Finding coverage that best fits your needs. Like a good neighbor. State Farm is there.
Peter Rosenberg
Don, there's no tush push if you're not pushing the tush.
Alan Hahn
Han, I want you protecting my blind side and Rosenberg.
Peter Rosenberg
When I was seven, I was riding shotgun and smoking cigarettes. This isn't North Dakota, this is New York.
Alan Hahn
This is Don Hahn and Rosenberg. The best threesome I've ever heard on 880 ESPN and the ESPN New York app.
Peter Rosenberg
It's Cap. I gotta be honest, as Alan Hahn would say, that is officially Cap. I did not smoke heaters as a seven year old.
Alan Hahn
All right, it was eight. You were eight. All right, let's be honest.
Peter Rosenberg
Whatever I said, there were no heaters.
Alan Hahn
No, you weren't seven, but you were eight.
Peter Rosenberg
No, I was eight. Now I will tell you this. My mom at that time was smoking.
Alan Hahn
Heaters though, at 7 or when you were 7?
Peter Rosenberg
I was 7. And my mom is such a sellout. She told me back then she was like, you know, one day when I'm old, I'm going to smoke cigarettes again. And then she got old and sold out. I wanted to see it, but.
Alan Hahn
You mean it. So. So never followed through.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, she's not following through. She's apparently decided to be healthy and not pick up the cigarette habit. Alan, how are you today?
Alan Hahn
You know, I mean, can anybody pitch?
Peter Rosenberg
Can local, not locally, but sure.
Alan Hahn
Anybody pitch around here? That, that's, that's kind of, that's where I am. And, and boy, did the Giants, like, like, what do we say about Jackson Darden? What do we need to see? And all that stuff. And he, he just. Boy, does he tease.
Peter Rosenberg
You want. You want to.
Alan Hahn
You know what he did? He went up on the stage last night, swung on the pole a little bit, smiled, whoa, took it all off and he left Giants fans like, you need a cigarette. They needed a fan themselves after that. You could just feel it. It is there is now full on. Just. I don't even know how to describe.
Peter Rosenberg
Are you saying full, Richard? Take it off. Take it all off. That was the feeling you had, not me personally.
Alan Hahn
You gotta feel like though, from a Giant. Like Giants fans are looking at this like, oh, yeah, I want more of this more, please. They wanted an encore.
Peter Rosenberg
You know what it sounded like?
Alan Hahn
What it sound like?
Peter Rosenberg
Here's the sound. Here's the sound. The feeling that many Giants fans had last night when they saw the man play. I'm seeing if we have the sound.
Alan Hahn
Dead silence, huh?
Peter Rosenberg
I'll do it myself instead. It's the Lion King. It's your baby quarterback being held in the air for all to see. I mean, John Winthrop, our pinhead pd. This guy is.
Alan Hahn
Oh, that's the group chat last night. Oh my, yes. He's.
Peter Rosenberg
He is crowning this the greatest well remember season we've ever seen.
Alan Hahn
You got on him for using spectacular in yesterday. Sensational meeting. Oh, I'm sorry. Since I knew it was an S. Sensational was. Was what you heard him say.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Alan Hahn
And you called him out for it.
Peter Rosenberg
I said, it's a bit much.
Alan Hahn
And he says a bit much. And then last night he said, dart is sensational. Cruz's preseason officially in the rear view. And your response? Oh, God. Now why would you say oh, God? Do you feel like it's still too soon? Because I'll tell you what, there was one thing that I saw a couple but one thing I saw last night after hearing Herm Edwards yesterday, we played it on the show and he gave that Josh Allen comp and we were all like, whoa, whoa, hold your horses. Then you saw something. He steps through traffic. He gets rid of the ball quick. He's got a quick like Rogers esque flick of the wrist to get rid of the ball. And then came the moment where you said, oh yeah, there's Josh Allen. And it's when he went for what, 20, rushed for. He ran for 23 yards, got tackled from behind and rather than slide, he tries to get like another couple of yards and he gets taken down and fumbles. Now the flag took the fumble off, away off the play. But still him not sliding and trying just get an extra two yards and then having to go into the concussion protocol tent. That's very early, early career Josh Allen esque. And that's the part that you just want to make sure he learns to like. Less is more sometimes when you're running with the football. But there's a lot there to like a lot. The temptation to throw him out there in week one is growing and more and more people are really starting to buy in on it. But I'm telling you, that is not the Giants plan. They are not going to do this. But this is going exactly the the way they could only hope it would, which is he showed you enough to get you salivating. And then they say not yet, not yet. That last item of cloth that, that last little scarf is staying on the skin, not showing you everything yet.
Peter Rosenberg
I'll just. Here's why. You should be totally excited about it. He showed you plenty, plenty to be in a good mood about. And then here's also the reason why you can calm down. Because as amazing as it was, the preseason is the preseason. And while I understand Dart was in against the starters, we're jumping up and down over dart. Six for 12, 81 yards and a touchdown.
Alan Hahn
Let me remind you, six for 12 with what? Three. I mean just terrible drops.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh yeah, the drops didn't even have to happen.
Alan Hahn
So the 6 for 12 unfair because.
Peter Rosenberg
Sure, sure, those drops, you know what Alan Call it 9 to 12, add another 50 yards. All right, whatever you want. My point is, you know, in the same game, Tommy DeVito was 17 to 20 for 198 yards and three and three tutties. All right, so it's all preseason, you know, and it's 42 points. You get, you get. They put up 42 points. When was the last time that happened? So it's definitely worth, you know, being in a good mood about and certainly having something to look forward to. Now you have the canty audio. I haven't heard it yet. Am I, is this is my guy out of his mind? How far has he gone?
Alan Hahn
Well, Jacob has it and Chris Canny on his unsportsman like show. He gave his reaction to what he saw from Jackson. I remember we talked to Chris, what two days ago and he, he wasn't yet ready to make this leap, if you remember. Right. He wasn't ready to make that full on. Yes, he's got to start right away but he did admit that he's showing you a lot. Chris now has completely crossed the threshold.
Peter Rosenberg
QB1, week one. I am on board with Mike Tannenbaum everything that he says. Jackson Dart is ready for prime time. Jackson Dart gives the Giants the best chance to win games. Jackson Dart gives Brian Daboll and Joe Shane the best chance to say they damn job. So Jackson Dart needs to be the quarterback moving forward and he's not afraid to make plays. Greg Daltis, that touchdown throw that he had, I mean he put it right on him. That was a rocket. He ripped it between several Patriots defenders. But then you've also seen him being able to ad lib. I mean the first explosive play of the night. This is a guy that steps up, steps out of the pocket and then finds Gunnar Olshensky and then you're talking about a 50 yard gain. Those are plays that I don't believe Russell Wilson or any other quarterback on the Giants roster can make. And so I think it's important when we're trying to frame this what Jackson Dart starting means for that offense that aside from Malik, Neighbors is devoid of true explosive playmakers. They don't have any game breakers on the offensive side of the ball except for number one. But if you have Jackson Dart in the lineup, then all of a sudden he ra floor for everybody on that offensive unit.
Alan Hahn
That feels like a lot to put on this kid, that doesn't it? And look, him and Neighbor, they could be special, but it feels like a lot to put on him in week one. I think we all can agree we should see him at some point this season. We should. I just don't know if right out of the gate you're throwing them to the wolves, especially with how tough the start of the season is. His head's going to be spinning, man.
Peter Rosenberg
But Alan on top of that, and I said this to you off the air and obviously Chris Canty has forgotten more about football than I'll ever know. But Chris, they went out and got a Hall of Famer. You can't. There's some. There is a certain level of being a top tier organization where you have to honor your signings. You went out and got a guy who, yes, we don't think he's a star anymore but is still capable, is a Super bowl champion. You can't bench Russell Wilson before playing a snap, Alan. You just can't do it. I don't think you can.
Alan Hahn
You brought him in for a reason. He's supposed to bridge a little bit. I mean, even you saw Jameis and Jameis like just has that magnetic personality and a very positive guy. And he might be like the perfect backup quarterback for a rookie quarterback. Right.
Peter Rosenberg
I really, I like that take.
Alan Hahn
You know what I mean? Because he's. You could tell he's not going to be somebody that is, you know, going to. But he's going to look out, he'll help. He knows what it's like. He was the number one pick. He knows this whole thing. And if he has to play or if he does play, you know, like, look, it's going to be feast or famine with him. It's just the way it is. But there's something about his personality that lights up everything that would be a great. Like you saw him with DeVito. Did you see the video of him and DeVito and, and, and. And dart, where he has dart eat the W, like eating W's, like he told me. And then he also was talking into the, into his phone or I get maybe the Giants social media gave him a phone and he's just talking about, you know, the young dogs and how they play. Like, he's just very optimistic, very upbeat. They had some. They had a lot of fun in that game, and you could see a future of that, which is probably why they're so dead set on keeping Dart. Russ feels more like the bridge. He's the vet. You can, you know, he's just reliable as far as you don't have to worry about it. And you hate to say it this way because it's going to sound really, like, crass if he gets hurt. So what. You know what I mean? Like, if in the first couple of weeks he's getting banged around or it's just not going well, it's okay. The Giants are not invested in Russell Wilson to be successful. If he is, great. If he's not, it's almost like, fine, we'll now move to this plan. And when I say plan, that might be the most impressive thing about the Giants right now based on compared to last year when they were a dumpster fire franchise, is they really do look like they have a plan for their. For this quarterback. They know exactly what they want to do with them, how they want to develop them. You give credit to Dable on all of this. He knows exactly what he wants to do, and he's been doing it. He's testing the kid regularly. He's putting him in situations where it's like, let's see what you're about. And they're learning a lot about him. And the more they learn about him, and I told you this, I know people over there, they absolutely love him. They were impressed with him and they feel like it's a matter of time. But to rush him doesn't make sense. But what you want is people clamoring for him. Peter, how great. Like, think about it. They're clamoring for him for all the right reasons. Not because you drafted him so high so you got to play him. It's not because you, you think that he can help you win. It's just there's something about him that every time he's been on the field in the preseason, he's shown you some sizzle, some flash, and it makes you feel like the future is right there. And so many fans always want the Future to be. Now, the Giants are being smart and they are slow playing this as they should because he'll be ready. And when he is, you know, that's when, of course, the lights are really the brightest. And we'll see how he responds. Remember Josh Allen's first season? He was not lights out. He was not who he is now. He actually had tons of turnovers and he got, he got hit a lot. Like, there was a lot of mistakes he made. He got hurt early. He wasn't perfect earlier to live through about two seasons or so of him having to learn on the job, that's not easy to watch. So that's coming too for this kid. But the excitement, man, you can't. Like you. That's. That's beautiful if you're the Giants compared to where they were last year.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, man, it's, it's. It's the difference between essentially having a season or not. And, you know, I said this yesterday and I hate to make the comparison because I don't want anyone, you know, any of our listeners to feel like this is their reality. But, you know, on the flip side of the coin, there is a world where if Justin Fields, after a month, you're like, oh, this, this guy is.
Alan Hahn
This isn't going anywhere.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, there's a reason Pittsburgh let him go with a winning record. This guy doesn't have it. Then basically, Allen, you don't have a season. It just ends up becoming like, we're here. It's another wasted, wasted year for Garrett Wilson. Wasted year for this defense. Let's see what we have next year.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, yeah, that's. I think there's a lot more pressure for Justin Fields to show you something. And that's why it's interesting that they're already telling you, don't expect an aerial attack. Don't expect this to be a big show. It's going to be dink and dunk, boring offensive football. But that's what we want. That they're almost telling you in advance, don't expect anything exciting. That's not what we're going to do here. And I think they have to do that. But you're like anybody that's expecting Fields to have a great season. Great in comparison is what, maybe low turnovers, but don't think he's going to be giving you 300 yard performances. Like, this is going to be a team that runs and a team that, you know, again, this little, like, you know, out routes and little passes like in the flat. Like, you're not going to get down the field big explosive plays when it comes to fields arm and so how do you rate that right like how do you like what you saw from Dart last night? I don't know if he does that against ones we'll find out but there's a couple of times like the pockets closing you just see him just slip forward like the feel that he has in the pocket which just wants something that Zach Wilson never had this kid's got it, you can see it so that makes it more exciting to watch versus what I think you're going to get out of fields which is a lot of just dump offs and runs and a lot of blocking and running and look it's still meat leak could lead to success and that's what you want but I don't think it's going to, it's. It's not going to inspire anyone.
Peter Rosenberg
We have a lot to talk about today.
Alan Hahn
Well I mean I can't believe we've waited this long to get into the Yankees and the Mets by the way they're not going to escape our wrath today the Mets and David Stearns needs to be, they need to be called out after yesterday. Yeah whole organization needs a complete they need to be dressed down the whole organization especially at the very top four a decision that now that I wondered like let's see how this works out this looks now like a disaster of a decision and there's only one way to fix it and they're lucky they have this option so the Mets and the Yankees what we saw last night.
Peter Rosenberg
I'm going to Friday of course coming.
Alan Hahn
Up at 4:30 Friday Donnie's going to join us too he's going to jump in off vacation because we needed the judge so he's coming in but can I before we get the call that 800-9193776, I, I want to make this statement about tonight's Yankees game Yankees Red Sox at the stadium gonna be a gorgeous night. The weather today is just delicious but this with Max Freed on the mound and I know this was something that on the former show on the Michael K show you were never allowed to say but I'm saying it must win.
Peter Rosenberg
Tonight.
Alan Hahn
Must win game.
Peter Rosenberg
You hear that?
Alan Hahn
Tell me I'm wrong. Give me a reason why I'm wrong that the attitude of the entire team and don't say well every game's a must win. Stop it. You know what I'm talking about must win game. Freed has not been great his last seven starts his ERA is almost seven. He has Struggled. They claim it's not the blister, the after effects of the blister. In fact, what worries me even more, Peter, is they think it could be related to fatigue because, you know, he's not used to pitching a high volume of innings. And now we're late in the season, and as you know, he's well over 100 innings now. The concern is, is that, is he starting to kind of wear down? Dude, it's August. If that's the case, what happens in October in high leverage situations. So I'd rather be told that that blister just. It never. He was never the same after the blister because at least I have an excuse to tell me that, you know, hey, he wasn't supposed to carry all these innings or whatever it is, or he's not used to carrying all these innings. That would really concern me even more if it's fatigue. But tonight, there's no excuses tonight.
Peter Rosenberg
I mean, here's. Listen, I don't want to be captain literal man. It's obviously not.
Alan Hahn
I know it's not literally because it's August, but you know what I mean. You heard Jeff Nelson. You heard Nelly last yesterday.
Peter Rosenberg
Here's why. Here's why I can't though 3 out of 4, but I won't even give you. I would say if they lose tonight, Saturday's must win. You can't say it's must win tonight.
Alan Hahn
Why not? You need three. You need. You cannot split this thing. It's got to be three. And last night was a winnable game, but it was. Bullpen was trash.
Peter Rosenberg
No one was particularly great yesterday. I mean, there are a bunch of issues with yesterday's game.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, but the pitching.
Peter Rosenberg
But the pitching was not it.
Alan Hahn
Biggest, most maddening thing about last night's game was no one could come in and pitch. No one. And that. Come on. Like, not one guy. Isn't this the amazing thing about baseball? Not one guy like you. You brought how many. How many came to the. Came into this game? 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Five pitchers came out of the bullpen. Five in the. Yes. In the last four innings, five pitchers and not one had anything going. What lighter? Was he clean? Got you two outs. But I mean, did anyone come in and just do something? Could anyone come in and just say, okay, this guy's rolling. Let's. Let's ride him? Weaver probably just exhausted because they used him. A ton of Tampa devolves kind of been eh. And De los Sanchos. Don't get me started. I don't know why everybody is in love with that guy. So you bring in four guys or five guys and you couldn't just find one that was going to be like he's on. And I think that's the most maddening thing.
Peter Rosenberg
Let's open up the phone line, see if the people agree with you. 1-800-919-3776. We'll talk Yankees. We will. We have a lot of phone calls here about the Giants situation as well. So we're going to talk Giants, Jets. It's all, it really is all there for you. Now listen, nothing going on is particularly great right now except interestingly enough, Jackson Dart, he has become sort of the feel good story of August in New York sports.
Alan Hahn
The love affair. Remember, remember the quote, full bloom love.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, sure I do.
Alan Hahn
David Gettleman talking about, I believe that the player he was talking about there was, wasn't it Daniel Jones?
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, that's right.
Alan Hahn
Right.
Peter Rosenberg
Daniel Jones was the full Giants fans.
Alan Hahn
Now understand full bloom love. It is right? It is there.
Peter Rosenberg
I am curious though, like from Giants fans, what level of excitement do you actually have? Like how much of this is a really fun thing for yo yos like us to talk about and how much if you' in the full staff, you're.
Alan Hahn
Saying full staff, how many?
Peter Rosenberg
I want to know how many fans are at full staff right now.
Alan Hahn
Not half math, not half mass. No flags waving fully up in the sky. All the way up.
Peter Rosenberg
All right. So we'll talk to you. 1-800-919-3776. As Alan mentioned, we will also have the great Donald Marco legreca joining us on the show. Thank you. Alan Hahn
This is not familiar to me. I mean, the sound is, but I. What are you. What are you doing? Help me out it's pump.
Peter Rosenberg
Pump from Snoop. From Doggy Style. It's late in the album.
Alan Hahn
Yeah. See, I must have this. This is why. I know I've heard it, but this is definitely not an album that I listen to a ton. Remember, this is a little bit later for me. I'm older than you.

You are? Yeah.

No. What year is this one? 93. 93. 94. Should have been there.

Like I said, it's late in the album.

Yeah. I think by then I just, it was, I'm just. Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
Maybe you were anti West Coast.
Alan Hahn
I was not anti West Coast. I was very much into Snoop, but it was. This is off Doggy Style.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, yeah. Oh, sure is.
Alan Hahn
Damn. Wait, I think I have it behind me. I gotta find.
Peter Rosenberg

See what I mean? This is, this is ABC's of me, baby.
Peter Rosenberg
So you want to talk to the people?
Alan Hahn
Let's do it.
Peter Rosenberg
All right. Let's. Let's jump right into it. Let's get things started here. Let's have Frank get us going in Newark. What's up, Frank?
Alan Hahn
Hey, guys.
Caller
Good afternoon. Happy Friday. One of the things I want to say is, you know, I'm not basing my. I'm not putting high hopes based on preseason success. However, there's one thing that I noted about all three quarterbacks in preseason that we haven't been able to do in almost four years, and that's show the potential to have an explosive offense, at least be able to air the ball down 40 to 50 yards down the field, and that's something that we. I hadn't seen from Daniel Jones at all. So am I a little excited? Yes. What? In today's NFL, you know, we like the, you know, we always respect the quiet demeanor, the strong, stoic type quarterbacks of, you Know, like Eli Manning, Peyton Manning, for a very humble. But at some point in today's NFL, what I notice is that a lot of these young quarterbacks are the key to get your team energized, and the team feeds off of that. And I think that's one of the things that was missing out of the Giants offense in the last couple of years. We didn't, we didn't just feel like we had that energy coming out of the quarterback.
Alan Hahn
That's fairly. No, no, you haven't.
Caller
True.
Alan Hahn
It's absolutely true. And that's the whole reason why I think there's a little extra excitement because this, this is something for the Giant. Like, think about it. The Giants have really never had that kind of high powered electric offense. It's always been about.
Caller
And if I could add on something else, I mean, right now, Jackson dart. I think as a quarterback is in the best situation as a rookie. You can learn from the success of Russell Wilson and winning, winning a Super bowl, being in the NFC Championship game. And you could also learn from a. And I don't like to criticize James Winston like that, but you could also learn from the electricity that Jameis Winston provides with the W's. And also you can learn from him and the mistakes he's done because even though he's a very energetic quarterback, he does, he does draw a lot of interceptions. So you have the best scenarios where to learn from, you know, what not.
Alan Hahn
To do all those things.
Caller
I mean, hey, but how about this.
Alan Hahn
Also, Frank, before we let you go, I'll ask you this. Do you. Are you at that point where you're like, we got to see this kid week when. We got to see this kid week when. Or are you of the belief that, no, let's not ruin them. Let's be patient. There'll be a time. But I don't want to rush this process. How do you feel about that?
Caller
I don't want to rush this process. There'll be a time for him to shine. Right now we got. We have Russell Wilson and I actually firmly believe that we can actually win a couple games with Russell Wilson. If anything, we shown the difference last year in a couple of ones, those one score losses was the inability of Daniel Jones being able to move us down the field and getting another sense winning.
Alan Hahn
Yeah.
Caller
So I think right there alone with the quarterback, the quarterback that Russell Wilson is, that's the difference between winning five games and winning, winning five more games. You know, I think that's what was lacking last year.
Alan Hahn
Yeah.
Caller
So I don't need to rush this to Bella, man. I, I like the fact that we're doing something like Kurt Warner and Eli a couple years ago.
Alan Hahn
There it is. Exactly. See? Perfect. Thank you, Frank. Peter, I'm telling you, if fans just understand that it's a very. It should be a very similar blueprint to what they've already seen 20 years ago. Just let it, Let it, let it happen. Let it organically happen. Don't force this guy into starting before he needs to. And needs to is the proper way to put it. That's why you have Russ. Like you said, it's why you brought him in. It's just let this happen organically because if you look at the schedule and the kind of reality of what it could look like and knowing that you know where Russ is at this point of his career, it could happen organically throughout the season and it will. So don't force it.
Peter Rosenberg
How annoying is it that when you, when you. This is not about Russ or any of the quarterbacks. How annoying is it in this era of sports that if you try to look up any tickets for the US Open. I just looked at the quarterfinals, you know. You know, I enjoy the US Open.
Alan Hahn
Wow, that was a hard right.
Peter Rosenberg
It was a hard right. But it's, it's happening in my life right now. Don't worry. I'm not, I'm not going to. I'm not going to take a sports.
Alan Hahn
Talk radio shows happening in your life right now.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, I don't get me wrong, we're going to go, right.
Alan Hahn
Are you shocked?
Peter Rosenberg
I'm going right back to tickets in.
Alan Hahn
The middle of a caller.
Peter Rosenberg
It's not in the middle of a caller. It's the middle of a life. I'm going to be right back to Jameis and Jackson, which, by the way, sounds like almost a sitcom. It's just so annoying that when you look for anything these days, if you try to remove the verified resale, there are no tickets. The only tickets that exist are verified resale the second you go. No. What about. Can I just get some Ticketmaster tickets? That's not a thing.
Alan Hahn
What if you did a show on the boardwalk?
Peter Rosenberg
Now you're talking. Now if Richard, if Richard has his brothers and we're out there on the boardwalk, then maybe they give us some tickets.
Alan Hahn
But I can get in there.
Peter Rosenberg
So many things wrong. Hey, do you think Jackson darts swag. Do you think it runs up near nozzle or you're just a fan?
Alan Hahn
No, not at all. I don't see it as Nazly I think he's. He's got like, chill, bro kind of like.
Peter Rosenberg
I mean, but his outfits are trying pretty hard with the fits. It's going hard.
Alan Hahn
I think it's a generation, man.
Peter Rosenberg
It does feel like it, though. How can we compare it to anything else?
Alan Hahn
Come on. Like that. Like, that's just what they do. That's like kids. These kids these days.
Peter Rosenberg
It is. It is true, though. Like, basically that is what everybody does now.
Alan Hahn
We're living in a different little extra, you know, it's fine. It's just. I don't promise.
Peter Rosenberg
Let's go to what John in Rochester wants to talk about the Giants quarterback situation or maybe verified resale tickets. Whatever you want. John. What's up?
Caller
Hey, what's going on? Peter was going on Hans. I wanted to make two points. First things first. I love you guys. Love the show.
Alan Hahn
Thank you.
Caller
Missing Don right now.
Alan Hahn
Me too.
Caller
And I just wanted to touch base on the Giants a little bit. In a statement you said about the Bills, it kind of all correlates Jackson dark needs to wait. New York radio, New York fan base, just New York in general always just puts too much pressure overhype the situation and makes things more than what it is. A couple years ago, when Brian Debault took over, the Giants had a season where they shouldn't even have made the playoffs. Ended up making it. Everybody was hyped. They messed up the next three years giving Daniel Jones a contract. They keep doing the same thing. And I just wanted to recap to the Bills. You had mentioned Josh Allen, his first year. It wasn't great, but you could see the signs of him being a great quarterback. He didn't even have a number three receiver, no question, let alone a number two.
Alan Hahn
That's why they went out and got. Well, they got him digs. They eventually had to get him digs because like, hey, Diggs. Yeah, Tay Dicks. Right. They needed to. They did need to get him a weapon. There's no question. But no, no, you saw it. There was no doubt. And Anthony can back me up on this. I was in on Josh Allen when he was at Wyoming. So like you saw already, there was something. Oh, God, I know Peter. He was watching. He was watching Wyoming. What were they in at that point? The Mac? No, they weren't in the Mac. Wherever they were, it was like the wack Mountain West Pack 76. Those games. He was watching them on ESPN3 at 10 o'.
Caller
Clock.
Alan Hahn
And I going, you got to see this Saturday night, it's like a rainy. You barely can see the game because it's got like, they have two cameras in this broadcast and I'm watching this and I'm watching Wyoming because that's. The jets were in on a quarterback and I was watching every one of them.
Caller
Right.
Alan Hahn
I loved Lamar. Like, again, we have the shows. I did the shows. I was telling everybody about Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen. I loved both of them. And it was one time my wife woke up and I'm watching this game and she just looks me. What are you watching? Like, it looked like a high school game. The broadcast was so poor, but, man, he. He jumped off the screen.
Caller
Last point I want to make to you guys. I really feel like Brian dibeau is a good coach and it's something you always do. Like us rewrite. If the Bills had the bowl instead of McDermott is their coach, they would have already won a Super bowl. They've had three different opportunities. We were. They were up with 13 seconds ago. We have a defensive coach that never makes a defensive stop. The best of Bills were ever was when the bowl was the offensive coordinator. He left it. He went to the Giant. I just think New York has a lot of pressure and they didn't have the perfect situation for him. And y' all guys are ready to get rid of him and he will do great somewhere else. If the Bills had the bowl instead of McDermott, they probably already have a Super bowl ring. And I would love to hear what you guys have to say about this. Enjoy the show.
Alan Hahn
That's. Thank you, John. That's a strong take by John. If they had. If they had fired McDermott and given Brian Dable the head coach job.
Caller
Table.
Peter Rosenberg
Like a table, right?
Alan Hahn
Not the bowl. He believes.
Peter Rosenberg
You can tell he's been struggling with it for a while.
Alan Hahn
He believes that the Bills would already have a Super Bowl. That's.
Peter Rosenberg
That's a take, by the way. I don't hate it, though. I do not think he's good.
Alan Hahn
So who is not good?
Peter Rosenberg
McDermott.
Alan Hahn
He has struggled at times.
Peter Rosenberg
I thought his moment. I thought his moment has come. Would have come more than. Than once, but I have a. I.
Alan Hahn
Mean, you don't hear enough out of Buffalo. I mean, there's, you know, there's this kind of one paper town. But you wonder like, is he on the hot seat? Like, when does McDermott.
Peter Rosenberg
He was. I thought he was a couple of years ago with. What was it, a 911 story or whatever.
Alan Hahn
The weird moment. That was weird. Yeah. That was.
Peter Rosenberg
It felt. It felt like there was a moment where he was on on the hot seat and then yeah, it kind of went away. And he, it's hard. He always gets them close but you.
Alan Hahn
Know, well, he's here and he knows exactly how to develop a quarterback. Clearly he's got a guy in Jackson Dart that he, you could tell he has taken to him and I heard this in the pre draft process, he really took to the kid and he liked him a lot and everything he's thrown at him from ota's minicamp, everything, he's always trying to throw him curve balls and apparently the kid is unflappable and also process is quick enough to be able to have some sort of an answer or response. So that's all the things you're looking for. He's just not getting rattled about anything. And that's why I think they looked and think, okay, because I've always said, we talked about this yesterday, remember I told you the, the. Would you rather have a 10 IQ and a, you know, a 5 athleticism or a, or a 10 athleticism? A 5 IQ, I think you can't coach up IQ. You can coach up athleticism.
Peter Rosenberg
You can't.
Alan Hahn
You know, when they say you, you can't teach that when it comes to athleticism, sometimes you don't need to, you know, like saying you can't teach seven feet. That was an old saying for basketball. Well, you can't teach seven feet. You're damn right you can't. Because if he sucks, he's useless, right? 7ft useless if he can't play. So I think in the quarterback position you'd rather have somebody that has the ability to process quickly and have an understanding the IQ of the sport. And the special ones have it. And I think they look at him and think he's got it. The feel in the pocket. Just watch his highlights in preseason. His feel. It's the ability.
Peter Rosenberg
It was, it was good.
Alan Hahn
It's.
Peter Rosenberg
I can't deny it.
Alan Hahn
And I got out. I got to get out of here. And it's not like he's coming out like Daniel Jones had speed, but Daniel Jones used to run for his life if there was pressure. And now I play dart doesn't do that.
Peter Rosenberg
I can't, I can't even push back here. Last night I was impressed. He, he darted his moment. He knows the moment well. He's very good. He does not take off early. He. It appears as if. And again, I'm no, I'm no quarterback whisperer. It appears as if he's going through his reads and when it starts to finally Cave in on him. He knows exactly when to slip out. Listen, there's something. There should be something there.
Alan Hahn
This is why you and I both could say we have a good eye for this, because both our franchises, we've seen bad football, bad quarterback play.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, I know all about it.
Alan Hahn
Like, we've seen the next hope and then watched. And we've all said, I don't think it's there. And you see the issues. And that's why, like, when you see it and it looks right, and the more I've watched this kid, the more that just looks right. You know, Sam, Even Sam, as much as I loved Sam Darnold, even Sam, there were times where you're like, it's just not. It's not clicking yet. And you were hoping it would click. The minute I saw Zach Wilson as a. Nope. Like, I knew right away. Like, no, no, no, it's not there. Like, he can throw. He's got, like, an arm on him, but he's tiny. And you could just see that he panics. And that panic is in his game, and it's hard to get that out of the game. You know, even Geno, early on, Geno, with Geno Smith, you saw, like, he physically looked the part and he had a good arm. And there were moments where you saw, like, good throws and good plays, but there was enough evidence of, like, that is still. But that he's got to clean that up. Like, that's. He doesn't quite have it. That look of confusion at times. Dart doesn't ever seem to look confused more than. He just understands why that didn't work. Does that make sense?
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, like.
Alan Hahn
Well, even when it doesn't work, the look in his eye doesn't look like somebody like, what the hell was that? It was more of, like, yeah, okay. Yep. Know what that was. And that, to me, is everything. The understanding of why it didn't work. There's a value to that.
Peter Rosenberg
I got to tell you, I'm a little jealous of the. The late night watching Josh Allen playing college, that he is the kind of dude I would have.
Alan Hahn
Look, I went to.
Peter Rosenberg
He's the kind of guy, though, that I would want to watch playing college. There was something about the kind of player.
Alan Hahn
There was something about him. Like, I was watching all of them. I was. I mean, Josh Rosen. I was watching all of them that year. I was obsessed. And every night I'd come on and I think, Anthony didn't I do on a Friday or something like that. We had a segment where we went around. I forgot what we called it. But then I gave you like, or maybe it was even Monday of what we saw from these quarterbacks that, you know, were the going to be the quarterback class of the coming year. And I would tell you what I saw from each one of them. So I was obsessed, completely obsessed. And that was the one though, like when you're watching because you know, look, when you're watching usc, you're getting, you know, high definition big time. You know, abc. When you're watching Wyoming, it's ESPN the Ocho. You know, it might be in standard definition. In fact, I think a couple of games were in black and white.
Peter Rosenberg
Really on the Ocho. They went full black and white. Never seen that. All right, two cameras. It was great.
Alan Hahn
You had the full field camera and then you had like one, I don't know if it's a handheld or just one that was more of like a close up cam after a play was over. It was crazy.

Catch the show on demand whenever you want. Just subscribe to us wherever you get your podcasts. So, Jacob, did you happen to do any research on that Snoop Dogg song to see if it was in fact on that album that Peter said? Well, I knew the song was on the album. Yeah. Why did you check? Just to make sure. Yeah, I tried to see when it was actually released. And so what did you Google? You know, you typed into a work computer what word? You know, doggy something. Doggy style. That's the name of the album, right? Very innocent. That's right. Yeah. So you type that in, not Snoop Dogg. You know, pump, pump, pump. No, no, you. You went. You just decided to go to your Google on your work computer and type doggy style. That's a bad job. Enter. And then what happened? I got the block content, and I'd immediately put my head down. It was like, you know what I did your phone start ringing? I'm gonna have a good karma and Disney knocking at my door very soon. I'm saying this now. I'll say it again next week when Don's here. And this is for everybody to hear, including the bosses. The MVP of the summer at our station, especially for this show. And, Anthony, this is not a reflection of you, because I'll take it. But you took time off. The MVP for the summer has been Jacob Perry. I appreciate making the effort, creating. Creating conversation by just pressing a button. Understanding his hosts and what. What gets him to react, what puts him in the right mood. That stuff's important. Will you forget to, you know, put a home run call up on the board for Donald Greco? What happens? But that's okay. You're not perfect. I didn't say you were perfect. But as far as MVPs go, you should get it for this summer. Well, Alan, I thank you for that because you did mention it yesterday, but, you know, I was very humble about it, but my ears puckered up yesterday until you said free lunch, and I was like, you know what? You got me. That's. That's all I need. Give me some free lunch, and I'm good. Oh, yeah, we got you next week. Oh, thank you, bud. I'll cash it in whenever. It doesn't have to be next week. Yeah, whenever you want to When? Yeah, of course, that'll. That'll be a. Out of the blue. You'll just be like, hey, remember that lunch? You'll get like. It was like the Seinfeld episode with Mendy's. Remember that lunch we're gonna get? Oh, my God. Yeah, we gotta get this guy lunch. Oh, yeah. Let's go. Let's go for a nice steakhouse for lunch. Oh, yeah. Let's all treat. Come on, let's. And we got to put a budget on this lunch. I want to sit down. First of all.
Peter Rosenberg
What kind of lunch?
Alan Hahn
You talk. I want to sit down. As gentlemen. We never got to hit our sushi date. We left that in the wind. Sushi thing did die, but we should probably bring it back. And I have a good idea of when we should definitely bring it back when we all come back together in the fall. The fall season started, and did Don.
Peter Rosenberg
Ever try the sushi?
Alan Hahn
No. No. We got to. We got to strap him down, man.
Peter Rosenberg
Still hasn't tasted sushi.
Alan Hahn
Like, most of our plans, they die very quickly. Very quickly. But now, you know, once. Once the roof is more accessible, weather wise, I think that's probably a good idea. You know what I mean? Like, post show sush up on the roof. Thoughts?
Peter Rosenberg
I wonder. I wonder, like, you know, how Don was, like, basically willing to be on the roof even if it's hotter than the face of the sun.
Alan Hahn
Yeah. Which I don't.
Peter Rosenberg
I wonder. I wonder how far he goes the other direction.
Alan Hahn
Oh, I mean, like too cold or too dark.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. Like, when does he keep hanging onto the roof? When it's like 48?
Alan Hahn
Well, yeah, I could live with.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, I can do 50s for sure.
Alan Hahn
Cold, windy 48. In New York City, it hits a sunny 48.
Peter Rosenberg
We could do.
Alan Hahn
You could do that. Yeah, I could do that.
Peter Rosenberg
By the way, you know what I don't hate in the idea of the fall?
Alan Hahn
What?
Peter Rosenberg
Assuming I. I'm not physically broken. I don't hate, for a sunny 48, chucking around the old foosball up there. You know what I mean?
Alan Hahn
Up on the roof.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, yeah.
Alan Hahn
You know, I could see so many reasons the wrong route. Yeah. But one less on the show.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, I don't mean air it out to the. To the edge, but I just mean chucking it.
Alan Hahn
You know, it's patch grass. We could do some of that.
Peter Rosenberg
I probably end up tearing another meniscus.
Alan Hahn
Yeah. Do you have any left? If you do, you'll.
Peter Rosenberg
I don't know. I don't know. I got the damn results. And now the lady from HSS hasn't called me, so I can't go over the results, which is frustrating.
Alan Hahn
We have bad news. You don't have a knee. It's not there. But the good news is you're not going to lose any athleticism.
Peter Rosenberg
That's really rude what you just did.
Alan Hahn
Hey, everybody. Game time is brought to you by Tullamore du Irish Whiskey. Because when it's game time, like when he holds it. The Mets plan to start a series with the Braves tonight with coverage immediately following us at 8 on 880 at 6:35. Any weather update from Atlanta? Because it does seem like. I know it's shocking. Might have rain all weekend in Atlanta. So we'll get you a weather update to see if in fact this game will start on time. But I see 0% today, 0% chance. Really impressive. That almost never happens. So good news 635 is when the coverage begins. Yankees continue their series with the Red Sox705 tonight in the Bronx. After what happened last night, we will discuss, tell them or do the original triple distilled, triple blended, triple cast matured Irish whiskey. Be sure to grab a telemore do or try the new Tullamore Dew. Honey, during today's action, glasses up to enjoying Tullamore Dew responsibly.
Peter Rosenberg
I like what you've done. I love what you've done. And now I'd like to go to. Let's go to d' Amelio in Flushing, who's got some. Some strong feelings.
Alan Hahn
Oh, let's rant. Let's hear it.
Caller
All right, before I start, before I start, because this is going to come off really slow, can I just give a shout out real quick?
Alan Hahn
Go ahead.
Caller
Just a shout out to my son's baseball team over there in John Jay and Coach Sosa. Big shout out to that squad for sure.
Peter Rosenberg
There you go.
Caller
All right, listen. Dominican to the bone, born and raised. Came here in 85. First game was September of 86. Been a med fan ever since, right?
Alan Hahn
Mm.
Caller
Basically where you go from there is you find the things that you need. Don't want to talk about much of last year because that was last year. But you know, the pieces that you needed in order to make it right, how come you put certain pieces and all of them that guy throws out there, they're the wrong ones. It's incredible. I've never seen something like that. August 13th was there for my birthday, full blown. The kids were there, the wife was there. Everything nice and it was different. Even when you thought they were up by that much. You were still uncertain about what you were gonna get.
Alan Hahn
You don't trust the bullpen. Now it's just. Emilio. Let me ask you. Let me ask you a question. Do me a favor. Turn your radio down or whatever it is that's picking me up. Because if you've been a fan that long of the Mets, you can answer this question then. What is the one identity of the Mets, especially when they're at their best throughout history? The one thing about the Mets that when they are, they have teams that reach the World Series, win a World Series, when you say this is what they were, the identity of the team was heart. Now it's a little more like substantial. It's a little more tangible. What was the strength of the team? Strength of the team was what?
Caller
What? Being clutch.
Alan Hahn
Starting pitching, my friend. World Series team had great pitching. The 86 great pitching. They've always had pitching. Pitching has been starting pitching. It's just been in the fabric of the organization. And what we're going to talk about on the other side here, Peter, is why Stearns, who grew up a Mets fan, should know better and decided to go against the grain. And what has been tradition, and that is now starting to bite him right now.
Peter Rosenberg
All right, we will get to the downfall of the New York Mets yesterday, and just generally, this last few weeks has been an absolute disaster. But real quickly, really quickly, it is time for the leaderboard update brought to you by Schweppes. Tommy Fleetwood in the Tour Championship has the lead 13 under, seven under through the day. He's in the clubhouse with a 63. Russell Henley, who I know Allen's a big fan of, tied there at 13 under Cameron Young, 11 under Scotty Scheffler sitting just a few strokes back at eight under. All right, and that is your leaderboard update brought to you by Schweppes. Schweppes offers a hole in one refreshment experience and is proud to sponsor PGA of America. Enhance your summer with Schweppes Seltzer or Schweppes Ginger ale.
