One day you're not gonna play football anymore. And if there's a God up above, it'll be soon.
Peter Rosenberg
Han, Huge.
Alan Hahn
No, but big.
Don La Greca
Yeah.
Alan Hahn
And Rosenberg.
Peter Rosenberg
I didn't listen to anything you just said.
Don La Greca
This is in North Dakota. This is New York.
Peter Rosenberg
This is Don, Han and Rosenberg on 880 ESPN and the ESPN New York app. I got to tell you, Don, the. The. The intro hits different on a Friday.
Alan Hahn
The.
Peter Rosenberg
The Herb Albert hits different, doesn't it?
Don La Greca
It does. I think that was his intention. I think he wrote it on a Friday.
Peter Rosenberg
He knew when he wrote the brilliance that is the song rise. He said, yeah, this is Friday Vibes. It is Peter Rosenberg. It is Don legreca. Alan Hahn is dealing with a family matter today. And we are going to have a full, full program, Don, because guess what? We have ourselves a playoff football Friday. If I had an air horn, I'd hit it right now.
Don La Greca
And it's almost a celebration of, thank God we don't have to watch the jets and Giants. We're going to watch playoff football. Now, it may not be great, but the intention is it's supposed to be good. It's playoff football and it begins tomorrow, late afternoon with the Chargers and the Texans. And that got Saturday written all over it. But then a gorgeous Saturday night game on Amazon. Pittsburgh and Baltimore, Buffalo, Denver on Sunday to kick it off. Green Bay, Philadelphia, Washington, Tampa. And then, of course, Monday, they finally got it right. The NFL move that game to Arizona, Minnesota and la. I believe there are three teams, by.
Peter Rosenberg
The way, Don, they did. They did get that right. I'm sure most of you heard by now, but last night after we went off the air, the NFL announced officially that the Rams Vikings game would. Would move to Glendale. Sorry, you were saying?
Don La Greca
So is it Glendale? I don't think I'm really going out much of a limb here. I think this weekend there are three legitimate Super bowl teams playing. Of the 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 teams that are playing this weekend into Monday, there are three in my mind, legitimate super bowl teams playing.
Peter Rosenberg
All right, I'm going to tell you who they are right now.
Don La Greca
Yes.
Peter Rosenberg
You ready?
Don La Greca
Mm.
Peter Rosenberg
We will see One of them on Saturday, it's the Baltimore Ravines.
Don La Greca
That's right.
Peter Rosenberg
And that would mean that one of them on Sunday would be the Buffalo Bills.
Don La Greca
Yes.
Peter Rosenberg
And I guess this is, this is where it gets interesting. But I assume the final one you're talking about, I assume will play at 4:30 on Sunday and that would be the Philadelphia Eagles.
Don La Greca
Yes, those. And so really the only argument for the Steve Brzezinski's of the world and my buddy Steve Dubinskis who thank God is doing okay in Southern California, he is recovering from heart surgery. So good luck to him there. Big Minnesota Viking fans. I can't put the Vikings in that conversation. Well, wait a minute, Don. They're 14 and three. I can't watching that game against the Lions. I just said I think there's a limit to what they are and I don't think they're a Super Bowl. I'd be very surprised. I'm rooting for it. I would love to see Minnesota in the Super Bowl. Don't get me wrong, but I even at 14 and 3, Peter, I don't think with Sam as good as Sam Darnold has been, I don't see that team playing three road games or actually one road game. And we'll see how it breaks down from there. Going and winning and going to the Super Bowl. Am I wrong?
Peter Rosenberg
No, no, no. It's not. It's not going to happen. Allen, of course likes the Vikings. We know that he already picked the Vikings Locked in. And by the way, later on in the show, in the 5:00 hour, we have our new segment for picks called Pick them all coined by the great Mark Ballard. And we are going to pick every game with point allotments running six down to one. So that's coming up in the five o'clock hour. We can't wait to unve. We know that Allen likes the Vikings. I hate the pick. I love the Rams. Love the Rams. Can't believe the Rams are a dog. And now listen, it's no longer a home game. But come on, what kind of home. Real home field advantage is so fi. Anyway. People are looking at Kim Kardashian and Jay Z on the big screen. It's not like the world's greatest home field, Don. I love the Rams. I think the Rams are a team that all year you're not really thinking about being great. And then you, you look up, right? They win their last five games because the last game does not count. Let's just be clear about that. They, they were so Confident. They didn't care at all. There was not even a hesitation about caring about the Seattle game.
Alan Hahn
Don.
Peter Rosenberg
They were completely out. Nothing, nothing mattered. But you look before that. And while there were some ugly games along the way here, they really, really, as the season went on, showed you who they are. And frankly, Don, they have the best quarterback in the conference. I'm sorry, like, we could, we can argue about if we want, but I really think, Don, push come to shove, he's not the quarterback. That's not the arm that scares you in the NFC more than anyone else.
Don La Greca
Yeah, because who were the candidates? It would be Sam Darnold who's had a great year.
Peter Rosenberg
But I'm telling you, Don, it's. It's my guy or that guy. Those are the two quarterbacks the most.
Don La Greca
And listen, I love the commanders this week as well, but there's always that little bit of apprehension, you know, going to the playoffs for the first time, you know, what is it going to be like for these guys?
Peter Rosenberg
For sure.
Don La Greca
You know, and you know, Baker Mayfield is a veteran and Tampa's home. I just, I just like the commander. I just don't like Tampa overall. But if there's an apprehension about Washington is that you got a kid quarterback who's never been in this situation before. Sam's not a kid anymore, but he is in this situation for the first time and maybe got exposed on that Sunday night game against Detroit, which was on the road, legitimate playoff team and looked like he was overwhelmed. The team looked like they were overwhelmed and he was a part of that. I mean, he didn't have any time to throw the football, but whatever windows were open, he missed them. So is that a little indication of what the game on Monday is going to be? Even though it's not going to be the hostile environment Detroit is, it's still a non home game going up against a veteran playoff team, a really good coach, you know, designed to try to beat you. I mean, that's, that, that's something that I think both Washington and Minnesota have to be worried about with your young quarterbacks. And the playoffs are a completely different animal. And let's also face it, Peter, you know, the commanders there were a little bit of a different team in the second half than the first half. The more film that got produced on Daniels, the more these defense and these coaches got to work on. So it's a challenge, it's a hard sport to just jump in there and win. That's what, that's why I'm appreh about Sam Darnold. I'm apprehensive a little bit about Jaden Daniels because now you go to a different gear, it's a completely different speed. And now we're going to see what these guys really are. And I'm very curious to see what these two quarterbacks are going to do in the postseason because I don't know if anything they did in the regular season is going to be relatable to what it's going to be like for Jaden Daniels in Tampa on Sunday and Sam Darnold in Arizona on Monday.
Peter Rosenberg
So I'm basically in lockstep. And guys, we're going to open the phone lines right now, 1-800-919-3776. And we're going to do a segment later on in the day where we really take everyone's rapid fire football takes and questions. But essentially and we are going to get to the College Football Playoff from last night, a much needed Ranger win. There's some Pete Alonzo news. There was a horrifying Jordan Ron on story about the state of the New York Giants. We're going to get to all of that, but right now, open the phone lines to whatever you want, but specifically these playoff games, which Don and I are so stoked about. I'm totally in agreement with you about the state of quarterbacks and the difficulty of playing playoff games. That is exactly why. And you know, I guess we probably should make our super bowl picks again today. I mean, I know we made them at the beginning of the year. Probably worth revisiting today now that we have a new radio show. Don Hahn and Rosenberg subscribe to the podcast Everywhere, by the way, everyone. And now that we have the playoff set. But that's why as a Commanders fan, I desperately wanted the Bucks. And it's not to disrespect Baker Mayfield. It's just the level of respect I have for a guy who's already done it in Matt Stafford. Like, that's who to me you don't want to see are the guys who have really shown what they're capable of. And let's be clear, even though he's never won the big game, that's what makes Jared Goff a problem in Detroit. The guys who are going to have ice in their veins because they've been on this path before. To me, those are the guys you really fear. And to your point about the Commander season, Don, I'm the first one to tell you right now, I'm not a stupid fan. We are, we are not a 12 and 5 team. We are a, we are a good upstart football team who has found the quarterback, has one great wide receiver, has some pieces on defense, but serious gaps in the secondary. Really offensively, Don, besides McLaurin and Zachary, it doesn't seem like anyone consistently catches the football for Daniels. And we talked a few years ago, I'd be a complete hypocrite if I would call out that giants team for 2022 about the games that they won by the skin of their teeth and not talk about the Commanders five wins in the final minute. I mean, that is what they have done. They have not been a dominant football team, particularly the second half of the year. But Don, I will say I love their moxie. And they did get a favorable matchup for week one.
Don La Greca
Yeah, because I listen, I respect Tampa. I respect the hell out of Todd Bowles in that defense. And I think when Baker Mayfield's been able to make of his career after such the fits and starts he went through at the beginning, I think it's a great story. But I still think they're the byproduct of an awful division. They are. And it was an awful division. It took the last week of the season to win. So I'm just not impressed with their product overall. Where as much as Washington just got by the skin of their teeth, it was still a very, very difficult division. You know, with Dallas, even though Dallas lost their quarterback and with Philadelphia could very easily go to the Super Bowl. So yeah, I know they won that Bear game on the Hail Mary and all that, but. And they're probably not a 125 team, but I just think they're better than Tampa. But to the Rams point, not only is it the formula of a championship coach and a championship quarterback, what pressure do the Rams feel? Honestly, what pressure do they feel? Is it a must win season for anybody there? I mean, they've already won their Super Bowl. There wasn't any expectations going in. They were not the favorites to win this Super Bowl. They took advantage of San Francisco blowing it. Right. They're not even getting a real home game to start the playoffs because they had to move the game to Arizona. I mean, and it's not a fan base puts a lot of pressure on them.
Peter Rosenberg
Don. They were 1 and 4. They lost to the Cardinals 41 to 10 this year. No one expected anything from this team. They already have a championship. Don. These are all the reasons I hate anyone who has to play the Rams. I think they're in a low pressure situation with a group that knows how to win and maybe the best coach in the playoffs.
Don La Greca
And you look at the other team because I don't think the Rams are going to the Super Bowl. We're just talking about in relation to having to play Minnesota is that you look at the other teams that we think can go. Baltimore, Buffalo and Philadelphia. Think of the pressure those teams are under.
Peter Rosenberg
Great point.
Don La Greca
Because you've got a quarterback that is one might win his third MVP but has not made a run in the postseason. Right. So Lamar Jackson is an amazing quarterback but there hasn't been a run yet. You know, when is Baltimore going to do it? They've got a great match up to start against the Pittsburgh team that's lost four in a row to end their season. They're going to get destroyed if they lose Buffalo. The same thing we've been waiting for. Buffalo's been banging on the door for how long? They've got an MVP candidate in Allen. You know, they can't lose at home to Denver and a rookie quarterback. Are you kidding me? Like the pressure on them and Philadelphia if the. Mark my words, if the Eagles lose to the Packers, Sirianni is fired on Monday. He's out of a job done. So imagine the pressure those three teams are under. Rams don't feel that pressure if they lose to Minnesota. No, listen. They're not going to be happy about it. But there's no pressure. But yet they've got a quarterback, they've got a coach, they've got a really good team. And there's a I and I think there's pressure on Minnesota too because of the season that they had. So I do think pressure plays a part. But the Rams, that deadly combination of experience and lack of pressure that I think make them very dangerous on Monday.
Peter Rosenberg
I think you're sleeping on them one level. I do not take them out of the conversation to win this conference. I It's who's the team? Who's the team they can't play with right now? Like. Like if you really look back at what they've done the last two months of the season, who do you think they can't play with?
Don La Greca
I would. Unless Campbell blows it. I still have Detroit. You know. It is. It is. But I have to think he learned his lesson in San Francisco last year. I have to think Detroit's coming out. That's another team that's got a ton of pressure on them. Right. When are you going to finally get a chance to do it? But I still think a buy, you know. But. But they are, you know, they are banged up. I. Would I be floored if the Rams go to the Super Bowl? I would be surprised, but I can't say that I'd be floored or shocked by it based on everything that we were just talking about.
Peter Rosenberg
Can you remind me or Anthony, remind me how they, how we move forward in the next week if the, if the Rams beat the Vikings, who they get the 4 or 5? Does the 4 or 5 winner get, get the 6, 7 winner?
Alan Hahn
Don't they recede?
Peter Rosenberg
That's what I'm saying.
Alan Hahn
So they would depend on everything else.
Peter Rosenberg
So, so Eagle, Eagles are winning. We all agree, right? I don't, I don't like, I don't like where the packers are at right now physically. So the Eagles win, they still stay at the top. It'll be Detroit, then Philly. Let's say Washington beats the Bucks. So that means the next highest ranked team would be the Rams, followed by the commanders.
Don La Greca
Right. But we do know just based on what Campbell said, that if Minnesota wins, they go to Detroit because Minnesota, Minnesota is a wild card team. So then that would, that would mean if Tampa and Philadelphia win their games as division winners, they wouldn't, they wouldn't. Detroit wouldn't have to play them. Detroit is going to play the lowest seed left.
Peter Rosenberg
Detroit would play. Detroit would play Washington in that case.
Don La Greca
If they, if they beat Tampa. Correct.
Peter Rosenberg
Correct. So. Well, I don't know, man. I could see a path where the Rams find a way. I don't know if I'm, I don't make them my pick. Now. It would show some cojones if I picked him to go to the Super Bowl. I think it'd be an interesting pick, but I do think they're a dangerous team. Don, should we talk to the people, please? 1-800-919-3776 let's start things off with Alex in the UPS truck. What's up, Alex?
Alan Hahn
Hey, what's up, boys? Happy New Year.
Don La Greca
What's up, baby?
Peter Rosenberg
Our last day to say it, by the way, Alex. Last day of Happy New Year.
Don La Greca
Yeah, I'm, I'm on board with that.
Alan Hahn
Okay. Yeah, I got you. All right. So what do you think that I want to hear your perspective, what the Giant should do. I mean, we, we could use that dual Carter. We could use the corner like Travis Hunter. We could trade that pick for someone who wants Travis Hunter. I've heard multiple people saying it's a really good idea for the Giants to accumulate picks, get more than less picks. So what do you guys think that they should get because obviously like, like Tessa said, I don't, I agree with her. I don't want any of these quarterbacks. It's, it's not a good scenario. I want a corner or I want to bring back that NASCAR package. What do you guys think they should do? You think that's a good idea?
Don La Greca
You know, it's a great point, Alex, because when you look at the Giants too, most recent super bowl wins, I know Eli was the mvp, but you can make the case that the reason they won those championships, because of Tuck, because of human Yora, the pressure. They've been obviously Strahan in that first super bowl and they haven't had that in recent vintage at all. Thibodeau was supposed to be that he hasn't. Getting some pressure off the edge is I think really important. I don't know how they feel about these quarterbacks, Alex. I'm not feeling them. But if Shane's feeling them, then by all means go out and get a quarterback. But there is going to be somebody pretty special at three, Peter, whether it's Hunter, whether it's one of these other defensive players or do you try to trade and just try to accumulate a bunch of different talent because you know what? It's not like they have. They're, they're one player away. They need a quarterback. I think they needed another couple of offensive weapons. They needed to strengthen this offensive line. There's deep. They don't really have a secondary to speak of, especially the way Banks regressed in his sophomore year. So it's tough to say I trust Shane because I don't. But I have to kind of trust what he thinks is best for the organization. And if he loves one of these quarterbacks, I can't tell him he's wrong. But I don't take a quarterback for the sake of taking a quarterback. And some of the non quarterbacks are pretty attractive. But I'll tell you what, if there was any talk about Drew Aller being a guy, not last night, not when you throw a pick late in a big game that cost you a chance at a national championship. And he didn't float my boat at all. So I think if you're basing it off of that game last night for Penn State, he's going back for his senior year. I think I locked that down for sure.
Peter Rosenberg
He, Don is someone who did not watch him all year. And then yesterday came on our radio show and heard about this is a guy you could think about picking. I walked away going, what that guy? I was not Impressed by the quarterback play yesterday. We'll get more into that in just a bit. Let's go to Brandon in Melville. Hey, Brandon. Hey, guys.
Alan Hahn
How are you?
Don La Greca
Hey, Brandon.
Alan Hahn
Hey. First off, I wanted to say I'm. I'm gonna be a new dad this year on a really cool date. It's the last time the Rangers won the Stanley Cup.
Don La Greca
Oh, congratulations.
Alan Hahn
Thank you so much.
Don La Greca
So you got some time? He got till June. You got till June to figure this all out.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, no, I just wanted to ask Peter, that's a new father as well. What's. What's some of your best advice to give?
Peter Rosenberg
I mean, I've done nothing. I'm the worst. I have nothing to offer you, except I'm. And by the way, my wife would say I'm still probably not great at this. I'm trying my absolute best to just be, like, completely present and thoughtful and on top of things. I still drop the ball even doing that. But, like, one bit of advice I've been getting from people.
Don La Greca
In fact, I.
Peter Rosenberg
Got to this advice. This is a huge name drop. But it did literally happen last night. I spoke to the great Busta Rhymes last night, okay. And Busta said, don't be offended in the early days when. And Alan said the same thing. The great Allen Hot said the same thing. Don't be offended in the early days when you feel kind of worthless because all she's going to want is mom, and mom knows how to do it naturally better. And mom is really where the action's at. Don't. Don't take offense to it. Just do all the things that you can do and be there. And that's what I'm going to attempt to do. Buster's direct quote was, little girl is not going to want your rough man hands. She's going to want mom soft hands, not your rough man hands. Don't take offense to it. So I'm just trying my best to stay present and be helpful. Brandon, congratulations. And the best of luck with the pregnancy, buddy.
Don La Greca
But just be there. That's the. Listen, somebody that went through it. There are going to be moments that you're going to be completely overwhelmed. I'll never forget this moment. I took the leave of absence. I was getting ready to get back to work. And one of the first things I did was I had a Ranger game. It was right. It was, it was. It was a. Like a Wednesday before Christmas, after Christmas and before New Year's. So it. The traffic was ridiculous. I had to leave, like four hours before the game to make sure I was going to get to the garden in time. And I left at the worst possible time. Nancy was washing the kids, and I was finally, like, leaving her for the first time. And she was. I just saw, like, how overwhelmed she was that she was going to be by herself. So being present is so important, even if you're just there, even if you're not necessarily, like, helping. Because sometimes the best thing, the best help is just to let her do it. But just your mere presence, then that support is going to be helpful. The other little piece of advice, and I told Peter this, too, the bet, one of the best pieces of advice I got was from somebody who says, your relationship with your significant other is going to change dramatically because you're going to go from the most important person in your life is your wife and your husband to now it's about the kids. So your relationship, if you're not careful, can suffer when 24 7, it's all focused on the child and you're not nurturing your own relationship. So just make sure, even if it's just sitting down and watching the news together before you go to bed, or once or twice a month, making sure that you drop the kids off of your mom's and just go to dinner, just carve out moments where it's just about you two. Because I'm telling you, it's so easy. All of a sudden, it'll be six months later and you realize that you haven't even, like, spoken to each other about anything but the kids. And if it's not nurtured, Peter, the relationship really can suffer.
Peter Rosenberg
Listen, one thing on the morning show, me and the guys and Laura have, obviously, we talk about issues like this a lot. And that's one thing I've been getting from them for years, is just, like, paying attention. Because how much the relationship changes, how much a woman changes from going to. From being a girlfriend to your wife to now a mother. The physical changes, the, the, the emotional changes, the chemical change. No, I'm. I'm going to try my best to be aware and, and be on top. Let's see if I can control the phones here properly. Let's go to Griffin in Connecticut. There he is. Hey, Grooster. Hey.
Alan Hahn
Peter. I, I get what you're. I get you on your Rams take. I just, I, I kind of disagree, and I. The reason I disagree is, to me, the Rams are coming out of a very bad division this year. They, to me, are just not the same older Rams team. Their defense is not that good, really. I'M not blown away by their defense. Their offensive line confuses me sometimes. So I'm more worried about that in the game. And it's Minnesota because I think Minnesota can get pressure on them. A team that I think could be a surprise is in the afc, and that's the Chargers. I know you guys slept on the matchup because it was Chargers, Texans. But the Chargers have a coach who knows how to win. They don't have the knee of fight Brandon Staley anymore. They have a guy who knows how to win and they have a very good quarterback and a very good defense. And in both the games that they played, the Chiefs this year, they were very close games. So I think the Chargers are a very interesting team. If they can get turnovers like they do sometimes. And Herbert plays well, the Chargers to me are very team to look out for.
Peter Rosenberg
You know what? You know what, Griffin? Thank you, buddy. I'm going to tell you this right now. I respect that phone call from you.
Don La Greca
I do.
Peter Rosenberg
The Chargers. The Chargers have put up Don over their last four games. 34, 43,000, 440 is what they've put up the last four games. Listen, there's a reason they're a road favorite, right? I mean, a. I guess Vegas doesn't really respect Houston and certainly has some respect for the coaching change in Harbaugh in la. It's. It's an interesting thought. Honestly, Don, I haven't made up my mind on that game, but it's a very interesting point.
Don La Greca
No, it's a good point because they do score a ton of points, but we'll see if those points are gonna be available to them in the playoffs to make a run. And as far as the other Viking point too, I know the Rams defense isn't great, but they do do get pressure on the quarterback. We saw what happened to Darnold under the pressure in Detroit. And another little thing that really, I think backs up what we were talking about with the Rams least penalized team of any of the teams in the playoffs. And guess who's the most penalized team? Minnesota.
Peter Rosenberg
Don't say it.
Don La Greca
So those are, those are the little things that help you win playoff games, you know, so. And is the year.
Peter Rosenberg
And to Griffin's point, on. On la, is this going to be the year where we finally walk out of a playoff game with everyone talking about Justin Herbert? We've all been kind of waiting for him to take that step. Phone lines jammed with people wanting to talk. Everything NFL, some Knicks. We're going to get to all of it. Today we have Ryan Clark in the 5:00 hour. Don, whose son is on the Notre Dame team that is now headed to the college football championship. And of course Ryan will have tons of take takes on the NFL playoffs as well. So we'll talk to Ryan after 5:00. But Don, talk to me about your bathtub.

Mean Green tweeted out. Rosenberg really said Stafford, if not Daniels, is the best quarterback of the nfc. Don legreck, are you gonna accept that golf is better? At this particular moment, with the weapons that he has, I probably would rank Goff ahead of Daniels, but I don't think what you said is that outlandish.
Peter Rosenberg
Okay, remove the weapons. Remove the weapons for a second. Goff scares you talent wise, facing him on a given week more than Daniels?
Don La Greca
Well, just because of the experience. Yeah, I think so. Yeah. You can't take the weapons away. I mean, that's.
Peter Rosenberg
I know. I guess to me it just then becomes a. It's a team conversation. Right? Like they are a better team. If you were to drop Jaden Daniels on the Detroit Lions, they might score 100 points a game. You wouldn't be able to stop anything. Like, listen, guys, I have sat here. I have sat here for 18 weeks. Anthony, I think you'd agree with me at any point. I have. I been over the top with my Daniels praise. I haven't been crazy, have I? No, I've been pretty reasonable. But I'm going to tell you guys the truth. I've watched every snap of this guy. He's not really stoppable. They don't have a super talented offense. They have an absolute grandfather.
Don La Greca
Now we're getting into athleticism, but he's still a rookie and it's still that. That, that's an Achilles heel for his first postseason game. I mean, if you.
Peter Rosenberg
But when I say fear, when I say fear, the quarterback position, I guess I mean that guy can kill you. The Detroit offense is the best offense in the playoffs. I fear the combination of everybody on that team, Gibbs included, more than any other team. I'm in lockstep but, but all I was trying to say in that moment, Don, was that when I'm looking at the quarterbacks who I worry about getting killed by a quarterback, to me, it's just me. I would put Stafford and Daniels at the top of the heap in the, in the nfc, that's just me.
Don La Greca
But it does, it does show you that there's no, there's no Jackson there, there's no Allen in the nfc, and there's no obviously Mahomes. So it is kind of open. You know, it's kind of open, but. I know. I thought it was a good conversation.
Peter Rosenberg
The tables this year will be fascinating. Say that one more time, Anthony.
Alan Hahn
The wedding tables this year will be fascinating.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, by the way, that's a great point. I don't know where the hell people are going to be sitting. It's going to be banquet table.
Alan Hahn
Now, do they still have to be wedding tables?
Peter Rosenberg
It's another great question by you.
Don La Greca
There's.
Peter Rosenberg
There's so many things to break down, but the NFC is weird in terms of the quarterback thing. Like in the, in the afc, you have at the top of the heap, the quarterback play is so dominant. It's such a crazy, crazy conference. Whereas when you go to the nfc, even though you have really strong teams at the bottom of the playoffs, even at record wise, at the top, quarterback wise. I mean, dude, in the AFC, you're talking about Mahomes, Josh, Lamar, C.J. stroud, Herbert. It's, it's really, it's a. I mean, Burrow didn't get in or he'd be in that field too. And obviously Pittsburgh and Denver, Bo Nicks, people really are loving Bo Nicks. Some. Pittsburgh has certainly run into some problems recently. There's a reason I took the Ravens, given the 10 points. But in the NFC, Don, you know, Mayfield's a good quarterback. Darnold's a nice quarterback. Jalen Hurts is a really good quarterback. Is he the great quarterback we thought he was? Don? I think he's come back to earth.
Don La Greca
But you just look, but there's talent and then there's like, nobody's scarier than Lamar Jackson. But, you know, come playoff time, everything kind of evens itself out a little bit, doesn't it? You know, so it doesn't guarantee you, you need the team around you and all that. I think Jaden Daniels is going to be special, but right at this particular moment, him being a rookie, never played a playoff game before. It's a really tough spot to be in. We're going to learn A lot about these quarterbacks. That's why I'm nevermind. Because it's the NFL playoffs. But you know we're going to find out. Sam Darnold is going to earn how much money he makes next year on Monday. Forget about everything that you saw the regular season. How much money he makes in free agency will be based on how he performs on Monday. Because if he craps the bed and nobody's going to care about anything he did 14, three. Who cares? They're going to go big spot in the playoffs. Look what happened. Big spot against Detroit to clinch the 1 seed in the NFC. Look what happened. So this is where the money's made, man. And I'm not trying to. Obviously there's only 17 regular season games. The regular season is important, but this is where you make it. This is what it's all about right here.
Peter Rosenberg
100%.
Don La Greca
This is where it's all defined. Lamar Jackson is a special, special town. If he wins the mvp, what would this be? His.
Peter Rosenberg
Yes.
Don La Greca
Lose to Pittsburgh. What is that going to do to his legacy?
Peter Rosenberg
Even if it's not his fault, Don, if they lose to Kansas City and he's not great. You talked about the pressure earlier and with it was a great point. I completely agree. The Buffalo pressure, Kansas City pressure, Detroit pressure. There's pressure on a lot of teams. Lamar could be at the absolute top of that list. This is a team that perennially goes to the playoffs, perennially dominates in the regular season. They have the head coach. The head coach in Baltimore is a lifetime appointment. Okay? Everyone loves him. They know the team is right. Granted, he's down Zay Flowers tomorrow. That's not going to be any reason they shouldn't dominate. The pressure on Lamar is gigantic. And Don, it's why on Sunday night, win or lose, honestly, this is a hot take for you, Don. I should be less concerned with the win or loss because the Commanders are not winning the super bowl this year. I should be more concerned by the poise of the kid in the game. Like you can learn so much. If Daniels comes in and absolutely shows out to me, Don, that's probably more valuable in the long term than him playing terribly and them sneaking out a win and losing the next week. You learn so much about who these guys are based on what they do starting this weekend.
Don La Greca
No question about it.
Peter Rosenberg
Let's. Let's talk to the people. We could talk football all day long. In fact, there's a. There's a good chance we will. Let's go to Dave in the car. What's up, Dave?
Alan Hahn
Hey. I wanted to take on. I wanted to get you guys take on this, you know. And what made me think about this take was I remember when Alabama was the creme de la creme of college football. And that was way before Nil and Saban and all these other big schools had their pick of the litter and basically players were kissing their feet to come there because that was your entree into getting a shot at the NFL. The Nil comes along, right? Nick Saban steps off his post and he says it became impossible. Players asking him, how much are you going to give me next year? So now you got to roll up your sleeves. I got to give Belichick credit for going to North Carolina. Big time coach, Big time coach is stepping into the fire. But Saban leave. So here's the question I have for you. Everyone's saying there's no quarterback in this draft. Whatever happened to coaching grabbing your cubes and bringing a guy in and grooming them and coaching him up the way Denver did it, the way the charges are doing it, the way the commanders are doing it. And don't tell me the three teams I just named that all of a sudden let's take the charges off because they had a pretty good quarterback already there. But there are some players in the league right now who are getting coached up. Am I wrong to think that the NFL is like slacking in the coaching department? You're telling me Shador Sanders can't play in the NFL right now? I can name five teams right now. He should be on. He should have a shot to compete for a job right off the rip.
Don La Greca
But here, but here, here's the thing. There's one thing like you, you look at panics or even Bo Nicks, the Bonix is in the playoffs. Pennix had a good year when he, when he finally had a chance to play for Atlanta. Right. But would you have taken those guys first overall? Like they may be coached up to the point where they can play and maybe they'll get to a point where they become a really good quarterback. But does that mean you're going to take them in the top three? So there's. So, yeah, I could tell. I'm sure there are coaches that can take Sanders and make him into an NFL quarterback. Same with Cam Ward. But does that mean they deserve to go one or two? So that's what these general managers are looking at, Peter? Yeah, I can make him, I can make him a quarterback, but I don't think he deserves to go that high I don't think he deserves that kind of money. When he, when he went in his first fifth year option, I think there are other players that are more valuable than him at that pick. So I think that's what it comes down to. All right, yes, Sanders and Ward can play in the NFL, but are you taking them first overall? So I think there's two different conversations to be out here. You know, Bo Nix goes to Sean Payton. He's good. What would happen if the jets drafted him? Probably get cut.
Peter Rosenberg
So there is.
Don La Greca
There is coaching them up, but that doesn't mean you elevate their value in the draft because of it.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, Dave, he made a great point, and you should be able to coach these guys up. But the bottom line is what, what we've learned and what we've seen is not everyone can. Some. Some guys can do it, and some teams can really develop quarterbacks. Don, I will believe until I, the day I die, Tom Brady goes anywhere else but New England history as we know it is completely different. I truly believe that.
Don La Greca
All right, but. But on the other end of it, if Sam Darnold forget about what he does on Monday, they're going to make a decision on whether they're going to go at McCarthy or they're going to go with Sam Darnold. They're going to base that decision on how much money am I going to have to pay him? Because if they believe they can make anybody an NFL quarterback, from a financial standpoint, wouldn't it be more prudent to make McCarthy the guy than pay Sam Darnold $50 million a year? So that factors in. So, yeah, I can make Sanders a quarterback, but do I. Am I going to take the first overall pick with him? So I think it's two different conferences, but you're right. These guys can fix them. That's the problem I have with Dable. He never fixed Jones. He didn't get anything out of Lock. Like, so you're supposed to make these quarterbacks into something, but that doesn't all of a sudden make them deserve to be in the top three in the draft.
Peter Rosenberg
And it's so complicated, too, because depending where you go, a quarterback can look good early and completely fade. You can. You can start out slow and then get coached up and become great. I think it totally depends. I could see a world in which Lamar, on a different team isn't as great as he is with John Harbaugh. I can see a word world in which RG3 doesn't end up with an aging Mike Shanahan, Don. And he has a totally different career so it really, it just completely varies. Let's go back. Let's go ahead. Blanderson. Hooper's on the phone. Hey, Blanderson.
Don La Greca
What's up man?
Alan Hahn
What's going on guys? How are you?
Don La Greca
Good.
Peter Rosenberg
We're good, buddy. Happy playoff football Friday.
Alan Hahn
Yes. Peter, before I get to your commies I just want to remind you I know your wife is a photographer and probably has a million photographer friends but my sister in law is an incredible newborn child photographer so I just wanted to throw that out.
Peter Rosenberg
No. Thank you for. Thank you for that. Send me a DM about it. Yeah, yeah. It's a totally different. Like sometimes people ask Natalie if she can photograph their newborn and Natalie's like, I mean I can but that's not what I do. And it's, it's his own art form. So Totally appreciate that.
Alan Hahn
But as for your commie, I'm wondering you just, you just brought up RG3. My question for you is I was wondering if going into this game you were having any PTSD about 2013 and you know RG3 and any worry about Daniels and Dust forbidden injury because I mean they are very similar in their athleticism and what they can do any kind of, you know, nervous at all on nervousness on your part.
Peter Rosenberg
So it's a good question. Blanderson. And let me say this. While there are similarities and play calling similarities like Don, you've. I know you've taken a lot of commander's games. They certainly, there's certainly a lot of read option with this team and they give Jaden a lot of chances to choose what he wants to do and they also have design runs for him. So you certainly see the similarities. Arm wise Jaden's on a completely different level than Robert. Like he has an absolute hose. It's just a different kind of quarterback. I don't have any. No. I occasionally when they show the comps on the screen like because he just passed Robert for yardage. I don't love stuff like that because I don't like being reminded of a bad moment. But no, it's a, it's a different guy, it's a different coach, it's a different owner, it's a different team. I, I just. This is a different life. I'm not, I don't think about it.
Don La Greca
His best attribute was his ability to run and all I keep thinking about whenever I think of RG3. Every time there'd be a big play, there'd be like a hunk of dirt in his face mask. Like he just didn't, he didn't take care of himself because he had to do all the extras to be good and it just led to him getting hurt. I, I just think, I think Daniel's just a better quarterback.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, he's, he's just a, it's a great point. He's just, and I love Robert, but Jaden's just at a different level. Thanks for listening to the Don Hahn and Rosenberg podcast. I didn't listen to anything you just said. Catch the show on demand whenever you want. Just subscribe to us wherever you get your podcasts. How do you know about this piece, Jacob? How did it. Super. This needs to be a regular for us by this man. This is one of my favorite beats all time.
Don La Greca
DJ Premier.
Peter Rosenberg
So you just looked up DJ Premier. You can't notice for me this year. You weren't born.
Don La Greca
I was born in 92.
Peter Rosenberg
So you were three years old. There you go. Yeah. Shout out to DJ Premier. It is Don Hahn and Rosenberg. It is a playoff football Friday. My guy Ryan Clark is going to join us, Don. At 5:10 today we'll talk about his son's big win in the College Football Playoff. We'll talk about NFL as well. Speaking of the NFL, football fans, listen up. Tickets for the Vikings Rams wild card game on Monday in Arizona are on sale now. So if you happen to be a Vikings or Rams fan and you were thinking about making a trip, it is official and there are going to be tickets available now. So ticketsfl.com if you're trying to go to that, Don, I think I'm gonna stay home and watch the games here.
Don La Greca
Okay. Okay then fine.
Peter Rosenberg
Real quick. Also, guys, the College Football playoff semifinals continue tonight. Last night was fun. Tonight you get Texas and Ohio State. The winner will play Notre Dame for the national title. The Main telecast on ESPN tonight with additional viewing options, of course, on ESPN2, you, News, SEC Network and so much more. Plus, if you want to listen to the game, 10:50am will have the Cotton Ball in its entirety on 880. We will join. I'm sorry on 10:50 in its entirety and will be joined on 880 after the Knicks Thunder broadcast. Big game for the Knicks, Don. They get another crack at OKC after losing to them a week ago.
Don La Greca
And they get them at home.
Peter Rosenberg
And this time you get them at home. We're off. Yesterday coming off of a win two days ago. We'll see what they're capable of. Let's go back to the phones, Don, shall we?
Don La Greca
Do it.
Peter Rosenberg
Speaking of the Knicks, how about Jaheim in Manhattan? What's up, Jaheem?
Alan Hahn
Hey, Sul. Hey. Sup, Rosenberg and $gray. How you guys doing?
Don La Greca
Good. How are you?
Alan Hahn
Yeah, I'm good. I'm good, man. Before I get to my next point, Peter, are you becoming a father? I want to say congrats.
Peter Rosenberg
Thank you, man. Thank you.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, no problem, man. And another thing, Peter. How you like Monday Night Raw w. Netflix, man? It was fire. I enjoyed it. How about you?
Peter Rosenberg
I thought it was great. I thought it was a great. I thought it was a great start to the Netflix era. Really engaging show. I thought the way they produced it was really cool. It kind of felt a little bit more like the airing of a live sports event than like a dramatic TV show. I thought. I thought it was good, man. I thought it was good. What do you have on the Knicks, Shaheen? Oh, yeah.
Alan Hahn
Okay.
Peter Rosenberg
This is what I have on the.
Alan Hahn
Knicks, Peter and Don. What. What I want them to do is they need to shut down sga.
Don La Greca
And I forgot who's that player that.
Alan Hahn
Went off because he dropped a lot of threes and he. It's like he couldn't miss. You know what I'm saying? So I believe in Tom Thibodeau. I think he's going to make some adjustments, and I believe that the Knicks will get the revenge tonight at the Garden.
Peter Rosenberg
Just let me know what you guys think.
Alan Hahn
And thank you guys so much for taking my phone call. I really appreciate it and I. Guys, have a great weekend, okay?
Don La Greca
Yeah, you too, buddy. I'd like to see them win. I think there are certain moments in a regular season where you kind of want to show what you got as one of the best teams in the NBA. They got you last week. Now you got them at home. It's not going to look great if you lose. It's not the end of the world, but it's kind of one of those measuring stick games. You want to come up big?
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. This. This Thunder team, they're good. Of course.
Don La Greca
So are you.
Peter Rosenberg
They just. It's almost a tough spot, though, because they're now coming off of their streak finally ending. They lose at Cleveland two days ago, so, you know they're going to be out to prove something. You know, like the thing about these mid market, for lack of a better word, teams like OKC and Cleveland, Cleveland being so dominant. Don, they're not taking off during the regular season. Like maybe late when we get late, and they're completely. If they're locked into ones, we'll See them start to pull up a bit, Don. But I really feel like they're on, like, a constant mission to show the league, like, we're the Oklahoma City Thunder. I don't love this spot for the Knicks.
Don La Greca
Same could have been said about Minnesota last year, too. But, you know, Boston doesn't have to worry about that. Denver doesn't have to worry about that. There's certain teams that, you know, they don't care. They've already proven it. They know they're going to come up when they need to. But Minnesota, Oklahoma City, Cleveland, they feel like they got a chip on their shoulder. They got to prove everybody how legit they are. And the Knicks are in that department, too. I think that's why the Knicks play hard every single night, because they play with a chip on their shoulder, because they want to prove it every single night.
Peter Rosenberg
Let's go back to the busy phones. By the way, Oklahoma City is a four and a half point favorite, Don. In New York. So, I mean, you know something? It's not a huge number, right? But it shows that what. What Vegas is expecting tonight. Let's go to Danny in the Poconos, who wants to talk about something unfortunate that happened yesterday on the show. Danny, how are you?
Alan Hahn
I tell you what, guys, I'm doing a lot better from yesterday. I was embarrassed, and my wife looked at me and she said, what's wrong with you?
Don La Greca
We looked at each other and said the same thing.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, Danny, hold on one second. Do we have the audio of what happened?
Alan Hahn
Do we have the audio?
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, my God. Danny, no.
Don La Greca
Oh, my.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, the back to back. The back to back curse is not what you're looking for, Danny.
Alan Hahn
No, it was. So, listen, this is what happened, Peter. I don't know you and Don. I. I tried to send you guys Instagram messages to apologize last night because I was just, like, feeling not right about it because I'm like, my first time getting on the radio and I just embarrassed myself. So I. My heart was in the right place, but then my brain from the Bronx kicked in.
Don La Greca
We think it was a good guy that did a bad thing. And the fact that you're calling up today to apologize shows me the quality of human being that you are.
Peter Rosenberg
Danny, please don't lose sleep. We know you didn't mean it. There's some people who call up and, like, intentionally try to, like, mess up. It was so clearly a mistake. I'm going to move on from this.
Don La Greca
I think you have a special place in your heart now. For the Arizona Cardinals. Peter, go ahead, and I'm going to tell you when we get back.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, that is a tease. I got it. I have no idea what you're talking.
Don La Greca
Don't look at your phone.
Peter Rosenberg
I was going to say, that said.
Alan Hahn
In its own right.
Peter Rosenberg
Really?
Don La Greca
Yeah. Don't look at your phone.
Peter Rosenberg
Wait, what part? Sad that I don't know yet, Anthony, because if Don knows, then he saw it.
Alan Hahn
That means you don't read things.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, because you sent it to the group.
Alan Hahn
It's trouble.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, I. I'm looking at a lot of things.
Alan Hahn
You're driving the ship and doing a fantastic job.
Peter Rosenberg
Thank you so much. I appreciate it.
Don La Greca
Yeah, but this part sucked.
Peter Rosenberg
I can't. Exactly. I can't. I cannot wait to find out what Don's talking about. Thanks for listening to the Don, Han and Rosenberg podcast. I don't want to know how the sausage is made, but I just want to know it's good. Hear more of Don, Allen and Peter weekday afternoon starting at 3 on 8 80, ESPN, the ESPN New York app, and your smart speakers.
