Don La Greca
I'll be licking the television screen.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, the type of music I listen to would make you cry. And Rosenberg, I expect to be called ball coach.
Don La Greca
This is in North Dakota. This is New York.
Peter Rosenberg
This is Don Han and Rosenberg on 880 ESPN and the ESPN New York app now.
Don La Greca
301 in the big city. It's finally upon us. It's finally here. All of the analysis game, all of the hype, all of the talk. And finally we are at Nick's Pistons. No, we're at the 2025 Live from Lambeau NFL Draft. Oh, like he's finally here.
Michael Kay
Like you have nightmares about here.
Peter Rosenberg
It is Christmas. No, it's not.
Don La Greca
Michael is so hyped up, he's still in the studio. He didn't want to miss it. Going to the car, having to wait for the car.
Peter Rosenberg
How about that? Listen, if it's not really Christmas morning, let's be honest. It's not Christmas morning. Okay, what is it, though?
Don La Greca
What is it?
Peter Rosenberg
What is it equal to? What would you say it is? Because it's laundry day? No, Come on, Peter.
Don La Greca
Sorry. Sorry.
Peter Rosenberg
It's a real right. We know you're not a fan, but honestly, like. Like, for a lot of fans, this is. This is like that chance to renew you put last year, especially because you're. If you're in the top 10, you know you were a bad team, right? So it's that chance to clear the shower off the stench and try to get that new start. And if you're the jets, think about it. This is like sort of the rebirth, the new regime. And they're looking at that roster like, that's Joe Douglas's roster. That's not our roster. So this is where they're now. Fingerprints start to get put on the roster and we'll see what type of team the jets are going to be. And for the Giants, it's Joe. Shane has 24 hours, maybe 36 hours to save his job.
Don La Greca
Well, guys, I got to tell you that this has really played out well for Shane to be able to do just that. Because then I brought this up yesterday and I heard Michael allude to the silly win against Indianapolis. If they had lost to Indianapolis, they'd have the first overall pick. They're taking more. It's done. It's over. They've got their quarterback, but we don't know if that would be enough. We don't know how good that would be because maybe Ward wouldn't be the guy. This is not supposed to be a great draft to begin with. We're Hearing reports that J.J. mcCarthy, if he were in this draft, would go first overall. The Giants passed on J.J. last year.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Don La Greca
So they'd feel obligated. We need a quarterback. We got the first overall pick. We've got to take Cam Ward. And as a Giant fan, I'd wonder, is that the right pick? We wouldn't find out until the first year, maybe deeper into a couple of years to know if that's the right pick. But, guys, if Abdul Carter is there at three, he's a generational talent on the defensive line. That could really help what I believe is a really good defensive team. They did some really good things during the off season. If you can get something from Thibodeau here, entering his fourth year, you know how good Dexter Lawrence is, you add Carter there, you. You've got yourself a functional defense with experience at quarterback. And if they could trade back into the first round or have a Sanders or someone of that ilk drop into their first pick in the second round and they walk away with a quarterback. And Carter, how are you not pumped if you're a Giant fan? And doesn't that paint the best chance for Shane and Dable to keep their jobs? You've got a quarterback room now with a good young quarterback and two veterans in the room. You get a generational defensive player. Doesn't that really set the Giants up for these guys to save their job? And don't you feel like that would be a home run for the Giants if they were able to do that?
Peter Rosenberg
Yes, absolutely. And I think that's what you're trying to do. You know, it's funny, when you said Thibodeau, I had to laugh. Like, which Thibodeau is here in the fall? Both. Tom? Kayvon? Neither.
Don La Greca
You know, it's so weird because, I.
Peter Rosenberg
Don'T know, is it crazy where we are?
Don La Greca
I don't know.
Peter Rosenberg
I'll put my money on Tom, of course, but. But still, like, I. I just. It's funny, though, when you hear that name and it just kind of caught my attention, like, wow, it's. It's another player they could move on from and get some kind of value for him. If you're going to get a guy like Carter or you decide to load up. But look, as you said, generational talent. But we all know I, I thought Olofsky, of all the things that have been said and again, all of us talking heads, we have a lot to say just to fill the time. But he said something I really do agree with is you could talk all you want about a generational talent at edge rusher, you can talk about a generational talent at cornerback, even at wide receiver. But we all know the only one that, that shakes a franchise and Peter, you know this better than anybody is the quarterback. And until you get one, you are searching for one. And, and so the opportunity for the Giants to find one is here. Even though it might not be at the top of the draft and the so called best player, it doesn't mean you can't find your Jalen hurts Dak Prescott, like anybody like that, that could end up being the one that you didn't see coming in a year from now, you go, wow, what a great job Joe Shane did being agile enough to jump back into the first round and grab player X. And that guy now has become your generational quarterback. It's possible.
Michael Kay
Totally. It's a, it's a what you guys just spun felt nice. And it could happen. And then, and then still we'll wait and see what ends up happening, right. You know, six to ten months from now.
Don La Greca
And listen, if Cam Ward turns out to be the next great quarterback in the NFL, then you would have wished the Giants lost that game against Indianapolis and got him. Yeah, but we don't know. And that would have been it, right? There wouldn't be any trading back into the first round. It would be, this is our guy, we wait till the second round, we'll go get some depth. Maybe there's a defensive player that fell, but you'd be done at quarterback. You'd have guys to mentor him for next year. And then you see and maybe it works out. But there's a very good chance it doesn't work out. I feel like, and I could be dead wrong about this, that I have more confidence that Carter will be great than Ward. And I certainly have more confidence that Carter will be great than any of the other quarterbacks beyond Ward. And if, and there's not value in taking a quarterback at three you don't like, but boy, all of a sudden he looks pretty sexy at 34 or trading back in and maybe trading to 20 and grabbing, you know, grabbing him. We'll see.
Michael Kay
There are, there are certain men or Women, where you see him at the bar at 9:15.
Don La Greca
And you go.
Michael Kay
You see him at the bar at 12:45, you go, My God.
Don La Greca
I don't know how politically, again, I don't keep score of what's politically correct or not. That's why we have a dump button. Well, round the start, round two. All right. Anthony stood up. Round two is the, you know, the beer goggles portion of the track.
Peter Rosenberg
Right.
Michael Kay
That's fair, right?
Don La Greca
I mean, that's good, right?
Michael Kay
Like, why wouldn't it be?
Don La Greca
It's like, listen, know two is beer goggles. Well, I'm just. I would think that like maybe four. I think. No, for a quarterback. Absolutely.
Peter Rosenberg
All right. I got for a quarterback.
Don La Greca
If you're taking a quarterback at three, it's 7:30. They just opened the doors. You know, the DJ is not even set up yet. Right.
Peter Rosenberg
All right.
Don La Greca
But in the second round, it's for a quarterback. Yeah, they're calling last call.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, you're right about that. Especially quarterback. It is last call. Second round is definitely last call for anybody worth the time.
Don La Greca
Right.
Peter Rosenberg
So quarterback. That's a good point. But it's. It also to me, the later you take that quarterback, that still might be dead sexy, but just might have just had a bad hair day, that quarterback doesn't have to play. And maybe that's something that also when you consider the market, the desperation and all the other things and then the fact that you have, you know, Wilson or. Or Jameis, whichever guy's going to be ended up with the job, is that there isn't that. That he's got to play. Why did I take him third overall? He's got. And Tom Brady has talked about this a ton about rushing the process. And there are quarterbacks who have talent but might need time. And those guys are the ones that you do get later on, late first, early second. And if you give them that time, maybe they could become something. Now, as I say this, I'm going through my head of recent guys who were taken later, and the only one that stands out, of course, is. Hurts. Everybody else sucked. So you're just hoping that's not the case here. And you're also hoping that the Giants aren't going to feel that. That desperation that you took them so high. You better play him out of the gate.
Don La Greca
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
You won't have to because that's what the fans want.
Don La Greca
You won't have to be. The only way that they'll even be rumblings about playing that young quarterback would be if he is just sick in the preseason and the other guys just fall on their face.
Peter Rosenberg
Right.
Don La Greca
But otherwise, if Wilson and Winston are fine, they're doing the job. You're not going to feel any pressure for a late first round or, or a second round pick that I've got to rush them out there. You know, Sanders is different maybe just because of his name value and the recognition there. But it's not the same pressures if you're taking a guy at three. And I really felt like the. There was no chance they were taking a quarterback at three once they went Winston and Wilson root, that's basically landlocking any young quarterback of getting any kind of a sniff in that first year. So I don't think they're taking a quarterback. I think they're taking Carter. The only thing that can maybe disrupt that would be if the Browns took Carter. But then Hunter would be just as good, right?
Peter Rosenberg
Even better. I'm telling you, even better.
Don La Greca
And in some circles, even better. Just the way Carter's talking right now makes me feel like he knows that he's going to be there at three. And I don't think the Giants could be trading down. I just made. There's two things at play here for me with this opinion of, you know, I feel about tanking. So I just, like, I cringe about all. They won that game against Indianapolis. Why do they do that there? There's part of that and there's also the part of, you know, me just worried about the quarterback situation. But I'm telling you, if they're sitting at one, you take Ward, you're done. We'll see. This seems sexier to me to get Carter or Hunter and finding a way to get one of these young quarterbacks if they, if they walked away with Carter and Dart. How was that?
Peter Rosenberg
Was that grand? Yeah, that would feel. That would definitely feel like, oh, my.
Don La Greca
God, that would be amazing.
Peter Rosenberg
Like, you know how they always. Now we do. We do the mock drafts, then we do the draft reaction, right? We have the prognosticators tell us grades. I would think that scenario right there, the Giants would get an A grade. They would get an A grade. I don't know if it was Milroe because I do think Darches has a lot of, a lot of people who think there's huge upside with him. There's a lot of people who they say he gives you Josh Allen vibes. And we know for Dable, that's exactly what he would want. That's what he worked with in Buffalo, so that's definitely something to watch. But I believe the odds now are changing from Shador Sanders as the number, as the second quarterback taken to Dart being the second quarterback taken. So will the Giants even have that opportunity?
Don La Greca
Yeah, probably.
Peter Rosenberg
That's why I think he's got to be. He's got. He's got to be agile.
Don La Greca
That's why I said grand slam. That would be, you know, that would be the fantasy of everybody. But I think grand slam, home run. I just think the Giants getting Carter and a quarterback, they. You would feel like they did great, they won the draft, they did what they needed to do, and then we'll see what that quarterback can be. But I'm feeling good at there possibly being a quarterback when they pick in the second round or the ability to trade back in. And I think that's what's going to make the Giants so much fun now. Is it enough to save everybody's job? Well, I think from a Shane standpoint, he'd be good. Having a great draft, I think could save him.
Peter Rosenberg
Yep.
Don La Greca
And then it'll be up to Dable to see if he can put all these pieces together and win. But I'm telling you, this defense is going to look pretty good with a healthy Carter. And you know, we're hearing rumblings about his foot, but it seems like he's got all the clearance there. Had a bit of a shoulder issue at the end of last year, too, but he still played in the playoff game, so that's less of an issue as well. But what they did with the secondary and how good that defensive line can be, that you feel like the defense is going to be good. And now you've got a clue at quarterback with Wilson or Winston, which clearly would be better than what you had last year. A running game that surprised a lot of people last year. And in a second year in Malik Neighbors, again, not. I'm not talking playoffs, but if I'm, if I'm Shane and Dable, especially Dable, I could look at this roster and say, I can save my job with this.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, you're not trying to, like, you could say, I can win with this is a different conversation. Saying I can win with this is, I don't think is as accurate as saying I can definitely prove that we now are in the right direction and I can coach this team into something that can win eventually. I don't know if you can say, well, I can win with this, like out of the gate. Unless, of course, they go nascar. And that defense just gets ridiculous with all these guys. You can just keep throwing in to get after the quarterback. And now all of a sudden you become more of a modest offense and a great defense. That could happen because people get too.
Don La Greca
Caught up in record. Like when John Maris said, I don't want to be here next year, people.
Peter Rosenberg
Go, what is here?
Don La Greca
Well, if you win 3, 4. No, but it all depends on how it looks. They were non competitive last year. They were an embarrassment last year. Is it possible that you can have a five, six win season and it looks great and you're in every game and a couple of bounces here or there, maybe you win. You could have won more than that. Then that doesn't look like an embarrassment. That looks like you're moving in the right direction and that you can say that's enough to bring these guys back. But I think a really good draft because I don't. I don't necessarily think they're attached to the hip guys because if Shane has a great draft, agree that could be enough to say, all right, if I'm John Mara, I'm keeping him. And then Dable just completely wets the bed and they lose a bunch of games and say, you know what? Sorry he gave you the talent and you didn't work with it. You're out of a job. Like so I could see Shane saving his job this weekend and then Dable having to save his job with what he does with. With the talent Shane gives them. I don't think they're necessarily at the hip. Everybody assumes that. And they probably would have gone together if there was a firing last offseason. But I think more than Dable today, it's Shane's chance to save his job and I think he can do it as early as tonight.
Peter Rosenberg
I'm curious to see right now.
Michael Kay
I'm pumped. I'm ready to run through a wall for this.
Peter Rosenberg
You are not tomorrow. No, you're not.
Michael Kay
You're mocking me.
Peter Rosenberg
But I want to see if Giants fans are because we. It's really good.
Michael Kay
Quiet mocking it. That was a good SP feel. It's not going to happen. They're going to be 5 and 12, blow everybody out. This team is a joke.
Don La Greca
But.
Michael Kay
No, but I. Not but the moment.
Peter Rosenberg
What a shock from a commander's fan.
Michael Kay
I'm being serious.
Peter Rosenberg
That was why he's seen it before, Don. That's why he knows what it looks like.
Michael Kay
No, it's a good speech. Hey, I'd be motivated.
Don La Greca
I will say this about the Giants and nobody has ripped this team more than me.
Peter Rosenberg
Here we go.
Don La Greca
Michael will tell you all the Years. I will kill this team. I'm not one of those fans where I'm an apologist.
Michael Kay
No.
Don La Greca
But I will say this.
Michael Kay
Go ahead.
Don La Greca
I. We've lived through embarrassment before. They always eventually climb out of it.
Peter Rosenberg
I mean, you can't. Wrong.
Don La Greca
I'm not wrong.
Michael Kay
I just don't think it's tonight or that.
Don La Greca
That's.
Peter Rosenberg
But.
Don La Greca
But this could be the seedlings for when they finally do climb out of it.
Peter Rosenberg
Every decade, don. Every. I think, 80s, 90s.
Don La Greca
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
The early 2000s and the tens. Now, I know those were closer, but.
Michael Kay
Well, those were. Yeah, those kind of bookends.
Peter Rosenberg
But it doesn't matter. 07 and 11 is still 07 and 11. But the point is that they're kind of due for this decade.
Don La Greca
No, but in 95, 96, we were all suffering with Dave Brown, you know? Next thing you know, it's Danny Canel getting him into the playoffs. In 97, they're in a Super Bowl. In 2000, I'm saying this organization has embarrassed itself as much as any team has in New York. And they've done it numerous times in their history. All right? The glory days of the Giants have come and gone, and they've always been followed up with, like, miserable times. Okay? Throughout the late 60s, early 70s, into the mid and late 90s, and what we're going through right now. But they always do like a phoenix rise from the ashes. And we'll see if tonight is where you start to see the ground begin to move. And then one wing comes out, the next wing comes out, and before you know it. Little Peter, for your commanders, it's back to the old days when the Giants beat Washington every single year. What happened to the commanders? Weren't they good once? Weren't they good once?
Michael Kay
It's a nice thought.
Don La Greca
And the Giants winning Super Bowls and the commanders going back into their hole. That is possible, Peter.
Michael Kay
It is.
Don La Greca
Don't rile me up today.
Peter Rosenberg
Let's go. Don just cut a promo.
Michael Kay
He did?
Peter Rosenberg
That's a promo. I don't know if the Giants would use it. Not necessarily.
Don La Greca
No. Listen, that's a promo.
Michael Kay
I really wasn't being sarcastic about it being the speech you want to hear if you're a fan. I just happen to not believe in this group. I think they'll rise from the ashes after this group. This group is dead. They're not going to make it. Good night. Good luck. See you tomorrow. But this is what you have right now, so you got to believe. But for whatever reason, I don't buy it. Yet with this group, I think they're half pregnant. They filled the quarterback room in a way that makes absolutely no sense.
Don La Greca
We want Allen is. We want to Amano.
Michael Kay
I don't, I don't, I don't buy it.
Don La Greca
But let's see.
Peter Rosenberg
All right, well, the Giants fans, for the most part, we've been talking about this, boys. It's been lukewarm. I'm wondering if now, on the eve of the draft, is there some anticipation?
Don La Greca
So let's hear. We got tons of calls. Why don't you get 9193776 Dave in Westchester. Let's get it started here on Don Hanna, Rosenberg.
D
Hey, how you guys doing? I'm actually happy that they, they beat the Colts because if they didn't, then they got to pick Cam Ward. I don't want him. I want Abdul Carter. And I want to ask you guys, guys a question. There's going to be a quarterback in this draft. Not. Don't give me Jackson Dark. Give me somebody else. There's going to be somebody. There's a Brock Purdy there. Joe Montana is not there in the third round. I get that. And neither is Tom Brady. He's not there in the sixth round. But there's going to be somebody in this draft. I don't know who it is. A quarterback who two, three years from there you say, holy Christmas, he's a Pro bowl rose.
Peter Rosenberg
A guy like that guy, who do.
D
You think that guy could be? I like the Louisville guy. Even though he gets hurt all the time. He does everything incredible. This guy's pretty good.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. And that's pretty good.
D
If I got him in the second round and got Abdul Carter in the first round, I'm happy. I'm really, I'm happy.
Peter Rosenberg
Today is Chuck, the guy that's like, like 35 years old? Which, which guy is it that's got 50 years old? Yeah, yeah, yeah, you know, whatever. I mean, look, you sign him to a four year deal and then by the end of the four years he's gonna retire anyways.
Don La Greca
Now the thing that could hurt is if they got to trade back into the and give up a lot of equity to do it, then maybe you look at it a little differently. So we shouldn't just say, oh, if they walk away with Carter and a quarterback, it's a home run. I need to see what that quarterback looks like as far as what he costs. But if it's not that punitive and if somebody does slip to the second round, that's, that's a little bit Of a different story. That's a little bit of a different story. Another David, this one in Queens. You're on ESPN New York.
E
Hey guys, how you doing?
Don La Greca
Good, man.
E
I think I agree Abdul Carter in the first round is absolutely is a slam dunk. The thing that I disagree about, and you guys said this in the beginning, is that the quarterback class isn't good. So then why taking a quarterback, even if it's Jackson Dart or Shador Sanders in the second round, what does that do for you in terms of having a grand slam draft for saying that the quarterbacks aren't good? Why waste even second round pick on one of these quarterbacks?
Peter Rosenberg
Well, it's not quite what we're saying though about quarterback. We're not saying that they're terrible, they're awful, that they're not pros. It's in comparison to some past drafts. They don't project or at least they don't have the same sizzle as past drafts. But we have had quarterback drafts that have been duds. Remember 20, 19, like so. So I don't think, don't go base it off of saying these quarterbacks aren't any good. It's that they don't. There's no talk of generational talent quarterbacks in this draft doesn't mean they're not any good.
Don La Greca
And also maybe it's a bit of a project where. Where high in the first round. That's a guy that you probably feel the pressure to play right away if you take a guy in the second round or trade back into the first round later. Hey, he doesn't necessarily have to play in that first year. We can work with him a little bit. Maybe he doesn't have a great preseason and nobody's killing us for picking him. That's what I'm talking about when we say not a great quarterback draft. There isn't that guy that pops outside of Ward and I think Ward kind of is a de facto first overall because somebody has to be. And Tennessee needs a quarterback and I think he is better. He's clearly better than all the rest. But is he going to be the next Patrick Mahomes? That doesn't feel like that's the case and you just feel differently taking a guy in the second round. I'm with the caller. David. Guys that if you don't like him, you don't like him. Nowhere where you pick him was all going to make you fall in love with a guy. Yeah, but there are different types of love when it comes to quarterbacks and where you pick him means something financially. It means something with the contract. So taking a guy in the second round does change the perspective quite a bit. Hertz being a second round pick is a savior cap wise for Philadelphia than if he was taken high in the first round. Right.
Peter Rosenberg
And keep in mind they had Carson Wentz, they had their guy, but they liked him enough to say we're not going to pass on him. We're going to take him and see what he becomes. And he became their super bowl champion. Starting quarterback Race the rudders, Race the sails.
Don La Greca

It's bring your kid to work day and these kids are just adorable. No one told us. And I kind of brought the talent. Brought anybody, but there's still some adorable kids.
Peter Rosenberg
Brown.
Michael Kay
You bring a kid? Brown didn't bring.
Don La Greca
Oh, Bart Scott brought his daughter. Oh, they let the former player know.
Michael Kay
Of course.
Don La Greca
Not surprised by that. But no, it's all right. The kids, my kids are in school.
Michael Kay
They wouldn't have made Bart brought Gigi.
Don La Greca
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, I love Gigi.
Michael Kay
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
By the way, she's him in female form, which is dangerous. Like she is. She's as funny, if not funnier than him and also doesn't take. Doesn't take it from him. Like, if he's. If he gets on her case. I've been privy to conversations where, like, you talk about a dad, it's wrapped around a finger. Bart Scott is wrapped around her finger like you wouldn't believe. And she, she runs his show. It's unbelievable to watch. This is a guy again, right? 6 foot, 240 pounds, absolute menace on the football field. Total pussycat. When his daughter calls, she runs his show. I love it. She's one of my favorite people. I love Gigi.

Don La Greca
The jets take the seventh overall pick. You know, we'll see where they go there. But Josina Anderson is pretty tapped in. Had sent this tweet earlier today. Notebook. League sources tell me they've heard about the potential availability of jets running back Breece hall within the last week and a half. Now, earlier in the day, Breece hall had tweeted out a crossed fingers emoji. So he's probably looking at, hey, I want to go someplace where they're going to pay me. And maybe the jets aren't or maybe he can win. But Alan, you, I, we both kind of shared the same brain during our meeting today.
Peter Rosenberg
Yep.
Don La Greca
Because I've been saying all along that the jets are kind of just playing it where they just want zero anticipation for the season so that there's no expectations at all. And that's why Rodgers isn't back and they're kind of just starting over. And you took it a step further on how they're going to handle this draft.
Peter Rosenberg
I look at this as their fresh start. This is Darren Mugi, this is Aaron Glenn. And this is not Joe Douglas roster. This is a roster that's going to be built in their image the way they want to play, the way Glenn wants to play. Like, the reason why Mujee got the job is he and Glenn had a meeting, got together and were simpatico. Remember, they had a couple of guys who were finalists for the GM position. Muji emerged as the guy based on the fact that he and Glenn connected. Both had the same game plan, both had the same vision of a type of team they wanted to build. Clearly, it's not going to be Joe Douglas's roster. Right. It's not going to be his team. So that's what I think starts today for the Jets. They have been very quiet. There really hasn't been a lot about the jets, aside from the Rogers stuff. And with the seventh pick, you don't normally get like. You generally will get some kind of sense, but they could go line, they could go tight end, they could go. You don't know what they're going to do because there are a lot of needs. But I just feel like this is the start for them and they aren't looking to do the same things. Like, they're not trying to save their job, they're trying to start new and they're trying to rebuild a roster. And they've got, first of all, a. A surplus at running back. They know it. Braylon Allen showed us last year. This guy's. This guy's a beast. I keep forgetting the other kid's name. Isaiah, the third quarterback, they love him. They think he might be the most talented of the three of them. And you got to pay Breeze Hall. So if you could turn Bruce hall into more assets to help you build forward, knowing I still got a really, really talented running back room, it could be something they end up doing. You can't pay everybody.
Don La Greca
And also the prospect of there may be a team hot for Genti. Can't trade up to get him and say, okay, if I can't get him, I'll get Hall.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, he's still young, very talented.
Don La Greca
So I think there's a lot of things in play. We've heard rumblings that there might be a big deal. Could this be the big deal? So as we're getting closer and closer, we're less than five hours away from the draft starting that there are some things rumbling around. Jets and the Giants on the clock very soon. Should be a lot of fun.
Michael Kay
Can I also throw another interesting football tidbit out there? Andrew Marchion reporting that Robert Griffin III will be the color analyst on the number two Fox team coming this fall.
Peter Rosenberg
The second?
Michael Kay
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
Are you serious?
Don La Greca
Mm.
Peter Rosenberg
Wow.
Don La Greca
So who's college?
Peter Rosenberg
That's gotta be college. That can't be NFL.
Don La Greca
That was disappointing.
Peter Rosenberg
All right.
Don La Greca
That was more of a.
Peter Rosenberg
Because if I'm not, that's a rumor.
Michael Kay
Well, that's the thing. If it was NFL, it was.
Don La Greca
I was in.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Michael Kay
College drops right to DPNN, maybe 622.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, I believe. Isn't the second guy Greg Olson?
Michael Kay
Second guy is Greg Olson.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. Well, that would have been devastating for Greg Olson because he already got knocked out of the top spot.
Don La Greca
Well, if you wanted to hide RG3 from Peter, you'd put him on a college football broadcast, Right? Whatever. Whatever happened to RG3? He could be winning awards. Whatever happened to him?
Peter Rosenberg
You remember RG3? What's he doing these days, you know? Yeah, yeah. Number business anymore.
Michael Kay
Network's number two college football analyst. But I will say this perfect fit for him. That's always what his best on air thing was.
Peter Rosenberg
Yep. Yeah.
Don La Greca
He may find his way to the NFL one day too. He's really good. 1-800-919-3776, Alex in the UPS truck. Oh, yeah, you're on ESPN New York. What's up, Al?
G
What's up, boys? How we doing today?
Peter Rosenberg
Good.
Don La Greca
Good.
Peter Rosenberg
Yep.
G
All right.
Peter Rosenberg
Awesome.
G
Well, you know, this is the time of the year where, you know, we're going to see the Giants hopefully rebuild this team in a good way. I think I agree with you, Don. It would be a home run. You get Abdul Carter, you get Hunter. Now in terms of the second round, because they have those two third round picks. They got the last pick in the third round, right. So they got two third rounds. So they have the ammo to move up. Right. So I could possibly see them getting a quarterback in the second round, moving up. But also like Giants have interest in some running backs is a deep running back draft class, you know, let's see you get Carter, right? And then you move up and then you get Jackson Dart, hopefully. If not, I would keep bulking up this defense and possibly get Omarion Hampton, a good running back. Build the old line. And another point with Peter saying that he doesn't believe in this regime. You know, they inherited a bad situation, a bad cap. It wasn't a good team. And when the first draft, right, five and seven, you get Kayvon, you get Evan Neal. Those were like kind of like no brainer. Picks like go out. Let's get the two best available guys. Evan Neal, for what it's worth, when we drafted him, it seemed like a first year pick. The guy's a mammoth of a man and it hasn't worked out right. But we can move him to guard. He's been a disappointment, but I don't know, man, it's.
Peter Rosenberg
There's a lot to do. Yeah. Alex, what you're saying, what you just did in your call is you, even you, you came in with optimism and you went out with pessimism. You realize there's just a lot to do. So you, you want to have like, like when Don said grand slam, that makes you feel like, do that. And all the fortunes change. I don't think that's what you meant, Don. I think what you meant by grand slam is now you're on your way, now you're cooking. But it doesn't mean it's an instant fix. Wave the wand and now suddenly the Giants are.
Don La Greca
You don't get. You don't. You don't get this stink off you, you know, in one day, no, one year. But something good has to happen where you look back and you say, this was the day that we started to step forward and get the players thing with the running back. I mean, Tracy was so good for them last year. I don't know if I'm drafting a running back that high. Well, there's other needs.
Peter Rosenberg
You mean Ashton. J.T. you want them to take him at 3?
Don La Greca
No, no. He was saying about getting a running back in the second round or even in the third round. Like, I think there's other areas I'd like to get improved on rather than running back. And again, Tracy was really good for them last year. Gray, that will come. All right. See the thing with the jets trading hall, if there's a team that's going to draft Genti or trade for hall, that's a team that thinks they're close. That's why McCaffrey went to San Francisco. That's why you saw the Eagles do what they did. You know, not. Not when you're part of a rebuild. That's not when you're getting running backs.
Peter Rosenberg
Agree.
Don La Greca
1-800-919-3776 let's go to Justin. He's down in Tom's River. You're on espn, New York. How are you, Justin?
F
I'm doing great, guys. Thank you for always. For taking my fall.
Don La Greca
Are you experiencing any problem? You smelling the smoke and stuff down with those fire. I know they're kind of a ways of. But is it close enough that you're. You're seeing it or smelling any of that smoke?
F
Yeah, yesterday we definitely got a lot of soot and ash and definitely you had to have the windows closed yesterday. It's probably 10 or 15 minutes away from where I'm at. Like maybe two X's south on the, on the Garden State Parkway. Seems like it's starting to finally get settled down, but I'm glad you guys asked. You know, a lot of people, unfortunately, a little bit south of us, had a lot of issues, but things are starting to come back to normal.
Don La Greca
Cool, man. What do you got?
F
But I wanted to get it. Yeah, I appreciate it. You know, I wanted to get on the Jet. I know the jets, you know, obviously don't have the buzz of the Giants in this draft, but, you know, Don, I agree with you. The jets are trying to temper expectations, but fairly or unfairly, I think Aaron Glenn's gonna have a lot of pressure unduly because the simple fact is black cloud over the organization with probably going to be 15 years, no playoffs, and just kind of, you know, with the jets where they're at, they're, in my opinion, they're in a total rebuild. You know, we really don't have where Glenn's going to. You know, we really don't have a blueprint for either one of the GM or the, you know, the head coach. I would really like the Jets. Just honestly, you kind of go back to their roots, you know, with how they went with the British off Ferguson and Nick Mangold. I think this team really needs to get the trenches right. You know, I think this team, I think if they get rid of Breeze Hall, I like Breeze Hall a lot, but I think this team's in the total rebuild. I would really like to see them address the trenches, whether it's on the defensive line or offensive line.
Peter Rosenberg
You know what? I got a name for you, Justin. This is a guy that, that Bart pointed out to me months ago and actually Field Yates is, is mocking him. I know it sounds weird to the jets at seven. And this is a. And this is an area of major need. We saw it last year. Mason Graham, the tackle, the defensive tackle from Michigan, big run stopper, big fell in the middle, push through, get to the quarterback.
F
I would like that.
Peter Rosenberg
You know, that's a good.
F
I would really like that pick.
D
Yeah.
F
If you, if you remember with the jets back in 2009 when we had Chris Jenkins with the run stop, the jets have not been able to stop.
Don La Greca
Run up the middle.
F
I, I think, I think him next to Corning Williams would be a great, be a great pick for the jets if that were to happen.
Peter Rosenberg
That was their biggest weakness last year. The middle of that line just collapsed all the time and there was nothing they could do about it. They made bad decisions. Interior defensive line from one year to the other. And that has been the thing. They have not had that guy like again, Dexter Lawrence, like what the Giants have. They need something like that. Mason Graham could fill that bill. That would be a, that would be a great get if they could get him at seven field.
Don La Greca
Yates is on DNR this morning on why Mason Graham, third rated player on.
E
My board, by the way. So head of Ashton Jensey and, you know, a guy that I think has the chance to become a real difference maker in the NFL. The truth is that when you're doing these mocks, you know, if Adam Schefter were doing a mock draft, my guess to Shefte's mock draft would be much more like, what are you hearing? And I'm giving. Shefty would never tell you that. Like, yeah, he's been, you know, watching the tape on all these guys throughout the last several months.
Don La Greca
Right.
E
He gathers information from talking to people because he's the most plugged in man in probably professional sports. And my love draft is a little bit of, you know, what you're hearing at the top of the board. But I also try to use like logic and the value and, you know, the Jets, I think have a, you know, a need for a second defensive tackle opposite of Quinn Williams. Mason Graham's a third rated player on my board. You just hired a head coach who's a defense defensive guy who also, of course, saw what it looked like when you lose all your depths last season. So defensive tackle has also become this premium position.
Don La Greca
It really has. And to add to that strength and to get somebody that field. Yates has the third best player in the draft and getting him at seven.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, yeah.
Don La Greca
I think you'd be pretty happy if you're a Jeff fan if that were to happen.
Peter Rosenberg
Absolutely. It is. When I saw the mock and that's right away, I was like, that's the guy Bart has been talking about for months. And it is that area of need, desperate. We saw it all last season and then they had the injury, if you think about it too, Jermaine Johnson gets hurt and that also affected their ability to get to the quarterback. And then so Quinn and Williams had to do a lot more and they were double teaming him because they could. And the other side of that, that line was just getting collapsed and they were running through it like a hot knife through butter. It was embarrassing. So this is an area they have to address and if they can address it with the first pick of the draft. I know offensive tackles, defensive tackles, it's not sexy. It's a pick. The guy's gigantic. You just go, okay. You know, like, there's really. What are the highlights? The guys, you know, I mean, like, there's not a ton of highlights to really get excited about, so. But that's one of those type of picks that week one first, you know, first series on defense, you're like, oh, that looks different. Different because you have somebody like that. Thanks for listening to the Don Hahn and Rosenberg podcast.
Michael Kay
I didn't listen to anything you just said.

Michael Kay
I don't know who left Trader Joe's gingerbread cookies out there on the counter.
Don La Greca
But you had two.
Michael Kay
I did. I wanted to be honest with you guys. And. And also, Alan, something else big. Since you've headed to Detroit, they've replaced the water only machine.
Peter Rosenberg
No.
Michael Kay
With a water and ice maker machine.
Don La Greca
Oh, hell yes.
Peter Rosenberg
That's an upgrade.
Michael Kay
How about that? So if you want to do an ice matcha situation, you got ice now. It's really lovely.
Peter Rosenberg
What do we think of the fact that they just bumped Triumph here in the 313 in the arena?
Michael Kay
You mean Wu Tang Triumph?
Peter Rosenberg
Yes.
Michael Kay
I like the sound of it very much.
Peter Rosenberg
I. I heard this and like, the head starts bobbing. It's almost like instinctual.
Don La Greca
I. I thought you were talking about the. The comic insult.
Michael Kay
Right, but isn't it funny? Isn't it funny, Alan? We talk, we point out Alan's weird idiosyncrasies music.
Peter Rosenberg
I know, but.
Michael Kay
No, I'm gonna throw in a Don for you, Alan. Don will sit here and rap Method man and other songs from Enter the Wu Tang. I think if we were to play him Triumph, he'd be completely lost. Say he's never heard it once.
Don La Greca
Probably not.
Michael Kay
Isn't that funny?
Peter Rosenberg
He has. He has, I think, Triumph.
Don La Greca
You gotta realize something with my hip hop knowledge, basically, is from a guy by the name of Bill McNulty, used to work at Sportsfire. Right. And he would say, you gotta listen to this. And he would give me the CD.
Michael Kay
Right. So 36 when McNulty said it.
Don La Greca
Yeah. And he'd give it to me and I'd listen to it and I'd be like, this is wonderful. Never gave me any thought to go purchase more Wu Tang. That was my Wu Tang. It's like OG Original Gangster.
Peter Rosenberg
I need that drop.
Don La Greca
You need this album. I'm like, I do. He's like, yeah, take it home with you.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, it's got to be in your collection.
Don La Greca
And I'm like, whoa, this is. This is amazing.
Peter Rosenberg
Like, if you had to. If you had like all of your CDs that you ever owned in your life and. And you know, you were told you can only keep 10, that's one.
Michael Kay
Wait, weren't you in Detroit a couple of weeks ago? Yeah, this is the same dj.
Don La Greca
He.
Peter Rosenberg
Now there's no dj no, there's no dj.
Michael Kay
Oh, so this is the same playlist. Now he's playing. Now they're playing big. L. Put it on.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Michael Kay
Whoever made this playlist plays underground hip hop. New York, old school hip hop.
Don La Greca
How's they figure who's in the. Who's in the building?
Michael Kay
It's just Alan Hahn.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. Nobody knows. Nobody knows what you're really doing here? Laying the groundwork. I love it.
Michael Kay
So were you gonna ask Don if he could only choose 10 CDs if any hip hop would make the cut?
Peter Rosenberg
No, no, no. Well, I wasn't asking him that. I was just saying. Oh. If. If you'd have to. This album would have to be like. Like this is that, you know, if you were deserted on an island, what albums would you want? It's always funny because I'd rather have electricity. Like, how am I going to play the album? But the whole idea is, if you. If you had to. This is. That's an album that you'd want to have if you could only have 10 for the rest of your life.
Don La Greca
About 36 chambers.
Michael Kay
Yes, that sits up there.
Don La Greca
But I loved every song.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, but it's all that matters.
Don La Greca
But most normal human beings, we go. Let me. Let me tap into this Wu Tang thing and see if the other albums are good. Same thing with Ice Tea OG Original Gangster. I don't know any other album.
Michael Kay
No, but you. But you know the song New Jack Hustler?
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, you know New Jack Hustler?
Don La Greca
Well, because it was from the movie, right?
Michael Kay
You know from the movie.
Don La Greca
Sure. New Jack City. That's right. But. But I. It didn't make me go on to get that album.
Peter Rosenberg
Okay, what do you guys think of Joe Shane son posting on his Instagram story? A Jackson dart highlight reel. Oops. Remember his. By the way, Joe Shane's son knows. Knows Ball.
Don La Greca
Yeah, but.
Peter Rosenberg
Because you remember, he wanted. How old was he?
Don La Greca
Remember?
Peter Rosenberg
Teenager, 13, probably high school kid.
Don La Greca
You got to tell your son to stand down, man.
Peter Rosenberg
No, no, he knows ball. He's. You know what he's doing. He's putting the pressure on his dad.
Don La Greca
No, but that's what I'm saying. So Joe Shane's got to stay.
Michael Kay
Stop.
Don La Greca
I don't need any more pressure. I'm a general manager at the New York Giants. Stop.
Peter Rosenberg
Or the kids saying, I could do the job better than you, dad, step aside.
Don La Greca
No, that. I can't. No, that's. I. That's not. That's not good, man.
Peter Rosenberg
You don't like it?
Michael Kay
It's interesting. But you don't want your kid.
Don La Greca
Oh, no. It's interesting doing that. Yeah. You would tell your son to stop, right? You would. If Zach was doing that to you, you'd say, stand down, son.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, I would probably say that's not a good idea. It's bad for business. But it just funny how the kid seems to know. Like, he knows stocks. He knows the stock does. He's very good at the stocks. He gets it.
Don La Greca
He knows what's going to hit, but we don't know. Jackson dart may not be any good.
Peter Rosenberg
I think he's gonna hit. I think he's gonna be good.
Don La Greca
All right.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. Do you want to tell what, what the rewind the headline.
Don La Greca
So what's going to happen is. And it's an. It's an Allen Han vehicle. Thursday's at 4:30. It's. It's called the Thursday rewrite. So we take something from recent history, or maybe we even go deep into the past and rewrite it and do like the classic what if, Peter and how would things have changed?
Peter Rosenberg
I got a good one today, Nick. Fans are going to.
Don La Greca
I don't want to steal any of Allen's, but just like, you know, Draft day is also a great day to do that. You know, what if. You know, what if the Giants didn't take Phil SIMS and took O.J. anderson instead? That's who was on the board. End up getting O.J. anderson later. Like, how much of that would have changed? Would they have still won Super Bowl 21? Who would have been their quarterback? Stuff like that. I think that could be a lot of fun. And he's got one for the Knicks today, so that's what we're going to do.
Michael Kay
I love what you're doing.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. Knick fans are going to hate it, but you're going to. They're going to secretly love it, but they're going to really hate it.
Don La Greca
Because the reason I think it's fun, especially during the draft. Like I always have this conversation with Bottle. Like, Buttle was drafted by the jets out of Penn State in 1976. He met his wife here. He's made a living here, including being the pre and post for the jets for over 20 years. What if he was drafted by the Seahawks?
Michael Kay
Yeah.
Don La Greca
Who would he have married? What would he be doing for a living? Where would he be living? You know, what if the Steelers drafted him? How many Super Bowls would he have won? Like, his whole life would have changed. And at least in college, guys, you get to choose where you go. But in the NFL, unless you're a Manning. You basically, you gotta go where you're drafted, right? And that's your whole life. He's a kid from Atlantic City who now has made a life and a family on Long island, all because the jets picked him.
Peter Rosenberg
It's great. Crazy. By the way of the low key. What a hell of a life stories Greg Buttle. Like, when you think right, you think about like what a, what a life. He saw stuff, he experienced stuff he did.
Don La Greca
I'm telling you, when win, it's a win afterwards. One of the great winning streaks we've seen.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh my God.
Don La Greca
I mean, just talking about, you know, family, career right up there, stories I can't even begin to tell you on the air, things that I've seen personally where I said that only winners can have that happen.
Michael Kay
Really?
Don La Greca
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
Charmed Life. That's, that's that probably the name of his autobiography.
Don La Greca
But as Greg would say, I don't think charm had much to do with it. 1-800-91937, Dave in the car. You're on ESPN New York. What's up, Dave? Hi, Dave.
D
Hey, what's up, guys? I hate to be like, hey, what's up, guys? I hate to be like the guy who's always kind of throwing daggers, but I'm looking at Dable and the Giants. He's supposed to be a quarterback whisperer. And everyone's like, he is. Final report, all the players love him. Outside of inheriting Daniel Jones, what has translated into actually looking at people follow his leadership in the Giants organization, especially a quarterback, if he's so crafted at what he did with Josh Allen, which I think they need to stop saying Josh Allen's just, he's, he, he's the man. Wherever he was going to go, he'd.
Peter Rosenberg
Have to go to a really trashy organization. Before you say that, just to be fair, go ahead, ask Josh Allen what Brian Dabel meant to. Before you just assume things. I just, just want to say that just, you know, you can have an opinion, but you know, that's, that's one a little careless. Like, don't, don't just throw that out there like he would have been great or what. You got to ask Josh Allen that question. And I can tell you that he'd tell you that.
Don La Greca
But you're right, Dave does. That doesn't always translate into being a great head coach, of course. So we'll see. I kind of lean towards Dave. I lost a lot of confidence in Dable. I think the last couple of years have really exposed him. I Think he got exposed in 22 in Philadelphia.
Peter Rosenberg
Donnie. I think his biggest. His biggest problem is his temper. I don't think it's his X's and O's. I don't think it's strategy. I think he sees the game. He's a. He's a really smart. When you talk football, he's smart, man. I think his problem is he gets too emotional, gets too caught up in things. Like, I think that that gets to him. And especially when his quarterbacks turn the football over, he loses his mind.
Don La Greca
But you know what? They're all savants in some way. I mean, he showed during hard knocks how much football he knows. Yeah, but does that necessarily translate, being a great head coach, not being able.
Peter Rosenberg
To work it out with Wink? Wink, it was a tremendous coordinator and not. Not understanding that. All right. Like, I know he's going to act up because that's what Wink is. Wink's a big personality. He's like that. It's like having Rex Ryan on your staff. But you also got to know that my defense is really good, and I got to lean on this. So, you know, we'll deal with it internally, and I'll make sure I can handle it. That's. I think Dave's problem is as a CEO. I just think he's got to get better.
Don La Greca
If Dave is right, then we're going to find out. Because. Because I think there's a chance here for Shane to get him some weapons and do something in this season. Again, nothing special as far as, like, playoffs or winning the division, but just getting better. And if he doesn't, he'll be out of a job. So maybe Dave will get his wish. Dave's not wrong, but we'll ultimately find out. We've been saying, I thought 22 was done with smoke and mirrors, and it ended in a terrible way, and they haven't been able to get up from it. But he's been given an opportunity here to make something, something happen in 2025. Let's see if he can do it. We got to talk about the Knicks. Allen's in Detroit Game threes in a best of seven series or are just absolutely huge. Boy, does up to one look a lot different than down to one for the Knicks. So Allen's gonna be on the call. We're gonna hear from him from Detroit on this. We got plenty of Thibodeau sound. We've got Carl Anthony Towns. Huge game tonight. We're gonna dive into that. We'll get back to the draft. Of course, we've got the Thursday rewrite coming up at 4:30 and we've got enn at 6. It's don hahn and rosenberg on 8:80 espn and the espn.
Michael Kay

The Don Hahn and Rosenberg podcast. I don't want to know how the sausage is made, but I just want to know it's good. Hear more of Don Allen and Peter weekday afternoon starting at 3 on 8 80, ESPN, the ESPN New York app and your smart speakers.
Podcast Information:
The discussion opens with a deep dive into the New York Giants' draft strategy. Don La Greca emphasizes the significance of the Giants holding the first overall pick, suggesting they target Abdul Carter, a "generational talent on the defensive line" ([03:01] Don La Greca). He argues that securing Carter would bolster the Giants' defensive prowess, potentially saving the jobs of GM Joe Schoen and Head Coach Dave Dables.
Notable Quote:
La Greca further explores the possibility of the Giants selecting a quarterback in the second round, highlighting the importance of finding a viable QB option to complement their defense. He posits that even if the quarterback picked isn't a superstar like Patrick Mahomes, developing a solid player could prove invaluable in the long term.
Notable Quote:
Peter Rosenberg concurs, adding that while the quarterback pool this year might not boast top-tier talents, there's always potential for a hidden gem to emerge as a franchise cornerstone.
Notable Quote:
Shifting focus to the New York Jets, the hosts discuss the team’s current rebuilding phase. Peter Rosenberg and Don La Greca agree that the Jets are not merely trying to salvage their season but are undertaking a comprehensive rebuild with new management and coaching strategies. They highlight that the Jets are looking to build a roster that reflects the visions of their new front office, particularly emphasizing defensive improvements.
Notable Quote:
The conversation touches on the Jets' potential trade strategy, especially regarding running back Breece Hall, whose availability could present pivotal moves for the team. The hosts speculate on whether the Jets might trade Hall to acquire assets that better fit their long-term rebuilding goals.
Notable Quote:
A significant portion of the podcast is dedicated to analyzing the quarterback class in the 2025 NFL Draft.
