Listen live weekday afternoon starting at 3 on 8 80, ESPN, the ESPN New York app, and your smart speakers.
Ty Butler
One hour down, three more to play with on this freaky Friday toe sucking. In the first hour, it got freaky.
Anthony Rosenberg
You started talking about the ass and butt show at the top. That was Michael K. Michael K. Turn the freaky down.
Ty Butler
Who got mad at me because, I mean, I didn't know. But if you mess around with the call screener, it affects what he's seeing on his screen. And so he brought me on to rip me, but I had to.
Anthony Rosenberg
Why did he want to rip you?
Ty Butler
Well, because I was the person messing around with the screen. I wanted to pull up the YouTube page so we can get the comments cooking for the show. And I didn't know that that was what he was seeing. And so like a coward, I blamed Anthony Pusick for being ignorant.
Unknown Guest
It was very well done by you.
Ty Butler
And I will say this, Pusick, YouTube comments, ripping you to shreds. Yeah, of course, now can't spell your name correctly.
Don Hahn
No.
Unknown Guest
So I'm not really offended by it,
Ty Butler
but ripping you to shreds. But that was. That was fun. Shout out to Michael K. Was on his way to the stadium to call Yankees and the Reds.
Anthony Rosenberg
Cam Schlitler on the mound tonight.
Ty Butler
Say that five times fast.
Anthony Rosenberg
Cam Schlitler. Cam Schlitler. Cam Schlitler. Cam Schlitler.
Ty Butler
There you go.
Anthony Rosenberg
Pretty good.
Ty Butler
Want to get into this conversation? So the king of New York and I think discussing Jalen Brunson status among the New York greats, once we get to the Aaron Judge portion of the conversation actually becomes a different conversation. Is he a better player than Judge? No, absolutely not. Judge one of the greatest right hand hitters of all time. We know three time league mvp and he's Aaron Judge. He's the face of baseball. Like that regular season resume, the accolades all work in his favor. But if we are to simply ask right now who the king of New York is, I think Jalen Brunson inarguably is the guy. And yes, the championship has to be the biggest reason being the key guy on, you know, the New York Knicks, right. Ending the 53 year drought has to be the top bullet point. But also, and I'm saying this as a Yankee fan, so there's no glee in this admission. The one thing if you're a Knick fan, you never have to worry about is when the playoffs start. If Brunson is going to deliver, doesn't mean he's not going to have bad games, right? We saw the first three games of the finals. 82 points on 81 shots, but he
Anthony Rosenberg
still had moments in each of those games where he was the best player for them.
Ty Butler
You look at his overall playoff resume and what it says is this dude is not just a playoff riser, but one of the greatest we've ever seen in that category. Um, and unfortunately that's just not the case for Judge, who yes, hit.500 in the postseason last year, but all that did was bring his postseason batting average to.236. And so here's the thing, man. One is a playoff riser. One has had the other has had one great playoff run. And because of that and the championship, I have to, even as a Yankee fan, say the king of New York is Jalen Brunson.
Anthony Rosenberg
Without question. And again, I am a diehard Yankee fan. And I am a diehard Knick fan. It's not even close. And by the way, if we're saying who's a better player.
Caller Dave
Yeah.
Anthony Rosenberg
In the regular season, it's Judge. Who's the better player overall? It's Jalen Brunson. And I understand. Ollie, how could you say that? Judge a three time mvp? Because this is the classic Alex Rodriguez versus Derek Jeter debate all over again. If you're a Yankee fan, you're taking Jeter over a Rod. Because the sum of what made Derek Jeter great, made him an all time great Yankee and obviously one of the great clutch performers and all that is what Brunson has. It is to me a very similar conversation to A Rod was a better, just pure baseball player. But you're taking Derek Jeter as far as who the top guy is, who's the face of the franchise, who's the most beloved player Brunson has surpassed. Judge until Judge. Hopefully this October goes out there, has a monster playoff run that's longer than just two rounds because last year he was great. But they still only got, you know, won one playoff around the wild card round, then lost in the divisional round. The Toronto A Judge has to have a 2009 Alex Rodriguez like playoff run to really solidify himself. Because Brunson, even without the title, was already one of the best playoff performers ever. And only like it only solidified his standing among all time New York athletes by being the Finals MVP, scoring 45 points in a closeout game on the road. All the moments, the shots in game one and game two, the big shots in game four. He is synonymous with clutch, with winning. I mean, I saw Ian o' Connor make the comp. Jalen Brunson's a hybrid of Derek Jeter the first three quarters and Mariano Rivera in the fourth. That's the type of company we're talking about with Brunson and with Judge, as great as he is in the regular season, he does not have the playoff success that Brunson has.
Ty Butler
If we are to paint this scenario, final two minutes of a game and everyone in the NBA is a free agent, who are you picking ahead of Jalen Brunson? I guess like maybe Jokic because of the totality of his offensive. Jokic is one of the best offensive players we've ever seen. But Brunson is like right there, right, like because of all the clutch stuff. And he, he is simply not going to make a bad decision, bring the double team. He knows how to find his teammates and it doesn't mean that he comes without some warts. Like we did see him get picked on on defense the last couple of years against the Pacers. But he is able to overcome that because of just how magnificent he is late in games. And if we did the same exercise in baseball, one guy you want coming up and a big playoff moment, like how many before we get to Jeff? And again, like, this is not me saying he's an awful player or coming across as a Yankee fan who's unappreciative, he's one of the best of all time. But three times in his career, in the playoffs, he's hit 188 or less. And so to your point, all it's going to take really is one dominant playoff run because it's the only. Yeah, but on his resume, all of the regular season stuff, no one can touch that. As far as like him being this all time great when it gets to October, we need to maybe not see him hit.500 again, but see a similar version to what he is during a regular season and then end with the Yankees winning a championship.
Anthony Rosenberg
What playoff moments does Aaron Judge have? Michael Cage will say, well, the Emmanuel class A home run, great moment they didn't win that game. They lost that game. You could point to the home run last year in the, in the game that they were facing elimination and. But it's still, it's just, it's a divisional round series. What World Series moments did Aaron Judge have? He was. Dropped the ball like he was great in that game. 5. I was at that game that night. But people only remember the drop. They don't remember he had a home run earlier in the game. He had a double. He had like, he had, I think three or four hits that night. We don't remember it because of the drop. I could name you, like 10 moments Brunson has had in big playoff games for the Knicks, starting in his first year with the Knicks. So again, to me, Jalen Brunson is a top five player in the NBA. You could say Judge is the best hitter in baseball. He's clearly a top three, top two player in the sport. I'm taking Jalen Brunson for what he does over what Aaron Judge does for the Yankees. And I don't care if Brunson doesn't have any regular season MVPs. This town is about winning championships. When you're a Yankee especially, it's about winning championships. It's why you Yankee fans are taking Derek Jeter over Alex Rodriguez, even though a Rod had better stats and ultimately is considered the better baseball player. It's the same conversation. I think there's just some people, like, in denial. They don't want to like, like dismiss Judge. I don't think you're, you're knocking Judge if you're honest about just how good Jalen Brunson is, how special he is in winning time, which is what we judge these guys on more than anything else.
Ty Butler
No pun intended. 800-919-3776. We go to Dave in Westchester. What's up, Dave?
Caller Dave
Sorry about that. Now, my original question. I'm going to jump to something else now, but my original was, do you think has. I'm jumping to a different situation. Do you think that in Steinbrenner's mind, in Cashman's mind, you're not going to say anything, obviously, but with all the hoopla that's going on and the phrase and this and that, the way the Knicks came back, that there's a little more pressure on them to, to win a championship? That was my first. That was my original question. Now I go on to the other thing with the, with the Judge in the, in the situation with the, with Brunson not even Close. Not even close. Just like I told you, Ty. It wouldn't even go six games. I told you this. Day seven of you don't remember, but day seven of the OKC and the Spurs. I said the spurs won't even go six. It's over. It's done. You don't remember. It's okay. No problem. I'm telling you, Jalen Brunson, one billion times better than Aaron Judge. Aaron Judge hit.500. He's so bad in 237. Jalen Brunson does one thing, she's clutch. And I'm so tired of everybody saying that this guy's better than Jeter. Jeter's not better because he has five championships. Jeter is better because he's better. That's it. Simply, every throw home, he made the plate, the guy was out. Every time he got up a clutch situation, he got a hit. Anything he did, he indirectly or directly influenced a win of the game. He wasn't looking at balls going down the middle, getting called out for strike three. He's a better baseball player than Aaron, than a Rod. It's simple as that.
Ty Butler
Yeah. So, Dave, listen, I appreciate the call. I am. You are going to find no bigger Derek Jeter fan than yours truly. You might be as big of a fan. No bigger fan. We. We do have to at some point recognize he was on that 04 team that blew a three nothing lead to the Red Sox. So when you say he comes up to the plate and every single time he delivers, except for in Games 5, 6 and 7 of the American League Championship Series in 2004. I don't want to make this into a Jeter versus Judge conversation or we're ripping on Judge. I simply want to keep it in the context of there's this, like, heavyweight belt. There's a crown in New York right now who is the face of the city. And in my estimation, and it sounds like in yours, Jake, it is unequivocally Jalen Brunson, without a doubt, because of. And it's years and years and years of building up to this point. And you talk about the clutch moments, like one of the first ones that come up to me, come up in my mind is the shot he hit over Arzer Thompson in the first round of the playoffs last year to knock off the Pistons. Think about it. If he misses that shot, we're going to a Game 7 at the Garden against the young and hungry Pistons teams. Now, maybe the Knicks still win it anyway, but Clutches nails not to allow that series to get to that point and there are a bunch of them. The comeback against the Cavs, the Spur. Like, there are so many moments throughout his tenure where once he has the ball in his hands, we know he's going to find a way to win.
Anthony Rosenberg
There's just too many examples of him playing at his very best in big moments. And Judge has had some playoff moments, but it's not enough. And Brunson, I think you could argue, is a top five player in the NBA right now. Judge is top two. You could argue he's one. I get it. I'm okay.
Ty Butler
Yeah, let's say he's one.
Anthony Rosenberg
Yeah, let's say he'S one. Even if he's one, you can't tell me as a Yankee fan, you, you're not disappointed by the entire body of work of Aaron Judge in the postseason. Whereas Jalen Brunson, if he's a top five player in the NBA in the regular season and then, oh yeah, in the playoffs, he becomes arguably the best when it matters the Most. He's Finals MVP, his Conference Finals MVP, scoring 45 points in a road closeout. Like, that's the guy you're taking. That's the King of New York. That's the guy who is to me a better overall player than Judge. Just like Derek Jeter is a better overall player than Alex Rodriguez. Even though a rod's got better stats, the eyes tell me if you watch all the games, the moments when you needed to be at your best, Jeter was better than a Rod. I'm taking Jeter. That's how I'm keeping score now.
Ty Butler
I think Judge is a better overall player. Like the defense stuff still matters. He's a Gold Glove caliber right fielder and the totality of his game. There's a reason why as we're watching him hit, you know, 62 home runs, every baseball analyst is talking about he's one of the greatest right hand hitters of all time, which he is. So I am not denying that he is. To me, if we're doing the mano a mano thing, the better overall player, what I'm talking about is the face of the city, man, Tim, the guy who's wearing the crown. And if you want to say it's prisoner of the moment, fine. The Knicks just won a championship. What I'm telling you is this dude delivers in money, time. And part of it too, Jake, is you look at the history preceding Brunson's arrival in the they went to the finals in 1999. They spent the next 23 years before Brunson gets here, they won a grand total of three playoff series. He comes, they immediately become playoff contenders, they graduate into contention and then they become NBA champions. That has to mean something. That and people say, well it's, it's unfair to judge because one of five. Like it's a lot easier to be impactful if you are an NBA superstar versus one guy batting three times a game. And I hear that the problem is once again one of the greatest right handed hitters of all times, hitting.234 in the playoffs and dropped a fly ball in Game 5 of the World Series in 2024. And also that's the issue. If his postseason resume were simply he's the same guy in October as he is in the months during the regular season. The team just isn't good enough. That's one thing when you have consistently underwhelmed in October, like that becomes what tilts the scale in favor of Brunson.
Anthony Rosenberg
It's tough to be impactful as a baseball player compared to the NBA star because you're right, you only get four plate appearances a night, let's say. But Jeter did it. And again Brunson's comp to me is Jeter. He's not Jeter yet. Jeter's five time champion, but played his whole career and New York. Brunson's played four years with the Knicks. But that's, that's the conversation. Judge is more like a rod and eventually a rod won a championship. And you can't say he wasn't clutch because they don't win an 09 without him. And this 17 year drought for the Yankees is going on 26 years right now without him. So I'm not trying to knock Alex Rodriguez, but you're taking Derek Jeter over him for everything we've outlined in this segment. That's the thing with Brunson. Brunson, the sum of him as a player is greater than the individual of let's say like what Judge means to the Yankees. Like Brunson's worth more to the Knicks because of that clutch ability. So that to me is really the conversation. Like Judge is not on like the Immortal athletes of New York list. Like Derek Jeter is like even Eli Manning is a two time champion is, you know, like I like that's the conversation Brunson is now a part of because he delivered this title and was the catalyst behind it. He was incredible. He was the Finals mvp. They don't win without his heroics in the fourth quarter of These games, like that's kind of the, the next level Brunson is on. I think he's leapfrogged over Judge in that because Judge hasn't won yet.
Ty Butler
Joe so one of the reasons why San Antonio lost that series was because the they knew deep down we knew it, The Knicks knew it, everyone in the arenas knew it deep down the moment it is clutch time, we are drawing dead.
Caller Sam
Why?
Ty Butler
Because they have Jalen Brunson and we don't like that. That's, it's similar to, and I'm not comparing this team to that team, but it's similar to how we watch NFL teams against the Chiefs for three and a half quarters look great, or the
Anthony Rosenberg
Patriots with Brady in any clutch situation.
Ty Butler
And then all of a sudden it's like they start turning the ball over, they're committing penalties. Like that's not just by coincidence. It's because they understand with that dude on the opposing sidelines, if he gets the ball back, we are cooked. And that's what happened to the spurs in the Finals. Like how you go from the best shooting performance in the first half of an NBA Finals to they made eight field goals in the second half of game four. That's not by accident. Palms got sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy. Like that's what happened bombing on his sweat. And so the fear factor when it comes to Brunson, I think helps him in his argument. Whereas like what team or what opposing player feels that way in a playoff game against the Yankees with Judge?
Anthony Rosenberg
That's Mariano Rivera, what you just described. Right? That's why I think the comp of like Brunson's Jeter for the first three quarters and then Rivera in the fourth quarter by Ian o' Connor is so spot on because teams knew we better score against the Yankees by the seventh inning because we know Mo is going to be able to close out the eighth and ninth hit. Like more people have been on the moon than have scored against Mariano Rivera in the postseason. That's Brunson. But the NBA equivalent, where, let's be honest, as great as Mo is, and he is the greatest to ever do what he did at the major league level, the superstar in basketball is more impactful to the team directly winning than the all time great closer. So it's like Brunson is just what he means to the Knicks. It's very tough to quantify unless you're watching all these games. Do you just see the impact, is the impact as you bring up the team's choking across the court knowing man, this guy is going to get it done. And we might not be able to handle that.
Ty Butler
Nobody wanted the Rock. Watch the end of those games. You could see it in their faces. They did not want the ball. Wimby didn't want it. Vesel didn't want it. Castle didn't want it. The only guy who really wanted it was the one who you didn't want shooting. And that was the Aaron Fox.
Anthony Rosenberg
Oh, I wanted, yes.
Ty Butler
It's like the Bill Simmons thing. Like, what's the other team hoping you do? It's. Yeah, put it in the hands of de' Aaron Fox.
Anthony Rosenberg
Did you see yesterday, by the way, Mikhail Bridges was wearing a Pacombe Dodier number four jersey? And I saw people online being like, is he wearing a Knicks de' Aaron Fox customized jersey?
Ty Butler
I did see that. But they did not want it because they were shook. They were nervous. And listen, I'll sit here and admit I picked the spurs to win in seven games. I look foolish. It's cool. But the one thing that. And this is going to be the case going forward, you have to have people on your squad not scared of that man. And he puts the fear of God in, folks. 800-919-3776. Sam's calling in from Bayonne. He wants to talk about Judge and Brunson. What's up, Sam?
Caller Sam
And good afternoon, gentlemen. Two of my favorite guys together. Then you know what the show is showing him. And this is actually a really good conversation that I wanted to get in on real quick. Ty, have you been able to watch Rock Star yet? You could answer that later, but I'm calling to make ultimately a couple of points with the whole. I think it's the question should be separated because that's resume does not automatically mean best player. And I think that's where this conversation ultimately has gone to over the last 20 years. Ultimately. There's the gentleman that just called about Jeter being a better player. There's no way that he was a better physical baseball player than a rod was. And I think the other factor that's never brought into the equation is you're also a product of the, of the environment that you come into. Now. How many quarterback. All the players that are in the. Are professional athletes. They're all extremely talented. A big part of what they become is also the organization that they become a part of. If you go into a failing organization, you are going to fail. Obviously, you guys are at espn, the worldwide leader in sports. You can't get better than that. So if you're a rookie being drafted into an organization like that, it's totally different than the other guy. So I think that's also part of the kind of the conversation that never brought into always a play. Jake, I got some respect for you going to the next parade. I'll leave by saying if the Mets ever do make it, while if I'm not in a wheelchair, I'm going to go into that parade John Wick style.
Ty Butler
Thank you gentlemen for the time. Sam, at the parade, would you, would you suck on a random person's toes?
Caller Sam
Okay, no, it won't be random, as twisted as it may sound, but understandable if it's someone like Salma Hayek or Kate Beckinsale, I'll get online.
Caller Dave
But
Anthony Rosenberg
World Series parade, don't worry. Kate Beckinsale, noted Met fan yeah,
Ty Butler
I just think that and by the way, we're both Yankee fans, so it's not like it brings us a bunch of pleasure having to say and you're also a Knick fan. But it's sometimes the part of the why I hate these conversations sometimes is like when you're comparing A and if you say A is better than B, it means that you think B stinks. Like that's the LeBron Jordan thing. No, like Judge. Judge doesn't stink. It's just we happen to think Brunson, especially when it comes to crunch time, is better.
Anthony Rosenberg
It's, that's what it comes down to. And again, I want to see this team go, go out there, get to the playoffs and judge have a 2009 like a rod, you know, run. Because as great as he is, you hate that the one thing people are going to use against him is, oh, he never won a championship. And Aaron Judge is a better baseball player than Donnie Baseball, Don Mattingly. And when we talk about all time great Yankees that ever won, it's Donnie Baseball. And I remember last year when Judge won his third MVP award. Don Mattingly announced it on the MLB Network that he won. And I was thinking, man, like this is kind of a little bit eerie because Judge is now, he's still in his prime, but he's hurt this year. He's 34, he's going to be 35 next year. You don't know how many great Aaron Judge seasons you have left with a player of his size. He's got a breakthrough right now the Yankees are a good enough team to get to the World Series. They're playing well without Judge, without free, without stand right now they need to be all in to make sure that they do everything in their power to give themselves a chance to get this guy a chance to at least deliver on the big stage and help this team win a championship for the first time in his career.
Ty Butler
Johnson, Freehold. What's up, John?
Caller John
What's going on, boys? Great topic, great show.
Ty Butler
Thank you.
Caller John
But I'm calling it as an outsider here. I just want to express for outsiders, anyone with common sense, how ridiculous the topic is. I would listen to the topic forever. You guys are doing great, but it's not close. Anybody with a quarter of a brain takes Jalen Brunson over Aaron Judge simply for what he's done on the stage in New York. All of us know how difficult it is. All of us know the scrutiny you're under. It's crazy. You guys are like, I feel like you're trying to jump through hoops to even defend Judge to a certain degree. No, he's the greatest baseball player and the whatever guys, there's no need to defend. Jalen is duties the ultimate champion. Aaron Judge, as great as he is, does nothing when it matters. And yeah, he's an awesome player, but I don't know why we have to defend it. You guys don't have to. You can move on to the next topic is Jalen Brunson. All day, guys. Love you. Great show.
Ty Butler
Appreciate it. And the reason why I'm trying to drop him, the reason why we have to paint it that way is because I don't want to come across as if I am dismantling the man's legacy, as if he's not an all time great. Like, you do have to, you do have to acknowledge, yeah, man, like during a regular season, it's pretty awesome.
Anthony Rosenberg
And the regular season does matter. I hate Yankee fans who say, oh, who cares? It's only what you do in the playoffs. No, I think there's a happy medium. It's, yes, the regular season matters, but when you're a Yankee and you wear that uniform and the goal is championship or bust every year and you're compared to, to Derek Jeter and Lou Gehrig and all the other great Yankees And Yankee captains, DiMaggio, that one, like, sorry, you have to perform in the playoffs. And yes, he hit.500 in the first two rounds of the playoffs last year, but he's a career.236 playoff hitter. And some of his great playoff moments that you could think of are very tough to think of. Like, let's be honest, you're going to tell me the class A home run in the ALCS they lost that game. It was Game three. They ended up winning the series. Great. But that moment wasn't the moment. It wasn't Jalen Brunson scoring 45 in a closeout game. Like it's few and far between. It is even the great game he had in Game five. We don't remember that. We remember he dropped the ball in center field.
Ty Butler
What we remember is that the home run he hit was so big because he had been struggling up until that point in the series.
Anthony Rosenberg
And so who carried them in 2024? Stanton, who was the ALCS MVP. And Soto was incredible that in that playoff run had one of the greatest at bats you will ever see.
Ty Butler
That's the Brunson moment, right? Soto at bat.
Anthony Rosenberg
Soto's at bat was the Bruno Jalen Brunson moment that he has given Nick fans. Not just in these, these playoffs, but the last several. There's so many games you could point to where he was incredible. I saw a highlight montage last week, eight minutes of Jalen Brunson's most clutch playoff moments. Eight minutes worth of him hitting incredible shots over the last four years. He's been a Knick. Not just this year.

Would it have been better if the parade was on his actual birthday?
Ty Butler
No.

Do you think he likes having just the day off for his actual birthday and yesterday?
Ty Butler
Because he gets to enjoy it with family. Family, you know, that's still a thing.

Oh, how was that?
Anthony Rosenberg
Great guy. Great kid. Allen and Alan's wife did a great job parenting him.
Ty Butler
Now, if he was not a great kid, I would imagine if I asked you how he, you know, how was that? You still would have said the same thing.
Anthony Rosenberg
I would have said, great kid. His parents did a great job parenting.
Ty Butler
All right, so listen, I feel comfortable doing this because I'm friends with the guy. Like, we text. We, you know, we've hung out.

Have you broken bread before?

We have met his parents. Chilled at the crib. You know, Rosenberg and I, we've got a little history here. I gotta tell you how flummoxed I was when I tuned into the ELR show. Ebro, Laura and Rosenberg. A show I consume every single day because I love what they do. Shout out to them. And my man is wearing a Jalen Brunson King of New York shirt. Now, I understand his wife Natalie, grew up in Queens. Die Hard. Nick's father.
Caller Sam
Fan.
Ty Butler
I understand. Maya, his daughter. Beautiful young daughter. She is becoming a Nick fan. I get all that. But he's a Celtics fan. He is a Boston Celtics fan. Die Hard. Two years ago, by the way, they won a championship. So it's not like they've been so bad. He's entering the fan portal. They won a championship. Two years didn't just win a championship, Jake. It's one of the greatest seasons in NBA history. They went 80 and 21. And so now yesterday he's wearing a Jalen Brunson King of New York shirt. I don't understand it. I don't think there's an explanation for it. But what are your thoughts?
Anthony Rosenberg
I think you can't call yourself a die hard Celtic fan anymore. You could still maybe be a Celtic fan, but if you're truly a die hard fan of a Boston team, it's like the cardinal sin to wear anything supporting a New York team, is it not?
Ty Butler
Especially the sacrilegious.
Anthony Rosenberg
So like, it's the Islanders that won a championship. It's like, all right, you know, there's no real rivalry between the Bruins and the Islanders. It's fine. Knicks, Celtics, that's a thing. That's always been a thing.
Ty Butler
Oh, and here's a little bit of, a little bit of a ammunition. So I remember doing shows with him. This was what, two years ago? And in the 2024 playoffs, we all thought that we were getting Knicks, Celtics in the conference finals. Now the Pacers ended up beating the Knicks in the second round. So we never got that. But in the lead up to Knicks Celtics, conference finals, he was toying with the idea of dropping Boston to become a Knick fan.
Anthony Rosenberg
Can't be die hard if you're thinking about it. It's called die hard.
Ty Butler
But here's what drove me.
Anthony Rosenberg
You're willing to lick toes for your team to win a championship. That is what the type of die hardness we're talking about.
Ty Butler
Exactly. But here's what drove me nuts. So after toying with the idea of just dropping his, you know, Celtics, who he loves for the Knicks. The Knicks lose, the Celtics win the championship. He gets to go on social media and claim the Celtics championship as if it were his. So it's like the best of both worlds now. Two years, it's a can't lose, right? And now two years later, he's rocking a Jalen Brunson King of New York shirt. Anthony, what's going. This is your man's. This is your boy. It's my man's too. But you hang out with him every day. Listen, what's going on?
Unknown Guest
I've. I've tried to tell anybody that'll listen. Peter is a Washington Commanders fan. Everything else is up for grabs. And he'll argue with me a little Bit on it. But the more that these things happen, Jalen Brunson shirts. If the Celtics lost, I wouldn't feel bad because the Knicks are around. I don't know what's going on with hockey. I don't know what's going on with baseball. But Peter is a commander's fan that I will give him 100%. His basketball fandom is without a doubt waning, and he's certainly not the die hard he used to be of the Celtics.
Ty Butler
Oh, he was hanging out with Brunson and Hart at a Nick party a couple nights.
Unknown Guest
Yeah, Skyler Astin got him into that one.
Unknown Advertiser
So.
Ty Butler
So a Celtics fan is just able to do that. Be willy nilly with his fandom fraudulent.
Anthony Rosenberg
He could be a fan of the Celtics, but you can't be a die hard fan of the Celtics.
Ty Butler
So we are unanimous unanimously claiming this to be fraudulent behavior. Right?
Unknown Guest
I have no issue with it.
Ty Butler
Jake.
Anthony Rosenberg
Yes.
Unknown Advertiser
Yeah.
Ty Butler
All right, Jake, what do you got?
Anthony Rosenberg
I'm going to call out Elmo here.
Unknown Guest
Wow.
Anthony Rosenberg
Going. And I know the birthday man, Alan Hahn, will be on my side because him and Don argued about this on DHR when this story first came out. So Elmo, the iconic Sesame street character, caught flack online earlier this month when he published. Is it he? I guess we're gonna go with he from. All right. When Elmo said he hopes that both teams playing in the NBA finals have fun now, Sesame street, where's the base? New York City. Elmo should be a Knick fan. So I immediately thought, wow, Elmo, you're a fraud. Like, you're not gonna root for the Knicks, the hometown team. What it would mean for your neighborhood to see the Knicks win their first title. So Elmo, instead of just at least like, okay, I made the decision. I'm not gonna root for either team. You know what Elmo did? Apparently Elmo said the Jalen Brunson. Elmo had a sign for Jalen Brunson at the parade yesterday saying, forgive me, please, during the Knicks championship parade. And Jalen Brunson apparently said, they're all good because he's a good guy and didn't want to create a headline. But Jalen Brunson ended any feud the Knick fan rightfully should have with Elmo. But I. I'm not ending any feud. Brunson could be cool with him. I'm not. I'm calling Elmo a fraud. Elmo was a fraud for not rooting for the Knicks in the first place. But if you're going to not root for either team. You then can't claim the Knicks after they then won the championship. You can't try and jump on the the parade bandwagon here. Elmo is still a fraud in my book.
Ty Butler
This is Rosenberg territory. I'm with you. But at least Jalen forgave him. Like that's just who Jaylen is. But you're out. You're done. Is there anything Elmo can do going forward to win you back home?
Anthony Rosenberg
I think Elmo's got to retire as a sports fan. Really Just step down. You want both teams to have fun?
Ty Butler
Well, how about this, because that's not. Can I play devil's advocate? Both teams having fun can still end with the Knicks winning the championship.
Anthony Rosenberg
You think the spurs had fun?
Ty Butler
I mean, they had fun for the first three and a half quarters.
Anthony Rosenberg
Do you think their fans enjoyed watching them have a double digigit lead in all five games, coming up with one win?
Ty Butler
Well, for the first three and a half, it's perfect because spurs fans for the first three and a half quarters had a lot of fun. And then the Knick fans, for the final five minutes, they had their fun and then it won a championship.
Anthony Rosenberg
How did you feel for the first three games of the 2004 ALCS?
Ty Butler
Oh, man, I think 19, what was it? 19 to 8, game three.
Anthony Rosenberg
The Yankees won, even split the rest of the way. You still. You still feel like you got your money's worth from the 04 ALCS?
Ty Butler
Nah, man. But it started off fun. Yeah, started off great.
Anthony Rosenberg
Game five of the World Series started off great as well. Yankees up five nothing. Garrett Cole, perfect game, into the fifth inning. I was having a blast that night. Yeah, both teams have fun.
Ty Butler
I don't know. I think you're being a little too hard. He came to the parade, waited in long lines, and everything was up at 5 o' clock in the morning and didn't have the luxury of hitting up pizzerias and delis to get in to the parade yesterday.
Anthony Rosenberg
Elmo's a fraud. Brunson even entertaining this. Forgive me, please sign with Elmo on it. It's just Brunson being a good guy, but deep down he knows he's a fraud, too.
Ty Butler
Yeah, man, that's a tough. That's a tough one.
Unknown Guest
We got one more, boys. I don't know if you saw this, but Carmelo Anthony was, of course on one of the floats yesterday, and Alex Monaco interviewed him. And I thought there was something wrong with my television. I thought that there was something amiss. But no, if you take A look at the pictures of Carmelo Anthony. He's got a blue hat on. Half New York Yankee logo, half New York Metlo.
Anthony Rosenberg
I saw this.
Unknown Guest
I'm not gonna call Melo a fraud himself, but if there was a fraud store outside a fraud court, when Don Lagreca bangs his gavel and tells you that you're a fraud and you want to go pick up some memorabilia to commemorate the moment, one of the things that you could buy at that store would be that hat. A half Yankee, half met logo hat.
Ty Butler
So here is what people who are in favor of that type of behavior have been yet to explain to me. What is the rooting interest?
Anthony Rosenberg
Both teams to have fun, Elmo style?
Ty Butler
So you're rooting for both the Yankees and the Mets. Correct. Like, that is what that. That hat would. Would symbolize. You're rooting for both the Yankees and the Mets to. To both win.
Anthony Rosenberg
You're pro New York.
Ty Butler
So what were you rooting for in the 2000 World Series?
Anthony Rosenberg
Bingo. You can't root for both. You're not a real fan. If you root for both.
Ty Butler
And they're. And by the way, they're rival rivals, that could be one thing. If it's like, hey, I'm a Yankees and a Rockies fan, you're rooting for inner city rivals. Now, the Mets, they haven't held up their end of the bargain the last couple years. They've been such a disaster, and they're actually one of the biggest. We should have had them on a float at the parade yesterday because they're one of the biggest winners of this Knicks run. We haven't had to talk about how much of a disaster class they've been. But the Mets and the Yankees thing, like, I've had family members do that, too, where it's like, oh, it's just New York, baby.
Anthony Rosenberg
Whoever wins, hate it. You're not a real baseball fan if you have interest in rooting for both teams. You're a casual. You're someone who's like, oh, yeah, it's a big event. I'll put it on. Everyone's talking about the Yankees or the Mets. I'm fine with either. If you're a real baseball fan, you are either a Yankee fan or a Met fan. And that's why, like, I've always respected, like, politicians who actually are loyal to their teams. Like, I respected the fact that, you know, like, Chris Christie might have been the governor of New Jersey and the Giants are winning a Super bowl. But at least you knew he was a Cowboys fan. You know he's a Met fan. Like, people are actually loyal to their teams. And I'm just trying to pander. Like, if you're a fan, who's all right, we're for the Yankees and the Mets. You're just pandering to who? Who's your target audience there? Simps. You're a simp. That's what you are.
Ty Butler
I've had people do that in football as well with jets and Giants the worst.
Anthony Rosenberg
And that to me is not as extreme as Yankees Mets. Because there is a rivalry. They do play every year. The subway series is a thing. The jets and Giants only play once every four years. But still pick a team.
Ty Butler
You can't be a hardcore fan and have a second team.
Anthony Rosenberg
No, you can't.
Ty Butler
It just. It doesn't work that way. Especially when that second team is considered. And jets and Giants, are they rivals? Who knows? But play in the same city, you
Anthony Rosenberg
pick a team and that's your team. You don't get more than one team.
Ty Butler
Yeah, man. I love it. Three zero three FRAUDS three Frogs Rosenberg. I still love you, buddy. Rosenberg, by the way, is at Calandra's Bakery hosting the team USA watch party. They're up to nothing. So, Anthony, what happened because you were waving your hands to say it was nullified, you gave us bad information.
Unknown Guest
No, the referee was fraudulent. He called it offsides. They went to the big var. They did the whole AO box. And of course the clock had to run while this was going on. And as the clock was running, Michael
Anthony Rosenberg
figured out your host. By the way, no offsides.
Ty Butler
I love the k rant.
Don Hahn
Good goal.
Unknown Guest
So it's two Nils with I don't know. There's 12 minutes until we get to 90 and then however much time they want to decide is going to be on the clock after that.
Anthony Rosenberg
Yes.
Unknown Guest
And winner of this game at least advances to the knockout round and possibly the US with a tie, I think or a win from Paraguay could win the group by tonight.
Ty Butler
Yes, that is correct. According to your rundown. I wouldn't trust that you tried to destroy the segment by giving us bad information. Because he sees that there are people in the YouTube chat that don't. Don't care for us too much. What? There are people in the YouTube chat that don't care for us too much. How about this for a quote? They was just asking me how my balls felt. That was Jazz Chisholm on his teammates asking about the injury or you know, discomfort he suffered last night when he got hit. He apparently is in the lineup tonight.
Anthony Rosenberg
Jake, thank God. I mean what would we do without Jazz Chisholm in the Yankee lineup if he injured himself by not wearing a cup, taking elbow off the nuts?
Ty Butler
He says he's just not comfortable doing it. It's just not something he wants to do.
Anthony Rosenberg
I got to be honest. I'm obviously not a high level athlete, but I did play baseball growing up. I hated wearing a cup. It was the worst. Very uncomfortable. It's very uncomfortable you never get used to. I guess athletes probably do because they do it for their careers. But I, I, I'm kind of with jazz in this, Although if I was a major league player, I'd imagine I'd feel differently. But amazing.
Ty Butler
He doesn't, he, he feels like he's very stubborn and, and stuck to it. And I love jazz. I, I, I think he is a valuable asset on this team, but he is in the lineup tonight. Anthony, you've got chance for us, correct?
Unknown Guest
Absolutely. Boys, New York, you need to hear this. This summer, all lines lead to Champs Sports Fan Central Station. This summer, all lines lead to champs Sports fan Central Station. Soccer pop up shop open right in the heart of the city. 125 West 33rd street, right near the Garden. This is the soccer destination in New York. Jerseys for every national team you ride with. Hop on this USA bandwagon looks like they're gonna at least make the knockout stages. As long as they hold on here. Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, and way, way more, all under one roof. If you want to gear up, rep your country and feel the energy of the city champs Sports fan Central Station. 125 West 33rd Street. That's where you need to be. And Knicks fans, Jake, they still have championship gear to celebrate the team's first title in 53 years.
Anthony Rosenberg
Yes, I've spent an enormous amount of money on championship gear. In fact, the show I did Saturday night into Sunday morning after the Knicks won it all, I basically worked for free in my mind because everything I made from that show went right back to buying Nick Swag.
Ty Butler
I wonder how many people just made like all time bad life decisions because they were pouring all this money into like trying to get to one of the home games during the finals where it's like you're punting on insurance or, you know, car notes, rents, mortgages, vacations, whatever the case may be. Because it was like, nah, I've got to be there. I've got to be in the Garden.
Anthony Rosenberg
That was me, you know, Jalen Brunson, Asmon one day won't go to college.
Ty Butler
Speaking of your kid, I got to give a special birthday shout out to mine, Noah, who turned five yesterday.
Anthony Rosenberg
No one turned five. And Alan Hahn's birthday's today. I don't know how old Allen is.
Ty Butler
Yeah, I don't know how old Allen is, but special shout out to my kid. I cannot believe I have a 5 year old.
Anthony Rosenberg
Is that your oldest?
Ty Butler
He's my oldest. I have a 4, 5 year old and a 3 year old.
Anthony Rosenberg
Congrats on the sex.
Ty Butler
A lot of it. Especially during COVID I was gonna say during COVID Like this is when everyone's home, like Doing their thing. So Noah was a Covid baby.
Anthony Rosenberg
Wow. You see, you're the example that they talked to. I remember all the means about how this is going to create quite the other baby boom. And you're living proof it's true.
Ty Butler
I also think that there was some aspect of, like, shyness that happened during COVID because our babies were so secluded. So now he gets into public spaces and he doesn't feel his most comfortable.
Anthony Rosenberg
He would have been miserable at the parade. Then yesterday, you made the right call.
Ty Butler
That was not the right. That was not the right call. So we had. Because we knew we were not gonna have him in school on his birthday, we went to the American Dream mall indoor water park, which, by the way, talking about, like, exorbitant prices. Course costed me. Cost me an arm and a leg to get four of us into that thing.
Anthony Rosenberg
Did they try scam you as if you were like a tourist here for the World cup and FIFA had the American Dream wall under their. Under their, you know, their guidance there?
Ty Butler
No, but they got smart because they do this thing called, like, peak days. And so you're thinking peak would be like, Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Right, Weekends. But everyone catches onto that, and now Thursday's become a peak day, which we didn't know. So it took the price from $60 to 90.
Anthony Rosenberg
60 a kid or 60.
Ty Butler
60 per person.
Anthony Rosenberg
Regardless of age.
Ty Butler
Regardless of age. Just like, what the hell is going on in this country? But we had a phenomenal time. It was an absolute blast.
Anthony Rosenberg
Did either of you pee in the pool?
Ty Butler
No, that's nat. We did. See, by the way, it's funny you bringing that up. My wife says she peeked over and saw a little boy, like, pull his pants.
Caller Dave
Oh, no.
Ty Butler
Start going. He didn't have the Jake Asmon adult diaper.
Anthony Rosenberg
Didn't have the adult diaper on.
Ty Butler
Oh, man. So that was fun. Noah. I was gonna bring up Noah. On Wednesday, we cut the. We did cupcakes in class with a pizza for his pizza party. And my man started ballin', like, just crying because he was so embarrassed. He's a shy kid. So when he has all this attention on him and people were singing Happy birthday, he just starts crying.
Anthony Rosenberg
His dad's a big radio and TV star, and he's shy.
Ty Butler
Very, very shy. So happy birthday to my young boy, My young bull, Noah Donovan Butler. I love you, buddy.

Date: June 19, 2026
Hosts: Ty Butler, Anthony Rosenberg
Main Themes: The coronation of Jalen Brunson as New York’s preeminent sports star, a spirited debate about the city’s sports icons (especially Aaron Judge vs. Jalen Brunson), clutch vs. talent, and “Fraud Alert Friday”—calling out suspect fandom and fraudulent behavior in New York sports.
This electric hour is dominated by an in-depth, passionate debate about who truly wears the “King of New York” crown in sports right now—Jalen Brunson of the champion Knicks, or Yankees slugger Aaron Judge. The hosts, both lifelong and deeply invested fans, dissect every angle: talent, playoff performance, cultural impact, and what it means to own the city. The discussion generates lively calls from listeners, invoking classic New York sports debates (Jeter vs. A-Rod) and what makes an athlete beloved in NYC. The second half transitions to the lighthearted but scathing “Fraud Alert Friday,” calling out questionable fandom across the city’s sports landscape and among their own colleagues.
(Main segment: 02:00–15:51, with themes recurring through the hour)
“Jalen Brunson’s a hybrid of Derek Jeter the first three quarters and Mariano Rivera in the fourth. That’s the type of company we’re talking about.”
— Anthony Rosenberg (04:29)
(Callers interspersed 08:19–25:50)
(15:51–19:42)
“Nobody wanted the Rock… you could see it in their faces. They did not want the ball. Wimby didn’t want it. Vesel didn’t want it. The only guy who really wanted it was the one who you didn’t want shooting, and that was De’Aaron Fox.”
— Ty Butler (18:17)
(27:33–39:09)
“You can’t be a hardcore fan and have a second team… It just doesn’t work that way.”
— Ty Butler (38:53)
“You’re a casual… you’re just pandering to… Simps. You’re a simp. That’s what you are.”
— Anthony Rosenberg, on dual Yankees/Mets fans (38:32)
(44:03–47:24)
“Congrats on the sex.”—Anthony, ribbing Ty about his COVID lockdown baby boom.
“That’s Brunson. But the NBA equivalent, where, let’s be honest, as great as Mo [Rivera] is, and he is the greatest… the superstar in basketball is more impactful to the team directly winning than the all-time great closer.”
— Anthony Rosenberg (17:23)
“Judge is more like a rod and eventually a rod won a championship… But you’re taking Derek Jeter over him for everything we’ve outlined in the segment. That’s the thing with Brunson.”
— Anthony Rosenberg (14:32)
“If you’re a real baseball fan, you are either a Yankee fan or a Met fan… you don’t get more than one team.”
— Anthony Rosenberg (39:06)
