Listen live weekday afternoon starting at 3.
Don Hahn
On 8 80, ESPN, the ESPN New York app, and your smart speakers.
Jadakiss
401 in the big city. Don Hahn in Rosenberg, hang with you till 6 here on 880. Then it's Mets coverage and then we'll flip over to 1050 for the rest of the show. Taking you into Pat o' Keefe and his pregame coverage of Nick's Pacers in Madison Square Garden. So lot going on. Yankees and Rangers possibly tonight as well. We'll see what the weather's like. I've been watching the forecast because Marco's got a game and it looks like it just can be one of those misty cold. They're going to probably play through.
Don Hahn
Yeah. So, like, bad enough to be miserable, but not bad enough that you can't play? Yeah, like, I mean, I don't know.
Jadakiss
What it's like up at Fenway. I'm sure whatever.
Peter Rosenberg
They know it's bomby.
Jadakiss
No, it doesn't. Temperature doesn't matter as much as the rain right now tonight in the city.
Don Hahn
We're looking at, like, low 50s.
Jadakiss
Right.
Don Hahn
So I hope you brought it.
Peter Rosenberg
Tell me Noah. Eagle's older than five years old. They just cut away from. He cannot be an adult. He's not allowed to drive.
Jadakiss
I was. I was talking to. I am when I saw him during the picture.
Don Hahn
He's a mini me.
Jadakiss
He really is like, you guys. You got to be so proud of your son. And he's, you know, and he. He said, I am, but he's such a. He's such a good kid. I'm just so happy. Like, that's what he's proudest of, is that he became like just a phenomenal human being.
Don Hahn
Raised him right.
Peter Rosenberg
Doesn't it make you just make you angry that your parents just did absolutely nothing to put us in a good spot? I mean, I'm sorry, respectfully. I mean, they worked hard, but I mean, dad, you couldn't have gotten A job. I'd want to follow in your footsteps.
Don Hahn
Oh, wow. I see what you're saying.
Jadakiss
Well, your dad had a really cool job.
Peter Rosenberg
My dad. Well, my dad had a lot of cool jobs.
Jadakiss
He didn't suggest a chance to win. That's all.
Peter Rosenberg
He wrote a lot of places. Yeah, I mean, listen, my dad did important work. Important work. If you were to ask him now, he would say it was a complete waste of time. The world is much worse than when he started. And he'd take, if he could do it all back and just make money, he would have done that. But it was noble. It was noble. It was noble.
Jadakiss
But I think. Did I become electrician? No, but I think I got my work ethic from my dad and I'm sure you did as well. I'm sure they pulled for better, for worse. Oh, not good.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, no, no, I got, I'm like my dad, I think, a pretty good work ethic. It's like, I know it's a good, it's a good work ethic. It's a good work.
Jadakiss
My dad wasn't a radio guy, but I think, you know what he was able to do with all the multiple jobs. I mean he, he worked for PSE and G, he cut lawns, he drove the Zambonia. Fritz Dietzel.
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
But the thing is to make sure.
Jadakiss
We didn't want for anything. And I think that work ethic is something that I, that's why I, that's.
Peter Rosenberg
Why I have more resentment to my parents. I think we were generally, we were like one generation ahead of you in what was happening. My grandfather, my grandparents did the more blue collar hand stuff. My dad went to college, became a writer. You know what I mean? What he should have done was been a broadcaster then. I'm not saying like for example, Noah Eagle would have made it no matter what. He's a great talent. But when your dad is in the business, it's like these wrestlers I see the second and third generation wrestlers, it's just built into them.
Don Hahn
They do it different, by the way, professional athletes.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh yeah. That's what they are.
Don Hahn
Second generation athletes that you see there in every sport now.
Peter Rosenberg
That's what I mean.
Don Hahn
It's the exact same secondary and they're all just already ready for it.
Peter Rosenberg
They know there's something that's built into your ability to do it and you didn't teach yourself because it's so crazy. Like Randy Orton, for example, he's now 45 years old. Randy Orton, since the second he got to WWE at 20. Looked like, he was like. Had been doing it forever. You know why? Because his dad was Cowboy Bob Orton. And so when they were playing around in the bed and roughhousing as a kid, you're literally learning it.
Jadakiss
Well, what do you. What do you joke about? Like, when you get, like. Like, I got a son, right? So the Nancy old joke, like, we're both sitting on the couch and, like, the identical positions, right? Like, doing the same stuff, like the Forrest Gump thing. Because that's my son. He's got my DNA. So if I was. If I'm a professional baseball player and I was really good, then there's a very good chance. Not definite, but at least the tools are there, whether he puts the work in or whatever. But I would think that you got somewhat of a head start. By the way, speaking of the same genes as a guy that created something.
Peter Rosenberg
By the way, speaking of the tools being there, and this is taking things to a completely different direction. Interesting Laurento subconscious.
Don Hahn
What usage of tool are we doing here?
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, the real one. The other day, we were hanging out with our friends who have a beautiful little baby boy who's two months younger than Maya, their third child. And we went to the zoo, and we both had to change the kids at our little picnic table where we were sitting there and eating, and they changed their boy. Atlas and I, we changed Maya. And it's so funny, before we had our kid. Now, you guys aren't the best to talk to about this because you both have both, so you may not understand fully what I mean here, because I only have one. Before we had Maya, I was uncomfortable with the whole female parts cleaning, what it's all gonna be. I was like, I'm a boy. I don't know what to do. But then we had Maya, and now it's what I know. And the lack of anything makes it kind of easy. There's a lack of stuff, sure. So it's just all you gotta do is make sure you're getting everywhere you need to get to. To clean up crevices. It's all crevices. It's all legs and lines. And you just gotta get in there, make sure it's clean. Boom, you're done. I'm gonna tell you something, and it's a shocking take. When I saw what's going on here with the baby male parts, I was revolted and very happy to have a girl. I was like, I don't. I'm not interested in that. I.
Don Hahn
It's kind of gross when it's your child I get.
Peter Rosenberg
Of course.
Don Hahn
Everything changes. I promise you.
Peter Rosenberg
But if you. Now, see, that's what I'm saying. You guys aren't.
Don Hahn
It actually becomes funny getting.
Peter Rosenberg
You mean getting urine in your face.
Don Hahn
Well, the sprinkler. Yeah. That's the first I'm.
Peter Rosenberg
Sprinkler.
Don Hahn
Sprinkler teaches you then to just make sure there's a chores.
Jadakiss
But I get what he's saying does bother you?
Don Hahn
Did ever bother you?
Jadakiss
Never bothered.
Peter Rosenberg
He started exactly the same time.
Jadakiss
But I'm gonna tell you. I'm gonna tell you. I forget what age it was. Like, it still doesn't bother me now. Marco, seven. But if there's any kind of maintenance that needs to be done. Again, he's my son. No issues.
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Jadakiss
But with Declan, it's. It's completely different experience.
Don Hahn
Okay.
Peter Rosenberg
Because you have to help Declan sometimes too. Well, but at.
Jadakiss
When Declan was like five, there was a certain age where. Where no problem with when they're babies and you change in diapers. I changed Declan's diapers, but I forget what age it was. They get to a point where it's.
Peter Rosenberg
Like, this is really awkward.
Don Hahn
Yeah. Like, when he's 14, he's not mine. Like, you know.
Jadakiss
You know, he's not my. It's not. It's so. It's different. And now it's just like, now it's uncomfortable. It's kind of weird. But it'll never be weird. Well, Mark, I guess at some point.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, it would be if it kept going.
Jadakiss
If he's 24, you're like, let me. Let me see what's going.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, but I just think it was underrated because as a man, you're built in to think.
Jadakiss
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
You're built in to think the V is going to be grosser or weirder for you to deal with than the P. But in now, starting with V, when I saw P, I was like.
Jadakiss
But the maintenance is way more important for.
Peter Rosenberg
Way more important.
Jadakiss
Her.
Don Hahn
Yes.
Jadakiss
You just. You got to go front to back.
Peter Rosenberg
You got. Oh, wait a minute.
Jadakiss
Because you got to make sure those crevices are clean.
Peter Rosenberg
You got to get.
Jadakiss
You don't want infection.
Peter Rosenberg
No. It's got to watch out for.
Jadakiss
You can go, you know, seven days. You got nothing to worry about. Just, you know, they're dirty, but you got to be. Just be careful. All right? Listen, leave the real.
Peter Rosenberg
What's your order of kids genders again?
Don Hahn
Girl, boy, girl, girl.
Peter Rosenberg
But you're probably. Your boy was so long ago. You. Do you remember going from girl to boy and then Being. Oh, whoa.
Don Hahn
Well, they were close.
Peter Rosenberg
They were pretty close.
Don Hahn
Very close. So they were in diapers at the same time. Irish twins. So it's like, you know, like it was, it was, it's all a blur now. Experience quite a blur. But you know Zach, like a boy, I don't know. And he was always like tough and like, you know, rambunctious. So a lot of times I go, he got a little too messy for wipes. Just throw him in the tub and just hose him down.
Jadakiss
Yeah, right.
Don Hahn
It just was easy. And he would laugh like he didn't care.
Peter Rosenberg
But you just see it and remember.
Don Hahn
You don't do that with a girl, but just spray him off. Like.
Peter Rosenberg
I haven't even gotten to solids yet though, so what do I even know yet?
Don Hahn
Oh, you can't wait for that.
Peter Rosenberg
I know I can wait. She told us, you know, our doctor at the last appointment said, hey, you can start, you know, introducing some food now. And then Natalie was doing some of her own research and she was like, ah, seems like people seem to wait a bit longer than where we're at. And I was like, well, then let's wait.
Jadakiss
You don't want.
Peter Rosenberg
Listen, we know she's a Rosenberg. She's going to love food. We're not to worry about it. She's going to enjoy it when the time comes.
Jadakiss
It's not adorable anymore.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, let's. Let's go ahead and stay with the milk for a little while.
Don Hahn
What are we going to pay off.
Jadakiss
The Knicks and Pacers? Is that the biggest rival? I guess it depends on who you talk to now. You get old school guys like Spike, maybe Celtics are still something. That.
Don Hahn
Celtics was so long ago when it was something and then it just. They haven't played enough meaningful games against each other and they haven't been good at the same time.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, but what about all the.
Don Hahn
In the 90s, the Celtics were terrible.
Peter Rosenberg
What about the great moments between Derek Harper and John Bagley?
Don Hahn
Yeah, there you go.
Jadakiss
Well, listen, you could be a certain age and go back to Knicks, Lakers. It just, it's not a thing anymore.
Don Hahn
Yeah, again, but that's. You're talking about 50 years ago.
Jadakiss
The Knicks don't have like the Yankees have the Red Sox and there might be. Listen, the Astros kind of climb in and then, you know, the Mets a little bit now it's Astros are Pacers.
Don Hahn
The Astros are the Pacers of the Yankees.
Peter Rosenberg
Except that. Except the Yankees never win. But the problem with that rivalry is the Yankees never win.
Jadakiss
But could.
Peter Rosenberg
That's when It'll become a rivalry. They have to beat them in a big spot.
Don Hahn
By the way, the Knicks haven't beaten the Pacers. Let's see, last year, 13, 2000. All else.
Peter Rosenberg
So the one was the last. So what was last? 99 was the last time they got 95.
Don Hahn
They lost 94. They want.
Peter Rosenberg
So it's. They're two and four.
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Caller
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
You really want to get this one.
Don Hahn
That's as close to Astros. Even though you have beaten them. But it's been. It's been literally a quarter century.
Peter Rosenberg
But you got to get this one.
Jadakiss
But I. But is it possible Knicks Pacers is as crazy as it is because it doesn't have that kind of a history. If you're a Nick Yankee fan, you might put the Pacers to the level of the Red Sox if you're a certain age. But because who else have you played this often?
Don Hahn
I guess because four.
Jadakiss
This is the fourth time you get to play in the conference final. So you played Miami.
Don Hahn
Reggie in that history. Feels a lot more like that Astros team. You just hated him.
Jadakiss
I know.
Don Hahn
You know, there was just something but that.
Jadakiss
But that's a. That's a new vintage. But like Reggie's got to be up there as the most hated. Is there anybody else Nick fans hate more than Reggie Miller? Red Sox is more than, like I said, Jordan. Probably.
Don Hahn
But he didn't hate Jordan. I'm telling you, you didn't hate Jordan.
Jadakiss
You might be right.
Don Hahn
Feared him. You didn't hate him. You hated Pippen. That's why you loved beating him in 94 when there was no Jordan. Because you love showing him. You can't do it without your guy.
Jadakiss
You're right.
Don Hahn
That was different.
Jadakiss
TNT hired Jordan to do analysis on this series. I don't think nobody can't be. In a way.
Don Hahn
No. They'd love it.
Jadakiss
It's Reggie.
Don Hahn
It's Reggie.
Jadakiss
So now I might have to take the. Take the L on that one.
Don Hahn
I'm going to say that the Red Sox Yankees equivalent to. Feels a little more like Miami Knicks. The Heat. Knicks thing. Now think about it. The last time they played him, they lost. It was Jimmy Butler. Before that they lost with LeBron and Wade in 2012. Remember, Jeremy Lynn didn't play. Pat Riley is sort of like the Babe Ruth thing. Babe Ruth left. He didn't win. Pat Riley left. Like, you know, you were. You were an elite. Like that was Camelot when he was here. So there's. There's a lot think I feel like that's more of the of the similarity that, that you just. And Miami has, has had a good run after the fact. But you used to own them. So you know, it's weird.
Jadakiss
You know the thing, a lot of.
Don Hahn
Angry history with them too. 97, the fight and all that stuff. And you know the rules. Like there's just a lot more when it comes to, you know, beating them in 99 was, was, you know, they were the top seed and you knock them out. There's just a lot of that animosity kind of feel to that, you know.
Jadakiss
But you know, it's weird.
Don Hahn
Pacers feels more like Astros. You just want to spit in the ground.
Jadakiss
You know the thing you have in common though is that there's no Astro fans. You have to deal with this like with the Red Sox. They're Red Sox fans in New York, right? And for the Knicks there was probably when especially when LeBron was there, there were Heat fans in New York.
Don Hahn
Oh absolutely. But when the Knicks go to Miami, but when the Knicks go to Miami there's a lot of Nick fans in the building. When the Yankees play in Fenway, there's a lot of Yankee fans there.
Jadakiss
There's a lot of Red Sox fans that come to the Yankees Stadium too.
Don Hahn
So that's, I think that's not going to.
Jadakiss
You don't think there'd be too many Pacer fans in the building tonight? I mean I'm sure there'll be a few.
Don Hahn
There's always going to be some. But no, no, no, it won't be like that.
Jadakiss
But it's interesting. This is, this is right there I.
Don Hahn
Think and think about this. So this is the fourth time they will meet right in the conference finals. That is tied for the most in since they went to a conference format in 1971. So you had Spurs, Lakers, you had Nuggets, Lakers, Celtics, Heat and Celtics. One more and I can't think of it. There's another one. But that's, that's the four like this. So they're the four. There's three others. Yeah, but that's, that's what you're getting right now is you're talking about historic meetings in the final four between these two four franchises not to beg. And that makes it. I think that makes it a real rivalry.
Peter Rosenberg
Nick's Bowles is kind of dead post Jordan. It's just one sided and it was too one sided.
Don Hahn
It was just Jordan Long.
Jadakiss
Not one Bull fan had any kind of feelings about the Knicks, right?
Peter Rosenberg
No, you have, they hated New York. You have the Stark stunk the Knicks beat him once you have, you have this like couple of moments.
Don Hahn
94 without Jordan.
Jadakiss
It's kind of like Red Sox kind of like. You know why like the Yankee Red Sox rivalry never made any sense to me other than the fact that they were division rivals because it was so one sided until recently. Yeah. And the Yankees were always going to get the best of the Red Sox. I understood the Red Sox hating the Yankees, but the vice versa.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, that's why, that's why when you really think about the Red Sox Yankees rivalry, honestly, it only got amazing when the Red Sox were getting close. Right. Like in 03. They were right there. Reverse the curse. Like it was, it was on and then they got it and then it was. And then it was fun all the way up through like 2010. And now it's been reverse where the Red Sox have owned the division so much and the Yankees have been. It's just now the Yankees and now they're bad. Well, the Red Sox are up and down every year, which doesn't help, but it's just, it's felt dead again.
Jadakiss
And hockey, like, I'm sorry, Rangers, Islanders is always going to be a thing. But they haven't played in the playoffs since 94. It just, you have to.
Don Hahn
It doesn't feel the same, Don.
Jadakiss
See in the NBA, football's different because.
Don Hahn
You have Rangers, Devils, the Devils seem to own them.
Jadakiss
And you can't. To me in basketball and hockey it has to come from the postseason.
Don Hahn
I agree. I agree.
Jadakiss
And, and that's where the animosity. Bill has been way more of a thing. The Rangers island, you can't. And in 94 was. It was a four game sweep. It wasn't even competitive. But you go back to the 80s, what was it? Oh well, 79. Right.
Don Hahn
Heartbreaker. Well, 75 starting. 75.
Jadakiss
Well you go back to. Yeah, 75. But just in the, in the, in the close proximity.
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Jadakiss
Of Rangers, Islanders. 79, 81, 82, 84, 84.
Don Hahn
Ken Morrow. Oh yeah, those were over.
Jadakiss
And those are bad. Ranger teams just weren't going to be the Island.
Don Hahn
And then 90. Right. Was that ugly one.
Jadakiss
Oh, that was bad.
Don Hahn
Pat LaFonte. Yeah, that was, that was the dirty hit. But that, that, that. It got real bloody.
Jadakiss
But 94 was just a walkover. Right on Hex Stall just. It was a not good. So it's been a long time. I'd love to get Rangers Islanders again. How cool would that be? Oh my God.
Don Hahn
But it's gotta be where they're both good. Like that's what? Because it can't be like 94 90. It's not even worth talking about when one team's so much better.
Jadakiss
Real quick, real quick, what do you think about them getting permission to talk to Shanahan, the Islanders? You think that does anything? Doesn't have a ton of experience. Wasn't like he had a tremendous amount of success in Toronto, but it looks like. Hire him as the president and then have a general manager.
Don Hahn
Just give me a guy who's gonna set a standard, right?
Jadakiss
Shanti was great.
Don Hahn
And then you got a guy. Well. And you think about it. Talk about a guy that's got a standard, right? A way to play, an identity, and.
Jadakiss
Look at the places that he played. I mean, some of Lou had to run off him in New Jersey playing in Detroit.
Don Hahn
Of course. No, I like it. I like it for. If this is about. We gotta find a guy who's gonna create an identity for the franchise and a style of play. I. I'm all for it.
Jadakiss
Let's go to Joey. Staten Island. You're on ESPN New York. What's up, Joey?
Caller
Yeah, how's it going?
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, so I'm an OKC fan. I actually heard what Han said before about Hartenstein leaving for the Thunder. It was about the money. No, it's about better team championship.
Caller
All these Knick fans think that you.
Jadakiss
Could win the finals if you play okc. It's not going past five games. That's how much better OKC is than.
Peter Rosenberg
The rest of the field. Boston was injured. It took six games to beat the Pistons.
Caller
And the Knicks run seven guys.
Peter Rosenberg
Thunder have 10, 11 deep.
Don Hahn
Thanks.
Jadakiss
What do we.
Don Hahn
Thanks. Thanks, Joey. What are you contributing today, Joey?
Jadakiss
So what are we supposed to do? Just say why even bother with.
Don Hahn
Don't even play.
Peter Rosenberg
By the way, you know what?
Don Hahn
Hand them. You know what they do today when Shay Gilgis Alexander gets the MVP trophy, Hand in the Larry o' Brien too. And let's just call this. Let's save us all.
Peter Rosenberg
You know what? I'm. Yeah, two things.
Don Hahn
One, by the way, a Staten island. And he had a New York accent. He's not faking it, right? That's a New York accent. That's clearly guy from Staten Island. I'm a big Thunder fan.
Peter Rosenberg
But real quick, are you really talk to me as if you also can't talk about. No matter how talented they are. Don't talk to me about a guaranteed championship with a team who's never done it. No, please do.
Don Hahn
Please do. We got Joey on record. He's on record.
Peter Rosenberg
Hold on. I'm going to clean everything up and get this going the right direction. We need to go. I have a special guest on the line. We're trying to get the mood right for game one at the Garden. For God's sake. Can't have this fixture at Madison Square Garden. A proud New Yorker, a man who during the pandemic, brought the Garden back to life himself and gave New York a W when the Knicks weren't even playing. Ladies and gentlemen, Yonkers own Jadakiss joining us on the show. For God's sake.
Caller
Hey, what's up, guys?
Don Hahn
There he is.
Peter Rosenberg
Jadik.
Don Hahn
This is the energy I need today.
Peter Rosenberg
This is what we needed. Jada, we can't have OKC people on the phone right now. How are you feeling right now heading into game one? What's your. What's your feeling on this right now?
Caller
I'm feeling great. My nerves is sort of like when you're waiting for your region score to graduate or your SATs to get into college. But yeah, here's New York, baby. New York versus the world. I'm ready. Game one, Eastern Conference finals. Let's get it popping.
Don Hahn
I need to. I need to ask you about the Go New York song that Don has a hard time with. Peter just can't stand the original version we play all the time. Because it's the original version. It's the one that everybody remembers. We all grew up on it, but it's been redone several times, yet we always go back to the old one. I need to know how you truly feel about the original anthem.
Caller
It sort of gets on my nerves, but I rather. I like the original one more than all of the remakes. You know what I mean?
Jadakiss
It just takes you back, right?
Caller
Yeah, it takes me back. And. And it makes you feel good to be doing what we're doing today. When you think about all the years and hearing that song, going through the trauma and. You know what I mean? So when you get. At least we can celebrate it. If it gets on your nerves a little bit, it still feels good that it, you know, it finally worked after.
Peter Rosenberg
All of these years.
Don Hahn
It hits different now that it's not like Enes cantor at center while you're hearing that song.
Peter Rosenberg
Respectfully, that is canter.
Jadakiss
So what's your gut tell you? You feel good about this matchup?
Caller
I'm very scared. You know, Rick Carlisle is a good coach. Indiana's young. I think they going to try to run us. So Tibbs going to have to use a couple more Subs than he. That he probably wants to use or he ever uses. But I think we. Great catch. You know what I mean? We took him seven games last year with some guys I can't even repeat besides Jock Harden Depot. But this year we, we, we, we. We fairly healthy besides Jalen rolling his ankle every game. But I think we. I think we got a good chance. I like our chances. Everybody talking about eight more games. I don't know about all that. Take it one series at a time. One game at a time. You know, New York tends to get out of. We can go up three points or get a one game lead and everybody think we. We having a parade. We gotta, we gotta do celebrate, but just a little less. No, let's not. You know, one at a time, one at a time.
Don Hahn
You're not all about what's happening on 7th Avenue after some of these games. A lot of criticism of New York.
Caller
I love it. I love it. We always.
Peter Rosenberg
We.
Caller
We did. Everybody, Everybody's gunning for it. So we. Damned if we do, damned if we don't. I love, I love 7th. The 7th Avenue uproar. But on a serious note, we got to take it. You know, let's be. Let's take this one at a time. I hope Spike don't start having a personal argument with Halliburton.
Don Hahn
You guys got to strap him down.
Caller
Yeah, we gotta, we gotta come with a whole new approach about this series and just try to do the right thing.
Peter Rosenberg
By the way, if you, if you notice the. The ease with which Jada talks about these things, Jada does have the new, hottest sports and culture podcast, Joe and Jada Fat Joe and Jadakiss new podcast. That's everywhere right now. Um, I was joking about it today earlier, Jada. Cause I'm like, I'm seeing the clips moving around and I'm like, oh, they're giving these guys topics to talk about now. You guys gotta weigh in on the cultural stuff that's going on. Is it hard for you at all? Because I know you, you love to have a conversation, but you're also a mind your business kind of guy. But when you, when you're doing a podcast, it's tough.
Caller
I thought you was the smartest person in the world. You even smarter. You know that, Peter, I have the hardest time telling them. Nah, I can't say that. Maybe Joe might want to say that. I'm not saying that on this.
Jadakiss
You know.
Caller
You know, I definitely critique the itinerary. I make sure I try to keep my relationships and my Rapport in line. I'm also still an active artist that's in the process of recording new music. So I definitely very cautious about that.
Peter Rosenberg
You already know that it's a challenge now. You have a long history with basketball. I mean, everyone always talks about, you know, sports and music, sports and music, blah, blah, blah. But you've been doing this. You did the, you did the AI commercial back in the day. What is your. And now your courtside very often at these games. Prior to this season, did you have a greatest in person NBA moment?
Caller
No, I was a great personal greatest favorite moment for me. It just really. I really probably have more or equivalent to NBA and NFL friends as I do in the industry. I hang out more with. With ball players than I do with rappers. But yeah, just kicking it one time wasn't even basketball. It was a, it was a, it was a boxing event. But I was able to be backstage and, and get some real informative knowledge from Magic Johnson for about two hours just on life and business and investment. So I think that was a. He told me when I was ready. I mean, he gonna take my portfolio to the moon.
Don Hahn
I mean, he's only a billionaire you might want, right? He's only a billionaire.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Don Hahn
He's trying to figure out what he did. Right?
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. Get yourself a Pepsi plant. You know, who better to be there.
Caller
With, with than Magic, you know what I mean? On a business tip, he's. He has the stories, he kind of knows what he's doing.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, it's been working out. All right, last one for you, Jada. Game on tonight, msg. Well, first of all, are you going? Are you watching home tonight?
Caller
Definitely. I'm going, baby. I'll be on the floor tonight. You see, you know, I can't miss. I gotta, I gotta bring that energy like I did for game one of the Pistons. And you know what I mean? In my mind, I helped him navigate through the series. So I'm just trying to repeat the process.
Peter Rosenberg
All right, so who, who besides Jalen Brunson? Because we all know Jalen Brunson is so critical to this team. Who is that next, Nick? Who you think's performance will dictate whether or not they win this series?
Caller
Cat. Cat has to have. They're going to try to push more guys on them. They're going to try to run different bodies on him. He. He can't go. He can't have a good game one a decent game. You gotta, you gotta kill this whole series and OG is detrimental. Then when they have good games I think that opens up bridges, you know what I mean? And like, we. And Tibbs is definitely going to have to go a little deeper into the bench just to give some. Carlisle is going to try to run us up and down the damn city.
Don Hahn
I'm going to make a prediction. I think we're going to see a little more Landry Shambit in this series. You haven't seen him at all, right? In the Celtics, you didn't see him at all. He did play a little bit in the Detroit series, but that got a little too rough for him. I think this is the series for him. He can knock down threes, he can run, he can defend. I think if you're looking for an extra, that might be one of the extras you see out there.
Caller
We need to get that intel tibs right now.
Peter Rosenberg
Yo, Jada, Jada, have fun and thank you for answering the call when I reach out. Appreciate you, bro.
Caller
Thank you, guys. Appreciate you.
Peter Rosenberg
All right, enjoy. Love you too, man. You're the man. You could, you could hear, like, for a hardcore fan, he had a little bit of legit.
Caller
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
Attention.
Don Hahn
Yeah. But that's how everybody feels right now. Before a series starts, a little bit of like, all right, we had a couple of days where we can enjoy it and now it's the.
Peter Rosenberg
And now this is a real thing. Now we're, now you're supposed to go do this right. This is an ad by BetterHelp for Mental Health Awareness Month. Jadakiss
Just made the list, buddy.
Don Hahn
This is the list with Don Hahn and Rosenberg.
Jadakiss
It's now time for the list which is brought to you by bet365 so Norm from Cheers passed away. George Rent went at the age of 76. So I started talk thinking about like ancillary characters. Now Norm was not an ancillary character. He was in all 266 episodes of Cheers.
Peter Rosenberg
You looked it up every episode.
Jadakiss
He was in every episode.
Peter Rosenberg
Wow.
Jadakiss
Cliff was too. So he was a main character. But I got to thinking, what are the top five greatest ancillary characters?
Peter Rosenberg
Well, you didn't get to think. We asked you and then said you should make a list of it.
Jadakiss
Well, don't take away the fun. Well, I don't think ancillary was ever said.
Peter Rosenberg
People know. Yeah, ancillary.
Don Hahn
Define ancillary.
Jadakiss
Ancillary means that they're not necessarily in every episode though.
Peter Rosenberg
He was.
Don Hahn
Oh my God.
Jadakiss
So.
Don Hahn
So he doesn't count.
Jadakiss
I will tell you, all of the characters that I have here were not in every episode of the sitcoms they were in. They have to be iconic but not a central character. As a matter of fact, the show would probably, probably still exist without them. But even though they were kind of walk on roles or just occasionally on, were still epic and are still a major function of the show. Okay, so at five I've got Frasier Crane from Cheers in 202 of the 266 episodes. And of course spun off into one of the great sitcoms of all time. Fraser.
Don Hahn
Frasier.
Jadakiss
So I've got Frasier Crane at number five now.
Peter Rosenberg
I'm happy about that.
Don Hahn
Could you argue that he was in every episode once he was introduced as a character?
Peter Rosenberg
I don't think he's.
Don Hahn
He wasn't an original character.
Jadakiss
No, he wasn't an original character, but I don't remember him being in every show. And if he did, it was kind of like he popped in. There were some episodes that revolved around him, but not many.
Peter Rosenberg
Frasier is a great.
Don Hahn
It's a good one.
Peter Rosenberg
It's a really good one because he was really well known and obviously well known enough to get a spin off show that was, yes, practically as big as the show he came from. And I'm happy because I know this character because I'm worried on this list there'll be a few.
Don Hahn
Yeah, again, you will know.
Jadakiss
At least this is the one you may not know.
Don Hahn
Okay, Number four.
Jadakiss
Maxwell Klinger from mash, of course.
Peter Rosenberg
Heard the name or the dress.
Jadakiss
You know, now he became, I know the name in the ep, he became a main player, but was not in every episode in the, in the heyday of, of mash. But he was an iconic character. He was one of the most iconic shows of all time.
Don Hahn
The early episode, I think the first season he was in fatigues and then after that he was always cross dressed.
Jadakiss
And then. No, he was always cross dressing from the beginning and then he went into fatigues.
Don Hahn
But I thought the first, the first season he hadn't gone there yet.
Jadakiss
The first season were some of the best episodes. One of my favorite episodes is really early on where MacArthur is supposed to make an appearance at the MASH unit. And it turns out that they get all ready and all he did was just drive through.
Don Hahn
Right. They're all lined up. Right.
Jadakiss
But as, as he's leaving, they actually get somebody that plays MacArthur. Yeah, he dresses up as the, as the Statue of Liberty and he.
Peter Rosenberg
And MacArthur salutes as he goes.
Jadakiss
They were so afraid that he was gonna embarrass like a sparkler.
Peter Rosenberg
My favorite thing about MASH is, is that everyone I've ever talked to has the same experience. If you're at a certain age, a few years older than me, like probably five or six, seven years old, like close to your guys age, you love the show. You got it. You understood if you were just younger. Everyone on my morning show feels the same way. What's that you'd hear the song, and then you'd see the images. And because we didn't understand it, we were too young to have context for it. You immediately changed the channel. We didn't understand it was comm. I didn't even understand it was comedy.
Don Hahn
Because the song was sad.
Peter Rosenberg
The song was sad. So you'd go, oh, I just watched too close for comfort. I don't want to watch this. And you turn the channel. So much so that this morning we were talking about it came up on Whitish Wednesday. We were discussing it, and I made the reference, and I said, blah, blah, about the Vietnam War. My producer was like, no, it was the Korean War. Exactly. We didn't. I didn't even know what war it.
Jadakiss
Was, but I was on during the Vietnam War. So a lot of. Exactly. Which makes it confusing were pretty much the same. But I get that. Number three, Newman from Seinfeld.
Don Hahn
Hello, Newman.
Jadakiss
Now, of the 271 Seinfeld episodes, how many do you think Newman was in?
Don Hahn
271. I want to go half.
Jadakiss
Okay. Peter.
Peter Rosenberg
271. No, less than that. I, I. My guess would be he's in a hundred episodes less than I was.
Don Hahn
Like 130 something.
Jadakiss
44. 44. That. That just shows you how impactful he was. I mean, Newman. Everybody knows Newman.
Don Hahn
No, like, he was always just 41. Even if it was a scene for 10 seconds, it always felt like.
Peter Rosenberg
This is a great list, if nothing else. Just for the information about how many episodes people did.
Jadakiss
Fantastic.
Don Hahn
All right.
Jadakiss
No, number two.
Peter Rosenberg
Here we go.
Jadakiss
We go. A little serious now. Saul Goodman from Breaking Bad.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, I mean, that's a. That's a. That's a. He's not every episode, though.
Jadakiss
First couple of seasons, I didn't think he appeared till season three.
Peter Rosenberg
Sorry. That's right. But then after that, then he was.
Jadakiss
Pretty consistent after that. So maybe a little strong to say ancillary character, but not how it started.
Peter Rosenberg
That's true.
Jadakiss
And then he ends up spin that off into a just, you know, Better Call Saul.
Peter Rosenberg
Right.
Jadakiss
Which was amazing.
Don Hahn
Good one. Very.
Jadakiss
And number one, this is big.
Don Hahn
Let's see.
Jadakiss
Frank Costanza from Seinfeld.
Peter Rosenberg
Frank Stanza.
Jadakiss
How many episodes do you think he was in?
Peter Rosenberg
Frank Castanza.
Don Hahn
I mean, if you think about the great moments in the show's history, he's in. He's in.
Peter Rosenberg
I mean, again, he might. He might be, and he might be in less.
Don Hahn
Why'd you trade Jay Bu. You know, one of the. One of the great.
Jadakiss
Call me back.
Peter Rosenberg
Here.
Jadakiss
George is dead. Call Me back.
Peter Rosenberg
My. My guess would be, though, he could have been in. In 50 episodes, too.
Jadakiss
Or less 26.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, my. I was. I'm gutless. I wanted to guess 30, but I was scared.
Jadakiss
Probably come up with a top 10 moments, which means he probably had an impact in every episode he was in.
Don Hahn
Oh, yeah. Every time you saw him on the screen, you, knew something incredible was going to happen.
Jadakiss
We're gonna be at the shuffleboard court, and then it's.
Peter Rosenberg
So that's what anyone else you thought about.
Jadakiss
I thought funkhouser from curb thought about that as an honorary mention. Come on. He wasn't in every episode, but he. You know I'm talking about when I say it, right?
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, of course. Funkhouser's big.
Jadakiss
Another one. Another one that I went through and not a ton of episodes. I. I don't. I don't have the numbers, but very few episodes, but still very impactful. And they spun him off. Matter of fact, the family. But Mr. Jefferson in all in the family. The neighbor he was. And then all the things that they got into. And then they made the jeffersons and all that.
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Jadakiss
So that's a good one. So those are a couple. The couple.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. They make a great point. Anthony and Jacob mentioned that the Simpsons have a lot of really famous.
Jadakiss
I didn't know what to do with the Simpsons because it's a cartoon, you know, so it's more of the voice. There are a lot of characters, like.
Don Hahn
I suggest you could do the same thing South.
Jadakiss
Well, that's all. Tons of them.
Don Hahn
Right.
Jadakiss
But, you know, when you. When you go to icon. Here's what I thought about as an. As a honorary mention for the simpsons. And I kind of got shot down by our little coffee clutch, Even though the coffee machine doesn't work. Just a class. I think the most iconic of the ancillary characters in the Simpsons is. Is crusty the clown.
Don Hahn
Strong take?
Peter Rosenberg
No, it probably is, though. Crusty has full episodes.
Jadakiss
Mr. Burns is a major character. Right.
Don Hahn
I thought about not in every episode, but.
Jadakiss
Mr.
Peter Rosenberg
But Mr. Burns is in every episode. Certainly neither sideshow bob. Right.
Don Hahn
But they have another one that you could consider, too, because, man, that's a really. Crusty the clown.
Peter Rosenberg
I love what you've done. I'm proud of what you've done, and I want more of it.
Don Hahn
I like this list.
Jadakiss
My favorite line from the simpsons. I don't know what mother said it, but let's not talk s e x in front of the c h I l d e r n sex cauldron. I thought they closed that place down. The Simpsons got out of hand. I think it got it. I, I, when it came out in, in both, 89, 90, whatever. I was a die hard. Watched every song and then it got away from me. Well, there's like 5,600 episodes. I don't think I've watched it in, like, two decades.
Don Hahn
Where would you put in that era, Beavis and Butthead?
Jadakiss
Oh, Beavis and Butthead. When it first came out.
Don Hahn
When it first came out, that was you. You were like, laughing start to finish over the dumbest things, but they were, like, ironically dumb. Like, there was a lot of things about it that were funny, but that also got to a point where it just. Okay, this, that kind of felt. Same joke every time.
Jadakiss
What came First, Mystery Science 3000 or Beavis and Butthead? Because it's essentially the same.
Don Hahn
Mystery Science. Because that's what they were. They were mocking.
Jadakiss
That's what was looking at the old, you know, because it started out when I first was just looking at, like, old, you know, Twisted Sister videos. And like, they took that whole idea. Yeah.
Don Hahn
And turned it into watching videos and the two of them. And then it just spurred. It turned into, hey, let's get them out of the theater and let's see what they do in real life. It was fun.
Jadakiss
Oh, we worked at Sportsville. We had all the games on the satellite, but there's always one TV that had MTV on when they had videos. But then, oh, the mtz we would watch, you know, the, the first Real World was Must see.
Don Hahn
Yes.
Jadakiss
And then Beavis and Butthead. You had to watch that.
Don Hahn
So.
Jadakiss
So that's what I have. That's my top five.
Peter Rosenberg
I love what you've done.
Jadakiss
Fraser Crane from Cheers, Max Klinger from Nash, Newman from Seinfeld, Saul in Breaking Bad, and Frank Estanzen Seinfeld. I'm sure a lot of people have something to say and definitely tweet at me on Legreca or the show. Or call 1-800-919-3776. That was the list brought to you by BET365. Don Hahn
So I give you a little Yankee update here.
Jadakiss
Please.
Don Hahn
Aaron Boone on the forecast tonight. He called it quote crappy. Okay, yeah, but said that expect to be playing through some wet all night is the exact quote you said wetty.
Jadakiss
It'll be rainy wetty and crappy.
Peter Rosenberg
Rainy, crappy wedding.
Don Hahn
Playing through some wet all night doesn't actually sound all right.
Peter Rosenberg
You know what? Just chill out.
Don Hahn
He said tomorrow. Tomorrow's forecast is. I don't know what you guys are talking about. Also ugly. But the Rangers don't come back to New York, as you mentioned, Don. So they're just going to have to, as Boonie said, play through some wet tonight.
Peter Rosenberg
For the record, I just want to be the one who has to say what needs to be said. No one cares.
Jadakiss
How about the unhappy?
Peter Rosenberg
Can we all say it for one night, just for tonight? SpongeBob for tonight. And I'm not. Listen, baseball's going to be played tonight. And if Lindor goes. I'm sorry. And If Soto goes 4 for 4 and hits three home runs, we got to talk about it tomorrow. Yeah, but this city right now is on tilt because of the New York Knickerbockers, and that's indoors, for God's sake.
Don Hahn
They put a roof on that.
Peter Rosenberg
Not only is that indoors, the Watch Party's indoors in Radio City. It sold out, like, 10 minutes. They did $10 tickets.
Don Hahn
How about that?
Peter Rosenberg
For charity? And it sold out immediately. DJ Juanito tried to buy a ticket. It was immediately gone, but. Yeah.
Don Hahn
So the Watch Party, what does that see?
Peter Rosenberg
Close to five? No, it's gonna be. By the way, it will visually look awesome. Of course, what I was thinking about was, too, if they continue to do that, if they decide to run with the Radio City thing, I wonder what hour they open it for people. Because, like, it wouldn't be. I wonder if we could do it on stage in there. Do the show on stage inside Radio.
Don Hahn
City like a pre. Like little. Like, let's get you set up.
Peter Rosenberg
And maybe. Maybe we're alone, open for the game. And maybe we're alone from three. And by the way, we're talking out loud about plans. I didn't bring up off the air. Who cares? Just as likely to get it done from three to five. Let's say we're doing the show and no one's there. Who cares? It just sounds like a show.
Don Hahn
But as people.
Peter Rosenberg
The doors open, the people are coming in. Get a guest in at 6 o' clock.
Don Hahn
Come on now.
Peter Rosenberg
Could be pretty good, right? If only I knew anyone who had polls with msg who could. Who could we talk to?
Don Hahn
Who knows people over there?
Peter Rosenberg
That's. That's the question.
Don Hahn
My. Let me check my phone.
Peter Rosenberg
Check your phone.
Don Hahn
I think I know somebody that might know someone.
Peter Rosenberg
The funny thing is we all know people who know someone. The question is, can we still get it done? We don't know.
Don Hahn
Who are these people and can we get a spot?
Peter Rosenberg
Can we bother them right now? Right.
Don Hahn
Oh, can I also bring this up, too? Speaking of the Knicks and how did you put it Again, it is tilt.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. So the city's on tilt.
Don Hahn
Yeah. So what they've done around the city, I don't know if you guys saw this, is they have renamed a lot of the streets in the city.
Jadakiss
That's corny.
Don Hahn
Oh, I'm sorry.
Peter Rosenberg
Everything that happens is corny.
Don Hahn
West 11th street is now Jalen Brunson Boulevard. Cornington West 32nd Street. That's literally right by Madison Square Garden. 2 Penn Plaza, Carl Anthony, Towns Square. Towns Square. You get that?
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, you know What? Okay, okay.
Don Hahn
7Th and West 25th. Mikhail Bridges Block, West 3rd. Josh Hart Street.
Peter Rosenberg
Show me something name. Name the Brooklyn Bridge after Mikhail West.
Don Hahn
Now, are you noticing, by the way, that the street number is matching the jersey number of the players?
Peter Rosenberg
They won't do this for judgy one day.
Don Hahn
So in the Village, West 8th is OG Anunoby Alley. You like this?
Jadakiss
No, I think it's corny.
Peter Rosenberg
Don hates it.
Jadakiss
Peter.
Peter Rosenberg
I think Peter's. I'm not very in either. But we need to do. Come up with. We need you to come up with a segment, though. Or Don just calls stuff corny. Like something horny or corny. Well, can we do that? Can we do horny or corny?
Don Hahn
I think horny or corny works.
Jadakiss
Sure, why not?
Don Hahn
We get a sponsor.
Jadakiss
I can't imagine there's something that horny or corny.
Don Hahn
Blue Chew.
Peter Rosenberg
Right by Blue Chew. And we just asked Don, does this thing make you horny or is it corny? How about Monday Movement? And Don says, is it horny or corny?
Jadakiss
I'm not being anti. I just. I always hate the honorary naming of streets. Show me something name. Abby be Brunson forever.
Don Hahn
Like in the Bronx. You see the Bronx, they have, like a walk of fame. Now our guy, he was here wrestling Bronx guy, Damian Priest. He has a street named after him permanently. Yes.
Peter Rosenberg
That show, like around the stadium. Yeah, it was a real thing.
Don Hahn
It's great.
Peter Rosenberg
He had a week, by the way. Priest, the Knicks. He went to the game, saw the. Saw them win the Subway Series. I saw him hanging out with fellow Puerto Rican, a man who he once had a great wrestling match with. Bad Bunny. He had a week last week. No, Priest had a week last week.
Don Hahn
There he goes. Look at him. He's shining. Love it.
Peter Rosenberg
I love to see it.
Don Hahn
First of all, starts with us.
Peter Rosenberg
It did.
Don Hahn
Starts with us.
Peter Rosenberg
And by the way, I love his story because Priest is like, probably shouldn't. This isn't really built into his character. But he's like 40, 41 years old. He didn't get there as a baby.
Jadakiss
He blew up his spot.
Don Hahn
Does not look at all he grinded.
Peter Rosenberg
He when I, when I first realized, when he came up to me one day backstage and was like, hey, you know, we were first meeting, he goes, I listen to you all the time. And I was like, really? He's like, yeah, man. When I was an independent wrestler, I was a bartender in the city and I was listening to the Michael K Show on my way into my shift.
Jadakiss
At Bora Cosmic Sat in Philly. Yeah, that was, that was cool.
Peter Rosenberg
And now here he is, man, made it.
Don Hahn
He's over.
Jadakiss
We're way older. 1-800-919-3776. Some surprises coming up, right, Alan?
Don Hahn
Well, like I said, you never know. He's gonna never know.
Peter Rosenberg
And it's also fully promoted on this, fully promoted on social media.
Jadakiss
So it just shows you how one hand doesn't know what the other hand's doing. But I thought we were going surprise. We're gonna continue with the surprise for the people that aren't.
Peter Rosenberg
If you're just listening, it's a surprise.
Jadakiss
Or maybe can't read or can't see pictures on 880. ESPN New York and ESPN Orac, whatever.
Don Hahn
Thanks for listening to the Don Hahn and Rosenberg podcast. I don't want to know how the sausage is made, man. I just want to know. It's good. Hear more of Don Allen and Peter weekday afternoon starting at 3 on 8 80, ESPN, the ESPN New York app, and your smart speakers.
