Alan Hahn
Like you dream about.
Peter Rosenberg
Got lots to talk about.
Alan Hahn
So many things to talk about. We're gonna talk and we're gonna talk and talking so.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, that was Adam Schefter tweets out earlier that the Giants have Jackson dart as Quarterback 2 on their depth chart. Giants nation flipped out unofficial depth chart. Now it's unofficial.
Don Hahn
It's just what they put out.
Peter Rosenberg
It's not like remember the unofficial depth chart that Rex had back in the day where it was all alphabetical order like everybody had to earn their spot. So if you, if you're, if your name began with an A, then you.
Don Hahn
Were going to be a starter, at.
Peter Rosenberg
Least for the start of the training camp. It's pretty stupid. But Peter, while you were away, the big topic of conversation from Giants camp and also from people like Mike Tannenbaum, that dart should start right away. You can only learn from playing, which I completely disagree with. He can learn from a future hall of Famer. Let him play. Especially with Thomas. Maybe not ready for opening day. I mean, come on. But now that he's the second quarterback, then you, you're, you're. If Wilson zigs instead of zags on a play, guess what? Jackson dart your starting quarterback now he's earned it. If you remember when football training camp started, I said right now the objective is for Dart to beat out Winston and be the number two quarterback. And he did it. And now I guess the next objective is going to be to take over when he's ready. But ready when you're the back when you're the backup quarterback. You have to be ready and ready sometimes. Doesn't mean that we believe you're ready. It's no get ready because we just lost our starting quarterback or stay ready.
Don Hahn
And that's what they probably are trying to get him to be is part of the development process is to not make him QB3 when now everything that you have done in the training camp, all of the prep, every single day, getting reps, every single day, playing in preseason games, all of a sudden that stops and then disappears. And then in three, four weeks, you got to ramp it back up again. Right. If you're going to play. This keeps him locked in. It's the smarter thing to do. Winston is a pro, is a vet, he can handle it. Which I think is the most important part of this. Not somebody that would, you know, you're not going to see him go to the media pissed off that he's the third quarterback. He's not going to do that. At least they don't expect.
Peter Rosenberg
You see him, he's.
Don Hahn
Because he's totally embracing, understands everything about it. Right. And I think what this does, it's all part of the development process. If something happens to Wilson, they are showing you that they are confident that he could step in and play. But they also know that Wilson staying healthy and playing early in the season means that Jackson Dart has the headset. He's hearing all the play calling. He's understanding that what's going on. And, and by the way, don't be surprised if there's a fourth and one, then he's out there. Don't be surprised if they're in the red zone.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, you saw that in the jets, right? Just throw them out there, see if he can handle it.
Don Hahn
If something like that comes up in a game and all of a sudden he's out there for a random play to keep him sharp. Dable's been doing it since day one, since the kid came in the building after the draft. And that's part of development process. This is a smart move by the Giants.
Alan Hahn
I have no issue with this. My only, the only thought I have is how much did they, how much are they paying him? And I'm not asking this rhetorically, asking sincerely because I'm stupid. How much are they paying James Winston?
Peter Rosenberg
I don't think it's.
Don Hahn
It's, it's a few million movable deal. No, it's, it's not. It's not nothing. It's not Nothing.
Alan Hahn
It was 4 million a year.
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
No, it's nothing.
Don Hahn
These days it's nothing, but it's, but it's a multi. But can't you, can't you just move.
Alan Hahn
Isn't there a way to just move him?
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, because like, I mean that, that now, but you don't want to do that. So what do you want?
Alan Hahn
But what's the hope then? So if something Happens to Wilson's, you can bring him back.
Don Hahn
If something happens to Wilson and Dart becomes your starter, you still need a capable backup.
Alan Hahn
I don't want to get into a whole thing here because you may disagree. I just would have said, though, if that was the purpose, was literally just to be a bridge, bridge the gap. Why couldn't they have kept Tommy DeVito for nothing and just let him do that?
Don Hahn
Have a season where, just in case something happens to Wilson, your quarterbacks are Dart and DeVito. You can't have that. You got to have somebody.
Alan Hahn
Why just resume?
Don Hahn
No, just experience. You gotta have so many. The jets have Zach Wilson and Mike White. Like, you can't do that.
Peter Rosenberg
You're not gonna have two quarterbacks on the roster. Right. So let's just say, for sake of argument, are you gonna have two owners? Let's say Wilson, they cut Winston because we want to keep DeVito and something happens to Wilson, God forbid, and he's out for the year. If you've got Dart and devito, they're gonna go out and get a veteran and what are they gonna get over for and how much is it gonna cost?
Alan Hahn
But here's the thing. I would have said, here's the thing. I would have said, here's. Here's what I'm pushing back on. If that were to happen, I would say in 2025, the way. The way quarterbacks are generally brought along these days, you end up going with Jackson Dart that. That's how great quarterbacks seem to develop these days.
Don Hahn
You're still missing the point, though. You're missing the point, which is what? Is having the backup who has experience and knows what he's doing. In case you get those games where Jackson darts head spinning and you got to get him out of there for his own good.
Peter Rosenberg
But we're both.
Don Hahn
You've got to have somebody that can handle.
Peter Rosenberg
But you both are overall missing the point of that. They signed those two before they traded into the version.
Don Hahn
Yes.
Peter Rosenberg
So now it's just a case of, like, who do you keep? And maybe what I find interesting. What would happen if, say, week one, Stafford re. Injures himself, can't go, oh, yeah. And the Rams call and say, we want Jameis Winston, we'll give you a third round pick. What do you do? Like, do you now trade, get the third round pick and then go just find another quarterback? Or do you say, no, we still see value in Winston, we're going to say no, no, you're going to take the third round pick.
Don Hahn
Absolutely.
Peter Rosenberg
And then go Find another veteran quarterback. So it's a nice problem to have. Listen, losing DeVito, it was a great story, and I think he's a great kid and I think he's an excellent.
Don Hahn
Backup quarterback and he's in a good place in New England.
Peter Rosenberg
But if I'm going to have to go out and get a veteran anyway, because I'm not going to have two youngsters be my whole quarterback, then I might as well just hold on to Winston. And I'm sure Winston was probably told when they got him this is our plan. And the fact that he's acted the way that he's acted in camp, he's.
Don Hahn
Cool with this, right?
Peter Rosenberg
I think he is. He's at the stage of his career where. All right, listen, I'll play babysitter for a while and then at some point, like we were talking about with the contract, it's a very movable contract. So, like next year, he plays good soldier, helps his reputation out tremendously. Right? Plays it right. And then there's a. There's a landing spot for him next year somewhere there where my overall.
Alan Hahn
I'm fine with it all. My overall point was just what you said, though, Don, that at some point they didn't know what they were doing. At some point they weren't going to load this room with them and then go get a quarterback. There would have been another way to do this. That wouldn't have been Jameis Winston and Russell Wilson. There was some other version of this that they then decided, we're going to get Jackson Dart. And now it sort of makes it weird because now we have to put Jameis Winston in street clothes. The plan was not to put Jameis Winston in street clothes. I can't imagine.
Peter Rosenberg
I think that they probably felt there was a good chance they would draft a quarterback, but they. They couldn't know for sure. I wouldn't think they could trade back into the first round, get him a bait, maybe. Maybe.
Alan Hahn
And then know that he'd be as good as they think he is.
Peter Rosenberg
I guess they could have known, right? I guess they could have had that conversation. It doesn't really hurt them. It. What hurts them is they lost a veto, but I don't know how much they really believe that's not losing that.
Alan Hahn
But where did he sign? He signed.
Don Hahn
New England took him in the waivers. On waivers.
Alan Hahn
Got it.
Don Hahn
And they brought him in. But they were hoping if he cleared waivers, they would keep him. They would be happy to keep him, but they just think he played well enough in preseason that they didn't think he would.
Peter Rosenberg
In order for him to get to the practice squad, he had to clear waivers. So they were crossing their fingers and toes.
Don Hahn
But Winston has been a guy that after the fact, once they took dart, once they got into OTAs, and once they got into minicamp, once they got into training camp, and he, look, he's a bit goofy, but he's also not dumb. He knows what he's seeing. And he decided to embrace the, I just want to be here in New York. I'll do what you need me to do.
Alan Hahn
Oh, yeah.
Don Hahn
Because he probably sees Russell Wilson. There's a long game here for Winston, if you think about it. Because for Russell Wilson, there is no long game. He's the bridge. He's the hold the fort for now kind of guy. He won't be here after this year. Winston could be here for the next two, three years if he plays it the right way and continues to show the support. And when you, you know, in emergency, break glass, and I'm ready to go. But I think he might be at a point in his career where he knows who he is, and this might feel like just the most comfortable place for him to be. Cause they could have. He could have said, all right, you got this, kid. Move me. Get me out of here. But he never did. They seemed called about him. Teams called the Giants about him all summer, and the Giants said, we're not trading that.
Peter Rosenberg
That's why I said, if he wanted.
Don Hahn
Out, they would have traded him.
Peter Rosenberg
The reason he's been so cool with it is because I'm sure the Giants told him from the get go, this is what we're going to do. Yep. I think players only get mad at management when they're live.
Don Hahn
Yep, exactly.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, you're going to start, man. You're going to. You're going to get a ton of reps, and then all of a sudden, season starts, and now you're not dressed and you're like, what's going on? I think they were straight with him, and I think that. And they deserve credit if that were the case. Let's go to Dave and Elizabeth. You're on espn, New York. What's up, Dave?
Caller
What's going on, fellas? So, look, I'm gonna piggyback off what you guys said with the whole Steelers, jets thing. Yo, number one, this just me. Please don't, you know, kill me on some of these things. I'm about to hit you guys all right? Yeah. Nothing too crazy now. Nothing too crazy. I ain't gonna kill you, but look, this is my opinion on it. Yo, if you're a Die Hard jets fan, how are you missing opening day? Even when I'm broke and I don't have a job, I still find a way to be there. Okay, I get it. There's. Some people are gonna be. Oh, yeah, I did this because, you know, I'm making a couple extra dollars. You're not a Die Hard. And not for nothing, No, I would never sell my tickets.
Peter Rosenberg
Listen, I wouldn't either. Dave. Dave, but seriously, I don't know how much you make. You live in Elizabeth, so you're right down the street from MetLife Stadium. I mean, there are people coming from, like, Hampton Bays that drive, like, three hours with no traffic that are like, dude, I can make. I can make a killing on these tickets. I'm sorry. I can't judge you whether you're a Die Hard or not. If you're making a shrewd business decision, I'm sorry, I can't do that to people.
Caller
I agree. I agree. I agree with you.
Peter Rosenberg
Like, yeah, but you just said you wouldn't be a Die Hard. I disagree.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, it's situational. Don't you agree, Dave? It's got to be situational.
Caller
Yeah, definitely. But you, like. Like Han said, like you said, if you're coming all the way from Long island, like, some of the guys that they do, and they come all the way to MetLife, to Jersey, they pay the toll, all this, all that, and then they go back, you know, very disappointed after getting shellacked. I get it. But again, like I told Bart and Carlin, I'm optimistic, Dave. I'm. I'm optimistic about the team. I'm excited. I'm excited every year. Even when we stink, I'm excited. I love my organization. That's just me, you know? And I wouldn't pass up an opportunity to see my team, no matter who's on.
Peter Rosenberg
Listen, I. I was. I was with you, there's. Because you know what happens, Dave? And it happened to me. I can't speak for Peter, you know, growing up in Washington or Allen felt with the jets is that.
Don Hahn
My father.
Peter Rosenberg
Didn'T make a ton of money. But my father made an effort to get me to games. The one thing he couldn't do is get me to Giant games because there were literally no tickets available. And then finally, one of his friends, we had season tickets, took us to a preseason game against the Colts in 1980, and then he was able to take us to opening day against the Eagles that year. That was the first time I went at 12, I had already been to Yankee Stadium, Shea Stadium. I'd already been to the Garden. And that was my first time because there was literally no.
Don Hahn
And then my next time, my first jets game, my first NFL game, I was wearing a press credential.
Peter Rosenberg
Wow.
Don Hahn
Working for new.
Peter Rosenberg
That's not rare though, because again, it's hard.
Don Hahn
I've never, I'd never been like, I'd covered practices and stuff. I'd never been on an NFL field until the day I covered a game. And I wasn't even. I covered it for the Baltimore sun, by the way.
Peter Rosenberg
Okay.
Don Hahn
That was. That was the stringer for. For a game.
Peter Rosenberg
They're playing the Ravens and they were playing the Ravens.
Don Hahn
Yeah. And I. That was the first. I remember just being in the stadium, just going like, wow, this is what it's like. I've never been to a game. Like, it's so. I can relate more to that and the fact that there was zero chance that I was ever getting to an NFL game as a fan. As a kid, everything I did was watched on tv. So the season ticket holder thing, like I had, I never understood it because I didn't know that life. But the PSL thing has really thrown me through a loop because that makes me even more confused. And the more you hear from a lot of. The largest part of the fan base, I believe is still from Long Island.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, yeah, without question.
Don Hahn
And a lot of them have already been geographically, geographically pushed out, but now financially, no, it's.
Peter Rosenberg
It's a lot.
Don Hahn
And now if the team isn't giving you much to believe in, you want me to cross two bridges, tolls, parking, how much you're charging just to get in the damn building?
Peter Rosenberg
It's a lot. Yeah.
Don Hahn
You better give me a product that I'm believing in now.
Peter Rosenberg
When my dad took me in 80, the next giant game I went to was the game against the Niners in the wild card round. They beat them in 85.
Don Hahn
Wow.
Peter Rosenberg
And I took my dad. It was like a proud moment for me. So 1985, I was 17. I just got my driver's license. My girlfriend worked at a ticket agency who's now my wife, Nancy. She got the tickets I bought them from and I took my dad. It was like a proud moment for me. Drove everything, went to the game, they beat that they beat the Niners, but that's five year gap. Die hard Giant fan. Never missed a game. First game, 1980, wasn't until 85 and the next game was 86. My brother and I Cowboys in town. We just went to the parking lot, didn't have tickets, just walked around and I bought a ticket from somebody. You know what I did? I stationed myself right at the park where you paid for parking. So people. I just held up a sign. Need a ticket?
Don Hahn
No.
Peter Rosenberg
A lot. A lot of times you wait, you.
Don Hahn
Were a sign guy.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, you had a sign. And the thing is, you know, the sign guy is the guy that probably is selling tickets. I need a ticket. I got a ticket. My brother got a ticket. Later on, separate. So we just stood in the mezzanine and watched Giants.
Don Hahn
You just want to be in the building.
Peter Rosenberg
The Cowboys, you just want to be in the building. So I'm an in the building guy. I would not give her the tickets. I love going, but again, I can't begrudge anybody that wants to make a dime. What was your first game? Do you remember?
Alan Hahn
So, yeah, I went to Redskins. Games were so impossible as a kid. I bet I went to two as a child. And then by the time I got to college and they weren't good anymore, I could start getting like, scalpers tickets or whatever. And then, of course, eventually it became nothing. But when I was a kid, actually, you guys will remember during the. During the scab season, I went to the Nightmare Jets, Redskins 3 nothing game. You remember that game?
Peter Rosenberg
Was that your first game?
Don Hahn
Yes.
Peter Rosenberg
So that's 87.
Alan Hahn
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
So you were 8 and you stayed a fan.
Alan Hahn
And they won the super bowl that year, so, you know, it turned out cool. But that game was horrible.
Don Hahn
Oh, God.
Alan Hahn
I went to it, by the way. I think I went to two, three nothing Jets, Redskin games. Oh, they've played some doozies over the years. So when those two get together, playing.
Don Hahn
Each other, never invite me.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, forget it. Exactly.
Peter Rosenberg
Well said. I forget. I forget the players. Somebody. Ira's on hold. Hilton. I remember the. If I remember the other three nothing Redskin game more recently, probably, but like mid-90s, was there a snap that went off of, like, the holder's helmet?
Alan Hahn
Is it possible it's early 2000s, not 90s? Because I feel like I went to another one in the. In the early 2000. Like here when I, like when I visited my brother.
Peter Rosenberg
Okay. Because the one I remember, it was like, I don't know. Ira will remember because he remembers all these things. Ira, Staten island, you're on espn New York. What's up? Bye. You know the game I'm talking about.
Caller
Saturday afternoon in Washington, 1993. Oh, 93 and 93. And I'll never forget it. They snapped the ball. I think Boomer might have been holding it. Went off his helmet. I. You know, I think.
Peter Rosenberg
But they won the game. Didn't they win the game?
Caller
They won the game. 3 nothing. All right, so.
Alan Hahn
So I think I have it backwards then. So they. They played. There are two, three nothings. But the first one, they played one in 78, it looks like. Oh, no, no. Sorry, sorry. I'm looking at the scores wrong. Here it is 93. There it is 3. I guess that was the one I went to. I guess it was 93.
Caller
Oh. So. You okay? Yeah. That was a Saturday afternoon at Washington.
Alan Hahn
December 11, 1993. Like you dream about.
Caller
Absolutely awful. And that was the year that the jets choked up in Buffalo Carrie Blanche and missed field goals. They should have made the playoffs that year.
Peter Rosenberg
But so, just so I remember, because I'm doing it, swear to God, I'm going to sound like Dave Rothenberg. I'm not looking anything up. But wasn't the punter the hole? Was that Ag. Was it Aggie? How do it begin? Agadar.
Don Hahn
Aguilar.
Peter Rosenberg
Aguilar. Was Aguilar the holder?
Caller
He might have been Louis. I mean, so I'm not looking it up either. It's just. It's a long time ago. I think so. But, you know, just two things. You know, I'm excited about this weekend. I get people selling tickets. They're not Die Hard. And by the way, it's disappointing. The game's not even sold out. You go on ticket match, you get tickets. Which is embarrassing. But you know, listen, I'm hoping for the best, but I can't go against Tomlin Rodgers. But I'm really calling about Jackson Dart and Don and any Giants fan out there. You know what you do not Listen, I've seen the jets room, too many quarterbacks. I don't care if he's ready. Tom Brady just put out a statement. I think I read it over the weekend. It's all about all these kids are athletically gifted. It's all about the mental part. And the longer the Giants could restrain and hold this kid from playing, the better off they'll be. And when that time comes, this kid's gonna be a star in this league.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, from your lips to God's ears. As a talk show host on the other stage, he used to say, I'd like to see that happen. I think they're handling it exactly, exactly the right way. Again, I can't go where Ira went. You're not a Die Hard if you Sell your tickets. I should have asked Ira. Like, how much would it cost?
Alan Hahn
Ira, literally, it's his entire life. I mean, there are other people. It means a lot to them, but they got kids doing stuff, and it's just too much.
Don Hahn
Could you argue, though, that there are levels to Die Hard fans?
Peter Rosenberg
For sure.
Alan Hahn
Like, I was the highest level, but there's also.
Don Hahn
That's like elite. When you say elite, you can't have like 100 people in that group. It's like five. So when you are the Die Hard of the Die Hards, that's how you are. I don't care how much you're offering for this ticket. I'm not selling it.
Peter Rosenberg
But would you also accept the fact that those are levels of intelligence to a Die Hard? Like. Like, if you're. If. If you can't, you don't. You don't know. You don't know where your next. You're not sure if you're gonna be able to make rent.
Don Hahn
Yes.
Peter Rosenberg
All right. And you're living paycheck to paycheck, and somebody offers you 500 bucks for your tickets and you say, no, I've got to question your ability to speak and understand things. All right, so, yeah, you're a Die Hard, but, like, dude, man, you're close to being homeless and somebody's gonna hand you 500 bucks. Come on. What are you doing?
Don Hahn
Listen.
Peter Rosenberg
What?
Don Hahn
Just put a bow on the jets season because the Giant season is all about Jackson Dart, right? It's about at some point, what does the front seven look like? And Jackson Dart, Those are the things that you're. That you're focused on the most for the Jets. Is it really Justin Fields? Is it when, not if. Are you trading Breece hall, who the fan base loves but knows there's an excess in running back? And this is about filling as many holes in that roster as you can. And you got to get draft picks to do it. And if Breece hall can give you something before the trade deadline, you might have to do that.
Alan Hahn
True.
Don Hahn
Like, those are the storylines that I'm.
Peter Rosenberg
For me, if I'm a Jet fan, what I'm looking for, the most important thing I got to find out this year, do I have a coach? Can he coach?
Don Hahn
Are you going to know that this year?
Peter Rosenberg
Well, you get. Well, you could also. You won't know how good, but you could know how bad, like, if he lost. Right.
Don Hahn
That's a great way to put it. We learned quickly. On guys like Gase.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Don Hahn
On guys like not McAdoo.
Peter Rosenberg
But no judge.
Don Hahn
Judge for sure. Like there's certain coaches that it didn't take long. Oh, yeah, this is.
Peter Rosenberg
This isn't. And that's what you want to see. Do I have a coach? He's holding players accountable, or he just doesn't have the talent or the team's just not good enough. But that's what I'd like to find out. Because really, that's all about. I don't think anybody thinks Justin Fields is going to become the next franchise quarterback. You're hoping you got the coach. If you got the coach, then you got to try to get the quarterback. You're looking for both. You completely lost. It's Tuesday, even though everybody in the world probably thinks it's Monday. But it is Tuesday and it's talk about it Tuesday and it's coming up next year. I on Don Han and Rosenberg on.

I keep ripping this. I keep thinking I'm done and ripping and crumpling this.

Alan Hahn
What are you. What are you guys in the mood for? I mean, the beautiful thing I talk about it is Tuesday. It could be anything.
Peter Rosenberg
That's right.
Don Hahn
Well, can I just now put a bow on your accusations about not just tall people, but dads who like to put children?
Alan Hahn
I said earlier when I was at Paris Disney, the one thing Natalie really cared about was me getting some good footage of her and the baby while the fireworks were going off from the castle at Disney.
Don Hahn
Sure.
Alan Hahn
And I could not get an angle because of the amount. Really just a handful of yo yo dads with relatively big kids up on their shoulders. And Don, if you're standing within like seven feet behind them, nothing. You're just staring at backs, you've lost. You've lost any hope. And these. This crowd is gigantic. It's like a concert crowd. Like it's. It goes all the way back and there's really nowhere to go. And they wait till it's about to start. So you don't know what's happening. You're in your position already. Here come the fireworks. Up on the shoulder, moron. I can't see. I'm standing right behind you. Understand? Practically a small person. What am I supposed to do now? Your defense?
Don Hahn
You got there late. That's a you problem.
Alan Hahn
What do you mean? I wasn't in the back. I'm in the middle of the hallway.
Don Hahn
You said you were behind him.
Alan Hahn
Being later than them. Yeah, so I have to be ahead of every person who decides they might want to lift a child.
Don Hahn
Well, first of all, the lift the child thing is a tradition that has begun since 19. What was it, 1970? Whatever year it was at Walt Disney World opened. It's just what dads do. I. My dad, who was 6 foot 8, put me on his shoulders at Disney.
Alan Hahn
That's not even reasonable. And by the way, you were 6 foot 8 at the time.
Don Hahn
No, I was not.
Alan Hahn
So that you're 15ft tall?
Don Hahn
No, no, it doesn't. But it's not the height thing that there's. Tall dads, small dads, big dads, skinny dads, all of it. They all. It's just a thing. It's an instinct, a reaction. You reach down to that toddler, or the. In this case, by the waist, throw them up over your shoulders. They know exactly how to hold on. It's an instinct children have. And you both look up and watch, and it's just. It's a moment.
Alan Hahn
I hear you.
Don Hahn
It's a moment. And it's just something that is tradition. And it's not being. It's not being inconsiderate. I don't even have you in my mind. Because I'm in.
Alan Hahn
Considerate.
Don Hahn
No, it is not inconsiderate. I am not purposely saying, screw this guy. You're not in my world right now. Because I'm in a moment.
Alan Hahn
Because you're not considering other people.
Don Hahn
I just. I'm in a. I'm with my child and we're having this moment.
Alan Hahn
Right?
Peter Rosenberg
There are other people in the world, Alan.
Alan Hahn
That's great, but hold on.
Peter Rosenberg
Apparently it's not that.
Alan Hahn
By the way, I've never heard someone explain not being inconsiderate while laying out they were being 100% inconsiderate because you're not.
Don Hahn
You're being considerate. Inconsiderate is when you know you're doing something and do it anyway.
Alan Hahn
No, that's not. That's being a bad guy.
Peter Rosenberg
These aren't.
Don Hahn
This is just. This is an oblivious. Like just a mine. It's an instinct to pick the child.
Peter Rosenberg
Put on your shoulder.
Don Hahn
Just look and look up.
Peter Rosenberg
Maybe I'm blocking somebody.
Alan Hahn
What about my baby? You can't see fireworks for the first time.
Don Hahn
To be fair.
Alan Hahn
Second time, she had a big summer.
Don Hahn
In. In fairness, your child barely can see these fireworks because of her age. Understand that that's not like. Hold on.
Alan Hahn
Actually, you know, I've done the research. At seven and a half months, they got everything full.
Don Hahn
Everything. All right.
Peter Rosenberg
Joel, can Newton's son like climbing stairs at first four months or something?
Alan Hahn
All right, well, that's Cam Newton.
Peter Rosenberg
Now.
Don Hahn
Just for full. Just a. Just for full disclosure. Because I'm so self aware of my height, I never stand in the front because I know that when I put Emma, Zach, Gracie, Callie on my shoulders at something like this, I'm usually in the back because I know nobody's getting in their way. They'll be able to see clearly, and it's not here for me. I don't care if someone's in my way. I don't need to see it.
Peter Rosenberg
Right.
Alan Hahn
You don't care about the fireworks.
Don Hahn
So I don't do that just out of awareness. Because growing up as a kid whose parents. We went to church every Sunday, and my 6 foot 8 dad always wanted to be in the front row. And I hated it because I felt like we're blocking everybody. Dad, you know, my sister's 6:1, I'm 6:4 when I'm 14, my mother's 5:10. Why are we in the front row? This makes no sense. So I grew up with the awareness of don't do that. But I'm telling you that it's not. I don't. It's just a feeling like.
Peter Rosenberg
But.
Don Hahn
No, no, but I just want to. You're gonna do it to my. You're gonna pick up my shoulders and forget like that you just had this conversation.
Alan Hahn
Unfortunately, I'm so short, I probably still won't block anyone. But all I'm saying is think about people a little bit. And furthermore, the people at the. At the things like Disney fireworks, who. So after I gave up on this, I got to see another kind of person that drives me nuts. All right, Natalie, let's get out of the way. Let's go to the back because I told her from the beginning, we should go to the back. It's gonna be too much. So we start trying to get out so we can get to the back where we'll be further away, but at least we'll be able to see out first. Out first. And if you're far enough back, it doesn't matter if people have their kids on their shoulder. You're so far back, you see over them. Okay, so on our way out, Natalie's trying to push the stroller out and she like sort of bumps into a gentleman's foot and he gives her sort of an annoyed look like she's disturbing him. Because a grown 50 year old man, not with child, is just filming the fireworks on his phone and doesn't want to mess up the video. Get out. He doesn't want to have a shaky video of the fireworks. Can you let the woman with the infant and the stroller out? What are we doing here, people?
Peter Rosenberg
Who wants to watch your fireworks?
Alan Hahn
When are you watching the video of the fire?
Peter Rosenberg
No, fireworks are cool, man, but you can't help but see them. No, like during the summertime, like every Patriot game I go to, they have one at the end. Yeah, they're just happening all the. On a loop. During the summer.
Don Hahn
Yeah. It used to be like in the 70s, fireworks were kind of a little more of a rare occasion.
Alan Hahn
This.
Don Hahn
You can go to a random, right? A Long Island Ducks game and fireworks. Like everybody sees fireworks. Now there's fireworks every week at Oheka castle. Every Saturday, 9:30 every time now. So this, this is. I'm on your side with this one because anybody now around him, when he comes home and he goes, oh, I'm gonna screen. What is it called? The screen thing on my tv, let's all sit around and watch the fireworks from Disney is. Everybody's like, oh, I got. No, I gotta go.
Alan Hahn
Nobody wants to watch. It's worse than that. He's never even gonna say that. He's not even. Remember he has it. It's just a file on his.
Peter Rosenberg
Gonna delete it.
Alan Hahn
You're gonna delete it. It's the same as people. I went to Bad Bunny, there was a girl next to me, God bless her. You're filming all of every song. You're going to sit down. Or is she.
Don Hahn
Or did she.
Alan Hahn
No, she wasn't live streaming. And that's even crazier.
Don Hahn
Yes.
Alan Hahn
What are you doing?
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, you paid a lot of money.
Alan Hahn
To see Bad Bunny. Enjoy the concert, for God's sake.
Don Hahn
No.
Alan Hahn
And then while I'm. I knew and you guys knew this was coming. You know, it was a given that once Peter Rosenberg became a dad, he would have all the dad complaints. I know, it's like almost embarrassingly typical of me. We go to Le Galeries Lafayette, the big fancy. It's like Barney's kind of in Paris, but it's beautiful. The inside's amazing. And it's like this gallery and it's got all the fancy stores. And we're inside. They have an elevator. It says specifically because you can use escalators and you can use stairs. It's like six floors, this department store. The elevators are small and there's multiple signs that in English and say French and in French say elevators reserved for disabled people and strollers. Every time the elevator opens, it's filled with 26 year old able bodied Frenchmen and women. I'm like, you see us with the stroller. This is our only way to do it. I'm not carrying the stroller up four flights of stairs. It's crazy what's happening out here, folks. Yeah, it's crazy. And I'm excited to complain about every one of these things as they happen.
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
And we're here for it because I'm talking about dad.
Alan Hahn
And now it's my time to complain.
Peter Rosenberg
What do you got today, Alan?
Don Hahn
I was just, I was just responding to, you know, condemning fathers who like to pick up their children and put them on their shoulders. That's a, it's a broad, that's a tradition.
Alan Hahn
It really is.
Peter Rosenberg
I, I, this goes back to when I was on vacation. So I've been itching to talk about this, this, and it's been happening forever. And I wish somebody can at least acknowledge and, and hopefully experience the same thing. We went to Penn and Teller a couple of weeks ago.
Alan Hahn
Okay.
Don Hahn
Oh, boy.
Peter Rosenberg
And the show's at 8:00'.
Don Hahn
Clock.
Peter Rosenberg
The show ended like at 10:40. And I'm looking at my watch on Nancy's got to go to the bathroom. Kids got to go to the bathroom. Got to get the car out of the lot. I'm, I'm looking at the clock. Please let me get out of the city before 11 o'.
Alan Hahn
Clock.
Peter Rosenberg
Can't get out of the city 11 o'. Clock. The city is in lockdown after 11 o'.
Alan Hahn
Clock.
Peter Rosenberg
You cannot get out of the city. They'll close the Lincoln tunnel down to one lane. They'll have you snake through like 10 blocks to be able to get to the Lincoln Tunnel. And unfortunately, Google Map or whatever, I can't keep up with all the closures. So I'm following them. Maybe I can sneak a different way. Go up 10th Avenue, make a left on the 41st, go back down, and then there's cones. I gotta go back around. All to just eventually get two blocks away, but have to navigate through 10 blocks of all these closures to eventually. It takes two hours to get out of the city. It's ridiculous. Why 11 o'? Clock? People go to Broadway shows. People go.
Alan Hahn
11 is not late enough.
Peter Rosenberg
11 o' clock is not late enough. Man, if you wait till midnight, then I get. I understand you gotta do construction. And the only way to do it is during the overnight. You gotta get it done before you get to the morning. But to think that you could spend the night out in the city to be able to go to plays, to be able to go to shows, to go to dinner and expect to be done by 11 o'.
Caller
Clock.
Peter Rosenberg
It's way too damn early.
Alan Hahn
Let me ask you a question. What night of the week was this? Thursday.
Don Hahn
Which is.
Peter Rosenberg
Which is pretty. We can adjace.
Alan Hahn
We can adjace. And they need. Because honestly, even midnight's cutting close. It really should be like 1am but then I guess their view is they only get them what, like five hours before 6am I get it. Sorry, what do you suppose? You're right. It's insane.
Peter Rosenberg
Now they probably think, well then I'm sure I'm gonna get the tweet all done. Why didn't you take public transportation? I should really able to. I've got the kids. We took the kids to Penn and Teller. Cause they're fans. So we got the minivan going. They are. Cause they watch the. Was it the fool us.
Alan Hahn
They like magic. Oh, they like magic.
Peter Rosenberg
It's a little on the edgy side.
Alan Hahn
Penitentello was big with seven year olds.
Peter Rosenberg
But there's a lot of kids there. Believe it.
Alan Hahn
Really?
Peter Rosenberg
Well, because I could tell because they would. They had tons of volunteers. I was trying to get Jalen and Marco, but they were too shy to go up on the stage. And you see there's kids like ranging from like five to.
Alan Hahn
Magic is a thing. Kids love magic. Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
And it's. It's summertime and. And I just could not believe it took two hours to get out of the city. And this happens because whenever there was a Ranger game at 8 o'. Clock, by the time I finished the post game, I knew I was in for like two hours. Like you can't physically get out of the city. It's ridiculous.
Alan Hahn
It's not Good. It's not. What happened to the congestion price and fixing everything? It didn't work.
Peter Rosenberg
Nothing fixed. Anything.
Don Hahn
No.
Alan Hahn
They do say the Van Wick construction's ending after a hundred years. That's what that.
Peter Rosenberg
That's what they say about the construction downstairs. That's been going on since March.
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
When's that gonna end? Like 30. Also very interesting. Maybe just because I'm an old man at Penn and Teller sitting in front of me is to Cavett, like, I was like, that's pretty awesome. And he was really nice.
Alan Hahn
What a don text that was.
Peter Rosenberg
Why is that?
Don Hahn
He's a legend.
Peter Rosenberg
I know he's 86 years old, and I texted people, but nobody knows who he is. And Alan apparently has got a problem with him because Alan texts back, I'm good.
Alan Hahn
How could you have a problem with Dick Cabot?
Don Hahn
Doesn't suggest I have a problem.
Peter Rosenberg
No, it does.
Don Hahn
Means I'm all set.
Peter Rosenberg
Just let it go. But when you text, you physically made the effort to take. I'm good.
Alan Hahn
No, that's.
Peter Rosenberg
So there's got to be a story.
Alan Hahn
I. I love that, by the way. It's just the most daunting think about people listening out there. Think about how dawn this is. Not only does he say, hey, I'm at Penn and Teller already. The most dawn thing of all time. You never believe he's sitting in front of me.
Don Hahn
Dick Cavett was in a Grand Puba Lyric, though, so at least he's got that.
Alan Hahn
That's true.
Don Hahn
There is some fame.
Peter Rosenberg
And Penn and Teller were in a Run DMC video.
Alan Hahn
I forgot about that. So both have their hip hop ties.
Peter Rosenberg
And Greg Buttle was in Tougher than Leather.
Alan Hahn
Oh, my.
Peter Rosenberg
How about that? But if he's a legend. But all right, that's fine. But here's the. I'm sorry. Go ahead.
Don Hahn
You had some more.
Peter Rosenberg
I'm sorry.
Don Hahn
Keep boring me. I was.
Peter Rosenberg
I was gonna throw it's all around the Penn and Teller. So because I've got fat hands, I screwed something up. I got an extra ticket to Penn and Teller.
Alan Hahn
Okay.
Peter Rosenberg
But it wasn't where we were sitting. It was like in the Pit, and I couldn't get rid of it. Penn and Teller wouldn't allow any. Any sales of the tickets. I. I had to eat the ticket. So I was explaining it to the ushers. I was showing the tickets on my phone. A woman overhears that I had an extra ticket, but we're already in the building, so what would it matter? Sit down in my seat. This woman comes over and Says, I heard you have an extra ticket. Would I. I. Would you mind if somebody I know can sit in a ticket? Sit. Sit in the seat. Yeah. I'm not using it, you know. And she goes, I'm. I'm Emily Gillette. I'm Penn's wife, and we have family here. And I already probably.
Alan Hahn
Right.
Peter Rosenberg
So could. Could. I'm like, yeah. And she goes, take down my number. Next time you're in Vegas, I'll comp you tickets. And I'm like, I'm gonna take you up on it because I'm gonna be in Vegas when the Devils are there. And I've got like two days off before the game. I'm going, I'm hooked up.
Don Hahn
Works out okay.
Peter Rosenberg
This is all hooked up. I love where this color Vegas. It's awesome, right? I got her photo. She's totally nice. She's the one to point out. You see that the cabin sitting in front of you. Very, very nice.
Alan Hahn
And by the way, if this story ends with Don having an affair with Penn Jillette's wife, can you imagine?
Peter Rosenberg
So I'm like, in Vegas.
Alan Hahn
This is worth.
Peter Rosenberg
Was worth buying a ticket and nobody's gonna.
Alan Hahn
Oh, yeah. Now you're. By the way, you'll end up being friends with. With. With Penn and totally her.
Peter Rosenberg
Totally legit. I'm in hot. Yeah. Not. I mean, for. For her again.
Don Hahn
Oh, here we go.
Peter Rosenberg
She's probably. I don't want to guess age, you.
Alan Hahn
Know, late 60s, something like that.
Peter Rosenberg
She's around Penn's age.
Alan Hahn
Got it.
Peter Rosenberg
Okay. All right. But she's very, very attractive, very nice.
Alan Hahn
Okay.
Peter Rosenberg
And so I got her phone number. I'm it. NHL. The. The Devil's National.
Alan Hahn
How'd you give her the ticket, by the way? How'd you give her the ticket?
Peter Rosenberg
She just took a picture of it off my phone. She knew where the person could scout.
Don Hahn
Okay, I know what's coming here.
Alan Hahn
Oh, no.
Peter Rosenberg
I'm now not in Vegas because that's a nationally televised game. We were gonna fly. The Devils are home against Colorado on a Sunday afternoon. After the game, we were gonna fly to Vegas. Monday in Vegas off Tuesday in Vegas.
Alan Hahn
Wednesday night game.
Peter Rosenberg
All right. Wednesday night game to. Now me not going at all. Which normally I'd be like, all right, at least I'm home. But I. Now you miss out, she gonna remember like next year. No, she's not going to remember that.
Don Hahn
No idea.
Alan Hahn
What about a little. Little Greco family vacation? Little wintertime trip out to Vegas? Like they like. Like the boys, you know what I mean? Get a Nice meal. Take the kids to Penn and Teller.
Don Hahn
I mean that's a lot.
Alan Hahn
It's a lot, but it's done.
Don Hahn
I feel like you've got a couple of months before this disappears from her front of her mind.
Alan Hahn
There's only one trip out there, right?
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Alan Hahn
The other game will be here. So that's not.
Peter Rosenberg
No. Yeah, but it would, it was perfect. What am I gonna do? What am I gonna do with all these days off? I'm gonna do the show early, right? Cause of the time difference and I'd be off the air at 4 o'.
Alan Hahn
Clock.
Peter Rosenberg
I'd have nothing to do.
Alan Hahn
Perfect.
Peter Rosenberg
Go watch fool us, hang out, get Compton. And I'm sure she would take me backstage to meet him and everything to now nothing eggs except a pleasant conversation.
Don Hahn
That's what you get for being a nice guy.
Peter Rosenberg
And I got to talk to Dick Cavett. I said I enjoy your.
Alan Hahn
And the craziest part of it all is Emily Gillette actually put Dick Cavett on her shoulders to watch the show. Don couldn't see a thing.
Peter Rosenberg
And I said to Dick, I enjoy your work. I, I, I enjoy your work, sir. And then, and then he said, so you're the one. So I thought that was.
Alan Hahn
Oh, that's neat.
Peter Rosenberg
He's a legend. I'm really disgusted with the people I work today.
Don Hahn
Especially enjoyed your work.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, because he's retired now. What am I going to enjoy? Your walking.
Don Hahn
But you said enjoy your work. You, I'm sure you said enjoyed your work. Don't.
Peter Rosenberg
You know what, what the money shot was the fact that I said, I said it twice for the humor. I thought it was pretty. He's now dissecting that I. My tense was wrong.
Alan Hahn
Well, guess what? That's. Let's talk about it Tuesday, everybody. Today I'm done with everybody. Visit betterhelp.com timeout today for 10% off your first month of therapy.

Alan Hahn
Oh, yeah, you were. You were.
Peter Rosenberg
You did.
Alan Hahn
You were big last.
Peter Rosenberg
I already made my pick. I'm not going to reveal it yet. We'll do that on Friday.
Don Hahn
Are we. Are we a show that equally despises the Eagles, right?
Alan Hahn
I made a spice.
Peter Rosenberg
We do.
Don Hahn
I don't hate them, but I don't. I don't love the vibe that comes out of there. Well, you know what I mean.
Peter Rosenberg
He's already behind us because we legitimately.
Don Hahn
Yeah, it's just like there's something about what they've become with Sirianni that, like, you just. I want to respect them. But then things happen. You're like, oh, come on. Like, Peter would call it Nosley behavior. Did you see what Sirianni said? So Thursday Night Football, you'll have Eagles, Cowboys, and it's in Philadelphia, and they won the Super Bowl. So what are they going to do? Of course. Reveal a new championship banner. Sirianni. The Eagles will not be on the field for this ceremony. And Sirianni. No, not you, Siri. My phone's confused. I get it. He said this. I didn't know it was a banner night. We won't be out for that. End quote. First of all, I didn't know it was a banner night. You won the Super Bowl.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Don Hahn
When were you gonna think the opening home, opening game was going to, like, for, like, doesn't that feel disingenuous to say that is as if, like, you're pretending the rest of us are morons. We're like, oh, really? You didn't know. It makes sense. No, it doesn't make sense. You knew, but you want the world to know. We're so focused on this year, we're not looking back at last year. I get it.
Peter Rosenberg
Whatever.
Don Hahn
It's only in football do you get stuff like this.
Peter Rosenberg
It's right stupid. And I wonder this. See if you guys agree with me whenever I. Not that I criticize Hertz, but whenever I said he's not elite quarterback or he's not in the top five quarterbacks, we get. We get calls. Oh, yeah, We've openly called their coach a tool.
Alan Hahn
No one says it. No one says.
Peter Rosenberg
I'm wondering if Eagle fans also think that their coach is a tool.
Don Hahn
Oh, yeah, you got it.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, I don't.
Alan Hahn
I don't think a lot.
Peter Rosenberg
I know he won you a Super bowl, and I'm not saying he's a bad coach, but I just wonder if they kind of agree. Like, they're probably like, yeah, he's a.
Don Hahn
Tool, but he's one of.
Peter Rosenberg
He's one of them. He's our tool. He's our tool.
Don Hahn
He's our.
Alan Hahn
I. I totally believe that that is the logic they have. I don't think any Eagle fan is like, I just love Sirianni. In fact, they're probably sick of them by the end. But if they could choose, they probably wish it would have happened with Reed and not.
Peter Rosenberg
Why not? Why wouldn't you?
Alan Hahn
That's what. That's what you.
Peter Rosenberg
He's irritating with the commercials, but that just. I blame that on Kansas City, actually. I blame it on Mahomes.
Don Hahn
I blame it on State Farm.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, they're just trying to make a buck.
Alan Hahn
Isn't that what everyone's trying to do?
Peter Rosenberg
True. As we come full circle with our conversation, Jeff in East Windsor, you're on ESPN New York. What's up, Jeff?
Alan Hahn
Hey, how you guys doing?
Caller
Thanks for taking a call. Big fan.
Peter Rosenberg
Cool, man.
Alan Hahn
I. I actually have a little bit.
Caller
Opposite take for the jets tickets thing. I used to have season tickets and I gave them up and now only go to the home opener.
Peter Rosenberg
And why? Just because you're. You're always hyped for the first game.
Caller
Well, it's the nicest weather of the year if having I had season tickets.
Alan Hahn
I'm 43.
Caller
I had a share when I was a teenager, and then I took them over from my dad and his buddy.
Peter Rosenberg
So I had him for basically 30 years.
Caller
And the jets are not very good.
Peter Rosenberg
Going to a game in crummy weather.
Caller
In December and you can't sell those.
Peter Rosenberg
Tickets for anything, so you'd lose money every year.
Caller
I'd rather just pay the money up front for the season opener.
Don Hahn
You're.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh. And oh, everybody feels good in the parking lot.
Caller
Tailgates are good, weather is good.
Peter Rosenberg
Right.
Caller
And you know, you might catch a team off guard and steal a win.
Peter Rosenberg
But if for the right price, would you sell your opening day tickets?
Caller
Yes, I would.
Don Hahn
So see, here's why the jets haven't have only won two of their last nine season openers. The Giants are one. What are they, one in seven in their last.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, they got awful. And one of the ways.
Don Hahn
This is why you sell these tickets because, you know, most of the time they ain't winning this game.
Peter Rosenberg
And. And even when they win like that miracle win against the Bills. What did he mean?
Don Hahn
Oh, it was so depressing.
Peter Rosenberg
It was like the best moment of the season. But it wasn't a great season.
Don Hahn

Useless.
Don Hahn
But at least you won the lottery. That's great.

This episode dives deep into the latest shakeups in New York football, focusing on the Giants' quarterback depth chart where rookie Jackson Dart lands as QB2, the implications for veterans like Jameis Winston, and the broader landscape of roster management and fan loyalty. In the latter half, the team brings their trademark blend of humor and kvetching to "Talk About It Tuesday," with spirited rants about sports fandom, parenting at public events, transportation in NYC, and urban pet peeves.
"This keeps him locked in. It's the smarter thing to do." — Don ([02:29])
"Winston is a pro, is a vet, he can handle it." — Don ([02:47])
"If Wilson zigs instead of zags on a play, guess what? Jackson Dart, you're starting quarterback now. He's earned it." — Don ([01:26])
"You're not going to have two quarterbacks on the roster. If something happens to Wilson … they're gonna go out and get a veteran and what are they gonna get over for and how much is it gonna cost?" — Peter ([05:05])
"He's at the stage of his career where…I'll play babysitter for a while … and then there's a landing spot for him next year somewhere." — Peter ([07:05])
"I can't judge you whether you're a Die Hard or not. If you're making a shrewd business decision." — Peter ([11:08])
"If someone's gonna hand you $500 ... come on, what are you doing?" — Peter ([19:47])
"For me, if I'm a Jet fan, most important thing … Do I have a coach?" — Peter ([20:40])
A hilarious, relatable series of rants and banter:
Light, conversational, and often irreverent, the hosts blend solid football insight with personal anecdotes and banter. They tackle New York sports with skepticism, self-deprecating humor, and relatable frustration about real-life hassles.
For anyone who missed it, this episode is a classic Don, Hahn & Rosenberg ride — plenty of Giants/Jets depth, NFL roster logic, and the kind of New York gripes you only get from true locals.
