On 8 80, ESPN, the ESPN New York app and your smart speakers. All right into the 4 o'clock hour we go with Don Lagreca and Peter Rosenberg. I'm Alan Hahn, 800-919-3776 for your calls, which we will get back to enn bottom of the hour. But right now we're joined by Adam Schefter, our ESPN NFL Insider. And just so everybody knows, he's raising awareness about the importance of screening for type 1 diabetes ahead of T1D day on April 15th. So we'll discuss that certainly with him, a very important thing. But Shefty, always great to talk to you. Thanks for coming on with us here. I find it like we get to this point before a draft and I experienced this with the NBA many years where, all right, we're weeks before. There comes a point where some truth is there, but there's still some smoke screens. How do you knife through what you feel like might be a smokescreen versus what is legitimate information?
Adam Schefter
Well, hello Alan, Don and Peter, and thank you for having me. I appreciate it. Two weeks out of the draft and I don't know, I've been doing the draft 35 years. I think you're just basically conducting the conversations that you will with the people you have relationships with, the people that you trust. And you never really know exactly how it's gonna go. And it's always interesting because you always hear a lot different things. And some things turn out to be right and some things turn out to be wrong. And the truth the matter is the teams themselves don't know a lot of the times exactly what's going to happen. You know, there's a reason that they're willing to communicate because they want to know just as much as I want to know and you want to know. We all want to know what's going to happen. And it's hard to predict that when you're getting 32 different teams together and one pick can change the course of direction on a lot of other picks.
Peter Rosenberg
And with the Giants, Adam, to me, actions speak louder than words. If you're kicking the tires on Stafford, if you're going out and getting two veteran quarterbacks, it feels to me they're not interested in Chidor Sanders or don't believe they can draft Ward. Is that the same vibe you get?
Adam Schefter
Well, I think that they would love to be able to trade up to number one for Cam Ward. I just don't think that it's going to be possible short of some offer that the Titans can't turn down. But I don't think the Giants would be willing to offer. It would take so much to get up to one that I just don't view it right now as being feasible to do so. Okay. They're sitting there at three, and for a while there were questions about whether or not Shador Sanders would go three. And it just feels like the closer we've gotten to the draft, the less those questions feel relevant and the more they're likely to take the best player at that spot. To your point, Don, the actions have shown that, you know, they've looked at all these other quarterbacks. I think that, you know, look, if they could trade up the Tammore, they would. So the actions are such that even though they've signed Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, if the right guy's there that they really love, they'll take them whether that's at three or wherever they pick at the top of the second round. So it's just got to be the right guy. And it doesn't sound like they have a high enough grade on Shador Sanders to take him at three right now.
Shefty, does this feel like more of a wild card draft in other years? There are some years where you can literally, you know, with the exception of wanting to see your. You and Mike Greenberg's handsome faces, I can sort of fast forward 1 through 5. Does it feel a bit different this year? Like you're not sure what's going to happen that night?
No, I don't think so. I think every year it's unpredictable, you know, and. And we're two weeks out. I'm going to give you the top five today. You know, hopefully I can get three of the picks right, maybe four, but I would go Cam Ward, Bravo center two, Abdul Carter, three, Will Campbell, four. Jacksonville five. I'll guess Mason Graham. Like, we'll see how many of those are right? I don't know. But it feels like it's tracking Ward, Hunter, Carter, and then we go from there.
Alan Hahn
Yeah. I'll tell you what, Shefty, that's a lot different than what I think we had been hearing. Right. What's the sudden change there then at two with the Browns, who at one point we thought was taking a quarterback, then we thought, oh, for sure. Abdul Carter, now Hunter.
Adam Schefter
Yeah. Well, I'll tell you again, first of all, it's a process, and I think teams are going through it. I've spoken to teams that told, hey, look, you know, I'm gonna. We're gonna take this quarterback. I'm like, okay. And then they were off this guy. Now, really? Okay. I had a team one time tell me, hey, you know, talk to him about a player. I'll never forget it. And they're like, why don't you put out there that he's visiting us? I'm like, you want that out there, huh? And you're like, yeah, we're not gonna take him. I'm like, okay. And this is a couple of weeks before the draft. Well, they wound up taking him, and he wound up becoming a Pro bowl quarterback. Okay. I remember calling him, like, what happened? You know, it worked out. It just. We had a change of thought. Visit went better than we thought. We liked the guy. Okay. Things change. You know, they're not locked in. That's why they have the combine. That's why they have the pro day. That's why they have 30 visits. That's why there are all these conversations. Where you start out in the process is not where you end up in the process. And initially, I think the feeling was that the Browns were going to go quarterback, because in a perfect world, they would have, but the quarterback would have been Cam Warden. He's not going to get there. So, okay, so they're off the quarterback. And then, you know, I remember people saying me saying it looked like they were leaning towards Abdul Carter. I said that because there were two different meetings with ownership and owners. Flew to State College the night before Penn State's pro day and had a great meeting with Abdul Carter, and the organization was talking about the idea of matching him up with Myles Garrett. But the more you spoke to people, the more you realize that they seem to be intrigued by Travis Hunter. And I'm not telling you the pro day clinched it for them, because I don't believe that at all. But if you just watch the way that they acted that day and how they were around Travis Hunter, and the owners were there, too, again, so it Wasn't like it was just an Abdul Carter thing. It was a Carter and a Travis Hunter thing. It just feels like they've shifted to Carter. And maybe. Maybe they were on Hunter. Maybe they were on Hunter all along. And. And, you know, we were just a little slower to figure out. And by the way, maybe the pick will be Carter. Hunter after. I don't know. I'm just reading the tea leaves and telling you, to the best of my knowledge right now, where I think it's at, and I might guess, and I emphasize guess today, would be Hunter two.
Peter Rosenberg
It's. And then the, you know, the Giants sit there at three, and if they've got the choice between Hunter and Carter, are you getting any kind of feel where they would go?
Adam Schefter
But, Don, how do you get that? Like, how do you get that they're gonna have a choice between those two?
Peter Rosenberg
If they were. I don't know. I think they're gonna. I think the choice is gonna be made for them. I agree with you. I think it's whoever they. Carter is gonna probably be gone. Or maybe it's Hunter that's gone. But I'm saying if they. If for some reason Cleveland bucks the trend and takes a quarterback and the two of them are both there at three.
Adam Schefter
Oh, it's. I don't expect that to happen.
Peter Rosenberg
Okay.
Adam Schefter
So I think the choice is going to be made for them. And if I had to guess today, I would guess that Abdul Carter. Like, I don't think it was coincidental that all of a sudden someday Brian Dabel is having breakfast in State College, Pennsylvania, with Abdul Carter week, he's coming out to visit with the Giants on Thursday. Like that all of a sudden happened because you know what their information matched up to my information. It seemed like there was a little bit of a shift in Cleveland, and it seems like it's. It's trending more towards Hunter again. Maybe that's not going to be the pick. You're doing the best teams not telling, oh, yeah, we're taking this guy. I mean, that does happen, but it's not common. But the way I'm reading it right now, it seems like it's trending towards Hunter at 2, which would leave Carter at 3.
Alan Hahn
I don't want you to feel like we're putting you, like, against the wall or shining the, you know, the lamp right in your face, saying, whatever you say here, we're going to hold you to it. Because I certainly know, like, this is not easy to predict.
Peter Rosenberg
Like, Marathon man, right? Is it safe?
Alan Hahn
Like, we. You Know, like I could hear it because, you know, you've reached that point where you probably have so much information coming in that it's a lot to process and a lot to understand. And knowing that it is volatile, it can change at any moment. What I'm, what I'm fascinated by is what you just said about. There's two stories with the Giants that fascinated me over the last couple of days. The one you just said about how Abdul Carter suddenly Brian Dabel's meeting with him and they're bringing him in because we thought all along, like you said, it's, it felt like what was going to fall to them was either going to be Travis Hunter or did they want to go with the quarterback? That's one. The other one was Brian Dable telling people at the combine, I don't do pro days, I don't go to them. And then all of a sudden there he is in Colorado. There he is in Boulder, Colorado. What?
Adam Schefter
What?
Alan Hahn
What? Like, have, do you, have you heard anything about what, what promoted that to make him and make, I mean the Giants and everybody. I think the secretary was there in Boulder for that workout.
Adam Schefter
Well, I think that, look, they have a guy that, you know, again, we still don't know that Cleveland's taking him. We don't know that. But there's a guy that's going to be a top three pick in Travis Hunter who may or may not fall to the Giants. Probably won't, but maybe will. And we have a quarterback that's probably the second rated quarterback. Right. So, you know, I don't know what Brian, Dave all was doing Friday morning, but that probably was as good a use of time as he could have that day.
Alan Hahn
True.
Adam Schefter
So, you know, and he got some frequent flyer miles and he got to go to State College on Sunday. And I don't, I don't know exactly what they had for breakfast. I don't know where they had breakfast. But you know, it would be nice if they both had eggs and then shared an order pancakes in the middle. That would have been good too. So I just think they're doing their, their due diligence.
Peter Rosenberg
And the jets at seven. I mean, I guess offensive line seems to be what the latest mocks say. But what are you hearing what the jets might do at seven?
Adam Schefter
Well, again, I would say that what happens if at number seven, Membo goes to the Raiders at six?
Peter Rosenberg
Right.
Adam Schefter
Like that would be a candidate for the jets at 7, I think.
Alan Hahn
Yep.
Adam Schefter
But he may be gone and if he's gone, I don't know, maybe that leaves Jalen Walker or Mason Graham, depending on what Jacksonville does. 5. You know, again, it's early. We're speculating, we're spitfalling. But I could see Ward 1, Hunter 2, Carter 3, Campbell Ford in New England. You know, is Jacksonville going to go Mason Graham, Jalen Walker? What are they going to do? I could see Graham Membo 6 maybe to the Raiders. I know there's been a lot of Ashton Genti talk. Maybe they do go Genty. We'll see. A lot of ways this could go. It gets very hard to predict as.

What are you hearing about Shador Sanders? Not exactly where he's going to fall in all this stuff because I know that is still it's so variable as well. But about him. Mike Tannenbaum said if his name was Jones, he'd be a second round, third round pick. There wouldn't be the same type of hype around him. I've watched him enough to see somebody that does have a ton of poise. He obviously was born into the pro life. Somebody that would come to New York and not like, let's say the Giants would take him or a big market team would take him. Doesn't look like somebody would be overwhelmed by lights and media and all that stuff. But what are they saying about him in circles in the NFL and what they think his potential is?
Adam Schefter
You know, he has turned around two college programs and he's had six offensive coordinators during 50 starts. Right. So the guy's been through some adversity here and he's produced results. And yes, his last name is Sanders. Okay. I don't know if his last name was Schefter if you were going to the second and third. In fact, if his last name was Schefter, he'd be an undrafted free agent. But the fact that he's sure Sanders, I, you know, I still think he's going to be a one. I still think he's a bona fide quarterback prospect. I heard Mel Kuiper Jr. Compare his traits coming out to the type of trades that he saw out of Joe Montana coming out of college. Now, that doesn't mean that Shador Sanders is going to be Joe Montana. He's not saying that. He's just saying that there are strong NFL traits and I think there are and I think he'll be a one. And let's see the type of NFL career he has.
Peter Rosenberg
The McAfee event, was it tomorrow? Next week? I'm trying to remember where it is in Pittsburgh.
Adam Schefter
It's, it's, it's this week.
Peter Rosenberg
It's this. Is that going to be where Rogers announces he's going to Pittsburgh?
Adam Schefter
I don't know that anything is always possible, but to try to guess what Aaron Rodgers is going to do, I really couldn't right now.
Peter Rosenberg
So what does Pittsburgh, what does Pittsburgh do if Rodgers decides to retire?
Adam Schefter
Well, it's not an ideal scenario, obviously, but that was one of the reasons they signed Mason Rudolph. And I know people well, you know, he started and won for them before. So I think that they feel like in a worst case scenario they have Mason Rudolph. I always think that there's the break the glass emergency, Kirk Cousins trade with Atlanta, Joe Flacco's out there. That doesn't preclude the possibility that maybe Pittsburgh is the team that gets Shador Sanders or Jackson Dart in the draft at some point in time. So there are options. But it is April 8th and really, the only quarterback on the roster right now is Mason Rudolph. But it's also not like Aaron Rodgers is up against the clock and needs to give them an answer. Their off season program doesn't start for another 13 days, so what does it matter if Aaron Rodgers waits another week or ten? It doesn't really matter. There's nothing that's going on. They don't have a game next week.
Right.
The draft is not until two weeks from Thursday, so there's still a little bit of time there. Ideally, yes, we don't like an answer. They'd like an answer more than me. But yeah, it would be nice if that would that was taken out to play for everybody. But that's not the way it is right now.
Alan Hahn
Always the requisite Aaron Rodgers question when it comes to New York radio. Shefty, Tell us more about T1D Day, April 15th and the importance of screening for type 1 diabetes.
Adam Schefter
Yeah, well, my wife Sherry is a type 1 diabetic and I've seen what it's like for her to manage her disease. It is, you know, it's a really hard thing and it takes its toll on her and everybody. And it's why I think it's important for people to talk to their doctors about type 1 diabetes and ask them about screening. It's better than an unexpected type 1 diabetes diagnosis that could have serious impacts. You know, having more time to prepare can make a big difference, which is why screening for T1D early is important and screening gives people valuable time to prepare. And yes, I've been engaged by Sanofi to say the message, but the fact of the matter is screening is really important. I make my living, my career off information and knowledge. And why would you not want the same information and knowledge when it comes to your own personal health? So we're just asking people to go talk to your doctor about T1D, ask them about screening and to visit screen4type1.com to learn more. That screen4time1.com to learn more.
Alan Hahn
All right, that's it, everybody. Certainly write that down. T1D day is April 15th. Shefty, thanks as always for the time. It's always good to talk to you.
Peter Rosenberg
Thanks, man.
Adam Schefter
Of course. Thank you guys for having me. I appreciate you. Have a great day. Alan, Don and Peter, thanks, buddy.
Alan Hahn
All the best. And that's why I say you could hear it, because this happens too, with a lot of NFL reporters is they'll project things that they're hearing and then it changes from day to day. And there are Fans who get frustrated by it and say, well, you said this yesterday, and you said this was gonna happen. And you do have to understand that this information is fluid, and you can't hold any. Like, mock drafts are not predictions. They're what the information is suggesting today versus the next day. When now he met with him. You heard Shefte say it. The team told him, we're bringing him in, but we're not really that age. We're not serious about it. But you know what? We brought him in. We fell in love with him, so now we're gonna take him.
Peter Rosenberg
And that's why I kind of pivoted away from. From. Okay, it sounds like Cleveland's taking Hunter to what if. Don't. Yeah, because I want to know who the Giants are going to take if both are there. And Adam is like, well, it doesn't look like he's going to be there. I know. But then last week, it looked like he was going to be there. And you don't know how much of it is just the smoke screen. How much of it is. I changed my mind. Because if the Giants have a choice of who I heard Mike Tanenbaum say that it would be Hunter. If Mike Tannenbaum was the general manager of the Giants, he would take Hunter. Then you have other people to say that Carter is the better player. The reason I ask is because I do think that if John Mara has a say, it feels like he would probably lean Hunter because Hunter is sexy, and they lost Barkley, and you're trying to win fans back. And even if you're not winning, there could be something intriguing to fans that here is the number one corner in the draft. But he could also play wide receiver. And when is he going to play wide receiver? And when I'm three and seven, and it looks like I'm out of it. Oh, this is the week they're going to break out Hunter as a wide receiver, and he has three touchdowns, and it's something to get excited about. I don't know if that's the right thing to do for the organization.
Alan Hahn
You know what, though? Funny you say that because. Do you know why Cleveland all of a sudden is kind of, like, more intrigued on this? Is because Cleveland sees him as a wide receiver. That you could also, you know, let's say fourth quarter, have a situation where you're protecting a lead, you know, the team's throwing. You know, you. You. You want to make sure you're balanced. Why? You know, with your corners so your best corners over. Here he comes in the game.
Peter Rosenberg
Right.
Alan Hahn
Throw him in, put him in a nickel, whatever it is that you could put him in. And now it's like, whoa, okay, he's out now. Like you have a package that would include him as a corner, but you see the same. But a full time wide receiver might be the way they go there. Yeah. That's my point though, is. Is that sexy. Maybe they saw something and realized like, you know what, he's got better hands than we thought. Maybe we could use him like this. I kind of like this. And just what you're saying, everything that the Browns need right now is the same thing that the Giants need is that they need that kind of electricity into the franchise that has been unplugged again.
Peter Rosenberg
And let's see, I'm guilty of this as well. But we keep going back to John Mara's words of I don't want to be here again next year as that Shane and Dable will be gone if they have another losing season. But what if they have a losing season but it looks a little bit more attractive? It's exciting, it's fun. They're losing games, but you're starting to see that there's a sexiness, something that can carry over. Could that be enough to save their job? Hey, they finished with five wins, but you know what? They started to use Hunter as a wide receiver. You saw what kind of star he can be. I'm intrigued to see what Dable maybe can do with.
Alan Hahn
Dable's offense looks good again. The veteran quarterbacks played well enough to. At least things looked. Looked normal. The defense improved because whether it's a Hunter at corner or even Carter as a. As an edge rush that now all of a sudden you got him and Burns and those two guys are just nasty. Yeah. That's what you got to have. That's all you're hoping for.
Adam Schefter
Now there is a version of it where that could happen. It would be. It would be very interesting to see if they could do that because it's.
Alan Hahn
Losing because you don't have enough talent, but playing hard and playing well enough to look good.
Adam Schefter
You get one or two wins you weren't supposed to get.
Alan Hahn
Yep.
Adam Schefter
You play hard in every game. You never go through a period where you literally looks like you're playing home games and you're not even showing up. But back to the draft of all, how does Cleveland not get a quarterback? I'm confused.
Alan Hahn
Because they don't love Sanders.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, that's.
Alan Hahn
That would be because they can't get Ward.
Adam Schefter
How did they not go pursue something.
Alan Hahn
Else though who's to say they won't do it? Remember, later on there's going to be Jalen Milroe, there's going to be the shock kid. They'll be at the top of round two. So that's so the Giants could get Milroe. And if the Giants come out of this thing where they get a Carter at three, then they take Milroe in the second or early second round. That's not awful. Milroe's not a top level elite.
Adam Schefter
Ballard thinks he should be a top 10 player because he's an absolute.
Alan Hahn
Well, you know why? Because he's got, he's got elite physic physical skills. Elite. It's all the other stuff he's not like his accuracy, little things like that. But things that could be taught at the NFL level where you take a guy like that in the second round and all of a sudden you got Jalen hurts and you don't realize it.
Adam Schefter
But the interesting thing would be exactly right. And he's of course the best case example of that. Maybe. But there are other ones as well. But maybe as we get closer.
Alan Hahn
Yeah.
Adam Schefter
Dak Prescott, you start hearing a name like that start getting mentioned. And here's what makes draft day interesting all of a sudden. If a name like that starts getting tossed around too much now you don't want to wait till the beginning of the second round. You start getting a little frisky and going do we have to get up in the back somebody? And if you're Cleveland and if Shador.
Alan Hahn
Sanders falls like some people think he might.
Adam Schefter
Now that's interesting too because the only.
Alan Hahn
Other team out of the top 10 that you would think would pass because you can pretty much book it that the jets aren't going to take them. It's nine New Orleans because they have Carr, he's already in place. They have an offensive minded head coach now. And you could create a scenario where we don't have to play him right away, but he could be. And it's. You're talking about the Southeast. He's talking about turf, you know, controlled and all the things that might work to your advantage. That and if he doesn't go there, you might not see him till the 20s. It's a real thing.
Adam Schefter
I just am confused though.
Alan Hahn
I hate it. But it's a real thing.
Adam Schefter
Deshaun Watson is very hurt.
Alan Hahn
Yes.
Adam Schefter
And when he's healthy, respectfully, he sucks. He forgot how to play. He does not know how to play.
Peter Rosenberg
A guaranteed guarantee.
Adam Schefter
I get it. But Don, he can't win games for you.
Peter Rosenberg
Do you still try to see if they can find a way to make it work?
Alan Hahn
You have to. He's too young.
Peter Rosenberg
You're giving him guaranteed money. He just got engaged. I don't know if one has anything to do with the other, but don't you have to at least try to see if you can make it work with him?
Adam Schefter
What does him getting engaged have to do with anything?
Peter Rosenberg
That maybe he's changed, maybe his life has changed. I don't know.
Adam Schefter
Some of the great cheaters of all time.
Peter Rosenberg
That's when you step it up.
Adam Schefter
That's when you got to start really getting into it.
Peter Rosenberg
I have to find anything. I'm giving this guy a mint. All guaranteed. It's obnoxious amount.
Adam Schefter
It's insane.
Peter Rosenberg
Why not try make it work? That's why I always thought you meant that money anyway.
Adam Schefter
But that was always my point. Since you're eating the money anyway. You draft a quarterback and get a rookie contract. So at least you have four years, not at two.
Alan Hahn
Again, do it in the second round. First pick, second round. That's where you do it, I guess.
Adam Schefter
And they can if they think there's a piece there.
Alan Hahn
Yeah. Again, you know, Tyler Shuck, whether it's Milroe or because Jackson Dart will still be on the board. Like those are the names that you watch.
Adam Schefter
Or if you have such a high second round pick, you can package that and a third round pick and jump back into the back of the first round. And maybe if you need to, potentially, because that is an important piece. If you're Kenny Pickett as your Kenny Pickett as your quarterback, you're trotting out next year. You just signed Miles Garrett to a gazillion dollars. You obviously believe there's a chance to win with his team. Otherwise, why are you giving Miles Garrett that much? What's the point? Let him leave.
Alan Hahn
Don't know if you think you're winning.
Adam Schefter
This year, but at some point you want to win.
Alan Hahn
But at some point, yes, yes you do.

Adam Schefter
Don Hot and Rosenberg on the ESPN New York app. We opened up a mailbag yesterday which was a big deal.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, the morning show is very upset.
Alan Hahn
What do you mean?
Peter Rosenberg
That we stole their idea.
Alan Hahn
Stole everything. Stole.
Adam Schefter
That has to be show ever to.
Alan Hahn
Nobody ever used to do emails.
Adam Schefter
Wait, wait.
Alan Hahn
Ever?
Adam Schefter
But they're joking, right?
Peter Rosenberg
No, I don't think so.
Alan Hahn
I don't think so.
Adam Schefter
Wait, Don, what did you hear? I want to know what you heard.
Peter Rosenberg
Like, oh, did you hear what the the Don Hanna Rosenberg did? Started a mailbag. I wonder where they got that from.
Alan Hahn
You're like, where do we get it from those clues? That's where I got it from.
Adam Schefter
Dhre espn@gmail.com is our email address. I'm looking at it right now. That is. I love those guys. That is an insane thought.
Alan Hahn
Now send us emails. They invented chirping the morning show. That's what we want. We want chirps, but they chirp the morning show. We'll read all of.
Adam Schefter
And send it to them too.
Alan Hahn
No, send it to us so we can read them. Because if you send it to them, they'll just delete them.
Adam Schefter
That's a. That's a really crazy take, man.
Alan Hahn
They think so.
Adam Schefter
That they think. No, that they think that they invented the mail. Every show I have has a mailbag. It's what my podcast. Have a mailbag. What are they? I know Noah was our first ever emailer. So big shout out to Noah Hart who reached out a lot of just shout outs here. Basics. Anthony Riccione saying, I love the Michael K Show. Don Hanna Rosenberg is even better.
Alan Hahn
Ooh, I'll take that.
Adam Schefter
Allen is a great addition. Thank you for emphasizing on Long island because all it is is geography with no governing body.
Alan Hahn
Thanks for sending that, mom. Appreciate it.
Adam Schefter
The company Reach Out, Lonnie says, just here to say how much we love you guys for what you do for us listeners every day. Looking forward to many, many more shows ahead. Lonnie, the chairman of the company, parentheses, it says chairman. In case you're wondering. Matthew wrote us and said, hey, guys, I just want to let you know that I love the show. You guys were talking about Batman the other day. Adam west was on an episode of Big Bang Theory. He said that he never had to tell people that he was Batman. He just walked into a room and they knew he was Batman.
Alan Hahn
How many people have that character that wherever they go, that's who you're known as? He definitely is somebody like that.
Peter Rosenberg
I can't honestly think of anything else he did. I'd have to go to IMDb, but.
Alan Hahn
It'S not worth it. But he's definitely typecast, right? I don't want to know. You could be typecast for worse than that.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, I know he was proud of it.
Alan Hahn
I asked a question yesterday while promoting the mailbag and the email address, and I just, I thought it was just a random thing to ask. I did not expect the response I got. And it was simply this. What was your first email like, platform and when did you get it? Your very first email? Now, for the old guys like me and Don, we were there when email literally started.
Peter Rosenberg
Yes.
Alan Hahn
So the first email address we had was when email was a new thing in the world. I remember showing my mother email and how it works and her just being like, oh. And you just hit a button and it just goes to someone. You don't have to put a stamp on it. Like, no, it just literally they'll get this message. It's great. So it was AOL for me, Don. And it was in 1994. Okay, I know. I think AOL started in 93 and I was still in college. I didn't need it in college. But when I got my first job, it was like, hey, you need this email address to talk to other people in the company. I was working for EA Sports. And so that was my email. And instead of using my name. Because nobody used our names back then.
Adam Schefter
No, at that time it wasn't username. We didn't know what email would be.
Alan Hahn
Right.
Adam Schefter
So you know, it would just be some sort of stupid thing.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, it was very stupid.
Adam Schefter
Natalie's original one is so good I forget. I gotta ask her. Her first email address is hilarious.
Peter Rosenberg
I don't know I had anything. That's why I didn't respond.
Alan Hahn
You had your name.
Peter Rosenberg
He just had, you know, capital D, capital L, capital G, you know, Don LaGreca.
Adam Schefter
Okay, but when was this? What did you have?
Peter Rosenberg
AOL?
Alan Hahn
Yeah, that was my first as well.
Peter Rosenberg
Prodigy didn't have anything. Right. Prodigy was my first exposure to a computer. They had it at sports phone.
Alan Hahn
I think Prodigy was a.
Peter Rosenberg
But I don't know if I had an email through Prodigy.
Alan Hahn
Sounds emailish. What was there was a Prodigy.
Adam Schefter
Prodigy.
Alan Hahn
It was earthlink.
Adam Schefter
No Earthlings. The thing that was different was like no Earthling was similar, but the original trifecta, the holy trinity.
Alan Hahn
There you go.
Adam Schefter
Of big Internet providers were AOL, America Online, Prodigy.
Alan Hahn
Yep.
Adam Schefter
And CompuServe.
Alan Hahn
CompuServe files. Done.
Adam Schefter
Those were the really big you've got mail early. Those were the early day things. But the thing is, Alan, how old Don's four years older than you?
Alan Hahn
A couple of years.
Adam Schefter
Yeah, I think, I think that age difference is enough that he didn't get to it till he was in like full adulthood. So get doing DLG would make sense. I was 94.
Peter Rosenberg
I was 30. Oh yeah, well, no, no, no, I was 26. Yeah, you were an adult.
Adam Schefter
Whereas in 94 I'm 15. So like these decisions are all. Everything's related to my old.
Peter Rosenberg
Don would add something like filthy.
Adam Schefter
Right.
Peter Rosenberg
But 26 year old Jake, what was your.
Alan Hahn
Your first email platform and did you.
Adam Schefter
Have just name or something five minutes ago? He's. He's eight years old.
Alan Hahn
That's a good point. Oh, geez.
Adam Schefter
But go ahead.
Alan Hahn
He doesn't have one yet. So I. The earliest one I remember like schooling was probably like Hotmail, like they we used it or something like that. But first email that I remember that I actually used was like Gucci man. J, like 150.
Adam Schefter
Like, just. Just taking off from the rapper Gucci, man.
Don LaGreca
Either that or like, you know, just wearing Gucci.
Alan Hahn
I mean, I didn't have no Gucci at the time.
Adam Schefter
You didn't have any. He was a dream you were dreaming of.
Alan Hahn
Now we know what to get him from Christmas.
Adam Schefter
That'll be us all pitching in together. Sure. Unless you want a scarf.
Alan Hahn
I like it.
Don LaGreca
You can use your discount, too.
Alan Hahn
I just. For me, there's so many responses that I got from it. I think a lot of people love the nostalgia of it. So again, if you just want to share it when we take calls later and if.
Adam Schefter
And also, do, do send your emails to dhrespnmail.com we ripped off the morning show. They had such a good idea to do a mailbag. It was unbelievable. We never heard such a thing. Last one, George Melendez writes us and says, or it could be Jorge. It's a Jorge situation. Hey, Don Quan Alan Han Solo and Peter WWE Rosenberg. Been listening to you guys since you started. An old Michael K Show listener here. I want to say you guys are doing a fantastic job. I'm a Marine Corps veteran and I appreciate listening to your barbs going back and forth. I find it very amusing and entertaining. From Boonton, New Jersey. Boonton, Boonton, Boonton. Whatever you say. Either way. Boontown, N.J. b, O O N. It's.
Peter Rosenberg
Right next to Pequinoc.
Adam Schefter
How do you say that one?
Peter Rosenberg
It's poquonic. Michael always would say Jeter was from Pequinoc, New Jersey, because I, you know, he made a mistake. You never just go by the spelling of a town.
Adam Schefter
Not in New Jersey, ever. It's literally always something. I don't think it is. Every single time.
Alan Hahn
Like Long Island.
Adam Schefter
Yeah, I mean, I guess that's similar.
Alan Hahn
There's. There's some Patchog and Cope.
Adam Schefter
Can I just say this? I've been living here a long time now. Spent a lot of time in Long Island. A lot of friends in New Jersey. Always kind of say, the names of the towns here are moronic. I mean, they're really stupid. Long island and New Jersey have a lot of stupid, annoying, hard to pronounce.
Alan Hahn
I was gonna say Native American references.
Adam Schefter
So I don't like what you just did. Exactly. You just did it. You just turned it around and made me smile.
Alan Hahn
Sorry. Pale face.
Adam Schefter
A degenerate. Didn't mean to disturb you. When you're a degenerate. Gringo. Pale face, animal. When really they're just hard to pronounce. My God, man. I'M from something normal. Chevy Chase, Maryland.
Alan Hahn
That's not normal like you dream about, right? Let's name the town after a comedian.
Adam Schefter
He named himself after us, but whatever he said, sure. I honestly have no clue. But anyways, send us your emails. Dhrespnmail.com not a lot there today. Lots. Having some fun?
Peter Rosenberg
It looks too positive. Come on.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, I know. We really want to hear it. Send you chirps. Thanks for listening to the Don Hahn and Rosenberg podcast. I don't want to know how the sausage is made, but I just want to know it's good. Hear more of Don Allen and Peter Weekday afternoon starting at 3 on 8 80, ESPN, the ESPN New York app, and your smart speakers.
Don, Hahn & Rosenberg Podcast - Episode Summary
Title: Hour 2: Adam Schefter & Emails
Host/Authors: Don LaGreca, Alan Hahn, Peter Rosenberg
Guest: Adam Schefter
Release Date: April 8, 2025
In this episode of the Don, Hahn & Rosenberg podcast, hosts Don LaGreca, Alan Hahn, and Peter Rosenberg welcome ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter to discuss the upcoming NFL Draft, Cleveland Browns' quarterback decisions, and the importance of type 1 diabetes screening leading up to T1D Day on April 15th. The conversation seamlessly blends in light-hearted banter about listener emails, providing both insightful analysis and engaging entertainment for listeners.
Adam Schefter provides an in-depth analysis of the NFL Draft, focusing on the complexities teams face as the draft approaches. He emphasizes the unpredictability of drafts and the challenge of discerning genuine information from smoke screens.
Alan Hahn opens the discussion by comparing the current draft season to previous years, questioning how to sift through potential smoke screens to find legitimate information.
Alan Hahn [00:18]: "But right now we're joined by Adam Schefter... How do you knife through what you feel like might be a smokescreen versus what is legitimate information?"
Adam responds by highlighting the fluid nature of draft information and the importance of trusting established relationships.
Adam Schefter [01:35]: "You’re just basically conducting the conversations that you will with the people you have relationships with, the people that you trust... It’s hard to predict when you're getting 32 different teams together and one pick can change the course of direction on a lot of other picks."
Adam shares his top five picks for the upcoming draft, reflecting his projections and the factors influencing his choices.
Adam Schefter [04:08]: "I'm going to give you the top five today... I would go Cam Ward, Bravo center two, Abdul Carter, three, Will Campbell, four. Jacksonville five. I'll guess Mason Graham."
A significant portion of the discussion revolves around the Cleveland Browns' indecision regarding their quarterback selection, debating between Travis Hunter and Abdul Carter.
Peter Rosenberg [07:15]: "And then the, you know, the Giants sit there at three, and if they've got the choice between Hunter and Carter, are you getting any kind of feel where they would go?"
Adam delves into the intricacies of the Browns' strategy, suggesting a potential shift towards Travis Hunter based on recent interactions and organizational behavior.
Adam Schefter [07:53]: "It seems like it's trending more towards Hunter at 2, which would leave Carter at 3."
The conversation expands to encompass various teams' draft strategies, potential trades, and the impact of these decisions on team dynamics. Adam discusses scenarios like the Jets potentially selecting Antoinne "Membo" Green or other defensive prospects, reflecting on Jacksonville's choices with Mason Graham and others.
Adam Schefter [11:00]: "If at number seven, Membo goes to the Raiders at six, like that would be a candidate for the Jets at 7, I think."
The hosts engage in a dynamic dialogue, exploring the implications of each team's potential picks and the broader landscape of the draft.
Alan Hahn [21:14]: "But when is he going to play wide receiver? And when I'm three and seven, and it looks like I'm out of it. Oh, this is the week they're going to break out Hunter as a wide receiver, and he has three touchdowns, and it's something to get excited about."
Midway through the episode, Adam Schefter shifts focus to an important health initiative, raising awareness about type 1 diabetes (T1D) ahead of T1D Day.
Alan Hahn [16:46]: "Shefty, Tell us more about T1D Day, April 15th and the importance of screening for type 1 diabetes."
Adam shares a personal connection to the cause, emphasizing the significance of early screening and preparation.
Adam Schefter [16:57]: "My wife Sherry is a type 1 diabetic... We're asking people to go talk to your doctor about T1D, ask them about screening and to visit screen4type1.com to learn more."
He underscores the benefits of early detection, advocating for proactive health measures to mitigate the impacts of T1D.
Towards the end of the episode, the hosts transition to a more casual segment, sharing and responding to listener emails. This segment showcases the hosts' camaraderie and appreciation for their audience.
Alan Hahn [30:11]: "What was your first email platform and when did you get it? Your very first email? Now, for the old guys like me and Don, we were there when email literally started."
Listeners reminisce about their first experiences with email, adding a nostalgic and relatable touch to the conversation.
Adam Schefter [34:02]: "Oh, geez. But go ahead."
The segment continues with humorous exchanges about email addresses and local town names, further strengthening the connection between the hosts and their listeners.
