This is the Don Hahn and Rosenberg podcast.
Rosenberg
That sounds like heaven to me.
Don Hahn
Listen live weekday afternoon starting at 3 on 8 80, ESPN, the ESPN New York app, and your smart speakers.
Peter
Into the 4 o'clock hour we go. Don Han, Rosenberg, 880, ESPN. 800 now. We're 93776. Trade deadline over in the NBA. We'll break down some of the biggest ones that happened in the last couple of hours. There was a little flurry late. There were some names, but nothing that really will blow your doors off. Not, of course, Luke, Luca, Doncic, or Jimmy Butler. Who is finally moved. There is somebody, though, a big name that was not moved before the deadline. But in a few minutes, I'll tell you who that is and why that name will be the biggest name of the off season to watch. So we'll get to that momentarily, but we got a lot of calls to get to. Boys, you want to get back to them, please? 800 now. 193776. Let's go to Mikey in Bay Ridge. Mikey.
Caller (Mikey)
Hey, what's up, guys? Great show as always. That call was great. Breaking down the super bowl and stuff.
Peter
Like that was one of the best.
Caller (Mikey)
Absolutely. So usually when I call, by the way, Han, welcome to the show. I've called a number of times over the years. I listen on my way home from work, and I always get destroyed by these guys because I always call when I'm overheated about a discussion, and I disagree. So I always get absolutely lamb based by these guys. But I decided to call today with just like a little story that I think is pretty cool and unique. So there's nothing to destroy me about. I just have a story for you. Is that cool?
Peter
Let's hear it.
Caller (E)
See how it goes.
Caller (Mikey)
So I have a good, a good friend of mine who lives in Staten island is a Polish American. He's not really into, like, definitely not into American football at all, but he knows I am and he watches it sometimes at my place. We talk sports, you know, and, and so, and so forth. So last week he was at my place watching football because it's the postseason, and I'm teaching it to him and we're having a great time. So all of a sudden he goes, do you know a guy named Ira and from Staten island, from the radio? And I go, yeah, Ira from Staten Island. He's a legend. You know, he's on all the, you know, I know him from being on the talk shows. So he goes, he's my neighbor. So we enjoyed that and we had fun about that. But what's even more funny to us than him being his neighbor is he throws a Halloween party every year that my wife and I go to. We have a great time. We party it up a lot. And last Halloween, I passed out after the party on his neighbor's lawn, which was Ira inside Island's lawn.
Caller (E)
Wow.
Caller (Mikey)
I gotta call these guys and tell them.
Rosenberg
Did Ira ever know.
Peter
Did he come out, like, to get you off the lawn? Did he wake you up, like, kind of kick you in the side?
Caller (Mikey)
No. Nope. I have not met Ira yet, but he's definitely going to introduce me. That now that he knows I know him and I admire him on the show and stuff like that.
Peter
We need to get you and Ira together. Gotta get you guys together. Well, we've got. Well, I don't know what you're doing tomorrow, but we got our show in Rockville center, which isn't too far from where you're at, and it's at the Tap Room. And that would be. What a moment.
Caller (E)
That would be Iran showing up to Rockville Center.
Peter
Why not?
Caller (E)
You see that from. I don't know.
Rosenberg
I've never seen him anywhere other than jets practice, jets practice facility and MetLife.
Peter
Well, the jets aren't practicing and they're not playing. No.
Rosenberg
But the only time I've ever seen him.
Peter
Ira has to know if we talk. By the way, there is a little Jet story to watch here that we'll bring up momentarily. It's an interesting one, but if. If we're going to talk Jetson, he's going to. He knows we're not taking calls tomorrow. No calls tomorrow. No call crew. It's show up crew. You show up, you get the microphone. You get to ask questions and give your takes as if you're calling in, except you're going to do it live with us.
Rosenberg
The only time I've ever seen I. Outside of something involving the jets, meaning at Florham Park, Hofstra or MetLife or. I think I saw him in Indianapolis when I was out there for the championship game a long time ago. Obviously was. He did come to one of the sasso softball games.
Peter
Well, that's nice, but that's it.
Rosenberg
That's the only time. So I would be shocked if he showed up tomorrow. It'd be great.
Peter
But I would bet put the bat signal out.
Caller (E)
Now, I got to tell you, though, by the way, it's rare that someone in the middle of the day, presumably stone sober, tells a story about being drunk in which they start sounding like they are drunk. Right now, like, why were you assuming that guy, that guy, he seems like a nice enough guy. That is a nightmare conversation to run into on a drunken night out.
Peter
I, I, I just, I wanted to hear how that story ended. That's all. I was just curious if there was something more to the fact that instead of I just passed out, that then Ira came out and they had a confrontation. I was waiting for that. It didn't, it didn't happen, though.
Rosenberg
What is the age limit for passing out because of alcohol?
Caller (E)
I, I think, I think 15.
Rosenberg
I'll just say. Seriously, how old legal? Because I don't, I do not accept anything post. 21 years old. Like, you tell me. 16.
Peter
Hang on a second. Like, you're 24. Your friends got married. You're, you're at the, you know, the after party.
Caller (E)
Yeah, that's.
Peter
And you're, I mean, I've gotten wrecked.
Rosenberg
After those and passed out.
Peter
Oh, Bob.
Caller (E)
But Don, you're not. Actually, Don, you and I aren't, you and I aren't real drinkers. Like. Oh, but, but people who drink end up passing out.
Rosenberg
No, but this is not. When you're going to a wedding, getting hammered, going to the hotel and passing out on the couch or the bed after. That's not what I'm saying. Passing out on somebody's lawn. Like, what's the, what's the age where you're like, get help, man.
Peter
One of my best friends, we went out. I think we might have been, I think we're like 20. Actually, we might have been under 21. I can't remember now. All I remember is this is the funniest passed out story ever because I met someone at the bar that we were at and went for a drive and left him there, and the bar closed. When she brought me back, he was in the parking lot sleeping next to my car on the ground. And he didn't have his shoes. And he doesn't remember how he lost his shoes. He just, I woke him up. He was laying on the, on the park in the parking lot. Like, you know, the white lines. He was laying on the line sleeping, and I woke him up and he never.
Rosenberg
Shoes.
Peter
I go, where are your shoes? He goes, I don't know. I can't find him.
Rosenberg
Oh, my God.
Peter
That's one of my favorite.
Caller (E)
That's, that's, that's a problem. Now we're in the problem category.
Peter
You think that's a problem?
Rosenberg
Yes.
Peter
You don't know what happened to your shoes.
Caller (E)
I got, hopefully we have nothing tomorrow like we did at the last station event where a guy just randomly shows up and ends up trying to take our cake.
Peter
That story.
Rosenberg
Yeah, that guy was hammered.
Peter
The way Don tells it is better, though. You were. You were kinder telling it on the air than you were when we were together.
Caller (E)
He did not look kind in his eyes.
Rosenberg
Well, I just thought it was wildly inappropriate.
Peter
Tell this story the right way though, Don, because you were very nice about it on the air. But now I think there's a statute of limitations. It's over now, right? The show is over. There's nothing.
Rosenberg
There was a. There was. I don't know if you'd call it a green room or whatever. There was some. There was a room where all the VIPs were during the course of our holiday show. The last remote for the Michael K Show. Last Michael K Show. And. But once the show ended, that all broke down. But we went into that room to have dinner. Me, Michael, Peter, Andrew Gunling showed up there. I think Ray Santiago was there. A bunch of people and other people were allowed in there. And there's this drunken guy, just would not go away. And I'm trying to talk. I haven't seen Andrew in a long time. I never really get to sit there and break bread with Peter and talk to Mike. This is the last time time together. And he keeps interrupting. We're trying to be nice. And I. I said to him, God, we're just trying to have a moment. Can you just go someplace?
Caller (E)
Keep in mind, this guy also Allen, in. In trying to make his conversation. He's coming up to me and he's like, hey, what do you. What do you do to, like, keep your beard? Like, to trim your beard? I was like, my man, I don't want to talk to you about my.
Rosenberg
Right. And that might have been the moment where I'm like, you know, you just got to give us a piece. I like, we love you. I love the fact that you listen. But man, we just. We just want to have some space.
Peter
Yeah.
Rosenberg
He's like, okay. Next thing I look up, my agent had gotten us a congratulatory cake on our years together. That I was. That we were either gonna eat after we had dinner or I was gonna take it home. And he's cutting into the cake. And I listen, I love our list.
Peter
He's cutting into the cake.
Rosenberg
Don't start playing with my food. It's alright for the Celtics to play with their food during the regular shit. Don't play with my food. All right? And what did I say, Peter? I'm Like, I can't believe this garbage.
Caller (E)
He was sick. You were.
Rosenberg
As I get him away from the cake. Somebody get him away from the cake.
Caller (E)
And at some moment, so a manager kind of character came over and fortunately I gave the guy a look like, this is not okay. And he's like, this guy's not with you. We're like, no, please, not okay. By the way, didn't you tell me he was.
Peter
He was trying to pass out pieces?
Rosenberg
Like, yeah, that's what he did. But once he, once he was caught, then the next thing he's like, he's trying to put it on a plate. Like he was just going to cut up slices. Because I like my cake before I have my dinner.
Peter
He wanted to take.
Rosenberg
But every time he came over, like, every time he came, I'm like, oh my God, here he comes again. And why is he. And each time it's more audible, more audible to the point where I finally had to say something to him. So then I just, I just explode. And I saw him, he was in our cake Peter. And I thought I showed tremendous restraint. I didn't drag him away. I figured it'd be better for somebody else to get for because if I had gotten up that it might. There might have been an issue. But clearly he was. And he still there was I. Somebody told me I didn't see that apparently was like helping promotions put stuff away in the van. And you can say, well, he sounds like he's being helpful in the most unhelpful way possible.
Caller (E)
Yeah, he started telling people he worked for the radio station.
Rosenberg
Alcohol does crazy things to people, man.
Caller (E)
I mean, the thing about how crazy that is. The poor guy loves our show. He loves it enough to come to the event. But alcohol is such a bad drug if you're bad with it that it makes you act like a complete ass in front of people who you like enough that you showed up to their event.
Rosenberg
Right. But don't know enough to be comfortable around.
Caller (E)
Listen, tomorrow, if you want to come out and you're socially a little bit self conscious, you like to have a drink, you have, you have a couple of drinks, you feel a little looser. You don't have seven on an empty stomach. Like, pull it together, people.
Peter
Well, that's why you wanted some cake.
Rosenberg
Whatever condition you're in, just don't, don't, don't touch our food. And cake was a bad thing at the.
Caller (E)
Oh yeah, we were already sore about.
Rosenberg
The cake because Flanders gave us a beautiful Peter I and Michael never got a piece of Lot of people were handsy at the. At the holiday party.
Caller (E)
Handsy with the cake.
Peter
No, handsy.
Rosenberg
Handsy with the cake.
Peter
All fists.
Rosenberg
So we could all afford not to have cake, so maybe it was best. But, you know, that's not why I didn't get my cake.

Taxact knows filing your taxes can be complicated. And that's why we have live experts to help you with any questions. They can hold your hand through the process, beginning to end, metaphorically, of course. I mean, they can't actually hold your hand in person. I suppose you could hold your computer mouse while you chat with the expert about capital gains or whatever, which is sort of like holding hands. Sorry. Point is, our tax experts can make filing easier. Tax act. Let's get them over with.

Peter
I just know this, Peter, knowing that Don has been training with kickboxing for the last how many months now that if he ever did, like, something did set him off, I'm wondering, like, would instincts just, no pun intended, kick in? Can you imagine, like, oh, my God.
Caller (E)
Imagine a viral video exist of Don legreco, like, karate chopping a stranger across the throat.
Peter
I mean, just cobra just right in the middle of an event.
Rosenberg
Because it all. It all depends. You don't even need AI you just need context, right? Like if a radio host attacks man for trying to eat cake. Like, if you could spin it. Like all the guy was doing was cutting slices for people. And then Don comes over and starts beating them up.
Peter
Jersey man beaten over cake. Sweep the leg you have a problem with that?
Caller (Mikey)
No, sensei.
Peter
No.
Rosenberg
And the language was completely inappropriate.
Peter
All right?
Rosenberg
And my son is right next to me.
Peter
Oh, that's another problem.
Rosenberg
And everybody's like. Everybody says, don, don't talk. Like, I was like, he's out. He's got my phone. He isn't listening to a thing I have to say.
Peter
Oh, that's right.
Rosenberg
Then Peter starts telling a story about a dog. We'll just leave it at that. Again, not paying attention. And then all of a sudden, Marco lifts his head up. What happened to the dog? And we all look at Don and go see.
Caller (E)
See if you heard what he said. Alan, if you could have heard the story that he told in front of his son, you'd be flabbergasted.
Peter
I think I remember this one. Stop it.
Rosenberg
Stop it. That didn't happen.
Peter
Let's get some more. Let's get some more calls in here.
Rosenberg
In front of my son. Come on.
Peter
800 now. 3, 7, 7, 6. Danny on Long Island.
Caller (Danny)
Hey, Danny, I just want to come clean. I got. I got intoxicated in Connecticut one time, and I urinated on Griffin's lawn. I mean, just so.
Rosenberg
Really.
Caller (E)
Wow.
Peter
You're going to share stories.
Caller (Danny)
We just have, like. Yeah, we're just going to. Everyone is going to air it out. Literally just, you know, what they did, what. You know, all the kind of embarrassing moments. But the thing was, the neighbor wasn't invited to the Halloween party. And I looked at the schedule. The Halloween party fell on a Thursday night. So he was. He was watching Thursday Night Football, scouting for the next jets game the following week.
Peter
That's true. Ira has a neighbor. The neighbor has a Halloween party every year. And apparently Ira was not invited the Thursday night.
Caller (Danny)
It was just like Rothenberg. He's not coming on a Thursday night. Because that's football.
Peter
He knows he's not coming.
Rosenberg
Can you imagine if, like, Ira. Let's say it happened during a Jet game, and Ira's watching a Jet game, and his wife looks out the window and goes, there's a man passed out on the lawn.
Peter
There's a man passed out on the lawn. Ira, go get him.
Rosenberg
Does Ira. Ira. A, wait till halftime. B, wait till the end of the game. Or C, not even flinch.
Caller (Danny)
I say c or D. There could be a season. There could be a fire in his house. He wouldn't leave. The police would be running hoses through the living room. But we're in the red zone.
Peter
But we're in the red zone.
Caller (Danny)
Listen, just a couple of topics you touched on Good day for the Mets. I don't see any negative to the contract. All the people who have their Polar Bear jerseys and paraphernalia breathe, sigh, relief. You get another year of that. Unlike my grandchildren, who apparently I have bought them George Picken jerseys. That was that. They will never get to wear those. They'll be gone before the season starts. That was not a good choice on my part. You know, I look at the game, I do feel Eagles for some reason. I think the Eagles defense is legit. And I've had enough of Mahomes. Peter, if you could resurrect that thing about Mahomes, his girlfriend, that rings true more now than it ever did. That's a tremendous drop. But when you look at these, when you look at the betting of the game, like Joe said, these two guys, it's either going to be Barkley or hertz for MVP. So if you're plus 375 to be the quarterback and a running back has not won it in 25 years, so it's almost overwhelmingly the winning quarterback, whether he deserves it or not. I'll tell you who I like is a really wild long shot because he really is. I think he's the third most important element of their entire offense, and that's the type. And Dallas Goddard, he could catch 8, 9, 10 passes. He's had a great postseason. He catches everything you throw to him. And he's plus 11,000. So how would you like to throw a few?
Peter
Danny? He'd have to get at least four touchdowns to win. They would give it a tight end. They'll. They'll still credit Jalen Hurt for throwing the football. Like, you know what I mean? Like the tight ends.
Caller (Danny)
Even Kelsey's never won. They've never won. He's never won.
Peter
They're not going to give it to him.
Caller (Danny)
I understand completely. Like I said, It's. It's about 11,000. He could catch two, pass two touchdown passes and Hurts could score three touchdowns on the push. Are we really counting those as touchdowns? I mean, he could have. They all could. They all could have marginally good games. Nobody has to blow out and have a 300 yards and all of a sudden you have to look at somebody. You're right. They're going to give it to the quarterback. That's why I think the bet. I think the bet is to take is to take Jalen, Hurts and Peter. Congratulations on the baby and don't boil the bottles. The babies need a little bit of germs just to operate like nuclear missiles. If you Live in a sterile environment. Your body will find something El. And that's why we have all these kids with the allergies. Just. Just a father of five. My advice to you.
Peter
Wow, Danny. Good stuff there at the end. Love the dad advice.
Caller (E)
Listen, I appreciate that, Danny. I'll tell you something. Right now, we're using sterilized bottles for sure. And if I go into the other room right now and say, hey, Natalie, no more with the sterilized bottles, and she goes, why? And I say, danny from Long island said so?
Peter
Dr. Danny, I don't.
Caller (E)
I don't know, guys. I'm not sure. I'm not saying it's bad advice. I'm just saying I don't know how that plays.
Peter
Not buying it. Right? Isn't that. Isn't that what. What Stefanos told us yesterday? Right? Like. Like he has that argument that this father's father didn't believe him or something, but this guy said this.
Caller (E)
Right, right, right. Exactly.
Rosenberg
Yeah, that's exactly.
Peter
That was you and your mom too, right? That was you and your mom?
Rosenberg
I could tell her something 15 times, but the mailman says something erases everything that I said.
Caller (E)
Yeah, no, I didn't do a lot of work. But Danny did say he raised five kids.
Peter
He didn't. He must know. He must know.
Caller (E)
We should be good.
Peter
Game time brought to you by. Tell them or do Irish whiskey. Because when it's game time, it's telly time. Only one local in action tonight, but it is the Devils.
Caller (E)
The Devils.
Peter
They host the Golden Knights, who could go over three here against the New York teams Telemore due the original triple distilled, triple blended, triple cast matured Irish whiskey. Be sure to grab a Tullamore Dew or try the new Tullamore Dew. Honey, during tonight's action, glasses up to enjoying Tullamore Dew responsibly. Well, we didn't leave a lot of time for this. We do have a ton more calls to get to, but let's just. Pardon me.
Rosenberg
Easy.
Peter
I just had a Carlin moment. Let's just quickly recap, if we could, the NBA trade deadline here and then on the other side of enn, we can discuss it more with everybody. Jimmy Butler goes to the Warriors. Quickly, both of you react. Does this do anything to you when it comes to the warriors and Steph Curry, Draymond Green, that whole team, do they now suddenly move up in the ranks of. Hey, they could win one this year.
Rosenberg
No, I don't think they can win one. But can I see? They always seem these rogue Teams that come out of the west go to the final. Dallas, Phoenix, I get. I don't think they're winning a championship.
Peter
But how about they gave him another hundred million dollars too?
Caller (E)
Well, no, see, that's the headline here. To me is him going. There is. It's interesting. Listen, we know playoff. Jimmy's different, so who knows. But $120 million over two years for Jimmy Butler. To me, guys, I was flabbergasted. You're looking around. Miami doesn't want him. Other teams are scared to touch him. And the warriors felt he was worth 60 million a year.
Peter
I think we need hard knocks NBA on that team stat because it's. Jimmy will be fine for a couple of months here, but there'll come a moment where Jimmy's going to be Jimmy and Draymond's going to say something. The two of them. Oh baby, like to me that is going to be worth watching behind the scenes somewhere Jordan Poole's going, oh, you think what he did to me is something. Where do you see these two go at it?
Rosenberg
Baseball players will argue, well, you can't have a salary cap. Our big name players won't make any money. That works in the NBA.
Peter
Yeah, somehow they still get paid. The Cavs made a huge move. They get DeAndre Hunter, who's a terrific two way wing from the Hawks, who are clearly just trying to blow things up as they also sent Bogdanovich to the Clippers. That's one thing. The Suns, you know, they were trying to get Jimmy Butler. That didn't happen. They moved Nurkic. Yusef Nurkic, who's their center, who is a miserable. They, they couldn't even play him anymore. They dump him off. Brandon Ingram, remember when he was good? Well, he couldn't play on the Olympic team. And then he goes to the back to the Pelicans and he gets hurt a lot and he doesn't play well and he's not playing well at all. The Raptors took him on for some reason, so they have him. Mark Williams is the center the Lakers got. They needed one to replace Anthony Davis. Williams is young, he's 23. He has not been healthy. He gets hurt a lot. But when he is healthy, he's a good rebounder, he's a good big. So at least now they know who's going to play center on that team. Now a name that didn't get moved but was suddenly becoming a name. A whisper among a lot of the rumors was Kevin Durant. There was some thought that would he with the warriors did call to try to trade for him. He said he wouldn't sign an extent he doesn't want to play for them. So they didn't make that trade. There was some talk that maybe they would send him from Phoenix to the Heat and the Heat would then send Jimmy Butler to Phoenix, but Phoenix didn't want to do that. So now what I'm hearing is Kevin Durant is going to be moved in the off season. And when you consider this is a pretty good draft coming up, not just at the very top, obviously with Cooper flag, but it's, it's supposed to be a really good draft. I have a feeling that Kevin Durant on draft night or even the days leading up could be a guy that we see where everybody now starting to fall all over each other or creating space to be able to get in the summer. Imagine Kevin Durant moving once again and think about what kind of team should be in play to get him. So, you know, that is the name that didn't get moved that I think now everybody's going to be talking about him. And I would also keep an eye on Trey Young this off season as well. That's what I got for you boys.
Caller (E)
I, I, I. That's what it sounds like, right? I mean, which is this, that's what makes this so crazy. And you have to have so much gratitude if you're a Knicks fan that they have made the right choices and gotten on a path here where whether they win the title this year, make the finals this year or not, you're doing something like year after year you're doing something. You realize the Hawks three years ago beat the Knicks in that first round series. They thought they were on their way to something. Yeah, it's getting blown up now.
Peter
Yeah, that's the problem when it doesn't work in the NBA. You've got to make a quick decision and get out of it. And that's which you're seeing a couple of these teams starting to do. The Knicks feel like they like what they have, and at the trade deadline, maybe they didn't add anything significant, but they do feel like Mitchell Robinson will be like that sort of AD that they already had on the roster. But you add him now to the rotation, if they can get him cleared and get him on the court, that will feel like an ad. Ananoby getting healthy now, suddenly there's a little more depth on this team. And then watch the buyout market. Like I said earlier, a lot of times, you'll see now after the trade deadline, veterans on expiring contracts. Their team will buy them out and then they'll just be out there in the open market and you can sign them for the rest of the season. Just something to keep an eye on there. They were good.
Rosenberg
Okay, well, thanks for the catch up.
Peter
Yeah, that's the recap I could give you on that. It really wasn't. There was this flurry of moves, but nothing that really will blow you away. And I think the teams are set and the Lakers now are what to watch. The Mavericks are a team to watch. What that looks like. With Anthony Davis and Kyrie, we saw a little bit of it, but Lucas should play Saturday. I believe that game was already picked up too. I think ESPN grabbed that game. So Lucas should make his debut with the Lakers this weekend. And away we go on the teams now fighting each other. But the Cavs made a move, a very good one. The Celtics didn't do anything. The Knicks didn't do anything. And those are your top three teams in the East. So we have calls to get you on that and more. 800 now 377-6-ENN as always, looking forward to that. But Don's got some Sandwell for us first.

By getting you ready everybody. Tomorrow, our first time that we come out and do a live show with you. Where is it? The Tap Room, Rockville Center, Right on Long Island. Special countdown to kickoff broadcast. Of course, we have the Super Bowl Sunday. We got Knicks, Celtics on Saturday night. Wally Zerbak's gonna come hang out with us and talk some hoop. We got St. John's playing UConn on Friday night. How about all of a sudden St. John's now factoring into everything here when it comes to the landscape of sports in New York. And we always have hockey to talk about. And Don, I'll tell you what, last night I was watching that game and that felt like a game where it's 2:1 and you're going, okay, the Bruins are just playing harder again. The Rangers were a little bit smaller with some of the injuries that they had and this would be a troubling loss if they lost this game. But that, that Trocheck goal was a beautiful tip in and I thought the Kreider goal showed. Hey, he's still got some jets left in those in those legs. That ended up being a good win, wasn't it?
Rosenberg
Oh, it was a terrific win. And it's another come from behind win in the third, their second consecutive, their third so far this year after having 12 of them last year to lead the league. Now that Trocheck goal wasn't on the power play, but in essence it was almost right because it was two seconds after the kill and Marchand couldn't get back into the play in time. So they were still shorthanded. That was a great shot by Miller or Feed, however you look at it and reject the tip and just an amazing shorthanded goal. And that's something Crider never did. And then they started playing him on the kill during that 50 goal season and he started really lighting the lamp. And I thought it was kind of interesting after the game where Zabanajad was asked, how did you know that Kreider was there? And he said, I heard him. And the reporters all thought, was he like saying, you know Zabanda, you know Mika, Mika? No. He could tell by his. How the sound of his skating that it was him. And that's what happens when you play with somebody as long as they played together, not only on the same line for so long, but then playing on the same power play unit and putting J.T. miller. Here's an example where assists sometimes are deceiving. On that first goal by Panarin, that was all Miller. He didn't get a point on the play, but he hit Carlo back behind the Net loosened the puck up for Zibanejad to find Panarin for the goal. So that was Miller forcing into the zone, using his body to get the puck away. Never touched the puck, so he didn't get an assist. But that goal was all him. He is going to be such an amazing addition to this team. I don't know what everybody else is going to do before the deadline. It's still a month away, but that might be the acquisition that separates them from the pack. So they got a lot more work to do. Two very winnable games coming up this weekend at home against Pittsburgh and at Columbus, because I don't think Pittsburgh's very good and Columbus is all banged up. So if they can go into that break on a four game winning streak, climb within a couple of points of a playoff spot, it could be very, very interesting. When we come back what Miller might actually make this team end up being.
Caller (E)
At the end of the day, man, I'll tell you what this, this Rangers team, Don has given, it's given Rangers fans like four seasons so far. It's like we just keep starting and stopping. No, no, it's dead. We just got to get over it. There's no season to be had. Oh, we're back.
Peter
Hold on.
Caller (E)
Let's put it together. Well, you know what, they're going to do that where Season's over. Oh, they made a move. It's just, it's hot. And hockey is a game where you guys know if you're close and you get hot at the right time, all of a sudden you're having a conversation. So this thing's not done yet.
Rosenberg
It's kind of when. I mean, it's really like any season. But like, the Knicks kind of had similar moments, like little ebbs and flows here and there. But this is, this is what happens when you're on the outside looking into the playoffs. All right, we're dead. Oh, now we got hot. We might be able to make it. I mean, they don't like where they are, but it's made for very entertaining hockey because usually at this point of the season it's like, let's just get to the playoffs already. These games don't mean anything, but every single game the Rangers play is so huge because it changes day to day because there's so many teams involved in this playoff race. What did Detroit do? What did Montreal do? What did Columbus do? What did Boston do? What did Pittsburgh? And so they had that. They were right there on the verge of making the playoffs. Two game losing Streak, they dropped down like four spots. And so you don't want to live that way if you're the Rangers, but it makes for really meaningful, entertaining hockey in the month of February.
Peter
And Sidney Crosby and the Penguins come in tomorrow night. So again, more points on the table for them to get. They've got the schedule coming up. The Blue Jackets have played better. Right? But you got them Sabers, Penguins again. And then I talk to you after four nations, the Savers, Penguins, and then Islanders right out of the gate after. After four nations. So you know the schedule then setting up for the Rangers, but it could be a fun stretch rundown down for the rest of the season.
Rosenberg
And the Islanders are in the same boat. They're right there with the Rangers. Oh, yeah, but they lose Barzell, but then they beat Vegas. So there's still hope that they're going to have to make a deal. Lou's going to have to pull. You can't survive without Barzell. They're light offensively to begin with. And then you take their best offensive player out of the mix, they're going to have to make miserable special teams, and especially on the power play, they're going to have to make a move. And I think Lou will try to make a move. As Michael used to say, he's not buying green bananas. So. And I'm telling you, man, with Toronto, listen, Florida just took over, took first place in the Atlantic. But the prospects of playing a Toronto in the first round or Washington in the first round, again, no disrespect to those teams, but it's not like Toronto ever gets out of the first round. And Washington, this is kind of new for them to be in this rarefied air after barely making the playoffs last year. You just want to get in it, and who knows what can happen?
Peter
And again, for both teams, when you're talking about the Islanders or the Rangers, the one thing you have on your side that you feel like gives you a chance is you have the goalie.
Rosenberg
That's it. If you put Sorokin in a best of seven series, you can't tell me it's impossible to win.
Peter
Yeah, there's very few teams that you could say, well, they have. They win the goalie match. And that has been the longest. The cliche in the Stanley playoffs has always been that, oh, Hakoi can win a Hakoli can upset a playoff. And it is a true thing. And that's why you always build from the goal, from the goal out.
