Don Hahn
Oh, it's a Monday. Hopefully everybody had a phenomenal weekend. Passover and Easter. And now we get to the nitty gritty. Get deeper April, lots of baseball to discuss. We've got football news. We've got a national champion that's gonna be crowned tonight. How is everybody doing on this Monday?
Alan Hahn
All good.
Don Hahn
Oh boy, oh boy oh boy is right. A lot of news to get into.
Peter Rosenberg
A lot happening right now.
Don Hahn
Right out of the box Lindor placed on il, there was some speculation that it was just day to day that he'll be back maybe his early as their game against the Diamondbacks on Tuesday, which by the way has been shifted to 4 o' clock on Tuesday and Wednesday because apparently it's going to be January the next couple of nights in New York Yankees have not shifted their game against the A's yet. We'll get into that. But Soto on the IL and when you look at the runs the Mets scored without Soto in the lineup, maybe you don't care.
Peter Rosenberg
That was exactly my first feeling was I was like well that's interesting.
Alan Hahn
Are you sure?
Don Hahn
Well, I'm being hyperbolic but I would hope so. It is interesting though that runs were not a problem even even yesterday. They get the big four run inning to win that game and come from behind fashion but otherwise they were bludgeoning a team that's not very good in San Francisco but still getting the job done now 64 to start the season but clearly you want Juan Soto in the lineup but the Mets unable to survive it. We'll see what they could do against the Diamondbacks, but it unquestionably will be
Peter Rosenberg
interesting to watch them over this time though. And you know, I think the default has been Lyndor seems to be sort of the cog. He is the thing that is making this thing awkward. And the truth is, Don, we don't know exactly what's going on there. It'll just be interesting to see what they play like. Is there a different loser? What if they are a different team?
Don Hahn
The narrative, as you say, all right, there's something going on between him and Lindor, and now all of a sudden, he goes away and the Mets start to hit. But I just think it's early in the season and these things are going to happen that sometimes you're going to hit, sometimes you're not going to hit. And it probably. I think if you've got Juan Soto, you want him in the lineup for sure. So that's a topic of conversation that just broke.
Peter Rosenberg
And by the way, I will say props to Lindor, who still managed to go over five yesterday with Soto out of the lineup. So he's still managing to bat under.140, which is impressive.
Don Hahn
Well, it's early in the season. Right. And he's coming back from the hamate bone surgery, so he's got that to deal with as well. But the other topic of conversation is Dexter Lawrence. Sexy Dexy. I don't want that's a thing out.
Alan Hahn
It is. It is.
Peter Rosenberg
Sexy dexy.
Don Hahn
Oh, yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
Who's doing that?
Don Hahn
Every blur doing it.
Peter Rosenberg
Anthony, you and your people do this.
Alan Hahn
I don't do it, but no, I know that it's a thing.
Peter Rosenberg
It's a thing.
Alan Hahn
It's his thing, actually.
Peter Rosenberg
He calls himself that. Let him go then. I made up my mind. We honor your trade.
Don Hahn
That's it.
Peter Rosenberg
That.
Don Hahn
That's.
Peter Rosenberg
That's why. That's it.
Don Hahn
In meetings, that's heck of a player. But that Sexy Dexy, we can't have him have that nickname.
Peter Rosenberg
Stop it.
Don Hahn
But I've always felt this way. Guys, Jordan Ronan is going to join us coming up in a couple of minutes. Just give us all of the details. They can't work out a contract. This is a Pro bowl player. This is a guy that will not be 29 years old until November. So there's that feeling like, really, you're trying to build a defense. He's been the best part of that defense for a long time. But two factors for me, guys, he was miserable last year. I mean, to the point where Carl Banks called him out on the air for how poorly he played. So clearly, the contract was a thing for him last year, and it certainly affected his play. So you wonder Is this maybe the beginning of the end for him? And also, I've always felt this way. If you don't want to play for me, goodbye now. I'm not going to sit there and beg you to stay.
Jordan Raanan
All right.
Don Hahn
Giants got themselves a quarterback. It looks like they got themselves a coach. They've got some talented players. You don't want to be here, goodbye, now. I'm not going to cut off my nose, despite my face. I'm not going to put myself in cap hell. I'm not going to make a deal that's not going to help my team. But guys, from a fan perspective and a business perspective, if a player knocks on your door and says, I don't want to be here, goodbye. Well, if it's.
Alan Hahn
But what if it's him?
Don Hahn
What.
Alan Hahn
What if it's him saying, I don't want to be here if you don't want to pay me what I'm worth in the market for what I do for you. Knowing that. What, does he have another year left?
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, he.
Alan Hahn
And he's, you know, again, as we know, in the. In the NFL, like any other sport, the top players, the number goes up every year, right? It's constantly going up. Before last year, before he had the surgery off season, he didn't have a good year last year. A lot of it had to do. There was some thought it maybe off season. But I mean, if you're talking about a guy that when he's healthy and he's 28, it's not like he's south of. I mean, north of 30 and on his way down, but when he's healthy, he's one of the best in the sport at his position. There's no argument. Everybody says it. So I think when you start getting that feedback from the organization that, yeah, we don't really want to work. We work your deal or any of that stuff, he's probably like, well, all right, well, what am I doing here? Why am I here then? And that's probably what's going on here. This isn't just, I don't want to be here just because I don't want to be here. I think it's just, you know, I read, I see what's going on. This is a new regime. I'm not your guy. You probably. They. Who knows what the story is? But he's been trying to get his deal reworked. Last year was not a good time to do it because he's coming off an injury, coming off surgery, didn't have a great year, but at Some point knowing that the clock's ticking on your current contract. Is it? You know, am I going to get paid? No. Okay, well, why don't we just move on? Let's go me go somewhere where they want me and I can get an extension and I can feel at peace rather than wondering what I'm doing here. Wasting my time as getting late in his career.
Don Hahn
I get that. But like, we live in a salary cap world, you know, this used to happen all the time. Remember Ricky Henderson would always show up late to camp. Lawrence Taylor, There were guys that always wanted to renegotiate their contract.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, Darrell Rivas.
Jordan Raanan
Right.
Don Hahn
But at least Darrell revisit was during a cap. So as good as he was, like, these players have to understand, all right, we are in a cap sport and in football we're in a hard cap sport. So we have to make some decisions not based on how much we like you, but what money is available, what the situation is. You're coming off a bad season. Yeah. Gonna be 29 years old, is still very young, but you know how long. There's a lot that things that are attached here that all has to be part of the discussion. And you've got a brand new coach and there's an error that this is kind of where you want to be and now you're demanding a trade. Maybe it's just a fan of me. It's like, dude, if you don't want to be here, man, then let's make. Let's work something out so you can go someplace that's going to pay you. But you know, what if he went out there and balled out, had a great season, make it difficult for the Giants if he did not have that kind of a season.
Alan Hahn
Right.
Don Hahn
And I just wish these players would understand what I'm worth. What you are worth is depending on how much money is under the cap. And there's a lot of things that have to be done with this roster, guys. Because as good as Dexter Lawrence has been for the New York Giants, which has been outstanding aside from last year, there hasn't been a lot of winning going on with his organization.
Alan Hahn
That part's true. That part's true. But a lot of it you can't really put on his shoulder.
Don Hahn
No, but I'm just saying is this is the decisions you have to make. It's like, dude, you've been great. You've been our best defensive player. We've never gotten more than nine wins. So it obviously shows that we've got a lot of other holes We've got it figured out, the position you play, and I think the defensive line is really good, but we've got a secondary to rebuild. We got to get weapons for our quarterback. We've got a hardball trying to build the team in his image, which is going to be a little bit of ground and pound. We've got to build a team here. And it's not so much of we don't like you or we don't want to have you. It's just that we've got a lot of holes to fill. We just can't pay our best players the top dollar and then go at it. And then you'll be the first to complain if they go out and win six games next year because they can't score any points. And the defense is sucking win because they can't stop. Anybody with a poor secondary like this is all attached to be able to build a team that can win. So don't make it about yourself. Don't make it about, well, why don't you pay me what I'm worth? Okay, here's one reason why. You played terrible last year. And we've got to be able to distribute this money because we've got. We're leaking like a sieve. We've been an embarrassment of an organization the last three years. Harbaugh's trying to fix it. Shane's trying to fix it. So I know you got to care about yourself. I get that. But can you at least take a step back and go, there's other things going on here. It's not the Giants disrespecting their defensive player. God, it's just frustrating, man.
Alan Hahn
It's frustrating whatever you want, but it's business. The, like, this is business. And I'm. I am your best defensive player. I have been. I continue to be. I'm 28, so I'm not yet. I'm not out of my prime yet, but there's not many years left of my prime, as you know, at this position and my size. And I am not anywhere near one of the highest paid players at my position anymore. And we know how it works. Yes, there's a cap, but it's funny money. You can move things around and make sure you take care of what, Again, this is, from the player perspective, the most important defensive player you have. And so do you want to do that? No. Okay. Well, you don't really value me, and I don't want to be on a team that doesn't value me in my, like, remaining four, three prime Years, four prime years, whatever it is that I have left. So let me find a place that could use a player like me and is willing to give me the money because of what I can do. And you go ahead and do whatever you are going to do because you're obviously prioritizing other things. It's just, it's a bit. To me, it's business. It's a new regime coming in. It's Harbaugh. It's certainly not Joe Shane. It's Harbaugh and it's a new regime. And you're just looking like, do you value me or not?
Chris Carlin
No.
Alan Hahn
Okay, well, I gotta go somewhere.
Peter Rosenberg
It totally makes sense for the era that we live in. This. This is the era that we live in. I also feel what Don is saying, though, it is sort of irritating.
Alan Hahn
Yes, it is.
Peter Rosenberg
That this is so you don't even have to have a great year and you still have not just this year, but another year left on your deal.
Alan Hahn
But they have an out, though. That's the thing. You can, you can cut me at any moment. That's the problem, I think, is that you have an out after this year.
Peter Rosenberg
So he's. But. But if you think that you're going to ball out this year, I guess ultimately you worry that you're get hurt again, which is exactly why they don't want to give you the money.
Alan Hahn
That's okay. Now you see, again, I'm not saying that this makes sense.
Peter Rosenberg
That's the conundrum.
Alan Hahn
I'm just saying it's. This is the business part of it. And if he was a player of value, they find a way. In a cap world, they found a way to pay Darrell Rivas. In a cap world, you find a way to pay your left tackle. You find a way to pay important
Don Hahn
players who have holdouts.
Alan Hahn
We look at the Niners. The Niners have had to go through this for the last couple off seasons. Whether it's Trent Williams or anybody else, you always got to figure out, well, we don't want to lose them, how do we keep them? So that. I think that's. This is more about a business thing than it is anything personal, of course,
Don Hahn
but like when you say value, make it happen. There's a lot of holes that need to be filled on a team that, you know, has won eight games combined over the last two years. So a lot of work has to get done here. While a guy that can connect all the dots, Ron uncovers the Giants for espn and he joins us here at. Don, how are you, sir?
Jordan Raanan
What's going on, guys? How are we doing today?
Don Hahn
Hey, it's frustrating because, you know, the Giants are trying to build something here, and their best defensive player wants a trade. All right, so where do we stand right now in what direction we're going with this? I guess.
Jordan Raanan
Well, Dexter Lawrence is not going to be with the Giants during their offseason program, at least beginning tomorrow. He wants a new deal. As a matter of fact, he'd rather. After not getting the new deal, I should say, he wants out. We'll now see how the Giants play this. Do they then try and go back to him and give him a financial offer that maybe keeps him happy, or does he force himself out? And I think that's, you know, how. How strongly does he feel about wanting to leave is the question right now, and how strongly the Giants feel that they need to have him there? Because you have to understand, the Giants went about this offseason planning as if he was going to be there. Denard Wilson, new defensive coordinator, was a big fan. Noted. He was a big difference maker. We're here from here from him tomorrow, actually, for the first time. But I've heard that he was a big fan. He wanted to keep him. He wanted to make sure he was there in the middle of the defense. John Harbaugh, what do you call it? He called it not a. Not a keystone, but a middle stone of their defense is how he described it. And he wanted them to be their middle stone. So now they made all their plans with him in the middle, and it would be hard to, you know, adjust that on the fly because they're already short at that position, guys.
Peter Rosenberg
Mm.
Alan Hahn
It's not an easy position to fill either. Or find somebody that is worthwhile, even though somehow the Eagles just seem to do it easily. Jordan, how much of this is business, though? Seriously? This is just strictly about numbers and about make me feel special because I'm no longer one of the top paid tackles in the game and I should be.
Jordan Raanan
Nah, I think it's bigger than that. If you looked at Dexter Lawrence and you looked at his face and you looked at his actions over the last couple years, you could sense the frustration boiling. And let me just tell you this. You can figure it out real quickly when I tell you this. Two of Dexter Lawrence's closest friends on the Giants. Number one is. Maybe his closest friend in the world right now is Leonard Williams. Okay. He got traded. Experienced success elsewhere. How about Saquon Barkley, another one of his close friends, probably his other. If I. If you had Name like two of his closest friends. Those are probably them. They move on. They see success. Not only do they see success, right. New deals, more money. They won Super Bowls. I think the frustration of losing has started. Has worn on Dexter Lawrence over these past couple years greatly.
Alan Hahn
That's weird. Heading in the right direction.
Don Hahn
And you know what? I would get all of that if we're sitting here today with Brian Dabel as the head coach of the team and no changes had taken place. All right. They went out and got themselves a quarterback everybody's excited about. They went out and got the best head coach that was available. So that. That isn't a reason to believe that they've turned the corner, that they're moving in the right direction. I get the losing is frustrating, but it's not like they didn't do something about it. And also, he was miserable last year on the field. Did not perform well.
Alan Hahn
All right.
Don Hahn
And a lot of the reasons those guys are gone. I know Shane is still here, but you went out and got John Harbaugh, so I understand the losing frustrates you, but wouldn't you get excited about the changes that were made?
Jordan Raanan
I think he would be on board with the changes if they then showed him the love in return and adjusted his contract.
Don Hahn
So is it about the losing or the money? All right, so all the frustration goes away when I get paid.
Jordan Raanan
I think it's a combination. I think he would prefer to be elsewhere, to be honest with you. That just means
Don Hahn
let's do. Just aggravates me, guys that, oh, I'm sick of the losing. All my friends left and they're winning and getting their contracts. All right, well, you got John Harbaugh. Okay. That's not enough to move you. But now if I pay you and I make you the highest paid nose tackle in football, then everything's okay.
Jordan Raanan
That usually works. That's usually how it works. Don't I want to get paid?
Don Hahn
And that's what it should be. I don't want to hear about his frustrations. Who is the player?
Jordan Raanan
Miles Garrett. Miles Garrett wanted out. What happened to Miles Garrett got paid and he. All of a sudden he was happy.
Don Hahn
Right, Right.
Jordan Raanan
And. But let's be honest, and I know he did not play well, but we also have to consider this with Dexter Lawrence and his situation. He had his best season the year before, and they didn't really want to negotiate and reward him for it. And so just because he's coming off his worst season, statistically, at least now, I don't think that changes the situation that much he still wants to be addressed accordingly. He's the 10th highest paid defensive. I'm just giving you his perspective. I'm not. I don't. To a degree. I mean, he's coming.
Alan Hahn
I'm not yelling at you.
Don Hahn
I'm yelling at the situation.
Jordan Raanan
I understand, but he's the 10th highest paid interior defensive lineman to defensive tackling John Franklin Myers. I don't even believe count. Guys like that who are defensive linemen don't even count in that. So we're talking about guys who are strictly on the interior. He's the 10th highest paid guy. That's where he's looking at him.
Don Hahn
Right. Then that's it. That's all. That's all I'm saying is then that's it. I don't want to hear about, you know, his friends leaving and all of the losing. I understand.
Jordan Raanan
If they were winning, it would be more palatable. No, I mean, if you're winning and you won a Super bowl and you're
Don Hahn
in this great situation, I wonder.
Alan Hahn
I don't know about that.
Don Hahn
I wonder, Jordan, sometimes.
Alan Hahn
I don't know about that. If you're winning, you'd want even more money because you're helping them win.
Don Hahn
And again, I don't want to begrudge these guys. Listen, I know, but it's in a. It's just frustrating Jordan too, because it's cap sport, right? So you're not giving out gold watches. You're not throwing extra money to guys to keep them happy. There are decisions that have you made and Jordan, you cover this team. There's a lot of holes. There's a lot of things they're going to have to spread around here. And giving a big contract, even if it's deserved, does affect the rest of the roster and the building and making sure that. Not this year.
Jordan Raanan
As a matter of fact, it would. As a matter of fact, if they do it and they get. They adjust the. Adjust this contract, the likelihood is they can make the cap hit lower this year and get more and that's how you could create more money. So it's not. It's not going to keep you from adding guys. The problem is who you adding. Don.
Alan Hahn
Right.
Jordan Raanan
It's already so late in free agency that it's really hard. You needed to do this if, if everybody wanted this to actually get done and have him, you know, move along. This should have been done two months ago.
Don Hahn
Oh, for this year. But, you know, there's other. There's other years, too. You know, people forget that when you start doing these contracts, yeah, it might free some money up or you know, maneuver things around for 26. But then you've got 27, 28. Now he's getting a little older now he's now he's in his early 30s like so you definitely have to project out what any kind of a contract, especially when you start redoing these things. Right. Jordan, mean, educate me on this. But I do know that when you start changing things in the now, you're kicking the can down the road and eventually it's going to affect you cap wise.
Alan Hahn
Yeah.
Don Hahn
27, 28.
Jordan Raanan
The Giants right now have very little in the future because they haven't had enough good players to resign long term. So they're actually very healthy for the next few years. That that should be the least of their problem. Their problem is finding really good players that are at the level of Dexter Lawrence. That's the bigger concern here. If you don't have Dexter Lawrence, like, yeah, sure, you can get multiple picks. Let's just say you could get two second round picks. Right. Because I asked around and the general consensus for people that I talk to is okay, you can get maybe a late first or you know, a second and a second of some sort this year and something else maybe. But then you're adding rookie players, you're adding young players. Their question marks, they're not Dexter Lawrence year one for sure.
Peter Rosenberg
Let me Jordan, real quick. If you're just to predict on this date and obviously it's what is it? April 6? How and when does this get resolved?
Jordan Raanan
My guess is it gets resolved with more money.
Peter Rosenberg
And when do you think?
Jordan Raanan
What are we in? We're in April. Doesn't need to be a huge rush before the end of the off season program. May, mid May.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, so you don't think we'll be sitting here in training camp talking about it?
Jordan Raanan
It's possible. I mean but Dexter Lawrence didn't want to get this point he is worried about. I think he's a player that is he go look at back of what he said. He was very careful about saying he's injured and denying, you know, being unhappy when everybody knew that was the case last year. Right. And then what did the Giants say? This all she said, oh, maybe his elbow will be healthier this year. Okay. We all knew that that was the case the whole time and that he wasn't happy and he denied it. So I think he does care about the public perception of it and he's not going to want the Heat. Remember Saquon was a guy who didn't really want that heat either, and he showed up for the start of training camp. I think Dexter Lawrence is in that group. He cares what that perception is about him.
Don Hahn
All right, so in closing, if it actually could benefit them cap wise to get something done with Lawrence, what do you think is their biggest concern on the Giants end for doing that?
Jordan Raanan
I just think that they thought, hey, he's making $20 million this year. He's coming off what I think we all could say is a down season, that that's still a lot of money for a player of his ilk. But clearly he wants more and more security because the reality is he has $0 guaranteed. So guaranteeing him money, I think, is going to be the key here, and that's going to be the thing that gets Dexter Lawrence happy and that, because I don't know if there's a real pivot for the Giants otherwise, I mean, you'll be going into the season with some serious question marks on that defensive line around. Like you said before, a lot of other question marks. If they do decide to go the route of honoring his request.
Don Hahn
Jordan's always a pleasure, man. Keep us updated. He looked good today, too.
Peter Rosenberg
Doesn't he always?
Don Hahn
He's good at what he does. Handsome guy. Shame.
Peter Rosenberg
Shame. What?
Don Hahn
That's a shame that God wasn't as generous with everybody.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, yeah. We can't all be Jordan. Jordan, runner.
Don Hahn
I would say one third of this show suffers from anti Jordan. I'm anti Jordan. I was gonna say.
Peter Rosenberg
At least. I was gonna say maybe two thirds.
Don Hahn
Well, no offense, Peter, but there's no world in which I can include Alan in this conversation.
Peter Rosenberg
I know. Two thirds would be me and you.
Don Hahn
Yeah, that's. That's. And I. And I was being generous. Just saying one third.
Peter Rosenberg
I thought so. That's why I came and fixed it.
Don Hahn
My little gift to you.
Peter Rosenberg
Thank you.
Don Hahn
Thank you. But, you know, we'll get into everything that's going on today. But there's also, you know, there's a. There's a college basketball championship up for grabs tonight. Michigan. And UConn. And UConn. How do they do it, man? How did they continue to do it? They're going to play for another national championship tonight, but something even bigger is going on, Peter.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, you're talking about drop madness.
Don Hahn
That's right.
Peter Rosenberg
It's happening, folks.
Don Hahn
Oh, it's happening in a different way as well.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, yeah, you know, Anthony heard the complaints. We were not thrilled with the voter turnout on Twitter, and we heard from A lot of people saying, well guess what? I hate Twitter. I don't use Twitter so I want to vote elsewhere. So for our big final we have decided to switch things up. Now first of all, you're wondering who is playing in the final. Well, of course it's 25amonth.
Don Hahn
Don Ana Rosenberg with you until 7
Alan Hahn
in your ears
Peter Rosenberg
up against.
Don Hahn
This is college football.
Alan Hahn
Wow.
Don Hahn
Excuse me. This is college football. ESPN Radio.
Chris Carlin
Oh my God.
Peter Rosenberg
That is your final matchup. Just as good as it gets. Don versus Carlin Dhre on espn, on Twitter. We're going to get it up there on the Instagram, on our Instagram page.
Don Hahn
How about that?
Peter Rosenberg
And we'll also be on YouTube so you'll be able to vote everywhere. No excuses to vote in our Drop Madness final.
Don Hahn
Now what's interesting about this, I don't think myself or Carlin are particularly proud of our moments that became drops. But we're all about winning. We want to win at the end of the day. So I'm able to advocate until 6:30 for my drop to win. We should try to get Chris Carlin on to advocate for his drop. Although what else can you say? I mean this is, it's almost like he doesn't have anybody to run against. I mean this should be a runaway for him. But if Carlin, he's been very aggressive, Peter trying to get people to vote for him. So maybe between now and 6:30 we can get Chris Carlin on to, you know what?
Peter Rosenberg
Especially, especially if we end up at a close. If this thing is close down the stretch, I would love to hear from Chris, you know, weigh in.
Don Hahn
I just love that he's into it. So that should be a lot of fun. We'll hear from him on that. So vote. You've got other options besides just X. So hopefully this will get a ton of people. Is it going to be me? Is it going to be Carlin? The championship will be awarded by the time we get to 630 because we're out of Dodge because the Knicks have a huge game against the Hawks. We got to talk about the Islanders make a move firing Patrick Wa with four games left. I'll tell you why. It was probably the right thing to do. And then Allen and Peter will have their say on this as well. Juan Soto on the IL. The Mets have moved their night games to 4 o' clock games on Tuesday and Wednesday and Dexter Lawrence wants out. It's all there on the table. 1-800-919-3776 Don Ana Rosenberg. Just getting started on Monday on ESPN New York.

You're sitting at a red light or stuck in traffic and your phone lights up. Maybe it's a text, a video call, or a new post or a quick notification you think you can check in a second. It feels harmless. But the truth is, once your eyes leave the road, you're not really driving anymore. And traffic doesn't pause just because you do. That split second of distraction can throw off everything. Your reaction time, your awareness, your ability to avoid someone else's mistake. You could damage your car, injure yourself, or hurt someone you care about. Or you could get pulled over for a reminder that your phone isn't worth the risk. So before you start driving, make it easy on yourself. Put your phone on silent. Toss it in the glove box, Set it to do not disturb. Put the phone away or pay. Paid for by NHTSA Rich Eisen here.

Game Time is brought to you by Tullimore New Irish Whiskey Be going to city. Give it to it give up because when it's game time it's. I like that. It's totally time. Knicks visit the Hawks coverage immediately following us on 880 at 6:30. And we also have the National Championship game tonight which will be on CBS. UConn taking on Michigan Tullamore Dew, the original triple distilled, triple blended and triple cast mature and Irish whiskey. Be sure to grab a Tullamore Dew or try the Tullimore Dew honey during today's action enjoying Tullamore Dew responsibly. When did they start playing NBA games during the National Championship game? Didn't the NBA always lay out.
Alan Hahn
It's a great question. I'm wondering the same thing. I don't. I don't know. Honestly, it's not something that I ever thought about. But you're right to have. I mean there's even like tonight's Knicks game. That's a peacock game. The NBC's putting that on. I know it's big, but still for them it's big. But they're taking it and putting that on a national platform. Morning show asked the same question this morning. 2011, 2012. It started then. That's what they say. They looked it up. That's what the Google machine says. And I trust RJ and Ray with my life. It's just Become something that it's like, oh, you know, whatever competition.
Don Hahn
That was the first time since 2004, by the way. And that was due to the delay in the season for 2011.
Alan Hahn
That year was the shortened season. Right. Because of the lockout.
TurboTax Announcer
Yeah.
Don Hahn
See, it's a big night for basketball. Not that this isn't a big Nick Hoff game.
Chris Carlin
We got five.
Alan Hahn
I think it's only five games right. Tonight. It's not a big but.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, I mean, yeah, I asked the
Don Hahn
question, I got the answer. And it's been a dozen years. I just remember it always being. The NBA would lay out on that Monday to allow the national championship game to get its flowers. And we'll get into that. Jay Billis is going to join us coming up at 4 o' clock to talk about that game, which is not as big here in New York as the Knicks, because the Knicks are going to need this. They want to try to stay out of the four. In a possible meeting with the Hawks in the first round, which I think would be, not that they couldn't win, but that would be a disaster. Like for all the work you've done and what this season was supposed to be, that that's going to be your first round matchup. The Rafters team that I think they would beat easily, a Sixer team, I think they'd be able to handle. But the Hawks, I mean, thanks for playing, but they would deserve it because then it would drop the four, but you know what I mean. So there's not many games left. So they've got to be able to take care of business tonight. We see if they will. It's been so long, right. It's been five straight losses against teams above.500.
Alan Hahn
They've only played five teams in the last.
Don Hahn
Well, think about this, Alan. Right?
Alan Hahn
Yeah.
Don Hahn
It's one month anniversary of the win over Denver.
Alan Hahn
Right.
Don Hahn
That's literally one month. That was March 6th.
Peter Rosenberg
Right.
Don Hahn
Is April 6th.
Alan Hahn
And in one month.
Don Hahn
So think about that. In one month, they've only played five teams above.500.
Alan Hahn
That's it. And, and they've played. I think it's. Was it eight? They've played eight bad teams and they, they've beaten all of them. They were, they went eight or nine. I can't remember if it's eight or nine. But it's, it's, it's a, it's a. The league is a joke. Friday night was a joke. Like what they're doing with these games and these teams. And it just so happens like a lot like Atlanta Atlanta's won 18 to 20. The majority of the 18 wins are against those same bad teams that aren't trying to win since the all, since, since the All Star break. You teams that just pulled the plug and it's, it's, it's so bad for the sport.
Don Hahn
But you brought it up during the meeting and I'm glad you brought it up now on the air. It's one thing to tank and do whatever you want. Nobody's paying attention to these teams anyway, right? Who cares? The reason you should care is they're playing teams that are trying to position themselves for the playoffs. So you're a affecting the upper seeds. You're affecting teams their ability to get into the playoffs or maybe their ability to be able to get home court advantage. Because listen, everybody plays, especially if you're playing in your own, you know, your own division. Like the Knicks and the Celtics have the same schedule, essentially outside of the whole cup where the Knicks had to play the spurs one more time, but essentially the same schedule. But you know, maybe you took on a tanking team early enough of the season where they weren't tanking, where now we get to March and April and they are tanking. It's not all the games are equal.
Alan Hahn
Chicago's a great example. Chicago started the season 6 and 1 and Knicks saw them early in the season. It was a, you know, now, now it's like they can't even win. No, I know 6 and 1 sounds like a big deal, 82 game schedule, but early on they felt like they were off to a good start.
Don Hahn
Oh my. Six and one drop.
Alan Hahn
Oh, that's right, six and one. Yeah. So that's been the problem right now, but. Which is you don't know what's real and what's not real because of how some of these matchups have gone. But the beauty of tonight is it is potential. But the probability right now is the Knicks finishing third. That's the higher probability. The Cavs play tonight. They play, oh, by the way, a team that's not trying to win in Memphis. So the, so there's a lot of pressure on the Knicks at least short term to get this win because you don't want the Cavs to be, you know, sneaking up and taking that third seed. Atlanta's really playing for fifth at this point. It would take a collapse by them to not finish fifth. They could drop the sixth. So one way or another this could be a first round matchup. And it has historically favored the Knicks lately. But again, since they got rid of Trae Young, they're a much different looking team. They played different and you know, the Knicks only saw him, I think, one time since then and it was, it was, it was a Hawks win. No, actually, no, they didn't. They haven't seen him since January 2nd. So I'm wrong. They haven't seen him since the Trae Young trade and everything changed. So this will be an interesting matchup on many levels. And do the Knicks want to lock in and kind of get themselves up to that higher gear they need to get to this game. Then Thursday, Friday, Thursday's Boston, Friday's the Raptors, and then Sunday might mean something. It might mean nothing. So we don't know what that game's going to be. That game could be sit, sit all your guys and play your G leaguers if the game doesn't mean anything in the standings. So really this is, this could be one of the last important games of the year, all depending on what happens in the standings. Boston's kind of locked into second. So what do they, what do they really want on Thursday other than Jayson Tatum's first game back at the Garden? Well, that's not nothing since the injury, right?
Don Hahn
For sure. So that's a big game. UConn Michigan's a big game, but it's bigger than the championship for Drop Madness. And Chris Carlin wants to advocate for really a drop that I think he does.
Peter Rosenberg
He needs clear cut favorite, but he doesn't need to.
Don Hahn
He's never won Drop Madness before. So have at
TurboTax Announcer
Chris.
Chris Carlin
I, I wouldn't say I need to advocate. I really just stopped by to pretty much claim my crown now because this
Don Hahn
has been,
Chris Carlin
I have run through you.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, no, it's, it's. And not only that, Chris, the thing that makes it, I think sort of sad is you've now destroyed the whole Agreca family. What do you think about it? Well, all you need is a Nancy and Jay Lynn drop, you know, and you will have beat everybody.
Chris Carlin
Well, we'll see you next year. I mean, that's how good this. If I'm, if I'm going to nearly die on the air, the very least I can wipe out a family in the process. And Richard, why, speaking of which, I,
Don Hahn
I didn't like the disrespect. My 8 year old son, I hope one day, you know what, I hope one day he grows up and takes a job away from you.
Alan Hahn
Oh, my God.
Chris Carlin
Oh, I already assume that he's, I already assume that he's getting the job to be the Next Voice of the Devils. And why not? He could do middays tomorrow.
Peter Rosenberg
He could already do midday.
Don Hahn
I want him to take Rutgers football from you.
Chris Carlin
Oh, wow.
Don Hahn
Oh.
Chris Carlin
Take every single job I've ever had.
Don Hahn
Exactly.
Chris Carlin
I think that's fair and it's understandable. It was the way that I treated him. It was not. I wouldn't call it disrespectful. I would call it, you know, unfortunate, but necessary.
Don Hahn
Yeah. Collateral damage.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, in a lesson he was trying to teach a. Listen, you don't want to, you know, he doesn't want to hold back. He wanted Marco to learn a lesson. Sometimes you're going to win and sometimes you're going to get up against, you know, an immovable force. And that's what this drop has been.
Don Hahn
Yeah, it really.
Peter Rosenberg
Irresistible force and immovable object. You get the idea, Chris.
Chris Carlin
I'm both. I'm both physically and with this drop. Metaphorically as well.
Peter Rosenberg
Now, do you still laugh when you hear the drop or does it pain you?
Chris Carlin
No, there's a little PTSD to it. There's. Because I don't know that we've ever discussed this, but as this was happening, I looked at my color analyst and I looked at our. Our producer and I looked at both of them and they just looked at me like, what's happening? Are you dying? Because we still have a quarter and a half ago.
Alan Hahn
It doesn't sound like Carl. It doesn't sound like any concern was had other than the fact that it's like, get the music. Just get the music. We got to get to the music. Like the fact that he just cues up the music over you almost dying, it actually adds to the entertainment value.
Chris Carlin
It is fantastic. I mean, I can't deny that. And the fact that it was that you played me off as if I went too long with an Oscar speech.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, yeah.
Chris Carlin
It was so good. And that was the work of Renee Canales, Alan Hoff from ESPN Radio.
Alan Hahn
Lacto. Yes.
Jordan Raanan
Yes.
Chris Carlin
And it was just. It was really. What we have to blame for all of this was what I would call a preemptive pepcid that I took. Assuming at some point. Yes. Assuming at some point that day I was going to have some heartburn, which was a safe assumption. But it was a chewable pepcid, a little piece of which just came back probably 20 minutes later out of nowhere. Nowhere. And nearly knocked out 315 pounds of fury.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, listen, the proof is in the pudding, and we know you love pudding. The.
Jordan Raanan
Wow.
Peter Rosenberg
The Carlin choking drop is up everywhere in the Almost equally everywhere. Like 70 to 30. I mean, that's just. You know, there are people out there who really thought that Don's interrupting commercials was an all time Mount Rushmore level drop. And it's just being absolutely manhandled by your near death on the air. So we thank you, Chris.
Chris Carlin
Well, I. And I appreciate it. I was truly only worried about. You got the job yet? Yeah, somebody else took that out. I really haven't been concerned at all.
Don Hahn
No offense. You're genuinely concerned for your health. I was just a moron at the thought. The most generic commercial hip hop song was actually a hip hop song that Jacob would play bumping into a segment.
Peter Rosenberg
Right.
Don Hahn
It was sad. So yeah. You had pepcid. I had stupidity. 25amonth. Donna Rosenberg with you until 7. There was an incident earlier.
Chris Carlin
Here's what's great about it though. Just quickly. Here's what's great about it is I could absolutely. That could have been any one of us. It's not you. It's not stupidity. That one could have been any one of us. Can hear.
Don Hahn
Not me. Got too much respect for the genre.
Peter Rosenberg
That's true. I have too much respect for the craft.
Don Hahn
I had mentioned something on the air earlier last month that got Peter upset that I disrespected hip hop.
Peter Rosenberg
I think Chris probably heard about this.
Don Hahn
Drop disrespects hip hop way more.
Peter Rosenberg
It shows a real lack of appreciation. Not until he says. Not until it says get optimum prime at 20. That was the only way Don knew that it was not a song. So, Chris, congratulations on this, really. I mean, it's not over.
Alan Hahn
You still have a great run though.
Peter Rosenberg
Nearly three hours left of voting, but you're cruising and so enjoy the day. Man.
Chris Carlin
Has this been as dominant a run as UNLV and 91. Like, who else would you ever put this up against?
Peter Rosenberg
Let me think now. Here's the. That is a great question.
Chris Carlin
209-19-3776 Fire away.
Peter Rosenberg
Now, Don, would Carlin's choking have stood a chance against, for example, we know that's. That's tough. You know that level. Also here's what I think about. For a dream matchup. Carlin's choking against this former Raven. Replied the current Raven. Oh, like the game doesn't need him.
Don Hahn
Sorry. He's a charger now.
Peter Rosenberg
He's a charger.
Don Hahn
Oh no, he's a ram. That's. That.
Peter Rosenberg
That would have been really. That's Duke UNLV right there.
Don Hahn
When you're in the presence of greatness, you have to acknowledge it.
Peter Rosenberg
Right.
Don Hahn
This is going to go down as the greatest strawberry.
Chris Carlin
Wow.
Don Hahn
But you still haven't won yet. But if you do and at the rate that you've got the lead right now, I'm willing to say the, the LT gibberish that we know. The Matt Forte, Ed Crane pool. All the things that get screamed out of the rock. No Michael K. As I'm sitting there doing the game, people will just Ed Crane pool. This will go down as the greatest moment.
Jordan Raanan
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
That's something to be proud of. It's.
Chris Carlin
I, I just, I, I can't even fathom that I'm in this category. Now that you've played all those. It's never going to.
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
God bless.
Chris Carlin
Even with. Oh, my God. What a special day.
Don Hahn
I love you, Chris.
Peter Rosenberg
We all love you.
Chris Carlin
Love you so love you very much.
Don Hahn
That is a great Chris Carlin. Keep voting. We have until the end of ENN today. Truly will be crowned a champion. But they talked about the Golden State Warriors a couple of years ago. Right. And what happened?
Peter Rosenberg
So never know.
Don Hahn
Things can change.
Peter Rosenberg
Never know.
Don Hahn

Hey, so you guys know I've been telling you about a project we're going to do at the house. We're getting a beautiful picture window put in in our bedroom to overlook the yard. Which because our bedroom, it's, it's, it's too dark. And this time of year with the sun, this morning was a gorgeous morning and it's like we need more light in here so we need to do that. But we also want to replace some windows. And there's only one place I want to go to do all that stuff and that's Rings End. So why Ring's End? You're saying to me, I haven't heard of them. What are they about? Well, they work with pro contractors. That's what they're about. And pro contractors build and remodel for a living. Right. So if the pros trust them, I trust them. You can too. They work with only premium brands in windows like we're going to do here. They also do doors, decking, paint, lumber, kitchens. All the things if you want to update or upgrade your house, they have it built to last. High end product lines that contractors rely on. They do it right, they don't do it over. So they're not a national chain, in case you're wondering. They have regional expertise. They have eight full service lumber yards in Connecticut and also in Westchester County. They also have 12 freestanding paint centers as well. Rings and his family owned and operated since 1902. They have deep northeast roots. They know your house, they know the area. They know what you need. I've been dealing with my guy, Andrew. He's been awesome. He's come out to the house a couple of times. Last time he came out was measurements. That was the exciting part because now it's getting real. They're gonna come and get the work done, and it's gonna be amazing. I cannot wait for it. If you're interested in this, you have work to do and you want to know more about Rings End, you can either visit one of their local area stores and lumberyards, or if you can't make it to a store, just shop online@ringsend.com. that's ringsend.com, boys, Abe Ellis is going
Don Hahn
to join us coming up at 4 o'. Clock. I just don't. I don't know how we do this. Like, UConn is in a championship game again.
Alan Hahn
Again.
Don Hahn
And I keep thinking about the games against St. John's and St. John's handled them a couple of times.
Alan Hahn
Well, the Big east championship game.
Don Hahn
Yeah. Now, game. Those were de facto home games because the game was at the Garden and all that. I understand. But that just. Something flips on with UConn once we get to the tournament where they just know how to win these big games.
Alan Hahn
And that again, the epic win over Duke, the comeback, the, you know, the. I don't want to say miracle shot. It was the whole play itself. The steal, the three, Like. Like that. They feel like a team of destiny in that. In that realm. This. Look, UConn is a brand, and we know they're there. This is, what, third in the last four years that they're in the championship game or trying to win a third title. They never lose when they get to the championship game in their history. So this is another thing. There's a lot of destiny about this team, but they're going up against, like, Danny. Danny Hurley called them the Monstars. That's what Michigan is. They've got a huge front line. They're just. They're a nasty team, and they're trying to do what the Fab Five couldn't do, finish the job. So that's like, there's a lot in this game that is going to be exciting. Can UConn battle with this team that, like, Michigan was the best team in basketball all year. They were the best team in college basketball. Can they take them toe to toe? Can they go toe to toe with them like they had with Duke. Like they even handled St. John's in the same way. Some of these tough teams. Can UConn stay with them to the end and then have that experience of in clutch time. We can get it done. We know we can. We've done it. And they have a coach that certainly has been there and done that as well. It's a really compelling game tonight. Epic.
Don Hahn
No, it is, because you've got the team that was good all year, the team that all of a sudden is on this miracle run. It should be a pretty incredible game tonight. 850 is the tip. So you can consume a real good portion of the Knicks Hawks before on
Peter Rosenberg
the start if that's what floats your boat.
Alan Hahn
Almost all of it, actually.
Don Hahn
Yeah, right.
Alan Hahn
Seven o' clock game. Seven o' clock in Atlanta.
Don Hahn
We might want to talk to that guy about basketball. But you can watch the entire Nick game and the post and still flip on with plenty of time to be able to absorb what's happening.
Alan Hahn
When do you think actual tip off is? It says 850. Are you buying 850 as the actual tip off?
Peter Rosenberg
Well, if they listed it scheduled to tip off, then it's probably got to be close to 850. Although I thought they always used to run just after nine.
Don Hahn
Yeah, that's interesting.
Alan Hahn
It's pretty late, you know.
Peter Rosenberg
And is there anything weirder, more off putting than the national championship games when the. When it's one of the raised courts with the benches below. Always.
Alan Hahn
That's always in these big stuff in the. The big football stage.
Peter Rosenberg
But now it always reminds me of the Kevin Ware injury.
Don Hahn
Oh, you're right.
Peter Rosenberg
It always does now.
Don Hahn
But it just. It is weird. So one thing, the venue change like that, right? You're used to playing in an arena and then you get to the Final Four, you're playing two games at a football stadium.
Peter Rosenberg
It is strange.
Alan Hahn
I used to wonder this too. And shooting. Like, are the shooting percentages different? Is the shooting worse because you go from arenas and into a big. These cavernous football stadiums and because of depth perception, there's just a different look to it. Is the shooting worse? And historically it is not. No, believe it or not, it's amazing to think that too because you would think it would totally mess you up, but I guess they get enough practice in and get enough shots up that it ends up not being an issue.
Don Hahn
I guess you get used to it, but just great. And I got brought up last week that just 30 years ago they were playing this game at the Meadowlands.
Alan Hahn
Yeah.
Don Hahn
And now it's, you know, Lucas Oil Stadium, you know, in front of 80,000 people. Pretty cool.
