Don La Greca
Game time is brought to you by Tullamore Dew Irish Whiskey. Because when it's game time,
Peter Rosenberg
I like that it's poly time.
Don La Greca
Getting underway in mere moments. Diamondbacks and Mets like you dream of game two of the three game series. You can hear all the coverage on 880.
Alan Hahn
Big game for Peterson.
Don La Greca
I agree.
Alan Hahn
Come on, get right.
Don La Greca
Rangers host the Sabres. Coverage on 1050 starts at 6:30. Now the Yankees continue their series with the Athletics at 7:05 Tullimore Dew. The original triple distilled, triple blended and triple cast matured Irish Whiskey. Be sure to grab a Tullamore Dew or try the new Tullamore Dew. Honey. During today's action, glasses up to enjoying Tullamore do responsibly. Big hour. We had a lot going on.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, I like what we did there.
Don La Greca
We had a lot going on. Thanks to Monica for joining us. And we might actually have a golf idea for something during the course of the summer for people that despise golf like me, maybe we could still have some fun with it.
Alan Hahn
Would you do it? Call in, let us know.
Don La Greca
I'd love to do it.
Alan Hahn
We got to get some support behind it so that the, the powers that be hear it and say, you know what? Here's an idea that's worth following. Rickle Ball was a huge success. I went there, I checked it out. A lot of people came out. A lot of people played. It was a lot of fun. You know, can we, can we have our own version of this?
Don La Greca
Yeah, we're formulating it.
Alan Hahn
Part of it.
Don La Greca
Donny Golf.
Alan Hahn
Donny Golf. Ooh, Donnie Brook.
Don La Greca
It's a Donny Golf.
Alan Hahn
It's a Donny Golf.
Don La Greca
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
I'm not mad at this now.
Don La Greca
And here's the hint.
Peter Rosenberg
If you know your, if you actually know your handicap, you're probably too good for this tournament.
Don La Greca
Yeah, but it's not even about being good to me. Just that you. You like the competition of golf but despise everything around it.
Peter Rosenberg
Or not even you. No, no, I see. I don't like that. But I just want to push back.
Don La Greca
Not.
Peter Rosenberg
You like the competition of golf. You just enjoy getting out and playing golf.
Don La Greca
Right.
Peter Rosenberg
But. But you don't. But you don't need. You don't need the yo, yo, annoying country club culture that comes.
Don La Greca
If it wasn't such a tool culture. Go ahead. That you would say, you know what? I think I'd like to play golf, but I don't like the outfits, I don't like the people. I don't like the vibe. This would be for you because it's anti golf golf.
Alan Hahn
You know what? Right here, I got a great idea. Let's get on this salespeople. Planet Fitness is a sponsor. Why? Because what are they against in their gym?
Don La Greca
Their whole thing is a no judgment zone.
Alan Hahn
And it's the, it's the alarm. If they see somebody that's like the grunt guy, that's like, you know, would you bench, bro? And they're just grunting and slamming weights down, there's literally an alarm that goes off and they tell him, either you stop or you leave.
Don La Greca
Yeah.
Alan Hahn
Get out. We don't do that.
Peter Rosenberg
I love that.
Alan Hahn
And we kind of have that. If somebody starts golfing.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. If you start getting, you start doing golf.
Alan Hahn
If you become golfy.
Don La Greca
Yeah.
Alan Hahn
Sound an alarm.
Don La Greca
Yeah.
Alan Hahn
And you get punished.
Don La Greca
If you strokes off. If you start, you know, getting down on the green to see which way it go.
Alan Hahn
Oh. If you throw grass in the air. Out a little bit of grass. Throw it in the air. Oh, you're not. You're out. You don't get to hit.
Peter Rosenberg
Hold on, hold on. Did you say if you get that you're not even allowed to kneel and
Alan Hahn
try to look, read the green.
Don La Greca
No, you can't even. You gotta just go walk, take a look at it. We're gonna put a pitch clock.
Alan Hahn
Pitch clock on your putting. Shoot.
Don La Greca
I like that. You get, you, you get, you get strokes taken off your game. The quicker you shoot. Yeah. If it takes you half hour to make the putt. You know what? You just, you just bogeyed because you know what? It took too long.
Alan Hahn
I think the lunk alarm thing would be hilarious.
Peter Rosenberg
I love this.
Alan Hahn
Planet Fitness be part of this.
Don La Greca
It's all happening.
Alan Hahn
It's happening.
Don La Greca
1-800-9193776. We start off with Steve and New Fairfield. Who wants to disagree with me. You're on. Don Holland. Rosenberg.
Caller/Listener
What's up? Hey, what's up, Don? I don't take offense. It's just, like, similar to you, Al. I'm a Yankee Knick fan, so I have both ends of the spectrum.
Alan Hahn
Okay.
Caller/Listener
And I heard your secret for you.
Peter Rosenberg
Are you on a walkie talkie? Can you. Can you, like, turn your speaker off? You sound very far away.
Caller/Listener
Yeah, I'm just on the vegan handful.
Don La Greca
Loud.
Caller/Listener
I'm sorry.
Peter Rosenberg
Okay.
Caller/Listener
Just with the. You have said a couple times over the years, Don, you felt like the Nick fan was most optimistic? I don't think it's so much that. I just think, like, the fan base is so starved for championship that when we do get some crumbs, when we get these windows of success, it's like we're tantalized. There could be a big meal at the end. I don't, you know, I think it's perceived as being optimistic. But when Tim Hardaway Jr. Was our best player, I don't think there was much optimism.
Don La Greca
No, but it's a good pull. I do feel like. And I've been doing this for a long time, Steve, so believe it or not, long enough that where the jets were preparing for, you know, championship games, where, you know, the Mets were in the. In the playoffs and making deep runs, and the Islanders were making it to the third round, like teams that usually don't win, coming close to winning. And I feel like the Knick fan base, they're way more positive. They believe we're going to win this thing where the other fan base is seen to be a little bit more damaged, like, oh, I know we have a chance, but we never win these things. Like, there. There's optimism around fan bases for the most part, but I just feel like the Knick fan seems to be way more positive about their team.
Alan Hahn
They want to believe. They want every reason to believe, and they create heroes out of people that probably necessarily don't need to be heroes or can't live up to that hero status. I do think it happens, but I look flooding 7th Avenue with humans after a playoff win. Kind of gives it away, doesn't it? Like that. That does show. There's a little bit of, like, that kind of desperation to enjoy every moment, which I think is a great thing as a fan. Enjoy every moment.
Don La Greca
And that's why I'll give you. I'll give you a quick example to pop. All right. It's one of the most embarrassing things to happen to the radio station, but now we can go back and laugh at it. The jets go to the championship game in 2009 in Indianapolis. Our general manager at the time gets the idea. The jets are gonna have a pep rally in Times Square. Let's air the pep rally. And they got Michael K. To emcee it, which was odd, but still, he was our guy and he was gonna emcee the event. It was a complete dud.
Alan Hahn
Nobody there.
Don La Greca
There were people there. I remember Rich Catino, God love him.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, wow.
Don La Greca
Trying to get people to say, let's get a Jet chant. They wouldn't do it or couldn't do it. They kept going back to us because there was just nothing. Because the Jet fan was like, we have it.
Podcast Host (Don Hahn)
Here's today's Michael K. Show 20 flashback.
Alan Hahn
Now, Jet fans, are you ready for this AFC championship game? Yeah. Let's hear it. Let's hear it. How about a Jet chant? How about a Jet chant? And they are absolutely prepared. He tried to make it sound big.
Don La Greca
I'm not knocking the Jet fan. It's like the Jet fan was, like, nervous we might go to the Super Bowl.
Peter Rosenberg
We don't even know what this means.
Don La Greca
Meanwhile, Nick fans, after, like one win in the first round, they're taking to the streets. Yeah, like. And that's a Jet. You know, the jets haven't won a God knows how long.
Alan Hahn
Oh, I know how long.
Don La Greca
That was their first in 2009. That was their first championship game since 98.
Alan Hahn
It's 10 years.
Don La Greca
That's what I mean. That's the difference.
Alan Hahn
Only 10 years between championship games, Don. Only 10. We're now 15 years between playoff games.
Don La Greca
I know, but it just. I think the Knick fan is a little more positive. Speaking of the Knicks, there's Manny and Flushing. You're on espn. How are you, Manny?
Caller/Listener
What's up, guys? How y' all doing?
Alan Hahn
Good.
Caller/Listener
Yeah. Listen, I want to give a happy. Well, actually, happy belated. Well, I have two birthdays shout out to my twin brothers. They're 28 years old. And also a happy late birthday. 86 birthday to your boy Rosenberg. John Abrachek. I think he would have been 86 if he was alive today.
Peter Rosenberg
Respect. I don't know if I'd refer to as my boy. He's an 86 year old legend who's no longer. Anyways. But I appreciate that. Very cool.
Caller/Listener
Yes, yes. Listen, about the next. I mean, when Monica messed about this Giannis thing, it kind of hit me a lot because I thought that it was. I thought that the same thing. Because if we look at Giannis in the last few years he hasn't been healthy and the Bucs hasn't really been, you know, haven't been bidding competitive in the playoffs. I mean, the last three straight outside, you know, since the post championship won in 2021, they won one playoff series, which was against Chicago. And then, you know, the last three straight years he lose to Miami and then Indiana and ironically they, you know, those three straight years that the teams that beat the Bucks end up beating the Knicks and, and, and, and, and the, he and the Patriots reach the Finals. Go figure. But nonetheless, but, but seriously, do you really think. Yes. Is a, is a, is a better fit for Brunson
Don La Greca
a better than who you saying is he. You're going to have to do something if you get bounced in the first round, God forbid, are you going to not get Giannis because he's not a fit for Brunson?
Alan Hahn
I'll play the game. Okay. Is he a better fit? Is he a better fit meaning like out of any stars you can get or any of that stuff available stars. First of all, as I've said many times, seven years, he's a top five MVP candidate every year for seven years. This year it won't be all right, that is a fact. So he's one of the most talented, impactful players in the sport. He is also one of the best defensive players in the sport. He can guard any position. And when he is engaged, which he hasn't been the last two years because the team is stunk, but when he's engaged, he is a ferocious competitor. Ferocious competitor. He's a triple double machine. Now, can he spread the floor? Can he shoot threes?
Caller/Listener
No.
Alan Hahn
That's the part that you wonder, does that hurt? But he and Chris Middleton worked really well together. There was no, there was no issue there. Yeah, Middleton was a scorer, was a guy who could score on the perimeter and Giannis didn't affect him negatively. They won a championship. So yes, it can work because of the impact he'll have on the defensive end of the floor. He gives you size and length that you could certainly use. A guy is 6:10, 6:11, an incredible athlete who can start his own break. He'll make you play faster, so it'll work. And Jalen Brunson, by the way, a high IQ player who will figure it out with a player like that and
Peter Rosenberg
not a, and not a huge ego player.
Alan Hahn
So I don't want to pretend like he won't make them better. But what Monica was saying is fair, is. But what does it do to the roster and how do you compete in the east if it does mess up your roster to a point now where you can't compete? You don't have enough depth or have enough talent around those two to make it work. Because in Milwaukee, that kind of is what the problem was, is they lost some key pieces out of that deal and it just never worked. So it's a fair argument. But as I've said, if Giannis really wants to come here, and this is his only choice, and now he can say, I'm not signing an extension with any other team, you might not have to give up nearly as much. So we'll see where this goes when we get to the off season.
Don La Greca

Don La Greca
Just got some sad news. Davey Lopes has passed away at the age of 80.
Alan Hahn
Oh, wow.
Don La Greca
Former Los Angeles Dodger. Yeah, played for the Phillies. Played for other teams as well. But predominantly known as in those great 70 Dodger teams, no doubt. You know, win the World Series. Third base, first. No, second base. Second base. Second base.
Alan Hahn
Yeah.
Don La Greca
It's amazing. It's the kid in me. Because guys stayed there forever. Those Dodger teams, I can give you the whole infield. You had Steve Garvey. Garvey second. Russell at shortstop, say, was your first baseman. Jaeger was the catcher. You know, Dusty Baker was in the outfield. I mean they were so, so good. Of course. Beat the. Played The Yankees in 77 and 78,
Alan Hahn
lost to the Yankees starting pitcher, they had Tommy John. Right?
Don La Greca
Tommy John was a starting pitcher. You Don Sutton.
Alan Hahn
Sutton. That was the other. I was thinking about the hair. Yeah, he had the curly hair.
Don La Greca
And they eventually got the revenge in 1981.
Alan Hahn
Fernando Valenzuela.
Don La Greca
Yeah, Fernando Mania. But Lopes was such a good player, so he passed away at the age of 80. They were just showing that during the Met coverage today.
Alan Hahn
Some news in the NBA, when we're talking about the Knicks and the playoffs and all that stuff. Cade Cunningham back in the lineup tonight against the Bucks.
Don La Greca
How many they got left? Three, Two. So he gets three games under his belt.
Alan Hahn
He'll get. Yeah, at least one, if not three. Well, but the whole idea is back and there was some thought, well, could he miss some time in the playoffs? Could he miss the first round? Because you didn't know how long this was going to take. Collapse lung. It's really unpredictable. So the fact that he's playing tonight, big, that's a huge sign for Detroit, who, by the way, not only treaded water without him, they pretty much locked up the top seed in the east without him. That's always refusing to lose. So that says a lot about what they've done there in Detroit.
Don La Greca
That is always the sign of a good team. It's so easy to say, well, we lost this guy, we lost that guy. Good teams lose players. I don't have it off the top of my. Take a look at the Penguins record without crossing Sidney Crosby winning record, but that's it. Because that's why they're in the plus. That's why they're in second place. Yeah, that's why they're good.
Alan Hahn
Which is why it's also good when a team has success without their star. They go, hey, they don't even need them. See, they don't need them. They're better without them. No, that means. Well, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
Peter Rosenberg
Because the Mets feel a little different right now.
Caller/Listener
4.
Peter Rosenberg
No, Mets do feel 4.
Alan Hahn
No, I'm not buying that.
Peter Rosenberg
I don't know. The camaraderie all of a sudden. The Jellings.
Alan Hahn
What happens, though, is when a star goes out, other guys raise their game. It just shows the depth.
Don La Greca
Yes, it shows that. That's why you're a good team. Not because you happen to have one of the greatest players ever, but you've got depth, that you're not that reliant. So Cunningham comes back. It's got three regular season games to play. Their first round matchup is still undetermined they're going to do the play in, but they should be able to get through that. Probably would have gotten through it without him. So he should be. By the time they get to the second round where they're really tested, he should be fine. Because think about it. He's playing now. When would be game one of the second round? You're gonna have to wait for the play in, then play the best of seven. We're probably talking close to three weeks right from today. It's May, you know, so he'll be fine by then. So that's great news. As if. As opposed to coming back in the playoffs and you don't know. Now he's got three games to like, literally get the air back in his lungs and go out there and play,
Alan Hahn
and he'll have a week off and then the first round, it'll be that. Boy, I'll tell you, the east play in is going to be interesting. Like any one of those four, give
Don La Greca
them any chance against Detroit.
Alan Hahn
Who.
Don La Greca
Whoever comes out.
Alan Hahn
No.
Don La Greca
Yeah.
Alan Hahn
Not. Not matching that physicality.
Don La Greca
No. No.
Peter Rosenberg
You never know.
Alan Hahn
I'm telling you, somebody's going down the top four. I have a strange feeling one of them's going down.
Don La Greca
But if you. If you had to guess, it'd be Cleveland.
Alan Hahn
Cleveland.
Don La Greca
Yeah.
Alan Hahn
They just showed and. Right. Yes.
Don La Greca
So great postseason team.
Peter Rosenberg
So Philly. So Philly. Or will get the seven.
Alan Hahn
Philly could still get the six and play the Knicks. That's very possible. Yeah. The Raptors winning last night was a big deal for the Raptors, which is why Friday will be interesting.
Peter Rosenberg
They have three left.
Alan Hahn
Do the Knicks look at that game Friday and go, let's let the Raptors win this one so we can face them. Because they. They own them. And they'd be interesting to see if they put anyone in the lineup that night.
Peter Rosenberg
Sixers one back of the Raptors, three to go. Same with Orlando, by the way.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, it'd be interesting to see. How would you play it? Because you know what that would look like. Toronto would know what you're doing. Like, it's the second game back to back. So you could say, you know, second game back to back. We're locked into three. You know, we're going to.
Don La Greca
Yeah.
Alan Hahn
You know, we're not going to sit our guys. We're going to.
Peter Rosenberg
We're going to rest the NBA in 20, 26. You can do whatever you want.
Alan Hahn
You could. And then Toronto just goes, we see what you're doing. You want to play us.
Don La Greca
Yeah. And that's never good. Why Give them anything.
Alan Hahn
Give them motivation. But then again, you can give all the motivation you want to. We've been kicking your ass for two years since the OG trade. You haven't beaten us.
Peter Rosenberg
So it's still. We'd rather take our chances.
Alan Hahn
So you think just play it out and don't. Don't do something.
Peter Rosenberg
No, no, no. What I'm saying is, if you've been beating Toronto's ass for two years, yeah, we'll take our chances motivating you.
Alan Hahn
Oh, right.
Don La Greca
Yeah, yeah.
Alan Hahn
Like, not that worried. You know what I mean? Like, out of the other options being Atlanta, Orlando or Philly, what would you rather do? The young team, the Raptors are the young team out of this group with no experience. Very, very little experience in the playoffs. Not as a team, but other players on the team. You know, like, Orlando's been there, even though they're still relatively young, but they've been there and they've got. You know, Wagner's healthy now and he's a beast, and obviously you don't want to go anywhere near it, but Knicks
Peter Rosenberg
had Orlando first last year, too.
Alan Hahn
No, no, they didn't. No. Why did I. Detroit was last year, first round. Oh, Detroit's first round. Epic series.
Peter Rosenberg
Boston, second round.
Alan Hahn
Right.
Don La Greca
Okay.
Alan Hahn
So I'm just. I was wondering what people think of that. Like, what. How would you play Friday if, you know, Toronto needs to win or keep six?
Peter Rosenberg
Orlando. I just remember listening to Boston. That's why I was paying attention, because it was Boston.
Don La Greca
There you go.
Alan Hahn
It was a good series. Very physical.
Don La Greca
Let's go to Jeff in Westchester. You're on espn, New York. What's up, Jeff?
Caller/Listener
Hey, Don. Hey, Pete. Hey, Alan. How are you guys?
Alan Hahn
Good.
Caller/Listener
I'm just going in to let you guys know if you want to do that golf thing, you should. This is more towards your sales department. They should look at the places called Five Iron Golf in New York City. They are. The video players have the trackman there.
Alan Hahn
Yeah.
Caller/Listener
Because those. Most of the places are big enough where you guys can actually probably even host a show there while doing it. And they have the.
TurboTax Announcer
I think.
Caller/Listener
Where you could do.
Alan Hahn
Why do I feel like this?
Peter Rosenberg
I think you do it.
Alan Hahn
I. Bart and I did a show, the one by Times Square.
Peter Rosenberg
You did Justin Timberlake and.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, that was Tiger and Justin's place. The T squared.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. Which, look at looking back, that brand partnership with them is an interesting choice, but. But I see what you're saying. You're saying we just, like, have a live show and we play the video golf I'm sort of leaning into the whole idea of it being a bigger,
Alan Hahn
you know, day long, nice summer day, you know, get out there.
Caller/Listener
I mean, there's plenty. Plenty of courses around that will definitely hold something like that for you guys. I'm just saying, to get the most out of it, it's something.
Don La Greca
It's not a terrible idea.
Alan Hahn
No, it's not a bad idea. It's a really good thing to consider.
Caller/Listener
Look, whatever brings more attention to golf for people. That's what I'm about. Big golfer. So love it. It's definitely something. You guys should really, well, keep it
Alan Hahn
on your radar, because if we do this, we expect you to be there.
Caller/Listener
I'm actually a caddy, so I'm the type of golfer that semi Don doesn't like, but I'm also the type of golfer that's playing heavy metal.
Don La Greca
So what you're saying is you don't have too much tool, but you bought. However you might be listening.
Caller/Listener
No, but I will play tool when I'm playing golf.
Alan Hahn
Right. There you go. All right.
Peter Rosenberg
That's perfect.
Don La Greca
See, that's the kind of attitude we need at this.
Alan Hahn
That's a great answer.
Don La Greca
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
Well done, sir.
Don La Greca
Less George Plimpton, more tool. That's what we need.
Alan Hahn
I love that.
Don La Greca
Oh, Danny from Long Island's got a suggestion on this whole thing. What do you got, Danny?
Caller/Listener
By the way, I love Peters diving in with both feet. Because now at this point, with a baby at home screaming, any reason, Any reason to go to Jersey for eight hours and play golf? I've been there, Peter. I understand completely. If you can actually get away with it, say it's a bit. It's company. You have to go.
Peter Rosenberg
It's work.
Caller/Listener
It's just four hours. By the way, when you say four hours. We talked lessons before. Four hours is the entree. You got to get to an hour early, hit a bucket of ball. So you got to have to run a turn. You got to have two cops.
Peter Rosenberg
I hate to.
Caller/Listener
Four hours is the minute.
Peter Rosenberg
I hate to ruin. I hate to ruin a good bit, but. No, that's not how I feel at all. I. The reason I wanted to do it, the reason I was suggesting doing Crystal Springs is so I could bring the family. We could do all the other stuff.
Caller/Listener
Beautiful. I take it all back. Listen, I gotta listen to you because I know you love these. I know you love golf. All right, how about three. How about three legit songs about golf? Ready for this? The Crappy Golfer by Toby Keith. It's different word than crappy. I'm not talking about the right word.
Alan Hahn
Gotcha.
Don La Greca
All right.
Caller/Listener
Love. Love the one you whiffed by Jake Trout and the Flounders. Who can ever forget that one? And of course, the immortal Bing Crosby with straight down the middle. We all love that. I'm all into it. I think. I think it should be Donnybrook. I think it should be called the Donnybrook. I think everyone should dress like Bill Murray and just tear up a golf course. It would just be. It would just be complete bedlam. The police would have to be summoned, and the radio station would never have an outing again. Yeah.
Don La Greca
As much fun as that would be. Defeats the purpose.
Peter Rosenberg
You mean the. A sponsor wants to be involved in it. People hope to make some money. You can't have it be complete bedlam. And no, I'm. Again, I didn't want to be a. That put me in an awkward spot because Danny set up this whole bit of, like, Peter, I get it. You have a kid at home. You don't want to be around your family, which is Don's theory. And it's like. No, no. Quite the opposite, in fact. My current schedule requires that, like, I run home in the middle of the day just to try to get a little time with her so I don't just see her bedtime.
Caller/Listener
All right.
Peter Rosenberg
But I do. I do. We do know that that is a common thread, but we got to have something where people still want to participate and not destroy.
Don La Greca
We. We don't want what he described.
Peter Rosenberg
No.
Don La Greca
And we also don't want this.
Podcast Host (Don Hahn)

Don La Greca
We want.
Alan Hahn
Very touristy.
Don La Greca
We want something in between.
Peter Rosenberg
What was going on with Danny's song choices today? What was that?
Alan Hahn
He looked up some songs that sounded like a Toby.
Peter Rosenberg
You know, a Toby Keith golf song. If Don. If. If Don were on the verge of death and I wanted to finish it off. Yeah, I'd say Danny, shoot me over that playlist. I just want to end him right now. A Toby Keith golf song followed by a Bing cross.

Here's the lineup that Alan was saying Yankee fans aren't going to be happy with Grisham's leading off.
Alan Hahn
That's normal.
Don La Greca
All right. And you got Judge Bellinger and Rice.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, all normal.
Don La Greca
John Carlos Stanton Normal is the dh and he's batting fifth.
Alan Hahn
Right.
Don La Greca
Jazz is batting sixth and playing second.
Alan Hahn
All that very typical.
Don La Greca
Scarra is going to be your catcher. That makes sense as well.
Alan Hahn
And then.
Don La Greca
And Rosario's got to be in the lineup. He's playing third. And Ryan McMahon is your shortstop batting ninth with Bill Warren on the mound now.
Alan Hahn
Interesting.
Don La Greca
Let me defend it. All right, you got it. You got to have Rosario in the lineup. He had two home runs.
Alan Hahn
He earned it, right? He earned it.
Don La Greca
He's got to play.
Alan Hahn
Right.
Don La Greca
And Caballero struggling just as much as McMahon is.
Alan Hahn
Not just as much, but.
Don La Greca
Okay, what was. Caballero is batting.129 going into last night. All right. And he's not your everyday shortstop.
Alan Hahn
That's supposed to be Volpe, right.143 with an RBI, 10 strikeouts, two walks, 38 still appearances.
Don La Greca
Right.
Peter Rosenberg
So that it?
Alan Hahn
Yeah.
Don La Greca
Not good.
Alan Hahn
He's 1 for 20 in his last six games. So, yes, he's going through it, but so is McMahon.
Peter Rosenberg
But.
Don La Greca
But somebody has got to play, and you get the better defender at third.
Alan Hahn
I'm curious to see how Yankee fans feel about this decision.
Don La Greca
How do you feel? Good. They would be more hot if he was in. In. Rosario. Set.
Alan Hahn
Right.
Don La Greca
Rosario's got to play.
Alan Hahn
Yeah. Look again. McMahon's got a good glove. I mean, you know, he's more known for third, but okay, he's got a good glove. You know that. And Caballero is a guy that when he does get on the. On base, which will happen at some point, he. I mean, I think he's four for four installing bases, right?
Don La Greca
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Alan Hahn
So, like, you're getting something when he is on base, he's like, McMahon doesn't do what Caballero does for you offensively. But what, are they just giving it a day off? Maybe they just give him a day off.
Don La Greca
Let me ask you this way. Who do they need to get right more, McMahon or Caballero?
Alan Hahn
Caballero.
Don La Greca
No, I disagree.
Alan Hahn
I think they got to get him.
Don La Greca
McMahon's your third baseman. Caballero could lose his job when ball becomes.
Alan Hahn
You know what this is? This is Cashman trying to get a guy that he got last year. That could be one of the worst moves he's made.
Don La Greca
Okay, so even more motivation probably, to try to get him fixed. They'd like to get him fixed.
Alan Hahn
Oh, no, no. See, you're. Now you're. Now you're getting to what I'm thinking.
Peter Rosenberg
Get him fixed just sounds so like getting him neutered.
Alan Hahn
I can't take get him right. Let's get him right.
Peter Rosenberg
Let's get him right. But the problem is what's his right?
Don La Greca
Doesn't sound like it is right.
Alan Hahn
But what's his right? What's McMahon's right?
Don La Greca
We already know he's not known for his back. But he's also not known to be this bad. The ideal management world is he's your third baseman. If Caballero doesn't work out, fine. That was a trade too. Yeah, but Volpe comes back. And if Volpe is supposed to be
Alan Hahn
what he's supposed to be, then the
Don La Greca
Caballero doesn't have a seat anyway.
Alan Hahn
But don't you think that's the other part?
Don La Greca
It's one game. You're eight and two Yankee fans shouldn't be that crazy. But 1-800-919-3776 Griffin is in Connecticut. You're on there. He is up to Grifter.
Caller/Listener
You know, I'm not going to be crazy. Some people might. I. I don't understand. Caballero has never been an everyday player.
Michael.
Michael even told you that. So he's never going to be an everyday. His bat's never been an everyday player, Caballer. So whatever. That's not my point. My point is this American. I know it's early, but this American League is was supposed to be such a tough, tough, tough division. You keep playing baseball the way you are, the rest of the teams keep playing me really bad baseball or not great baseball. There's a good chance by the end of April you could be running away with this division where if you play mediocre baseball, you could still win the division. It is not. It is. I know it's early, but six games out of first place, the Red Sox could be at it along with the Blue Jays. It is early, but you can't dig yourself the big hole if you're the other teams in the American League. The Yankees could create a big hole where they have this division.
Good.
Unless they collapse.
Don La Greca
Now, the difference is, you know, the Blue Jays decimated by injuries. That Kirk injury was the last thing they needed. Offensively, they're hurting with their starting pitching. Baltimore just lost another starting pitcher. There are reasons for this. The Red Sox, not so much. So, yeah, they still have the wild card. There's still ways to get into the playoffs. But yeah, the Yankees, everybody In the division's under.500 and they've got the best record in the American League. Like so do not disrespect this start. It is a great start. You've won every series, right. You're taking care of business. Was it a walk by Raleigh and he won. Loss against the Marlins. That's it? That's all you got? I mean, you got to be just. Absolutely.
Alan Hahn
And the one loss to the Marlins was a bullpen blow up, which is,
Don La Greca
you know, in the bullpen, he still
Alan Hahn
scored a ton of runs.
Don La Greca
You're not going to be perfect.
Alan Hahn
Right.
Don La Greca
Judge still is. Not Judge yet.
Alan Hahn
Not a. Yeah, all of it. Look, it's not like you have a huge lead, but you still, you only see him over 500. You already opened up like almost a four game lead. I think it's four in a loss column. And that's, that's, that's what you want everybody else chasing, right? So all that stuff, it's just early in the season, certain decisions that are made are curious because again, it can. Can. Wasn't Rosario a shortstop? Yeah, he couldn't play shortstop. Like, what's. Why are we like.
Peter Rosenberg
McMahon's a third nation.
Don La Greca
Well, here, let's play.
Alan Hahn
What are we doing?
Don La Greca
I just want to know. Yeah, let's have the game.
Alan Hahn
So he hasn't talked.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, he spoke.
Don La Greca
It's right there.
Alan Hahn
Oh, you have it.
Don La Greca
So tell me, what is he going to say?
Alan Hahn
All right, we got to get. What would he call McMahon? Because everybody has a nickname that's like an ie ending.
Peter Rosenberg
Can't be McMahon. It was some of the finest boonies.
Alan Hahn
No, seriously, because he calls, he calls Rice, Benny, Judgy. Like Everybody's got an ie. Mickey, what would you call McMahon? Mack. Is that just Mac?
Don La Greca
I think it's Mac.
Alan Hahn
All right, so I'm guessing they want to get him going. He gave you a little something the last time he played. They want to build off. They want him aggressive at the plate. Take a little pressure off him. And Rosie earned another appearance, which, by the way, I believe that OC goes against the Yankee way, which is hot. We don't believe in hot.
Caller/Listener
Right.
Alan Hahn
The Yankee way is, you know, that was just a one off and we're not going to play him tonight because it's a one off. But no, you're actually going to gamble on hot tonight and see if Rosario continues. So I think it's. Rosie earned another start and we want to keep him at third. And you know, Mack, you know, we want to get him back out there, you know, for. What would they call Caballero, Cabbie or whatever you want to call it?
Don La Greca
Yeah, I think it's Cabbie.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, Cabbie. Want to give him a day you want to. Just want to give him a day, like, you know, just let's let him. Let him work through some stuff. Let's see.
Don La Greca
I. I like what you've done here. Here is Aaron Boone before the game. Why McMahon is at shortstop tonight?
Aaron Boone
Well, I mean, this is, you know, part of the plan is kind of spend spring training getting him some reps there, knowing early in the year that he's likely our backup short shortstop. So, like, what I saw from him, I think I got him five starts in spring training at short. Felt like he gained some comfortability there. So, you know, it felt like it was a good day to get him and Rosie in there. Cabbie's played every inning of every game, so. Yeah, I just felt like the right night to do that.
Peter Rosenberg
God bless you, man.
Don La Greca
Come on.
Alan Hahn
Come on.
Peter Rosenberg
Really?
Alan Hahn
I know Yankee speak now that. Although I never thought of the idea of the backup short, I thought Rosario would be the backup shortstop because he has played both positions but didn't really pay enough attention. I apologize that McMahon actually did get reps at shortstop in spring training, which does make sense.
Don La Greca
Now, here's another question, and believe me, I've mangled the English language myself.
Alan Hahn
Sure you did.
Don La Greca
Is it comfortability or comfortability?
Peter Rosenberg
Comfortability.
Alan Hahn
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
Right, because no one says comfort.
Alan Hahn
No.
Peter Rosenberg
So why would it become comfortability?
Caller/Listener
Comfort.
Alan Hahn
It's comfortable.
Peter Rosenberg
Comfortability.
Don La Greca
Yeah, comfortability.
Alan Hahn
We'll accept it better.
Don La Greca
We'll accept it flows better. What?
Alan Hahn
No, what I said, comfortability is. You're putting the wrong.
Don La Greca
Yeah, Sometimes we do that in English. Yeah. We also put a G H in through. We change things.
Alan Hahn
We're talking about emphasis in syllables.
Don La Greca
I understand. That does change.
Peter Rosenberg
Right.
Alan Hahn
Look, we can't. We can't just do every word willy nilly. We have to have some structure. Comfortability is the word. Let's just stay with it.
Don La Greca
I like comfortability.
Peter Rosenberg
I like what you're trying to do.
Don La Greca
I know.
Alan Hahn
If you were talking about Michael Conforto, I would say yes.
Don La Greca
No, I'm not talking about Michael Conforto. I'm talking about comfortability.
Alan Hahn
Okay. Affordability.
Don La Greca
Well, there you go.
Alan Hahn
All right. But it's a Ford without the suffix.
Don La Greca
There's other examples. I'll think of them when we come back. More Yankees at 1-800-919-3776. Jaylen Brown won't shut up.
Alan Hahn
Wow, Cabby, that was a good.
Don La Greca
It's a good Allen segment. Can we monetize that?
Alan Hahn
We can, right now.
Don La Greca
1-800-919-3776. Donna Rosenberg, ESPN.
Alan Hahn
My comfortability when it comes to home improvement, of course, is that I work with Rings End. We're doing a great project at the house that I'm getting excited for. I will tell you about it. Once they break the when they start, I mean, cutting into the wall, then, you know, it gets real. All the measuring's been done, the ordering is happening right now. And we're excited because we're, you know, replacing some windows that need terribly need updating, but also adding a big beautiful picture window that's going to overlook the backyard. And in the spring with the sun out, you can only just imagine just how much light that's going to bring in the house. We all love that. So why am I working with Ring's End? Well, because they work with pro contractors who build and remodel for a living. The pros trust them. So why can't I? Of course I can. And you can too. They have premium brands and not just windows, doors, decking, paint, lumber, kitchens, all the stuff that you need to upgrade update your home. They have built the last high end product lines that the contractors rely on. So they're not a national chain, by the way. So this is a company that is local. They understand the area. They have regional expertise. They also have eight full service lumber yards in Connecticut and Westchester county and also 12, yeah, count them, 12 freestanding paint centers as well. Ring's End's family owned and operated since 1902. So they know the area, they know you and they've been around for a long time. And if you can't make it to a store, hey, just shop online@ringsend.com that's ringsend.com thanks for listening to the Don

Hosts: Don La Greca, Alan Hahn, Peter Rosenberg
Platform: ESPN New York
Episode Theme: Sports banter with a local New York focus, fan culture, a humorous take on golf, and in-depth discussion of Knicks, Yankees, and NBA/NHL storylines.
This episode delivers the show’s signature blend of sharp, humorous sports commentary and banter, focusing on two main threads: the possibility of a Don, Hahn & Rosenberg listener golf event with an anti-elitist twist, and a broad sweep of Knicks/NBA and Yankees/MLB storylines as the postseason and early regular season heat up. The hosts riff on sports culture, interact with listeners, and provide thoughtful analysis, all with their usual playful energy.

(08:35–21:26)
(16:22–21:26)
(30:04–39:04)
(33:05–35:29)
The episode blends inside-joke laced camaraderie with knowledgeable sports analysis and classic New York cynicism. Listener engagement and self-deprecating humor abound, with the hosts both celebrating fandom and poking fun at their own and listeners’ obsessions. They navigate sports culture (and sports business), keeping things grounded, relatable, and entertaining.
“Hour 2: Don Golf Outing” showcases why Don, Hahn & Rosenberg is a staple for New York sports fans: it’s as much about the passion and culture of fandom as actual games. Whether riffing on the absurdity of golf elitism, the highs and inevitable frustrations of Knicks and Yankees fandom, or parsing the postgame platitudes of Aaron Boone, the show is equal parts sports bar and lecture hall. The energy is inclusive—listeners are invited to join the anti-golf movement, argue about the lineup, and stress endlessly about playoff scenarios. Come for the analysis, stay for the laughs.
