Oh, let's do it, baby. It is Don Hahn and Rosenberg, except no Don, Han or Rosenberg. It's Ty Butler filling in for the guys. And we start an hour earlier. So from 2 to 6:30, you hear your boy Ty Butler going, hit me up, Ty Dbutler. We are streaming live on YouTube on the ESPN New York YouTube channel. And of course, give us a call at 800-919-37766. A lot to do today, my man. John Jastremski, my colleague at SNY, he's gonna join us at 4 o'. Clock. Claire De Lune covers the NBA for the Guardian. 5 o', clock, she pulls up and Anthony Pusick, another Anthony Pusick LED ENN vehicle. So I'm excited about that four and a half hours of you and me. So let's get to it. Listen, I checked my weather app just now and I kid you not, it says it's a hundred degrees outside. And so with all due respect to Pu Sick and my boy jp, who I'd love nothing more than to hang out with for the next four and a half hours on a Friday. Listen, traveling the musty streets of New York City with this type of traffic because everyone's being rerouted due to the Taylor and Travis wedding. And 100 degrees. Not exactly how I want to kick off America 250. But listen, y', all, we are together in spirit. 800-919-3776. Let's have a good time today. We do have to get to a beach bash recap because unfortunately I was not able to be in attendance. I hear Anthony did. He got himself a tan. And so we might call ourselves the first all black show. In ESPN New York history might do that, but we'll get to the beach bash later on today. Listen, I'm a little saddened. There is a cloud of depression hanging over me because I was, let's call it, the mayor of LeBron to the Knicks. It made a lot of sense to me. People got so mad. It's funny as I am boarding my flight to Jamaica last, what was it, Friday? I did not anticipate this tweet to be a grenade where you just send something out, you hop off the app, and then you let it cut, come back to a bunch of mentions. I Simply said, hey, LeBron to the. To the Knicks. Makes a lot of sense. Sent that thing out. About four and a half hours later, I land, get some signal Nick fans coming after me, but it's officially dead. Rich Paul did say on his podcast with Max Kellerman that had the Knicks not won the title this year, LeBron was going there. And look, I don't know if that is him overselling it. Like, LeBron had the power to just make this decision unilaterally, but it felt like based on how his agent was talking it, there was a realistic scenario that, you know, LeBron ends up a Nick if the Knicks don't win a championship. And that, to me, would have just been a perfect ending to a legendary career. And again, I. I first brought this up the moment Sean sent the tweet out that Bron was not going back to the Lakers. And I said three best landing spots were Denver and San Antonio, along with the New York Knicks. Now, I think if he goes to Denver or San Antonio, those teams win the championship this year. Philadelphia. Very interesting now that they got Jaylen Brown. But let's get to the other team I mentioned, and that's the Knicks. And the amount of folks in my mentions telling me they didn't want him because, A, he had his chance to come here in 2010 and didn't do it, which to me makes no sense. Like, you're holding this grudge from 16 years ago. Or B, it was. And this one, to me is really funny. Nah, man, he doesn't fit with this group. And so let's go through those two things real quick so teams don't repeat anymore in the NBA. And so while I do understand that conventional wisdom of, hey, we were good enough to win it last year, let's just run it back. Ask the Bucks, the Warriors, the Thunder, and the Celtics how that ended up working out. The run it back philosophy, it's hard to repeat. And what we've seen consistently from the defending champions is. It typically is. And I'm not wishing this on the Knicks. Obviously, it typically comes in the form of a significant injury that impedes your ability to repeat. But being the best team in the league through grueling seasons and four playoff rounds and consecutive years, that has become far more difficult than ever before, even in an era of load management. And so if I offer you the best free agent available who also happens to be the greatest player of all time, your response can't be, no, thanks, because he was mean to me a decade and a half ago. I take that as I take that to be someone who is unserious. And I say that with all due respect. But then we get to the second part of it, which is what I mentioned. He doesn't fit with this group. Can't have LeBron on this team. He doesn't fit. Yo, I've watched LeBron for 23 years, do nothing but make all of his teammates better. Somehow he was able to fit with Wade and Bosch and Ray Allen and Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving, Anthony Davis, Dwight Howard, Luca, Austin, Reeves. I was able to watch him for 23 years fit with all of those guys, but now he won't be able to fit with Brunson, OG and Kat. The hell are y' all talking about? And this is where I get so, so frustrated. The logic doesn't even come close to making sense. And so I said, hey, let Mitchell Robinson walk, bring in Braun, and have Josh Hart come off the bench. And the amount of fervor in my mentions saying, you're nuts, you don't know ball. Nah, LeBron has to be the one coming off the bench. And I found that to be so funny because I would imagine these were the same people who, after game one of the Eastern Conference Finals, when Josh Hart couldn't hit a three to save his life, wanted him benched the rest of that series, and then had their trepidations about his fit in the finals going up against San Antonio. So those same folks all of a sudden have decided, you know, it would be a flagrant sign of disrespect to have Josh Hart coming off the bench with LeBron as the starter. That was crazy. And then I'm listening to my guy, Jake Asmon this morning. Great show. Phenomenal job filling in for the fellas. And he said, one of the reasons this team resonated, and I actually agree with this, this team resonated so much with the base was because of the. The team aspect and how it felt like, you know, the warriors back in 2015 had this, like, mantra of strength in numbers, and that really was what the Knicks were this year. Every given night, someone else could beat you. And we saw it in the Finals where all of a sudden Jose Alvarados got eight points in the fourth quarter. He's hitting timely shots, Jordan Clarkson, big buckets. It really was a strength in numbers. And that resonated with his fan base. It wasn't just about one guy, as much as we glorify Jalen Brunson, and I've called him since winning the championship, the greatest Knick in franchise history. He had a lot of help. Cat came up. Huge Cat through the first two games against San Antonio, we thought, hey, might be the Finals mvp. OG Anunoby, prior to the Finals, had a legitimate case as to, you know, him being the best player on this team. And then Bridges stepped up. So there really was this whole team aspect to it. But I was thinking to myself, when Jake said that this morning as a reason as to why you wouldn't want Bron. Let's just say instead of signing Brunson, they had traded for Donovan Mitchell and he averaged 4:40 in the playoffs and they won the championship. Would you have enjoyed that title any less? Of course not. Sure. It makes it feel different and in many ways, I guess, more special because you were so used to being spurned by the top dogs, Katie and Kyrie, LeBron and Bosh and Wade like that. That had just become a part of the fabric of being a Knick fan, getting your hopes set high for the next big time free agent, only for him to bolt elsewhere. So winning it this way made it feel more special. And now you had a guy in Brunson who embraced the challenge, and we saw the progression of this group year after year after year. But, man, any way you were blessed with the championship, you would have taken it. You would have absolutely taken it and enjoyed every single second of it. But on the Braun thing, it does sound like it's no longer a possibility. Yesterday, my friend Jake Fisher of Bleacher Report had said that the Knicks did express interest in LeBron. But Rich Paul said the Knicks called, and then Ian Begley last night I saw, said it was highly unlikely that this was going to happen. And so that fantasy of mine, even not as a Knick fan, but as a pure basketball fan, someone who roots for LeBron, wanted to see his career have, like, the perfect ending. And I guess even saying that isn't really perfect, because his critics would then say well, well, you join a team that already won a championship, so it doesn't count. They already impugned the legitimacy of the bubble championship, and so maybe it doesn't end up happening anyway. But for all that to say the fantasy is dead on Mitchell Robinson, because that did happen a couple of days ago and it got swallowed up by the Jaylen Brown news, which we will get to throughout the show. I said this at the time, first of all, with respect to the owner, he's allowed to do whatever he wants to do. I did not think it was the best idea to, after the team won a championship, like literally right after they won a championship, to convey the message of we're not going into the second apron. I thought that the better way to operate would be allow this thing to marinate, allow the fans to be happy, and then your front office, when the time is had and needed to do so, we'll figure it out. But he comes out and he says, they're not going into the second apron. It's a death sentence, essentially. I never thought that, speaking of death sentence, losing Mitchell Robinson would be that for the Knicks. And I got crushed on social media for saying that. And my thought process was, is it a significant loss? Sure. We understand the value he provides, the legitimate asset he is coming off the bench. But I thought the reaction to losing Mitch, or before he goes to Boston, prepping for losing Mitch, we was more about the sentiment than it was about the actual player. The sentiment being longest tenured, finally got his chance to win a championship. He did so, and he grabs what was either the first or second biggest offensive round offensive rebound in the history of the franchise. OG's Tippin is probably number one, but Mitch had that big offensive rebound in game five. And so there's a lot of emotional attachment to watching him flourish. Coming up from being a second round pick and then having that moment. I understand that. But with all that said, he's not irreplaceable. I don't go into next season now thinking the Knicks are drawing dead because they lost Mitchell Robinson. The respect that I have for Leon Rose, being able to replace him, you might not get a guy who has, who is as good at that role as Mitchell Robinson is, but the collective effort of whoever is his replacement and the roster just being loaded, as we saw during the playoff run, when they go, it goes 16, three. I think they'll be fine going forward. Will you miss him? Absolutely. But it's not a death sentence. Is it crushing to watch him go to Boston? Sure. But I'VE been warning y' all for weeks that what you typically see in the NBA is once a player wins the championship, that's the box that he that checks, you know, en route to him leaving to go chase the bag. Now, I've done what I've come to do and I, I, I. Obviously he would have preferred to stay here if the Knicks could afford him, but you typically see guys take less before the championship, post championship, they go get the bat and I don't begrudge him for that. And I am going to be very curious to see if we do end up getting Knicks Celtics opening night what the reaction for Mitchell Robinson is. I'm still curious about how he broke his damn hand before the Finals, but he fulfilled his role, helped him win a championship. I don't think it's that crazy of a loss to where it's like, man, I had the Knicks repeating. But they lost Mitchell Robinson because let's be honest, as much as you love him, he comes with a bevy of flaws. There were times where he was just unplayable in the Finals because he couldn't hit a free throw. So while you at times are intoxicated by the offensive rebounding, the defense, the block shots, the screen setting and all of that, all of that is rendered useless if he's stuck to the bench because teams are going to hack a Mitch. And now it's funny, Knick fans, and you could tell on social media during these games, hated the hack a Mitch strategy. Now all of a sudden they're going to be imploring Mike Brown to use it because it's a, it's an advantage. And I'm not trying to pile on the guy because again, I want to make it clear his what he provided for this team was significant. But he did underwhelm in the Finals. If we're being honest, the way we talked about him going into that playoff series, about how big of a X factor he was going to be. He made three plays the entirety of the series. Two of them were in game two when he stopped Wemby on, on. I don't know if it was bad. I don't remember if it was back to back possessions, but Wemby had multiple opportunities to score with under a minute left and Mitchell Robinson guarded him outstandingly and forced him to miss shots. And then the offensive rebound we talked about in game five, outside of that, while huge, did not live up to the expectations that we had for him going into the series where we discussed him as this huge X factor where folks Were holding their breath with every Ian Begley, Sean Sharania tweet. Regarding the status of Mitch going into the finals, I actually think they still win the championship. If he had been ruled out. If Shams goes on ESPN before Game 1 of the Finals and tells us Mitchell Robinson has been ruled out for the entirety of this series, I still think the Knicks win the championship. Not to discredit him, not to downplay his role, but they were that good in that series where I don't even think that they needed him to win it. Maybe it goes longer than five games, maybe we see a Game 6 back at the Garden. But they proved to be. And this was, I guess, much to my dismay because I picked the spurs to win in seven games. They proved to be too much for San Antonio. And then late in those games, they overwhelmed the Spurs. It does suck watching him go to Boston, I will say that. And now he's rolling with the ops. But look, good for him, man, congratulations. You proved to be someone who was able to stand the test of time. And the way the Knicks managed his minutes this year, not playing him in back to backs, I thought was super smart and it helped win them a championship. 800-919-3776 okay, so we've got some Yankees injury news.

Just.
Aaron Boone
Just get ready, Ty. I just want you to be ready, okay? Just be ready.
Ty Butler
Oh, man. All right, so here's the problem. So Anthony sends me the tweet with the Yankees announcing the roster moves. And I was going to start off by saying all of this. We predicted no Ryan McMahon reinstated. Good for him from the 10 day injured.
Aaron Boone
Why is it, by the way, Ty, that when a Yankee gets a throat infection or viral infection, they have to go on the IL because they're literally not allowed to move for three days. Everybody else takes a Z pack and they're good to go. Ryan McMahon needs to be put into a box and you can't move. It'll be harmful to you to move your body anyway.
Ty Butler
You have to be fair because the Yankees in the past, we have criticized their injury management where, like, things are not taken as seriously as we expect them or need them to be. And then it shows up again. And so he had to be bagged for 10 days. So I was starting off by saying, hey, much to be expected. I heard Kate talking about this on his show yesterday. Ryan McMahon coming back today. All right, check Mark. Trent Grisham, who was actually starting to get hot, get it going before he got hurt. He is returning from his rehab assignment reinstated from the 10 day injured list dealing with that hamstring injury, it's like, all right, here we go. Reinforcements on the way. Trent Gresham. Who would have thought a couple months ago he would be a pivotal part of a Yankee offense that just can't score runs anymore? So I was like, all right, there we go. And then my eyes wandered to the bottom of the tweet where I then saw Carlos Rodan is now being placed on the 15 day injured list retroactive to June 30th with left elbow inflammation. To which I say, Anthony, what is our favorite line?
Aaron Boone
How's that elbow doing?
Ty Butler
That elbow injury we talked about?
Aaron Boone
That ever go away? Elbow inflammation usually just disappears, right?
Ty Butler
Whatever happened to that left elbow we were concerned about? And so we're done now on the 15 day injured list, left elbow inflammation. Aaron Bruins gonna talk before tonight's game against Twins. We'll see what he has to say. But man, oh man. And it's funny because, you know, in preparing for what I had to say about the Yankees, I was simply gonna point out, look, you've got Cole and Radon going this weekend against a team that you historically dominate. So there is like literally zero excuse for losing this series. You go out there and lose to the Twins, who stink when you've got Cole. And I know Cole's been struggling and Radon going tomorrow. Now we have some concerns. Turns out the concern arrived before the end of the weekend because now Radon is back on the il. Man, oh, man, oh man.

You know what I'm not excited about? Another Yankee injury. So Max Freed, he's dealing with the left elbow, though he though he did face live hitters the other day, so we'll see what you know what his timeline looks like. Radon's got a left elbow injury. Here's the funny thing that's actually not so funny. We spent so much time in previewing this season talking about this vaunted starting rotation that might be the best in baseball, and rightfully so. It was loaded. And I guess the biggest question, which feels silly now, was could Cam Schlitler duplicate what he did last year because it was, you know, a shortened sample size, wasn't a whole year, but he had the tools and we had seen it pay dividends. His last I I'll call it start in a half notwithstanding, he was cruising along in that Red Sox game, got obliterated in fifth in the fifth inning where his defense let him down and then was objectively bad in that game against the Tigers. But now with Cole, who I'm still not concerned about, but he obviously hasn't looked great in his last four starts, you've got Freed, who even when he comes back, I'm still going to be holding my breath like it's a left elbow injury that doesn't just vanish, doesn't just disappear. And so we're all going to be collectively holding our breaths, right? And then Radon, who's hurt again and he's got a history of being hurt. So I don't feel great about this. What it here's what's interesting though. Now all of a sudden, all of a sudden we can get back to the Tara Scuba conversations because so many people, and I'm so excited to talk to JJ coming up at 4:00 because he was one of those guys, said, ah, when I make a list of Yankee needs, starting pitching is not one of them. Thus trading for Scuba unnecessary. I said, wait a minute, I get it on the surface what the rotation looks like when healthy. Problem is the entire rotation hasn't been healthy this year. And so if you can make that a weapon, if you can make it a cheat code, then you go for it. You still need a right handed hitter catcher. You still need some bullpen pieces. I understand that. But if Scuba was available at a price that Brian Cashman feels, you know is suitable, you make that deal 10 times out of 10. And now the folks who were against it, I'm sure will be singing a different tune today now that we learned Carlos Rodan, he's got left elbow inflammation. More on that, I'm sure. We'll come later. The Yankees play at 7, so I assume Boone is going to meet with the media around 4 or 5 o'. Clock.
Aaron Boone
It's so funny you say that, Ty.
Ty Butler
Okay.
Aaron Boone
Jacob asked me because we've done this. We do that. We did boonies a lot back in the day and Girardi too. So I, I think I figured out what, what Boone's gonna say. Let me, let me know if you think I'm close.
Ty Butler
Okay. So do you want. Should I want to be.
Aaron Boone
You want to be mayor? Do you want to be Meredith?
Ty Butler
Yes.
Aaron Boone
Okay.
Ty Butler
Does she call him Aaron or she. Does she.
Aaron Boone
Aaron?
Caller Moose
Boonie.
Ty Butler
Aaron. Aaron. All right.
Aaron Boone
She's a professional.
Ty Butler
She doesn't use Boony well. So. Well, sometimes, like when I'm in and out, we'll get to that in a moment. But you know, when I'm in locker rooms at times or like scrums, I'll say, coach. Is that weird?
Aaron Boone
I don't think that's weird.
Ty Butler
I was raised the right way.
Aaron Boone
That's what I did when I was in scrums.
Ty Butler
I say coach. All right, Aaron, so we learned today that Carlos Rodin is headed to the 15 day il with left elbow inflammation. Can you tell us more about this injury?
Aaron Boone
Yeah. So with los. Didn't love how he was recovering after his last start. Just not getting to where he usually is at this point. Took him to go see Chris, did some imaging, found some swelling in the elbow, and we're going to shut him down.
Ty Butler
So when you say shut him down, how long is he being shut down for?
Aaron Boone
Look, we just got the imaging done. I think we got to let the swelling get down first, see what we've got there, and we'll be able to give you a better picture once we get that.
Ty Butler
All right, Aaron, as we get back to the talk show, Anthony Yankee fan. I don't feel great about this.
Aaron Boone
I don't feel great about it.
Ryan Reynolds
No.
Ty Butler
Well, because the elephant in the room is what's going on with Judge, your
Aaron Boone
guess is as good as mine and his too. Apparently. He said, I don't know, just wait to see what the doctors tell.
Ty Butler
Doesn't know what's going on. And the reports are that he is still weeks away from being re examined. Now, I guess the optimism lies in the fact that he's no longer feeling, or I shouldn't say no longer feeling pain. The pain, the pain has come down. Whether it's no longer. He's not feeling as much pain, but the best player on the team, we just have no idea what his timeline is. You're losing yet another pitcher.
Aaron Boone
They can't hit, they can't field. Everybody's out of. Not everybody's out of position, but basically the entire infield is out of position in one way or another. And the outfield has been an interesting thing to navigate if you want to
Ty Butler
keep Cody Bellinger and left guys are playing out of position.
Aaron Boone
Caballeros playing the outfield because Volpe has to play short, has to. Even though remember that, Remember when Caballero didn't want to go on the aisle with that? What was it? Did he have the finger injury or he got hit by the pitching. He's I'm good, I'm good. I don't want to lose my job. Don't worry, you're not going to lose your. Well, he lost his job to Anthony Volpe, who's not hitting
Caller Moose
man
Ty Butler
all of a sudden. Like think things felt great, like two
Aaron Boone
weeks ago it was, wasn't it beautiful?
Ty Butler
It just felt great. And now the sky is falling. So let's just talk about this series for a moment and more on callous radon once we get the information from Aaron Boone when the media talks to him. So there's no such thing as a must win series in July. That would be ridiculous. Must win in July of a 162 game baseball season. That would be ridiculous. But if such a thing did exist, this would be one of them because similar to in basketball, you know how you'll sometimes hear the color analyst when a scorer is struggling, he's like 1 for 12 from the field. You hear the analyst say, you know, going to the free throw line, watching the ball just go in the net can unlock him. That's what the Twins are for. The Yankees, they're the ultimate unlocker. This is the get right series for them. And if they somehow come up empty this weekend, you are allowed to be in full blown panic mode come Monday, which is something I had been hesitant to endorse because all year long I've operated with this mindset. The Yankees have had tough stretches. They're not some dominant team. They're 10 games above.500, so they're not blowing guys away. But I've encouraged fans to, you know, fret not because the American League is such a disaster that they will be the de facto best team. But when your worst stretch of the year coincides with the Rays, who are now ahead of you with their best, and then on top of that, you haven't just been losing to bad teams, you've been getting bludgeon. And then add to it all of the injury concerns at some point that that panic meter is going to start to hit. And when I listened to Judge yesterday question the team's urgency, like the captain of the team who doesn't really say much, who's not calling people out when he questions their urgency, like that type of thing resonates, you just wonder how deep the issues are. And now we've got a rotation that at the start of the year we thought would be the best in baseball is hemorrhaging right now because guys are just dropping like flies. I was not concerned about Garrett Cole. My thoughts on Garrett Cole were simple. Because of how excellent he was to start or just his season. He obviously came in later. I thought it kind of like warped people into believing this is just how it's supposed to look. For a 35 year old missing an entire season, it's like no, man, he's going to have up ups and downs. He missed a whole year of pitching. He's turning 36 in September. It's not supposed to look as easy as it did when he first came back. And so I was reluctant to panic about what we saw from Garrett Cole. Now obviously, if that continues, you start to wonder, hey, man, have we the best days of Cole are those in the rearview mirror? I still think he can be a really good pitcher. Come late August, early September, we will see really good Garrett Cole, which by the way, might not be peak Garrett Cole because of his age, because of the injury, but really good Garrett Cole. Before the Radon injury news, I thought was going to be good enough for the Yankees to get through the American League. And once you're in the World Series, like you can win the World Series. But now this becomes a big start for him. Tonight against the Twins, he struggles again. That losing streak reaches eight. You're soaking in the Radon news. You're hoping and praying Free can hurry up and come back. It's going to start to feel a bit Different Cam Schlitler, another guy I'm not really worried about. I felt like it was an overreaction for some folks to pretend he was some scrub because of a start and a half. He was really good through the first four and a half against Boston. Things fell apart in that fifth inning and then he was awful in that start against the Tigers. But here's the thing. He should be allowed to have back to back suspect starts. My man's got an ERA a hair over two five minutes ago we were talking about him being a Cy Young Award winner starting in the All Star Game and after a bad start and a half, we're pulling the plug on him completely. Nah, man, that would be a flagrant sign of disrespect because all he's done since he's put a Yankee uniform is be tremendous. So I think he deserves a longer rope. I think he deserves that much. But obviously with all the injuries, one of your best pitchers is hurt, your best player is hurt. It is going to take a toll on you and it could explain one of the reasons why the Yankees have looked this bad. Now the problem for Boone is while injuries can serve as a bit of an explanation, it's like my medicine. Your team has looked like this the past three Julys. So what's going on? What's wrong with this operation? Three straight years. Y' all struggled in July. So it has, there has to be some merit to it. And I was listening to K yesterday and he said something I disagreed with. He was pushing back on the notion of this being a June swoon because like the Yankees finished a month 12 and 14, but it's really the seven straight losses that has made it look as bad as it is. So that would mean prior to that they were 12 and 7. And my response is simply regardless of how you, you arrive at being two games under.500 for a month, you still did that. It still happened. Whether you're 12, no. And you lost 14 straight or you're seven and five and you go five and nine. It still happened in June. And for some reason the Yankees always seem to struggle at this point. For at least the last three, four years that's been the case. And in this case, yeah, the swoon might have been a bit of a late arrival, but they've lost seven straight games and 11 of 14. So by definition it is still a June soon. 800-919-3776 let's go to Moose in Jamaica. Bats lead off on the show today. What's up Moose?
Caller Moose
How Are you happy? Fourth. Everybody enjoy safely. Please do it safely. A lot of, A lot of cops out here making good money. A lot of cops out here making good money. So please have fun, but be safe.

Well, not just that, man. That shouldn't be the, the motivation. The motivation should be, hey man, don't put yourself in a dangerous situation and endanger other folks while you outside ripping around driving. So yeah, I get where you're going,
Caller Moose
but it's not even that. It's. It's also the fireworks. People can lose wounds out here, bro.
Ty Butler
Oh, yeah, as we've seen here in New York.
Caller Moose
Yeah. Yes. Jason Pierre Paul, at least he won the super bowl in the process. But to talk Yankees, like, listen, this is out of the box thinking this is more geared to the postseason because I hear your concern that you outlined so eloquently and stuff with the pitching and the injuries. But my concern is every October the inability to drive in runs, have clutch hits, whether they be homers or whatever. So considering Grisham's one year deal and Jazz probably not coming back for whatever reason, I'm not talking antics, I'm just talking financials, dollars and cents. The money he's going to garner with his talent, his track record and the position flexibility of our current infield and what may come up through the minors. I would say that trading for Mike Trout, even though he signed through 2030, and also we have Stan occupying the DH with, with rice also playing that stuff like. But just because you have to go all in before the bargaining agreement may affect the way contracts and salaries and overall budgets are concerned, you might have to go after Mike Trout to go over the top in October. It's yes, we need Dylan Digner, Dingler or Ryan Jeffers or Hunter Goodman. But that's also like, there's a lot of moves, there's a lot of patch ups and, and band aids that need to be put on this team before October. I'm not concerned about the regular season. Like everybody knows we are the most talented team in the AL because it's so trash. But to push us over the top whether Stanton comes back for October or not, maybe have Trout play center when it's a lefty or just not play Grisham at all in October because he didn't do well last October. But I think Mike Trout might be. I don't know what it would take. It would take a lot, but I don't think that much because he's aging and has a long term. I caused. Yeah, that's what I think could push us over the top.
Ty Butler
But I think Moose and I appreciate it. Like there, there are so many things. Like if I presented that plan to Brian Cashman, there are so many things wrong with it. Number one is the contract. He's got four years left, 37 million a year. While you're still dealing with, with Stanton, you've got massive contracts to call and judge, of course. So, so that's, that's, that's one part of it. It also feels like we have this Mike Trout conversation every single year. The injuries may be a thing of the past because he's played 74 games this year, 130 last year. So that might be a thing of the past, but I think that option becomes eliminated. As crazy as this sounds, once you extend the qualifying offer to Grisham, he's your everyday center fielder and when Stanton comes back, he's your dh. So why would the Yankees, as great as Mike Trout is, he is a future hall of Famer, one of the best baseball players I've ever watched. Why would they put themselves into that situation financially? Would it help the team significantly on offense? Absolutely. But there are other factors that have to be accounted for. It's not a free agent and he's on your books until 2031. He's 34 years old, turn 35 next month. So I just don't see that as a legitimate option. The Brian Cashman way is he is going to add a Ryan McMahon type of player at the deadline to help improve this offense. But you're right man. The Every year that seems to be the story. The Yankees can't hit in the playoffs now. Last year their rotation failed them but every year they come up short offensively and that's why they go home early.

Ty Butler. We go to 6:30 today. 809-19-3776 now. Pic. You are the only one among us who attended yesterday's beach bash.
Aaron Boone
That's right.
Ty Butler
So I do have. I. I got to get a recap. How was it? How were the vibes?
Aaron Boone
Listen, it was no secret. We all told everybody it was going to be hot. And it was. So shout out to everybody, all of our devoted fans who sat out there at bar a last yesterday with us. It was hot. We had a lot of fun. Boost Mobile Fanatics Fest, New Jersey Lottery, Spike Dade. They were all. They were all fantastic, really awesome partners week. We had the. The Spain Austria game going on on the side. Family Feud was fun. Ty.
Ty Butler
Oh, I did. I did catch that.
Aaron Boone
That was fun.
Ty Butler
Some questionable answers.
Aaron Boone
Well, listen, that we gotta. It could be the heat, but we gotta blame the polled audience because we
Ty Butler
actually went into the audience and polled people.
Aaron Boone
John Winthrop had a pen and paper and he was writing down all the answers.
Ty Butler
Yeah, that, that was. It was a fun game. And Carlin was tremendous.
Aaron Boone
Yes, he's a fantastic host.
Ty Butler
Phenomenal. Gonna give Steve Harvey a run for his money. But some of the answers were just very disappointing. So, Jacob, that type of weather is not made for people like you and I. No, no, I think we made the right decision.
Aaron Boone
I couldn't even, by the way, Miller Lite. I have to shout out too because they were the smartest people there. Along with Boost Mobile. They had cooling towels. Boost Mobile had towels. They were dunking and ice and giving to people. And Boost Mobile had popsicles. So they, they were prepared for this weather. They were right.
Ty Butler
So, so K's doing the. The game of like who's gonna be the first person to pass out, which I enjoyed.
Aaron Boone
It could have been him.
Ty Butler
And if. If Jacob and I are part of the equation, I guarantee I would pass out. We might have to be top of the list. Not because we're out of shape, but because look at our skin color, bro. We're gonna be burn me. And that's the part I thought he missed with Bart. Like, Bart's obviously in tip top shape, but dark, dark as hell standing out there. It was a great time.
Aaron Boone
It was a good time. It really was. Everybody there was awesome. All the people at bar were awesome. And our. And our Fans, I got. They. They stuck it out, man. Even after Don saying, we had a nice crowd there up until the end, until 7 o'. Clock. And I was in. I got in my car, it said 97 degrees. I drove home. It still said 104. So I don't know. That usually isn't how it works. And it got hotter. It felt like. Yet today, walking to the train felt hotter than actually being a bar A for seven hours, which I didn't think was possible.
Ty Butler
And you guys, the host, were under 10.
Aaron Boone
Yes.
Ty Butler
So they weren't getting the, you know, full scope of it.
Aaron Boone
Well, Rick was. Don, kick on Rick.
Ty Butler
Oh, how did that go?
Aaron Boone
That was a Warriors effort by Rick. Look, he let in nine.
Ty Butler
He.
Aaron Boone
But he. No, sorry, sorry, sorry. He saved nine of 30 shots. Now, look, it's soccer. It was not a regulation net. It was not the same distance you would get for a penalty shot. And Rick was.
Sponsor/Ad Voice
Was.
Aaron Boone
Was on the il. Essentially, he had a bad back.
Ty Butler
So he. So. So 21 of 30 went in.
Don Hahn
Yes.
Ty Butler
So they hit him at about. Let me do some math. What is that, about seven out of 10? Yeah, 10 out of 30. 30. They hit about a 67% clip.
Aaron Boone
I think it's about 70. No, because 21, 30, you get seven to 10. Seven out of 10.
Ty Butler
Seven out of every 10. Are you calling that a good performance just because you're being a good co worker?
Aaron Boone
I saw the. I saw the conditions.
Ty Butler
It was.
Aaron Boone
The sand was unbelievable.
Ty Butler
Athlete.
Aaron Boone
But he was hurt. If Rick was diving. If we had Rick diving for soccer balls, he would definitely have made a couple more. But I'm not gonna fault Rick for his performance. And listen, anybody.
Sponsor/Ad Voice
Who.
Ty Butler
Anybody. Boone. Hey, Boone. Boone, you in there?
Sponsor/Ad Voice
They get that.
Aaron Boone
They get. They get. They get a nice scar from us from ESPN New York.
Ty Butler
Did Rick put his best foot forward?
Aaron Boone
I. I think he put the only foot he had, which is the ones that were moving. He was walking around in a lot of pain. He really was.
Ty Butler
I don't want to hear about a bad back when that man, every single day ends his show by saying, what? No excuses. Play like a champion.
Aaron Boone
Oh, he did it, though. He did it. I'm giving him. He wouldn't give that excuse. I'm giving the excuse. He's. He would tell you that he could be better.
Ty Butler
So he texted me. He gave up 9 of 30. Not that he allowed 21 of 30.
Sponsor/Ad Voice
He.
Ty Butler
He gave up 9.
Aaron Boone
All right, so there you go.
Ty Butler
So he did better than what you just.
Aaron Boone
I said it right the first time. I had it right the first time, and I. And I confused. Sorry.
Ty Butler
He's. He's listening to defend himself. I got you.
Aaron Boone
I love that Rick is listening for us.
Ty Butler
Okay, so now this makes it like Jordan flu game where 70%.
Aaron Boone
70% say percentage with a bad back. I'll. I think. I don't know. Rick will say. He wouldn't take that. He'd say he could stop them all. I think you could take that.
Ty Butler
This is Isaiah Thomas. Thomas in the finals against the Lakers. I get it.
Aaron Boone
He had some nice celebrations on some of them too. Some choice words, I was told were said after some saves.
Ty Butler
Let's. Let's hear the choice of words.
Aaron Boone
I wasn't there. I had to go back and fix Michael's computer. Then I came back, and when I came back, they said, it's over. I'm like, we mean it's over. We're done. Yeah, we're done.
Ty Butler
How's the body look? His body still looks great.
Aaron Boone
Oh, well, listen, I think. I think that for that alone, the price of admission was worth it for some people.
Ty Butler
I love it. So I'm actually doing a show with Rick in a couple weeks here.
Aaron Boone
Oh, that'll be a fun show.
Ty Butler
It's been a couple years. I'm nervous about the dump button because you know, what happens with Rick and I, you know, just. This will happen with you, Jacob. I'm sure. Like, you'll sometimes, like, forget you're on the radio. You just feel like you talking to one of the fellas and something might slip out. And so I'm concerned about that. When Rick and I get together, it's like you just don't remember. We're broadcasting to the masses. So I'm nervous about that. Rick can take me in places where he. It's like he's only safe in these waters. My job could be on a lot. He's Rick dph. It's not gonna happen to him. Me, I've gotta. You know, I've got to be careful.
Sponsor/Ad Voice
Yeah.
Ty Butler
Rick and Bart is safe.
Aaron Boone
Remember that.
Sponsor/Ad Voice
Don't.
Ty Butler
Don't cross that line. We need you on these airwaves. Yeah, man.
Aaron Boone
RJ and Ray will keep you straight. I'm not worried. Yeah, I'm looking for.
Ty Butler
But they might be on vacation.
Aaron Boone
Well, then. Then you. Then. Then you might have Rock.
Ty Butler
Then we might have Julian, who doesn't like to talk, or Joe Leo Jolio likes to talk.
Aaron Boone
No, no, no. I'm not worried about the talking. I'm worried about the dumping. I'm worried about. I'm worried about? Will Rick be able to control himself? That's what I'm worried about.

Host: Ty Butler (filling in for Don, Hahn, and Rosenberg)
Notable Guests/Segments: Anthony Pusick, Caller Moose, Beach Bash recap
Ty Butler takes over the hour in place of Don, Hahn, and Rosenberg, delivering a high-energy and passionate exploration of key New York sports stories. The major topics are the end of the LeBron-to-the-Knicks fantasy, fallout from Mitchell Robinson's move to Boston, and a deep dive into the New York Yankees’ mounting injury woes—especially Carlos Rodón’s latest setback. The episode is infused with humor, honest frustration, and authentic New York sports banter.
“If I offer you the best free agent available who also happens to be the greatest player of all time, your response can't be, ‘no thanks, because he was mean to me a decade and a half ago.’”
— Ty Butler (09:00)
“For some reason the Yankees always seem to struggle at this point. For at least the last three, four years that’s been the case. And in this case, yeah, the swoon might have been a bit of a late arrival, but they've lost seven straight games and 11 of 14. So by definition it is still a June soon.”
— Ty Butler (37:20)
“If Jacob and I are part of the equation, I guarantee I would pass out...not because we’re out of shape, but because look at our skin color, bro.”
— Ty Butler (45:30)
The episode maintains Ty’s signature blend of sharp analysis, comedic banter, and palpable frustration with fan irrationality (especially Knicks and Yankees fans). The humor is self-deprecating and occasionally irreverent, with candid admissions, listener back-and-forth, and on-air production debates that keep the mood light even in the face of sobering sports news.
Ty Butler leads a solo hour, filling the shoes of Don, Hahn, and Rosenberg, diving headfirst into the dead dream of LeBron James ever donning Knicks blue and orange. He dissects the logic (or lack thereof) behind fans rejecting basketball's GOAT, contextualizes the emotional departure of beloved Knick Mitchell Robinson, and turns his critical eye to the Yankees’ unraveling pitching rotation after the latest Carlos Rodón injury. Packed with quotable lines, fan debates, and wry observations about New York sports and personalities, it’s an hour rich in news, analysis, and entertainment for anyone who cares about the Knicks, Yankees, and life as a New York sports diehard.
