Alan Hahn
Hahn, I just got excited.
Peter Rosenberg
And Rosenberg. Alan just expressed theoretical arousal about the Dolly Parton puppet. This isn't North Dakota. This is New York.
Michael Rubin
This is Don Hahn and Rosenberg.
Peter Rosenberg
The best threesome I've ever heard on.
Michael Rubin
880 ESPN and the ESPN New York app.
Don La Greca
3 o' clock in the big city. Don, Hahn and Rosenberg. Another full frontal show. 3 to 7. But not all of it's going to be on 880. So write all this down for all of the people that just do not download the app. And what I asked you is, what's wrong with you?
Alan Hahn
Yeah, write all this down.
Don La Greca
8:80 till 3:30. Then 3:30 will be on 10:50 the rest of the way because Mets baseball will happen at 3:30 with the Mets and the Dodgers pre game and then four o' clock, first pitch. But if you've got the app, you don't have anything to worry.
Peter Rosenberg
Doesn't matter. Stay right where you are.
Don La Greca
But how are you guys? All right?
Alan Hahn
It's hot, man.
Don La Greca
Oh, wait. It's like I'm addicted to the roof.
Alan Hahn
I know you are, but today was one of those gross days. You don't want to be up on the roof.
Peter Rosenberg
Alan, I'm gonna tell you right now, that's not as relevant because I'm late in a hack. But for those of us when. When I'm there, the roof is gonna create major divides on this program.
Alan Hahn
You think so?
Peter Rosenberg
Because Don's upset.
Alan Hahn
Don, he loves.
Peter Rosenberg
Don's like. It's. It's sort of like when an animal in your house finds a new place. They like, you know, and every time you go back in, oh, they're back. Rusty's back on the back of the couch again. Don loves his roof. And there's some days when just come into the building, I go, are they gonna do roof today?
Don La Greca
It's hot out.
Alan Hahn
I texted when I got out of the subway and you know, that's the thing about New York. When you get out of the subway, it's when it hits you. Because subway, it's cool down on the subway.
Peter Rosenberg
Unless it's a broken car with a broken.
Alan Hahn
Then if. That's brutal. But. But when you. Once you start walking up those steps and it just starts to hit you, it's the first thing I said. We're not doing a roof today, right?
Don La Greca
Oh, yeah.
Alan Hahn
Don's already there.
Don La Greca
And listen, I think he's out of.
Alan Hahn
His mind, lathering himself up with S800.
Don La Greca
I bring sunscreen, I'm prepared.
Peter Rosenberg
He loves it.
Don La Greca
And I go up there. It was a little hot today, so I only gave it 30 minutes. But what other. It's a great place to come to work.
Alan Hahn
It's a great place.
Don La Greca
As you prepare, just hang out. And if you want to know, just to give you the mental picture, just think of. There's no pool, but, like, how a hotel pool area would look like. You get out of the elevator, you go through the double glass doors, and there's all nice seats and everything. And there's no pool. But it's got that kind of feel to it where there's music playing and you kind of just gather around. And I think all of the couches and seats are kind of put together where it's facing each other so you can communicate.
Peter Rosenberg
Now, Don, what would be the temperature level for you, where you'll go? Not today. It's a notch too far.
Alan Hahn
Not today. What's not today?
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, what's the number you think you got to hit?
Alan Hahn
Because today's not today for me.
Don La Greca
Yeah, if it's like 100 or a lot of humidity, it's like a very, very humid.
Alan Hahn
80 is the limit, man.
Peter Rosenberg
80, 80. He's not stopping at 80.
Alan Hahn
He clearly didn't stop at 80. He's 84 right now.
Don La Greca
There's no issue. I get my food or today I got the food from home. I come in, I fill up my cup with a bunch of ice. Cause it's going to melt up there if you don't.
Peter Rosenberg
You're damn right it will.
Don La Greca
I go up to the elevator, and anybody that's there can go. I ask Anthony. I don't recruit. I'm going to the roof. If you want to hang me, that's where I am. He's a roof nobody. If nobody comes up to the roof, I was willing to do it. When? At 2:30 when the meeting starts, I'm going to come down and I'll be there for the Meeting. But I come in early. I usually get here about like 1:40, 1:45. I'm going right to the roof and if you join me, you join me. If not, then I'll meet you down at the station at 2:30.
Alan Hahn
On the roof. I like it on the roof.
Peter Rosenberg
I'm with you, but you're going to have some days.
Alan Hahn
But I also don't want to sweat through everything I'm wearing.
Peter Rosenberg
And by the way you dress today, not so much your outfit, but your hair. It almost looks like he's preparing for a Sports center hit, doesn't it?
Don La Greca
Well, I think he learned his lesson. You never know when they're going to call.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, that's what it looks. Because like now with the polo and the hair's done.
Alan Hahn
Full disclosure.
Peter Rosenberg
Here we go.
Alan Hahn
I'm dead serious. Yeah, I didn't shower today.
Peter Rosenberg
Didn't shower?
Alan Hahn
No, it worked out. And then just kind of like did a bird bath. You know what? He is sorry about that.
Peter Rosenberg
It's disgusting.
Alan Hahn
So this isn't like whatever happened, I didn't plan it.
Peter Rosenberg
That's just greasy hair that you turned into something.
Alan Hahn
It's disgusting. I just like. This is a comb as I ran to the train. By the way, guys, what happened? The lead's buried here a little bit. What?
Don La Greca
I. Peter's out on the roof.
Alan Hahn
That's what I'm taking from this whole thing. Well, listen, he's already done.
Don La Greca
He's out on showing up before the show anyway.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, that's the thing. That's why I don't. That's why if you see the point.
Alan Hahn
We got a pool installed in the roof. Would you be earlier?
Peter Rosenberg
And then we need it. We would need a locker room.
Don La Greca
I don't know how you do that.
Peter Rosenberg
That's gonna be a lot of tremendous. That's gonna be a lot of. A lot.
Alan Hahn
What about a slip and slide?
Peter Rosenberg
If there was a slip and slide.
Don La Greca
I'm good.
Alan Hahn
It's got grass. It's some grass.
Don La Greca
Relax.
Alan Hahn
No sprinkler. Run through a sprinkler for a minute. Jake likes the sprinkler idea.
Peter Rosenberg
Look, by the way, look at our TV right now, Alan. And tell me you ever need to worry about how you dress for a Sports center appearance again.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, I guess not.
Don La Greca
I don't know.
Peter Rosenberg
Iman Shumpert looking like. I don't. Is that a T shirt and a sport coat? It is.
Alan Hahn
I mean, Iman Shumpert's like a. You know, he's guest. So he doesn't have to do anything crazy.
Peter Rosenberg
So he, like, they need to give.
Alan Hahn
Him better lighting, though.
Peter Rosenberg
He's like getting a tryout this. This postseason. No, I don't know. That's what it feels like, right?
Michael Rubin
I don't know.
Alan Hahn
He's a good personality. He's good. I like him.
Peter Rosenberg
He's entertaining.
Alan Hahn
Tell you what, you know who's fantastic? JB Bickerstaff.
Don La Greca
Really, really good.
Alan Hahn
And I was joking with him, I was like, listen, keep coaching, like, obviously, but if it ever doesn't work out, he's got a future in it.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, he had to know.
Alan Hahn
Really good.
Peter Rosenberg
For the record, when your last name is Bickerstaff. Yeah. I can say confidently that you were going to have a career. Like he was going to be all right. Yeah, it was. I mean, and I'm not saying he's not great and he's doing a really nice job with the Pistons.
Alan Hahn
Very good.
Peter Rosenberg
But if it was going to be, it was going to be coaching. There's me talking basketball. That name Bickerstaff, it rings bells.
Alan Hahn
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
And I know there are young people out there going, oh, there's another Bickerstaff. Yeah, there is.
Alan Hahn
Good stories. He tells them concise, quick. He gives you analysis. He's not giving you coach speak. He's. He's very good. Let's talk about the Mets, Don Peter.
Peter Rosenberg
Okay.
Alan Hahn
Because, I mean, after last year's nlcs, it looked like, like, you know, they gave the Dodgers a little bit of a push.
Peter Rosenberg
Right.
Alan Hahn
Way more than the Yankees did.
Don La Greca
Yeah.
Alan Hahn
And to see what they've done now, they got one more today. So technically they didn't win the series. Cause it's a four game set. But right now they've got four wins in six games. They've already won the season series against them. Griffin Canning with another good start. Like, is there something to be said about a confidence that even though the next time they'll meet will be four months from now. Right. Am I doing the math Right.
Don La Greca
In October.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Alan Hahn
Like July, August, September. Right. So am I crazy to think, like, can they. Even though it'll be months later, is there some confidence to be taken out of what we've seen from the Mets in these last two weeks in these matchups with the Dodgers?
Don La Greca
Well, just everything. Once you just put the whole, you know, Soto stuff aside. They got the second best record in baseball and the best record in the National League. And yeah, there's something too. They took two out of three for the Dodgers at Citi Field. Probably should have swept because they blew the lead in that Friday game. And right now, they could have won the first three games of this series. They blew a 54 lead the other night. Now that's going to happen. The Dodgers are really good, but, you know, they're. They're finding ways to beat the best team in baseball and they just seem to match up well with them, which has to make you feel confident, right?
Alan Hahn
Pete alonzo, that's had four hits, he.
Don La Greca
Had two of them, both home runs, had five of the six RBI the Mets had last night. He's batting 2. 90. He's raking.
Peter Rosenberg
Soto doesn't do anything special, Dom, but he gets you his three walks, which is a Soto. That is Soto finding his Soto.
Alan Hahn
Can I also say that I saw a glimmer of Soto in the net bat that he had with Gonsolin. Fifth inning they went. It was the. I don't know. I get full disclosure because of the Knicks stuff lately. I have not been locked in watching every single inning of everything.
Peter Rosenberg
How dare you, Alan?
Alan Hahn
But when was the last time Soto had that? He had a wiggle. Now, we talked about all the body language stuff, a little wiggle going on, gleam in his eye. And him and Gonsolin had a little bit of a back and forth going with the pitch. Nodding, grinning. Then Gonsolin grinning. They had like. That was a special at bat. He ended up drawing a walk, I believe, right?
Peter Rosenberg
Well, he did. He did almost every at bat.
Don La Greca
But.
Alan Hahn
But it was just the way that at bet went with him grinning and him looking locked in, nodding at pitches. Overall, a little wiggle like that, that.
Michael Rubin
Was the Soto I remember from last year.
Peter Rosenberg
Overall, the last week is his best week of the season so far. He seems to be turning into Juan Soto. It granted him, he's still batting.230, but it's just starting. And the thing I love, Don, if you're a Mets fan, is two weeks ago, I think it was two weeks ago already. You got on the air and you said, I mean, hey, look up now. They're only nine games over.500. It's not what it was a minute ago. They started to take a dip and then completely responded from that moment. That's what you love to see, I think, from this team.
Don La Greca
Well, he had the double last night. So that. What is that? Six straight games with an extra base hit. And the thing that impresses me about the Mets, just looking at this series, Peterson's going today is your pitchers in. In this series against the Los Angeles Dodgers in which they've won two of the first three games, have been, you know, Blackburn McGill. Right. Canning. And you got Peterson going today. So, you know, no, Sanga. The guys that they've got that are hurting these. This is how the Mets have decided that they're going to build their team where you're going to have pitchers that aren't recognizable names but, you know, go out there and end up pitching the job.
Alan Hahn
It's very Tampa Bay raised, isn't it?
Don La Greca
But I just think it's the idea of, well, we have the money, but I'm not going to spend all this ridiculous $40 million a year on pitchers that break down. They can only go five or six innings and end up not having as much of an effect on the game or our team. Now, we'll see. Come post season. You're going to want those studs to go. And Code I Senga is obviously a guy that they think can be that stud. And they're going to also get guys back from injury, so that's going to help too. But right now, these Blackburn, I mean, he was, he was in Oakland the last time anybody saw him pitch, and he gives you five solid innings. Even the McGill start, which is the worst of the start so far in this series, four runs over six innings. This is the Los Angeles Dodgers. He. He didn't embarrass himself. And the Mets were still in a position to win that game. If Diaz doesn't blow it.
Alan Hahn
Yep.
Peter Rosenberg
Excuse me.
Don La Greca
The buto blow it was. He has bros before. But they still end up winning the game.
Alan Hahn
Right.
Don La Greca
Again, it's not a perfect team and it's only June, but I can look at and say they're going to get healthier with the rotation. Soto is going to start to hit. This team is doing something they normally don't do, Alan, and that is follow up great seasons with another great season. They, the only times they've ever gone back to back in the postseason was 99, 2,020 and 1516 and 1516. It went, you know, again, wild card, wild card. And then in 99 and 2000, again it was wild card. You know, they made the wild card last year. But can they maybe do something they never do is that take the next step and now win the division and put yourself in a position to now be a team that's consistently good instead of those little flares and flashes are.
Peter Rosenberg
About third of the way yet.
Don La Greca
What's that we about a third.
Alan Hahn
We have up to a third yet. What are we at? 60.
Peter Rosenberg
We're right there.
Alan Hahn
62 games.
Don La Greca
Well, the Mets are 38 and 23, so that's 39, 62.
Peter Rosenberg
That's over a third, you and me.
Don La Greca
So I got 100 games left. So it's a long way to go. But still, I just think you look at this team and say, I can Alonzo maybe take a step back because of how well he's played?
Michael Rubin
Sure.
Alan Hahn
Why?
Don La Greca
But I think there's a lot of other things that you feel can be better. Lindor, broken toe, pinky toe. It's not that big of a deal, but he's going to be out today. He says he's going to play through it. You got Colorado coming up this weekend, so I think the Mets can manage even if they get the split of the four games against la. You take that, it's the Dodgers. You should be able to take care of business against the Rockies. And when you come home, hopefully Lindor is able to manage the pain because that's all that is is managing. The pain of the toe or the pinky toe doesn't normally affect things unless it's really bothering you. Right.
Alan Hahn
He gets hit a lot. They get hit. The Mets get hit a ton.
Don La Greca
The Mets, I would say over the last few years they've been hit the most. This year, I think two years ago they were hit the most.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. It's got to be record setting over.
Don La Greca
The last few years. I don't know why.
Alan Hahn
Crowding the plate, clearly. Right.
Don La Greca
All over the place. I also think that there isn't a lot of pushback to this. I mean, we talked about it years ago, Peter. Where Pete? When Alonzo's getting hit and like nothing's ever done.
Alan Hahn
Nobody retaliated.
Don La Greca
There was that one afternoon game was about two years ago in St. Louis where they threw like at the vicinity of. Who was it? The old. The one that the Yankees were trying to get a third. Yankee fans wanted a third bet. The old Rocky that now's the Arnado. And remember, Arnado flipped out and charged. Give me a break. Met's been hitting. It came within like a foot of him and he flipped out. But there's a little bit of a chip I'd like to see them play with, but it hasn't hurt them except, you know, a pinky toe on Lindor. But I think you got to be thrilled with this start, man.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, you certainly do. And the Phillies have kind of fallen off a little lately, but you know, you got a little bit of room. Game and a half. The Rocky Series could help a little bit there as well. But it is too soon to scoreboard watch. It is too soon to look at the standings, but I'm with you. I just think we didn't know what to expect out of the start of the season, especially with the starting pitching. And if you consider the two pitchers that they still haven't gotten back yet injury wise. So there's a lot to anticipate as they come forward. Right.
Don La Greca
Like and.
Alan Hahn
And who's closer to getting back starting pitching wise? Mania.
Don La Greca
When I was closed, but still not that close.
Alan Hahn
Still not.
Don La Greca
I thought they were, but it still could be a couple of weeks. Yeah, but it's not. It's. It's close right adjacent.
Alan Hahn
But you're looking at now, are they buyers? Are they aggressive buyers? When we get to mid July and you start looking at that market?
Don La Greca
It's not to me, because if you're.
Alan Hahn
In first place, you want to get like what you said, you want to secure, you want to win the division. Right? Isn't that like the first. If you're in first place when the deadline is around here and you still maybe you're a game and a half of their game and up now, let's say you're a game and a half to get whatever it is, that's when you really do have to have that approach of, okay, we should be all in when it comes to the trade deadline. Right. Do you agree with that?
Don La Greca
Oh, absolutely. But the thing is, is that if you're going to get Montas and Maniah back, that's as if you made a couple of trades for long, legitimate starting pitchers. Yeah. You always need tweaks to the bullpen. But what exactly do they need? You know, if, if there's, you know, Beatty's been okay, but if you want like a third baseman, like, they are equipped now to add. Right. That that was never the case. Like, how do we make this work financially?
Alan Hahn
Right.
Don La Greca
You know, that's not an issue anymore. So you put that away to where? All right, it's not going to be a money situation. It's like the matter what you need to do.
Alan Hahn
It's like Beatty, who else is it? Who's the kid they brought up?
Don La Greca
Ronnie Mauricio they called up. He was like crying at the anthem when they called him up.
Alan Hahn
And he looked overwhelmed at the place and he's not.
Don La Greca
He's really overwhelmed by a strikeout. And you know, it's so weird with video games now. Like, Marco plays mlb, the show, of course. And so he plays the minor league mode. Peter, if you're not familiar, like, you could play to where you're a minor leaguer. And you work your way up.
Peter Rosenberg
You make your own career.
Alan Hahn
Yeah. You create yourself. It's crazy.
Don La Greca
So he's like playing, playing as, as a Syracuse Met. And now he's fallen in love with Ronnie Mauricio. And he's asking me, where's Ronnie Mauricio? And I, I don't know off the top of my head where he is. You know, I, I said, I know he's Syracuse. I don't know how he's doing. You know, I haven't been really following. And he's like, following like where? And then when I told him he was all called, he got called up.
Alan Hahn
He got excited.
Don La Greca
When Vientos went on the il, he was like, he's all excited. I'm like, why are you so caught up in, in Ronnie Mauricio? We got Lindor Alonzo, son. He loves those guys. Like why are you.
Alan Hahn
Mets fans are in love with this.
Don La Greca
But he's not in love with him as a method. He's in love with him because he sees them because he's a teammate.
Alan Hahn
They're teammates. So if lockers next to each other.
Don La Greca
Michael Rubo is going to come in to promote Fan Fest. He's going to be in Studio at 3:30 and then we'll move over to 10:50 at that time. But then the Mets start at 4. So this is the chance to talk some Mets baseball at 1-800-919-3776. So you know, let's get into the conversation about them. So, you know, line up at 1-800-919 again, 3776.
Alan Hahn
Seems like everybody wants to talk about something else though, Don.
Don La Greca
Well, because we got the calls unfortunately lined up, it jumped right on from the K situation. But we'll go to them. Listen, we're open to just about everything here on the show. So let's go to Nick and Nutley. You're on espn, New York.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Alan Hahn
Hi guys.
Don La Greca
Thanks for taking a call very quickly.
Alan Hahn
Alan, you said about a week or.
Don La Greca
So ago that the Knicks do not.
Alan Hahn
Retaliate when somebody tries to show the.
Peter Rosenberg
Bump or something, okay?
Alan Hahn
Yep, fine.
Peter Rosenberg
I watch every Nick game to the, to the bitter end.
Don La Greca
And the last regular season game that they played against Detroit, Cunningham knocked somebody.
Alan Hahn
Out of bounds and stood over him.
Don La Greca
Yeah, and I said that stinks because they should retaliate. Well, they put in P.J.
Alan Hahn
Tucker because the Knicks were getting blasted.
Don La Greca
He happened to knock down.
Alan Hahn
I forgot who it was. Might have been Malik be in the corner.
Peter Rosenberg
Okay.
Alan Hahn
I called that game. It happened right in front of me. Yeah, I Know exactly what you're talking about. And he stood right over. Yes. Yes.
Don La Greca
Now, I don't know if they're going to bring back PJ Tucker, but maybe, just maybe, the Knicks need a little bit of leadership.
Peter Rosenberg
And.
Alan Hahn
Because if Tyrese Halliburton did that to.
Don La Greca
The old Knicks, did the choke sign.
Peter Rosenberg
After the first game of the playoffs.
Alan Hahn
He wouldn't be playing the rest of the playoffs. Two things. One, Nick, I agree with you on. You need a little more grit and grind some snarl back on this team. They don't really have a lot of guys, but the thing I'll have to remind you is that Reggie Miller did the choke sign. Nobody did a damn thing. Because you couldn't.
Don La Greca
Right?
Alan Hahn
Right. There was nothing you could do. It was a playoff game. There's nothing you could do. John Starks headbutted him one time and got thrown out of the game because it's. Again, it's the playoffs. So I love that we remember the 90s because of some of the physicality and stuff. But let's also not forget the 90s also included Scottie Pippen dunking over Ewing and then staring at him, standing over him. Nobody did anything. Michael Jordan dunking over two or three Knicks and then pointing at Ewing while Ewing was down on the ground. Let's not forget those things did happen, and no brawls ensued. So there are times when sometimes you just get got. And you just got to say, all right, it's got to be my turn. That's a real thing. But, you know. But I agree, though, whatever moves they make in this offseason, I'd like to see a little more grit.
Peter Rosenberg
It was. There are bigger moments, like you just point out the Detroit game, but they're also just like, possessions. Where, like, what? The game I was at, which, of course, they ended up winning and look good in game five. But I just. Possessions, Alan, where you're like, this is a spot where you got to stop the bleeding. And the moment here would be a hard foul. They go to the paint. You're just foul someone at center the line. I was thinking, it doesn't happen, the Pacer series. That's what I mean.
Alan Hahn
When they go on their runs, guy leaks out. And I saw a couple of times, like, McBride did it once, where it's like, don't give the layup up. Take him out. Halliburton's driving down the middle of the lane. You know, you can't block it. Take his ass.
Peter Rosenberg
TJ McConnell slicing through the lane for. Just take. I'm not talking about something that's looks like it's.
Alan Hahn
They don't have that mentality.
Peter Rosenberg
They don't have who they are. But. And by the way, is that also a telling piece of Thibodeau? For as much as he runs players ragged, he doesn't have them in fight mode. Maybe that's not the zone that he had them in.
Alan Hahn
Maybe you know who would have him there? IME Udoka.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, he's.
Alan Hahn
He's all about that life. Anyways.
Peter Rosenberg
All right, let's spend a lot of lives.
Don La Greca
Let's go to Sam out in Cleveland. You're on espn, Cleveland town.
Alan Hahn
Yeah.
Don La Greca
Hey guys, can you hear me? Oh, sure. First time, long time. Appreciate you guys. Take my call. Let's see, I'm a big time Rangers fan and obviously there was good news this morning about Dave Quinn and Sacco coming in as assistant coaches. Kind of wanted to get your guys thoughts and opinions on this mainly for Don and Hannah off the rip. My initial reaction, I'm a little bit disappointed. You know, I guess if Quinn can come in, come back in and fix the power play and maybe get the offense going a little bit more because he does have a history of doing that. He did it with New York, he did it with Pittsburgh last year. So I'm not worried there. I know that he's not known for his defense. We know that. I don't know much about Sacco personally. I know that Bruins players sounded like they liked him. I think he was dealt not the best card from the front office last year. So I don't really know what his role is going to be. I know that the, you know, Bruins special teams is really bad under him. Their offense wasn't great, their defense wasn't great.
Alan Hahn
He was there. You have to understand one thing though. Sacco. First of all, Sacco was a really good player. Second of all, he was there for like a decade. Like they made a bunch of coaching changes. He always stayed. That says something.
Don La Greca
And before that he spent four years as a head coach in Colorado. Again, he didn't win. But listen, Mike Sullivan's going to bring in the guys he feels comfortable with. And the reason I'm excited about David Quinn coming back is Adam Fox won a Norris Trophy with David Quinn as his head coach.
Alan Hahn
Right.
Don La Greca
He works really well as an assistant. He was assistant in Colorado, head coach with the Rangers and Mike Sullivan. So I'd never seen the two of them in the same play. Like they're, they're him and Mike Sullivan. They're very easy to confuse. They Sound the same. They kind of look the same. They're very good friends. I wouldn't get too caught up in all of that.
Alan Hahn
Is Pekka gone? Michael Pekka?
Don La Greca
I believe so. Yeah.
Alan Hahn
They did move on from him. Yes.
Don La Greca
He went originally from him, but then Chicago grabbed.
Alan Hahn
I thought he'd be a head coach at some point.
Don La Greca
I think Housley was let go. Muse ended up going to Pittsburgh. Coming their head coach, I wouldn't get too crazy. I hear it a lot that House Housley just was not. Was a disaster as the defensive head coach. I think they'll do a better job. Sacco's got experience. How often do you have really? Hennis? I don't have a lot of knowledge of. But to be able to have two of your assistants with head coaching experience. Mike Sullivan wants them, you bring them in. Yeah, that's how it works. I don't want to say it's. It's overrated. As a matter of fact, it's probably underrated the assistant coaches, because they all do a very good job. But if the head coach whose job is on the line likes these guys, trusts them, too.
Alan Hahn
Trusts them and they know what he wants. It's all that stuff. You need that continuity, you know. It's great though, Quinn, he's one of the good people in the world. It's great to have him back.
Don La Greca
It is nice to have him back. I thought he got job in San Jose because that team was a disaster. They weren't going to be any good.
Alan Hahn
What do you got? No, there is some interesting NFL news.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, there's some interesting. Yes, interesting NFL news. If you were. If you were taking bets. I know we don't do politics on this show, but this isn't about a side. It's about interesting.
Alan Hahn
I don't.
Peter Rosenberg
You were taking bets on how long the Trump Musk relationship would take to explode.
Alan Hahn
Just don't.
Don La Greca
That's day four.
Peter Rosenberg
I think we're ready.
Alan Hahn
It's just cartoons at this point. It's all cartoons.
Don La Greca
Tom Pelissero.
Alan Hahn
This is big.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, you're talking cartoons. Jump right to it.
Don La Greca
Aaron Rodgers is going to sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Alan Hahn
Shocking.
Don La Greca
But, you know, decided not to retire.
Alan Hahn
Before the minicamp begins. So he'll be at minicamp.
Don La Greca
Yeah, he's going to no OTAs, but minicamp I think he's going to be doing. He's going to toe the lot. The company line a little bit more than.
Alan Hahn
So is that a one o' clock, right? Jets, Jets, Steelers, a one o' clock.
Don La Greca
That's one o' clock. That might get. I don't. They don't shift them that early.
Alan Hahn
Can't flip that.
Peter Rosenberg

Michael Urban will be joining us in just a couple of minutes. Find out about Fan Fest, which is.
Peter Rosenberg
Going to be fanatics.
Alan Hahn
Festival fanatics.
Peter Rosenberg
Any yo yo could have a fan.
Alan Hahn
They've had fan. We've had a fan fest.
Don La Greca
So Rogers and Pittsburgh, no surprise. We knew that was going to happen. It was just a matter of when.
Alan Hahn
Now how do we feel about it? Like, is this like I want to look out for the Steelers or is this is like.
Don La Greca
Yes. I mean really in the sense of more so than if Mason Rudolph was their quarterback? Yes. I, I think that if he plays the way he played in the second half of the jets, in a functioning organization, even though Steeler fans hate their coach, he's a coach that just shows up and they win nine games. Now, are they going to beat out Baltimore or Cincinnati if those teams are healthy for the division? No. But they, they, I think now can be a playoff team. And I'm not going to begrudge Aaron Rodgers for wanting to get the Jet taste out of his mouth, go to Pittsburgh and maybe play in a playoff game instead of having his career end on a five win team. Right. So it's a good place for him to go. And don't be surprised if all of a sudden he falls in line organizationally where he maybe didn't with the Jets. Because you know what? He's not coming in here with his, his ring, you know, bouncing around, hey, Coach, what can I do?
Peter Rosenberg
They also have a. You said a key word there. Respectfully, Coach. I'm sorry. Like respectfully to Salah.
Alan Hahn
Ruh.
Peter Rosenberg
Bob. What do you call him?
Don La Greca
Rob?
Peter Rosenberg
Bob. Robert. Robert. You could call him Robert. Never Coach.
Alan Hahn
Love Bobby.
Peter Rosenberg
I don't know that he's just showing up and treating him like old Mike.
Alan Hahn
No.
Peter Rosenberg
You know what I'm saying. I think Mike Tomlin will get a little bit more of a.
Alan Hahn
But if he disagrees with things, that will. You know how those relationships always dissolve. I just. You're Going to get the best of him. As we learned here two years ago at first from, from minicamp. Say all the right things and it's easy to fall in love with him because he knows how to play that game. It's just once the season begins and things don't go the way he wants them to go, he just falls into that place where he can't help himself. And if he doesn't play up to the level that he's going to need to play for them to be a competitive team, especially in that division, I don't think it's. He's going to be washed. So it's curious to see if he's got anything left or if he's doing this, as you said, just to kind of save face.
Don La Greca
Both teams are in need of. I never bought for a second that Mason Rudolph was going to be their starting quarterback.
Alan Hahn
Not at all.
Don La Greca
So they need Rogers. But Rogers also needs the Steelers. All right. This is not like the Jet situation where we're talking about Vince Lombardi trophies and saving our organization.
Alan Hahn
Yeah.
Don La Greca
These are two. An organization needs a quarterback and a team and a quarterback that needs a team. And that's all that's going to be. So it's going to be a different world and just trying to see if he can get by and one hand washes the other and we'll see if he can close out his career a little bit better than it would have if he decided to retire. Do you see the way the Braves Lost, gave up seven runs in the top of the ninth inning. Lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks 11:10. So it's kind of a two team race in the east between the Mets and the Phillies. The Braves have been a disaster.
Alan Hahn
Why are they so they're 11 back right now but they're so bad.
Don La Greca
He's back now. Listen, I don't know how at 10, 4 going to the 9th inning at home. You lose a game like that. That's pretty incredible stuff. 1-800-919-3776 still got a bunch of people want to chime in and I'm curious to hear what Danny on Long island thinks. He's a Steeler fan.
Alan Hahn
Oh yeah.
Don La Greca
Completely in love with Tomlin. But just give me your thoughts on Rogers now as your starting quarterback in Pitt.
Michael Rubin
Just had to put a timeout on my water fight with my three grandchildren.
Alan Hahn
To converse the soaking wet. You know, I'm on the ground.
Michael Rubin
I mean kept my phone starts beeping as I'm engaged in this do or.
Peter Rosenberg
Die battle of agua and I said, timeout. So now here I am. You know, I'm indifferent to it.
Michael Rubin
I believe that the j. I mean, the Steelers and the Giants are both doing the same thing. They have a number one pick. They have a new quarterback waiting.
Peter Rosenberg
They've got two people that can hold.
Michael Rubin
It down for a year, make it.
Peter Rosenberg
Competitive so it's not a complete cluster.
Michael Rubin
And then next year, turn it over to the rookie.
Peter Rosenberg
If Aaron Rodgers wins 10, 11 games this year, fine, Mr. Toddler keeps his record. But you know, and I agree. You know what, it is interesting because he. Between him and the Giants, if you.
Don La Greca
Get the best out of either one.
Michael Rubin
Of those two guys, you have a.
Peter Rosenberg
Very good chance of being a playoff team.
Michael Rubin
The Steelers division is insane.
Peter Rosenberg
So if they're trying to do anything other than groom the next franchise quarterback.
Michael Rubin
Then they're being foolish.
Peter Rosenberg
Aaron Rodgers is definitely a step up from Mason Rudolph, definitely a step up from Wilson. But I want to see the. If The Steelers are 7 7, I.
Michael Rubin
Want the kid to start playing the game.
Peter Rosenberg
I want to see him in the.
Michael Rubin
Field rather than worry about getting to.
Peter Rosenberg
10 wins to keep some fugazi over 500 records.
Alan Hahn
So that's the goal.
Peter Rosenberg
The goal has to be get this kid ready to play football.
Michael Rubin
However that looks in 20. 27.
Peter Rosenberg
Six, actually.
Alan Hahn
Well, Danny, I can hear them in the background. Go play with the grandkids, man. Go have fun with them. It's a hot day. Did you hear them in the background?
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, I did. If you want, bring them up to the roof next time.
Alan Hahn
He wanted to get that taken so bad, but they're just like, come on, grandpa, come on.
Michael Rubin
Like we have fun.
Peter Rosenberg
He's like, not. He's like, pittsburgh has a quarterback. I must be heard from.
Don La Greca
When. When did they take the quarterback?
Alan Hahn
Huh?
Don La Greca
When did they take him?
Alan Hahn
Wasn't he third?
Don La Greca
I'm just looking quick here. Yeah. So I don't. I don't know if it's. It's comparable. The Giants traded back into the first round.
Alan Hahn
It's the kid from Michigan, right? To get dart or no Ohio State. Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
Six round.
Don La Greca
Yeah. So I'm sorry. Yeah, he was. Yeah, he was taking in the sixth round.
Alan Hahn
6.
Don La Greca
You're sick. You're not. You're not greasing the skids to give your 6th round pick a chance to play.
Peter Rosenberg
You're not rushing off Aaron Rodgers to get to your sixth round.
Don La Greca
The Giants traded back into the first round to get dart. You drafted a quarterback because you said, hey, we're going to need a quarterback at some point. Even if Roger signs with us we've got Mason Rudolph and nobody else.
Peter Rosenberg
You don't take a quarterback at the sixth round.
Don La Greca
If you're seven and seven you're six. Unless the sixth round pick becomes Tom Brady.
Peter Rosenberg
No, Don.
Don La Greca
He's not getting a sniff.
Peter Rosenberg
Your sixth round quarterback may have been as simple as you forgot you had any more picks. Everyone had packed up to leave already and you said you know what get the quarterback.
Don La Greca
I just wanted. Because when he brought it up I'm like I thought it was late. Late in the draft that they got him. Maybe I was.
Peter Rosenberg
People are. People are starting to like him. He's one of those guys that now.
Don La Greca
You'Re under no obligation because what did you risk? It's a sixth round pick. The Giants traded into the first round for their first round pick to get dart so there's an obligation to see that through. Sixth round picks Peter get cut.
Peter Rosenberg
They're very often.
Don La Greca
And if he ends up making it it'll be a miracle. So it's so weird. None of these Steeler fans love Rogers.
Alan Hahn
I'm going to predict that Will Howard makes the team.
Don La Greca
Oh, I think he's going to make the team.
Alan Hahn
I think he's going to make the team.
Don La Greca
No, I expect him to make the team.
Alan Hahn
I know he's a six round pick. He was a good college quarterback but if he didn't have high grades for.
Don La Greca
And if he has a great camp I'm sure he can move up. But Aaron Rodgers your starting quarterback and I But I don't know why Steeler fans hate it. What is it about him? Or they just want it to bottom out so Tomlin gets fired. Is that what they're.
Alan Hahn
No. I think Aaron Rodgers has reached a point now with his reputation and everything that you saw with the jets and everything else. I just think people have kind of grown tired of it.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Alan Hahn
You know it is and he wasn't.
Peter Rosenberg
Good enough to care about it.
Alan Hahn
That's the thing is that it wasn't like he was still making magic. You know I think that's part of.
Don La Greca
The jets handed him the keys to the franchise. Steelers aren't going to do that. The second it becomes a problem they'll just send them on his way.
Alan Hahn
Sure.
Don La Greca
This the ones. This is the one organization I know Antonio Brown got.
Alan Hahn
I was going to say have you.
Don La Greca
Paid attention what ended up happening? He was gone.
Alan Hahn
Yeah.
Don La Greca
1-800-919-3776 Michael Rubin's gonna be coming up next. We'll get. Let's get him in here. Fanatics Fest, which is coming up in a couple of weeks. He's gonna be live in studio. We got ENN coming up at 6 o' clock. And don't forget 4:30.

What's being well, many things. It is going down in just a couple of weeks. June 20 to the 22nd at the Javits center, the second annual Fanatics Fest in New York City. And of course the man behind it, the man behind Fanatics, my buddy Michael Rubin is in the building. How you doing, man? Turn that mic close to your face, by the way. There you go. There you go.
Michael Rubin
Let's go. How am I doing?
Peter Rosenberg
You're doing great. Now you sound crispy. How are things going so far? You're telling me there's already going to be double the people that you currently had that you had last year?
Michael Rubin
Last year we had 70,000 people in our first Fanatics Fest, by the way. I had no idea what to expect. I think a week in advance we had like 10,000 tickets sold.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Michael Rubin
Then just everyone came out in a big way and it was like, I mean, you saw it last year. Just the feelings from people, just the amount of sports fans who were like, this is the most incredible thing I've ever done. I loved it so much. I made so many great memories here. So we're like, we got to run it back. So I think we've double the amount of people. We've got so many incredible athletes, artists, celebrities, influencers coming. I mean LeBron James is coming this.
Peter Rosenberg
Year for the first time doing the shop.
Michael Rubin
Yeah, he's coming yet. Doing the shop. Victor and Benyama's coming. James Harden's coming this year.
Peter Rosenberg
Kd, Excuse me. The NFC offensive rookie of the year.
Michael Rubin
I was getting right there. I mean we changed it. I mean we did this for you. Like we know what a die hard Commanders fan you are and so we moved Fanatics Fest from August until June.
Peter Rosenberg
So Jaden could be there.
Michael Rubin
So we could have all the current NFL stars. J.D. daniels there, C.J. strahd, Bryce Young, Michael Parsons.
Peter Rosenberg
You got the Manning brothers.
Michael Rubin
Manning brothers, yeah. It's going to be sick. We got, you know, Kevin Hart, Jay Z, Travis Scott.
Peter Rosenberg
So let me just ask you, Michael. You got so much stuff going on, and since I first met you.
Michael Rubin
That's why I look old now. I used to look young, by the way.
Peter Rosenberg
You don't look old, but if you do look old, you know why you look older? It's the Ozempic. I mean, what's not Ozempic? The other one.
Michael Rubin
You gotta get my shot. Right.
Peter Rosenberg
Sorry. Which one is it?
Michael Rubin
Manjiorno.
Peter Rosenberg
Manjiorno? But you're so. I'm not on you.
Michael Rubin
I'd be pudgy now. I'm like, you know, I'm getting skinny.
Peter Rosenberg
No, you look great.
Michael Rubin
And by the mayor behind you. He loves when I talk about me taking Manjioro. It's like.
Peter Rosenberg
It's.
Michael Rubin
Nothing makes him more uncomfortable than the complete transparency and honesty.
Peter Rosenberg
But I love it by the way, you show up one day looking much thinner in pictures. Why be the guy who's like, oh, I just. I got on a great. What? Tell the truth.
Michael Rubin
You know what's amazing? When I see somebody now, they got skinny, 99% of the time, they're taking the shot.
Peter Rosenberg
Yep.
Michael Rubin
And so I saw somebody yesterday, and I'm like. I'm like, oh, man, you look incredible. The guy's down like 100 pounds. I'm like, you look incredible. I'm like, the shot's treating your grace like, I'm not taking this shot. I'm like, shut up. Enough out of here.
Peter Rosenberg
Why are we doing this? And what's to be embarrassed about?
Michael Rubin
Nothing.
Peter Rosenberg
But, no, you look great.
Michael Rubin
They got you the. Should Manjiorno be a sponsor of Fanatics?
Peter Rosenberg
By the way, what do you think? I would love if I could start getting it for free. Please give me some Manjiorno.
Michael Rubin
We got you. Well, listen, there's a rumor that you could have a key role at Fanatics Fest this year.
Peter Rosenberg
Is that true?
Michael Rubin
I don't know. I heard you might be a star WWE judge in the Fanatics Games.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, that is true. So the wwe. I won't give reveal it all, but there are these Fanatics Games. Can you describe what the Fanatics Games.
Michael Rubin
Fanatics Games. It's going to be. This is going to be so insane. So we're taking a 50 celebrities, artists and athletes. 50 fans number. So it's 100 people competing. It's eight different athletic competitions, things like, you know, accuracy of throwing a ball, FIFA kicking competition. Eight different sports. Kind of all the sports. You take your best six scores, you drop your worst two, average them together. Million dollar cash prize for the first place. $500,000 Ferrari for the second prize.
Don La Greca
Wow.
Michael Rubin
$250,000. 2003 LeBron James rookie card as the third prize.
Don La Greca
Wow.
Michael Rubin
So the scary thing was when I started calling, people say, hey, do you want to do this? It's like, do you need me to do it? Then when we start, then we came with the prizes. Everyone's like, I'm getting that money. By the way, the amount of people have called me in the last week like, yo, like Michael Parsons, by the way, he's convinced he's with. He's an athlete too.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, by the way, I wouldn't want to be up against Michael Parsons in anything.
Michael Rubin
Well, Jaden, Daniel sent it.
Peter Rosenberg
He's in it?
Michael Rubin
Yeah, he's in it.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, well, listen, if I'm judging something tens, by the way, I'm not legit already.
Alan Hahn
Just for showing up.
Michael Rubin
Hold on. Jaden's doing the walkout in wwe. You're gonna get to judge him.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, listen, how can I be an impartial judge when JD5 walks through that.
Alan Hahn
Sleeping on his back that day? I might have to sleep on his back after that.
Michael Rubin
This game's gonna be insane.
Don La Greca
But it's, it's.
Michael Rubin
This is like, I'll tell you, like, it just shows you somebody's just gonna come up with a big idea and you never, you don't know how it's.
Peter Rosenberg
Gonna, you know, why are you doing this? I wanted to ask you.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, on that front, though, because we talked about this last year. It was the first one, and you were like, I don't know what it's gonna be. Let's. Let's fight. We're gonna find out. Was there a moment last year during the event where you just looked around and went, holy crap, like, even you were surprised about the magnitude that it became? Because you're right, New York is a big walk up market and there was a ton of walk up. And to me, the social media coverage that all those, the different things that you had going on, whether it was athletes, whether it was competition, whatever it was that was going on, it seemed to be a heavy social media coverage of it. Was there that one moment where you just stopped and looked around and said to yourself, my God, this is bigger than I could have Imagined there was.
Michael Rubin
But I gotta go back because like a week earlier, like, no one at Fanatics wanted to do this. You're just like, it's like, why we got so much going on, right? We're building the Fanatics sportsbook. We're building tops and collectibles business. We're building the fan gear business. We have so much going on. Like, we don't need another thing. And by the way, they were right. And so. But we plan it like, you know, I went to Comic Con, I saw this, I'm like, why do sports fans not have this? Like, sports fans deserve this. They need this. So I hired the guy who ran Comic Con. And like a month before, I'm thinking, how did I get myself into this? And like, I remember I was on. I was, I do like one week not during the holidays, one week, not during Christmas where I go on vacation and take my entire family. And I remember thinking, like, how do I get out of this thing? It was like two weeks before, three weeks before, like, how do I cancel this thing? It's just so hard. And. And it just shows you, like, you just gotta go for things and get. And then I'm like, you know what? That's such a, like, wimpy ass attitude. Like, no, you just gotta put everything you have into it. But it was like, it was a real grind because you're asking hundreds of people to come out and support you, you know, to make this thing great, to make it so insane.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, that's the hardest part, right? Is that, like, no matter how much you guys work with someone, if Jay Z shows up, if you say we're building a whole 40, 40, and Jay flies into town, blah, blah, blah. And then he gets there and it's dead and there's nothing going on.
Michael Rubin
It's a tough little terrifying. Jay Z was coming and Travis Scott was coming, and, you know, KD and Ant were coming off the Olympics and Brady was there for two days. So you're pulling all these favors to get people to do this so you don't know what's gonna happen. So I'll tell you. I operate with very little sleep pretty effectively. And this is why my eyes, Everyone always makes fun of me with the black eyes because I don't sleep enough. But anyway, so I had not slept the Thursday night, Friday night before it, and I came home Saturday night and there was like a little like, people were just a bunch of people who came in for the week and were kind of hanging on my roof in my apartment. And I remember Thinking like, oh, my God, this thing is nuts. Like, it hit me like that we actually pulled it off. And you're just like, I'm just looking at my phone. You're seeing. Everything in my feed is like, about these crazy things about it. Whatever you think about last year, this year is going to be 10 times better. Like the amount of stunts that no one knows that we have coming. The amount of crazy thing. And last year we had the NFL, the NBA, Major League Baseball, Hockey, UFC and wwe.
Peter Rosenberg
Plus the. Plus the Tyson, Jake Paul press conference.
Michael Rubin
This year we've added. On top of all that, this year we've added F1 coming for the first time. Wow. Premier League, FIFA, Nike with two big activations. Dick's Sporting Goods raising canes with a giant super cool activation. And then there are some other surprises that you just made me think about that we can't talk about yet. But we have some, let's say some big press conferences coming as well.
Peter Rosenberg
Big press conferences coming.
Alan Hahn
Oh, really?
Michael Rubin
Yeah, some big. We got some very big things.
Alan Hahn
So this thing is again, viral again.
Michael Rubin
Like, that's whatever Variety had last year. It's gonna be times 10 and it.
Alan Hahn
Was unreal last year.
Michael Rubin
You know, people told me they love the most. Sorry, the thing people told me they love the most. It's like you just walk into the halls and like, you know, there's Brady passing you. There's Jay Z passing there's Travis Scott passing. Like, for the average fan who doesn't, you know.
Peter Rosenberg
And it really does happen that way.
Michael Rubin
He doesn't get to be like, Peter, who sees this every day.
Peter Rosenberg
Every day.
Michael Rubin
You know, it's like, it's pretty cool.
Don La Greca
Now, do you have any issues with like, beefs where guys like, yeah, I'm gonna come, but just don't put me near him.
Michael Rubin
Yes.
Don La Greca
Is that a headache for you?
Michael Rubin
I'm in kindergarten management.
Don La Greca
Okay.
Michael Rubin
Yesterday I had one. Let's say that someone who's popular to a lot of us cause that this person can't come. And I said, you know, there is like a million square feet. Like, it's a pretty big spot. They're like, well, I don't like them. I'm like, okay, I love you, but you're still coming. And I'm not disinviting this person. So that's like a normal day at this point. Yes.
Peter Rosenberg
Because you do have a good amount of people, by the way. You have to deal with that same thing at your white party too, don't you?
Michael Rubin
For sure. Like, I didn't really, like, I Like, Like, I like just about everybody. Like, I really.
Peter Rosenberg
You really do have a lot of good relationships for a lot of people.
Michael Rubin
But I'm like a happy person. I'm lucky as could be to be in this position. I love doing what I do. Like, I want to just bring people together on everyone to do great. I'm always trying to push people up. I'm trying to always. Like, we're always helping each other. So, like, I'm not the beef type of person. Even. Someone was saying last night, I was in Boston, last night was Robert Kraft's 84th birthday dinner. And I was. Someone was saying about someone's kid who works for us, who I love, by the way, and he's like, wait, weren't you and his dad in a major fight? Weren't you guys in this big loss? I'm like, it was like 10 years ago. I'm like, the second it was over, like, I didn't care. Like, it was yesterday's news. So that's my mentality. So, like, I'm just like, yes, there, there is. There are politics, there are issues. We have it at the White Party. We have. And there are people like, I mean, look, last year, everyone knows it's the White Party. You know, I didn't let anyone play Kendrick Lamar's music. And I like, took a bunch of crap over that. But, like, I didn't care, like I.
Peter Rosenberg
Said, because Drake was there. Yeah, right. And it would have been weird. You just feel it would have been weird.
Michael Rubin
I don't think they should play not like us with Drake standing right there. I didn't.
Peter Rosenberg
Fair enough. Yes.
Michael Rubin
I think that was really an appropriate thing to do.
Alan Hahn
It was also thoughtful. Never mind appropriate.
Michael Rubin
It was thoughtful for somebody who knows nothing about culture or music. I actually thought, like, this one I could figure out.
Peter Rosenberg
Michael, let me ask you this. This whole thing has been so crazy, your run at this point, if people don't know the story. I'm sure you've told him many places. And it's incredibly interesting selling sneakers as a teenager, flipping it and building this business. Do you ever have moments, though, now that you do have so much and you're so well known where, like, you just get paranoid or freaked out at sort of how large the whole thing is?
Michael Rubin
No, because I feel like I'm running a startup and I always want to have that mentality. Even though we're going to be close to 12 billion in revenue next year and we have 22,000 people, like, I feel like. And I think you always have to act like you're running a startup because if you don't, I think bad things happen. Like you need to be, you know, paranoid from a competition perspective, paranoid from like always doing better for the fan. And like there's so many things we have to do in each of our businesses. So I'd say I always want to be on our A game. And there are things we do really well, there are things we don't do well enough. We're just always working relentlessly to be better at what we do. And so we're never happy, we're never satisfied, we never feel good enough about what we're doing. Like you last year during Fanatics Fest. So I didn't know whether 10,000 people were showing up or 70,000 people end up being 70,000 people. But like all I did was tell people as I'm walking, you know, there are hundreds of things I didn't like. Like last year the autograph and photo lines were a disaster because we got it wrong the first year. Like there was like we had people.
Peter Rosenberg
Waiting too long things.
Michael Rubin
Well, we had like you could buy a VIP pass and like the first year they let that VIP pass cut in front of people who had bought tickets and like it wasn't meant to work that way and we just screwed it up. Okay, what do you do? You take ownership and say, how am I going to do about it next year? There were, in spite of that, I'd say 95% of people had the time of their life. There were still things we didn't like, things we didn't get right. But you just worked to make it better. And that's like how building a company, that's how building anything.
Don La Greca
And how do you get that feedback to know how you can service the customer better?
Michael Rubin
Well, first of all, I like for a guy who barely made it out of high school, that's not being self deprecating. I am that dumb. You know, I got a 780 msats combined. Okay, that's.
Peter Rosenberg
I didn't even know it was a possible score.
Michael Rubin
It's hard, by the way.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, that is hard. Usually your name is good for like 500, 400.
Michael Rubin
So you know, so for a guy who got seven, eight, nine sats, I went to, you know, college for part of a semester to Villanova. Like I learn by asking questions. And so you're always just, you know, kind of gathering information. So I think listening to your customer is a really good thing to do. And by the way, the great thing about sports fans, they are the best Fans of the world. And when you get something wrong, it's why you guys. It's why you guys do what you do.
Alan Hahn
They'll let you know.
Michael Rubin
They let you know.
Alan Hahn
They don't hold back.
Michael Rubin
And, you know, I appreciate that. I love that feedback. You know, we had something that went wrong last year that we were just a part of, but, like, we like it. Like, it made us a better company. So whenever something goes wrong, whenever we don't do something well, we use that to be better and we care so much. Like, that's why I think you want everyone to know is how badly and how much we care. And like that festival we lost 15 million bucks putting on last year. It was a marketing give back. But it's like, you know, then you come out, you're like, here are all the things I don't like about what I did. Here's how I can make it better. But, like, the amount of people that we're working to get to bring here to make sure this thing is great, the amount of phone calls you need to make to someone to get them to show up. Because remember, we don't pay athletes to show up at this. This is. They have, you know, big partnerships with fanatics, but this is kind of part of their partnership. So, you know, for us, it takes a lot to put this on, but you just got to say, I'm going to be unrelenting at making whatever we do better.
Peter Rosenberg
Who of all the athletes you deal with and you deal with so many. I know this is very hard. Who sort of blows your mind the most for how sort of kind and giving they are consistently?
Michael Rubin
A lot of people. I say the first person who comes to my mind is Tom Brady. Like, Tom Brady, he is that special. Like, you see the crazy competitive. Like, I only became super friendly with him, like, in the last five years. Like, you know, we've become, you know, incredibly close. I see, like, when it comes to competition, when we had that beach football game that went by last year at the White party. And like, I see how serious he is and, like, like, they're not playing. Like, he's like, you know, I'm like, don't throw that ball at me. Cause I don't want to screw you up, man.
Peter Rosenberg
Let me.
Michael Rubin
Let me just play defense and jump on people. But, like, you see the crazy competitiveness. But then you see, like, we call him every week with, like, hey, can you do something, you know, for this? Make a wish, kid. Or can you help him do something with that? Like, you see how gentle and kind he is. But then you see what a killer he is, you know, when it comes to competing. So he's a guy that I definitely think about. I think in general, most of the people we deal with are pretty good people and they want to make a difference and they realize, like, we're. We're lucky. Like, I'm lucky as could be, like, to get to do what I do. So, like, I think it's my responsibility to help make a difference. So when you hit me up and say, hey, you know, can you do something for this person? Like, I'm always. And you know this about me.
Peter Rosenberg
I do.
Michael Rubin
Always trying to help.
Peter Rosenberg
That's the first thing I say about Michael. When anyone asks me about you, I will say this. From knowing you for one second to now, like five years, he responds. He will respond to everything that comes his way, which is an incredibly rare trait amongst people who have a lot going on.
Michael Rubin
Thank you. And I'll try, like, even, like, what happens. Like, I'll go and I lose control of my phone for a week. And then, you know, I get home Saturday morning, I'm up at 5am and I'm on the phone in my office. Okay, you know, Peter, hit me on this. Hit him back. This person. Hit me on that. Like, always trying to make sure we responding and dealing with everything because I, like, I think I'm lucky and I'm fortunate. So I think most of the people that we deal with are pretty good human beings. And by the way, when they're not, I won't like that. If I think someone's not a good human being, I don't want anything to do with it. I mean, like, I'm so pretty. Think about, like, LeBron James. Like, he's getting on a plane and flying here from California. That's pretty special. Victor Omiama is coming here, I think from. I think he's coming from, like, Paris, then going to China or something like that. Like, you look at what people are doing. Like, you know, I think about, like, the White Party. Travis Scott flew in between two shows. You know the schedule. He was like, in Eastern Europe and went back to, like, Germany the next day. So, like, I watch People's Hustle and that means a lot to you. Then you see, if you see the other side, you're like, yeah, I don't like.
Alan Hahn
So, yeah, they let you know pretty quickly what they're about and then you know exactly what to expect. It's in New York now for a second time. Is there something about having it in New York that you feel like this is the best place to put it. It's probably an obvious question being the biggest market and the easiest place to get to for a lot of the people you're bringing in. But a lot of times you'll see these things do move around. Is. Is New York sort of the epicenter for you?
Michael Rubin
New York is the epicenter for us. Fanatics is headquartered here. You know, I think it is the most important city in the world. You know, that's my perspective. I think it's in a situation for Fanatics Fest New York where we don't pay talent to come. It's part of the broader marketing deals that people have with Fanatics. It's. It's easy to say, hey, we need you in New York. If you're like, hey, I need you in, you know, London, or I need you in someplace far away. It's a much harder ask of somebody. And we try to combine this with other things people do. It's like when someone comes, they're generally doing multiple things. Like, you know, they could have, you know, eight big things on the agenda at Fanatics Fest. So I think it does make New York the best place to do it. Could we ever do it somewhere else maybe?
Peter Rosenberg
Weren't you gonna do la?
Michael Rubin
We thought about LA and I canceled it.
Peter Rosenberg
Right. Because it had gotten leaked that you were gonna announce in la and then you bailed them.
Michael Rubin
And then I said, you know what? I didn't think Fanatics Fest New York the first year was good enough. I want to make Fanatics Fest the second year in New York much better. Like how do we perfect all the things that went wrong the first year and how do we make this thing like crazy spectacular? So here will be my question on Sunday at 4 o' clock when it's over, what was the feedback of all the hundred thousand plus fans that come to it? How do the athletes, artists, celebrities that all come to support us? How do they feel about it? And then how was the Social pickup? Because for us, you don't make money from this. This is a fan give back. And so you know, you want people.
Peter Rosenberg
So you plan to lose again this year too?
Michael Rubin
Yeah. This business will be set up as a business Fanatics event. It'll lose a little bit of money. Not the 15 million bucks we lost last year, but it's like in this grand scheme of Fanatics, it's teeny dollars. And you talked about the variety of this. We owned Social and now you have the Fanatics Games. Now you're going to have people like Travis Scott and Tom Brady and Jaden Daniels and KD and James Hart and Ice Show Speed and Kevin Hart competing against, by the way, 50 great athletes, artists, celebrities competing against 50 fans in these games in each sport, in basketball and football and hockey and baseball and soccer and UFC and WWE and golf, like, that's going to be insane. So that. That's going to own the Internet. I can't wait. By the way, the funniest call I got from one of your guys. Get this. FaceTime last week, it's DJ Khaled. He's like, yo. He says, you see me running against that guy? Do you see how good I look?
Peter Rosenberg
I saw that too.
Michael Rubin
And I'm like, yeah, that was insane. I'm like, some good Photoshop. I was messing with him. Like, he's like, yo. He's like, I want into the game. She says, I'm taking Brady down. I'm like, huh? He's like, yeah, I'm taking Brady down. I'm like, is this like a game of ch. Like, what are we talking about here? He's like. He's like, ah, he can get me football, but, like, I'm better in basketball. I'm better in golf. My WWE walkout, better. So I called Brady.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Michael Rubin
Bracelet. That man better have an ambulance waiting for him.
Don La Greca
The competition, right? Yeah. Tom wants to compete.
Peter Rosenberg
By the way, the Internet is filled with Okhalid doing all of those things. And Brady is better at literally every single one by a mile.
Michael Rubin
Bears behind this. Mayor, make sure we do have an ambulance for him.
Peter Rosenberg
No, Okhalid's my brother. I love Khalid. I do see a lot, but. That's good. But have you seen Khaled shoot a basketball? It's horrifying.
Michael Rubin
Yeah, it looks like me.
Peter Rosenberg
Throwing the baseball. It's like him shooting basketball.
Michael Rubin
He's got my athletic skills.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, it's going to be awesome, man. Tickets are available right now. Fanatics Fest.com June 20th to the 22nd. And obviously there's. There's meet and greet experiences, autographs, live shows, a celebration for the Philadelphia Eagles. I mean, you couldn't help.
Michael Rubin
We got a big Yankees. We got, you know, Jeter, Jeter, a rod. Tons of Yankees together.
Peter Rosenberg
John. John Cena is going to be there. The undertaker, Rhea Ripley, Jay uso, Liv Morgan, and many more WWE stars. Cody is going to be there as well. I would put him, by the way, on the high, on the list of celebrities who will do anything. Answer the call. Best guys ever. Cody Rhodes is.
Michael Rubin
Cody's been amazing. We've asked Cody to do a bunch of things. He's been an absolute, utmost pleasure to work with.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, he's a jerk.
Michael Rubin
WWE crew in general is pretty awesome. I mean, you've been like a diehard your whole life. I've only got into WWE in the last couple years. Going to the stadium.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, yeah? Yeah.
Michael Rubin
And like, seeing 75,000 people for WWE, that's insane. And I mean, I have such, such a great time. And I can't wait to go back next year for Wrestlemania. I'll be at SummerSlam this summer.
Don La Greca
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
I met life. Michael, thank you, man.
Michael Rubin
Hey, thanks for having me, man.
Peter Rosenberg
It's going down. Fanatics Fest.
Michael Rubin
