On 10.50am, our good friend Chris Canty. What up, Chris?
Chris Canty
Peter. What's happening, fellas?
Alan Hahn
What's going on, buddy? First and foremost, I want to shout out everybody right now stuck in traffic on the turnpike, okay? Exit the western spur, exit 16W. And Chris can, he certainly knows that exit. It is closed. And I mean we're talking about good mile or so of just jam backed up traffic. So anybody listening to us right now is hang in there, get through it. And we'll, we'll try to get through it with you, but that does not look good right now. We'll keep you updated if we hear anything that's going on over there. But Chris, before we get into the football stuff, I know you're a Yankees fan. I know you follow the Yankees. So this the story what we're hearing about Aaron Judge from Aaron Boone is not surprising in the fact that I can't expect that we're going to see him throwing the elbow issue that he has is remaining enough that it probably will keep him out of the field for the rest of the season. The way this season has turned in your eyes since mid June when it really fell to pieces. Do you have any hope that this team can still get back to a World Series? Or you're big on what it looks like? You always talk about that. Or, or do you look at them and say they just don't look like a team that can win a championship?
Chris Canty
Al, I gotta lean toward the latter. As much as it pains me, man, I just don't see how the Yankees overcome the comedy of errors that we've seen. And then on top of that, having the latest with the Aaron Judge situation. I don't know how they get past it. Right. They're awful when it comes to running the bases. They're not great when it comes to fielding the baseball. I just, when it comes to those types of things, I think when you're a championship team, you do all of the small things and you're more of a buttoned up operation. I just don't see that with this Yankees team. Now maybe, just maybe they're able to find something, someone in the clubhouse is able to rally them, but I don't see that happening. I just don't.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, it's, it's, it's something that has concerned me since the way they played the last time they faced the Red Sox and they're going to face them now this weekend. A four game set and it's sandwiched by all these cupcake games. So you're going to get some fool's gold wins, I think right now. And I hate to say it, but it's a real thing. They'll probably make the playoffs because their schedule is so weak, but I really have low expectations of them returning to a World Series because I just. The pitching issues that they've had, especially with Max Freed not finding it after the blister, has not been the same. There's a lot there that Peter and I are going to discuss later in the show, but I just want to hit you on that because I know that you are a fellow Yankees fan, but in the meantime we have had this discussion and I want to see where you are on this. And I think I know because I've seen you on get up and First Take. But I want to get to see there are a lot of former players on ESPN who are looking at the Giants and saying jackson dart shown me enough. He should play right away. Swagu said it, Mike Tannenbaum saying it, Damian Woody. There's been like a lot of people who are smart with football are saying he should start. He should play right away. Are you one of those people that has seen enough from Jackson Dart to feel like he should start because he's your future?
Chris Canty
Well, let me start by saying this, saying it this way. It's not too big for Jackson Dart. He's shown that across two preseason games. All of the things that you're hearing coming out of Giants camp, the response that you're hearing from opposing players when the Giants have had those joint practices last week. So I think Jackson Dart is going to be ready for prime time sooner rather than later. But I also understand the commitment that Brian Dabold and Joe Shane have made in terms of making sure they don't throw him out there before the kid is ready to help the team win. There are a couple of things that you have to look for when you're trying to determine whether or not a quarterback is ready to help the team win. Number one, can he protect himself? Does he understand the protection schemes? Does he understand all of the calls, the site adjustments at the line of scrimmage? You don't want a situation where Jackson Dart is caught out there bad like we saw with Anthony Richardson against the Ravens in the Colts first preseason game. So those types of things are what you look for starting out. The other thing that you want to make sure that your quarterback understands is how to manage the overall game. And right now it doesn't really matter because the score doesn't really count in preseason games. Right. Like being able to dictate the complexion of the game, being able to control what the game looks like. That aspect of it is not something that we've seen from Jackson Dart at this level. So I think those are the two things that Brian Dabel and Joe Shane have to figure out. And it's always easier for a young quarterback when he can actually see a veteran in front of him go through that process, at least early on in the regular season. Now, lucky for the Giants, they have the toughest schedule in the NFL. So we'll figure out what Russell Wilson still has left in the tank and if it doesn't work out with him as a starter early on, you can always go and fall back on Jackson Dart and give him an opportunity. I think it's harder to do it the other way around if you start with Dart and he struggles out the gate.
Don Hahn
Is there any potentially exciting ceiling for Russell Wilson or you think we know exactly sort of where things are most likely to land for Russ?
Chris Canty
Peter I hate to do this to Russ because I think he's been one of the all around good guys in the NFL for almost a decade. But it's over for Russell Wilson, and I realized that when I saw it at the end of last season with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Now, the offensive line for the Steelers did him no favors. Things were less than ideal in terms of the circumstances. He started last year dealing with an injury, so he had a lot stacked against him. That said, the team had everything to play for. The team started out playing really, really well with Justin Fields as their quarterback, and then, of course, Russell Wilson being installed as the starter. They were 10, three going into week 15, and they ended up losing five straight games, including a playoff game where they got embarrassed by the Baltimore Ravens and Russell Wilson had multiple turnovers. I just don't see how Russell Wilson ends up being able to elevate the Giants based on where he's at in his career currently.
Alan Hahn
Defensively, though, I feel like the Giants have something happening in their, especially their front step. Like the NASCAR packers, they have guys can get after the quarterback. Obviously Dexter Lawrence in the middle, it is. That could be a really scary defense. I'm not saying they're going to win a lot of games, but I'm saying they could be a defense that you feel it after you played them. And I said to Peter yesterday, I think they're going to take out a quarterback this season. Not. Not headhunting, not dirty. I just. They look like the type of defense that against a bad offensive line, there's going to be a quarterback that gets helped off the field because of this defense. Do you agree or disagree?
Chris Canty
Oh, I absolutely agree. And I mean, it doesn't have to be a bad offensive line. It can be a good offensive line. They just have so many different pass rushers that they can attack wherever the deficiency is, whoever the weak link is, whoever the favorable matchup is. And I think that's the beauty of what Joe Shane has been able to put together. Right? I mean, when I was playing with the Giants, we were eight deep when it came to our defensive line. But the thing that made us special was that we had a lot of different body types, a lot of different skill sets within that group that all could rush the passer. So whether it was, you know, a guy like me or whether it was, you know, a Justin Tuck or JPP who could play on the outside but kick down on the interior and jump around on guards, from an athletic standpoint, that were a matchup nightmare for those interior linemen. You have Matthias Kiwanuka, who was, you know, 6 6, 260 pounds. So really rangy that could utilize his length. There were a lot of different body types in that room. I mean, OCU minor 6 2, but he was a burner off the edge. A lot of skill set. We had a lot of guys, a lot of different types that could attack offensive lines, could attack protection. And I think that's what's going to separate this Giants defensive front. They have so many different types of rushers within that group that can get after the quarterback. That could create some problems for opposing offenses. So I'm really excited to see him work. I love Abdul Carter and his versatility. I think that's a guy that you have to keep your eye on for defensive rookie of the year. He's that talented.
Alan Hahn
Chris, how you got to tell me about training camp that year? Because that was a good offensive line that you guys had as well. Now, they were banged up for, I think, most of that season. Right. But what training camp. That must have been a war at the line of scrimmage with everything you guys had at both sides of that line.
Chris Canty
Oh, yeah, we got after it now. It got chippy in practice. But the one thing that I would say that we had with. With that team is that we knew how to work together. We knew how to get the work in. We. We had our fiery moments. You know, William Bey was a guy that a young player that we were going to have to rely on. So what did Tom Coughlin do? He made OCU minor rush over top of him every single day in practice just so that guy understood how to what he had to do and how much he had to grow. And so I think those are the types of things from a leadership standpoint that the Giants have to have to have elements of. You've got to have the understanding of working together in order to accomplish the common goal. And so from what I've heard about what's been happening in that training camp, they have that for the first time in a long time. And so I'm excited to see what this team is going to be. I think it's going to exceed the expectations that people came into training camp having for the New York Giants. I think this is a team that's going to surprise them.
Alan Hahn
I'm sorry, Peter. I just need one more on this. I love this. I know, but I love this conversation. Because all I'm thinking now is who has to deal with Dexter Lawrence every single day in training camp? That's gotta be a nightmare. Right? Like, that's all I'm just picturing that. Like what Chris just Described like, Will Beaty had to just oc Just going at him and at him and at like, you got to wake up just pissed off, like, oh, my God, I got to do this again. When is training camp ending? Like, who wants to face Dexter Lawrence every morning at practice? No, I'm good. Yeah.
Don Hahn
No, it's. Listen, believe me, I have a hunch that the other three teams in this division will feel the same way. Now, between us speculating on how good the defensive front for the Giants could be, and I'm in lockstep with you, Chris, I really think they could be a serious problem. A lot of people have predicted that my commanders will take a step back this year. I'm curious to know your thoughts on that or if you see this division sort of playing out the way we might expect with Philadelphia and Washington up top and then the Giants and Cowboys figuring it out, depending on, of course, what Dallas Cowboys team we get this year.
Chris Canty
Yeah, Peter, I don't know what them people are smoking, talking about your commanders taking a step back, because I don't see it. I don't see it. I think they have the most talented quarterback in the conference in Jaden Daniels. And in limited action in the preseason game we saw against the Bengals last night, he was absolutely phenomenal. Didn't even throw the football. But you saw everything you needed to see in terms of his command, his intangibles and the touchdown run that he showed you. It just, it makes you realize how difficult it's going to be to defend this offense. They upgraded on the offensive line. They added a weapon in Deebo Samuel. It seems like there's moving on to Terry McLaurin contract. He's going to be in the fold sooner rather than later. I just think there's a lot of things to like with the Washington commanders and the folks that are predicting a step back. I just, I don't see it. And mainly because I believe in the talent and the sports character of the quarterback that's leading them. They haven't had something like that in Washington in a long time.
Don Hahn
So I guess then to follow up on that, I'm guessing. So we do a thing here. We do it yearly, my quarterback tables, where instead of tears, I look at it like a wedding and I break down who's sitting. Sitting at what table. And this year, obviously, you know, the first four quarterbacks who are sitting at the table because they're all the AFC quarterbacks that are there every year. Right. Sitting at table one. But not.
Chris Canty
Well, I don't. I don't I don't agree with that. Okay, continue.
Don Hahn
All right, but, but you, but you could guess who they are, is my point.
Chris Canty
Sure.
Don Hahn
So I, I still have those four sitting at that table. And this year, on account of what Jalen Hurts has accomplished the last few seasons, including that super bowl mvp, I moved him to that table because I think it's deserved. Whether I think he's at the same skill level or not, I think he's earned his seat there. And then I added Jaden Daniels there, which a lot of people came back at me on. I'm guessing you don't disagree that Jaden Daniels, because I believe he gives you a chance on his own essentially to win a game any given week. I believe he deserves to sit with the big boys. Do you think that's a crazy thing to say?
Chris Canty
I don't think it's a crazy thing to say, Peter. You know, I wouldn't sit him at that table, but I don't have a good reason other than saying that I've only seen it for one year. That's it.
Alan Hahn
Yep.
Chris Canty
That's the only thing that keeps me from diving in and saying, hey, he belongs with the other quarterbacks that we consider to be, you know, great signal callers in this league.
Don Hahn
So who do you want to take off?
Chris Canty
I just need to see it again.
Alan Hahn
Yep. Who do you.
Don Hahn
So who do you want to take off from the big four in the afc?
Chris Canty
Well, here's what I will say. Jalen Hurts is the top five quarterback and he ain't five.
Alan Hahn
I agree.
Chris Canty
So if, if we're doing a power ranking, I'm going with Patrick Mahomes was understood and got to be said. Lamar Jackson, two time mvp Josh Allen, reigning mvp. Jalen Hurts, super bowl mvp. And then I'm gonna go with Joe Burrow. So that will be my top five quarterbacks in the league. And there's no diss to Joe Shiesty. I think he's a phenomenal quarterback. It's just that when it comes to those other guys in front of them, they got hardware to back up how good they are, whether it's MVPs, Super bowl wins or both. So that's, that's where I would rank him. But as far as Jaden Daniels is concerned, if he's going to supplant somebody, I would say that the one that he's closest to, given my rationale, would be Joe Burrow.
Don Hahn
I'll take it. I'll take it. Alan Han. I'm not mad at this.
Alan Hahn
No, it's it's all logical. And of course, Chris can. He does operate in logic a lot of times when he gives you a take.
Don Hahn
Speaking of that logic, Chris, did you. Did. Did you defend me when was. I was somewhat attacked for leaving the group chat?
Chris Canty
I. So here's the thing. I don't have an issue with you. I don't have an issue with you not responding. I don't understand why you left the group chat as opposed to just putting it on silence.
Alan Hahn
There you go.
Don Hahn
I hear you.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, hear you. See, that's again, logic.
Don Hahn
Hear your logic.
Alan Hahn
Pure logic.
Don Hahn
Your logic makes a lot of sense.
Chris Canty
Okay?
Don Hahn
But for me, I'm not able. I don't have any unread texts. So when I. When I go to look at my phone while I'm away with the family to see what mom or dad or anyone saying, or even to see what Don or Allen have personally texted me, I can't ignore the blue dot that sends the text to the top of the heap. Even if the notifications are off. It just. I can't resist it. I admit it's my own problem, but I can't. It still gets to me.
Chris Canty
You're not alone with that problem, Peter. I have the same thing. Mine is with emails. All of these unread emails just stacking up in my inbox. It gives me a level of anxiety.
Alan Hahn
You hate the red circle with a number, right? That makes you crazy. I know.
Chris Canty
Me crazy.
Alan Hahn
Clear it out.
Chris Canty
Drives me crazy. So I hear where you're at with the text messages. It feels like it's akin to all of the emails that people bombard you with on a daily basis. I don't know when the hell we started sending 50 emails to a person every single day. It's ridiculous. I get tired of it. But I'm with you. It would give me some anxiety, too. But I would feel even worse about bailing on the group chat if.
Alan Hahn
You know what?
Don Hahn
If you got to protect our mentals. Mentals and chicken. Never forget what Marshawn told me.
Alan Hahn
But we all know. We all know. All of us know how to protect our chicken. There's no question about that. But when it comes to what Peter, the way it's like, Chris, it was such an abrupt, it was like, door slam kind of moment.
Don Hahn
I admit it.
Alan Hahn
And, like, it kind of shook me because it happened. I was like, oh, whoa. Like, I think he might have. It might have been the day, the last show you did. And then like, that night, I think it might have been even a text that I sent about something happening in the game that night. And he's like, you know what, guys? I'm out. I can't. I can't do this.
Don Hahn
It was. It was actually the response to me.
Alan Hahn
Like, some innocent, like, hey, it was, Anthony can't throw right now. And it's like, that's it. I'm out. I'm out.
Don Hahn
It was actually worse than that, Candy. It was. It was Anthony Pusick's just mourning.
Alan Hahn
Oh, hey, hey.
Don Hahn
Here's what's going on, fellas. And I was like, all right, I'm out.
Chris Canty
I admit it on the group chat.
Alan Hahn
That's it. That's it. He. He just. He put the parachute on. Open the door and jumped out. That's it.
Don Hahn
That's.
Alan Hahn
So we felt a certain way. That's all I'm saying.
Don Hahn
How's. How's my girl Michelle Smallman doing over there on unsportsmanlike?
Chris Canty
Oh, Smallman is doing great. You know, she just celebrated her birthday last week.
Don Hahn
I saw. Yes.
Chris Canty
With the fam doing her thing. Celebrating the birthday. But she's awesome, man. Smallman is the only reason that I haven't been arrested for attempted murder on Evan Co.
Alan Hahn
So, yeah, I believe it.
Chris Canty
Grateful for her every single day, especially this week, because she's back in studio with us, and I don't have to deal with Evan by myself.
Alan Hahn
Wow.
Don Hahn
See? See, now she's. She is one of the great talents in the company.
Chris Canty
You know what I heard that she should be canonized. She's amazing.
Alan Hahn
You know what I heard there, Peter? Kenny still misses when I hosted shows with him.
Don Hahn
Oh, yeah, you could tell.
Alan Hahn
It's like a high bar now. Very high bar.
Chris Canty
You know, you my guy, Al. Come on, man. You. You're the one that told me to keep showing up. And they'll give me a W2 and a key card.
Alan Hahn
Think about the advice.
Chris Canty
Your plan worked.
Alan Hahn
It did. It did. More zeros on your. On your check. More zeros. But, Peter, think about the advice I gave to two former athletes to get them into this business Was the same exact thing. Keep showing up till they tell you not to. I said that to Rick and I said it to Chris, and they both become stars.
Don Hahn
Yep, that's. That's a great point.
Alan Hahn
I mean, you'd think I said something really dramatic and insightful. All I really said was just keep showing up until they tell you not to. And they refused to let these guys go.
Don Hahn
Now, now, as. Can't he ever radio.
Chris Canty
You're like Oprah Winfrey of sports radio, Evan.
Don Hahn
That's what you Do. He just called you Evan.
Alan Hahn
Peter called me Don. Earlier. Chris called me. Now Candy's calling me Evan.
Don Hahn
But that's. That's even worse.
Alan Hahn
I'm having identity. Identity crisis.
Chris Canty
I feel. I feel. I feel like there's actually disrespect.
Don Hahn
Yeah, that's disrespectful. He just told you he wants to kill Evan and then he called you Evan.
Alan Hahn
Yeah.
Don Hahn
Chris. Thank you, buddy.
Chris Canty
All right. Thanks, guys.
Alan Hahn
Appreciate you.
Don Hahn
The great Chris Canty. Yo, listen, we both got information. We liked you because you just want to be right on. Jackson dart and the Giant Giants front.
Alan Hahn
But I don't lockstep. But I don't love that. He's also sounding like somebody that would play him now. You could tell he's got he's zero buy in on Russell Wilson.
Don Hahn
Zero. No. But he also thinks there's a major risk to playing him now.
Alan Hahn
Yes. And I think that's the most important thing to look at. Get through the tough early schedule. There's a part in the schedule. You see it. Everybody can see it. You look at it and you go, yep, that's where you play them right there.
Don Hahn

Thanks for listening to the Don Hahn and Rosenberg Podcast.
I didn't listen to anything you just said.
Catch the show on demand whenever you want. Just subscribe to us wherever you get your podcasts. Sometimes you just can't take it anymore. This is let's Talk About It Tuesday with Don Han and Rosenberg sponsored by Better Help.
All right, Talk about it Tuesday, sponsored by Better Help. As you just heard heard mental health is health. Agree with that wholeheartedly. Peter Rosenberg, Alan Hahn on Tuesday, August 19 Alan Hahn, I know you feel very strongly about some things going on in the world. I'll let you take the baton first.
Alan Hahn
Well, what I'm going to do actually, because it's a shared thought but certainly originally from our own Jacob Perry is I'm going to yield the mic to him because. Oh, he, he wants to talk about something that I also agree this needs to be discussed. So I'm going to let Jake take it from here.
Jacob Perry
All right.
Alan Hahn
Yeah.
Jacob Perry
The my talk about it for today.
Don Hahn
I mean here we go.
Jacob Perry
I've been excited about the NBA on NBC. It's one of the big things that.
Alan Hahn
Have been probably looking Song is back. Right.
Jacob Perry
Listen, I remember earlier in my childhood and it's something I haven't heard in a while.
Alan Hahn
Yeah.
Jacob Perry
So you know, I was kind of looking forward to then yesterday.
Alan Hahn
Yep.
Jacob Perry
The NBA announced that they'd be doing coast to coast games.
Alan Hahn
Yes.
Jacob Perry
And everybody on the east coast start times at 11:00pm now usually most NBA games are about the second game. That West coast game is about a 10 or 10:30 start.
Don Hahn
Yeah. I mean anywhere from 9:30 to 10:30 being the latest. Actual latest.
Alan Hahn
Yes.
Jacob Perry
So now every, every Tuesday's game will be 11pm Outside of the their premiere game on. Well the debut premiere game which is Golden State and Lakers which is a 10pm game every game following for the rest of the season will be 11pm games. Now you ask me why does that suck? Because everybody on the east coast will be absolutely dead the next day going into Wednesday trying to stay up for that game.
Don Hahn
That is a door.
Jacob Perry
Now I didn't understand why they didn't push forward that first game and then probably make that at what like a 6:30 start and then that way 9:30 would probably be the initial the following game. But they decided to move the second game to 11pm to I guess for the west coast fans and just totally discredit everybody on the East Coast.
Alan Hahn
I mean, think about this. We have seen more of a directive by leagues to try to make sure they can get the entire country to tune in. So that's why you get 9pm NBA final tip offs. Because they're aware of the fact that on the west coast that's still six. Right. And so an 8 o' clock start, that doesn't work on the West Coast. We've always argued and they always used to use the term east coast bias. Well, the majority of the population still lives on the East Coast. It's a real thing. But that doesn't matter. They go by markets, not by population. And so that has been in a lot of sports. The idea of trying to find that magical time that fits everyone. And NBC's like, the hell with that. What we want to make sure is that when Golden State plays the Lakers or you know, whatever big game they're going to have, that it's at 8 o' clock local time, which allows people to get home from work, have dinner and then sit down and watch the.
Don Hahn
Game like a gentleman.
Alan Hahn
And I also think to NBC being, you know, again, network 8 o' clock is when their primetime begins for all their shows. Not 7:30 and not 7. So they are staying aligned with their programming and that's how they want to do it. So for them it also works out that way for their local affiliates. Is that what they're trying to suggest? Which will never happen. But the 11 o' clock news, you'll still get at 11 something. You might not get it at 11 o', clock, but you're going to get it in the 11 o' clock hour. You'll get the 11 o' clock news, which for all the local affiliates, that's a big deal. I think that's what has to do with now. How much is going to impact your ability to watch the NBA? That's the question I have here. East coast viewers have no problem. 8:00 clock start, fine, not a big deal. Go Watch the game, call it a night. But if there's a West coast game you want to see, this doesn't impact the west coast. This only impacts the East. And once again it continues this. What's the reverse of a bias? This is no longer an east coast bias. This is now an east coast something else. Because more and more we've seen less emphasis on the importance of, of the east coast, especially the Northeast. They don't care about us. It's amazing. But it's. And this is a great example of it. Oh, so my game tips off at 11 on. On a school night. Sorry kid, can't watch it. That's literally what NBC is telling you. Too bad. Can't watch it. Like TNT would do the 7 and 10. Even ESPN would try to get at 10 o' clock in NBC. Nope. And they're telling the east coast is while a lot of the stars playing the Western Conference. Sorry New York, sorry Boston, Philly. You're not going to get to see it or you have to stay up late.
Jacob Perry
Mind you, those are the die hard.
Alan Hahn
Cities that we're Basketball. Yeah. Oh yeah, yeah.
Jacob Perry
But I'm just looking at.
Alan Hahn
Let's make sure though that Salt Lake City can get their game because you know.
Don Hahn
Well, don't be that guy.
Alan Hahn
Well, no, but this is the problem though. San Antonio is 50 people live in that city.
Don Hahn
Okay, right.
Alan Hahn
But this is what you're focused on the wrong thing.
Don Hahn
Well, over 50 people.
Alan Hahn
Look, I'm being a little sarcastic but the idea that I have seen in sports is this bias now against serving the largest population areas and instead it's about markets. That's all I care about. And I think this is more about the affiliates and the 11 o' clock news than anything else.
Jacob Perry
My opinion now Don who loves the Portland Trail Blazers has to wait till.
Alan Hahn
11Pm he'll never watch Damian Lillard in Portland ever again.
Don Hahn
We don't even know why. Still don't know why.
Alan Hahn
It's a secret.
Don Hahn
But he's for some reason.
Alan Hahn
But it's his secret.
Don Hahn
You know it is true though. Like back in the day when I. When I wasn't doing mornings and who knows if hot doesn't come with the right contract that could be happening again very soon. I used to love a late night tip. A yo get the idea.
Alan Hahn
Yeah.
Don Hahn
No, it's fair.
Alan Hahn
Well in college I can understand why.
Don Hahn
Well, late night tip and just the tip two very different.
Alan Hahn
Well, you just give it a try. Tell me.
Don Hahn
But I really did. I mean like so much of my love for Kobe Came from just loving watching late Lakers games In the early 2000s when all I was was DJing, I was waking up every day at 11:30 like, like Don Legreco once famously said, and I'll sleep right until noon. I was living off the late night Kobe. Oh, these are, these are the, these are the Bobby Jackson Sacramento Kings. This is, this is every night. The score in a game out there is 139 to 132. And you're just having an absolute ball. And it does. 11 is tough. 11 is tough because even if you're young and single and don't have responsibility to wait, if the game you care about is the late game and you. Let's say, let's say that the, the first game's a slog, which oftentimes they are, then you're sitting around, you're just not doing it.
Alan Hahn
Eastern Conference games are usually those, the grinders. And then the Western Conference games are the 125 to 118, you know, and.
Don Hahn
Here'S my talk about it. I'm making this up on the fly, okay? A lot of marquee games seemingly between the New York Knicks and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Alan Hahn
That would be two of them.
Don Hahn
Well, opening night.
Alan Hahn
Opening night and Christmas day.
Don Hahn
So we got the Christmas day noon tip like you dream about.
Alan Hahn
Oh, God.
Don Hahn
And you got the opening night. Am I the only one who, in spite of the fact that the Cavs and Knicks are now both good teams, sees that matchup and I have no movement like, that's not the movement like for Knicks opening night?
Alan Hahn
I don't blame you.
Don Hahn
It does. I don't. You could give me Knicks, Lakers, opening night. You could give me even depleted Knicks, Celtics, Knick, Sixers, 95, a little battle of I95. All of those things give me more movement for whatever reason.
Alan Hahn
Cavs, calves don't. Cavs don't move.
Don Hahn
You right.
Alan Hahn
Here's why, though. The east is not great and these are going to be the two or these are projected to be the two.
Don Hahn
Best teams, which is why it makes sense.
Alan Hahn
So you just want to put pit them against each other because you're anticipating that they're going to be battling each other for the top seed in the east. Right? That's what you're anticipating. Doesn't mean it's going to happen. You know, Atlanta, Orlando, you know, you got to watch them and see what they can make of things because Atlanta got better and Orlando is healthy and they should be good. But that doesn't, that doesn't move your needle, does It. Peter, that's not. That's not getting you to watch. So that's. I completely understand. The east is not really going to. It's not going to be a fun conference to watch. So you're going to try to find, you know, Bucks, Knicks, you know, stuff like that. Like you're going to look for those games. That's why The Knicks have 34 national games this season. 34. It's the most any. I think there's like two other teams that have 34. There's like, that's the max. You can have. The Knicks have it. They're going to be seen nationally an obscene amount of times now that doesn't.
Don Hahn
Every one of those games. Allen, we still get Alan Hahn on msg, correct?
Alan Hahn
Not everyone. No, we.
Don Hahn
Some of them.
Alan Hahn
The local. The regional sports networks. You can. There's a certain amount that they take exclusively and then once they hit that cap and I think the number would be 16. So at least a little less than half or so could be 18. I'm not sure if the number went up, but it's about half of them will. Will go side by side.
Don Hahn
I'd like to also add to the talk about it Tuesday.
Alan Hahn
Please do.
Don Hahn
This isn't a totally healthy thing to say, but I got. I get caught up sometimes. You get caught up with those. Those New York Post headlines.
Alan Hahn
Okay.
Don Hahn
This one. Disturbing video shows brute knock woman unconscious in vicious beating at concert in Rose Bowl.
Alan Hahn
Oh, boy.
Don Hahn
And there's a viral video of the story that they're saying it is is that a guy accidentally spilled a drink on the guy in front of him. The girlfriend tried to get in the middle. The guy who had the drink spilled on him went absolutely mad like a rabid animal and pummeled the girl.
Alan Hahn
But what the guy do that.
Don Hahn
That part's a little unclear. It looks like the guy's like trying to protect the girl. I don't know. That. I don't know.
Alan Hahn
Must have been a. Must have been a. A noticeable size difference between these two men.
Don Hahn
Either either that or like the guy seemed so out of control that the guy would like, didn't know what to do. It happened too fast. I am looking. The guy who did it was fairly big. He's not gigantic. I know this sounds crazy and this doesn't sound. This may surprise people coming from me.
Alan Hahn
Say it.
Don Hahn
You viciously, intentionally be beat a woman death pedal, quick conversation, 20, 30 minutes. Blah, blah, blah. Throw them off a bridge. Good night and good luck. We move on with our lives. How many drinks does One have to have at a concert before a beer getting spilled on them leads them to savagely beating a woman like, Alan, God forbid.
Alan Hahn
Well, being at a concert and getting, like, into it, eventually, things like being at a ball game. Like, I've always told the story like, I was about to catch a home run at Citi Field. I was there with my kids. They were young. And the ball's coming right to me, and I just hand out, ready to grab it. And the guy behind me reaches his beer.
Don Hahn
Forward.
Alan Hahn
Cup forward in front of my hand. The ball hits the cup. My kids are covered in beer. I'm covered in beer. The ball now, of course, goes flying somewhere else, of course. And I just turn around, like. And he's just laughing. And I'm just like, why the hell did you do that for? He goes, I tried to catch it in the cup. And I just. What? What could I do? I'm like, well, he's drunk. He's a moron.
Don Hahn
But you're a sane person. And you.
Alan Hahn
I just was like, oh, my God. Like. And it was just kind of funny because we're all just covered like, my kids were laughing like, you know, like, it wasn't anything crazy. It's just a stupid ball. So it all depends on your perspective of where you are. And that's a man that always. He feels perpetually disrespected and had to. Can I give you another headline if we want to do a talk about it on a lighter note?
Don Hahn
Some people are just deranged.
Alan Hahn
I agree with. But I Just. For the record, I completely agree with you. Cambridge dictionary ripped for adding nonsense slang term skibidi to its database.
Don Hahn
What are we doing?
Alan Hahn
This is a real story. So the dictionary decided to add these. These Internet culture words that, you know, a lot of our kids are saying, and we just stare at them like, okay, that's dumb, Dalulu. But the skibidi one makes you just want to, like, just face.
Don Hahn
Yo, man. So, Alan, we did not have slang that was this dumb.
Alan Hahn
My friend and I tried. We had this discussion when we were out. We've had many discussions, by the way. These were. These were very deep and insightful things. And that was one of them, is, let's go back and think of slang words from our generation that stood the test of time versus the ones that just disappeared, but nothing as nonsensical as some of these words. So the reasoning. I gotta find the quote. But the reasoning for adding these words. The guy's name is Colin McIntosh. He's the lexical program Manager at Cambridge Dictionary. He said Internet culture is changing the English language. And the effect is fascinating to observe and capture in the dictionary. He said it's not every day you get to see words like skibidi and delulu make their way into the Cambridge dictionary. We only add words where we think they'll have staying power. Do you really think skibidi has staying power? There are teenagers that are now cringing it like that. We're like, I used to say that. Oh, my God. They'll never want to say it again, ever.
Don Hahn
It is skibidi. Listen, let me say something right here. This is a great thing you've brought to us. I know we're late. We're gonna break. Everyone calm down. But I just looked up. I've looked up the skibidi came from before, but I looked it up again, and when you get into the definition of it.
Alan Hahn
The YouTube thing. Yeah, yeah.
Don Hahn
But when you get into definition, it says sometimes used to mean cool or good can also mean bad or weird or have no specific meaning at all.
Alan Hahn
At all.
Don Hahn
That's a fail as slang. And delulu, a lame shortening of another word.
Alan Hahn
Delusion. Delusional is just.
Don Hahn
This is.
Alan Hahn
Yeah.
Don Hahn
I could point out slang that had staying power, you know, and again, I'll risk getting in trouble again. Most slang that gets added to the dictionary in my lifetime, if we're being fairly honest, comes from black culture and hip hop. It comes from slang.
Alan Hahn
Skateboard culture. To skate.
Don Hahn
You know what? Good call. And skate culture.
Alan Hahn
Yeah.
Don Hahn
Comes from actual places of culture. This is what happens when it comes from just the Internet and suburban kids goofing off. There's nothing good here. This is not.
Alan Hahn
But it's not nothing. Burger to me again, staying power. A word that will stay in our lexicon forever. And this guy's out of his mind because this is. Again, to me, this is what leads to the rotting of culture. When we just start looking at entertainment words and goofy like you just said. And then we create. We. We turn them into. Hey, now, this is. This is actually a real word we're going to use.
Don Hahn
Staying power. You want to hear staying power?
Alan Hahn
Give me one.
Don Hahn
Staying power is dis.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, that's staying power.
Don Hahn
Yeah, that. That's something that started as slang that literally has lasted now what. It's been mainstream for 20 years.
Alan Hahn
Word.
Don Hahn
Word.
Alan Hahn
But we were. We were finding our slang words from our generations, and we were just like, I don't even say that word anymore. You know, stuff like.
Don Hahn
Yeah. And listen. And some stayed and then went away.
Alan Hahn
Yeah.
Don Hahn
I'm not gonna lie. I think I use I don't know. This chill out is amazing. I use dope all the time still.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, dope has lasted a on the other side, I have a question about this. When it because you called me on a word I used and you said you're too old to say that.
Don Hahn
Oh yeah.
Alan Hahn
And I have a question cap on. Yes, I have a question on that that I want everybody to answer. We got calls to get to as well. 800 now we're 93776. But that was a good talk about it. We got a lot out. Felt good.
Don Hahn
Let's do. Let's do more next right here on Don Hanna Rosenberg ESPN New York.

Manona what a story they are when you consider they just like. They were mostly like a studio. Right? They were like.
Don Hahn
Yeah, studio.
Alan Hahn
Studio.
Don Hahn
And they were Thriller.
Alan Hahn
Like it's crazy. But yeah, this is. This is. What a great song. So the question I wanted to ask real quick before we get to calls and back into everything else, but let.
Don Hahn
Me close this out first while you're doing. Please do put a little bow on this.
Alan Hahn
Please do.
Don Hahn
Finishing up Talk about it Tuesday. Sponsored by better help. Visit betterhelp.com timeout today for 10% off your first month of therapy. And Al, we were talking about slang words.
Alan Hahn
Yes.
Don Hahn
And ridiculous words like skibidi.
Alan Hahn
Yeah. How the Cambridge dictionary is adding these words and some others that are just bizarre because they feel like they have staying power. Which is funny because I think that word's been around for about what, a year anyway. But we, you know, we all know each generation, we all have our slang that we developed and we said to our parents and they looked at us like the hell you talking about? You know, whatever it was. Sup? Oh my God, if I said sup to my dad. Sup, dad? What do you mean, sup? So you got on me because I jokingly would say cap a lot of times, and you were like, you can't say that word. Right, cap. So can I ask this question? Is it then is it more acceptable for me to use my generation word so I can say word? Like, I could do. Like, can I do that? Because that's more my generation.
Don Hahn
That's great.
Alan Hahn
Because even though it's a word no one uses anymore, it is a word in my generation. So can I. Can I use words from my own generation? Or is that now? No, you can't do that either. So I have to speak the king's English and I cannot use slang terms because I'm over 50 and I'm too old for this. So what. What say you?
Don Hahn
I. Well, two things. One, I've had a lot of time to think about the cap situation. And I've heard from another parent of teenagers that they use it also because it's something their kid says a lot. So as a result of your kids.
Alan Hahn
Saying, oh, oh, you should hear my household.
Don Hahn
He's capping.
Alan Hahn
Yeah.
Don Hahn
Now you're near now drawn into it. You're like, no, he's not capping. You know what I mean? Like, it's now kind of made it to you. Whereas I have an infant. Cap will probably not be the word. Although I will say that my last. It may have.
Alan Hahn
Saying that might have. Should that be in the Cambridge dictionary, by the way? No, it already is.
Don Hahn
By the way. Cap should definitely be ahead of dulu or skibidi.
Alan Hahn
Well, you mean adding a definition to cap? Because obviously cap is in the dictionary already.
Don Hahn
Yeah, Right.
Alan Hahn
But adding another usage of.
Don Hahn
Yes, especially because cap's going to do really well because of the cap emoji people like to use.
Alan Hahn
Well done.
Don Hahn
Now, the funny thing is, Riz is already there, and I heard Riz is dead.
Alan Hahn
Oh, Riz is painful.
Don Hahn
I heard the kids are done.
Alan Hahn
No, they are, because now all aura.
Don Hahn
They're off. Riz.
Alan Hahn
Everything's aura. Yeah, yeah, Aura, farming and all that stuff. I used. I used Riz to my daughter the other day as a joke, and she was horrified. She's like, please don't tell me you ever use that word in public. I'm like, what do you mean? She's like, just don't ever use that word in public. It's not a word. Nobody uses it. She was like, warning me, yeah, it's dead.
Don Hahn
We are in an awkward spot. Like the Funny thing for me at being 46 is like, I came onto this show as the young guy and a lot of my stuff, you know, over the last 10 years when I've been finding myself in sports and in wwe, I was the young guy. I am not anymore. But I still operate, you know, somewhat in a youngish world. Finding that line of like, what words to say on TV that feel organic to you, but on TV make you sound like such a nozzle. It's. It's iffy, man. I understand we're both in an area of tough sledding in that regard. Because you can cross into OK Boomer in two seconds by using the like. Exactly. You thought Riz was still going on?
Alan Hahn
No, I was. I was messing with her.
Don Hahn
You were being ironic.
Alan Hahn
She was worried that I thought it was still going.
Don Hahn
But you knew it was dead.
Alan Hahn
I would never use it anyway. That sounds bizarre for somebody like me to say Cap is because I spent a lot of time with Bart and Bart said it all the time. So I just.
Don Hahn
And by the way, as I pointed out, Bart also too old, but he's around athletes. I get it.
Alan Hahn
He's an athlete.
Don Hahn
Yeah, yeah. Athletes have a longer shelf life. Now a few people have called.
Alan Hahn
We have to take this break, get.
Don Hahn
To the top of the hour. Let's get a couple song a summer thoughts.
Alan Hahn
I'll tell you what, let's do this instead.
Don Hahn
Go ahead.
Alan Hahn
I gotta give you game time.
Don Hahn
That's even better.
Alan Hahn
And then in the 5 o' clock hour, let's talk to the people.
Don Hahn
You want. You want to then talk to the people about everything.
Alan Hahn
Everything. It's a full buffet.
Don Hahn
Oh, we love a full buffet. 1-919-3776 your calls. We'll get to it. 5. Give me some. Some game time. I wonder when the local teams are in action.

—
This episode features a lively segment with ESPN Radio’s Chris Canty discussing the state of New York sports, especially the Yankees’ and Giants’ outlooks, quarterback controversies, and the potential of young and veteran players. The hosts dig into the NBC NBA schedule changes and the impacts of late tip-offs on East Coast fans. The crew also debates the evolution and staying power of slang words, sprinkled with their signature banter and real-talk.
“I just don’t see how the Yankees overcome the comedy of errors that we’ve seen.” (02:51)
“When you’re a championship team, you do all of the small things and you’re more of a buttoned up operation. I just don’t see that with this Yankees team.” (03:02)
“They’ll probably make the playoffs because their schedule is so weak, but I really have low expectations of them returning to a World Series.” (03:34)
Cites concern since mid-June collapse, especially with pitching.
“It’s not too big for Jackson Dart. He’s shown that across two preseason games… I think Jackson Dart is going to be ready for primetime sooner rather than later. But… you don’t want a situation where Jackson Dart is caught out there bad.” (04:50)
“It’s over for Russell Wilson… I just don’t see how Russell Wilson ends up being able to elevate the Giants based on where he’s at in his career currently.” (07:06)
“That could be a really scary defense… against a bad offensive line, there’s going to be a quarterback that gets helped off the field because of this defense.” (08:12)
“Oh, I absolutely agree. They just have so many different pass rushers that they can attack wherever the deficiency is… That’s the beauty of what Joe Shane has put together.” (08:53)
Reminisces about 2007–08 Giants’ “8 deep” D-line; points out Abdul Carter as a potential Defensive Rookie of the Year.
“It got chippy in practice. But… we knew how to work together. We had our fiery moments… Those are the types of things from a leadership standpoint the Giants have to have.” (10:57)
Praises current Giants’ unity—thinks they’ll “exceed expectations” (11:59)
“I don’t know what them people are smoking, talking about your Commanders taking a step back, because I don’t see it… I think they have the most talented quarterback in the conference in Jaden Daniels.” (13:14)
“Jalen Hurts has earned his seat there… I added Jaden Daniels there, which a lot of people came back at me on.” (14:52)
“I wouldn’t sit him at that table, but I don’t have a good reason other than saying that I’ve only seen it for one year.” (15:29)
“Jalen Hurts is a top 5 quarterback and he ain’t five… Mahomes, Lamar, Allen, Hurts, Burrow” (16:03)
“If [Daniels] is going to supplant somebody… it would be Joe Burrow.” (16:49)
“Chris Canty does operate in logic…” (17:00)
“I don’t have an issue with you not responding. I don’t understand why you left the group chat as opposed to just putting it on silence.” (17:18)
“I can’t ignore the blue dot… Even if notifications are off. I can’t resist it… it gives me anxiety.” (17:42)
“Unread emails just stack up… it gives me a level of anxiety.” (18:14)
“Smallman is the only reason that I haven’t been arrested for attempted murder on Evan Co.” (20:21)
“You’re the one that told me to keep showing up and they’ll give me a W2 and a key card.” (21:07)
“NBA on NBC… coast to coast games… every Tuesday’s game will be 11pm… everybody on the east coast will be absolutely dead the next day… the west coast gets all the love, east coast gets none.” (28:24)
“This is a great example… NBC is telling the east coast: too bad, can’t watch it… they don’t care about us.” (31:05)
“The east is not great and these are projected to be the two… best teams, which is why it makes sense… But I completely understand. The east is not really going to… be a fun conference to watch.” (36:12, 36:22)
“Do you really think skibidi has staying power? There are teenagers that are now cringing…” (41:20)
“Most slang that gets added to the dictionary in my lifetime comes from black culture and hip hop… This [skibidi] is what happens when it comes from just the Internet and suburban kids goofing off.” (43:14)
“I used Riz to my daughter… she was horrified. She’s like, please don’t tell me you ever use that word in public… it’s dead.” (49:01)
Chris Canty on Russell Wilson:
“It’s over for Russell Wilson… I just don’t see how Russell Wilson ends up being able to elevate the Giants.” (07:06)
Chris Canty on group chat anxiety:
“Unread emails just stacking up… gives me a level of anxiety.” (18:14)
Alan Hahn on network priorities:
“This is a great example… NBC is telling the east coast: too bad, can’t watch it.” (31:05)
Don on late NBA games:
“Even if you’re young and single… if the game you care about is the late game… you’re just not doing it.” (34:09)
Peter Rosenberg on slang:
“You can cross into ‘OK Boomer’ in two seconds by using the wrong word…” (49:23)
The episode features candid, relatable banter—mixing hard sports analysis with humor and cultural commentary, often poking fun at themselves and the absurdities of sports fandom, media life, and generational divides.
A rich, entertaining hour blending die-hard New York sports talk, locker-room stories, and the everyday angst of group chats and generational slang. Chris Canty shines as a logical, insightful analyst; the hosts keep it lively and real. Basketball fans, Giants/Yankees followers, and anyone who’s ever winced at the word “skibidi” will find something to love.
