Don Hahn
At 4:30 we're gonna have a list. It's a good one. Overrated by yours truly. Yankees win 5:1. So they salvage a game in Cleveland. Not used to seeing Central Division teams play the Yankees like this, but Yankees do get the 51 win. Mets. They're down now 32 in the top of the 10th inning. The man for man has scored for the Phillies off of Diaz in the top of the 10th. Diaz did pitch the 9th and the 10th. He didn't have to pitch last night so he needed the work. And now we'll see if the Mets can at least get out of dodge here. Just down one to see if they can bring out the brooms. But if not, it just phenomenal. Series Lindor has been great. But the Mets did once upon a time in this game have a two nothing lead. But they couldn't hold it and now we'll see if they're able to come back and win. But Peter, the Yankees again, they lost two out of three. So they've lost two out of three in Cleveland, they lost two out of three in Pittsburgh. But overall we're talking about two really good baseball teams to start the season. The Mets came into today tied with the best record of baseball. Yankees in first place in the east despite their struggles in Cleveland. Like you drove, I don't want to sit here and have to talk to Yankee fans in this way. And I understand it's all about the chip. I get it. And I'm sure the overwhelming majority of people appreciate what Aaron Judge is. Aaron Judge went 2 for 4 today.
Peter Rosenberg
Okay?
Don Hahn
He's batting.415. Do you know how rare it is to have a guy that hits home runs and also hits for average?
Peter Rosenberg
I'm well aware. It's so rare, even rare now.
Don Hahn
And we've seen this guy compete for Triple Crown. He's going to win a Triple Crown before he's done. It's going to happen this year because he's so consistent. But I just, I just hope Yankee fans can appreciate that they are watching the best player in baseball. I know you can say Ohtani, and I probably would vote for Ohtani just because of the pitching. But when you're grading Ohtani and Judge together, you're grading them as the equals of what their bats can do and what they mean to a team from an offensive standpoint and what Judge also brings defensively on a day to day basis, that Ohtani can only do defensively as a pitcher once every five days and couldn't do all of last year after having Tommy John. But Peter, just to have somebody this good play for your team and that he can at least even be in the conversation as one of the greatest Yankees of all time, as blasphemous as that sounds when you're talking about Ruth and DiMaggio and Garrick, but right now you're watching just absolute brilliance every single night. So I know he hasn't hit in the postseason, he doesn't have a ring, yada yada yada, very lazy, very pedestrian take. I just wish that they appreciated what they see every single day. And there's not many fan bases in sports that can say that they're watching this kind of quality every single night. Appreciate it. As Michael would say, luxuriate in it. And then in October, if you want to beat him up, go ahead. But on April 23, can't you just appreciate it? Am I asking too much?
Peter Rosenberg
No, you're not. And I particularly feel like we have a chance here. When you look at what Judge is doing and then you look at what Lindor is doing, and Soto's obviously off to a bit of a slower start. But my, my hunch, Don, is that he will at some point be there too. But even if even just for Judge and Lindor and how well these two teams are generally playing, this could be a year where we have every reason to think about these two teams being there at the end, particularly I think in the Yankees case because of the weakness of the al, I still stand by that. I don't think the Yankees are that strong up and down, but they have a chance to really compete. The Mets have a chance to really compete. And you could have two of the best players in baseball in Aaron Judge and Lindor. It's. This could be really fun. And I'm sorry, there won't be any chatter, Don, about who cares about the Subway Series this year if this continues. You agree with that, right? It will, it will hit different even in the regular season. I think if these two teams and players are playing like this, yeah, for sure.
Don Hahn
But. But as a Met pan, I'm telling you, as much fun as it is to watch Lindor, eventually to watch Soto because I know, I agree with you, he's going to hit to see Alonzo, who's having a really good year. They're not Aaron Judge. Like really nobody is Aaron Judge when it comes to what the damage he could do at the plate. And it just, I'm not even a Yankee fan and I, I, I'm in awe sometimes of watching this guy. But I guess I was, I was thinking about it like my son's seven and he's, he's making his decision. I know he's going to end up choosing the Yankees and it's going to be because of Judge.
Peter Rosenberg
Yep, you're probably right. Although Soto and Lindor could fight that a bit.
Don Hahn
I get it.
Peter Rosenberg
Lindor has a little, there's a little Steph Curry in Lindor. He's kind of adorable.
Don Hahn
I get it. Again, there's a lot of great players. There's a lot of great players. Lindor is a great player and he's fun and he's clutch and he's a leader and he's a great defender despite his four errors this year. And Soto is going to rake and he's going to be an all time player and he's putting up numbers we haven't seen since Ted Williams and he's going to waltz into the hall of Fame. And Alonzo, God love him, he's our guy. Not Judge Not. I mean I'm just, I'm just being honest and appreciate that this is probably what Yankee fans felt when they were watching Mantle in his prime or DiMaggio in his prime. And even Ruth, like Ruth was doing things nobody had ever done before. But like people slack jawed watching this guy play. And you look around sports, I mean this is what Cleveland felt when they saw LeBron James. This is what the Bulls fans felt when they saw Michael Jordan. This is what the Edmonton Oiler fans felt when they saw Wayne Gretzky. Like you are seeing that kind of a player. I don't know. Am I dealing in hyperbole? I don't know because he does have a rival. Gretzky didn't have a rival. Jordan didn't have a rival. Really Judge does have the rival in Ohtani, but still unless he gets hurt, Peter, the way he continuing to play, how is he not going to be in the conversation? Is the as one of if not the greatest Yankees of all time? Even if you want to concede how could he beat Ruth? Okay, well that was a hundred years ago. Two years from now, we're going to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the 27 Yankees. Babe Ruth is not played in literally, like, 87 years. So let's just put that aside, okay? But when you talk at everybody else that people on this earth actually saw play, because you know how old you have to be to have seen Babe Ruth play, unfortunately, if you're still around, you probably don't remember. So of the people that are listening to the sound of my voice that watched all the baseball players play, Judge is in that conversation, man. So savor it. Yeah, like I said, beat him up all you want come October, but, dude, just appreciate what you're watching, man. It is. It is a value. Every single night you go to the ballpark, even if The Yankees lose 10, nothing, you should be able to walk out of the ballpark and say, at least I saw Aaron Judge play. Because Aaron Judge is someone you're going to tell your grandkids you saw play. If you're a Yankee fan at some age in a retirement home, sitting outside on the lawn with, when the grandkids and maybe great grandkids come and visit you, one of those little kids are gonna ask you, what was it like to see Aaron Judge play?
Peter Rosenberg
Everything you're saying right now is 100% based on facts. I hope I'm getting a sense. Maybe it's just a positive feeling. I'm getting a sense that this year there may be some true appreciation for what this man does. At least Josh in Albany feels that way. Hey, Josh.
Don Hahn
Hi, Josh.
Caller
Hey, what's up, Pete? What's up, Don?
Peter Rosenberg
Hey, buddy.
Caller
Hey.
Don Hahn
Hey.
Caller
I heard you. Before I get to the Aaron Judge thing, I heard you play Fugazi the other day on one of your. Or the producer played it. And I love Fugazi, the punk band. So I just. I had to say a shout out to that.
Don Hahn
I missed.
Peter Rosenberg
I missed that day.
Don Hahn
Wow.
Peter Rosenberg
Go ahead.
Caller
Oh, it was great. So, anyway, so my grandfather was buried in a tuxedo and a Yankee stab, and my whole family's die hard Yankee fans. I love the Yankees. I'm the. I'm the luckiest guy in the world. And every time Judge gets up, I really, I do weep. I kind of cry. I don't know where it comes from, but I swear to God, it's the. It's. It's definitely a sacred moment for me. I don't know what it is. And, and, and to see him play is just an emotional thing for me. And I just wanted to say that so I'll hang up now. But you guys are the best. Thank you.
Don Hahn
Thanks.
Peter Rosenberg
Josh seems like a lovely man. Now crying. Every at bat's a bit strong.
Don Hahn
Yeah, I would think he's suffering through some other things he didn't want to talk about. He might be channeling, but I don't want to be played pop psychologist.
Peter Rosenberg
There may be something else happening there, but I do appreciate, I mean, this man is. We are in the middle of something that is really special. You know, like you just saw, for example, you're seeing right now, the Caps, the Washington Capitals get to celebrate Ovechkin.
Don Hahn
Who'S clearly on that level.
Peter Rosenberg
He's on the last three holes. You know, it's getting to the end here. You got it with Judge. He is prime in the middle of it right now and I just hope you're taking it in because when the, when he gets old, it's going to happen pretty quick because you have to remember he started older, Don went to college, started older and he has had physical issues early in his career.
Don Hahn
So.
Peter Rosenberg
So there is a chance that when it happens, it may come at you pretty quick. So I just hope you're really enjoying this specific time.
Don Hahn
And I had this argument with Michael about I think Judge is better than Jeter. I think Judge is a better player than Jeter. Is he as clutch? Does he have the rings? No, but Jeter is one of those guys that you're going to tell your kids about and your grandkids are going to ask about, but how do you quantify clutch? Yeah, he hit the home run for his 3,000th hit, got a game winning RBI, his last at bat leader. Well spoken. But you're going to be able to talk about, hey, I was, I was at the game when Judge hit the ball 500ft. I was at the game where Judge hit three home runs. Like he just. It's awe inspiring. It really is.
Peter Rosenberg
Let's go to Dave in the car. What's up, Dave?
Caller
Oh, hope I don't get hung up on.
Peter Rosenberg
No, never.
Caller
And, and, and I, I'm not a Met hater, so I do root for Anytime Piazza. I'm Italian. Anytime Piazza got up, I didn't even care if he was playing the Yankees. I was hoping to hit the ball nine miles. I love Alonzo, but here's the deal with the I'm 62 years old. I'm not going to get into an argument with Judge and Jeter. I think it's hilarious. It's not because of rings. It's has nothing to do with rings. All Yankee fans, I guess, my age, around my age, we love the guy. We love what he's doing, we appreciate what he's doing and all that other stuff. But I'm telling you the truth. You won't believe me because you're a Met fan. Don, we're not going to give him all that accolades that you are. Mickey, man, this one, Derek, Judy, all those guys that you named, Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, they did it in one thing in the clutch in the postseason. So we're never going to give him his accolades until he does it then, and I hope he does this year. I'm going to go to church with the days that Yankees play in the playoffs this season. So I think he'll do it this year. I'm praying he does this year. Because I'm telling you right now, you don't. You don't know a lot of Yankee fans. I grew up with a million.
Don Hahn
I know more Yankee fans than you. Dude, I've been on the radio for 30 years. You're talking like every Yankee fan we talk to. I mean, you're not. You're not telling me anything. I don't know.
Caller
I've. I've been watching the Yankees since I've been eight years old. I'm older than you. I'm 62. I was born 1962. November 21st. Okay? So I'm telling you, I've seen millions of players. We want to see him hit the ball in the clutch in the postseason. That's it. And we love him right now. We all love him. We can't wait to see him get up. But until he does that, it's just. It's. It's never going to be. No way in America could you ever tell one person he's better than cheated. Never.
Don Hahn
Well, they'd be wrong. They would be wrong.
Caller
You're out of your mind.
Don Hahn
They'd be wrong.
Caller
You need to go see a therapist.
Don Hahn
No, you. He is a better baseball player than Derek jr Never.
Caller
Not even close.
Don Hahn
Not even close. You started the conversation. Never mind the rings. If we never mind the rings, then he's not even close to the plays he made. Oh, stop.
Caller
It was a basic.
Don Hahn
Stop it.
Caller
That's what you said. That's a big hit.
Don Hahn
Stop it.
Caller
In this career. What about the foot play? What about the dive in the stands? What about all the home plate where.
Don Hahn
You got everybody else dive in the stands. You just said the flip play and the dive in the stands. What else? I'm not going to sit here and disparage Derek Jeter, but he's not Aaron Judge. Aaron Judge will hit for a better average. Aaron Judge will hit more home runs. He will drive in more RBIs. He will have a better on base percentage. He is a better baseball player.
Caller
I'll ask you one question. Don't hang up here. Will he have more categories in the postseason?
Don Hahn
Now? Now. But now you're bringing the rings back up again.
Caller
Races, doubles, on base percentage, run scored. I mean, I don't have in front.
Don Hahn
Of me, but it's a separate.
Peter Rosenberg
So you're saying categories. You're saying Jeter is a bad. Jeter has been better in the postseason.
Don Hahn
Right.
Peter Rosenberg
If you want to weight that, and that means to you he's a better baseball player, that's all right. If you want to. What Don is saying is that if you look at the man physically, what he does and what he's capable of doing, Aaron Judge is a better baseball player than Derek Jeter. I don't think it's that close.
Caller
That's your opinion. You're 40. I'm 62.
Don Hahn
I've watched every game Derek Jeter played and I've watched every game Aaron Judge doesn't matter.
Peter Rosenberg
You're 62 and 57. But Dave, you're not being logical. He's a better playoff player than Aaron Judge. We're not going to fight you on that. But in terms of what each one is capable of doing on a baseball field, it doesn't really take that much research to see that Aaron Judge is a more talented baseball player.
Caller
Peter, I'll ask you a question. You just take Jeter out of the equation for one minute. I'll put Bernie Williams in there. If they're second and third, two outs, one score. I mean, game time or down one.
Peter Rosenberg
Now we're.
Don Hahn
Bernie Williams hit more home runs in the postseason than anybody in the history of baseball. I don't wouldn't mind Bernie Williams being up.
Caller
Bernie Williams is like number three.
Peter Rosenberg
But now, hold on. Do you realize you just hurt your own argument, though?
Don Hahn
Dave, let me ask you.
Peter Rosenberg
You just heard your own argument. No, but Dave. Dave. But Dave, this is why you're hurting your own argument. You're saying you're only talking about clutch. There's no one better in the history of baseball than Bernie Williams, and he's not half the player. Aaron Judge is nobody better than the history of baseball.
Caller
And Bernie Williams in a clutch situation.
Peter Rosenberg
He'S about as good as anyone. Dave, I like.
Don Hahn
Here's the thing. Right now, there's a conversation that Aaron Judge is the best player in baseball. Was there ever a time that Derek Jeter was the best player in baseball? Now, he culminated a lot and was always in the top five, and that's why he should have went in unanimously to the hall of Fame. It's ridiculous that he didn't. But if Alex Rodriguez stayed at shortstop, and obviously the PEDs notwithstanding, people would say that Alex Rodriguez was a better shortstop than Derek Jeter. Derek Jeter was never the best player in baseball. He was consistently good every single year and won a ton of rings and deserves all the accolades that he gets. Aaron Judge is a better baseball player. I don't know what else to tell you. Is Derek Jeter more clutch? Absolutely. Does Derek Jeter have more rings? Absolutely. Can't argue with that. And if you want to quantify it with rings. All right, well, you know what? So Eli Manning's better than Peyton because Eli won two Super Bowls and was an MVP in both Super Bowls. Peyton won two Super Bowls, but he was a pedestrian in the one super bowl that he won. It's laughable to say that, but if you're going to put everything on the fact that he won. Plus, if Derek Cheader played now with the parody that exists in Major League Baseball, he wouldn't have five rings, you know, and if Mickey Mantle and Joe DiMaggio played now, where there were three rounds to get through, and it wasn't, all you had to do was win the league and you were in the World Series, they wouldn't have the rings that they have. You think Yogi berra would have 10 rings if he played today? Come on, people. I'm just telling you to appreciate what's happening here. If you want to put it all on rings, guess what? You win. He had more rings than everybody else. He doesn't have a ring. I get it. But he is in the conversation as the best player in Major League Baseball. And if you're not going to appreciate it, then I feel sorry for you. I don't care how old you are.
Peter Rosenberg
1-800-9193776. You can get in on that conversation, everything else that's here for you.
Don Hahn
Mets tied it at three.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, beautiful.
Don Hahn
And they still have a chance to win the game. My. My nephew Declan's at the game and was begging his mom to leave, and then he called a foul ball.
Peter Rosenberg
No, he was. Why was he begging to leave?
Don Hahn
Because it's a long game and he's not even 10, by the way.
Peter Rosenberg
Who am I. Who am I to argue? I agree with him you would have left. I would have. I would have been left.
Don Hahn
So there you go.
Peter Rosenberg
I can't believe that kid is that old.
Don Hahn
I know, right?
Peter Rosenberg
How old is.

This is the list with Don Hahn and Rosenberg.
Don Hahn
It's now time for the list, which is brought to you by bet365. Yesterday, Jack Nicholson's 88th birthday.
Peter Rosenberg
Really?
Don Hahn
How about top five roles for Jack?
Peter Rosenberg
Top five Jack rolls.
Don Hahn
Well, since it's just me and you, let's kick it old school and let.
Peter Rosenberg
Me throw some stuff out.
Don Hahn
You start throwing some stuff out? Yeah. What do you think? You like that?
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. I'm gonna throw out the Shining at you.
Don Hahn
I have the Shining at three to me. Marco's starting to ask me about horror movies. I don't think he's ready for the Shining, but he was asking me, what's the best horror movie? I think it's this. It's got everything. It's got suspense. It's got just so much intrigue and weirdness to it. I just think it really. The Shining has everything. His role is amazing. Just to see him literally go insane right in front of your eyes. It's one of the great performances of all time. A tremendous movie. I've got the Shining as three.
Peter Rosenberg
Here's Johnny. Let's see.
Don Hahn
So you're one for one.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, that's what I should be. At the very least, I'm gonna go with, I know you, and I know where you lean. In terms of our age difference, I'm guessing you included One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest.
Don Hahn
I've got One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest is number one. It's one of the great movies of all time. It's one of the great roles of all time. RP McMurphy. I don't want to give it away, did come out in 1975, and that's. Spoiler alert.
Peter Rosenberg
I've never seen it, though, so the.
Don Hahn
Ending is just so sad and so amazing. You never saw it, do you? Saw. I'm serious. I'm not being that guy. Like, it is you.
Peter Rosenberg
This I want to see. I only saw the Shining in the last five years, though.
Don Hahn
You understand the significance of It. But it's also. And for those who don't know, he's a criminal who thinks he can do easier time by pretending that he's insane. And he goes into an insane asylum to do his time and he becomes close with the. It's an early Danny DeVito vehicle. And the nurse. Nurse Ratched is one of the great characters of all time. And to see, as it says, emotional back and forth, the final 30 minutes of that movie is amazing. I've got One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest as number one. It's also one of my dad's favorite movies, so that definitely swayed me in that direction. But you're two for two, buddy. I love what you're doing.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, I wonder how modern you went for him.
Don Hahn
Pretty.
Peter Rosenberg
How about as good as it gets?
Don Hahn
I have as good as it gets as a honorable mention. Honorable mention. I did like his role in that. It is definitely a departure from what you used to seeing him be in. I do think that was a terrific movie, but I do not who you taking out. And since you don't have the full list, you won't know. But I did not have. I did not include it.
Peter Rosenberg
Did he give him any love for the Joker in Batman?
Don Hahn
I did not.
Peter Rosenberg
Wow.
Don Hahn
I don't think the problem is is that there's been much better Jokers. He was good, but it's. He's not even close to the best Joker.
Peter Rosenberg
They're all different. He was at the time that was an iconic Joker.
Don Hahn
But I do not have Batman.
Peter Rosenberg
All right, based on the conversation we had last week, do you include A Few Good Men?
Don Hahn
I have A Few Good Men at number two. Now, here's the interesting bit of trivia for this movie. He only was on the set for 10 days and his actual time in the movie is barely over 20 minutes. But two impactful scenes. The one in Cuba and then one in the courtroom. The fact that you haven't seen that movie but you Code Red resonates with you and you can't handle the truth is probably one of the great quotes in movie history. And for you. I've never seen that movie. I'm sure you've seen that scene. You've seen it pop up on social media. It's a forever moment. I've got A Few Good Men at number two. It's also great for. It's a Kevin Bacon vehicle. So you can use that in a Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon, which one day I want to play on the air because that's a fun game. JFK ruined that game, by the way, because the movie JFK has everybody in it, but I can connect Buster Keaton and Kevin Bacon. That's how good I am at it.
Peter Rosenberg
How about the Departed?
Don Hahn
Yeah, I got the Departed at number four.
Peter Rosenberg
I know you.
Don Hahn
Best picture. Also not in it a ton. But he's. Costello is one of the great characters of all time, too. And there's the scene where he's looking for the rat when he's in the. In the bar with DiCaprio. Is amazing. The death scene's amazing, too. When he. Remember you saw that, the party, right? Oh, yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
It's been a long time when.
Don Hahn
When he. When he's shaking down DiCaprio and he's hitting him with the boot on his hand. His broken, like. That's a great scenes, man. It's really the last great movie he was in, that was 06. He only did like a couple of things after that. He. He's been pretty much retired nearly 20 years.
Peter Rosenberg
I recently, I told you, I think, enjoyed his romantic comedy, Something's Got to Give with.
Don Hahn
Yeah, Something that's Got to Give is very good, too. I've got that as an honorable mention.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, you do?
Don Hahn
Yeah, I got About Schmidt as an honorable mention, too. About Schmidt's a great film.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, great film now. And for everyone tuning in right now, we are going to get to some big Mets talk here shortly. But, you know, don't forget, we also are going to have to end up back on the air on 880 after the Mets game. So we're going to go. We're going to go hard there now. Is this last one an oldie?
Don Hahn
Oh, yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
Chinatown.
Don Hahn
Yeah. Chinatown is probably the greatest movie he's ever been. Very. It's a disturbing movie.
Peter Rosenberg
Never seen it.
Don Hahn
And it's got a very, very sad ending. But, you know, he's. JJ's just one of the great characters, too. Chinatown. I got it. Number five. So number five, Chinatown. Number four, the Departed. Number three, the Shining. Number two, A Few Good Men. And number five, Chinatown. Like I said about Schmidt, good as it gets, you know, they got heartburn. He's been in a ton of stuff, a lot of romantic stuff.
Peter Rosenberg
Jack's 88 years old.
Don Hahn
88.
Peter Rosenberg
It's a shame that he hasn't been well the last few years. He's been married three times. His last one ended in 2004. He's got six kids. Had a hell of a run.
Don Hahn
Jack. Terms of Endearment, also a great movie that he was in. Easy Rider, also a movie that I wouldn't put in the top five, but he's hilarious in it. And this movie. I don't think this was probably panned as not a great movie, but Mars Attacks, I think is hilarious.
Peter Rosenberg
I forgot he's in Mars.
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
You know what? I think me and Natalie are gonna go on a jack run.
Don Hahn
And another movie that's one of my favorite movies of all time. Bit of trivia. It's the movie why I do this for a living. I saw this movie in college, and I'm like, I've got to do something in media. But he just was only, like, broadcasting. And it just. He's not. He's in it, but it's really more of a cameo. He's only in, like, a couple of. Yeah, I don't even know if he's in it for, like, three minutes. But I just. So I didn't put it in. But that's. I love that movie. I swear to God. I saw in college. I'm like, I gotta be. Not. Obviously not in a newsroom on television, but just the whole thing of Meaty really inspired me to really start taking it seriously in college.
Peter Rosenberg
And Jack's the man. I'm gonna go on a run. I decided you now made me want to dig in. I want in.
Don Hahn
And it was cool seeing him. The 50th anniversary of Saturday Night Live. Introducing Adam Sandler. Cause he doesn't even make public appearances anymore.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, that's.
Don Hahn
Does he go to Laker games anymore?
Peter Rosenberg
Barely. Like, that's a great question. Can you guys find out? I wonder when the last time was that he was seen in a Laker game? Because it feels like he stopped going to Laker games. And then he did show up there. He's the man. He is the man. Also the man. That would be Francisco Lindor. Two for four today. And he's up to. He's batting.309. Although maybe Pete Alonso, the guy we want to talk about. In extra innings, the go ahead. Double. RBI. Double for Pete Alonso. He's batting.341, his 26th. Don, 26 RBI.
Don Hahn
Yeah. How about that?
Peter Rosenberg
The man is.
Don Hahn
That's how many RBIs judge has.
Peter Rosenberg
The man is absolutely raking right now. And the Mets Sweep the Phillies. 43 in 10. This team, Don, is doing things. And they're doing it without Juan Soto playing. Like the guy that they trade that they saw.
Don Hahn
That's the thing.
Peter Rosenberg
He's 1 for 4 today, Don. He's currently batting.233.
Don Hahn
They're not going to pitch to this level. All Year, but they're also not going to hit to this level all year either. So they give up the run, Diaz gives up the run to the Manford man. Top of the 10th inning, bases loaded, one out, the Mets. You get out of the inning and then in the bottom half you get the big double by Alonzo to tie it. And then this from Starling Marte, the one. Oh, Marte Brooken, bat flair, shallow center, dunks in for a hit. Here comes Alonso. The throw from Stevenson on the way. Not in time. Alonso slides in. Saf Top, Marte Parte, RBI single, walk off, win in the 10th, 43 Mets win. They sweep the home, stand a seven game winning streak. And Marte getting dunked on with water out near shortstop. They're trying to rip that jersey off. Hugs for Marte who has won it in the 10th. And how about this? Padres lost today, so the Mets have the best record in baseball. I know, 18 and seven is.
Peter Rosenberg
No, that's a good.
Don Hahn
It's only. You're eighth, 23rd. You've got a five game lead on the Phillies. Remember all we heard and listen, I led the hit parade. It's going to be tough, tough division. You got the Phillies, you got the Braves, and I do think those teams are going to be heard from. But you just swept the Braves. You're 12 and one at home. You've won seven straight games. You've got a run differential of plus 36. That's five better than the Yankees. The start they got off to, it's the second best run differential in baseball next to the Cubs, and also the only plus run differential in the entire division. The Braves are 10 and 14. Braves have actually played pretty well of late. But for the Mets to be in the situation that they're in right now, you just got, you're feeling it like today's one of those things. Like I go into today's game and I say, all right, if they lose today, no big deal, you still won the series. That's what's important. Win the series and they get the sweep. And they do it in the fashion they did come from behind, bottom of the 10th inning, everybody contributing, Lindor contributing and Soto doing what he's doing. Of course, Alonso gets the big double. It's. It just got a feeling like anything you wish for, it's starting to happen. And I knew this team was going to be good. I just didn't think they were going to be this good. And to know that they can actually be better in certain spots, I mean, come on, Juan. Soto is not going to be hitting where he's hitting all year long.
Peter Rosenberg
No, he's.230 right now.
Don Hahn
There's going to be a time where he's going to be carrying this team when they struggle offensively.
Peter Rosenberg
Can I tell you something I love, though? Remember, Remember before the season started, I was kind of asking the question of, like, whose team is it gonna be? The nature of how it started really does lend itself to that. Like, Soto may be like, the dude, but it's. It's Lindor's team. But this helps that case.
Don Hahn
But you could also make the case with Alonzo too. Like, all right, Soto hasn't done much, but you don't think his presence has an elevated. Lindor and Alonzo, like, here they are with a bit of a chip on their shoulder. Like, all right, this guy's coming in. He's the man. He's going to get all the attention, he's making all the money. He's the reason why everybody's picking us to make the playoffs, blah, blah, blah. Well, you know what? We were a playoff team last year. Came within two wins of going to the World Series last year. And you know what? Lindor could say, this is still my team. Or Pete could say, hey, this is still my team. And I think the presence of Soto has brought out the best in Lindor and Alonso. And then eventually Soto's gonna find it. Marte's been struggling. He had the big hit today. Beatty's been struggling. He had a 2:1 homer to get things going. It's. It is really good. I'm really feeling like I brought this up last year because they also had moments at the second half of last year and in 2022 when they won 101 games. Peter, I had those feelings that I would bring up. Like, in 86, I'd watch a Met game and I'd be shocked when they lost. Like, wait a minute, why didn't they come from behind and win? What's going on here? Like, it's starting to feel that way where I sit there and I just expect them to win the game. I see the bases loaded, one out, and I expect them to get out of the inning the way that they did. I expect them to score in the bottom of the 10th inning to win. Brazabon walked the lead off hitter in the sixth inning. Last night could have led to a big inning. They're holding on to that 2 to 1 lead. I expect them to get out of it. I expect them to add to the lead like they did last night. That's when you know you're following a team that's pretty special when they are not only living up to expectations, they're exceeding the expectations to the point where you just now expect good things to happen every time you watch or listen. And it's all right here on 880 eventually.
Peter Rosenberg
Exactly. And it's pretty cool, man, that it's happening early in the year. It's not like they started off slow and then we say no, this is like who they've been. It's pretty dope.
Don Hahn
I guess the starting off slow would have losing that series to Houston. Soto didn't hit. Felt like, oh, here we go. They lose two out of three to Houston. Doesn't look great. And then, and really they won't. And then the Minnesota like is it starting to happen? Peter? Minnesota's not good. They dropped two in a row. First team in Major League Baseball to have a two game losing streak or the last team to have a two game losing streak. They lose a series they should have won and they haven't lost since. Seven games since that loss to Minnesota in the series and they've won every game. Don't miss your chance to spring into deals at Lowe's right now. Peter Rosenberg
Well, I'm being very harsh because I went through such a rough experience. I'm trying to help you avoid it. 1-800-919-3776 Although why give out the number? Because every line is full right now.
Don Hahn
Oh really?
Peter Rosenberg
Oh yeah, sure it is. We're talking about the Mets. We're talking about the Yankees. Earlier, Don was talking about the greatness of Aaron judge. He's batting over.400 at the moment.
Don Hahn
But.
Peter Rosenberg
Danny's been on hold for a while. So let's start with our friend Danny. Hey, Danny.
Unknown
Good afternoon, boys. A lot of a lot of road covered so far today. First of all, One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest, Jack wins the Academy Award but is somehow overshadowed by Louise Fletcher, who wins the Academy Award for her role as Nurch Nurse Fletcher, Nurse Ratchet. Which is so disconcerting that 40 years later when I was in the hospital, my father and the nurse wouldn't give him an aspirin. He said to her, who are you? Nurse Ratchet? Yeah, that's how you have to be if you're a certain age. You know what that term means to the caller who wants to say that because Bernie Williams has championships and Aaron Judge does it, you're an idiot. I guess that means every member of the 1996 Yankees is better than Ted Williams and about another dozen ball players I can mention who never even made it to a World Series. Please. Before, by the way, the Yankees 1996 era started when they expanded the playoffs even further. Before that it was two divisions. The wild card era started when the Yankees had their run. And he also the fraud because he said as an Italian American, he roots for Piazza to hit home runs even against the Yankees. You should have hung up right there, Don. I was surprised to let that go by.
Don Hahn
I'm getting better in my age, I guess.
Unknown
Yes. Last but not least, a little something for Peter, his favorite phone call person of all time. I'm Driving home from the T ball game last weekend, 2:55, the great Ty Butler goes to Richard from Manhattan, who is not ready for the phone call and is overheard talking to his patient who is on the table, saying, I have to step out of the room for a while. And the patient says, what? I'll be right back. I'll do it. When they hang up the phone because they're so alarmed by what they hear. But Richard calls back and confirms he was stepping out on a patient to talk about to New York Knicks last seven playoff opponents.
Peter Rosenberg
Wait, is there a way we can find that?
Don Hahn
I might need to hear that.
Peter Rosenberg
What day was it?
Unknown
Saturday. Ty Butler, 255 in the afternoon.
Don Hahn
Saturday.
Peter Rosenberg
2:55, Ty Butler, Richard call. We're all right.
Don Hahn
Thank you. And also think about it. 255 on a Saturday. There's a very good chance that was an emergency appointment.
Unknown
I don't know. I don't know.
Don Hahn
How many 3 o'clock appointments do you make on a Saturday?
Peter Rosenberg
It's a great.
Don Hahn
Maybe like before noon. Like how many dentists are taking appointments after two on a Saturday? Unless it's an emergency.
Peter Rosenberg
Wow.
Unknown
Last but not least, let's just enjoy the Mets run. Because you don't go on these runs. There's going to be downfalls. And I always love when people say, can you imagine what Soto. When Soto starts hitting, and he will, but that'll be the three weeks that Alonzo doesn't hit. That's the way baseball is. If everybody hit at the same time, he'd win 140 games. It's not the nature of the game. The pitching every day, in and out. Not just the quality star, which we laugh at, which is five or six innings giving up three runs. They give up nothing. I think the runs today, unearned because there was an error in the middle of that two run Philly little thing. So this pitching staff is the story, period, full stop.
Don Hahn
It is. I forget what the streak is. Danny. I don't know if he's still there to answer.
Unknown
11 is something. 11 games in a row at home.
Don Hahn
Yeah, but no, but also what's the. They got like a streak of innings where the starters haven't a lot of.
Unknown
Homer in this day and age. Can you imagine that balls are flying.
Don Hahn
Out all the time. Does have Cannon go out there and give you, you know, the innings that he gave. They give you five innings, give you a chance to win games. I mean, that's. That's what it's about, right? That's what starting pitching is now, you know, give me five, six innings, give me a chance to win the game. I believe my offense is good enough that we're going to be able to win. And on a day where they only scored two runs through six, Canning's able to keep them still two to one. And the Mets were able to break it open later in the game. But that's the thing that's surprising. This is not. Senga is the only like real name starter that they have right now and they're still getting it done.
Peter Rosenberg
Let's go to Dennis in North Carolina. Hey, Dennis.
Don Hahn
Hey, Don.
Caller
What size shoe are you?
Don Hahn
Oh, boy, ten and a half.
Caller
I know what size clown boots to send over there.
Don Hahn
Yeah. What's your big story there, bucko? What you got going?
Caller
You really do think that judge is a bet is a better player than Jeter?
Don Hahn
Because I watch baseball. Do you think he's going to get.
Peter Rosenberg
99% of the hall of Fame vote?
Don Hahn
He might if he continues to play the way he's playing. Dude, if he continues the way. If he continues to play the way he's playing. Why wouldn't he?
Unknown
Well, if he continues to play the.
Don Hahn
Way he's playing, then they're never going.
Caller
To win the World Series.
Don Hahn
Hello. No, well, that's all you're about because you want to just dumb it down to championships.
Peter Rosenberg
So that's it.
Don Hahn
And you don't want to pay attention anything else. So. But let me ask you this, let me ask you this. So he could hit a thousand and hit 100 home runs a year. Now you're being. No, but, no but why don't you listen to what I'm talking about instead of being all right, goodbye. Goodbye. You don't. You're too dumb, Dennis.
Peter Rosenberg
You ruined it. I wanted to get to fight with you.
Don Hahn
No, because. Not because dumb. Yeah, he just, he's just too absolute stupid because he wouldn't let me make my point. My point is, is that it didn't matter whether he hits a thousand home runs unless he wins a championship, he's always going to be a bum. That's, that's the point he's trying to make. That's the pedestrian second grade point that he wanted to make. You couldn't afford clown shoes. I guarantee a completely high B, no job. Those are two things that I would go to the mat for. No one's employed him ever. Mommy and daddy. What about they own a gas station back in the day. Are you going virgin off a gas? Well, listen, there's. There are things he's Destroyed, no women.
Peter Rosenberg
Let's see.
Don Hahn
Got quite the handshake though.
Peter Rosenberg
It's strong.
Don Hahn
Popeye Army.
Peter Rosenberg
Derek Jeter.
Don Hahn
Notice I said arm, not arms.
Peter Rosenberg
Derek Jeter, for his career, sure. He batted.310, Don. He hit 260 home runs. He had 1300 RBIs. His OBP was.377. He slugged.440 OPS.817. His WAR was 71.3.
Don Hahn
Right.
Peter Rosenberg
Aaron Judge is batting.291 for his career. He has 322 home runs so far.741 RBIs, OBP.408. He's slugging.607. OPS of 1.016. Now, the WAR, but his WAR is 54 points.
Don Hahn
Well, because that's cumulative. Because he's played. Jeter, played longer. But the average war per year for Jeter, 4.2. For Judge, 8.7. Hey, you want to say Jeter's a better winner? You want to say Jeter's more clutch. You want to say Jeter is your favorite Yankee. For all those reasons, I can't argue with you. But if that's all you want to do is give championships, then. Ted Williams was a bum. Didn't win one. Ernie Banks was a bum, didn't win one. Tony Gwynn, Bum. Didn't win one.
Peter Rosenberg
Cal Ripken had one.
Don Hahn
Cal Ripken had one. George Brett had one. All these guys pale in comparison to Derek Jeter because Derek Jeter had five.
Peter Rosenberg
They all compared to. Pale compared to Jorge Posada.
Don Hahn
Yeah. And I mean, you name the player, they pale.
Peter Rosenberg
They didn't have the rings.
Don Hahn
You know, And I guess Robert Horry is one of the best basketball players all time. Like, how many rings does he have?
Peter Rosenberg
Such a complex argument. Now, this was alluded to and before we end the hour, because with tons of phone calls to get to in 5:00 about Mets and Yankees, here is the call between Ty and Richard.
Don Hahn
Okay.
Peter Rosenberg
This past Saturday, Richard in Manhattan.
Don Hahn
What's up, Richard? I really came from. Okay.
Caller
Yeah.
Unknown
When it gets.
Don Hahn
Comes out, I want to hear this.
Caller
Give me five minutes.
Peter Rosenberg
Wait a sec.
Don Hahn
Give me five minutes.
Caller
Oh, okay.
Don Hahn
No, no. Okay. Wow. Richard. If you're at work. Richard, it's cool, man.
Caller
Are you.
Unknown
Sorry about that.
Don Hahn
Wait, are you working?
Caller
Yeah, always.
Don Hahn
So is someone sitting in your chair right now that you just told they gotta wait so that you can get some takes off on the radio? No, they don't know.
Unknown
But sometimes, you know, I just could be distracted. Sorry about that, Ty.
Don Hahn
Here's the thing. Here's the thing that's classic about it. He's apologizing to Ty for making Ty weight. But meanwhile, his patients there, you know, at 3:00 on a Saturday, probably emergency surgery's gotta wait. And he's apologizing.
Peter Rosenberg
I just want to hear the beginning one more time.
Don Hahn
Richard in Manhattan. What's up, Richard? I really came for.
Caller
Okay, yeah.
Unknown
When it gets.
Don Hahn
Comes out. Wait, I want to hear this. Give me five minutes.
Peter Rosenberg
Wait inside.
Don Hahn
Give me five minutes.
Caller
Oh, okay.
Unknown
Don't rush.
Don Hahn
No, no. Okay, now.
Peter Rosenberg
And I will say this. She doesn't sound upset about it. She seems good with waiting. Five minutes. That was unbelievable.
Unknown
Thanks for listening to the Don, Han and Rosenberg podcast.

Podcast Summary: Don, Hahn & Rosenberg – Hour 2: Mets Walkoff and The List (Released April 23, 2025)
In the second hour of the "Don, Hahn & Rosenberg" podcast, hosts Don La Greca, Alan Hahn, and Peter Rosenberg deliver a spirited discussion centered on Major League Baseball’s New York Yankees and Mets, culminating in an engaging segment celebrating Jack Nicholson’s illustrious acting career. This episode, titled "Mets Walkoff and The List," offers listeners a blend of in-depth sports analysis, passionate fan interactions, and entertaining pop culture commentary.
The episode kicks off with Don Hahn providing a detailed rundown of the recent Yankees-Mets series. At [00:28], Don expresses his irritation with the Yankees’ performance but remains optimistic about the Mets' prospects:
Don Hahn: "At 4:30 we're gonna have a list. It's a good one. Overrated by yours truly. Yankees win 5:1. So they salvage a game in Cleveland."
He highlights the Mets' resilience, noting their comeback in the top of the 10th inning and the strategic pitching by Diaz:
Don Hahn: "Diaz did pitch the 9th and the 10th. He didn't have to pitch last night so he needed the work. And now we'll see if the Mets can at least get out of dodge here."
Peter Rosenberg concurs, emphasizing the competitiveness of both teams:
Peter Rosenberg: "This could be a year where we have every reason to think about these two teams being there at the end, particularly I think in the Yankees case because of the weakness of the AL."
The discussion underscores the Mets' strong start to the season, boasting a record of 18-7 and a run differential of +36, which is notably better than the Yankees'. Don praises Pete Alonso’s critical double that sealed the Mets' sweep of the Phillies:
Don Hahn: "Alonso slides in. Saf Top, Marte Parte, RBI single, walk off, win in the 10th, 4-3 Mets win."
A significant portion of the conversation revolves around Yankees’ superstar Aaron Judge. Don Hahn passionately advocates for Judge, arguing his case for being one of the greatest players in baseball history. At [02:03], Don highlights Judge’s exceptional batting average:
Don Hahn: "He's batting .415. Do you know how rare it is to have a guy that hits home runs and also hits for average?"
Peter Rosenberg acknowledges the rarity, adding:
Peter Rosenberg: "I'm well aware. It's so rare, even rare now."
Don further contends that Judge is on track for a Triple Crown:
Don Hahn: "He’s going to win a Triple Crown before he's done. It's going to happen this year because he's so consistent."
Comparing Judge to Shohei Ohtani, Don emphasizes Judge's offensive prowess and defensive contributions:
Don Hahn: "How do you quantify clutch? Yeah, he hit the home run for his 3,000th hit, got a game-winning RBI, his last at-bat lead."
Peter echoes Don's sentiments, praising the synergy between Judge, Lindor, and Alonso:
Peter Rosenberg: "My hunch, Don, is that he will at some point be there too. But even just for Judge and Lindor and how well these two teams are generally playing, this could be a year where we have every reason to think about these two teams being there at the end."
The podcast features heartfelt and intense listener calls that add depth to the discussion.
Emotional Caller – Josh: At [08:54], Josh shares a personal and emotional connection to Aaron Judge:
Caller Josh: "My grandfather was buried in a tuxedo and a Yankees stab, and my whole family's die-hard Yankee fans... to see him play is just an emotional thing for me."
Don responds with empathy:
Don Hahn: "Thanks."
Peter remarks on Josh’s heartfelt sentiment:
Peter Rosenberg: "Josh seems like a lovely man."
Heated Debate – Dave from The Bronx: A particularly fiery exchange occurs with Dave, an older listener from The Bronx, who passionately defends Derek Jeter over Aaron Judge. Starting around [12:00], Dave challenges Don’s assertion of Judge’s superiority:
Caller Dave: "I think Judge is a better player than Jeter. Is he as clutch? Does he have the rings? No, but Jeter is one of those guys that you're going to tell your kids about..."
Don counters vehemently:
Don Hahn: "They’d be wrong. He is a better baseball player than Derek Jeter. He’s batting better, hits more home runs, etc."
Peter attempts to mediate, but the debate intensifies, reflecting the deep-seated loyalties and differing perspectives among fans.
The hosts shift focus to the Mets' outstanding performance this season. Don Hahn highlights the team's impressive statistics:
Don Hahn: "The Mets have the best record in baseball. 18 and 7... a five-game lead on the Phillies."
He points out the Mets' superior run differential:
Don Hahn: "They've got a run differential of plus 36, five better than the Yankees. The start they got off to, it's the second-best run differential in baseball next to the Cubs, and also the only plus run differential in the entire division."
Peter Rosenberg adds to the praise, noting key players’ contributions:
Peter Rosenberg: "Alonso is absolutely raking right now. And the Mets sweep the Phillies, 4-3 in 10. This team, Don, is doing things. And they're doing it without Juan Soto playing."
Don elaborates on the roles of Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso, emphasizing how their performances have elevated the team:
Don Hahn: "Lindor could say, this is still my team. Or Pete could say, hey, this is still my team. And I think the presence of Soto has brought out the best in Lindor and Alonso."
The discussion underscores the Mets’ balanced team dynamics, resilience, and potential for a successful season.
Transitioning from sports, the podcast features a special segment titled "The List," where Don and Peter celebrate actor Jack Nicholson by ranking his top five movie roles.
Top Five Jack Nicholson Roles:
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
The Shining
Peter Rosenberg: "I'm gonna throw out the Shining at you."
Don Hahn: "It's got suspense. It's got just so much intrigue and weirdness to it. Jack’s role is amazing."
A Few Good Men
The Departed
Chinatown
Honorable Mentions:
Don and Peter discuss the depth and versatility of Nicholson’s performances, highlighting his ability to portray complex characters across various genres.
As the episode draws to a close, Don and Peter reflect on the Mets' promising season and encourage listeners to continue supporting their team. They emphasize the team's potential and the excitement surrounding their early successes:
Don Hahn: "This pitching staff is the story, period. If you want to put everything on rings, guess what? You win. He doesn't have a ring. I get it. But he is in the conversation as the best player in Major League Baseball."
Peter adds optimism about the Mets' trajectory:
Peter Rosenberg: "This is happening early in the year. It's pretty dope."
The hosts also tease upcoming discussions and express enthusiasm for the ongoing season, ensuring listeners stay engaged and tuned in for future episodes.
Hour 2 of "Don, Hahn & Rosenberg" masterfully intertwines passionate sports analysis with engaging listener interactions, all while celebrating cinematic excellence through "The List." Whether you're a die-hard Mets fan, a Yankees enthusiast, or a Jack Nicholson aficionado, this episode offers rich content that resonates with a diverse audience. The hosts' dynamic conversations and the heartfelt contributions from listeners create an immersive experience, making it a must-listen for sports and entertainment aficionados alike.
