Han and Rosenberg with you here. Four o' clock in the big city on a Friday. Hopefully you're enjoying it. Supposed to be a really nice weekend. We're down to the last couple of weekends before we hit Labor Day and then it's on, man. Vacations will be over. Getting down the stretch run for baseball. Football is going to be on the horizon. Before you know it, basketball and hockey get started and. And then the year is going to be over. So it's just crazy how the second half of years just fly by. First six months takes a long time and then the last six months, bang, it'll be 20, 26 and we'll be talking about football playoffs, although I don't know if the locals will be involved and mild. And then the next thing you know, it's February.
Peter Rosenberg
It is crazy, man. It's, it's.
Don Hahn
I hate it now. Speaking of hate it, obviously Yankee fans and met fans, not really in love with their teams right now, but if you're looking forward to something to, you know, look forward to with the mets is Nolan McClain's going to make his major league debut tomorrow against the Seattle Mariners. He spoke today. And did the call up surprise you?
Nolan McLean
I think it was a surprise. I was trying to do my best to stay in the moment and just be with Syracuse as much as I could. So it kind of caught me off guard when AJ did tell me. So it was for sure a surprise.
Don Hahn
And his reaction when he got the news.
Nolan McLean
I called my mom and my fiance. I made just a big, big grin on my face. Brandon said my face turned really, really red. And then I, I mean, I tried not to get emotional and then I called my mom. She was crying. I got pretty emotional then, so. But it was just a really exciting moment for me.
Don Hahn
That's got to be a really cool thing, right, Peter? You work your, your tail off to try to make it and you finally are getting called up and you're not getting called up at the end of the year for a team that's going nowhere this is going to be a really important game. He's going to be pitching in tomorrow.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, it's that. It's that weird thing called Heart and Emotion. Apparently it's a thing. Apparently. Apparently it still does exist on some level.
Don Hahn
Now, Nolan, do you think your stuff will translate to the big leagues?
Nolan McLean
Yeah, I think that's part of the game. It's just going out there and competing with what you got. I mean, my stuff's not going to change from Syracuse to here. So I got what I have, and I'm going out there tomorrow and try to do my best.
Don Hahn
So what has worked well for you this year?
Nolan McLean
I think just the ability to throw strikes with most of my pitches at any count. Wasn't scared to flip sliders in there behind and counts early in counts, whatever it might have been.
Don Hahn
Now, he's not the only prospect down in the minor leagues we may see from the Mets this year. Brandon Sprout has been somebody that many people thought might be the first to get called up here. Jonah Tong, another one. So when you look at the, you know, when the Mets had Wheeler, if you remember Harvey DeGrom, DeGrom turned out to be the best of them. When it was felt at the beginning that deGrom was the afterthought. Then you go back to Generation K. I mean, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But it feels like they've got some really live arms down there. And Nolan was asked about the other prospects.
Nolan McLean
Yeah, I mean, I think there's a lot of talent. And Jonah and Brandon are just a few guys that, I mean, you can name a whole bunch. Those guys are special as well. I've never seen a fastball like those two, honestly. And I play catch with Brandon every day, and it's not the most fun thing in the world. So those guys are special as well. So it's exciting for the organization.
Don Hahn
Now it is time for the weekend weather and it's brought to you by Schoenhofer. Tomorrow we've got some sun with highs of 84 and Sunday partly cloudy with a high of 90. And that is the weekend weather report, which is brought to you by Schoenhofer Grapefruit. Here comes the happy. Let's get back to the busy phones at 1-800-919-3776. We do have a couple of lines that are open. Moose in Jamaica, you get the 4 o' clock hour started here on Don Hanna. Rosenberg. What's up, man?
Caller Griffin
What's going on, fellas? I'm chilling. How Are you good? My call was in regards to fraud alert Friday is easy for me to say. Often that's how to drop. But. So, yeah, you're where I'm coming from. I mean, well, I'm kind of joking, but thank you. With a grain of salt and the grain of sugar, so to speak. The whole survival pool, I want to do it this year, except for one thing.
Don Hahn
What's that?
Caller Griffin
Last year.
Peter Rosenberg
All right.
Caller Griffin
And I'm calling fraud on the whole survival pool only because when I did it the week one, I chose the Bills. They won week two.
Peter Rosenberg
Okay.
Caller Griffin
Remember, I'm joking, but I'm somewhat serious, too. I chose the Eagles. They lost, but won the super bowl. And they only lost like two or three games all year. So I don't want to do it because I think the whole thing is like on a Friday for me to choose the Eagles week two and then go on to win the Super Bowl.
Don Hahn
Your take. I, I, I. Moose, thank you for the phone call. That's my.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, no.
Don Hahn
What is he talking about? It's survivor pool. What does it matter if the Eagles won the Super Bowl? What am I missing? He picked the Eagles. They lost. You're out. What? What do you want, style points for picking a team? I. Peter, other than completely out of his mind, what was going on there?
Peter Rosenberg
Listen, notice it. Hold on. There's a perfectly good explanation here. Don Weed, the. No, the explanation is you have no idea what a survivor pool is. Now, if you have no idea what the pool is, then I get what he's saying. But if you understand it as a concept, then what in God's name are you talking about?
Don Hahn
So he thinks it's fraudulent because he picked. In week two, he picked the Philadelphia Eagles, who went on to win the Super Bowl. But that wasn't the objective. The objective was that you thought they were going to win in week two and they didn't and you're out. So I, I understand. He doesn't get it. I want to know why he doesn't get it. And I believe it's weed.
Peter Rosenberg
You think it's the weed?
Don Hahn
Yeah, because it's. First of all, we have a very high audience and it's Friday. Moose was high as a kite. And that's good for him as long as he's being responsible with it.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, listen, handle your responsibilities and have a good time.
Don Hahn
Now, we mentioned the football of it all, and I kind of went off on specifically Dable yesterday. But just overall, the whole not giving us any information on injuries, usually it's because we don't want to give the other team an advantage of knowing who's hurt. We're preparing for week two of the preseason. The Jets Giants Snoopy bowl is not that big of a deal. It's just that these coaches just don't want to talk about injuries. And it just bothers me because I think fans are a part of the process here. We don't need to know the game plan. We don't need HIPAA laws violated, but we want to know what's going on with their, with our players, our favorite players, are they available? How injured are they now? From what we heard is that Neighbors, who has not played, has a toe injury and a shoulder injury. Dabel told us he had no. He had no update on Neighbors and that he doesn't want to get into injuries. Well, Jordan ran on has a podcast called Breaking Big Blue and Neighbors did not participate in the preseason game against Buffalo and he did not participate in the joint practices with the Jets. And Jordan talked about why Neighbors sat out of those practices, Neighbors sitting out the joint practices. I was told, and I heard from a source that it's not a toe injury. It's a different injury than the toe and the shoulder he suffered before a little bit. It's a very minor thing and that he's going to be good and that.
Peter Rosenberg
He'S pretty much fine.
Don Hahn
He was out there on Wednesday on the sideline in actually uniform and pads. So definitely doesn't seem like it's bad, but this is another minor injury for Malik Neighbors. Maybe it's not serious now, but it's certainly something when all these little knocks keep piling up. It does seem to be something we have to keep an eye on moving forward. Not something that's super serious right now, but definitely something to keep an eye on. Now, head coaches and managers, but in this case, head coaches in the NFL, Peter, are always in the task of damage control, right? They're trying to make something that is a thing, a non thing. And they think by not talking about injuries and giving you no information is going to end it right. That that's going to put out the fire. What they don't realize is, no, they're adding fuel to the fire completely because now reporters, like a good one, like Jordan is gonna find out what's going on. And now he's found out that it's another minor injury. And now we're left to do what Peter speculate.
Peter Rosenberg
Yep.
Don Hahn
Is it serious? Is it minor? How much of a problem this is gonna be now, again, I'm not Asking for state secrets, but this is a non story. If yesterday when Dabel was asked about neighbors say, listen, he's got a few little aches and pains here, but we believe he's going to be fine. Or we're keeping an eye on some things, but they're just minor injuries. Now there'll still be speculation and maybe there'll be people that flat out won't believe Dable, but that little bit of information would go a long way. Right, but when you're defiant, we're not going to talk about injury. I don't know if you still have the cut there, Jacob, but replay the cut if you can. Yesterday, when Brian Dabel was asked about the situation with the injuries surrounding Malik Neighbors. Yeah, you know, not going to get into injuries. He's working hard to get back. You gave it nothing. So now we're left to speculate what would be so wrong. Peter, if he just throws that. Yeah, he's got a couple of little things going on. Not a big deal. He was out there Wednesday. You guys saw him. It's all good. Doesn't that end it? If he thinks he's putting it to bed, he's waking it up and throwing it out of bed. By not giving me any information.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, maybe it's. And again, here comes the speculation. But hearing what I just heard, that says to me that there's something else going on.
Don Hahn
Right.
Peter Rosenberg
It is more concerning than you thought.
Don Hahn
So has to be. Right. But. And in the media in which we're part of, we'll get criticized by the teams by the coaches that were. Why you're speculating. Why are you giving false information? Listen, they're just trying to find. They're trying to get to the bottom line of the information you're not providing us. And I mentioned it yesterday, Peter, that I don't need to even know what is ailing him. Like when the NHL does the whole upper body, lower bodyguard. I just want to know his availability. Is he going to play in the preseason game against the Jets? Is there any concern that he's not going to be available week one against Washington? I mean, just give us a little bit, you know, leaving us out of the process may seem like you're saving yourself a lot of aggravation, but I think he's just caus more and I think we are entitled as fans to get a little bit more information about the teams that we pay PSLs to and pay for tickets and buy the NFL package and buy the jerseys and all the things that basically prop this sport. Up to be the number one sport and print money they do because of the fans.
Peter Rosenberg
I just don't unders. Again. I said this yesterday. I just don't understand unless he's concerned, like unless we're playing a game, that this neighbor's thing is going to drag on into the first few weeks of the regular season. I'm trying to understand what the downside is to give him a legitimate update. Now, maybe Don, if they're really worried it might be serious, but they're hoping it's not. You know, there's a certain little bit of wishful thinking and let's just keep things, you know, but if it's not a serious thing, I just don't get the upside.
Don Hahn
Right.
Peter Rosenberg
It adds to your point. It just makes people talk more.
Don Hahn
And, and again, you said he's got, you know, the toe show. It's not the toe of the show. Just like it's a little something, you know, no big deal. We're going to keep an eye on it, but we don't think it's going to be anything that's going to hold him out of meaningful games and meaningful practices. He'll be ready. And if he's not ready, then you just say, we thought he was going to be ready, but turns out that he's not ready. And we'll, we'll give you an update on when he is ready, but we're not going to talk about injuries. It's none of your business. Stop it.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, I just can't quite gather why a coach talks if they can't speak on injuries.
Don Hahn
I think it's. I think it's. And as far as the strategy, if indeed he is concerned about beating the jets, maybe it's Dable's long lost will of winning the Snoopy bowl because it's a really cool trophy, then from a strategy standpoint, wouldn't you want to let the opposition think that there's a possibility he's going to play when he's not? You know, if I'm preparing for you and then you don't play, you've made my job easier. I'd rather think he's going to be hurt and then he does play. So if you're going to throw a false information, give me information that he's actually better than he is.
Peter Rosenberg
Right.
Don Hahn
I do think a lot of this is just the strategy that these coaches, they don't want to have to deal with it. So maybe you'll stop asking him if I'm really mean about it. And most fans always Side with the coaches. Anyway, they love. They loved Popovich and Tortorella ripping into the media because they hate us. But then what do the fans ask us, Peter, when they see us? Hey, Don, you're Jim. You hear anything about neighbors? People do care about this stuff.
Peter Rosenberg
I don't get it. I never understood this about football coaches. And again, I'm worried that in New York, we are filled with an incredible combination of Mr. Joe football types. We know Aaron Glenn so far appears to be Mr. Joe Football.
Don Hahn
And as long as it's who you are, I guess I got no problem with it because some people are like that. They don't like.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, no. Can I add to that, though?
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
As long as it's who you are and as long as your product is in a steaming hot pile of cow dung. Well, that's because if you're Mr. Joe Football, but the product is cow dung. I don't need you talking down to me. Don't, don't. I don't want to hear Jordan Ronan get talked to like he's a moron when you just scored a combined total of three points in two weeks. It just doesn't play right.
Don Hahn
Which has been on the table with both these table teams over the last couple of years.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, certainly the Dable teams. Yes. Offensively for sure.
Don Hahn
A lot of the in the groove of the Popovich, Belichick eras, you were right. It didn't matter because they were winning. So if they treated people like animals, it didn't matter because they were winning championships. When you start to lose, then people get irritated with it. But, you know, again, I was fortunate enough to get to know John Tortorella and I can honestly tell you that just like that's kind of who he was. He wasn't pretending to be something that he wasn't. He genuinely didn't like to deal with the media and he just, he couldn't hide it. But sometimes I do believe it's, you know, before we start winning, let me lay the groundwork and how there's a new sheriff in town, but it's all just talk. It's all just garbage. Just go out there and win. I've seen. I've seen coaches be mean and win. I've seen people like Tony Dungy was the nicest person walking the face of the earth win. Right. Andy Reid seems like a really nice guy, doesn't he? He seems lovely and he can't stop himself from winning championships. And I've seen Jimmie Johnson, you know, from the Dallas Cowboys, who basically had football Ahead of, you know, God and family. And he won. Be good at what you do, Peter. And then you win. When you're bad at what you do, you lose. Doesn't matter how you deal with things. Adam Gase didn't get fired from the jets because he was seen flying tacos at his press conference. He got fired because he wasn't good at what he did. Right.
Peter Rosenberg
You know, the tacos part just ends up becoming fodder.
Don Hahn
Right. It just. People don't know what I'm talking about. You'll find it on YouTube.
Peter Rosenberg
What's his face? Who had the horrifying haircut again?
Don Hahn
Well, there was McAdoo with the haircut and didn't fit him. That's not why he got fired.
Peter Rosenberg
Exactly. Again, had he won, we would have seen his physical transformation. He would have gotten new suits, everyone. It would have been great.
Don Hahn
And everybody walking around, suits too big for them. You know, it would become a thing.
Peter Rosenberg
Dan Campbell's great. No one has anything to say about Dan Campbell anymore.
Don Hahn
No, the chewing in knees that people. I think people in Detroit are doing that now.
Peter Rosenberg
They might actually chew knees. It might become like the Nat. The State pastime because the team is.
Don Hahn
So good and I don't want to. I don't want to kill him. He doesn't. He's not here to defend himself. But Joe Judge won the press conference so well that Michael K Was convinced he was going to the hall of Fame, not me. Guess what? Not so much. No, you. You got. You nailed him and Pat Shermer. You got that both right.
Peter Rosenberg
You know, by the way, it's become a pretty easy bet. I mean, you can just bet that way every single time. And you're shooting at a. So far, a perfect clip.
Don Hahn
Right. That the jets and Giants got the wrong coach.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, if I'd been betting that every year since I got to the radio.
Don Hahn
Station, you would have got it wrong a couple of times, but most of the time, you would have got it right. He'd be working at what, like an 80%?
Peter Rosenberg
Well, you know, it depends.
Don Hahn
Would you have.
Peter Rosenberg
Would you have, like, how long does it take before you say it's wrong? I mean, someone has actually put together a couple winning seasons, right?
Don Hahn
Yeah, that would be something. That would be nice.
Peter Rosenberg
So that hasn't happened.
Don Hahn
No, there haven't been winning seasons. No, the last one you would. The last coach you'd have gotten right. And maybe you'll get it right with Dable. We'll see. But the last time they got it right was Coughlin and The last time the jets got it right, I guess Rex, I guess it was right. Then it turned wrong.
Peter Rosenberg
I mean, listen, I don't want to say that Todd Bowles was like an abject failure, a disaster.
Don Hahn
Well, it depends whether you're good. He did have a winning record in his first year and he ended up being. He is a good coach.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, he's shown that.
Don Hahn
Just not a good coach here.
Peter Rosenberg
No, it's. It seems Todd Bowles is a. Is an NFL head coach. That seems clear.
Don Hahn
Yeah. Anthony asks a great question. Who is the last good coach in New York now? Because Yankee fans will refuse to have Boone be that, even though statistically he's good. But Yankee fans would throw up in their mouth if we said, Aaron Boone's been good. So who is the last coach that everybody really consider good? Nick fans. A lot of them didn't love Tibbs, but it's hard to say he wasn't good, but he just got fired.
Peter Rosenberg
Can I ask you a question?
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
It's related to football, but not related to this conversation. People are starting to throw around speculative, speculative Micah Parsons packages. Right. Even though the Cowboys are saying absolutely not, he's going nowhere.
Don Hahn
Right.
Peter Rosenberg
You've gotten a good chance to get your eyes on Micah Parsons, right? Sure.
Don Hahn
Very good player.
Peter Rosenberg
What do you think? What is a worthwhile, reasonable package to try to get Micah Parsons? If you're a team. If you're a pretty good team, like you're not in the doldrums, you're a pretty good team looking to take the step to a very good team. And you think that getting strong up front could be a major piece for you. What are you willing to give up for Micah Parsons?
Don Hahn
And I know that he'll be happy and sign.
Peter Rosenberg
He's coming, he's playing, you're going to get him.
Don Hahn
And he fits in my cap. So it's just. No, I would start with a first round pick because I'd be very happy to have any first round pick be as good as him, but then build off from there.
Peter Rosenberg
Right. But how far do you go?
Don Hahn
He's so young, too.
Peter Rosenberg
He's so young and healthy. Because I'll tell you what's being.
Don Hahn
There's a rumor, okay.
Peter Rosenberg
About what the packers have in a.
Don Hahn
Package and that would be a team you would think, just Right.
Peter Rosenberg
Right.
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
Trying to take the step. I mean, the packers are pretty unsure entity at this point, maybe as unsure an entity as they've been in a very long time. But, you know, they're a competitive team. They have A guy who might be the quarterback. And the rumored offer for Micah Parsons.
Don Hahn
Is.
Peter Rosenberg
Two firsts, a second, and a talented defensive player.
Don Hahn
That's a lot.
Peter Rosenberg
That's a haul.
Don Hahn
That's. That's. That's too much because that's.
Peter Rosenberg
Two firsts is a lot.
Don Hahn
I was going to say like a first, a second, maybe the next year. Again, I don't know. Their roster usually don't see players dealt like that. But if I'm taking a talented defensive player, replacing him with obviously a much better defensive player, but I still sent out a decent defensive player in the process, and then. And now I'm not drafting the first round until 28. No, that's too much.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. Yeah. I think a fir. I think maybe you remove the second first. A first, a second and a player. I think we could have a conversation.
Don Hahn
That's a conversation for sure. And again, not knowing who the player is, but you're telling me a talented defensive player, if it's a. If it's a talented defensive player that's at a position that I feel have a surplus. So not knowing that player, but that I'm cool with that.
Peter Rosenberg
Mike T. Saying there are offers from the Bills, Lions and Bucks also out there to try to get Parsons, but.
Don Hahn
I don't think the Cowboys are going to do it. Now. If they're. They do it. If it's what being rumored the packers would give up, they would do it, but I can't imagine anybody's going to give up two ones.
Peter Rosenberg
Apologies. I want to correct myself.
Don Hahn
Sorry. Oh, no.
Peter Rosenberg
Tannenbaum speculated on what he would give if he were those teams, not that there are actual tangible offers out there.
Don Hahn
So that's what he would give up.
Peter Rosenberg
No, no, no. The packers wanted is an actual rumor that's out there.
Don Hahn
From who? Ballard?
Peter Rosenberg
No, no, he didn't make up the rumor, but he did report it to me, though.
Don Hahn
Oh, so. So Tannenbaum is speculating, though those teams might be interested. But there.
Peter Rosenberg
Yes. And Tannenbaum here, his Bills proposal is two first rounders and defensive tackle Ed Oliver. That's his bill's.
Don Hahn
Well, listen, they're a team, but God, that's a lot. I mean, I guess the theory is, listen, I'm probably gonna be drafting like 30th, the next couple of years. So really, what am I giving up? And if I go in a Super bowl, nobody's gonna care. So it's a little different, but it's still a lot.
Peter Rosenberg
It's hard, man. But Parsons is generational. There's no. I mean, they just, Micah Parsons just don't come around.
Don Hahn
So no, they don't become available. So that's why I think, you know, you start speculating about what you're going to have to give up. But it's probably going to take something like that for the cowboys to blink.
Peter Rosenberg

Don Hahn
I'm a fraud with a capital F.
Podcast Announcer
Is your friend a fraud?
Peter Rosenberg
I have been a complete and utter fraud.
Podcast Announcer
Are you a fraud?
Don Hahn
What is fraud?
Podcast Announcer
Let's ask Dom McGregor.
Peter Rosenberg
Screw.
Don Hahn
Go scratch yourself.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh yeah, go scratch yourself. As Don Lagreca famously just said. Welcome to Fraud Alert Friday, ladies and gentlemen. It's a special, special moment every single Friday and you can participate by sending your emails. DHR like Don Han and Rosenberg. Dhrespnmail.com that is how you participate in the FUAD. Don, you ready?
Don Hahn
I'm ready.
Peter Rosenberg
All right, we're going to get on the phone lines. You can do that as well. 1-800-919-3776 hey guys. I'm a Jets fan who moved up to Massachusetts about seven years ago.
Don Hahn
Oh no.
Peter Rosenberg
Met my now wife Tori of two years in 2020. Hailing from New Hampshire and a Patriots fan. Not a Die Hard, thank God. Through our relationship she's been exposed to see the God awful putrid product called jets football and has seen the lowly lows of multiple rock bottoms. Tori now finds herself rooting for my happiness when it comes to jets football and cheers for them for those elusive wins. I need to ask the group, is my wife a fraud or is she just the best supportive partner a guy could ask for? Thanks Dan in Massachusetts.
Don Hahn
Now before I rule, how did he describe her again as. As a fan of the Patriots.
Peter Rosenberg
A Patriots fan, but not a Die Hard?
Don Hahn
I am going to say no fraud because if she wasn't a Die Hard fan, she wasn't completely committed. She chose her husband over her casual liking of the New England Patriots and now she's all in on the jets. So I'm good with that. Was she supposed to. She's supposed to not want her husband to be happy over just a casual like of a team. Doesn't make sense.
Peter Rosenberg
I agree. It was sort of like how my wife used to be with the Giants. I'd be like, you don't care. It's not enough. You know what I mean? I think that's. That's being a good partner.
Don Hahn
No, it sounds to me maybe I'm making a bit of a leap here, but the way he described it sounds like, hey, she happened to live in New England. She's not a football fan. But I guess if she had to declare herself a fan of a team, it would be the Patriots. But there was no passion there. And if there's no passion, there's no fraud.
Peter Rosenberg
Now we go to Andre in Brazil. Oy, Komavai. Hey, listen to you guys. Every day from Brazil. Originally started listening because of the Yankees, but stayed for the bullpen, Coyote and QB tables.
Don Hahn
Okay.
Peter Rosenberg
Can't stand the Yankee talk anymore. Even though I'm a fan, I want to put the Griftster on the spot. Listen to his first calls. Legit cried the day he thanked you all for treating him like one of the guys. But he is a fraud.
Caller Griffin
You know what?
Peter Rosenberg
We know he picks teams like a lunatic, but this week, and by the way, what this is getting into, in my head, I rolled my eyes too. He said, but this week he mentioned something and you guys let it slide. He said his college football team is lsu. I mean, what? Griff, pick a college. In women's basketball, you're a Connecticut fan, but for football, you change colleges and pick an SEC powerhouse. Come on, Griff, you were already a fraud picking teams. But this is unacceptable. Please don't rule him in content and block his fandom of LSU football. You cannot choose college sports, Willy nilly. You have to stick to a brand. Are you going to tell us you're a fan of Penn State lacrosse? Now pick a college, Griffin. Much love, Andre.
Don Hahn
Here's the thing. I could declare Griffin a fraud in my view, being a fan of a college you didn't go to. Like, I never understood that. So how are you a die hard fan of a school you didn't go to that school? What are we doing? But, you know, given the fact that he has violated that rule, in my opinion, it's up for grabs. He likes UConn women's basketball. He likes.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, at least he's Griffin in Connecticut and he likes UConn basketball.
Don Hahn
Right, but, but, but still. Okay, but. So he's. I look at his fandom. He loves the Washington Capitals. I don't know why he's from Connecticut.
Peter Rosenberg
No idea. No idea.
Don Hahn
But he just happens. And he likes the Yankees. That makes sense. Connecticut is Yankee land up there. Especially if he's from southern Connecticut. He seems to be all over the. That doesn't make him a fraud that he's all over the place with teams. As long as he picks those teams and he sticks with those teams. I don't know how die hard he is of lsu. That's the first I heard that he was an LSU fan of all the years that he's been calling. But I. Other than me being somebody who believes you can't be a fan of a school you didn't go to. But that's just me. I don't. I don't sense any fraud for that. I don't have enough information to believe he's a fraud. Does he root for other. Other football teams in college?
Peter Rosenberg
I want to throw something out there right now, though, for us to marinate on.
Don Hahn
Okay.
Peter Rosenberg
All the conversations that Griffin has with with me about sports and football, has he ever mentioned, like, loving Jaden Daniels?
Don Hahn
No, he never mentioned LSU to me.
Peter Rosenberg
Isn't that weird? Wouldn't you think at some point he'd throw in. In the conversation with me about, you know, when I'm always talking about Jaden Daniels, he'd throw in. Well, you know, I love Jayden Daniels from being at lsu.
Don Hahn
I don't know what the lot. What's his football team? Do we know his NFL team?
Peter Rosenberg
That's a great point. What is his NFL team?
Don Hahn
He's also a Heat fan of the NBA. Right. So UConn women's basketball now, apparently LSU, football, hockey, it's the Capitals. Basketball, it's the Heat, Yankees, it's baseball. Who's this football team? Does anybody remember? So it might be just very fluid. It might end up being the commanders.
Peter Rosenberg
I mean, listen, he already does have the caps. All right, but fraud, fraud alert. Friday. Growing up, I didn't know much about hockey, but got into it a little bit through friends. I started to attend Devils games and became such a big fan. I even got their logo tattooed on me.
Don Hahn
Interesting.
Peter Rosenberg
They were a big part of my life and put me on my current path. I'm on today. I got into sports broadcasting and became a broadcaster of an arch rival of the team.
Don Hahn
Oh, here we go.
Peter Rosenberg
Instead of just being honest with the team's fans, I broadcast for and saying I'm still a Devils fan but will never show any bias in announcing whatsoever, which I did not do in my time calling games for them. I renounced My fandom completely from the Devils and stated I was now a full on fan of the team I was calling games for. So much so I would even tell listeners I'm getting my son into this new team since I'm their fan. Flash forward a bit further. And now I'm calling Devils games. And I've stated I have never left my fandom and was always a die hard Devils fan. Am I a fraud? Sincerely, Lon Goodreka.
Don Hahn
I'm mad at you for even bringing this up.
Peter Rosenberg
I didn't know, honestly, when I started reading it, I didn't know. That's just bad prep.
Don Hahn
Well, was that given to you by Anthony?
Peter Rosenberg
No. No. Well, it's in the inbox.
Don Hahn
They said, well here they hear. All right, we're going to, we're going to have this conversation again. But it's time.
Peter Rosenberg
It's time.
Don Hahn
Not. But not all of the information that he provided is accurate.
Peter Rosenberg
No, I believe me, I already heard parts that are glaringly wrong.
Don Hahn
First of all, I never declared myself a Ranger fan. I was a Ranger announcer and I wanted him to do well because I was calling their games. And why wouldn't I have Marco and Jalen, you know, kind of get on board with the Rangers because that's dad's job and I can get him to get, get them tickets to the game and they could see him in the booth. So it behooved me to him to get into hockey by being a Ranger guy and it made sense for him to become a Ranger fan since I did their games. But correct me if I'm wrong. And Anthony, you stay really in touch with this. Did I ever declare myself a Ranger fan? People have a real hard time, Don, with the idea that working for teams doesn't mean that you're a fan of the team you want them to do well, because they are the team that you are working for.
Caller Griffin
Working with.
Don Hahn
And how. And like the honesty, because I was nothing but honest, I stopped. You know, I put my double fandom on the shelf because how can I be a fan of the team if I'm doing Ranger games? And you know, Anthony, more than 50% of the time the Rangers play the Devils are playing. Plus they play them three, four times during the course of the year. I'm calling some of those games. So how is my fandom supposed to manifest itself? So it had to be over. It was just like, all right, now I'm, I'm an announcer, but I always was a Devil fan. So now it kind of works out that, hey, I can Call the games. But it's not like I'm gonna be walking around the rock during nationally televised games wearing a Devil jersey and painting my face. This is the place that I've, you know, I'm going back to so I could wear my heart on my sleeve a little bit more. But once you become an announcer, you know, your fandom is done in a different way. I don't say I would be honest. I'm still. How would that go? I'm gonna be neutral, but I'm still a Devil fan. Like, how. How are you a Devil fan when you hardly get a chance to watch the games and you're not going to be rooting for them? I rooted for all the teams to do well because we could talk more hockey on the K show.
Caller Griffin
People aren't going to be happy with your answer.
Don Hahn
I think we've kind of established that by now. I don't think that you're going to wanted somebody was having fun. And I'm all for bringing it up, but I don't think it was accurate that I was saying it's not a Ranger fan.
Peter Rosenberg
But there's so many pieces of it that are wrong. Number one, you never said you were Rangers fan. Number two, you never said you. Are you saying in interviews, like, oh, I held on to my Devil's fanship the whole time?
Don Hahn
No, I told. I told everybody that I had to. I had to shut that down because I'm now. I'm now the Ranger announcer.
Peter Rosenberg
Right. So it's a completely. You know what it is? Let's just talk through this. Honestly, guys, some people are a little upset that, you know, you were their voice for a long time and they loved you and now you're elsewhere. And I think it's their way of showing love is calling you out for fake fraudulence. And it's unfortunate.
Don Hahn
But listen, I'm not expecting people to understand fully because they don't live in the world of being an announcer and how that's different than being a fan. But now the fact that I could admit that I was, and I always admitted I was a Devil fan. I never hid that I was a Devil fan. But turning that back on now that I'm calling things for the team makes it certainly a lot less awkward than me, you know, disclaimer in every radio cast I did for the Rangers, saying, by the way, everybody, I'm a Devil fan, but tonight, don't worry, I'm going to be on your side. Yeah, that. That would be a really awkward disclaimer for Every game that I did.
Peter Rosenberg
Do you want to read one more?
Don Hahn
Yeah, please. I want to get the taste out of my mouth from the last.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. And I want a fraud siren. Hey, guys. Matt in Los Angeles, I'm a diehard Yankee fan, ucla, Bruin, and Cowboys fan. Also a Heat fan. Whoa, whoa.
Don Hahn
There's a lot.
Peter Rosenberg
It's a lot of winners in there. While growing up, I often had favorite players from other teams, like Griffey Jr. I love Pedro until the Zimmer incident. I love Lance, Reggie Bush, and several players from the Pete Carroll era. My dad would always tell me that your favorite players need to be on your own team. Now. Now I understand, but as a kid, I did not. Was I a fraud?
Don Hahn
Again, not having all the information? I think it's okay to like other players on other teams as long as they're not a rival. Right? Like, you can't be a Yankee fan and your favorite player was Pedro Martinez. That doesn't. That doesn't make sense.
Peter Rosenberg
That. That's a little odd.
Don Hahn
No, but if you're a Yankee fan and you, you know, liked watching Ken Griffey Jr play, or. Then that's a. That's a different story. So, no, I. I think you could be a fan of players outside the team that you root for as long as that player is not on a rival team.
Peter Rosenberg
I'm told we need to go to line one to put a bow on this fraud Friday.
Don Hahn
Yes, we do. Griffin in Connecticut. What's up, baby?
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, boy.
Caller Griffin
Hey, guys. I don't understand. By the way, my football team is the Saints.
Don Hahn
Okay. That's right. I forget that. That does sound familiar. Okay, good. You are all over the map.
Caller Griffin
Yes, I am. But how does that. That doesn't make me a fraud, because I'm all the place.
Don Hahn
It does stick with those teams. But how do we get to lsu? How do we get.
Peter Rosenberg
How do we get to LSU football, though, being Griffin and like, we gave you Connecticut basketball because you're from Connecticut. How do we get to LSU football?
Caller Griffin
I don't really know. I. I think maybe being up here, I. I was. I really never in college football. I was just. I would always watch college football, but I was never on to a team because UConn was okay. They weren't great. But then all of a sudden, I started to like LSU and the colors and stuff, and maybe that's where I went towards. But I've been LSU since a long time. You can ask Anthony. I was an LSU fan before Joe Burrow was there.
Don Hahn
Now, let me ask you this. Why did it take so long? What was that, Peter?
Peter Rosenberg
I said, is that gavel close to you? Because I don't know if this is helping the case.
Don Hahn
Well, I want to know why it took so long for us to find out about his love for Jaden Daniels.
Caller Griffin
Well, because I, I, Why did. I don't know why I didn't tell you guys that.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, man.
Caller Griffin
He wasn't, he wasn't the one that really. I like him as a guy, but the real, real person I love is Joe Burrow and Jamar Chase. I love those guys. And, and Anthony even knows that because they brought me in my first ever title that I really got to see. So you could call me a fraud all you want, but I'm telling you, I've been an LSU fan. I've not changed. I don't root for another college football team. I only root for lsu. All right, so you can call me for a.
Don Hahn
You heard the gavel.
Caller Griffin
I can.
Don Hahn
You want to be in contempt?
Peter Rosenberg
You're going to be in contempt of court.
Don Hahn
You're going to be in contempt of court. Here I. This, this means you shut up.
Peter Rosenberg
You hear that, Griff?
Caller Griffin
Whatever. He can call me a fraud all he wants.
Peter Rosenberg
Here we go.
Don Hahn
You're going to be held in the debt. I'm going to call you a fraud just because you won't shut up. I was going to say, from a sports perspective, you're not a fraud because you're a die Hard for your teams, but you're, you're a K show fan fraud. That it took us this long to find out about your LSU love.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, that's where you're a fraud.
Don Hahn
We should have known this.
Peter Rosenberg
You should have.
Don Hahn
Why are you hiding it from us?
Peter Rosenberg
You've talked capitals, you've talked UConn, you've talked Yankees. You've given us a whole year.
Don Hahn
Jaden Daniels, lsu, the whole year Washington's run. Peter wouldn't shut up about the Commanders. You never said a peep.
Peter Rosenberg
Not a peep.
Don Hahn
I mean, Jay Daniels, that makes fraud.
Peter Rosenberg
Don, Jayden Daniels is practically the fourth member of this show.
Don Hahn
I don't know what took us so long to find out. He likes him as a person, so maybe that's why. But.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, that will do it for fraud. Friday, dhrespnmail.com Very. You want to participate? It was a weird day, but we handled it.

Carlos Mendoza spoke today before the Mets start their series at home against the Seattle Mariners. Yankee fans will keep an eye on this. They'll become Met fans because Seattle's right there in the mix in the wild card. And I guess Met fans will be kind of rooting for the Yankees because St. Louis isn't that far behind the Mets, you know, for the race for that final wild card spot as well. But here's Carlos Mendoza in the pregame. How can you can the team do little things to win again?
Carlos Mendoza
Yeah, so there's a lot of different ways. Obviously, you can have conversations, you can talk to the guys individually, collectively, as things happening in the game, we got to go out there and do it. You know, we've done it before. And in this stretch where, you know, for the past, I don't know how many weeks now, he feels like he's one pitch, he's, you know, one at bat, one play, whether it's executing here, not executing there, and it shows, you know, at the end of the night. And we got to get back to what good teams do, which is we got to be able to execute, we got to be able to make the plays, we got to be able to. If the situation calls for putting the ball in play, we have to do that. If the situation calls for moving a guy over, throw the ball to the right base, cut the ball, making a big time defensive play, like things that right now we're having a hard time doing it and teams continue to make us pay for it.
Don Hahn
Now, the other big story is Nolan McLean's going to make his debut tomorrow. So what's your message to him?
Carlos Mendoza
Proud of him, Congratulate him. You know, obviously he earned it, you know, worked really hard. Credit to him, people in player development. He's a big league pitcher, you know. And then the other thing I told him was, let's just have fun, you know, have fun, go out there and be yourself. You know, we're not expecting Kiros here. Just go out there and be yourself. Give us a chance to win a baseball game. And he just smiled.
Don Hahn
It's such a tough spot, Peter, for him to be in, because you could say all you want about, you know, we're not expecting a lot. Just go out there, be yourself. But the team's struggling. They're not getting quality starts. They just pulled a veteran who they paid a lot of money to during the off season out of the rotation to make room for him. So whether it's fair or not, the reality is, is that he's coming in here expecting to make things better. It's a lot of pressure to put on a kid. And you could say all you want that there is no pressure on him, but how could there not be? The game's going to be at Citi Field, you know, if they lose again tonight, it's hard for him not to be Looked upon as a bit of a savior for this rotation for these innings and try to see if he could be a spark for the last 40 games of the season.
Peter Rosenberg
That's what I was going to say is like, when we heard the audio earlier, I was thinking, you know, he's talking about no pressure and you just want to go up there and play, blah, blah, blah, blah. I'm like, well, I mean, you're kind of being relied on to save a season here. They don't have any other options, Don.
Don Hahn
And I wouldn't put a ton of stock in this because really, how much of a leash are you going to give him? I was giving the example of. And we're going to talk about it more coming up at the top of the hour about having faith in Senga, who is your ace to get that final out of the sixth inning. I gotta do that to the kid. You know, I'm sure there's gonna be a pitch limit. I'm sure they're gonna be looking to get him out of any trouble that he gets into because he's making his debut. So, yeah, I don't expect to get a ton of innings out of him. If I get it, that's great. But I'm sure they're gonna be treating him with kid gloves, as you should for any young kid. Coming up now, another tough loss for the Mets last night. So, Carlos, what's the atmosphere in the clubhouse following losses?
Carlos Mendoza
It's not fun, you know, and you see frustrations, especially after tough losses, and feels like the past week, every night we had something happen that is not going our way. But you got to be able to turn the page, you know, you got to be able to come back the next day and do whatever it takes to win a baseball game today. Because the reality is that's the most important thing. We got to be able to. We got to find a way to win today. But as far as like, like the preparation and everything that they're doing, the coaches, players, everyone. But again, it's about the results, so.
Don Hahn
And finally, do you see the players getting down on themselves?
Carlos Mendoza
Not really. I mean, after games there's a lot of frustration. There's people that are pissed and they're not getting the job done, but then the next day they're getting after, you know, and again, the mentality is win a baseball game.
Peter Rosenberg
So how are they getting after it the next day?
Don Hahn
That's my follow up. Well, that they showed up. Did they go to a buffet?
Peter Rosenberg
I mean, what are they doing?
Don Hahn
I just think I like Carlos, and I'm not gonna, you know, throw him away because, you know, listen, it came within two wins of going to the World Series last year, but I feel like a lot of the things we're playing here are just like just words, just things you say, kind of the just generic. You know, we got to win big game. They're frustrated, but they're still it's just go out there. You got to do it, you got to play, and you got to start having, you know, faith in these pitchers.
