Peter Rosenberg
Listen live weekday afternoon starting at 3 on 8 80, ESPN, the ESPN New York app, and your smart speakers. This is the list with Don Hahn and Rosenberg. All right, so Peter Rosenberg put together a very special list today. I'll let you describe what this list is and so Don can then decide if he likes this list that you put together today. And of course, everybody listening can partake in it as well. Go ahead.
Anthony
Well, listen, we love Don, we love Donnie, we love our Don. And it is Don's birthday today. He's 57 years young, the most mage and least repug he's ever been. And to honor him, our top five today will be the five greatest Don legreca moments in the history of the radio.
Peter Rosenberg
Wow. Very.
Evan
It must have been a lot of work. We've talked 23 and a half years.
Peter Rosenberg
A lot of research. Research department working overtime last.
Anthony
Oh, yeah, absolutely. Everyone was up all night scanning through all the tapes.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, we don't have, I don't have time to thank the whole staff that was doing this last. So we'll just. The whole staff. Thank you for the effort.
Anthony
It's too many people. Wow.
Evan
This is very nice.
Anthony
First, some honorable mentions that we're not able to.
Evan
I like this.
Anthony
Just a couple of quick ones. The greatest drop in the history of the Michael K Show. And maybe this radio station, of course, must be remembered. It's known forever as simply Eric Weddle.
Evan
Former Raven replied our current Raven.
Anthony
Oh, like the game doesn't need him.
Evan
Sorry, he's a charger now.
Anthony
He's a charger.
Evan
Oh, no, he's a ram.
Anthony
It's an indescribable piece of audio.
Peter Rosenberg
Was you. Was your Internet just like, slow to load up?
Evan
No, I just kept changing the page. An assist has to go to Andrew Gunling because he was in my ear.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, God.
Anthony
And so Don's getting it wrong, but then Gunling also got it wrong, right?
Evan
No, he's like former Raven. I said what I say former Raven. Former Raven replied current Raven.
Anthony
No. Oh, look, the game doesn't need him.
Evan
Sorry. He's a Charger now.
Anthony
He's a Charger.
Evan
Oh, no, he's a Ram. No, he, he, he says in my ear, no, no, no, no. So I'm like, oh, Curran, Rams. No, no, LA Charger. Oh, Chargers. I don't know why I'd go Chargers over Rams. I could have been bailout. I don't know why it's so good.
Anthony
I don't understand too, by the way. Like, I don't know what's wrong with me that I'm responding to every. What makes this drop a perfect marriage is that I'm still speaking after everything you said.
Evan
Former Raven replied. Our current Raven.
Anthony
I. Oh, like the game doesn't need him.
Evan
Sorry. He's a Charger now.
Anthony
He's a Charger.
Evan
Oh, no, he's a Ram.
Peter Rosenberg
He's like talking as if you're not talking to himself. But that's the. That's Ron Burgundy. That's real life Ron Burgundy. You're just repeating things on the air, not even thinking, oh, man.
Anthony
Now, never do that. I didn't put any of these on the list and there were many you could choose from. But Don's had a lot of great performances at live events. And this, there's a couple that are on the list for my favorite. This one was a couple of years ago. It was tremendous. At the Beach Bash.
Don LaGreca
I'm gonna knock you out Mama say knock you out I'm gonna knock you out Mama say knock out I'm gonna knock you out I'm gonna say knock you out I'm gonna knock you out I'ma say knock you out Shadow box When I heard you on the radio ooh I just don't know what made you forget that I was wrong but now I got a new tour. I'm going insane after Hurricane Felicity Pain. Letting you know you can't date or maintain unless it's in my name.
Anthony
Here's old an older and I was in.
Evan
I was dressed for the part too. I had a little blow up radio I sunglasses and the hat.
Anthony
It was a lot of fun.
Evan
A lot of people complimented me on that.
Anthony
That was a great hip hop people. What was your one the next year though? I love to you did a rock one two years ago that I loved. I just couldn't remember which one it was that I thought was your best. You've had so many classics at this point. We'll marinate.
Evan
Oh, well, thank you.
Anthony
All right, let's get into it now. Your top five Don legreca moments at Least ones that I was able to find. The audio of 5 is pretty recent and it is a classic moment.
Evan
Are you kidding me?
Don LaGreca
I'd cut his ass. I would. How dare you? These people pay your salary. They pay an obnoxious amount of money to park. An obnoxious amount of money for PSLs to sit there and watch this pap. And you call them hamburger flippers. What? You're so much better. I'd rather have a guy that's flipping hamburgers blocked than your piece of garbage ass. Who the hell are you to talk to fans like that? You piece of garbage. I hate when players do that. You're not above us. What, because you happen to play a sport? You're better than me? You're better than the people that pay your salary. These giant fans were here before you, and they'll be here after your sorry ass is cut. What a piece of human trash. And I don't want to hear some apology. I don't want to hear. Oh, I was taken out of context. I didn't mean. I don't want to hear done. Done. I would cut his fat ass. You see him in the mall of Willowbrook. Boo his ass. If you see him on the dmv, boo him. Don't stop booing him if he goes to the promo.
Anthony
Dom McGregor and Evan ne so good. It's like what, a year and a half ago now? But it might as well have been a day.
Peter Rosenberg
That might be Evan Neal's career highlight.
Evan
That would have been what, September23? Yeah.
Anthony
That is number five. Number four is short, sweet, and forever impactful.
Evan
LT, it's Don LaGreca. How are you?
Peter Rosenberg
All right, don't stop now.
Evan
It's doing well. Now tell me, how much of the Giants have you been able to watch this year?
Peter Rosenberg
Actually, I don't watch a whole lot of. I've seen him several times.
Evan
This was the. This was during the repugnance. Where do I work?
Peter Rosenberg
The best part is like the first part when he goes.
Evan
So you don't know what to do with that.
Peter Rosenberg
And you're like, all right, well, how much time? None.
Evan
Oh, yeah?
Don LaGreca
What do you do next?
Anthony
He answers with actually, which is not.
Evan
A good start now to defend myself. And I've defended myself on this many times. Not that I have to, but I'm think this is. This is pre recorded. So I was so taken aback by his answer, I flubbed, thinking all along that this isn't gonna air. And then he says he's got no knowledge of the team in which I'M interviewing him about it did air.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh.
Evan
During a broadcast, which we did remotely from the transmitter of this radio station on the shoulder of Route 3, outside the middle lines.
Anthony
So it's not just good audio. It was all a great.
Evan
So that's why I didn't put any thought into my clothes, because I figured I'd be homeless soon because there's no way the station is gonna make it.
Peter Rosenberg
All right.
Evan
It's doing well. Now, tell me, how much of the Giants have you been able to watch this year?
Peter Rosenberg
Actually, I don't watch a whole lot of them. I've seen it.
Anthony
It's so good.
Peter Rosenberg
Every minute of it's good.
Evan
All right, now, producing that one, what.
Peter Rosenberg
Is to Don with Donald? Nobody says hello to him.
Evan
Alan, don't even bother. We tried for 20 years. That happened. That was the end of the 05 season. We're going on 20 years that drop has existed. And we every, every once in a while will open phone lines. What do you think he said? And then the person will be on hold, be like, I think he might have gotten it. And then they'll say it and we'll play it back. No, not it.
Anthony
All right, this one, some people argue, could be number one. It happened very recently, and it was another iconic moment when Don had to respond to Mike and Manalapin.
Caller
Oh, my gosh, Don.
Evan
No, no.
Don LaGreca
Oh, my God.
Caller
To you, some of your comments are no, no.
Evan
I know you have no comments.
Don LaGreca
I'm at least answering your question.
Evan
Mike.
Don LaGreca
All you say is Don. I know my name is Don. How is he hurting them?
Caller
The question. He gets an out every time.
Evan
That's not hurting them.
Don LaGreca
It's not hurting them. If he bats zero, the team is 40 games above.500. But you. Do you think he's going to be on this team in the playoffs? Do you really believe he's going to be batting 160 and starting in the outfield and batting six for the Yankees in the postseason? Do you really think so?
Caller
So, Don, if they had a guy batting.300 in his spot, they'd be 25 games up.
Anthony
That's how he's hurting him.
Evan
Oh, my God.
Peter Rosenberg
Is that.
Anthony
You think so?
Don LaGreca
That's what you need to do. Stop with your Michael K. I'm on the air. I worked at the Fan before Michael K. I do Ranger games without Michael K. 16 years doing pre and post for the Jets. Guess what? No Michael K. I got a PODC cast that's in the top 50 in every country on the planet. No Michael k. I've got two kids. 17 years. I'll be married during September. Guess what? No Michael K. I've got hair that people would die to have. Michael K. Nothing. I'm a fabulous driver. Michael K. Has got nothing to do with it.
Evan
No.
Peter Rosenberg
Michael Kirk, what Joey Gallo did to people in New York.
Evan
Oh, I know.
Peter Rosenberg
Just.
Evan
That's what we're talking about. Joey Gallo.
Anthony
He'll never.
Peter Rosenberg
He'll never know the impact he had actually, as a. As an athlete here.
Evan
And then Michael got ripped for ripping Joey Gallo when he walked out the door. Like, why are you treating him so poorly?
Anthony
No. All right, that's number three, Mike. And what a moment. Number two. This one's very famous, often mentioned when you. When you talk about Don lagreca, this man's name also comes up.
Don LaGreca
I bring up Ed Cranepool because poor Ed Cranepool came up when he was 17 years old, spent his entire career as a Met. When David Wright was breaking every offensive record, he was breaking Ed Crane pool's records. Michael. Ed Crane pool. That's your guy. That's your forever guy. Not Ruth, not Gehrig, not mantle, not DiMaggio, not Barra, not Jeter, not Pettit, not in Duhar, not Judge, not Bird.
Peter Rosenberg
Bird.
Don LaGreca
Ed Crate Pool. There's a couple that didn't age great. Pool.
Evan
There was a couple that just didn't age.
Anthony
Didn't age great in the moment.
Don LaGreca
They were prank and you were four.
Anthony
Hold on. I think there was three players between Bara and Anduhar.
Peter Rosenberg
He never said maddingly, but after Anduhar, who was the next name? Oh, my God.
Evan
Ronald.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, my God. Ronald Torreus. Esteban Florio.
Evan
I forgot that name. Oh, boy.
Anthony
Now, the greatest moment in the history of Don legrecord This one.
Evan
I envision what it is, but we'll see. And welcome to Staples center in Los Angeles, California. It is game one of the Stanley Cup Final between the New York Rangers and the Los Angeles Kings. I'm Don Leggraeca, joined by the former captain, Dave Maloney.
Anthony
For a hockey man to get to call a Stanley Cup Final on the air, that's your number one.
Evan
Rip that list, Don.
Peter Rosenberg
That's right.
Don LaGreca
Take that.
Evan
Well, thank you. I really appreciate the effort.
Commercial Voice

Evan
You got me that. I got Skechers from Don't break. No, it's great.
Peter Rosenberg
Now you have to explain it.
Evan
I don't have to explain anything. You got me a gift. He got me an old man gift.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Evan
I'm like Howie Long on his flight. I don't have to bend over to tie my shoes. This is huge. No, I. No, I love.
Peter Rosenberg
But why would you say that on the air, though?
Evan
Why? What's the matter?
Anthony
You gave him sneaks.
Evan
Yes, we talked about it on the air.
Peter Rosenberg
We had discussed this. No, we didn't talk about it on the air.
Evan
Yes, we did.
Peter Rosenberg
No, we did not.
Evan
I thought we did.
Anthony
You know, Don just. By the way, you should know this about Don. He struggles to remember.
Evan
Whatever. It was all good. Thank you very much. I appreciate it.
Anthony
Do you have any plans tonight for the birthday?
Evan
That's tough because I'm gonna get home so late. And then. So I could do something on Saturday.
Peter Rosenberg
I would hope that Nancy would have the kids somewhere else.
Evan
No, no. We've got Declan. So we've added a kid.
Anthony
And this isn't the night. Don's night is anniversary. Not. Not birthday.
Evan
I never say anything about birthdays.
Anthony
Yeah, birthday, anniversary, night's the night.
Peter Rosenberg
Jeez.
Anthony
And birthdays.
Evan
You notice of the four things. And just. Just to accentuate the. No. Michael K. Yeah. Of four of the top five had nothing to do with Michael. The only rant I did where Michael was present was the Ed Crane pool.
Anthony
Most. A lot of the great rants of the last year.
Evan
Jose Reyes rant. Which I thought you were going to use as one.
Anthony
It was. It's here, but I didn't play it. The Jose Reyes one. That's. We know, right?
Evan
Yes.
Anthony
I also thought about, of course, Matt Forte. How many chances he get is a great moment. Look at this garbage.
Evan
You know what?
Peter Rosenberg
Out on a contest.
Evan
I'm just Not. I'm not a one trick pony of just rants that I did one of the Stanley Cups.
Anthony
I tried to mix that up a little bit. And you also say things that make absolutely no sense. Like the. With lt, I wanted to include everything. Dom. You see the whole thing. You're not just a screaming machine or.
Evan
Somebody that can't put together a sentence.
Anthony
No, you're both of those things. You're both of those things plus you call the Stanley Cup Final.
Evan
I appreciate that.
Peter Rosenberg
All that does is tell us a great broadcaster who's had a great career, hell of a career, continues to have one. So. Happy birthday.
Evan
For your birthday.
Anthony
What was that?
Evan
Who's next up?
Anthony
When's your birthday?
Peter Rosenberg
June.
Evan
Oh, so close to Peter.
Anthony
Yeah. On July. Oh, wow, you're June, what?
Peter Rosenberg
19Th.
Anthony
June 19th.
Peter Rosenberg
Juneteenth.
Anthony
Oh, you are. You have a holiday around your birthday.
Peter Rosenberg
It always was.
Anthony
It always was. Every year you were aware of it and celebrated.
Peter Rosenberg
It's a national holiday and it's.
Anthony
At least it was.
Peter Rosenberg
And now it is.
Anthony
We'll see if it still is.
Peter Rosenberg
800 now at 9377 this excellent list. Again, credit to all of our research team that put together. Thank you on that.
Evan
Thank you.
Peter Rosenberg
But the one thing though. Should we reveal what we were looking for but couldn't find in the archives? Want to reveal it?
Evan
Oh, wow.
Peter Rosenberg
There was one thing that would have been special like that might have brought a little emotion.
Anthony
Yeah. I don't knew we wouldn't find it.
Peter Rosenberg
But we not have that.
Anthony
I asked, I asked, do we have the first words ever spoken on the radio station which were you, of course. Do you have them down?
Evan
I have it on cassette somewhere. Do you remember? Of course.
Peter Rosenberg
You probably.
Evan
You probably had a bunch of. There were just like these blank like white cassettes that we'd get boxes of them at the radio stage. I'd grab back when we'd act to take stuff off a log. Remember?
Anthony
Yeah, yeah.
Evan
Like way back in the day where it would be archived on VHS and it would be hooked up to a cassette recorder. I mean, this and I. So I have a bunch of that. Wait, I've got boxes of cassettes of.
Anthony
VHS cassettes or audio cassette.
Evan
I transferred it from VHS to those white audio cassettes and I've got boxes of them at home. They're actually in the garage of my mom's and I brought them home and you have day one and during COVID I found. I got like a tabletop recorder, like a portable recorder and I was. It was like during COVID during time I. Trying to find. Trying to find it. I haven't been able to find it yet, but it's somewhere in unlabeled cassettes.
Anthony
Do you know the first things you said when you opened it was just.
Evan
You know, welcome to ESPN in New York. And I did an update, but there was like a moment where I just said welcome. Because what they did, they had to purge the EVD audience. So what they did for like two weeks leading in was just playing all the ESPN personality saying, you know, we're coming to New York is all I'm trying to think of like Dan Patrick and. And they just played that like I'm.
Anthony
A loop Overman Stewart's midnight.
Evan
And in that update was the. Because it was Monday morning, midnight Monday morning, the Mike Messina almost perfect game at Fenway on the Sunday night baseball. Remember that?
Peter Rosenberg
Yep.
Evan
So that's how far back we go. Wow, that would be cool to hear just that.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, we need to find it. We need to hear it.
Anthony
We'll find it one day.
Evan
So thank you for, you know. That's a nice effort. Really.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, we, you.
Anthony
We effort it.
Evan
Well.
Anthony
I had the idea, but then Anthony put the question.
Peter Rosenberg
Anthony did? Yeah. Anthony's the large staff of people that put the work.
Anthony
He does everything. He gets coffee. He puts together entire things. He does everything.
Peter Rosenberg
He is an army of one.
Anthony
Yeah, he really is.
Evan
Of course, the. The cake, the tradition and no other.
Anthony
The Oreo ice cream.
Peter Rosenberg
And you. I see. I am eating the cake.
Anthony
Yes. And Alan has a week off of tv, so he's even eating some sweets.
Peter Rosenberg
Yes.
Anthony
You don't get this every day.
Peter Rosenberg
No, we don't. 800 hour 93776. We get calls every day. We got people to talk to. Frank. And Hoboken will start us. Hey, Frank.
Caller
Hey, guys. Good show. I'm glad you guys are always on to get me through the rush hour here in Hoboken. But one of the things I wanted to say, I remember a while ago, my back, I think it was sometime in 2011. I used to crack on my friend being a Dolphin fan and he would have a joke saying that, you know, he had about 18 starting quarterbacks in 2014, 2011 or something like that. And now I look, I look at, you know, the tables have turned on me and now it's my turn to get cracked on. And it's like I'm saying to myself, when did we, the jets become the Dolphins of back in the day? I mean, when did that happen? And the other thing I want to say is, you know, I always find it ironic how they, the powers that be at the jet camp said that they were going to move in a different direction. And it's. You look around, it's like there is no direction.
Evan
I can't imagine what they're doing unless they know that they're going to keep Tyrod Taylor or they know that they're going to sign Kirk Cousins. How could they know? How would they know it's going to be at 7? How do they know they can make a deal to move up to get one of these quarterbacks? You can't know.
Peter Rosenberg
You have an idea. You have to.
Evan
The only one you can know is because you have two quarterbacks on your roster.
Peter Rosenberg
Because why would you get rid of a quarterback that can start if you don't already have a plan? I just don't like that's the concern that you have. Look, we don't know Darren Mugi. We don't know what he's going to do. We don't know his style. Is he aggressive? Is he somebody that believes you have to get the quarterback? Is he somebody that believes in drafting and developing more than going after people in free agency? Blow up the roster, let's start young and let's build this thing? I don't know. We have to see how it goes. But right now, what are your options? Your options are. You just mentioned Kirk Cousins, right? You just mentioned. We've been mentioning Sam Darnold. That's the expensive one right now in New Orleans, Kellen Moore just took over and the first big headline out of his press conference was that he remains sort of on the fence about Derek Carr going forward, whether or not they think that he's going to be the guy. So could Derek Carr now be part of the options? There's veterans that are going to be available and we got to see what they want to do, but they don't want Aaron Rodgers.
Evan
You could have waited because obviously you want that cap relief, right? So you're probably not going to officially cut him June 1st. June 1st. So you could have waited just to see what shakes out.
Peter Rosenberg
All right?
Evan
We didn't draft our quarterback. We're talking to free agents. You don't know if Sam Darnold to come here. You don't know that Kirk Cousins is going to come here. You don't know if you can swing anything with Pittsburgh for Justin Fields. You don't know if you can swing anything for Derek Carr. The only thing you know for a fact is, is that you've got Tyrod Taylor and Jordan Travis under contract, right?
Peter Rosenberg
And you have a seventh overall pick.
Evan
And that's the only thing. That's the only reality that you live in. And if you talk to any general manager that worth their salt in sports, they will only speak in the reality of what they absolutely know. And they only know they've got the seventh overall pick, but they don't know what that seven pick is going to be because they don't know what's going to happen in the previous six. And they know who they have under contract. And even. Even Travis, I mean, what. What could they know about him? They just got here. They'd have to be like, what film are they looking at from college? He hasn't played the NFL, so he.
Peter Rosenberg
Hasn'T played on the field in a year, right?
Evan
So I just think Tyrod Taylor, maybe they just. Maybe they like Tyrod Taylor. They've seen him play. He's 35 years old. There's plenty of film on him. Maybe they're like, hey, listen, I think he's as good as anybody we can go out and get. So we got him under contract. It's not gonna cost us anything. But you ate a bunch of dead cap money to get rid of Aaron Rodgers, and right now you don't seem to have a viable alternative. Why? And I think the reason why is, is because it's a great PR move to say, hey, we got a new sheriff in town. Bye, Aaron Rodgers. Good riddance.
Peter Rosenberg
So you think this is more grandstanding than anything?
Evan
I think it's grandstanding because, like I mentioned in the open, why was there a report that they told him he couldn't go on McAfee and he had to be at every. Every camp? If they weren't gonna bring him back anyway, why would they even have that conversation?
Peter Rosenberg
Why have stipulations if there's no right, if there's no reason to make them right? You weren't going to keep them anyway.
Evan
Because it sends an air of, I don't like. Rodgers probably said, no way, man. I'm Aaron Rodgers. Oh, yeah? Well, you're Aaron Rodgers. You're out on your ass. Like, it's all just fugazi stuff. At the end of the day, I don't feel any different about Aaron Glenn or anybody with the jets organization because they did this. I want to know who their quarterback's going to be. And I think there's the motivation of Allen. The less expectations, the easier it is for a young head coach to get ingrained into the New York sports scene. Why have him have Aaron Rodgers with expectations of making the playoffs? Why I gotta have Tyrod Taylor be my quarterback? Everybody thinks we're going to stink. And then they surprisingly win seven, eight games and everybody thinks he did a great job.
Peter Rosenberg
It's a really good point because you're right. Rogers on the roster regardless of anything else. Because you know, Adams would want to stay. I don't know if Garrett would stay, but.
Evan
But maybe you spin Garrett into something that can help you in the now.
Peter Rosenberg
And you could like. But everybody looking is like, well, you have Aaron Rodgers, you're trying to win. You're clearly trying to win now if you have Aaron Rodgers. But if you move on from Aaron Rodgers and go to some type of stopgap or young quarterback now, it becomes a feeling of a rebuild which take the pressure off. It's a really good point. Rob in the car. What's up, Rob?
Anthony
Hey, Rob.
Caller
Hey. Happy birthday. I want to comment on the Aaron Rodgers, but I just.
Evan
I want to.
Caller
I'm also. I'm 54 and a huge fan of Rage against the Machine. But you should also check out Zach's guest guest vocals on Run the Jewel songs. I think some of their best a hip hop and some of their best stuff is with Zach as a guest. Moving on to Aaron Rodgers. I see this as you know, this is a culture shift that's happening. When they brought Rodgers in, they said we'll be willing to deal with the distractions because we'll take the elite quarterback play because it's going to help us get to that next step, get to the playoffs and be competitive. That didn't happen. If you're now trying to build a culture, it's going to be hard to do that with the distractions and the accommodations that Rogers demands and saying that we're not going to allow those sort of the Pat McAfee appearances and that we want you to be at every practice is a sign that they want every single player on that team to be all in and that they're building a new culture. And if that costs them two wins in a losing season, that's not as important as setting sending a signal to the players on the team and to other players in the NFL. I'll interested to hear what you got to talk about.
Evan
But did it really even happen? We never heard from Aaron Rodgers that it happened. We never heard that Aaron Rodgers said, no, I'm gonna stay on McAfee. No, I'm gonna go to Egypt. We never heard that.
Peter Rosenberg
Nope.
Evan
We have no idea if that even happened. And if it did happen, then that tells you that they were honestly thinking about bringing him back. And by not bringing him back, you send the perception that Rogers wasn't on board and he kicked him out on the street. But we don't know if any of that happened.
Peter Rosenberg
But wouldn't that be what you say, though, that you wanted to keep him? We talked to him and we couldn't come up with an agreement. We just couldn't come up with a plan that we both could live with.
Evan
Like whatever it is, in fairness, they didn't say anything. This is a Diana Rossini report, but she doesn't get these things wrong. So it sends the report out of.
Peter Rosenberg
The statement, only said we met with him and let him know, but we.
Evan
Never heard Rogers feelings on it. At some point, Rogers is gonna probably go on McAfee maybe next Tuesday and tell everybody that it never happened and it's gonna be a he said thing. And the Jet fans that want to be all on board with this current regime are going to say Roger's a piece of garbage. He's lying. I'm on board with the Jets.
Anthony
Answer me this. When we come back from the break, is there a reason, a football reason, why this all had to be announced right now?
Peter Rosenberg
Thanks for listening to the Don Hahn and Rosenberg podcast.
Anthony
I didn't listen to anything you just said.
Peter Rosenberg

Hope we didn't put the jinx on St. John's last night.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, that was a Villanova team that was reading all the headlines and into our building. They just went up to gampel and beat UConn. We better be ready for him. And they were ready for him and for St. John's they still battle back, but Pitino even said it didn't rebound well and Villanova shot the hell out of the basketball.
Evan
John Fanta kind of said he would look at it as a trap game because that's a tough place to go and play. And he kind of pumped the brakes on hold. There'll be a three seed, that there might be a couple of losses here. It happens.
Anthony
Well, listen, as sort of whack as the current state of college conferences are, St. John's and Villanova is what it is like you're, you know what you're going to deal with when you have to go play that game. And it's a tough one, but I.
Peter Rosenberg
Still, again, it's not like, oh, see, overreacting or spoke too soon. No, this is a very good team. Yeah, that's just one of those losses. It's college basketball. It's the way it goes. Lou is in Manalapan. Hey, Louis.
Caller
Hey, guys. Sorry, been a while. I want to say congratulations on the show. I'm a fan of all three of you and, you know, congratulations and happy birthday, Don.
Evan
Thank you.
Caller
So I want to get into the jets conversation that you guys were having and you know, it is ridiculous as a Jeff fan to just watch this team just make a mockery out of itself when. When they don't really have to. Like, why do you. Why do we even have to make a comment on what we're doing with Aaron Rodgers? As you guys were saying before, there was no need. It just makes us look funny. But in regards to getting another quarterback, I really want to see them try and get Justin Fields. Maybe that keeps Garrett Wilson in the building. And I really want to see, you know, if they go into the draft, I want them to execute on multiple picks. That's kind of my concern, not having Joe Douglas because he, he was definitely the most successful drafter out of the last couple chats GMs and I don't want, I don't want to see them trade up for a quarterback. I. I really don't. If they're going to draft the quarterback, draft them in whatever round, whether that's the first or the fifth, I don't care. Just try and get your guy. And. And that's really what I want to see from.
Peter Rosenberg
I mean, I think, Lou, you'll probably see them like you just said, I think is probably at some point in this draft, they'll probably draft someone that plays the position just to see whether or not they take them high. Because you always take the best player when you're seven. You're not normally going to find a quarterback in a draft that isn't as deep as some other years have been. So we'll see. But Mike Tannenbaum guys had an interesting take about what the jets should do in this situation now with Rogers moving on and no big question mark now at quarterback and Mike T said that he actually is familiar with this page up Ravens.
Mike Tannenbaum
We meet with Brett Favre, we let him go, obviously he goes on to Minnesota. And then we start a very thorough search. We look at Matt Stafford, Mark Sanchez, Josh Freeman. We look at options in terms of veteran free agency trades and I'm sure Darren Muji, the new GM of the jets and Aaron Glenn will be very thorough in their process. What's fascinating to me is this when you look at the draft, the top 10 team, Tennessee, Cleveland, now the jets, the Giants, possibly the Saints, depending on Derek Carr and Las Vegas, six of the top 10 teams in the draft could be looking at quarterback.
Peter Rosenberg
And so he said the jets can do what he did when it comes to Brett Farr, ideally in a situation.
Mike Tannenbaum
Back in 09 and now is you're trying to reset things. And we felt like, wow, if we could pair Rex Ryan with a young, young quarterback, that would be an ideal situation. We were fortunate, worked out with Mark Sanchez, got to a couple championship games and likewise when you fast forward now Aaron Glenn's the new person in charge terms of the new head coach of the jets. And in a perfect world, you're starting with a new younger quarterback. Aaron Rodgers is going to be 42 this year. Even if he was there, you're looking at a band aid at best. So to the extent you could reset things, it's really a good opportunity to do that.
Peter Rosenberg
So do you do what I brought that up before, do you do that? They moved up to get Mark Sanchez. They were aggressive to get Mark Sanchez. Is that what maybe the jets do in this draft? Try to move up to get ahead of other teams that are looking for a quarterback? And if you are all in, let's Say on Shador Sanders, you do whatever it takes to get him. So is that what they should do now? You pair your.
Evan
Of course it's something that they. When you say should do. Can they do it now?
Peter Rosenberg
Tennessee is a way to play.
Evan
They're open. They're open to trading but I don't think they want to fall down to seven because they're not going to be able to get the transition. The transcendent player at seven. Now I don't think the jets and Giants would make a trade. They're only not moving up to three.
Peter Rosenberg
No. So it's obviously you would have to. Look, you have to consider this. There's two quarterbacks that could go in the top five. If the Giants take Cam Ward. Do you make a deal of all teams with the Patriots or Jacksonville just to get ahead of the Raiders? Like you only have to get ahead of the Raiders. If you don't think that the Browns are going to take a quarterback and you don't think the Titans are going to take a quarterback. The only team you're really worried about is the Giants.
Evan
Right.
Peter Rosenberg
And if the Giants take one, you just take the. You would take the other. You have to get ahead of the Raiders.
Evan
Right. I just don't know how they feel about both of them like I do. They have a conviction. Would they take either one of them? Love them all? Is there one you love over the other one? If you don't love either of them, then you're probably just taking a chance. Can you take a Jackson Dart at seven just because you want to secure a quarterback? I don't think you can afford to do that.
Peter Rosenberg
Pro day is going to change that for that kid. It's just too much buzz about him for him to stay a second round pick. There's just been so much talk about him that once we get into the combine and the pro day stuff, I can almost guarantee you he's going to end up on Mox in the top 15, if not the top 10 just by what everybody's saying about him.
Evan
So now it sounds like Jackson dart would be ridiculous, would be a reach at 7. But if you're telling me after his pro day, after the combine, if that's when the hype begins, they project him that he could be a top 10 pick, then seven doesn't look as crazy a reach.
Anthony
I hope though if you feel that. I hope they already feel that way. If that's a possibility.
Peter Rosenberg
Exactly.
Anthony
Like I hope that means you're already.
Peter Rosenberg
In love with them already know what.
Evan
You what you want that makes sense though, doesn't it? Like, doesn't it make sense? No offense to all of the draft Knicks out there. They're going to, they, they don't know the way the general managers know, right? So if he starts making a move, you would think NFL GMs, if they're good, are going to sense that move before it trickles down to all the other guys, right? We all go, wow, I'm surprised that Baker Mayfield jumped to one, but was it that surprising to the people that were really in the know? They got to see all the information.
Anthony
Well, here's why I hope that they feel that way because of the statement they put out today, right? If you're going to put out a statement where it looks like you're trying to prove a point like, hey, everyone, we moved on from. Let's remove how Aaron Rodgers is one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time. That doesn't matter. We moved on with a guy who at the very least can still play the position. Like, I'm not saying he's great. You guys know I don't think he's great. But we, we were, we proudly moved on. We're good. In fact, we're going to lose money because of it. We're fine losing the money because we're the New York jets and we're moving on. Please say you have some other plan, some sort of idea.
