home. So now it's a bad series of games. Didn't look good on Saturday. Sunday, bullpen blows the lead on Friday. Then the bullpen, you know, blows the lead again. Even though there were extenuating circumstances like the Alvarez throw, they could have gotten out of that tenth. And then the mix up with Alvarez at catcher, I'm going to say concerning, because I think Alvarez is concerning. He's supposed to be becoming a star player in this league, and now there's actual conversation about having Terence be the starting catcher or maybe sending Alvarez down. Like, are we winning a championship if that's going to be our catcher?
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, that's the problem. To be the stud.
Don Hahn
Yeah. You know, he got called up, if you remember, during the 22 season, and I thought they rushed him up, but he was like, oh, for eight. And he. He seemed overwhelmed. Then he had the hamate bone this year, and that kind of hurt the spring training and everything.
Peter Rosenberg
But he has given. He's shown you signs of being special.
Don Hahn
But, you know, but. But again, it's gotta. They. They got out of the 10th inning. You run. It's fundamental baseball. You run towards the baserunner, you don't throw behind him, and then he just takes third base. It's bad enough if he gets back to second.
Peter Rosenberg
Right.
Don Hahn
But don't let him go to third.
Peter Rosenberg
Right.
Don Hahn
You know, and he admitted that he made the mistake. But here's Carlos Mendoza. Remember where Carlos came from? Yep. Okay.
Alan Hahn
Oh, I know.
Don Hahn
Remember, he was a bench coach for who?
Peter Rosenberg
Zachary Boone.
Don Hahn
All right, here is what Carlos Mendoza said about Alvarez. Throw to second.
Peter Rosenberg
He gets the runner hanging there, and.
Don Hahn
You know, as soon as he makes.
Peter Rosenberg
A move towards the second base, Alvi.
Don Hahn
Just gets rid of the ball trying to get him.
Peter Rosenberg
That was a good play by the runner there.
Don Hahn
Realizing that he was kind of like.
Peter Rosenberg
On no man's land and took off. So, yeah, you got to give him credit on that one.
Don Hahn
Do you not have a problem with him throwing to second base there?
Peter Rosenberg
No. I mean, once, you know, that's your reaction there. You know, you pick up the baseball, you get a runner that is hanging there between second and third, and he makes an attempt to go back as.
Don Hahn
A player, your reaction is you're going to. You want to try to get him and then get a good job.
Peter Rosenberg
And you know what that is? That's being selfish. Instead of just making the right fundamental play, you're trying to make the spectacular play. Oh, I'm going to nail them. I'm going to get him out. So you're gonna make the play that is. That's not the fundamental play. You're gonna make the play that you.
Don Hahn
Feel like that's the winning run.
Peter Rosenberg
That's an ego play. I'm gonna throw him out instead of. No, I'm gonna just make sure he doesn't advance.
Don Hahn
I'm really surprised he went that far. It's one thing, it's like, hey, he got a little aggressive.
Alan Hahn
He got caught.
Don Hahn
No, at the beginning, no problem. You run towards the base. The thing that has to be is that no matter what ends up happening, he does not get the third. Like, if I don't get him, fine. It'd be great. Like you said, spectacular play. I now taken that runner out, Don. He was run out of an end.
Peter Rosenberg
He was trying to throw him out right there.
Don Hahn
You have to make sure he's trying.
Peter Rosenberg
To throw him out.
Don Hahn
Whatever I do, he doesn't end up at third. He represents the game right there. It's bad enough the baseball's put him at second base. Now you're going to move him to third, run towards it. And if he gets back the second, he gets back to second. You can't as a manager. I'm sorry, man. We can't live in this 21st century. Unicorn and rainbows. All the players never make any mistakes. They're just overly aggressive. No problem. No. What's wrong with a manager? Just saying, listen, he won't do it again. But he made a mistake. He got caught. We still believe in him. We still think he's a good catcher. He won't do it next time. But that can't be. He made a mistake. You can't say that anymore, Alan. You can't call a player out for making an obvious mistake.
Peter Rosenberg
It's the way you said it. That's the way you can say it in today's world. I love him. He's going to be a great player for us. But he can't do that. Just say that we love him. You always just keep adding that part. We love him. We think the world of him.
Alan Hahn
They don't do. I believe in him, but it makes no sense.
Don Hahn
I go back, I bring it up all the time, going back to whatever year that was. 21, 22 a buck show Walter Starling Marte got thrown out at second, ran the Mets out of an inning. And Buck said, hey, we love Starling. He's an aggressive player, but he'll never do it again. He backed him up, but at the end just said no, you know what mistake. He won't do it again. Like, you can have both. I got the guys back. But you know what? Having somebody's back is sometimes telling them you know what you're screwing up.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Don Hahn
Now maybe he said that behind closed doors. And if that's always going to be the answer guys wrong too, well. Well, no, I'm sure Boone's chewing him out behind the scenes. I'm sure Mendoza took Alvarez aside. Then can we all just do a favor? Let's all come together with an agreement. Let's not talk. Let's not talk to players or coaches or managers after the all just a lie. If it's all just. If it's all just stand up right. Then let's not even bother doing it.
Peter Rosenberg
That's. I've always felt like that. Then don't bother saying anything at all. But I don't understand it because it's still sports, it's still a business, and fans still matter. This is not about giving the media something. You got to remember, you are treating the media like a conduit to the fans. The fans want to know and they deserve to know some of this stuff. And it's okay to do that.
Don Hahn
Oh, you don't have to tell me the details. You want to say he won't do it again. I talked to him about it. That's our business. Keep it.
Peter Rosenberg
What'd you say to him?
Don Hahn
But I'm left to believe that how Aaron Boone is after games is how he is behind closed doors. And that Carlos Mendoza had Alvarez's back behind closed doors. Because if you're telling me that they're lying to us, then please God, let's stop play the rain delay music on yes in the post game instead of talking to these guys. Cuz if they're just lying to you, don't waste my time.
Peter Rosenberg
Right.
Don Hahn
1-800-919-3776. You gotta be hot if you're a Met and Yankee fan. Today. At least today it's hot out. We finally saw the sun. Confirmation. It's day. There's actually a sun.
Alan Hahn
It exists.

Game Time is brought to you by Teleportu Irish whiskey. Because when it's game time fell.
Alan Hahn
It's totally time.
Peter Rosenberg
Let's not do that again.
Don Hahn
That was a lot going on there.
Alan Hahn
Too much.
Don Hahn
We need to assess because I. I don't think it was as bad as Al makes it. If. If one of us don't like it to that extent, then we have to talk. Well, but you know what we'll do? We'll have a players only be we should the Mets continue their series with the Braves coverage immediately following us at 8 on 880 at 6:35 and that right. Yankees and the Angels at the stadium at 7:05. I'm going to say it. Book it. Yankees score in the first.
Peter Rosenberg
Book it.
Don Hahn
Write it down.
Alan Hahn
You know what I was going to say about the Yankees? Book it.
Peter Rosenberg
We suck.
Don Hahn
No, no.
Peter Rosenberg
Come on.
Don Hahn
No. First place.
Alan Hahn
But this week we suck.
Don Hahn
Yeah, no, listen. Getting shut out is Yankees last night.
Peter Rosenberg
We suck. You know who didn't suck?
Alan Hahn
Mets.
Don Hahn
That is.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, well, Garrett Cole broadcasting future. Yeah, he was very good.
Alan Hahn
Did he. He joined Michael.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, he was in the booth. He had his uniform on, which was cool. He sat in the booth.
Alan Hahn
Why did he have his uniform?
Peter Rosenberg
He had the pants and then he had a T shirt, not the jersey on. But he was dressed like a Yankee.
Don Hahn
I guess he was probably planning on being in the dugout.
Peter Rosenberg
He was hanging out. Yeah. And so it was him and Todd Frazier.
Don Hahn
And Todd Frazier's pretty good man.
Peter Rosenberg
Todd Frazier's very good.
Alan Hahn
Wait, hold on.
Peter Rosenberg
But his insight was excellent.
Alan Hahn
Go ahead, finish it up.
Peter Rosenberg
Take it out.
Don Hahn
Tullamore do the original triple still triple blended and triple cast matured Irish whiskey. Robbie Tullamore, you do or try to do Tullamore do. Honey. During today's action, glasses up to enjoying. Tullamore do responsibly. Peter Rosenberg continues.
Peter Rosenberg
Uncle Don.
Alan Hahn
Wait, Garrett Cole is out the whole year?
Don Hahn
That's right.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, in baseball and some of next year.
Alan Hahn
Okay, in baseball, if you want to show up and be at a game, do you have to dress in the dugout?
Don Hahn
Dugout. You have to be in uniform.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh yeah. What'd you think he was going to show up?
Alan Hahn
I was wearing a hoodie about shorts.
Peter Rosenberg
Like. No, he's got to be in uniform.
Alan Hahn
Well, hold on. You could wear the pants and a hoodie though. He had a team issued team issued hoodie and pants.
Peter Rosenberg
He did not have the jersey on. I said he had the like a dark Yankees shirt on.
Don Hahn
Isn't that weird?
Alan Hahn
But no. When you stop for a moment every once in a while, think about all the weird things they do in baseball, from the managers wearing a uniform to the players can't sit in a dugout in street clothes. There's so much weird stuff about baseball.
Don Hahn
I kind of like it though.
Alan Hahn
I'm not saying I hate it, it's just weird.
Peter Rosenberg
Wouldn't it be great if like in the NBA coach had to wear like at least the warm ups?
Alan Hahn
It'd be absolutely. Imagine Tibs.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, they already are wearing athleisure anyway. Well, now they are warm up pants. And the zipper.
Don Hahn
I'll tell you why I like it, is that there's only. It just tells you there's only people that are allowed to be in there. Like, he's obviously somebody that has a uniform. He's wearing the uniform. It's not like, oh, Peter, you want to sit in the dugout, Here's a Yankee uniform. It doesn't work that way. But I do like it because if you look at like an NFL game, like all the people on the sidelines, they all have to be there. You know, the players agent and you know, like doctors. Like, what are you doing?
Alan Hahn
Is Chet Holmgren more Beavis or Butthead?
Peter Rosenberg
Well, that was random.
Don Hahn
I don't know, but you see what I'm saying?
Peter Rosenberg
No, no, it's Butthead.
Alan Hahn
It's Butthead.
Peter Rosenberg
Beavis is blonde.
Alan Hahn
Oh, that shows. Butthead.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, he's got the butt. He does have.
Alan Hahn
He has a butt thing going.
Peter Rosenberg
Unfortunate, but he does.
Alan Hahn
I mean, he's going to be all right, but.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, he's doing just fine.
Don Hahn
He's fine.
Alan Hahn
But it did just. He was on TV and it jumped out. Let's see if the Thunder and the Pacers can close out the winter sports playoffs with a full on, you know.
Don Hahn
You know what? You know, thank you. Because if it's anything like last night, you know, Thunder win by 20 and it's like, by the way, we're can't be like last.
Peter Rosenberg
We're not playing tonight.
Don Hahn
Yeah, that's Thursday.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, we got more days off. No, no, no. Sit back, relax.
Don Hahn
Those adds to the anticipation.
Peter Rosenberg
We'll get there eventually. We're not there yet, but we'll get there eventually.
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Alan Hahn
It's unreal.
Peter Rosenberg
It's Unreal. Unreal.
Alan Hahn
I can't believe it's not tonight. And I get, I'm. I would make being a human being.
Don Hahn
Figuring, no, the game will be tonight.
Peter Rosenberg
Will be normal just like Sunday. You just.
Alan Hahn
I'd almost guarantee that this, the NBA will not be as bad as the NHL Game six was done.
Don Hahn
Oh, no, no one to ten.
Alan Hahn
What'd be worse?
Don Hahn
Well, if Halliburton's barely playing.
Alan Hahn
But what do we know?
Peter Rosenberg
They are.
Alan Hahn
That's what I'm saying.
Peter Rosenberg
The Pacers are hard to kill.
Don Hahn
I get it.
Peter Rosenberg
But that game last night, I know we're doing baseball and we'll get, we'll get to calls, but for you as a hockey guy. I'm a hockey fan. But you're a hockey guy. Did that game and the way it went just disgust you? Like, come on, I was disgusting.
Don Hahn
I opened it yesterday. Last night sucked. You know, from a Yankee standpoint, a Mets standpoint. And just for. Listen, if you're a Panther fan, you were thinking, and it wasn't even that I'm an Oiler fan. I just wanted to see a Game seven. I wanted to see a classic, good series. Because now the fact that three of the first four games went to overtime doesn't matter. Doesn't matter. It wasn't a great series. And. But we'll get into that because there's a lot of things that we can branch off that just doesn't include Connor McDavid. But there's a lot of different jumping off points we'll get to in a little bit. But wanted to get to these Yankee and met calls. 1-800-919-3776 column in the Bronx gets us started here on Don on the Rosenberg.
D
What's going on, Don and Peter, how are we doing? I'm obviously, I'm obviously, I'm obviously frustrated and I've been calling for years. And I say the same thing about the Yankees. For the last, I feel like the last decade, they have had a problem with hitting and they've had a problem with hitting in the playoffs. And the only person right now I could say on this roster that I trust in the playoffs is if Stanton's healthy, we know Stanton's going to hit.
Don Hahn
But.
D
They'Ve had the issues and they always go out and go after pitching. Like I said it the years before, when they got Rodon, the year before they got Rodin in game two against the Astros. They lost the game two one. And their idea was we go get Rodon. And if they had Rodin in a game two pitching behind Cole, they would have, even if he pitches a shutout, they, they'd still, they'd still probably lose.
Don Hahn
You know what I mean?
D
So it's like, it's frustrating that the Yankees have had an, have had hitting issues for so long and go back, I have it in front of me if you want me to. If you want me to read it. But go Back to the 2009 Yankees World Series lineup. If you look at their. Their stats, there are seven guys on that team. Seven guys that would be the second best hitter on this Yankee roster behind Judge and the 8th and 9 guy, Milky Cabrera and Nick Swisher would be top four hitters on this Yankee. On this Yankee lineup.
Don Hahn
Right.
D
They have not gotten consistent. Yeah, look what they did. Look what their stats did. Look what Nick Swisher did. He had 29 home runs, batted.250 with nine with like 85 RBI.
Don Hahn
That would probably be the fourth best bidder on the team.
Peter Rosenberg
Come on. Bellinger and Goldschmidt are not. That's not what you guys used to. Flotsam and jetsam.
Don Hahn
There's a good quality play. Former MVPs. Now, granted, it's not like they are. Well, listen, Bellinger's 29 now. If you want to say Goldschmidt starting to feel it at 37, going to be 38. I get it.
Peter Rosenberg
Which only happened for the year.
Don Hahn
But. But come on. You've got Judge, you've got Bellinger, you've got Goldschmidt. Volpe's got eight home runs again. I don't think it's a murderer's row. It's not the. What Sterling used to call the circular lineup. Like, there's not an easy. It's not like that. Those days are gone. But this Yankee lineup should not get shut out three consecutive days. Have five runs in six games. You kidding? Like people forget that win against the Royals, Their last win, they won one nothing. The only big hit they've gotten, ironically enough, because, you know Stanton's hit. But it hasn't been like big hits. You've been getting shut out was the home run of the ninth thing on Friday against the Red Sox.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, that gave you hope. You thought you might have a chance.
Don Hahn
To win, but unfortunately on the road, Yankees are an automatic loss. When they go to the man for man, they're done. Let's go to Jerry in South Hackensack here on Don Hanna.
Alan Hahn
Rosenberg.
Don Hahn
What's up, Jerry?
E
Hey, thanks for taking the call, boys.
Don Hahn
Oh, real quick, Alan.
E
I know tomorrow's your birthday. I want to wish you a very happy birthday.
Alan Hahn
Thank you, beautiful.
Peter Rosenberg
Appreciate that.
E
And the only reason why I know is today's mine, so I know mine's difficult.
Don Hahn
Happy birthday.
Peter Rosenberg
There you go. Jim Knight.
Don Hahn
Thanks.
E
Thanks. Hey, I am 61 today, so you sound good.
Don Hahn
Thanks.
E
Thanks. Hey, you know, listen, I am certainly not blaming Judge for This five game losing streak, but it does show you how we're just never going to win a World Series if regular season Judge doesn't show up in the playoffs. As Judge goes, the Yankees go now. Again, not blaming them. And I'm a realist when it comes to the Yankees. It's a long season, 162 games. I'm not a guy that freaks out over a couple of losses. Yes. Is it a little concerning that we haven't scored a run in a week and a half?
Don Hahn
Sure.
E
But you know, it's a long season. But my biggest point is Judge has to hit in the playoffs. I'm sorry. You know, if he wants to get led into that, you know, illustrious room of Yankee greats, he better have a world Series ring and he better have a real world series ring with which he helps us get one.
Don Hahn
Well, let's get to October 1st, but go ahead.
E
And one quick point, Don. Are you going to get some shots on tv? I mean, I know Kenny got the Bain job, but I'm sure he does everything. There's got to be open spots and you know, the best compliment I could give you and Alan is you make rooting for my favorite team so much better being part of the broadcast and I really thought you should have got a shot for the TV job.
Don Hahn
Well, thank you, Gary. Listen, I'm a radio guy and content to do the radio and I'm sure I'll get a ton of games this year and I'm looking forward to the hockey season. But that's nice to hear that they.
Peter Rosenberg
Pay attention to people want more legreco.
Don Hahn
I'm all for I want more Han.
Peter Rosenberg
I'm behind that.
Don Hahn
And that's why you should listen to the show because you get a lot of Don and Han on Don Han and Roseberg and also tv.
Alan Hahn
Well, yeah, but I don't do any games.
Don Hahn
But you do wrestling.
Peter Rosenberg
Damn right. You call matches matches.
Alan Hahn
Tonight WWE evolve on tubi.
Don Hahn
Okay.
Alan Hahn
And I just, I just found out my assignment for fanatics fest. Very excited about it.

I'm not gigantic stars and I'm co hosting. I'm co hosting with the great Michael Cole. I'm in. I'm in what they know is the McAfee spot.
Peter Rosenberg
That means you really got to bring it like dial it up.
Alan Hahn
No, it's true. That's true. Because I'll hear it from Pat If I, if I don't, if I don't.
Don Hahn
Step up, you'll hear it then and maybe hear it later on on the show on Monday. Exactly.

Yankees on Amazon. Get excited, everybody. Oh, we love it. I cut the cable. Yay. I'm on an app.
Peter Rosenberg
Honestly, I might just stick to the Mets tonight.
Don Hahn
You know, I'll just stare at the wall.
Peter Rosenberg
Seriously, I will probably have the Mets on the main tv. The whole family loves the Mets anyway, right? And the Yankees will have to live life on Amazon on my phone and I'll watch it back at.
Alan Hahn
I mean, at this moment, you might just want to watch Mets on the. I mean, Yankees on the MLB at bat app.
Peter Rosenberg
You know what I'm saying?
Alan Hahn
Like, do you really want to like, have. Have everyone. Gamecast sit around, sit around and everybody. Let's all watch. We're going to get three hits over the course of next two and a half hours.
Peter Rosenberg
Jack Koch. Yeah, he's pitch it.
Don Hahn
I just, I just wonder again, I'm having fun and I'm sure there's a whole bunch of people are like, don, you have no idea. The app is the thing. I just want to know when they are on Amazon or when you find out that some. The. The first wild card game is on Amazon or your favorite baseball team is going to play on Peacock or Roku on a Sunday. Are you like, yes, finally my team's on a Roku game. Like when I went out Giant fan growing up. I'm sure Peter went through this too. Oh, yeah, we got Madden and Summer all.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, come on, baby.
Don Hahn
We're on CBS proper, man. We're going to get Madden and Summer All. You go Peacock. Yes. I've been waiting all year for them to be on Peacock. And then I get to hit input and then I get to go there and change the channel and then check Snyder.
Peter Rosenberg
No, no, it's worse. It's worse. You're watching on streaming and you get the alert that a touchdown was scored before you even.
Alan Hahn
Oh, that. That drives me. You know what? Add that to my list. Whoever's out there, add it to my list. Here are the list of things it's good for a Talk about a Tuesday.
Peter Rosenberg
Okay?
Alan Hahn
The technology, things that are just. You can't believe are still going on. We were talking about this today on Cheap Heat. Wherever you find podcasts, it came up because Dipperstein, my manager, was at a hotel in Atlanta and we talk about this every time one of us in a hotel. You could be staying at A five star hotel with the New York Rangers. You could be staying at a Hampton Inn. When will they make it? So the TV remote in a hotel is a normal experience. You don't push guide and have to wait 8 seconds for it to load up. And when you arrow through channels, it's like a three second delay.
Peter Rosenberg
Because Peter is not cable.
Alan Hahn
It's not cable. It's some weird Ethernet system.
Peter Rosenberg
It's Ethernet.
Alan Hahn
But what is that? Why can't they just give it.
Peter Rosenberg
I don't know.
Alan Hahn
They have noticed. You know what I'm talking about, right?
Don Hahn
Yes, I know.
Alan Hahn
You can't just deal with channels.
Peter Rosenberg
I've dealt with it as a delay.
Alan Hahn
I think it's because. Because they want to have the system where you can order pay per view movies. As if people are still doing that. I need to know who's ordering the $25 movie with streaming these days. So that's a problem. Bluetooth drives me insane. I mean, don't get me wrong, it's a great technology in general. Except every phone call you're having with someone who's on Bluetooth, at some point they're disconnecting and there's.
Don Hahn
Oh, oh, hello. Hello, hello, hello, hello.
Alan Hahn
Oh, sorry, sorry. My Bluetooth.
Don Hahn
Hold on, hold on.
Alan Hahn
When are we going to get.
Don Hahn
Not going to.
Alan Hahn
And it's every day there's something new that tries. What was the one you brought up that just sent me down this path?
Peter Rosenberg
Well, it's the fact that I can watch a game and get the alert. The ESPN alert comes up.
Don Hahn
They don't know that a run scored or.
Alan Hahn
No, no. It's worse than the ESPN alert though. How about this? If you have the NFL Sunday ticket and you're watching on the app, the NFL Sunday ticket app itself will alert you of a highlighter score before you see it. It's all within the same app. You don't have a thing that should know. Like, we can't tell people I'm watching the Commander's game. Don't tell me there was a 73 yard Terry McLaren touchdown. You ruined my Sunday. It's not.
Don Hahn
And I wish the networks would get caught up when they go back to the studio for a highlight and you get excited and think that the game that you care about, there was another score, realized it was actually a half hour ago. Like, don't they realize that we are in real time now? We've got the technology to be updated on all the scores.
Alan Hahn
So true.
Don Hahn
So let's check in on the, on the, on the Philly Cardinal game. And then they. You see a touchdown that, like, literally was like 20 minutes ago.
Alan Hahn
They've been doing that since we were little kids.
Don Hahn
We got excited because you didn't know it was new information.
Alan Hahn
Although even back then. Or you didn't sometimes even back then, though, you would have already had seen the score on the bottom of the screen for the last 10 minutes. And then they show me the score. I just want to share about you.
Peter Rosenberg
The play is different. And Don's right. Like, you know, you have red zone. So during commercials, you know you're going to red zone during the commercial. But anyways.
Don Hahn
All right, let's.
Peter Rosenberg
Yes. Amazon tonight. Great fun.
Alan Hahn
Great.
Don Hahn
In New Hampshire. You're on espn. New York. What's up, Pete? Hey, guys. What's going on? How are you? I just. The Yankee thing, I think everybody's getting a little too crazy over it. Every team goes through a slump. Every team goes through a losing streak during the season. 162 game marathon. And I also think that no matter what Boone or Cashman do, they can go 162 and all win the World Series. They'll still find something wrong with they did what they did. But I don't know what we're left to do. Pete, just say, hey, it's baseball. We'll just, we'll talk about it in October.
Peter Rosenberg
Let me, let me ask Pete. No, Don. Don, let. Pete. Don't you think, though, it's not what's happened, which is the losses and the show, it's what it looks like? No. Like, you didn't see the game against the. You didn't see the series against the Red Sox in Fenway and say to yourself, yeah, I saw that team last year. And when I saw that team last year in the playoffs, that's a bad look. And you never want to see them do that again. And yet there it is that you were hoping that that version of the Yankees was finally gone. That's why I'm reacting. I'm not reacting because they lost a game. We all know they're going to lose games. It's what it looked like worried me because that to me was like, no, I don't ever want to see that team again. It's the way they played that bothered me. You get it?
Don Hahn
No, I agree with that, too. But when they have different guys in the lineup, you got Goldsmith, you got Ballinger, and Rice is more of a guy in the lineup and Dominguez is in the lineup. So hopefully it's going to be different. Yeah, you want it to be different. But it wasn't. I'm fundamentally with. Because the Yankees played a miserable month and a half last year. Still went to the World Series. But I'm sorry, we do three and a half to four hours of radio every single day. The Yankees and Mets are very important to this town. I just can't go on the air every day and say it's only June. Let's talk about, you know, training minicamp and football or last night's Stanley Cup Final. That's not how it works. We got to break it down. And it's not just a slump. When the Yankees are in a six game stretch of five runs scored for the first time since 1968 or zero.
Peter Rosenberg
Runs over the last 29 innings.
Don Hahn
29 innings without a run. The New York Yankees. And by the way, in some of those innings they were gifted a runner in scoring position and extra innings with the Manford Man. That's a great point. And still couldn't score. First team in the history of baseball to be shut out three consecutive games and strike out more than 10 times in each game. So it's more than just a slump. It is something that, hey, it's not the end of the world, but it's kind of something to pay attention to. Keith in the car. You're on ESPN New York.
D
Hey, guys, how you doing?
Don Hahn
Good. How are you?
D
Pretty good. Just got a quick one of basketball reference with Beavis and Butthead. They were watching a Grace Jones video. And Butthead goes, who's that? Grace Jones? And Beavis goes, no, Grace Jones sings better than all. No, I messed the joke.
Don Hahn
Darn it. What did you do?
D
They were watching Grace Jones. And one of them goes, who's that? My new bowl.
Don Hahn
And the other one goes, now my new bowl Sitting's better than that.
Alan Hahn
Oh, why would they go after Grace Jones like this?
Peter Rosenberg
Because it's what they did on those shows.
Don Hahn
Kind of what they do.
Alan Hahn
It is. It is what they do.
Don Hahn
And cool wasn't right. Things that entertain people entertained me. We were at Sports Phone. We'd have all the games on satellite and there'd be that one TV that it would have MTV on. They actually showed videos and then you. And then the Real World and Beavis and.
Peter Rosenberg
But they would watch videos, which at least you just got to see some videos. I never, while they talked about it.
Alan Hahn
Was never a Beavis and Butthead.
Peter Rosenberg
Butthead.
Don Hahn
I wouldn't say I was a Beavis of Butthead guy, but it was, it was funny sometimes.
Alan Hahn
I never, I never really kept it on. I shot you.
Peter Rosenberg
I was obsessed.
Alan Hahn
No, that seems about right.
Peter Rosenberg
I know, I know, right, Exactly. Pretty much on brand. Right?
Alan Hahn
Yeah.
Don Hahn
I absolutely ran success with them.
Alan Hahn
Someone who's not very bright.
Don Hahn
Oh, yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
I just found that weak minded. Laugh at silly things.
Alan Hahn
Yeah. Just a child.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, absolutely.
Alan Hahn
There was. They. They had the album.
Don Hahn
Well, they had the movie. Do America, Butthead Do America.
Alan Hahn
Do America.
Peter Rosenberg
Which was amazing.
Alan Hahn
There was a Christmas album.
Peter Rosenberg
