approaching 402 in the big city. Don Hahn and Rosenberg hanging out with Ethel. 6:30, we've got that guy. Thursday at 4:30, we've got Enn at 6. Mets, Marlins, they're coming up at 6:30 as they start a four game set over at Citi Field. Marlins came off a losing 12 in a row and then swept the Phillies. Kind of crazy. Baseball's kooky, man.
Don Hahn
Yeah, you never know what you're gonna get. It's like a box of chocolates, as someone once said.
Peter Rosenberg
Yankees are in the top of the seventh inning. They're scoreless with the White Sox after losing last night again in extra innings. They're one in seven in extra innings. Got a chance to take three out of four from Chicago or splitting the four game series. Talk about sheer bliss for Michael K. Do you know where the Yankees are tomorrow? You know where they are today, right?
Don Hahn
Well, they're shown Chicago.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, they're in Chicago playing the White Sox.
Don Hahn
Oh yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
Where are they tomorrow at 220?
Don Hahn
It's something that for Michael is glorious.
Peter Rosenberg
Glorious.
Don Hahn
But he loves Chicago.
Peter Rosenberg
He loves Chicago. So where do you think he is tomorrow at 220?
Don Hahn
He loves it.
Peter Rosenberg
He's Michael K. He loves Chicago. A2, a2 10 first pitch in Chicago against the White Sox on a Thursday and then Friday, a 221st pitch in it. Wrigley at Wrigley.
Anthony
Cubs.
Don Hahn
Wow. He's. Oh, he's in heaven. Has he had this before?
Peter Rosenberg
No, I can't imagine he's ever had this before.
Don Hahn
So he's had a week in it. Basically it's going to end up being a week in Chicago.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. You know what? I don't know what the travel situ. They're nice. They're going to be staying in the same hotel when this game ends. Anthony, let's try to put a, put a call in the Michael to see if we can get him for just a second to just see.
Don Hahn
No, I want it to let him luxuriate.
Peter Rosenberg
But because. And here's The. Here's the deal. He just spent four days in Chicago with the White Sox. He spent the weekend Yankees, Cubs. I don't know if any of those games are on national television. Maybe Anthony could check it out. So he might, he might get robbed of a game or two, but. And then he's got. Tonight, he's got a Thursday night out.
Don Hahn
Oh, in the town. You think he'll go to Pequods, have some pizza?
Peter Rosenberg
No, that's not where he goes. He goes, doesn't. He goes to Giordano's.
Don Hahn
He goes to Giordano's. Yeah, I know that's right.
Peter Rosenberg
But they're not on NBC on Sunday, are they? All right, so he so get perfect. He can go sit in Wrigley Field in his shirt sleeves, enjoy a game.
Don Hahn
No, if he did that, I got
Peter Rosenberg
to tell you, that's.
Don Hahn
That's too much.
Peter Rosenberg
See, we have, we have to get him on.
Don Hahn
But no, but if he did that,
Peter Rosenberg
you don't think he's going to go to Wrigley on Saturday for the Fox game or. I think he's just going to go out Saturday night and just go nuts, go to Rush Street.
Don Hahn
Well, he's not doing that either. Right, but he's.
Peter Rosenberg
If he a 65 year old man,
Don Hahn
he's not going to Wrigley on a night off. He's just done. So you're telling me this series is a. This was a Tuesday through Thursday?
Peter Rosenberg
No, this was Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday.
Don Hahn
It was a four game series.
Peter Rosenberg
Four game series in Chicago and he
Don Hahn
did all of them like you dream about?
Peter Rosenberg
Yes.
Don Hahn
And then Friday they're right back at it again.
Peter Rosenberg
Back at it.
Don Hahn
If he on Saturday to make it his sixth straight day at a ballpark rather than taking the night like a gentleman, christening the room, if you will. If he would. If he wouldn't rather do that. I think we've lost.
Peter Rosenberg
I think he's definitely going.
Don Hahn
And let me guess, scorecard?
Peter Rosenberg
No, I don't think he scores games anymore when he's not.
Don Hahn
He better not.
Peter Rosenberg
Jacob, is he a Wrigley Saturday night or not?
Don Hahn
Come on, Jacob. I think he should. No, no, not about.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, he will. He absolutely will.
Don Hahn
You think he will.
Peter Rosenberg
Anthony, you need to break this.
Don Hahn
They really think this through, by the way, because I'm very confident in my vote, but.
Anthony
Yeah, I think you would be.
Peter Rosenberg
I'm going to tell you something. You ready for this? Yeah, I think he might fly Charlie out for the game.
Caller/Listener
Wow.
Don Hahn
Okay.
Peter Rosenberg
And I did. Why are you making a face by himself?
Don Hahn
He's putting Charlie. Charlie's going to fly for the first time.
Peter Rosenberg
No. Maybe the family comes to Chicago. I'm sure.
Don Hahn
Okay, well, that changes if the family is coming to Chicago for a weekend and Charlie's never been to Wrigley. Well, now you've completely changed.
Peter Rosenberg
I have not heard a thing. I swear to God, I have not heard a thing. Would not surprise me if he planned this. Family flies out tomorrow.
Don Hahn
See, now.
Peter Rosenberg
Now they're spending the weekend. Jody takes Cali somewhere. Maybe they go shopping or something. They go on the Wizard.
Don Hahn
They do women.
Peter Rosenberg
Things go nuts.
Don Hahn
Okay.
Peter Rosenberg
All right. Get the hair done. And then like men.
Caller/Listener
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
Charlie and Michael, like gentlemen. Charlie might have a sip of his first beer at this game.
Don Hahn
This. So this is the only. If that's the case, then I could see him going on Saturday.
Peter Rosenberg
You know what?
Don Hahn
If not. He's not going.
Peter Rosenberg
Anthony.
Anthony
I already have. So first of all, because Michael's a gem and they're in the top of the seventh inning and Jazz attempting to steal a base and is going to get picked off. Michael texted me and said I can't because my wife and son are here and we're going out right after the game and tell them I'm really sorry.
Peter Rosenberg
So I was right.
Don Hahn
Well, hold on. But you don't know when they're staying till today's Thursday. They're there for the weekend. All right? So please ask Pert. No worries. Curious, what are your guys plans on Saturday?
Peter Rosenberg
We just want to know is he going to the game Saturday or enjoying Chicago?
Don Hahn
But now that I know they're there, if he's never been to Wrigley, then he's going. I already gave you that. But I may. And then I want to follow Anthony, there's me a third text. The third text is going to be. Because if they are going, if they're not going, then you were just wrong altogether. But I think you'll be right. Now that I know Charlie's there, there's
Peter Rosenberg
no way they took a trip to Chicago to go see the White Sox for four games. They went to Chicago because they're the Cubs. Yankees. Cubs at Ray.
Don Hahn
Well, no, I think they would probably go because it's a rare situation where Michael's in one place that he happens
Peter Rosenberg
to be probably got. I wouldn't be surprised. Michael's family probably got in last night or today.
Don Hahn
I would think you're right.
Peter Rosenberg
He was taking the bus from the hotel to the stadium on Tuesday. He wouldn't have done that.
Don Hahn
No, no. They weren't there all week.
Peter Rosenberg
They were not. They probably got in last night or today. And judging by how the weather's been, was probably today. And I think it was for the purpose of having the weekend, knowing that they were off on Saturday to take him to Wrigley. To take him the Wrigley.
Don Hahn
I think you're going to be right on this, but I also want to then follow up. If Charlie's not there, would you have gone by yourself? That was the real conversation. You're bastardizing the argument.
Anthony
I have a response.
Don Hahn
All right.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, by the way. Well, play by play is going on.
Anthony
Well, they're in break right now. But at one point, there was. Enjoying Chicago.
Don Hahn
Enjoying Chicago. Correct.
Peter Rosenberg
Also, he's not going to the game.
Anthony
That is correct.
Peter Rosenberg
Ooh, that surprises me.
Anthony
And he says, even though it is supposed to pour all day.
Caller/Listener
Hmm.
Don Hahn
I'm gonna. Can I just. I want to clarify.
Peter Rosenberg
Why don't you jump into the conversation?
Don Hahn
Yeah, I'm gonna do this.
Peter Rosenberg
While we do this, Jason is in New Jersey. You're on ESPN New York. What's up, Jay?
Caller/Listener
Hey. How you doing? Good.
Peter Rosenberg
How are you?
Caller/Listener
I'm doing great, thank you, gentlemen. So I guess I should have some point of my call to your topic. Mayfield to Pittsburgh would make my day.
Don Hahn
I bet. By the way, I'm glad you brought that one up. We kind of slept. We didn't get to Pittsburgh. That would be a good choice, too.
Caller/Listener
You did not get to Pittsburgh. Yes. So, secondly, two weeks ago, you talked about that refrigerator that freezes things or cools things down real quickly. Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
I just wish that they had a microwave that froze things instead of just made things hot.
Caller/Listener
Well, I got a gift for you, and I just wanted to call to make sure that one. You were okay accepting it and that I was okay to ship it. I called Good Karma. They didn't know.
Peter Rosenberg
Okay, well, Anthony will take care of this. We'll put you on hold after the call. Go ahead.
Caller/Listener
Okay. I didn't invent it. I just bought it on Amazon. But it works perfectly.
Peter Rosenberg
And what does it do?
Caller/Listener
It cools one can at a time.
Peter Rosenberg
And how long?
Caller/Listener
It does it in one minute.
Don Hahn
No, no, no. And you're sending this to Don?
Caller/Listener
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, that's awful nice.
Don Hahn
How is this an expensive item?
Caller/Listener
No.
Don Hahn
Oh, wait. Did you invent it?
Caller/Listener
No, I'm a. I'm a counselor and an educator. I did not invent it. I. I use it at my house, and it works perfectly, and it was not expensive. But it's my appreciation to you guys every day on the way home. You make my headspace a little better so I can be with my.
Don Hahn
Very nice.
Peter Rosenberg
Thank you, Jason. I appreciate that. I'm gonna put you on hold and Anthony will give you the information. I will accept this gift. I remember when we were first talking about this. I guess it was a couple of weeks ago and there were people telling me there is something that you could purchase, but I just didn't look into all the details. But if there is something that can take one can of soda and. And cool it in a minute, Peter, that's what I'm talking about.
Don Hahn
That was the dream.
Peter Rosenberg
When I have a meal that's cold, it usually takes about a minute to heat up in the microwave. Well, if I've got a soda or something that I want, cool.
Don Hahn
Why not?
Peter Rosenberg
This sounds good. Jason, you're a gem.
Don Hahn
What people we have. By the way, what wonderful people.
Peter Rosenberg
Chris is in the Bronx. You're on. Don Hanna.
Don Hahn
Rosenberg.
Peter Rosenberg
What do you got for me?
Caller/Listener
Hey, Don. Hey, Peter. How's it going?
Peter Rosenberg
Good, what's up?
Caller/Listener
No, I just want to say that I don't think it's a good idea that the jets part ways with a first round pick for Baker and then have to pay him in excess of 50 million a year. They're not a Baker Mayfield away. They still have a whole bunch of holes on their roster that they have to fill. And the whole idea of having a top pick and using it is so that the quarterback draft can be cost controlled over, you know, four or five years. And if you add in the two, that is your tag years, you know, you could have them for seven years at a reasonable price. Yeah, I don't think it's really beneficial,
Peter Rosenberg
but I get that that's the dream, right? To be able to have a quarterback, inexpensive, under control, win a Super bowl, and then be able to add all the pieces that you need and then eventually pay him. But yeah, that's the dream. But also part of the dream is to have a quarterback. And the jets have a pretty talented team. No, I don't think they're a quarterback away either. But here's the rub. They still will have two first round picks after making this deal. If it only takes the one pick that we're asking, would you trade a first round pick? We don't know if that's what it would take, but maybe it would. You'd still have two first round picks, so you could still build your roster. Now you become attractive place for free agents to go play. I want to play with Baker Mayfield. I don't want to play with Geno Smith. I don't want to play with Justin Fields.
Don Hahn
I don't want to go to a place that has a. Has a placeholder.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, I want a guy. I want to go play with a quarterback who's 32 years old,
Don Hahn
prime of
Peter Rosenberg
his life, and he's got some talented players. It's a team that's got picks. I understand his point. Yeah. Win the super bowl when the quarterback's young. That way you're able to build up the roster. But you know, the negative part of that is then you finally win, Then you got to pay the quarterback. You got to let go all the players that you had around them because you got to pay them $55 million a year.
Caller/Listener
I.
Peter Rosenberg
Listen, that's a. That's a decent point. Yeah, you'd rather be able to draft the quarterback, but, dude, who knows if any of these quarterbacks are going to be great? You don't.
Don Hahn
It's always a crapshoot.
Caller/Listener
That's the thing.
Peter Rosenberg
And now, you know, this is what Baker Mayfield's going to be locked for 3,500 yards and at least 25 touchdowns, which is like a dream for any Jet fan. And most likely those numbers will be even better because that was a good point Danny made. Evans got hurt. They were running the ball a little bit more. This guy can go out there and throw 4,000 yards for you. Then with the weapons the jets have right now, I mean, all of a sudden, now you're in the conversation, do I think you're better than the Patriots? No. But you're in the conversation now, being a playoff team, everybody thinks about Super Bowl. How about a team making the playoffs for the first time in 15 years? How about that? Ira's in Staten Island. You're on, Don on a Rosenberg. What's up, buddy?
Caller/Listener
Hey, Don. Peter. You know, Peter, you're 100% right, what you were saying earlier, Listen, with the Mayfield deal, in a second, I would make this. I. You know, you don't know what you're going to get. And that's what Peter was talking about in the draft next year. You know what you get in the Mayfield, they could spend the money. They have the room to spend the money. If it takes a first round pick and it takes maybe a player or whatever they have to do, if this is realistic, they just have to be having a conversation with the Bucks about this deal. Because now if this roster lives up to what everybody think it might live up to, you got some veterans, got some young players, you add a quarterback Like Bacon Mayfield to this roster. Now you're talking about, you know, potentially a winning football team. I'm not talking Super Bowl. Done. You said it perfectly in the playoff conversation. And then next year you got this guy locked up for four or five years. I mean, it just should be legitimate contenders for five years.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, I think. I think it's a dream, Ira. I really do. I think it's a no brainer. So much so that it probably won't happen because it makes so much sense and maybe it would cost more than the first round pick. But you're talking about competition. Maybe Pittsburgh, after it's over with Rogers might want to go there, but I don't know. Do they have the draft capital? Do they have the room to pay a quarterback $50 million? I don't know, Miami, what do they have to be able to make this deal happen? Listen, we'll cross that bridge when we get to it. But just it was a conversation about where is the avenue for the next quarterback. And Alan was talking about it for a long time. Why do we always look at the draft as the avenue? Maybe there's a quarterback. We're thinking, what quarterback could it be? Could it Joe Burrow? Maybe he's not going to be happy in Cincinnati. And now what ends up happening happens in the NBA all the time. There's some disgruntled superstar that just kind of comes out of nowhere. All of a sudden, Giannis doesn't want to be in Milwaukee. Guess what? We can now get Giannis. Well, now there seems to be a Baker Mayfield that's disgruntled in Tampa, wants a new contract. They're not talking to him. See, these things happen.
Don Hahn
You know what I like about Baker? Don't get me wrong. So signing Baker would be a really big deal. However, it wouldn't carry quite the same pressure. And again, it's not happening anyway. But it's not carrying the same pressure that a Joe Burrow would bring because Joe Burrow is in the truly elite tier. Baker is down a tier from there, but he's still really good.
Peter Rosenberg
And Burrow's younger and Burrow's younger.
Don Hahn
But Burrow also has the injury history. So I just feel like when Allen was in fantasy land last year just suggesting the idea. No, no, you guys were. When you guys were playing your yo yo games, and I immediately was no fun and shut it down from the very beginning. The thing is, Burrow, it's one of those things where it goes, oh, my God, it has to work. You're getting Joe Burrow. We better go to a Super Bowl. You get Baker Mayfield, you. My thought is we better now be a decent team, because that's what I think. That's the level quarterback I believe Baker Mayfield is. He will steady the ship and make you a decent football team. Will you take the next step? Will you go to a championship game? There's a lot that has to happen there, but he really would at least steady the ship.
Peter Rosenberg
Right. And that's kind of what I'm looking
Caller/Listener
at,
Peter Rosenberg
John Harbaugh being for the Giants, like, everybody's jumping to it. They could be a playoff team, and we'll get into that in a little bit. I'm just trying to get back on the rails. So are the jets. Fifteen straight years of missing the playoffs. So if all of a sudden Baker Mayfield comes here and all of a sudden you're a perennial playoff team, you maybe go to a championship game, and then five years from now, it's over, and you look back and there's no championship, but five years of playoffs, couple of playoff wins, fun runs. Thank you. Thank you for putting me back on the shelf here. You know, we're in the league again because we fell behind the couch for 15 years. It's nice to be back in the living room.
Don Hahn
Yeah, we didn't know that. We've been living in a pile of lint next to a remote that you no longer have the VCR for.
Peter Rosenberg
Let's go to Joe. He's in North Carolina. You're on ESPN New York. Hi, Joe.
Caller/Listener
What's going on, boys?
Peter Rosenberg
It's all happened.
Caller/Listener
I. I wanted to chat a little bit. I have to listen to everything on pretty much the next day, so I listen to ENN every morning, and I was hearing you guys talk about how basically dramatic and deep Bluey is. And I don't have a kid, but I actually have two dogs. And I don't know if you guys know this, but Bluey is animated in a certain way that it basically allows dogs to see the colors even though they're partially colorblind.
Don Hahn
I did not.
Peter Rosenberg
I did not know.
Caller/Listener
It is. It is the trippiest thing in the world, but one of the episodes I was just happening, like, peek up while I had it on for my dogs was about the mom's sister and pretty much how she was unable to have a kid. And they go in depth about infertility, and I'm like. I'm watching the show, and I'm borderline crying, and I'm like, this is a freaking kid show.
Peter Rosenberg
Right?
Caller/Listener
And it is. It is insane, but, you know, it's. It. Really deep show, but still amazing. Did you watch me for being.
Don Hahn
Did you watch the Sleepy Time episode yet?
Caller/Listener
Yeah, I was so, like, you want to cry watching it.
Peter Rosenberg
Time for Sleepy Time Bobos.
Caller/Listener
When she goes in and the world. Yeah, like, the world, like, cracks apart and then her stuffed animals gone, and then you're like.
Don Hahn
But then at the end, when the end, the stuffed animal comes back with the other stuffies and they close the world in on her and she says goodbye. It's like, I don't even know how high are you guys? And what's happening to me?
Caller/Listener
I. I have no idea. Like, I saw that. And you're like, this is symbolic for when you go from being a young, young kid to that point where you're like, oh, I'm about to start being a preteen. And they're. They're talking about this in a 50. These episodes are like 11 to 12.
Don Hahn
It's crazy, man.
Caller/Listener
They're not.
Don Hahn
It's. They're on peds, I believe. There. There's. It's too.
Peter Rosenberg
It is. I did not know about the way they colorized it. The dogs can see it. I don't have a dog. Maybe you can test it with.
Don Hahn
A bear's a bit old now to even care enough.
Peter Rosenberg
Now, listen, I know it's over a lot of people's heads who don't have kids and wonder what we're talking about. But. But if you do. And I'm glad that. That. That caller was listening to the podcast and hearing about it, because it does hit, man. It's it. The kids, even when they go to the deep things like the infertility of the sister, the kids don't understand. They don't. There's plenty of other things for them to be able to enjoy your hair dirt about. But you as an adult are watching this with your kids and you're like, oh, my God, this is incredible stuff. And they're parents, so you might learn a thing or two about how they're handling something, because your kids might go through the same thing their kids go through, and it's just adorable. It's very well done.
Don Hahn
Thanks for listening to the Don Han and Rosenberg podcast. I didn't listen to anything you just said. Catch the show on demand whenever you want. Just subscribe to us wherever you get your podcasts. We all have that one friend. I'm talking about the Yo Yos who
Peter Rosenberg
set themselves on fire and bathe in
Don Hahn
pork and beans or know that we One person I'm here with my family who can't help but be. He's not cool. His voice is weird. He's kind of a dork. His brother's a tool. His girlfriend's annoying.
Peter Rosenberg
That guy.
Caller/Listener
I didn't know it was banner night.
Peter Rosenberg
We won't be out for that.
Don Hahn
It's time for that Guy Thursday.
Peter Rosenberg
Hey, guys, anyone want to play some
Don Hahn
ball with Don Hahn and Rosenberg?
Peter Rosenberg
He's just being that guy. That Guy Thursday. It's always fun to do that. Get into who is going to be that guy. Quick update on the Yankees White Sox and the Yankees scoreless in the bottom of the eighth inning. Now the that Guy Thursday for me,
Anthony
Peter,
Peter Rosenberg
is Robert Sala. He, of course, the head coach of the Tennessee Titans. Now, Fireman Ed does an amazing jet show on YouTube and he's been doing it for years. He takes it on the road and he had Fireman Ed on his show.
Caller/Listener
Okay.
Peter Rosenberg
And Fireman Ed had a report about something Salah said about the jets game against the Tennessee Titans on opening day. But here's.
Don Hahn
This is Jake with Fireman Ed. Jake Yasmin.
Anthony
Yes.
Peter Rosenberg
Okay. And here is Fireman Ed. What Saleh, what he's reporting Salah had apparently said.
Don Hahn
I had a little birdie that was
Peter Rosenberg
out in Tahoe that told me that Salah said they were going to be.
Don Hahn
I came directly from Salah. I can't say who said it to
Peter Rosenberg
me, but he said, we're gonna beat their.
Don Hahn
I said, oh, baby, put that on him.
Peter Rosenberg
And he wanted to make it bulletin board fodder. And Salah again saying stuff, all gas, no break. And now he's got bulletin board fodder. Now again, I don't know if it's true or not. Fireman Ed could be making it up or with a person that told Fireman Ed could have made it up. Maybe it was completely taken out of context, I don't know. But because Jake is. And his show is pretty big, it made it to Tennessee to where one of the reporters today at camp asked Saleh about it. I don't know, man. That was just made aware of it like 15 minutes ago. I must have had over a thousand fan interactions at that event. So who knows? But I mean, isn't that the objective anyway, though, man? Like, I don't think the jets are coming here week one to sit at the 50 yard line, roast marshmallows and talk about our summers. So we're getting after it. They're getting after it and made the best team win. Now here's why he's that guy. Own it, man. Clearly you said it. He could have denied it. No, I never said that. But he's like, I talked to a thousand people. If you said, we're going to beat their ad, I think he'd remember saying that.
Caller/Listener
Right?
Peter Rosenberg
You interact with a lot of fans. You were at Fan Fest a couple of weeks ago. You, you interview a lot of different people, you run into a lot of people, you remember things that you say. Especially if it's something like that. He's been around long enough to know that something like that's going to get thrown back at him. But then he turns around, say, well, isn't that the objective anyway? So it sounds like he wants to own it without owning it. If he didn't say it. Say it and say it. If you say it, well, then say it. Like, don't half ass it.
Don Hahn
Come on.
Peter Rosenberg
We live in a world right now that you say something to somebody, it's probably going to put out.
Don Hahn
Can I get out? I don't want to ruin your. That guy.
Caller/Listener
Right?
Peter Rosenberg
No. How can I change my mind?
Don Hahn
Okay, but let me push back, though. Go ahead. There's no world in which he's interacting with a million people. And someone just quick in conversation is like, what about the Jets? Week one, he goes, oh, I'm gonna kick their ass. And doesn't really think much. Literally thinks nothing of it. It's just a nothing thing to say. Is that possible?
Peter Rosenberg
I guess, but in this day and age, man, he just finished a couple of years in New York, right? When he said that receipts thing. Remember? Remember on the weekly with the K show, he says, I'm keeping receipts.
Caller/Listener
He.
Peter Rosenberg
He had to hear that all the time. Now, granted, that was on the radio and people heard it, but don't you have to know that when you're a head coach of a team and you say something that there's a very good chance, fair, that it could be taken. So if he did say that and didn't think it was a big deal, that makes him a bad guy. You gotta know that everything you say could be a big deal. But then I think he doubles down on it when he's like, well, isn't that the objective? Like, so he's. So just own it then.
Don Hahn
Yeah. So even if you don't remember it, just be like, yeah, yeah, I probably did say that because that's what our plan is. That's always what our plan is.
Peter Rosenberg
Perfect. You said I talked to a lot of people, but yeah, I probably did say that. Because I feel that.
Don Hahn
Who cares, right?
Peter Rosenberg
Exactly.
Don Hahn
Now, this is what he's.
Peter Rosenberg
Remember when on the Case show, we're all taking receipts on all the people who continually mock and say that we
Caller/Listener
ain't gonna do anything.
Peter Rosenberg
I'm taking receipts now. That sounded like it was from a press conference, but he definitely said it on our show. So he was said it. You gotta realize that you need.
Don Hahn
He's a receipt guy.
Peter Rosenberg
But you. If this was his first year and he didn't ever coach in New York, I'd say, well, you know, Robert Sala, he was a defensive coordinator in Seattle and San Francisco and probably didn't talk to the media too often. Probably doesn't realize that these things live forever. Fans are. When you say something like that, somebody probably records it. Somebody's gonna say that you said it. So if you said it, then own it. But if you didn't say it, then don't say, well, wasn't that the objective anyway? I don't know. It just. It felt like that guy. Just because I like Robert Saleh. But I do think sometimes he gets caught up in the presentation of things. Like before the game, you know, running up and down the stairs at the stadium, you know, when he was the defensive coordinator, you know, hugging and jumping everybody when they came with the I. Dude, just coach football, all right? Don't. Don't try to impress me with all the pomp and circumstance. Different things. No gas, all gas, no break. Like, these things are stupid, man. Go out there and win football games. That's what people are going to be impressed with.
Don Hahn
Is it redundant for me to then follow suit and call Fireman Ed that guy? Or is it redundant because it's a given that he's that guy?
Peter Rosenberg
No, no, you do. No, no.
Don Hahn
But I mean, isn't it. Haven't. Haven't I already basically done it? Wasn't there a time. Correct me if I'm wrong. Didn't. Didn't he cheer on the plane a couple of years ago? And I said, if I was on the plane, I'd open the emergency exit and throw them off mid flight.
Peter Rosenberg
Yes, yes. I'm not a fan either. I get. We get along with each other, but he's that guy.
Don Hahn
But this is that guy. Like you're going on a show, which is great. That Jake, you know, and this one makes Jake, you know, Jake is a big Jet guy and he talks to every kind of part of the jets world. There's a reason Mike Greenberg listens to Jake's show. He's a real Jet fan who talks to Jet people. So I get why Jake would have Fireman Ed on, but you're just kind of on there stirring it up, hoping to get a headline. Does it really. Does it really matter if he said he wants to beat the Jets? You know what? And also, do you really get the sense, Don, of all the people to have sort of like beef with on their way out? Are you really going to try to come up with some fakakta beef with Robert Sala? The team was bad, the quarterback was broken, nothing worked out. Does anybody really have an issue with Robert Salah? No one's really that you're being that guy.
Peter Rosenberg
Listen, there's nothing wrong with, you know, Fireman Ed giving out information here. This is what I heard. I'd have no problem with it if he heard. If he heard Robert Salas say it. Now, he probably got it from a good source. But when you're giving out secondhand information, it kind of. Listen, Fireman had got what he wanted, right? He's gotten, you know, he brought something up that was talked about in the press conference with Robert Sala. We're airing it. I'm sure the fans aired it. So Fireman had got exactly we wanted. He wanted some pub. He got some pub. He was hoping that this would be something that would end up on the bulletin board in the jets wall before the game, right? Now, would I do it? I wouldn't do it if I heard it from somebody else, because what good is it, right? Even if I trusted the guy, I didn't hear it. I didn't hear the context. Maybe he was kidding. If he had said it to me, I would tell the world because he said it to me. Hey, you know, I was talking to Robert Sal the other day. He says he's gonna beat the jets ass on opening day. That's a story if I, if I hear it from somebody else, Peter. And now it's secondhand. I don't feel like it's any.
Don Hahn
I heard someone saw him and he said he's gonna beat their race. It's, it's, it's. That's nothing.
Peter Rosenberg
No shade of Jake.
Don Hahn
No, no. Jake should have conversations like that. By the way, you got to fill a Jet show year round.
Peter Rosenberg
Fireman Ed's a thing. It doesn't do anything for me. And I had my. I told my story of the interaction I had with Fireman Ed. We're good. Are you? But no, listen, he's not my cup of tea because I'm not a Jet fan, you know, but he's no big fan of yours. Everybody's trying. We're all doing it. We're all trying to get arts.
Caller/Listener
Right.
Peter Rosenberg
We're all trying to get attention. And he's trying to get attention. I'm trying to get ratings. I'm trying to get people to listen to my show, you know, so we're all. We're all in this doing something. But it was everyone doing their Yo, Yo, Ranger nothing burger. But nothing burgers all of a sudden end up on the plate of the head coach that ended up in Tennessee. That's the world we live in now. That's what Robert Sallit's got to realize. It's an absolute nothing burger that 48 hours later gets asked at a press conference in Tennessee. Because everything is something now. There's no more nothing burgers. Everything's a burger. It's just a matter whether it tastes good.
Don Hahn
Right? Right.
Peter Rosenberg
Still gonna end up getting served to you now.
Don Hahn
Speaking of burgers,
Peter Rosenberg
what do you got?
Don Hahn
I asked Michael K. Oh.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, yeah.
Don Hahn
That's just something I said to Michael. Are you ready?
Peter Rosenberg
I'm always ready.
Don Hahn
Don believed that if you were alone in Chicago, you would have gone to Wrigley on Saturday. I said, no way. You would luxuriate in your hotel room. He said, likely not. And then he added, don would go to a hockey game if there was a convention of new cheerleaders at his hotel.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, probably, because what am I going to do with these new cheerleaders? No,
Don Hahn
there are people who might argue. At least it's entertaining.
Peter Rosenberg
For what?
Don Hahn
Just take a look.
Peter Rosenberg
So take a look on the way out to the hockey game or take a look for two and a half hours?
Don Hahn
Well, it depends what's going on.
Peter Rosenberg
Then they call the police.
Don Hahn
It depends what's going on at this convention. I've never been to one of these nudity conventions.
Peter Rosenberg
Listen, he keeps getting on me. Peter, you've heard the story before. We were in Tampa, Florida, for the Super Bowl. Mm. The Lightning were playing the Canadians. We were staying at a hotel that was right next to the arena. I think was Amelie arena at the time. And I said, I'm gonna go to the Canadiens Lightning game. And they were going to Hooters. And by the way, this is 15 years ago where there was a Hooters on every corner. It was worse than Starbucks. I said, no, I can go to Hooters anytime. I'm going to the Lightning Canadian game. And he made fun of me for that. Who made the right decision? Even though. Even if you're Not a big hockey fan. Who would you go with? Would you. Well, you're a bit of a suck up, but if. Take that out of the equation. Excuse me, if. Would you go to Hooters with everybody or would you go with me like a gentleman, get a couple of beers and watch a hockey game?
Don Hahn
It depends who's. There's so many factors. Where were you exactly when this whole thing came up?
Peter Rosenberg
We were in radio row in Tampa. Okay, Shows over.
Don Hahn
Show's ending.
Peter Rosenberg
Who's there?
Don Hahn
Paint the picture.
Peter Rosenberg
It's. It's me, Mike Brownshur, Ryan Hurley, Aaron Spielberg.
Caller/Listener
Okay?
Peter Rosenberg
Our program director.
Don Hahn
Right? And when the show ends, you go, hey, I'm gonna go to the hockey.
Peter Rosenberg
I'm talking about it. The whole show. I'm like, all the lightning are home. They're taking on the Canadians. I'm going, who's going with me? And because everybody thinks that Michael K. Can do things for him. What's Michael gonna do? What's my gonna do? And Michael says, you know, I'm gonna go to Hooters. And everybody, like a bunch of sycophants all just follow him. The Hooters. And I, like an independent person of right mind and right soul.
Don Hahn
Broncher's here.
Peter Rosenberg
Actually, I told you that I met the owner of the Lightning at the game because I had ran into him at the NHL store one time. At the NHL store one time. And I met him at the game. And he was the owner. He was the producer for two hours.
Don Hahn
Tell the branch to come in here. He's scared you're going to, like, yell at him.
Peter Rosenberg
Look, because I. Now I'm not. Now I've lost confidence that he was there.
Anthony
Oh, he was not there.
Peter Rosenberg
So. So it might not, because he.
Anthony
He looked at me like I had ten heads.
Peter Rosenberg
And when.
Don Hahn
And I.
Peter Rosenberg
When I thought that, I put my hand up like, no, I don't need him to come in and say, no, I wasn't.
Don Hahn
Sorry. Sorry I missed that happening between you guys. So maybe it was Gunling or someone.
Peter Rosenberg
It might have been Gunling.
Don Hahn
Okay.
Peter Rosenberg
All right. Yeah, probably was Gunling.
Don Hahn
Now here. Now here's where I. Here's where I take issue.
Caller/Listener
But.
Peter Rosenberg
But I met Oren Coolis, who's the producer of Two and a Half Men. I got to hang out with his nep. You met. You know, you met Lindsey who served you the wings at Hooters. That must have been a hell of a conversation. So how long you've been the Hooter at the Hooters of Tampa, Lindsay? Oh, no, since I got out of high school.
Anthony
That's great.
Peter Rosenberg
That's fun.
Don Hahn
And she's 60 now. Now, here's the thing. You're going. I know the route you're going, and I've seen it before.
Peter Rosenberg
The.
Don Hahn
Everyone needs to go be around Michael.
Caller/Listener
Yes.
Don Hahn
Okay.
Peter Rosenberg
That's cool, man.
Don Hahn
However, in this case, I'm going to push back.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, come on.
Don Hahn
There's a chance, Don.
Peter Rosenberg
It's good to go in a Hooter,
Don Hahn
but hear me out. If the Hooters is, like, close and easy, I'd rather probably chill at the Hooters and eat wings and watch whatever's on the TVs than be committed to a hockey game for a few hours. I mean.
Peter Rosenberg
No, but that's not about. No, that's. I'm not good company.
Don Hahn
That's not bad.
Anthony
No, I don't think that's supposed to be mean.
Peter Rosenberg
No, no, no, no.
Anthony
I'd go hurling the phone, trying to
Peter Rosenberg
book the next show.
Don Hahn
Right.
Anthony
But they're not going.
Peter Rosenberg
I don't want to go to a
Anthony
hockey game with Don.
Don Hahn
Right.
Anthony
The text, the thought for Peter stops at, I don't want to go to a hockey game.
Don Hahn
Yeah. Like, are the Pats playing?
Anthony
Not done.
Don Hahn
Oh, all right.
Anthony
You're a delight to be with all the time.
Don Hahn
Is.
Anthony
Is.
Don Hahn
Is Connor McDavid playing? Like, am I getting to see the best player in the world?
Anthony
He wasn't even a thought at that point. No, he was a thought.
Don Hahn
He was barely a thought in his mother's.
Peter Rosenberg
No, but listen, the Lightning were good at the time. I was able to get credentials. I went down into the room after the game. That's where I met Oren Coolis.
Anthony
Little Ruslan.
Peter Rosenberg
You would have met Oren Koulis. Maybe you don't care, but who'd you meet at Hooters?
Don Hahn
But why is about who you meet at just about a good time, sitting with your friends, gentleman having a drink.
Caller/Listener
Look at the motor.
Peter Rosenberg
Look at the four asses that you sat with for six hours at Radio Row. Now you're going to go sit, eat overrated wings.
Don Hahn
No, they're. They're very good wings. Let's stop it.
Peter Rosenberg
You don't enjoy my company, that's fine. I could take or leave yours.
Anthony
Was this. This had to be the 091. Yes.
Peter Rosenberg
Yes.
Don Hahn
This is an insane. You have a lot.
Peter Rosenberg
It's not an insane take.
Don Hahn
No, you have a lot of insane takes.
Peter Rosenberg
I'm going to tell you. I got talked out. I go to whatever sporting event is happening, whatever Super Bowl. I'm Going to be at. When we were in Indianapolis for the Giants Super Bowl, I tried to go to the Pacer game. Nobody wanted to go with me. And I still to this day regret caving. Otherwise, I could have went to Market Square arena and watched an NBA game like a gentleman, by the way. But it turned out better because we ended up going to a restaurant where the Nets were at. We ended up hanging out with some Nets and Ian Eagle, and it was fun.
Don Hahn
Anthony.
Anthony
Hi, Peter.
Don Hahn
If you were in the exact situation Don just described.
Anthony
Correct.
Don Hahn
Except instead of a hockey game.
Anthony
Yeah.
Don Hahn
It was going to a random, completely random Pacer game.
Anthony
Hooters.
Don Hahn
You're going to Hooters, right?
Anthony
I'd go to St. Elmo's and get the lovely.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, you get the. I love how the shrimp sauce, like, you just. Just walk into St. Elmo's and get anything.
Don Hahn
No, but just give me. Just.
Anthony
Just put the. Give me the shrimp sauce in my hands.
Don Hahn
Open up your mouth and just take it right in.
Anthony
All right.
Caller/Listener
But
Don Hahn
I'll tell you what. If Jacob liked me enough because Anthony said something, I could see that getting cut. Otherwise, it was on the cutting.
Anthony
Oh, Vanilla Cavalier was on that team.
Don Hahn
But you see what I'm saying? Going to a game. And also important part. Don's leaving out. Don got a credential. Would everyone else have gotten a credential?
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, because I was working with the NHL at the time. I would have gotten in. Okay.
Don Hahn
I just think going to a game feels like a bit of a commitment. Where did you watch the game from?
Peter Rosenberg
I just sat in the stands.
Don Hahn
In regular seats?
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Don Hahn
Not in a suite or anything?
Peter Rosenberg
No. We did that in Dallas. I hooked everybody up with suites.
Don Hahn
Now we're having a conversation, and they all. They.
Peter Rosenberg
They all bitch on go, and all of a sudden, Peter King's in the suite with us, and Michael was in dreamland.
Don Hahn
Well, hold on. Let me just say. I tell you right now, Peter King. I'm not. No movement. Free wings and beer movement.
Peter Rosenberg
I just. Anthony, you would have came to the
Don Hahn
lighting, but he wouldn't have gone. If it was basketball.
Anthony
No, I wouldn't have gone. I would go to pretty much any. Don goes, anthony, let's go to hockey. I'm like, all right, sounds good.
Don Hahn
That's right.
Anthony
When I was in Fordham, I went to a UMass game.
Peter Rosenberg
I just.
Anthony
When I was.
Peter Rosenberg
When we were covering a basketball game, I like going. When I. When I was in Anaheim, when the Ducks took on the Senators in the Stanley cup final, me and E.J. radek, the great E.J. radek. We went to an Angels Mariners game. Like, I like going to stuff like that. You know, wacky. Me, I'm a sports fan.
Anthony
Baseball would be interesting.
Peter Rosenberg
But Hooters, There's a Hooters everywhere. And in 2009, there was probably one right across the street from your apartment.
Don Hahn
Well, but now, here's another thing. Let me.
Peter Rosenberg
Let me know these people, you know, they went because, oh, I gotta go hang my.
Don Hahn
That's not. That's not Hurley's MO. Hurley wouldn't go just to be with Michael. Now, in retrospect, I now understand Hurley's situation. We're going back 16, 17 years. Hurley had little kids at home, at least one little kid. So you're just enjoying getting to be off on your own. I could see just wanting to go sit in a Hooters like a gentleman and have a beer and some wings. Why are you taking it as a personal frontier?
Peter Rosenberg
I'm taking it as a personal.
Don Hahn
He's out of his mind.
Peter Rosenberg
If Michael decided to.
Don Hahn
Ladies and gentlemen, he's out of his mind.
Peter Rosenberg
Michael K. Decided, you know what? I'm going to go to the Lightning game because Tito Martinez is going. I want to swing by and say hello. They all would have followed him like the Pied Piper into the Amelie arena. And I would have been like, you know what? I feel like going to Hooters because I wanted to see how Lindsey's doing since the last Super Bowl. And I would be sitting there by myself and everybody would be enjoying Vinnie Le Cavalier and Oren Coolis in Tampa.
Anthony
Young Stamkos was on that team, too.
Don Hahn
See, I'm telling you, Young Stamp coach.
Peter Rosenberg
All right, I hate all of you.
Don Hahn
Thanks for listening to the Don Hahn and Rosenberg podcast. I didn't listen to anything you just said. Catch the show on demand whenever you want. Just subscribe to us wherever you get your podcasts.

Just like the New Jersey Devils bring intensity on the ice, Viking pest control brings that same level of protection to your home. And I know this because I use Viking at my own place. The season may be over, but pests are always in play. So it's time to lock in your off season defense. As the pest control provider and proud partner of the devils, Viking delivers 45 years of trusted experience to keep ants, cockroaches, stinging insects, rodents, mosquitoes and more out of your zone. Their local team builds a personalized plan that actually works. You can tell them, listen, I'm having an ant problem. I have a mosquito problem. I'm having a rodent problem. They're right on it. And when you bundle pest control with mosquito services, you score big. Savings one call, one company. Total peace of mind. Visit vikingpest.com protecting your home inside and out. Brian Hoek tweeted that Jazz Chisholm walked back to the dugout in the ninth inning limping. I did not see Anthony, whether he came out to play or what the situation is in the top of the 10th. We won't know. He's not in the field. I don't know when he's due up. Grisham's up now. I think he had made. Yeah, he's not due up this inning, obviously, because I think he got injured earlier, so we'll have to wait and see if he's out of the game. But he did limp back to the dugout in the ninth inning. Yankees have runners at the corners with one out, the top of the 10th inning, and a scoreless tie in Chicago with the White Sox. And Grisham just laced a single. So the Yankees have broken the tie here in the top of the 10th inning. We'll talk Yankees once that game is over. Let's get back to the busy phones and let's talk to Peanut in Palm Bay. You're on ESPN New York. What's up, Peanut?
Caller/Listener
Hey, what's up, DL? What's up, pr? I. Originally want to talk baseball, but I'm looking at PR and so, Peter, you would rather eat hoodoos wings than hang out with Don't.
Peter Rosenberg
That's what he was saying. I think they're overrated. They're different. I get it. Some people like it. But, Peter, what Peanut saying is, you rather eat Hooters wings than hang out with Don.
Don Hahn
No, no, it's not what I'm saying. And he's wrong. Peanut is an idiot. No offense.
Caller/Listener
Come on, dude. I'm only going on what you said.
Don Hahn
No, Peanut, listen to me. It's not about the Hooters wings only. It's about. I'm with a bunch of my friends. One of my friends is like, hey, I want to go to a pro sporting event tonight that involves, like, you're locking in to sitting in little uncomfortable seats for two and a half hours to watch a game that I have no rooting interest.
Caller/Listener
What's different from Hooters? What's different from Hooters? When you're talking about that?
Don Hahn
I don't know.
Caller/Listener
When you sitting in a small seat eating crap. Chicken wings. What?
Don Hahn
Yeah, with a waitress. That. With a. With a. A waitress who's coming by and with A menu and bringing you whatever you want. You're not wandering through the. What arena were you at? Amway Center. What was.
Peter Rosenberg
No, it was Amelie arena at the time. What is it, the St. Pete? I don't even. They keep changing the name of the arena. That's not the same as.
Caller/Listener
You're leaving. You're leaving the Hooters to join John to join Don on whatever event. You already ate wings and had beer. You're leaving the Hooters to go and have fun.
Peter Rosenberg
No, no, no. This was.
Caller/Listener
No.
Don Hahn
It was either or. We were.
Peter Rosenberg
No. Just. Just to give you the context of the situation, we are at Radio Row in Tampa, which is at the Convention center, which is close to the arena and the Hooters. What are we going to do tonight, guys? What do you want to do? I said, I'm going to the Tampa Bay Lightning game. And Michael's like, I'm thinking of just going to Hooters and get something to eat and watch some games. And everybody went with Michael. But the thing is, Peter, it wasn't the game.
Caller/Listener
You can only watch the game once. You can go to a Hooters whenever.
Don Hahn
What do you mean? Hold on. Why can I, once in a lifetime, to go to a random hockey game, go to Hooters? They're both the same, by the way.
Caller/Listener
Hooters, not routine.
Don Hahn
You want to know the truth? I have 1000%, as God is my witness, been to more hockey games than I've been to Hooters. I've been to Hooters maybe five times in my life. I've been to 50 hockey games.
Peter Rosenberg
But it's just like, when in Rome, man. Like our. We're in Tampa, the Lightning are in town. Let's go check out a game.
Don Hahn
It's not exactly have a couple of beers. Hold on. It is at that time. I can't speak for now. A couple Stanley Cups later, I wouldn't have viewed that as, like, I'm in Montreal, I got to catch a Habs game. I don't see it the same way.
Peter Rosenberg
No, but whenever I'm in a city, it's just me. But that's you that I want to see who's in.
Don Hahn
Anthony, that's not a when in Rome thing. Maybe now you could make the case. But back then, was it a when in Rome thing to go to a Lightning game?
Anthony
Well, okay, I'm not going to. I'm not going to pretend that, like, it was. Can't miss. But Lecablier, San Luis, they were on that team, so it was A for a person that likes hockey, it was something to do. Whereas Don.
Don Hahn
But not when in Rome.
Anthony
I wouldn't say when in Roman. If I'm not mistaken. I'm doing the math on it. Don, did you remember who they played?
Peter Rosenberg
The Canadians.
Anthony
Oh, they were playing the Canadians. Oh. So it was the 53 win on the 27th. That's not a bad game.
Don Hahn
Not a bad game.
Anthony
Not a bad game.
Don Hahn
Yeah, but how about who was the waitress at Hooters? That's the question.
Peter Rosenberg
I am just telling you. I'm taking it personally.
Don Hahn
I'm telling you out of your gourd. I'm right. I'm a. I've never been more confident.
Peter Rosenberg
Connor in Brooklyn. You're on ESPN New York. Hi, Connor.
Caller/Listener
Hey, guys. How's it going? First time caller. Love you guys. I hate to sit here and defend my former head coach Robert Sala, but fireman Ed is a fool. He. He gave up on the team in 2012. He's a Dolphins fan to begin with. He moved here from Florida. He's not even really a Jet fan. Should have given him the Charlie Ozone.
Don Hahn
I love this.
Peter Rosenberg
He should know, but I am list. 2012 was when I got in the conference.
Caller/Listener
Charlie Oakley. Oh, my God. He's horrendous. There's no reason. He just wants to stay relevant. I know so many more people, Jake Asmon included, who are better off, better Jet fans who should be lifted up by Woody Johnson and the organization than that fool.
Peter Rosenberg
I definitely like Mr. Super Joe Jet Fan. I don't get that anymore. He did. He did. He just. He was incognito and he didn't. Because he was getting ripped by some fans and he didn't want to go anymore. And then when he went, he wasn't doing the chant. Then he didn't chant came back. Whatever. I can't f. I can't follow the drama.
Don Hahn
Thanks for listening to the Don Hahn and Rosenberg podcast. I don't want to know how the
Peter Rosenberg
sausage is made, man.
Anthony
I just want to know. It's good.
