Peter Rosenberg
And Rosenberg, Go look at Redfer in that movie right now. You'll want to hook up with him. This isn't North Dakota, this is New York. This is Don Hahn and Rosenberg.
Caller
The best threesome I've ever heard on.
Peter Rosenberg
ESPN New York and streaming live on YouTube. Why do I think flicking it is so funny?
Don Hahn
It is because it's funny.
Peter Rosenberg
It's just funny. I don't know why.
Don Hahn
Just funny.
Peter Rosenberg
Welcome to the Don, Han and Rosenberg, ESPN New York. Although today it is just Don and Rosenberg.
Don Hahn
That's right.
Peter Rosenberg
Han is doing some very important family stuff.
Don Hahn
He's on assignment.
Peter Rosenberg
On assignment, but all good stuff. So sending love out to the Han fam. And Don and I got you for the next four full frontal hours, for God's sake. How are you? Don't. Good.
Don Hahn
In Toronto, did you go out and.
Peter Rosenberg
Party last night and celebrate the moment?
Don Hahn
No, there was an incident.
Peter Rosenberg
Sorry.
Don Hahn
There was an incident.
Peter Rosenberg
I'm sorry. What do you mean?
Don Hahn
During the summer, my passport expired. So I went. Got a new passport. Yeah, right.
Peter Rosenberg
I hope so.
Don Hahn
And so they told me you can get the book, the traditional passport that you're aware of. And then there's now this new thing, a card. The card they told me would work in Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean. So my understanding was, well, the book would be for Peter, who globetrots all over with wwe. If I'm going to Perth, I'll bring the book. But I'm just gonna go to Canada. I can bring the card. I'm like, great. I could just stick it in my wallet. No muss, no fuss. Don't have to worry about forgetting it, losing it all.
Peter Rosenberg
I have to be honest. I don't like the setup of the story because it doesn't sound. The payoff to the story isn't going to be. I showed them the card, no problem. I went to Toronto, right?
Don Hahn
No. So I get to the airport, plenty of time, and. But I wasn't able early To. To check in. But that's happened sometimes, especially with international flights. I'm like, all right, listen, I'll get there. I'll go to the kiosk. And it's not working. Not working. People come over. They're like, it's not. I don't know why it's not working. I said, is there an issue with the car? He's like, no, passport's a passport. There shouldn't be any issues with this. Well, after about a half hour, we found out that a passport is not necessarily a passport if it's a card. The card only works land and sea. So if I was to drive to Montreal, Peter, I could show him the card, go through. Or if I go on a cruise. No, no, I can use the card. But if I'm going to get on a plane and leave the country, I need the book. Well, the 830 left without me. I ended up going back home, which is nice. I get to spend time with the kids. And I took the first flight out this morning at 7:30. And I was in the hotel, beautiful hotel, for all of three hours to take a quick nap, shower, suit. And here I am at Scotiabank Place. They found a nice place for me, so you don't have to worry about all the ambient noise.
Peter Rosenberg
Really.
Don Hahn
To do a show? Yeah, I love this. I'm not. I'm not in the booth. They found a nice studio for me in the bowels of Scotiabank. And we're ready to go.
Peter Rosenberg
So it seems like that's gonna be our move from now on, huh?
Don Hahn
Yeah, I think so. Because it was just too, like, it's cool.
Peter Rosenberg
It's cool to have the look, but. But, like, not. Not worth it. How annoyed were you at the time, though, in the moment when you realized you had to go home?
Don Hahn
I was not happy. Because now you're talking about, you know, having to take another, you know, Uber back home. And now I hate flying day of. Because you have no margin for error now. And of course, you know, I went to bed early, but I couldn't sleep, and I was just. It was just a mess. But listen, I'm here. That's all that matters. But you asked me how my night was, and it wasn't very good. Stressful as flying commercial can be. But you know what? We're here and we're ready to move on, talk some sports.
Peter Rosenberg
Let's talk sports, shall we? Shall we? And at some point, we'll get to the World Series, which is. Which is a fun matchup.
Don Hahn
It's sexy.
Peter Rosenberg
No, it's a little sexy. I'm not gonna lie to you. It took me till last night. I'm probably like a lot of people out there to think about the Drake, Kendrick Lamar of it all. The extension Don of, of the Drake, Kendrick beef with now Toronto and Los Angeles again. I, that's. I had not thought about that. Kendrick being the ultimate modern day LA artist and Drake of course, being the, you know, Toronto mascot. Hadn't even thought about it.
Don Hahn
Now, will they do what they did last year with the Dodgers and Yankees and have somebody perform before a game? Right. Fat Joe did it for the Yankees.
Peter Rosenberg
Wow, that would be something.
Don Hahn
And then who did it for the Dodgers again? Was it ice? Ice tea?
Peter Rosenberg
It was Ice cube. Ice cube.
Don Hahn
So could you. Is, is, is it beneath them at this point or can they still bring that back and Kendrick do LA and Drake do Toronto?
Peter Rosenberg
I don't think, I don't think it'll happen. Although I could see a world in which Kendrick would do it because he is so la. But. But it kind of feels like the whole thing's over anytime you move on.
Don Hahn
You know what, you know what he should do because it's feasible. Series starts in Toronto, right?
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, that's right.
Don Hahn
So let's say the Dodgers take games one and two and they take game three in LA and they got the brooms out for game four. That's when Kendrick shows up, shows up.
Peter Rosenberg
And does not like us. Right there. Insult to injury. All right, so, but let's. Speaking of insult and injury, Don. Yeah, my God, you know, jets fans, it's already been a rough start, to say the least. It's. It's believed by most that the Knicks will win a game before the jets do, which is generally not what you want. And now Woody Johnson popped up at the owners meetings, Don.
Don Hahn
Yes, he did.
Peter Rosenberg
And decided to speak, which is never a good thing.
Don Hahn
But the media loves it because it's not a good thing for Jet fans and for the jets, but it can be entertaining at the same time. Just like, you know, people rubberneck on the highway when there's, you know, head on collision.
Peter Rosenberg
So let's go through it and kind of break down what good old Woody Johnson, the Jets owner, had to say. Does he believe in Aaron, Glenn?
Don Hahn
I do. I think Aaron. I do believe in Aaron. I've known Aaron since 1996. I was a fan. I've always been a fan of him. I see the way he handles the room. If I were a player, I would respond to him because he's the real Deal. No bs. There's no second agendas. What you're hearing is the truth. And a lot of times players don't get the truth. They get a lot of gobbledygook. Okay, okay. Nothing like the gobbledygook quote. That's always.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, here we go. Do you have confidence in him turning this thing around?
Don Hahn
It looks like he's turning around parts of it. You know, it's hard when you have a quarterback with a rating that you got. You know, I mean, he has the ability, but something just is not jiving. But if you look at any head coach with a quarterback like that, you're going to see similar results. If you go across the league, you have to play consistently at that position, and that's what we're going to try to do. Wow.
Peter Rosenberg
Wow.
Don Hahn
He's not wrong, but.
Peter Rosenberg
Wow, wow.
Don Hahn
Just completely throwing the quarterback under the bus, which the fans are going to love, by the way, because why would you want to support Justin Fields? But correct me if I'm wrong, Peter, you know, the perception at least, was that the quarterback was Aaron Glenn's guy. So as you're talking about, you're confident in Glenn and he's a great communicator. And all the yada, yada, yadas you say when you really don't know football, but you want to compliment somebody on football.
Peter Rosenberg
Mm.
Don Hahn
You take one of his decisions and completely just run over it with a bus.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, that's exactly what he's done here. He basically neutered him, too. So you just got through telling us how much you support Glenn, but you also just made the quarterback decision for him.
Don Hahn
Yes.
Peter Rosenberg
How on earth can he now run back out Justin Field now, by the way, I don't think he should run back after.
Don Hahn
I don't think he was going to.
Peter Rosenberg
And I don't think he's going to anything. Tomorrow we'll find out that it's. That it's Tyrod Taylor, but.
Don Hahn
And Savini was already reporting that. That's the. That's the conversation anyway. But still.
Peter Rosenberg
But it's just. That is, as the kids say, nasty work by Woody Johnson.
Don Hahn
Is that what the kids.
Peter Rosenberg
That's what they. That is the definition of nasty work. When you say something that's not exactly it, but it's it. I mean, this is. Jets fans. As someone who's been there, this is why you probably. And I know it's. I know Don isn't a fan of this because it kind of makes having any football conversation moot. This is why you're cursed. The curse isn't a curse. The curse is Woody Johnson. The curse is the ownership of this football team. That is the curse of the Jets. I mean, this guy. Who would you describe as the best owner in sport, San Francisco, York? Well, whoever you think is the best owner ownership group in the NFL. Woody Johnson makes Jerry Jones look like that because. Because at least Don Jerry knows what he's doing.
Don Hahn
He.
Peter Rosenberg
You may not like what he does. You may think he talks too much, fine. But he has an idea of what he's doing and he's being intentional. This guy is just a yo yo.
Don Hahn
Well, let me give you examples. Okay, you brought up Jimmy Jerry Jones. Jerry Jones knows football, relatively speaking. I wouldn't say he's a great general manager. I wouldn't say that he's a savant when it comes to football, but compared to the other owners, he is because he played it. He. I think he understands the game. His issue is his ego gets in the way and he ends up making poor decisions because of that. Then you've got John Mara, who. Great human being and knows football to an extent because he's been around it his entire life. But his problem is his heart gets in the way and he can't make clear decisions because the fan in him ends up getting in the way of making prudent business decisions. Woody just doesn't know what he's doing. All right? So there is no heart, there is no head, there is no ego. He's just. He's lost, man. I mean, he's a guy. I've met him. I've dealt with him. He's not a bad guy. He's just not. This is not his thing, man. It just. He's not in the stratosphere.
Peter Rosenberg
But it is his thing. It's his whole life.
Don Hahn
Well, it's his thing because he has billions of dollars and he bought the team. But he's not qualified to do any of this. He's not qualified to speak about it. He doesn't know it. He doesn't understand it. He proved that last year by thinking that firing Robert Sala would create a spark. Moronic. He does nothing about football. He knows nothing about running a sports team. He just happens to be a guy that's a billionaire and he's a fan and he bought the team. But when you talk to him about. He doesn't know anything about it. It was such a joke last year when he's like, I've been around this enough. And I knew that I had to let Salah Go. No, you've been, you could be around the game for a thousand years. You're never going to understand it because it's not your thing, man. It's not your thing. It would be. It'd be asking me if I just happened to be a billionaire and I bought a hospital where they operate on brains, they do brain surgery, and they do terrific work. And then they start asking me, so, what do you think of these doctors? And I answered the question. I think this doctor is really good at this. I think this doctor is really good at that. It's at that level of not understanding.
Peter Rosenberg
It's a really good point, that level. Because, Don, even if you operated the hospital for 30 years, you could have people tell you who's good. You could watch things about it on television, you still wouldn't know what made a good doctor. You wouldn't understand it. You wouldn't be basing it on facts, you'd be basing it on hunch. But everything with this, with this team is him just going out. Now, listen, people, I know you're out there thinking, how could it be possible, though? How could you be this close to it and be that much of a moron? And by the way, 1-800-919-3776, jets fans, today's the day to let it go, because I'm going to be real with you guys. Knicks season starts tomorrow. The Giants at least have something interesting going on. Who knows how much jets time we even have here? Okay, this thing is dead on arrival. So today's a great day to let your feelings be known. But, Don, you remember, without going into all the details, I had that time when I went in the, in the owner's suite and watched a Redskins game with Snyder there. He, he was literally screaming out things that you would think someone who, I'm not kidding, who's never watched the game was yelling. And this is when he'd owned the team already for 20 plus years. And I'm looking back going, there's no chance that's the owner. There's no chance that's the owner. It was the. It happens, Don. This is real.
Don Hahn
Now, the difference is, I don't think Daniel Snyder was a good guy. I don't think Woody's a bad guy. I just think he's just in way over his head. And I just laugh when they ask him questions. And listen, they gotta ask it. He's the owner of the team. He's at the owner's meetings and. But he walks around because he's been around it for 25 years. He thinks he knows how to run a team. He doesn't. And that makes him the worst owner in New York. Because the only thing worse than not knowing is actually thinking, you know, like, if he just laid out, like, let's. I'm the owner. I've got football people to make those decisions. I like Aaron Glenn. I trust Aaron Glenn. But you know what? I've got a general manager Muji, that's making the decisions, and they're going to decide what they're going to do. No, he loves to get involved. That's why he owns the team. He told Michael K years ago. Peter Michael told it on his show how many times about that. Woody said that you don't make any money owning a football team. You only make it once you sell it. So it's just a toy. It's a toy to play with. You think I knew anything about fighting in a war just because I had.
Peter Rosenberg
A GI Joe doll? Let's hold on. Maybe we'll feel better about this. Diana Rossini asked Woody, how do you let Aaron Glenn know that you believe in him?
Don Hahn
Everybody knows how badly you want to win. How have you been given Aaron confidence that you still believe him?
Peter Rosenberg
Are you.
Don Hahn
Are you hugging him every day? Literally? I don't. And what do you say to him? I say, keep the faith, man. And do you really believe in it? I do.
Peter Rosenberg
He gives him a hug. It's a joke, dude. It's a joke.
Don Hahn
No, it's.
Peter Rosenberg
It's. It's really bad.
Don Hahn
It makes me sick for the fans of this team, because he may be the single reason why this team is never going to win. And I understand that they've had their moments in 2090, on the team in 2010. You know, a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while, but as he's become, you know, further involved in this team, you just realize that a fish rots from the head. How could you ever win if this is the guy that's ultimately making your decisions?
Peter Rosenberg
How he spoke about the jets fans, too.
Don Hahn
My kids were all jets fans. Say, why we're just fans. Faith, you know, I guess it comes down to or something, but it's really an absolute phenomenon, you know, and it happens in sports. It happens in other things, but it happens particularly happens in sports. When you get this allegiance to a team. It sticks with you. It sticks with me, but it sticks with them. And I'm thankful we have fans like this. So I think they're the most important ingredient by far.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, good Thing you're giving a big.
Don Hahn
Middle finger, then lay out. And you know what you should be doing is apologizing to the them because you should be thanking your lucky stars that you have a fan base as passion is this. And you know what? If we have any kind of pulse on it, Peter, you're beginning to lose them. You saw there was nobody in the building on Sunday, all right, there's not gonna be anybody in the building next week. Fans are starting to tap out. We're not getting calls from Ira that much anymore. Allen's completely lost out on his team. I've never seen the complete disinterest in this team in all the years that I've been covering them and working in this market, watching them. I feel so bad for these fans. They deserve so much better. And he sits there and talks about their passion, and he's using their passion, making money off the backs of their passion and giving these people nothing. And yet they continue to come back. But, Peter, I'm starting to sense that maybe they're not going to continue to come back if this ends up being what it looks like it's going to be. Peter, are we going to start to see the erosion of this great fan base and that people are just going to. Are just going to.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, I will tell you, at least temporarily, I'll tell you this. And honestly, jets fans are the only ones who can tell us this. And by the way, we're live on the YouTube as well.
Don Hahn
Sure, why not?
Peter Rosenberg
If you want to watch along on the ESPN New York YouTube channel, and I'll look in the comments here as well, I'll just say this. It seems like it'll never happen. And then it happens. And, you know, I saw it, Don, firsthand. You know, you remember when they would pan out up until two years ago, I mean, when they would pan out at a. At a commander's game, they. First of all, they had to remove seats. They removed like 10,000 seats from the stadium. And then they would. They made them the colors so you could never really tell how empty it was with the seats. And then when they would really pull out, you go, there's no one there. You remember, Don, the Giants games, you'd only hear Giants fans, Cowboys games. So it will happen. I mean, it doesn't matter how loyal the fan base is. At some point, this level, when it goes so far beyond mediocrity, when it goes to, as a wise man, a man that we know and love named Michael K. Would call it, professional malfeasance at that point, it's like they're spitting in the face of their fans.
Don Hahn
Because you've. It. It's one thing not to make the playoffs for an extended period of time. It happens. Not, not to this extent, but it's going to happen. You just want to give the fans some hope, some belief. Right now, the Giants aren't very good. They're two and five. For all we know, the Giants are going to win another game this season. But they have hope because they see a quarterback and they see a reason to watch and maybe a reason to believe. And also a Giant fan. I was thinking about this the other night. You know that they eventually do figure it out, right? We've seen it. We've seen the Giants bottom out and then return in some way, shape or form. Their last super bowl is on my dvr. All right, So I can't really complain that much as bad as it's been over the last decade. But I'm seeing in Buffalo, with the Sabres, in the NHL, a once proud franchise that always sold out no matter how bad the team was. 15 years missing the playoffs, now there's 10,000 people in the building. They're starting not to care anymore because they're not seeing a return on their investment. And that's what we're seeing now. Between the PSLs and the no quarterback and the coaching changes and an owner that flat out, you know, nice guy, but just doesn't know what he's doing. How much can people take? How much? 15 years of missing the playoffs. 15 years. How many wins over the last couple of years to see what happened to Aaron Rodgers, to see what happens to every great player that ends up coming here. Not being able to find a quarterback since Joe Namath, not being able to find a coach since we bug. I mean, come on, man, they deserve better than this. You're lucky they lasted as long as they did. Did you see some of the comments from people leaving the Carolina Panther game? I mean, they're done and it's not performative, Peter, you know, oh, I'm done with this team. We always got those folks.
Peter Rosenberg
No, no, no.
Don Hahn
It's the first win. They're, they're, they're, they're on hold the very next week. I'm sensing something different here, man. And as bad as the Knicks have been, as bad as the Giants have been, as bad as the Mets have been, this is as bad as I've ever seen it. I'm looking feel like it's ever going.
Peter Rosenberg
To get any better in looking in our Chat here on, on the YouTube. I see. I was there Sunday. This is from Matt. I was there Sunday. It was brutal. Literally. First downs are the only thing to cheer for. I have to assume people who go Every week live 10 minutes from the stadium. Yeah, I don't know how you would if you're still out there. I got to talk to someone who still pulls off one of these 90 minute, two hour commutes. Like, is there still a way to enjoy this? I mean maybe if you've gotten to the point where like you don't care and so the tailgate is what you look forward to is just having a few beers, you catch up with friends, you talk about how much the team sucks. But like, I'm not that kind of football fan. You know, I was in a, I was in a horrible mood the last two weeks when my team lost. I don't, I so I don't. I'm not like that.
Don Hahn
Maybe.
Peter Rosenberg
So maybe you could be that way. And I don't don I. No judgment at all. I don't see how in what world you could still care about the results and Drive an hour, 90 minutes, 2 hours to spend your Sunday. I mean, Don, imagine with little kids, you're passing up activities, you're missing out on things to do this.
Don Hahn
You know how gorgeous it was on Sunday.
Peter Rosenberg
It was perfect.
Don Hahn
A beautiful day, was 70 degrees outside.
Peter Rosenberg
It's the fall. These fall weekends are limited.
Don Hahn
And then you're gonna go drive 90 minutes, two hours and then God knows how long it takes you to get home. Trying to get out of the parking lot, it's just not enjoyable anymore. They're not giving you anything anymore. And we're seeing an erosion of it. Both teams giants too. But at least now there seems to be some hope, some slither of hope. We'll see where it ends up going at the end of the day. But it's, it is the most beat up franchise in New York. It is. And maybe in all of sports when you think about it, it's. It's criminal what's happening. And as long as Woody Johnson is the owner, I'm sorry to say I just don't see it ever turning around now. There's a lot of reasons why people buy at Ramsey Mazda. And he talks with conviction and he talks like what he's saying makes sense. It's so. It's so sad. I can't even imagine what it's like to be a Jet fan and hear the owner of your team talk and getting confidence and making comments about the team. They do everything collaboratively. Right. So. So he was obviously part of the Justin Fields decision, right?
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, of course. I mean, on some level. But you. You have. And by the way, I. I maintain he was part of the Rodgers thing too. Right? Like, that wasn't just Aaron Glenn, obviously. Woody Johnson said, we've seen enough. I don't care what anyone says. I know Alan and I disagree on this, but he's not here, so I can say it without him responding. I always. He always says, no, you know, Aaron Glenn wanted what he wanted and they were ready to move on, blah, blah, blah. I insist that Woody Johnson said it's. I know the jets job wasn't desirable. So that's why Allen says basically Glenn could do what he wanted because there was no one else who wanted the job and Glenn was desirable. I maintain Glenn wasn't that desirable to where he was going to turn down the job. Woody, I think said, don't. Were moving forward.
Don Hahn
There's no Aaron Rodgers because there's a history behind that. Peter, if you remember when John Idzyg took the job, when he sat down, that the conversation was, oh, the first thing you're doing is trade Darrell Rivas.
Peter Rosenberg
Right.
Don Hahn
You know, and I'm sure that when Aaron Glenn sat down, he was like, by the way, you're not going to have Aaron Rodgers as your quarterback. We're letting him go. And, and it's. It's an Aaron Boone situation, like, where he doesn't get any shade thrown at him.
Peter Rosenberg
Totally agree.
Don Hahn
Because, you know, he was on board. You know, he probably was. Was happy to let Rogers go.
Peter Rosenberg
And no matter how, he did not.
Don Hahn
Sit there and tell them he was.
Peter Rosenberg
No, exactly. And he wasn't going to fight back.
Don Hahn
No.
Peter Rosenberg
If it was, hey, here's the deal. You can have. You can have your first head coaching job in New York City with millions of dollars, but the one thing is, you got to get a new quarterback. He wasn't saying, well, I'm sorry, I want Aaron Rodgers, he said, Sounds good, Mr. Johnson. We'll figure it out. Guess what? And he could justify in his head. Rogers a pain in the ass. He's not that good anymore anyway. How much worse could Justin Fields be? Well, we got news for you. Aaron Rodgers is leading a winning football team and he is not Aaron Rodgers of 2012. However, he is a winning starting quarterback. You have a guy who and again, Don and I both got this wrong. We did not know. He is not a professional, at least not on this team. I maintain if Justin Fields gets traded to San Francisco or Green Bay or Buffalo or some team where they can play football, he could be serviceable and win you a game or two. But here he is. He's not a professional. So real quick guys, some game time. Brought to you by Tullamore Do Irish.
Don Hahn

Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, you've never seen this before because when it's game time.

The vibe of being around opening night. People been waiting for this for a long time, man. A long time.
Peter Rosenberg
And it's the beginning of promise. And we'll get into some of the Knicks stuff.
Don Hahn
There's some.
Peter Rosenberg
Some weird things, some weird energy flying around. We'll get into it.
Don Hahn
Yeah, for sure.
Peter Rosenberg
Also, real quick, how about this crazy story that I was just sent?
Don Hahn
Okay.
Peter Rosenberg
I reached out to a friend of mine named Chris. He was kind of the guy. Not kind of. He was very much the guy who got me on at wwe. Lovely, man. And I reached out to him to check in. He's no longer. He doesn't work with us anymore. But I reached out. He's retired and playing golf. And he said, here's a story for you. 50 years ago today, I was playing soccer in Boston for high school's Eastern Massachusetts championships. We won. Got home just in time to see the end of game six in the World Series when Fisk hit the home run in extra innings.
Don Hahn
Wow.
Peter Rosenberg
Today I'm playing golf, and guess who's riding shotgun in my golf cart?
Don Hahn
Carlton Fisk.
Peter Rosenberg
Carlton Fisk.
Don Hahn
No way.
Peter Rosenberg
How? Make it make sense. House away. I don't get it. Pretty cool, though.
Don Hahn
That is very, very cool.
Peter Rosenberg
This is the thing about playing golf, Don. That's what we're missing out on, particularly you. I at least play a little bit. But you never know, Don. You could get out there, and before you know it, you know, Chris Osgood is sitting right there in your golf cart.
Don Hahn
That would be something. And, you know, and if you know the history of the show, maybe Owen Nolan will be sitting there.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, what if Mike Modano was sitting right there?
Don Hahn
Hey, listen, where I am right now, there's the possibility of running into a Doug Gilmore or, you know, running into Rod Brinder, Chuck Rod Brindamore, something like that.
Peter Rosenberg
It's all on the table.
Don Hahn
Rods in Carol, wherever the Carolina is. But you know what I'm saying. Sure. It's all. It's all. This is where I met Gretzky.
Peter Rosenberg
That's right.
Don Hahn
Right down the street from the Hotel Gretzky, Mike, Madonna, Kelly Chase. They're all there hanging out.
Peter Rosenberg
You hear those names for. It sounds like a Don McGregor orgy when you hear those names.
Don Hahn
Bacchanal, as Michael would say. All right, before we, before I forget before, please don't forget. I forgot yesterday. I've gotten word that my Aussie's Boneyard appearance.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh.
Don Hahn
Is going to be. It's going to air three times, but the first airing is going to be tomorrow at no noon.
Peter Rosenberg
Okay.
Don Hahn
So if you got SiriusXM Ozzy's Boneyard. Check it out. Noon to 1, my hour on that.
Peter Rosenberg
And it's you just picking the tunes.
Don Hahn
Just. I'm picking 10 songs, 10 of my favorite metal songs. And I tell some stories and I have some fun.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, I love this for you.
Don Hahn
And it's also gonna be if you have serious, like, if you're really a big, committed, serious subscriber and you have the app, it's on the app.
Peter Rosenberg
There you go.
Don Hahn
I love this.
Peter Rosenberg
All right, I'm, I want to listen to get my. Give you my, my thoughts.
Don Hahn
No, I want, I want you to critique it because I haven't like, DJ'ed and since college.
Peter Rosenberg
College radio.
Don Hahn
Don. I felt good, though. Did you Immediate all in one take.
Peter Rosenberg
Did you immediately, like start wearing Zubaz pants when you, when you sat down?
Don Hahn
Zubaz pants drinking Budweiser Nips?
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, yeah, the good old days.
Don Hahn
Yeah, it was, it was different. That a hit different then.
Peter Rosenberg
All right, let's talk to the people. 1-800-919-3776. Jets fans, you hear from Woody Johnson today doing just terrible owner stuff, completely overstepping. Burying your quarterback, claiming he supports the coach while cutting out his legs from under him. Let's go to Keith in Elmwood Park. What's up, Keith?
Caller
Hey, guys. Thank you for taking my call. Yeah, I've been a long since, my whole life a Jet fan. I'm a season ticket holder for 38 years. In those two.
Peter Rosenberg
Two years.
Caller
In those two years, my 38 years of a season ticket holder, we've had two home playoff games. It's getting to the point. It's frustrating, it's embarrassing, you know, but I'm the type of fan. My family will be back next year, you know, but it's, it has. 38 years.
Don Hahn
It hasn't. It has. Have you started to get disinterested? You haven't lost it at all?
Caller
Well, no, I, Yeah, no, you're right. I, it's just so hard.
Don Hahn
Like.
Caller
And you guys made a Point about who I live 10 minutes from the stadium. So it's that short trip. It's spending time with your family at the game, but the game itself, it's just. I just sit there most of the time. It's just. It's not enjoyable to watch anymore. It's just. It's so hard. You sit there, you wait for the wheels to fall off. You wait for a stupid penalty.
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Caller
Again, it's almost to the point you're embarrassed to say that you're a Jet fan.
Don Hahn
It's. No other walk of life would this be acceptable. Guys, really, if you went to a restaurant and got sick every night going to the restaurant, you'd stop, right? No matter. No matter how much you love the food, no matter how close it was to your house, no matter what, how great the service was, at some point you would say, enough, I can't take it anymore. Right. But in sports it's different because you're addicted. And they take advantage of that. They do. It's. Yeah. And I'm not mad at you for it. I mean, it's. It's just the way that it is. It's. That's why sports is so popular. That's why it prints money. Because in a lot of situations, in a lot of cities, they're not held accountable.
Caller
We just.
Peter Rosenberg
Right.
Caller
We joke around. It's the Joe Namath curse, you know, because he sold his soul for win Super Bowl 3. But it's beyond that now.
Peter Rosenberg
It's.
Don Hahn
I don't know.
Caller
How do you fix it?
Peter Rosenberg
I know. And here's the unfortunate part, Keith. And this is what worries me. See, I had. I had something going for me in this impossible situation. And Don, I know you and I have talked about this before and you alluded to it earlier. What I had going for me is that Dan Snyder was a terrible guy.
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
So as a result of him being a terrible guy, when you dig deep enough, guess what you find? Sexual harassment. They were doing this illegal thing. They were cutting corners here. And the D.C. media, the Washington Post specifically made it their goal to not stop reporting on everything. I thought they're gonna keep going until they eventually get him. You know why Don? Cuz there was enough smoke and you had good journalists who were like, this guy has done a lot of dirt. We're going to keep digging. Woody Johnson is just a rich business guy. I don't think there's some horrible, sordid story underneath the surface, which unfortunately for jets fans, mean the league won't be able to find a way out the league. Listen, the league would probably love to do away with Woody. You think the Hunts and the Yorks have any interest in having this guy around who is ruining a franchise in the number one market? Hell, you think the Maras are thrilled with it? The Tish is. Nobody wants this, but Don, I don't think he has any dirt there. So it may mean that you're just permanently stuck.
Don Hahn
And remember when Pete Roselle got involved with the Giants and recommended Steve. Not Steve Young, George Young, to be the general manager. That was because Tim and Wellington were fighting and he had to intervene in what they were going through. So the NFL is not going to intervene unless there's something untoward going on, unless there's some, some friction that's happening within a family, like, let's say, let's say there was a power struggle between the Johnsons, then maybe Roger Goodell would have a reason to step in and say, all right, listen, I'm going to try to, you know, figure a way for you to get out of here. But he lets these owners, if they want to bury themselves, they bury themselves. As long as they don't embarrass themselves outside of the stadium the way that Snyder did or something illegal is going on.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, that's not enough.
Don Hahn
And that's what Johnson's doing.
Peter Rosenberg
No, you hate to see infighting between Johnson's. What was the way you just described was. It was special. Whatever you said was special.
Don Hahn
We'll hear it again during enn, I guess.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, it was something. Guys, real quick. Maybe one thing that could help would be better help. You know, October 10th was Mental World Mental Health Day. Caller
Hey, I think I need better health. Yeah, I bet that's the first right off the bat. I need better health because the Jets. I'm still in the fetal position from when Testa Verde went down.
Don Hahn
And that wasn't yesterday, was a while ago.
Caller
Yeah, well, you know, I asked me, this kid asked me the other day.
Don Hahn
How old are you?
Caller
I said, I'm older than the Super Bowl. I saw Joe Namus win the super bowl, and I actually saw Neil Armstrong land on the moon on a black and white television. And I got to tell you, my jacket, my jet jacket hasn't left the closet since test of early went down. And I think in my head and I go, okay, everybody remembers where they were back in the day when JFK went down. I was in the same mindset when tester already went down. I knew what I was doing. I putting down the tile floor. I was, you know, doing some work. I'm listening to the. To the game on the radio, and all of a sudden, Tessa verdict goes down. I go, oh, you got to be kidding me. I put my jacket in my hat in the closet. It hasn't come out since then. And I'm still a loyal jets fan, but I'm sick to my stomach.
Don Hahn
Don.
Caller
Peter, when does it end? When do we get, I don't know, a quarterback? You know, when do we get an owner who is dedicated to winning, to winning, Like a Steinbrenner type of an owner? Well, when does it happen?
Don Hahn
Well, you got to do. It's not even Woody not being committed to winning because I think he wants to win. He just doesn't know how to do it. So you just got to bring in the right owner, and that's usually how things turn around, right? The Mets got Cohen, Washington finally got better ownership, and things turned around. I mean, I think that's probably the easy solution, but it's also the most difficult because what, he's not going to sell the team? You know, we just talked about. He's not going to get himself in any trouble. He's not going to be forced to sell. So how do you do it? You can't. You can't trade. You can put up billboards if you want. We did that whole act 20 years ago that didn't work out.
Peter Rosenberg
That's fun, though, right?
Don Hahn
I mean, it's a waste of money. You want to fly planes over the stadium, you're wasting your money. Yeah, not gonna change his mind. God, Vinny Testaverde got Hurt Peter in 1999.
Peter Rosenberg
I remember.
Don Hahn
That's 26 years ago. That guy has put and by the way, his jacket in the closet.
Peter Rosenberg
And by the way, even then, I mean, it was like, wow, we made something work with Vinny Testaverde. Like they were already it happened to work, but they were grasping at straws then. And that's a generation of fans ago.

Don, let's go back to the people because a lot of them are here to talk and we are there for you. Jonathan in LA as he's a Jets fan and he has an idea for a list for Don. What's up? What's up, Jonathan?
Caller
Hey guys. How's it going here? A Jets fan 35 years in. Guys, this is rinse and repeat every single year. It's like even, even, even during the rest years it was, it was a little bit of, of a phase that, that really didn't go anywhere because we had, we had the whole traffic light system. The red, blue, like the office never looked great. So it's like it's been suffering and suffering and suffering. So guys, I have a, I have an idea of a list. I was thinking of keeping it just for the jets, but I think it's too hard. You tell me, Don, but what top five players that came to New York or the jets, specifically the jets that overperformed? Because in my, in my 35 years, I don't know any, but I can't think of any player that came to the jets and over performed.
Don Hahn
I, I would you want to say Testaverde overperformed. It looked like he was cooked, right? And he's playing in a championship game. And Ryan Fitzpatrick had an amazing year that one season. You could say he overachieved.
Caller
Did he, did he play better? Did he over. Did he play better than what he played in Buffalo already? Or did he. He just like kind of played the same and then he got a contract like there's no, there's no player and, and it's. And you can actually do a top five the other way too.
Peter Rosenberg
Seeing San.
Don Hahn
Darn.
Caller
Although he didn't have a great game, but all the players that leave, as soon as they leave New York, they're great. They end up being.
Don Hahn
There's a reason why the jets are terrible is because they're run poorly and, and that's one of the things. They don't recognize talent. They don't know what they have until it's gone. They don't develop it. That's part of what happens here. But they, Ryan Fitzpatrick, I'd have to take a look, Peter, but I think he had a career year in 15. So he overachieved. Testaverde definitely did. I mean he won a Heisman Trophy in Miami, right? And then he comes to the NFL and never really clicked. And then he's playing in a Championship game. Yeah, but we're just talking about two quarterbacks. One 10 years ago, one 20 years ago, you know, or 25 years ago.
Peter Rosenberg
25. Yeah, 26. Done.
Don Hahn
You know, listen, there might have been, but. Yeah, where do they find, you know what, Wayne Crabbet, right? That was a nice story. Undrafted and became, you know, all time great player. But you know, you got 53 guys on a roster. You need more than like three in 30 years.
Peter Rosenberg
No, listen, they've had a few good players. You know, you had your Darrell Reavises, your Curtis Martins.
Don Hahn
Yeah, they had great players, but. But it takes more than just having a great player. How about, how about a couple of great teams, Peter? Wouldn't that be nice?
Peter Rosenberg
Here, let's go to Jose in Connecticut. What's up, Jose?
Caller
Hey, what's up, my guys? Two things. I had a question for you too. But first I want to talk about Jess. I just feel like I. A lot of the whole Aaron Rodgers would have been better this year. Like to me it's like the franchise is just bad. It's just bad, right? So like Aaron Rodgers, I mean, Justin fields had a 4 and 2 record with the Steelers, right? So right now Aaron went to a team where he respects the coach and they have actual, you know, functioning franchise. I think the biggest thing is actually they didn't have a rookie. You know, anyone, a plan B. Whether Rogers was old or Justin sucks, they're kind of like now in no man's land, right? So I just feel like the jets, no matter who is the quarterback, they don't have a long term plan yet. And that's some of the biggest problems.
Don Hahn
So I can live, I can live. If they want to destroy, say I'm sorry, we can't have two alpha males. We're letting you go, but you know, you can't, you can't convince me it was a good football decision, guys. You can't. Because he played well in the second half of the year. He was coming off an Achilles. You didn't want him anymore. Own it. Don't tell me that you could do better with Justin Fields or, you know, we could find a better quarter. You can't. That was, that was a football mistake. Now if you thought it was going to get in the way of Aaron Glenn, I don't know, maybe having somebody that knows, knows football on the offensive side of the ball might have helped Aaron Glenn instead of hurting Jose.
Peter Rosenberg
Had a question too.
Caller
Yeah, Yeah. I just want to know. So I don't know if you guys saw, but like right now Like, Stephen A was on Carmelo's podcast with Cass and just basically going to town on LeBron again about how he doesn't like him. I don't know, what are your thoughts of A, just Stephen A still bringing this up And B, like LeBron's best friend, one of his best friends having Stephen A on. I know that's ESPN guy, but I just kind of weird. I just want to know you guys thought it.
Peter Rosenberg
I haven't watched the interview yet. I just saw like a couple of the clips. So I am curious as to why Carmelo did it. Like, and I don't know. Jacob, do you watch any of it by any chance? I am curious to know like whether Carmelo pushed back at all or like in. In the setup of the question. So I only saw the clips and.
Don Hahn
From like, like people who've seen the interview, they kind of saying that he.
Peter Rosenberg
Was like, Stephen A was asked to question.
Don Hahn
Like, he wasn't.
Peter Rosenberg
It was something. It wasn't something that he brought up.
Don Hahn
But I did find it weird that, you know, that's supposed to be, I guess Mellow's guy LeBron. But you know, you got Stephen A bad mouthing him like the whole time there.
Peter Rosenberg
But I would say, like, I mean, he. Carmelo's at the point where he's podcasting.
Don Hahn
He's is his journalistic like integrity, like.
Peter Rosenberg
Acts at that point, like. Yeah, I mean, if you're gonna have Stephen A on the show now, listen, it's. It's a podcast. It's not, you know, the evening nightly news. That's. That's what we call enn. That's real journalism.
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
No, but it's not. It's not. It's not Edward R. Murrow or Dan Rather. So you don't have to do it. But you know, and as for Stephen, you know, Stephen A. Is going to Stephen A.
Don Hahn
This.
Peter Rosenberg
He gets. Stephen A gets a lot of mileage out of the whole LeBron thing. And I think Stephen does a masterful job with attention. In 2025, the number one commodity that it rules media is attention. And Stephen is amazing at it. And having beef with the biggest athlete in the world is compelling and people want to see it. So I'm not surprised that it came up. That is an interesting thought on the Carmelo of it all. So thanks for that. Jose, thanks for listening to the Don Hahn and Rosenberg podcast. I don't want to know how the sausage is made, but I just want to know.
Don Hahn

This episode of "Don, Hahn & Rosenberg" zeroes in on New York Jets owner Woody Johnson’s controversial comments at the NFL owners’ meetings. With Alan Hahn out, Don La Greca and Peter Rosenberg steer an hour full of raw sports talk, focusing heavily on the ramifications of Johnson's remarks regarding the Jets’ leadership and lingering franchise dysfunction. The hour weaves together biting analysis, direct quotes, and the frustrated voices of long-suffering Jets fans, capturing the angst and humor that define New York sports radio.
Don compares Woody Johnson to Jerry Jones (DAL) and John Mara (NYG), highlighting differing failures: ego vs. heart vs. sheer incompetence.
Notable Rant:
Hour 1 of “Don, Hahn & Rosenberg” uses Woody Johnson’s tone-deaf comments as a springboard for a larger, soul-searching conversation about ownership, dysfunction, and fan disillusionment across New York football. It’s a blend of sharp critique, cathartic laughter, and open hotline therapy—all delivered in the familiar voice and cadence of cynical, battle-scarred sports fans. The pain of being a Jets fan has rarely been so sharply, or humorously, articulated.
