Peter Rosenberg
Don.
Sid Rosenberg
I had never seen holes like that before.
Peter Rosenberg
Han. I'm not comfortable touching it. I'm not. No. And Rosenberg.
Alan Hahn
I'm not breastfeeding. No, but I.
Peter Rosenberg
That's too bad.
Sid Rosenberg
This isn't North Dakota. This is New York.
Peter Rosenberg
This is Don Hahn and Rosenberg. The best threesome I've ever heard on 8 80, ESPN and the ESPN New York app. On a Monday in New York City. It feels like spring, boys. Finally.
Alan Hahn
I mean finally.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, your mic. Your mic needs Viagra. Poor Peter. Look at this. That Mike had a bit. Had a long weekend.
Alan Hahn
Oh yeah, really?
Peter Rosenberg
Do you see this thing? Completely limp.
Alan Hahn
It's completely limp. Yeah, no, it's. It's sore. It's spring. Adjace.
Peter Rosenberg
It feels it.
Alan Hahn
But not, not quite spring. I mean it's for mid April. It's not impressive. Outside, it's. It's fine.
Peter Rosenberg
Sure. Yeah. Did you. How much time did you spend outside?
Alan Hahn
I've been outside all day.
Peter Rosenberg
I went. I went for a walk through Soho. Very busy. I guess a lot of the kids are off.
Alan Hahn
Oh, you know what it is now?
Peter Rosenberg
It's gorgeous.
Alan Hahn
It has now hit 65.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, it's gorgeous.
Sid Rosenberg
But the only reason we're celebrating is it was a miserable. I was able to salvage yesterday a little bit. The sun kind of peaked out. A little baseball with Marco.
Peter Rosenberg
Nice.
Sid Rosenberg
Friday, Saturday was God awful.
Peter Rosenberg
Friday, Friday. First of all, God bless the 55 people who actually went to Yankee stadium on Friday. Like that.
Alan Hahn
That, like how baseball.
Peter Rosenberg
How awful was that weather? Like, just come on. What's.
Sid Rosenberg
What's. Just prove what's the most amazing God bless you. Who went magic trick you've ever seen? Like who was. Was. Who was that one that made the Statue of Liberty disappear? Who was that again?
Peter Rosenberg
Was that Blaine? I don't know. Copperfield did it.
Sid Rosenberg
David.
Peter Rosenberg
I think it was Copperfield.
Sid Rosenberg
Yeah, but, but you brought up David Blaine. Walking on water in Vegas pales in comparison to the fact that they played that game on Friday. That was one of the great magic tricks of all time.
Peter Rosenberg
How they got that.
Sid Rosenberg
The fact that they got all three.
Peter Rosenberg
Of those games in determined.
Sid Rosenberg
Now, they didn't finish Friday, but they did get an official game. But just to do that so they cared about was terrific.
Peter Rosenberg
Prove me wrong.
Sid Rosenberg
Now, Yankee fans hope that they didn't play at least two of them because they lost the series. They've little quiet little secret about the New York Yankees. They're very fortunate that there's a lot of things going on in the world.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Sid Rosenberg
We're not focused on the fact that they've dropped four of five series to start the four of their last five series. And the only series they won was against the lowly Pirates.
Peter Rosenberg
You're right. You're Right.
Sid Rosenberg
Good. They're 8 and 7, but.
Peter Rosenberg
Right.
Sid Rosenberg
It just.
Peter Rosenberg
I don't love that. I don't. After the whole torpedo bat phenomenon, it has not looked good consistently. It hasn't. It has not been impressive. It has not been. Ben Rice is probably Anthony Wright. Would you say Ben Rice might be the one story that you feel really good about? Max Freed's last start. But Ben Rice is the one guy that I feel good about. Happy for him. What a great start he's been off to. Showing you some pop. Top of the lineup, you know, he belongs.
Sid Rosenberg
Right.
Peter Rosenberg
All right. Great story.
Sid Rosenberg
Two guys. Michael said it today. They don't have enough starting pitching right now.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, no. And they're going to wear out that bullpen.
Sid Rosenberg
They're going to wear it out. You know, I'm really excited about the Mets 10 and 5 and only the top three guys are hitting. And Soto isn't hitting to the capabilities you know he's capable of. And yet they're finding ways to win series and they're 10 and 5 and you feel pretty good about it. So that. That's the baseball of it all. But I know you guys are itching. You guys scratching at your bellies. Right. You're ready to tear off that belt. Go to town on your golf.
Alan Hahn
You heard me, Tear off the belt.
Peter Rosenberg
It is so awkward. What's going on with you.
Alan Hahn
I mean, what am I supposed to do?
Peter Rosenberg
This is so awkward.
Alan Hahn
This is the only way it'll, like, stay upright.
Peter Rosenberg
I know, but I don't like the visual neither the visuals. Can I show you it? Let me just.
Alan Hahn
I don't want to see it.
Peter Rosenberg
I'm going to take a picture anyway. I promise I won't put this on social media.
Alan Hahn
This is not what I want, but.
Sid Rosenberg
This put on social media. I think our audience needs to know what's happening.
Peter Rosenberg
The visual, Don. Let me see.
Sid Rosenberg
It's not what you want.
Peter Rosenberg
This is not what you want?
Alan Hahn
No, it's not great. I don't feel great about it. But I will say that was, you know, listen, I'm not just trying to get Don's goat. The Masters yesterday was as compelling, about as compelling as sports can be. It's. It's whether. Whether golf's your cup of tea or not, the storyline of Rory trying to get his first jacket and the way he just kept being right there, then blowing it, then finding his way back, then eventually winning in a playoff and with different competitive, with different people having a chance to take him out, and in the end, him having the perseverance to hold on. It was dead sexy. I'm sorry, guys. It was.
Peter Rosenberg
I watched for the train wreck. I'll be the first one to admit it. I'm a big, you know, majors Sunday, 5pm Now I'll. Now I'm in. I cannot do the whole afternoon. Unless, of course, it's raining in New York and I'm. It's beautiful. Wherever they're playing and I got nothing to do. You know, maybe then I'll do it because it's great napping. I mean, does anyone else have. Jim Nance has the best nap voice possible, right?
Sid Rosenberg
Oh, he's right up there. Does he take that as a compliment?
Peter Rosenberg
It's tremendous. Like, you talk about just that voice, the birds chirping, just. Everything was so perfect for sleeping. But anyways, I'm driving home after the Nick game and I got Zerbiak in the car with me. He's a huge golf guy. Right away he's like, get the Masters app. Put it on. So we put it on and we're just playing it in the car and I drop him off and I'm heading home. Now I'm in. Now I'm locked in because. How much did you really feel, Peter? As much as you were rooting for the story of Rory McIlroy finally getting the Masters, that was the elusive major for him, giving him the career grand slam. He's one of what, six now? Is he one of six or one of five to ever die?
Alan Hahn
Five or six.
Sid Rosenberg
So.
Peter Rosenberg
But there was that part of me that's going, this is going to be a train wreck again for him because he had the four shot lead. Then it starts to go away. He. He doubled that, that. What was it, the 13th? And all of a sudden now we're back and Justin Rose had no pressure on him. None. You had to feel like, this thing's good. He's going to have another meltdown. Six it was. Yeah, he's the. He's a. He's a one of six. It's. It was so compelling from that standpoint. I was caught up in. Is he really going to blow this?
Alan Hahn
Well, I mean, and remember, to his credit, remember, the day starts. The day starts, and you're going, all right.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, him and his enemy.
Alan Hahn
You're saying, can Bryson. Can Bryson make a thing of this? And out of the gate, Rory says he absolutely can because he double bogeys the first. And now we're going to have DeChambeau and. And Rory DeChambeau turns into hot garbage.
Peter Rosenberg
He went tin cup on us.
Alan Hahn
Which, by the way, I have one. I have one thing to blame when it comes to DeChambeau's failure.
Peter Rosenberg
What's that?
Alan Hahn
Whatever Liv thinks they're doing with his. The logo that he wears. I mean, that thing is horrible. What is that? That's his. That's his Liv logo.
Peter Rosenberg
No, I know, and it's awful. It looks like a. Like a. Like a Division 3 college team mascot.
Alan Hahn
Or like a double A baseball team.
Peter Rosenberg
It's very much Savannah Bananas.
Alan Hahn
It's very Savannah Banana. And to know that you're up against Rory, who, by the way, correct me if I'm wrong, this version of Rory walking down that fairway, he reminds me so much of Tiger physically. His body type, he has become the juiced up, like, nerdy, juiced up, Nike wearing. He's Tiger now.
Peter Rosenberg
And similar to Tiger, he wears his emotions, like when he walks, even.
Alan Hahn
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
Like, you could tell when he. When he. That. That ridiculous hook he hit on what, 17? Insane. All of a sudden he had the strut going well, but then the arms were a little flexed. But when he doubled, like, how meek did he look walking where he. His head was out of it at that point? It was unbelievable. It was great theater. It really was.
Alan Hahn
But he also has now and again, I'm joking. I'm joking about the juicing with Tiger and with Rory.
Sid Rosenberg
I'm.
Alan Hahn
I'm Jo.
Sid Rosenberg
I'm joking.
Alan Hahn
I'm joking.
Sid Rosenberg
I'm joking a little bit.
Alan Hahn
But he now has that ability, like Tiger developed to, like, oh, I'm in trouble. Let me just hit a drive 330 yards real quick, get myself back in this thing. And in the end, it was awesome to watch. And also, he does seem like. I think Don would even agree as someone who could give two rats, you know, what's about the sport. By all accounts, Rory seems like a lovely guy. He's a really easy guy. To root for. So I. You know something about Rory. I don't know.
Peter Rosenberg
No, no, no. I'm just saying. You're right. But it didn't sound like it seemed though he. It's very genuine at the end. The emotion. That was good to see. But man, like the putting, like there was so many moments where you just kept thinking, like if he can hit this and finally it's over. Nope. He can hit this finally. Nope. And by the way, how many chances. Like Don famously said once. How many chances you get? 4. I mean four double bogeys in one round. Like that's never happened for a champion. That's for a master channel. It's never happened before. Everything that could go wrong went wrong. And the perseverance allowed him. And then also cuz Rose couldn't Putt, you know, DeChambeau, like you said, he fell to pieces. Oberg was so close put.
Alan Hahn
Look fresh fell in this garbage as well.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, he hung in for a minute, but it just set up for Rory to win it. No matter how hard he tried to lose it.
Alan Hahn
But then. So if for some reason you missed it. He starts the day with the double on one.
Peter Rosenberg
Then what a start.
Alan Hahn
Then all pars and birdies, threw 10. So he makes up the two gains another two heading into 11 that he bogeys pars 12, double bogey on 13, bogey on 14 before birdie on 15, birdie on 17 and the bogey on 18 to force the playoff. And then he turns around and immediately birdie's 18 on the next one to end it.
Peter Rosenberg
And that, by the way, the shot that just rolled. Oh my God, look at the six foot putt. What a shot.
Alan Hahn
And by the way, it's not like Rose hit a terrible shot. Rose hit a good shot.
Peter Rosenberg
He had a good shot.
Alan Hahn
And then Rory of course drops it within five feet of the pin.
Peter Rosenberg
Tremendous. Don, I know you were captivated.
Sid Rosenberg
I didn't watch a second. It didn't even occur to me to turn it on.
Alan Hahn
Didn't even.
Peter Rosenberg
We were in the group chat. There was no curiosity.
Sid Rosenberg
I started seeing you guys were all giddy. Yeah, I. I put the phone away. Oh, I was watching the Mets.
Peter Rosenberg
Wait, weirdo. You are sports savant. You love sports. There was nothing that made you cur.
Sid Rosenberg
Not even a thing.
Peter Rosenberg
Just like these guys are into this must be something going on.
Sid Rosenberg
This isn't for effect. You guys know me.
Peter Rosenberg
I know, but still, zero.
Sid Rosenberg
I mean, if something is.
Peter Rosenberg
You love sports.
Sid Rosenberg
Didn't even occur to me how. Because it's not. It's not. There's nothing I care about. I don't care about golf. I don't golf. But you don't have to golf.
Peter Rosenberg
This is a sports moment, though.
Sid Rosenberg
No, I don't care. I'm watching the Mets. I'm a Met fan. I figured we're going to talk about the Mets.
Peter Rosenberg
Did you watch the World Cup? World Cup? Soccer. I know, you know when he's here.
Alan Hahn
When he's at the station.
Sid Rosenberg
If it's on, I'll watch it.
Peter Rosenberg
If it's on. If, if it was the championship, your home on a Sunday. Are you watching it? Yes. Like, that's not. You don't play soccer. That's not your thing.
Sid Rosenberg
I know, but it's a team sport. There's countries involved. I, I, this is an individual. Good for Roy.
Peter Rosenberg
Wimbledon, Wimbledon.
Sid Rosenberg
Why would I be so invested in an individual success?
Peter Rosenberg
Wimbledon final. Nothing.
Sid Rosenberg
Zero.
Peter Rosenberg
No movement.
Alan Hahn
US Open, too well.
Sid Rosenberg
Jimmy Connors had his thing in 93 when Agassi was going a little kooky because it was entertaining.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, that was.
Sid Rosenberg
Yeah, there's something. Tennis, to me is a lot more entertaining than golf. They're doing something I, I'm, no, I'm not doing so. Dude, I just, I got hit.
Peter Rosenberg
Ridiculous.
Sid Rosenberg
Good hook. What do I do? Rory McElroy jersey. You don't have to put a jersey on.
Peter Rosenberg
It's a sporting event.
Sid Rosenberg
I didn't know.
Peter Rosenberg
You're crazy.
Sid Rosenberg
I know everything that happened because I know it's going to get come up in conversation, but I'm not going to research. If you're a golf guy, do you really want Don LeGracka breaking it down for you?
Peter Rosenberg
Nobody said break it down.
Sid Rosenberg
I was like, stop it. Well, you don't care either, but you got to get caught up. I'm owning this. I'm not mad at you guys. I'm obviously the loser. No, I don't say that either. I could not find any energy.
Alan Hahn
Can't wait. I will watch every.
Sid Rosenberg
I was. It wasn't even a process. I'm telling you. It's not even me playing the role. I'm protesting. I hate golf. It's pretentious, all those things. I didn't have any interest at all. The Mets were playing a game against the A's. Sitting there watching it with my son between innings. I'm running outside. Ooh, the sun's out for the first time since dinosaurs made it. I'm gonna go play. I'm gonna go play baseball with him. Watching the Yankees, Yankees, Giants. That's what I do. I'm a baseball guy on a Saturday. I'm not a golf guy.
Alan Hahn
Listen, I can't.
Sid Rosenberg
Good for Rory, good for his family. Go celebrate. What do I care? It's almost like somebody across the street got married. That's nice. Was I invited?
Peter Rosenberg
No, no, it's just nothing like it.
Sid Rosenberg
How is it nothing like it?
Peter Rosenberg
Because it's a marriage. Major sporting event.
Sid Rosenberg
To you it was. To me, it's nothing. Honestly, what do I have to do to forward my life talking on this show? No one cares about golf. You don't care. Peter doesn't care. All of a sudden, the Masters aren't supposed to care because of the stupid flowers and Jim Nance don't care.
Peter Rosenberg
No, the flowers are pretty.
Sid Rosenberg
Doesn't matter to me. And I'm not going to pretend all of a sudden it does.
Peter Rosenberg
The grass bottle.
Sid Rosenberg
There's never been a history. As much as I'm not a big college basketball guy, I can give you chapter and verse of times that I've been so invested. And from a professional standpoint, and also from a personal standpoint, I've given zero to golf. It's given nothing to me. I'm out. I don't care. And it's not a protest. I really, honestly don't care.
Peter Rosenberg
So it's okay then? If you're not interested in a sport and it doesn't matter, but it matters to a lot of people, but not to you. And you're like, look, I don't care. I'm not watching. I didn't watch it. And that's it. You're good with that?
Alan Hahn
That's it.
Peter Rosenberg
You don't hold that against anybody at all?
Sid Rosenberg
Well, it depends on what you do. I mean, obviously, if it's the World Series and the Yankees are playing the Dodgers and you tell me you're out, then you got to figure out something else to do for a living. I don't listen. We don't talk golf ever. All of a sudden I'm supposed to care about the Masters because it's so beautiful and they charge a dollar for.
Alan Hahn
It's not about that.
Sid Rosenberg
No, that's exactly what it's about. Because if Rory did it at the pga, no one would care. We wouldn't open the show with it. Stop it.
Alan Hahn
You really don't think so?
Sid Rosenberg
No.
Peter Rosenberg
That was the last major he needed.
Sid Rosenberg
To win in in Scotland. Is it the Open?
Peter Rosenberg
No.
Sid Rosenberg
But all of a sudden, the Masters, because they got the beautiful flowers, and we just completely forget about the sexism and racism, and then all of a sudden, we're gonna have to talk about it because, oh, that's where Norman melted down and that's where, oh, Jack had the big win in 86. Oh, that tiger did this. And, oh, they got a green jacket and all Augusta and they charged 50 cents for a Coke. And, and you don't. You're not allowed to bring in your phone. How great is it? You don't have to bring in your phone.
Peter Rosenberg
Don't forget about it.
Sid Rosenberg
It's just so beautiful.
Peter Rosenberg
Amen.
Sid Rosenberg
Corner, capture the moment. You're all a bunch of nerds, okay? I don't care. And at least I got the guts to admit it because there are a lot of people that don't care even more, less than I do. But they're all said, oh, it was so beautiful to see the greed of the grass and how Rory fought back. If that was at the Open, nobody stayed up till 3 o'clock in the morning to watch it. Stop yourself. All of a sudden it's the Masters because you've been told it's important. I don't. I did. I was watching a Mets. You know why? Because I do sports talk in New York and we're gonna talk Mets and I talk Yankees because I watch the Yankees.
Peter Rosenberg
All right?
Sid Rosenberg
Even, even the stupid Ned Nick game where Bridges goes out there for six seconds to keep a stupid. I'm watching. You know why? Because of what I do for a living. But I draw the line of golf. And if that makes me a bad guy, then I'm Satan.
Peter Rosenberg
You think that six seconds, by the way, should that count as a game?
Sid Rosenberg
No, it shouldn't. It's a joke. But I watched it.
Peter Rosenberg
You watched six seconds. You know, I'll tell you what I missed. The enthusiasm. I missed all six seconds. I gotta be honest with you. We were walking out of the studio because when we finished that little segment before tip off, we walk out of the studio, they take the, all the, all the stuff off, the microphones and everything. I sit down and watch the game. He's already out of the game.
Sid Rosenberg
Honestly, I. Honestly. Peter, look at me. Look at me. You look great today. I'm not sure why.
Alan Hahn
I don't think so.
Sid Rosenberg
Look at me.
Alan Hahn
Go ahead.
Sid Rosenberg
You're not looking.
Peter Rosenberg
Wow. Yeah, I don't think so.
Sid Rosenberg
If that's the US Open.
Alan Hahn
Yeah.
Sid Rosenberg
Are we opening the show?
Alan Hahn
So hold on, let me hear me out.
Peter Rosenberg
Go ahead.
Alan Hahn
For if it was me, right. Any of the four majors, the Open Championship being the least of the four. Well, the PJ should be the least, but it's not. But it's just because of the American soil part. For whatever reason, if it were me and Rory, who is frankly the biggest star in the game post Tiger woods, were to win any of those things in that dramatic a fashion. A fashion. If I were making the call on what we were doing, it would be right at the top of the show.
Sid Rosenberg
But you wouldn't fight the way this. And I'm not even fighting it.
Peter Rosenberg
I'm not the way.
Sid Rosenberg
I've argued once that this was the Open.
Peter Rosenberg
Let me add.
Sid Rosenberg
But you asked me a question and I answered.
Peter Rosenberg
Let me add the. The caveat though, which is what drew me in the Grand Slam.
Alan Hahn
That's a pretty big deal too, that part. That's a pretty big deal.
Peter Rosenberg
Even if it wasn't pga. If the PGA was the tournament that he could never win. And he had a history of melting down. And then here's this PGA and he has this crazy where like Peter said, you hope the first hole's a double bogey. Like, how are you starting your day off on the final day like that? That's sending you right into the usual meltdown that we're used to seeing. But then he fights back. Then he gives it away. Then he fights back again. He gives it away. That was a Rocky movie. And somehow he ended up with the win and then he got the Grand Slam. Six human beings in the history of life have done that.
Alan Hahn
That's pretty good.
Peter Rosenberg
That's why it's a compelling sports story.
Sid Rosenberg
I don't care.
Peter Rosenberg
It has nothing to do with where it was, Augusta and all that stuff.
Sid Rosenberg
I am on a mountain top by myself. It's not a mountain, but I'm just being a hill. Me.
Alan Hahn
No, listen.
Sid Rosenberg
But I went bigger. I exaggerated it.
Alan Hahn
Now listen, I Than a hill.
Sid Rosenberg
It's a mountain.
Alan Hahn
I have no problem with Don not being interested.
Peter Rosenberg
I do. I have a big problem with it.
Alan Hahn
I don't big problem. I do whatever anyone should have. Whatever sports interest.
Peter Rosenberg
This is the same guy that said wish you loved the sport like I.
Sid Rosenberg
Did about hobby, but I don't bother.
Peter Rosenberg
You begging people to watch hockey.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, but he never would try to say to someone it's important or deserves an Open if he doesn't think that people care.
Sid Rosenberg
Yeah, I think people care. Let's be realistic. I was at the meeting. 2:30. Did I say this is the obvious Open? This is what people want to talk about? I never said no one care. I'm not going to go there. I know a lot of people care.
Peter Rosenberg
How much do people care? 809.193776 column in the Bronx, longtime listener, always keeps it real column. How'd you feel about all this?
Alan Hahn
Honestly, I don't give a damn about golf. I'm completely on with Don. Listen, I grew up, I grew up in the Bronx. To me personally, you know, I always considered golf a rich, a rich white man sport. If you got to pay a lot of money to go play a sport.
Peter Rosenberg
Go meet me on. Go meet me at a basketball court.
Alan Hahn
Where it's free and I could go pick up games with anybody.
Sid Rosenberg
Now, I am an Irish.
Peter Rosenberg
I am Irish.
Alan Hahn
My father was born in Ireland. I got a lot of family in Ireland. I love the fact that Rory McElroy.
Sid Rosenberg
An Irishman, won it.
Alan Hahn
I was all for that, but I.
Peter Rosenberg
Didn'T watch a lick of it. And I'll take it a step further than Don. I don't even consider golf a sport.
Alan Hahn
Golf to me is a recreational activity.
Peter Rosenberg
On the same level as cornhole dart.
Sid Rosenberg
That Frisbee golf game where you throw it into the chain.
Peter Rosenberg
It's not a sport.
Alan Hahn
That's.
Peter Rosenberg
That's a take.
Alan Hahn
That's a hot take.
Peter Rosenberg
That's a. That's a take call.
Alan Hahn
I'm just admit it though. That's a take. That's not deep down.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, no, I'm.
Alan Hahn
I'm way further than anybody else. Like, I don't think Don would even make the argument it's not a sport. It's just not a sport he's interested in.
Sid Rosenberg
Yeah, I do think it's a lot closer to pool.
Peter Rosenberg
It's closer to pool and darts.
Sid Rosenberg
I said, claude, it's not. Because you do have to. But they were riding around in carts. Then it would be full blown pool.
Alan Hahn
But even.
Sid Rosenberg
But there is a stamina that goes into walking 18 holes and all that stuff. I'm not going there. Robin used to do that was a Robin Lumberg thing. It's not a sport.
Alan Hahn
Right. It's absolutely a sport. That's an insane thing.
Sid Rosenberg
I gotta get there because I watch NASCAR and I lost interest because I just didn't have anybody to root for because again, I'm not rooting for a guy.
Peter Rosenberg
You're not going to give me the whole. All they do is just, you know, left turns the whole time. You're not going to do that, are you? Because you'll set me out of the room.
Sid Rosenberg
I think that takes athleticism to have that kind of hand eye coordination and that stamina to sit in a car that's 100 degrees going 150 miles speed.
Peter Rosenberg
Reaction time all those things.
Sid Rosenberg
I'm just telling you that I. But I do think the one thing I will stand. I do think you get a little hoodwink because it's the Masters, because you're told it's important.
Alan Hahn
Well, no, no.
Peter Rosenberg
But it is neither.
Sid Rosenberg
You guys are big top.
Peter Rosenberg
It's a major.
Alan Hahn
But real quick, real quick. I love golf. I do not play a lot of golf. Last year I didn't get out.
Peter Rosenberg
I wish I could. I don't have time.
Alan Hahn
I didn't get out last year at all. Most years I get out five or six times. Right. I'm not. I'm not huge golfer. Part of it is what's built up about it. But also I'll push back against Don. That's true of every major sports event. The lore of the every. The Fall Classic, the. The super bowl, everything has lore that's heaped on.
Sid Rosenberg
This is. This is too much.
Alan Hahn
This. I get it. I'm not saying it's got lore.
Sid Rosenberg
We don't talk about how beautiful the grass is.
Alan Hahn
Well, we do.
Sid Rosenberg
Well, then the beers are cheaper than our MetLife.
Alan Hahn
Lambo does football, but Lambeau does get a lot.
Sid Rosenberg
That was John Fasenda, like 60 years.
Peter Rosenberg
But that lasted forever.
Alan Hahn
It's still a big deal. Yeah, lore is a thing. But I love the Masters. It's the perfect storm. The fact that it's always at the same place. The fact that you end up memorizing the course and you know what it looks like and you know what it sounds like, you still can't beat it. All of it is a thing that's very comforting. And if you're someone who enjoys golf at all, there's something truly lovely.
Sid Rosenberg
And I don't and you don't.
Alan Hahn
And that's why I'm not going to try to convince.
Don LaGreca

Bombas makes the most comfortable socks, underwear and T shirts.
Alan Hahn
Bombas are so absurdly comfortable you may throw out all your other clothes.
Sid Rosenberg
Sorry, do we legally have to say that?
Alan Hahn
No, this is just how I talk. And I really love my Bombas.
Peter Rosenberg
They do feel that good. And they do good too.

Thanks for listening to the Don Hahn and Rosenberg podcast.
Alan Hahn
I didn't listen to anything you just said.
Peter Rosenberg
Catch the show on demand whenever you want. Just subscribe to us wherever you get your podcasts. All right, so let's see if the people side with Don or they side with myself and Peter. 800-919-3776 Subium Midtown Subi yeah, I was.
Sid Rosenberg
Wondering why Don doesn't like the Masters.
Alan Hahn
Specifically because it reminded me of Happy Gilmore.
Sid Rosenberg
You know, there was a lot of intrigue going in.
Alan Hahn
And then, especially during the final round, Rory was collapsing. But at the same time, you know.
Sid Rosenberg
He was hitting all these unique shots. That's what makes the golf so unique.
Peter Rosenberg
They make it look really easy.
Sid Rosenberg
And I Think Don needs to play.
Alan Hahn
Like a round of golf.
Sid Rosenberg
Played once in Burbank, California. I was a mess. I was like. I was like 200 over, but on 18. Wait a minute. On 18, gorgeous. Shot under a tree. Rolled, lipped out, tapped it in. Said, I'm never playing this again. That was 1997. Oh, my God, I'm good. But listen, I just find it interesting you hear it all. Like, I was into the Four Nations. I know Michael didn't watch. I know there's a lot of people didn't care. Good on you. You missed something cool. I obviously missed something cool. But I'm all right. It doesn't mean I gotta go, I gotta play. I'm not all of a sudden gonna stumble upon it and find it. I have covered tournaments. When Norman melted down, it was at 96. I was at Sportsphone then. I was on it. Listen, I threw out the facts, right? Nicholas. Jack. Nicholas. In 86, the age of what, 46. Went in the mask. So, listen, I do my due diligence, but you can't make me be interested.
Peter Rosenberg
No, we can't force you to.
Sid Rosenberg
No, just.
Peter Rosenberg
We can still try to figure out why Griffin in Connecticut. What's up, Griff? Hey, guys.
Sid Rosenberg
No, I'm not interested. I didn't flip it on one bit.
Peter Rosenberg
I ended up watching what was Almost a game 7 feel like caliber Game. Warriors, Clippers. My God, Alan, you're a basketball Shabbat. You're. You love basketball. That game was so exciting yesterday and Alan didn't watch that.
E
What were you really, Allen, I can't believe you.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, Blame Wally Zerbiak because he wanted to. He wanted that more than anything else. We were keeping an eye on that score just to see where it was and it went to overtime. And yeah, I will admit, Griffin, I did later on go back on league pass and just watch it back. So I. I do know how he.
Alan Hahn
Just lied to all of us right there.
Peter Rosenberg
I'm telling you, I watched the end of that game.
Alan Hahn
In the overtime, you went back on Lee pass.
Peter Rosenberg
You didn't just read.
Alan Hahn
You didn't just go.
Peter Rosenberg
No, I watched it back.
Sid Rosenberg
Yeah, look at me.
Peter Rosenberg
I watched it back. All right, this morning.
Alan Hahn
You think so?
Sid Rosenberg
That's enough for me.
Peter Rosenberg
Absolutely. What I do.
Sid Rosenberg
I'm shocked. I got. I do think shocked.
Peter Rosenberg
I once I saw that the game.
Sid Rosenberg
Was close, I think a lot of people had to go back and see yard the game. I watched it when I got home. Lies.
Peter Rosenberg
Curry hit it.
Sid Rosenberg
Would you admit 80% of the time people say that it's a lie.
Peter Rosenberg
Not me. If I didn't see, I didn't see it. But a lot of times when I see something that I know, I. Here's the thing. You can't fake it. When you're on national TV and you got to talk about a team and you didn't watch it.
Sid Rosenberg
That's right. You're on get up.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, I got. I'm on three days this week.
Sid Rosenberg
TV you got now when you're on Poduk local radio.
Peter Rosenberg
You just took all the pressure off Don and put it on me. Thanks, Griff. Listen, but the whole point is like you got to know what, what happened this context in the play by.
Sid Rosenberg
But I, I wanted to back Peter up because I think a lot of times when that said in this business, they're lying.
Peter Rosenberg
They didn't really watch it.
Alan Hahn
I want it back. I had to go back and watch.
Peter Rosenberg
Here's the thing. Like I hear so many people say they watched it back. So I thought, okay, you have to do that. So I started doing it. Like all the football, all our NFL people, espn, that's all they do. Orlofsky spends his whole like freaking Tuesday. All he does is watch games. What's it, the 11 on 11, whatever that's called, right? They watch that.
Sid Rosenberg
Were you on get up this morning?
Peter Rosenberg
No, I'm not on till Wednesday. Wednesday, Thursday, Friday.
Sid Rosenberg
I was gonna say because if you did that because of get up, you wasted your time. Cause I'm sure they were like knee.
Peter Rosenberg
Greeny loves the Masters.
Sid Rosenberg
Came in with a wedding dress, ready to actually consummate the marriage with.
Peter Rosenberg
I will get. I will say though they did begin with NBA. He got to start to show the 9 o'clock hour went right to Masters.
Sid Rosenberg
I was there to. What? Just because it's the last day.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, that game and there was all. Now we know who's going to play whom in the matchups. And they get, you know, to get your. Your first take on it, no pun intended. These people, these Marcus Morris back in, in town, he was on the show this morning.
Alan Hahn
These football players who have to watch like every single minute to be able to have good take football.
Peter Rosenberg
But he's saying it's not, it's not hidden.
Alan Hahn
No, no, no. They do a great job. I'm just saying I get, you know, listen, not everyone's a natural broadcaster, right?
Sid Rosenberg
So you.
Alan Hahn
So you have to do some more work. I could. I.
Peter Rosenberg
If I watch, I put myself in that category. I have to put more work in.
Alan Hahn
Maybe because I swear to God, guys, If I watch 90 seconds of a game. You would think. You would think. I went to the game. I sat front row. You bet Peter took it. Wow, you were locked in.
Peter Rosenberg
So you're fake it till you make it.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, if I did. Fifteen seconds, a quarter. Give me, give me. If I just. Guys, if I ever come in one day and you're like, wow, let me.
Peter Rosenberg
Watch the IG story and I can tell you everything you want to know about the game.
Alan Hahn
Peter did that game, chapter and verse. You know what that means? It means I watched SportsCenter. He watched SportsCenter.
Sid Rosenberg
He watches those games the way Miles Bridges played in the game against Brooklyn yesterday.
Peter Rosenberg
Mikhail.
Sid Rosenberg
Yeah, but I say or let Miles play, too.
Alan Hahn
Why can't he get me?
Peter Rosenberg
Miles is in Charlotte.
Don LaGreca
But.
Peter Rosenberg
But not. But. Point taken. I just didn't want the. Well, you come and get you lake and Spokane lake.
E
Hey, guys, how's it going?
Peter Rosenberg
What's happening?
E
I got two quick golf points, and then I have a question for you. First off, the caller saying that golf isn't a sport, absolutely ridiculous. If you look at that final pairing between Rory and Bryson, those guys are athletes. Sure, it's a sport where the John Daly's of the world can be successful, but you know, those guys are athletes. They put a lot of time and work into their body. Secondly, Don, I don't. I totally respect that you don't care. I'm not a big hockey guy, but I was watching Obi. I was sitting in church watching Obi score that goal. So even though you don't really care, I hope you can at least respect that. You know, this has only happened six times. Three of those happened before integration happened.
Sid Rosenberg
So that's why I'm not going to go where it's not a sport. I kind of go after how people get giddy over the Masters. I do think that there's a manipulation there. But no, I have all the respect for the guys to go out there and do it. And what Rory McAvoy, Roy McElroy was able to accomplish, it's just not for me. But I'm not going to ever disrespect what they do or what Tiger did or any of that stuff.
Peter Rosenberg
It just doesn't. It doesn't draw you in. Right. That's as simple as that.
E
And that's fair. And I think I actually do agree with Don as well a little bit that I think if this was a different major and not the Masters, I don't know that it would be as big of a story. I think it'd still be a big story. Anyway, my question for you guys, mostly for Peter and Alan. Tiger kind of had his redemption a couple years ago coming back from injury, winning that Masters. Really cool moment. Which was more compelling for you guys from a fan perspective? That kind of Tiger redemption or Rory finally battling through these mental struggles and getting the job done? Thanks for the call.
Peter Rosenberg
Thanks, Lake. What would you say, Peter?
Alan Hahn
That's not even fair. It's always going to be Tiger.
Peter Rosenberg
The Tiger story just feels more universal and knowing everything that he went through, through to get back to that point.
Alan Hahn
Tiger is impressive. As I love Rory, I think he's a really good golfer. For whatever reason, I don't think any of us can quite put our finger on it. The drop off in terms of compelling between Tiger and who's ever next. There's multiple levels. It's like I respect to Rory Bryson, Justin Rose, Scotty Scheffler, all these guys. The gap is monumental in terms of interest. It's just. But it was the most I've cared about a major that had no Tiger involvement ever. Like, I was locked in from Thursday. By the time Saturday came around, I had it on all day. We were preparing for Passover with the family, and I just had the golf on all day. Couldn't wait for Sunday.
Sid Rosenberg
No, I mean, just how excited you were on Thursday, leading in and just the text messages and everything. No, you were completely. So that was the most I've been in a while. Golf without Tiger.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, that was the most in I've been. And part of it is, by the way, what I love about the Masters is that, you know, I love how late it's gonna run on Sunday.
Peter Rosenberg
Yep.
Alan Hahn
You know, the leaders aren't coming out till 2:30 and that you get till 7:30. So, like, you can do things in the morning on your Sunday and still sit down to watch the last couple of groups.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Alan Hahn
If you want late, you can see the end. I always want to be in by the first few holes of the. Because, I mean, Alan, the beauty is if you show up by 2:30, that means you can get the nap and still watch at 5:00. You see what I'm saying?
Peter Rosenberg
That nap hits.
Alan Hahn
You get the nap. Oh, and you watch and then you wake up and what happened?
Peter Rosenberg
You're jarred awake it like it's the 12th hole. You like. Oh, here we go. Time, William. And Lodi wants to talk to Don. What's up, William? Hey, how you guys doing?
Sid Rosenberg
What's up, William? All right, I have one one a couple Things to say. First of all, I'm gonna say I agree with Don.
Peter Rosenberg
One hundred.
Sid Rosenberg
A hundred.
Peter Rosenberg
I cannot get into golf.
Sid Rosenberg
No, no, I can't say like. Like the other caller said that it's not a sport, but it. It is a sport, but it's not a sport to me. Now, I've been trying to get through for a while now.
Peter Rosenberg
I have a question for Don.
Sid Rosenberg
Go ahead, Don. Back in the day on a Michael K. Show, you talked about the meatball sandwich, and you and Michael went back and forth. I'm in New Jersey.
Peter Rosenberg
I'm in.
Sid Rosenberg
I'm in Lodi. Where do I get that meatball sandwich?
Alan Hahn
Here we go. Let's talk meat.
Sid Rosenberg
I was talking about meatball sandwich I got in Jersey. I don't remember the conversation.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, I remember.
Sid Rosenberg
You tell him, Michael.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, I had a meatball sandwich, and.
Sid Rosenberg
Michael came back and said, a meatball sandwich. Really? Nobody eats a meatball sandwich.
Alan Hahn
Okay, well, how about this, Don? Do you know a place in Jersey where you love a meatball sandwich?
Sid Rosenberg
There's a bunch of different places. I think. You know what I think the conversation was that I. I actually. It was a sandwich, not a. Not a hero or a hoagie, that I actually got, like, a kaiser roll. And I think it was. Nancy made it. Nancy makes the best meatballs. I don't know what she does, but her meatballs are fantastic. And I think what I did was, for lunch, back when I was in the repug day, Peter, is that I made a couple of meatball sandwiches, but I made them, like, on a kaiser roll, like a hamburger roll. I think that's what he was talking about. So it wasn't where I got it at a store. She made the meatballs that were leftover from spaghetti meatballs the night before. And I made a sandwich instead of a.
Peter Rosenberg
On a hammer.
Sid Rosenberg
Right.
Peter Rosenberg
Which is. Which is so old school. Yeah, it's so.
Sid Rosenberg
I think so.
Peter Rosenberg
William, there is. There is no place to get it. You just make it in your kitchen the way Don.
Sid Rosenberg
And honestly, I have had. I've been to fancy restaurants, great Italian restaurants. Nobody makes meatball the way Nancy does.
Alan Hahn
I love meatballs. Now, now, real quick, if you want to see a delicious meatball sandwich, there's a great episode of Carlin's Corner from a couple of weeks back where he broke down. I believe it was on a Lower east side. An les spot that has a fine meatball sandwich that Carlos into. Also, Carlin gave a fine hot dog. Jersey. Hot dog review. What are they called again?
Sid Rosenberg
Your Jersey Hot Dogs, Texas Wiener.
Peter Rosenberg
Wait, wait, that's right here. Anthony.
Sid Rosenberg
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
It's like six blocks down by West 4th.
Sid Rosenberg
We go there all the time.
Peter Rosenberg
Fayecos. Yeah.
Alan Hahn
Oh, you go there all the time?
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. Never been invited.
E
Well, we go to lunch around.
Peter Rosenberg
This is 12:31 o'clock. This is discussion. We gonna. We're gonna have that. We have. We have a family discussion about our lunch situation.
Alan Hahn
No one wants to call because I'm.
Peter Rosenberg
Always last to find out. Don never lets anybody in on what he's gonna do. By the time I get here, everybody else got their lunch and I'm like, oh, okay. I guess I'm left.
Sid Rosenberg
We gotta get more coordinated.
Peter Rosenberg
We don't know.
Alan Hahn
Well, now maybe Taco Tuesday, you know?
Sid Rosenberg
So Sauce tweeted he believes that the caller is confused that it wasn't about a meatball sandwich. It was about a meatloaf sandwich. The meatloaf sandwich to die for is Bogies Hoagies in Hawthorne. There we go.
Alan Hahn
We found it.
Peter Rosenberg
Bogies Hoagies.
Sid Rosenberg
And I gotta swing by there because I had to take a number. My number was 45. It's like a big obnoxious thing they give you that says 45 on it.
Peter Rosenberg
45.
Sid Rosenberg
And I had to wait for my sandwich. I got the sandwich. I forgot to give it to him. It's still in the pocket of my jacket. I gotta swing by and give it back to him. Otherwise they're missing 45.
Peter Rosenberg
I'll tell you what. Swing by, return it.
Sid Rosenberg
Right?
Peter Rosenberg
Three meatballs.
Alan Hahn
I can't until next week. Next week? I'm back after Wrestlemania. No, no, Hoagies for this.
Peter Rosenberg
You don't want to pop any buttons. I bro, I get it.
Alan Hahn
I'm wearing tuxedos all week.
Sid Rosenberg
Next week. I don't know politically which way Bogey's Hoagie swings. But that number might be very important to us, right?
Alan Hahn
Who knows? Could be a big one.
Peter Rosenberg
Good point.
Sid Rosenberg
Or maybe they won't miss it at all. It really.
Peter Rosenberg
We don't know. You're going to find out when you get there. But we need to get four of these. It's a three, four, five of these. @ some point.
Sid Rosenberg
The meatloaf. The meatloaf is really good. I love it. I grew up in that town. But you know who turned me onto it?
Alan Hahn
Oh, good.
Sid Rosenberg
Was Rick DiPietro.
Peter Rosenberg
Wow. How did he know about it?
Sid Rosenberg
DiPietro, about like seven, eight years ago, came and played at the Sasso charity softball. And he googled great places to have lunch. Bogies Hoagies came up and he Went there and he actually turned me onto it. And I grew up in that town, but when I was there, it wasn't there.
Alan Hahn
Let me get this straight. You go to the sasso softball game. Rick ends up getting a delicious meatball sandwich. I get an hour long ride back with Sid Rosenberg. That's the trade off that we. That we get here. This is unbelievable. Could I have gotten the hoagie?
Peter Rosenberg
You got a plan? Better.
Sid Rosenberg
Come on.
Peter Rosenberg
I love shit.
Sid Rosenberg
W didn't want to be a fly on the wall for that meeting, that drive back to the city.
Alan Hahn
You know what with two of the.
Sid Rosenberg
Most polar opposite Rosenbergs you're ever.
Alan Hahn
No. You know, we found plenty of common things to talk about. We found plenty of common things to. And you know, found some uncommon things to talk about, but still did. But that was a long time ago. I'm not sure how it would go today.
Sid Rosenberg
A lot happened since that day and today.
Alan Hahn
But a lot had happened up to it.
Sid Rosenberg
I gotta tell you, I still think he's a really good guy. I've always got along with Sam.
Alan Hahn
Hey, listen, everyone has their own. And by the way, now he does commercials on a radio station now him and I, I think if we were to sit down and do like a three hour podcast, we'd be different. A few things to say the least.
Sid Rosenberg
But doesn't it tell you that we. We can fight through the differences and no better example than that we actually.
Alan Hahn

Peter Rosenberg
Catch the show on demand whenever you want. Just subscribe to us wherever you get your podcasts. This is your theme song. Not only is it because it's meatloaf, which is what we were just talking about, but, you know, asking you to watch golf. And this is you saying, I just won't do that.
Sid Rosenberg
Just won't do that. I love this song.
Peter Rosenberg
I'll do anything for sports, but I won't do that.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, this has got a lot going.
Peter Rosenberg
On, this song at this moment, a lot of connection.
Alan Hahn
I would do anything for this show.
Peter Rosenberg
For example, but I would do anything.
Alan Hahn
But I won't do that. And it's meatloaf, and we're talking about a meatloaf. Think about that now.
Sid Rosenberg
Now I gotta ask Jay, but I think Jacob was just motivated by the.
Alan Hahn
Meatloaf on the sandwich.
Sid Rosenberg
Yeah, take the.
Peter Rosenberg
Jacob, you didn't. You didn't put it all together.
Alan Hahn
No, it's just the sandwich.
Peter Rosenberg
It was more so about the sandwich.
Don LaGreca
But it tied itself all together. It worked itself out as Don says it did.
Peter Rosenberg
You guys want a Yankee? Starting lineup brought to you by Certiflo Painters. You're not feeling it.
Sid Rosenberg
You're only eight and seven once.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, my God. Hopefully being twice, though, would be quite a.
Alan Hahn
That would be impressive.
Peter Rosenberg
All right, well, the aforementioned Ben Rice, who we've been raving about. It's the one good story. He will lead off again as the DH Aaron Judge in the two hole right field. Austin Wells will bat third. He's the catcher. Paul Goldschmidt. Goldie first base. Cleanup. Jazz Chisholm. He'll be playing second base. Anthony Volpe at short. Jason Dominguez left field. Trent Grisham at center field. Oswaldo Cabrera playing third. And Carlos Carrasco is your pitcher on the mound. Nothing gets you more fired up than Carlos Carrasco on the mound to start your series here.
Sid Rosenberg
Now, the Giants are really good, but, you know, you lost the series at home and it's not the only series you've lost so far this year. We're four the last and the weather sucked.
Peter Rosenberg
The first two days. They were pretty bad. Yeah, but it's been that feeling of the starting pitching hasn't been good enough. Warren was actually decent, but the starting pitching feels like something that we're starting to get worried about, especially with how much it's taxing the bullpen. That was the Yankee starting lineup. Brought to you by certapro Painters. When choosing a painting professional for your home or business, the choice is simple. Choose happy. Choose certapro Painters. Kendrick Perkins is going to join us in the 4 o'clock hour perk on what he thinks about the Knicks. Remember, he was a huge Knicks guy all season, thought this team was special. You know, he loves Jalen Brunson. But this matchup with the Pistons is definitely an interesting one. It's got everybody around the league thinking the Knicks might be in trouble.
Sid Rosenberg
But which is interesting because you had mentioned that the 6:00 tip on Saturday speaks volumes as far as, like, national interest. Why would that be? Two big markets, first time that they've played in what since 84 was the last time the Knicks and Pistons played no.
Peter Rosenberg
92. 92. They ended the bad boy era with that. They won that series in five.
Sid Rosenberg
And if people think that the Pistons are a real live dog here, why would there be a lack of interest?
Peter Rosenberg
Because it's still. There's not enough star power.
Sid Rosenberg
That's a shame.
Peter Rosenberg
Not enough star power. You got to think about. You got to think about your matchups.
Sid Rosenberg
I know, but I'm saying the fact that the star power would draw more eyeballs than an actual competitive series Here.
Peter Rosenberg
I'll give you the example. The whole weekend's going to begin. Saturday begins with Milwaukee and Indiana. 1:00 game. You know, that start the whole thing off Giannis, star power, maybe Lillard, I don't know. We haven't heard anything more. Pacers don't have a ton of star power. You know, they have Halliburton, but there really isn't a lot of juice there. But you have Giannis, so that's something, right?
Sid Rosenberg
Yes.
Peter Rosenberg
Clippers, Denver's your 330. That's a hell of a game. I mean, you got to think about it like that series is going to be worth watching on many levels. Jokic, a lot of star power. Harden, tons of star power. That's why you put Knicks Pistons at six. It's that six o'clock Saturday. You know, most people, if I, if I took in the first two games, I'm sitting that one out. Most of the country's not watching that. Right, right. You gotta. Because you're, you're 8:30 is Anthony Edwards and the Timberwolves versus LeBron James, Luka and the Lakers in a series that, that. I mean, it's teaming with star.
Sid Rosenberg
No, I get that right.
Peter Rosenberg
Sunday. I'll give you Sunday real quick. We don't know who's going to play Cleveland, but that's your 1:00 game. We don't know who's going to play Boston. That could be your 3:30. We don't know who's playing Oklahoma City. That could be your six because it's okc, as good as they are, best record in the league. They also are kind of lacking that draw. And then, you know, Houston, that could be Golden State. Houston, Houston. So Golden State. Steph Curry. Yeah, that's gonna get 8:30. That's gonna get your Sunday night. So it's all about the star power. So I think the broadcasting partners are looking at Knicks, Pistons and they go, meh. You know, yeah, it's the Knicks. It's big market, but we'll wait for them for the second round. I think that's what it really is about. I just don't think.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, I agree.
Peter Rosenberg
There's a sense of. There's a lot of juice in there.
Sid Rosenberg
But I just think from my standpoint, because I look at, from a hockey standpoint, listen, there's a lot of stars. But if you give me a competitive series, like that's what I'm looking for.
Peter Rosenberg
Because they're going to get them. They're going to get competitive series later, second round, you know, conference final. That's all going to be the competitive stuff. What you're trying to do in the first round, because a lot of time the first rounds aren't very competitive, is you're just looking to play the stars early, maximize the star power.
Alan Hahn
If you look at the Vegas odds, at least as of Friday.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Alan Hahn
Not only is Detroit, New York not particularly sexy, the Vegas odds still had it as New York winning an easy series, too. Now, we don't think that because we've been watching this team day in, day out.
Peter Rosenberg
That's, you know, why. That's why they're doing it. Big market. A lot of people are going to, you know, want to get some action and they'll, they'll play a lot. I think there'll be a lot of people betting against the Knicks.
Alan Hahn
Well, yeah, there's, there's.
Peter Rosenberg
What's Detroit? What are they. What are they getting?
Alan Hahn
It was. New York was like, what were they? Minus 6 or 600 or something? They were heavy favorites as of on Friday. I don't know where it landed right now, but they were pretty big favorites.
Peter Rosenberg
If you put, if you put 100 bucks on the Pistons. Right. Like, is that.
Sid Rosenberg
My guess is.
Alan Hahn
I'm going to guess that at this point, the pistons are plus 250. What are you seeing, Jake?
Peter Rosenberg
What do you got, Jake? Jake's our bookie.
Sid Rosenberg
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
I don't see nothing yet, but from what I saw on Friday, I think it was minus 360 for the Knicks to be favored to win. So, I mean, it's not that much of a. You don't put money in the Knicks. Yeah. No. You don't put money in the Knicks.
Alan Hahn
I'm going to ask Chad, CBT right now.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. Okay. You check that. But I mean, again, that's what I'm seeing. I'm seeing that there's not a sense that this has a lot of sizzle. That can change, though, if the Pistons come into the Garden on Saturday at 6 and punch the Knicks in the mouth. And now all of a sudden you get this.
Alan Hahn
Pistons are.
Peter Rosenberg
You get this like, oh, wait, this series might get real interesting. And that would make game two one that one of the networks is going.
Alan Hahn
To want to grab. The Knicks are minus 425 and the Pistons are plus 325.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Alan Hahn
Come on. The Knicks are heavy favorites in the series.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. There'll be a lot of people throwing a couple of bucks down on the Pistons just because you, you might think they could do this and that'll shake a lot of people if they lose game one. Lot of pressure on the Knicks. Thanks for listening to the Don Hahn and Rosenberg podcast. I don't want to know how the sausage is made, man. I just want to know what's good. Don, Hahn & Rosenberg – Hour 1: Masters Interest
Released on April 14, 2025
The episode opens with Don LaGreca promoting the Chevy Silverado ([00:01]-[00:28]). Once the advertisement concludes, hosts Peter Rosenberg, Sid Rosenberg, and Alan Hahn engage in light-hearted conversation about the arrival of spring in New York City. Peter enthusiastically remarks, "It feels like spring, boys. Finally." ([00:40]-[01:10]), while the team contrasts the current pleasant weather with the previous weekend's poor conditions, discussing how it has positively impacted local activities like baseball games.
Transitioning to baseball, the conversation centers on the New York Yankees' recent struggles. Sid Rosenberg expresses frustration, stating, "We're not focused on the fact that they've dropped four of their last five series" ([02:44]). Peter Rosenberg offers a glimmer of hope by highlighting Ben Rice's promising performance: "Ben Rice is the one guy that I feel good about. Happy for him. What a great start he's been off to." ([02:57]-[03:25]). The hosts analyze the team's pitching issues, noting concerns over inconsistent starting pitchers and the strain on the bullpen, while also acknowledging positive developments from emerging players.
A significant portion of the episode delves into the Masters golf tournament, focusing on Rory McIlroy's quest for his first Masters title. Alan Hahn commends McIlroy's perseverance, saying, "The storyline of Rory trying to get his first jacket...was dead sexy." ([04:23]-[05:02]). Peter Rosenberg shares his initial disinterest but admits to being captivated by key moments: "The shot that just rolled. Oh my God, look at the six-foot putt." ([10:25]-[11:00]). The hosts dissect McIlroy's emotional rollercoaster during the final round, including multiple double bogeys and his eventual triumphant playoff victory.
The discussion moves to comparisons between Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods, highlighting their physicality and emotional displays on the course. Peter observes, "Rory...reminds me so much of Tiger physically. His body type...like a nerdy, juiced-up Tiger now." ([07:39]-[08:00]). Alan Hahn adds, "He also has now and again, like Tiger developed to hit a drive 330 yards real quick," praising McIlroy's resilience and strategic play. The hosts commend McIlroy's ability to maintain composure under pressure, drawing parallels to Tiger's legendary performances.
A heated debate ensues over whether golf qualifies as a sport. Sid Rosenberg declares, "I don't even consider golf a sport." ([20:27]-[21:07]), arguing that it lacks the physical intensity of other sports. In contrast, Alan Hahn defends golf's athleticism, noting the stamina required for walking 18 holes and the precision of hand-eye coordination: "But walking 18 holes and all that stuff. I'm not going there." ([21:04]-[21:06]). Peter Rosenberg weighs in, comparing golf to games like cornhole and darts, emphasizing differing perspectives on what constitutes a sport: "It's on the same level as cornhole, darts." ([20:14]-[20:17]).
Listeners call in to share their viewpoints, sparking further discussion among the hosts. Caller Lake poses a question comparing Tiger Woods' and Rory McIlroy's redemption stories. Peter responds, "The Tiger story just feels more universal" ([33:11]-[35:15]), while Alan Hahn acknowledges Tiger's unparalleled appeal: "The drop off in terms of compelling between Tiger and who's ever next. There's multiple levels." ([33:23]-[34:07]). Another caller, William, expresses indifference toward golf, stating, "I just love sports, but I won't do that [watch golf]." ([35:36]-[49:45]). This leads to a humorous exchange about meatball sandwiches, showcasing the hosts' camaraderie and shared interests outside of sports.
Shifting focus to basketball, the hosts discuss the upcoming Knicks vs. Pistons series. They analyze how star power influences national interest and broadcasting decisions. Sid Rosenberg critiques the matchup, questioning the lack of excitement: "It just doesn't draw you in, right?" ([46:07]-[49:21]). Peter emphasizes the importance of marquee players, noting, "It’s about the star power." ([46:07]-[46:24]). They also touch on Vegas odds, with Alan Hahn mentioning, "If you put 100 bucks on the Pistons, it's a long shot," reflecting skepticism about the Pistons' chances against the Knicks.
In a lighter segment, the hosts rekindle their earlier conversation about meatball sandwiches. Sid recounts making sandwiches with Nancy's homemade meatballs: "Nancy makes the best meatballs... I made a sandwich instead of a hero." ([36:19]-[37:01]). Alan Hahn recommends a local spot, "Bogies Hoagies in Hawthorne," inviting listeners to try their meatloaf sandwiches ([36:19]-[38:27]). This exchange highlights their shared love for local cuisine and adds a personable touch to the episode.
As the episode concludes, the hosts reflect on their diverse interests and the dynamic of their discussions. They tease upcoming episodes and express appreciation for their listeners, reinforcing their commitment to delivering engaging sports conversations despite differing viewpoints on topics like golf and basketball.
