This is Don Hahn and Rosenberg.
Peter Rosenberg
What do you want Tomlin to do? So for all those Steeler fans that want him gone, if I'm the Jets, I'm right there waiting. And then K mentioned and Bart agreed that they wouldn't give up the seventh overall pick for Tomlin. And I'm like, why? Who do jets take in at 7? That's going to turn your organization around the way Tomlin would turn around the Jets. You wouldn't want to have Tomlin as your head coach and be above.500 every year with a chance to go to the playoffs every year. And you haven't sniffed the playoffs since 2010. Who, seventh overall is going to turn your franchise around the way Mike Tomlin would turn the jets around?
Don Hahn
Jon Hahn and Rosenberg on 880 ESPN.
Rich Samini
All right, we're going to in a few minutes. We'll get back to your phone calls at 1-800-919-3776. It's all on the table for you. Whatever you want to discuss, we got you Peter and Don on this Monday. For the latest on all things jets, check out the Flight Deck. You know Flight Deck with Rich Samini, his Jets podcast on the ESPN New York app, wherever you get your podcast. And our friend Rich Samini joins us right now.
Peter Rosenberg
And I think the only reason it doesn't happen is because Rich would want to get paid. But I'm surprised he doesn't fill in on our station. Like, that's how good his podcast is. Like, he's a good host, he's a good guest, but I think he would be a very good host on stage.
Rich Samini
You hear that, Rich?
Wow, I appreciate that, Don. Good to be with you guys. Congrats on the new show, the new lineman. This is my first time with you guys, so it's pretty cool. Thanks for having me.
Oh, of course. We're happy you could make some time. You heard the. I assume in the rejoin you heard Don's point that he would do, he would do anything if you're a Jets fan, to get Mike Tomlin. First of all, do you agree with that sentiment as someone who covers the team and is there any world in which that's possible?
I do agree with Don on that I would trade the seventh pick to get Mike Tomlinson. Now, it would be different if I thought that seventh pick could lead me to a blue chip quarterback, but we know that's probably highly unlikely. So. Yeah, I mean, you're not only getting a coach who wins every year, but a coach would change the culture immediately. And we all know anybody who was in earshot of this radio station knows that the jets need a culture change. So I would do it. I mean, I absolutely would do it. Now, is it going to happen? I do not think so. I think the Steelers have let it be known, or at least through back channels, that they're not interested in trading Mike Tomlin, despite, what is it, six straight one and dones in the playoffs, something of that nature. So I don't think it's going to happen. It's fun to talk about, but I think he's going to stay there. But I'm with you, Don. I would absolutely do it if it were on the table.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. See, both things, to me, Rich, can be true. Where? All right. The Steelers feel it's getting a little stale. Maybe it's time for a new regime. Three coaches since 1969, it's just mind boggling to me. But also the fact that, you know, the jets want to be the Steelers. Right. They want that kind of consistency. And I would. I would just wonder. It'd be worth the phone call because I don't know if anybody else would be in a position to offer as high a pick as the jets would. Because I don't think they'd fire him, Rich. But I think if they heard the right offer, I think they'd entertain it. Would the jets even consider making that kind of an offer?
Rich Samini
I think they're pretty set in their process right now. They're pretty far along. I don't know if they'd be willing to audible at this point, but the only way maybe it would change is if Tomlin were to go to the Steelers and say, look, I love it here, but I think it's time for a change for both sides. You know, maybe out of respect to Tomlin, they would consider it then. We haven't heard from Mike Tomlin yet. I believe the rumblings out of the Steelers is that they want to keep him, but that would be the only way, I think, if they put it on the table. But I don't know if the jets would do that. I mean, they did that back in 1997 when Leon Hess just got fed up with all the losing after the Cotai era. And he just said, the hell with it. I'm going to go after Bill Parcells even if it takes a tampering or do whatever. And they ended up giving up a one, a two, a three and a four to get him. And I thought it was a good move, even though he never delivered a Super bowl championship. I thought it changed the culture for the jets and that's what they need now.
What, what else interests you out there right now in this coaching carousel? If, if you will?
Well, just as a footnote, this Jeff Ulbricht. They just announced that Jeff Ulbrich has completed his interview with the Jets.
Great.
You know, I, I do not believe they will be hiring Jeff Ulbricht as their full time coach. But I would say the names that intrigued me and I think intrigue the jets most right now are Aaron Glenn and Brian Flores. Now, they've already interviewed Glenn. Flores is going to come up this week. You know, obviously there's some very strict rules about when you can and can't talk to these coaches, but they've already interviewed Glenn. I think he'd be a very good choice for the Jets. Done a fabulous job as their D coordinator in Detroit. Former Jet we, you guys have talked about this earlier today, how good a player he was with the jets. And the one question of course is who, who would his offensive coordinator be? And I don't know the answer to that, but I think he's got a really good shot at this. This may come down to jets versus Saints in the Aaron Glenn sweepstakes, if you want to call it that. Now, I know I've kept in touch with Aaron over the years and I know from talking to people around him that he is really interested in the Jet shot. I mean, it's been a job that he's had his eye on for several years and I think he would love to come back home, so to speak, to coach the Jets. Flores, of course, has the head coaching experience that makes him intriguing. The downs, he would do wonders with the defense. Look what he's done in Minnesota. The downside is, you know, you know, he's got the loss. Not it's not that it's a downside. He's got the pending lawsuit against the league. Not that that would be a huge factor. But you know, some people skills were questioned in Miami, you know, with management. He went through offensive coordinators there. We know how Tula felt about him. He was pretty public about that. So that would be the question with Flores. But I would say those are the two favorites at this point, the way I see it.
Peter Rosenberg
So there'd be no interest in Mike McCarthy who became available today.
Rich Samini
You know, that's interesting, Don. I've done some reporting on this and I think McCarthy would be interested in talking to the Jets. I think the idea of reuniting with Rogers would intrigue him. I do not believe the jets have the same interest. They interviewed him in 2019. That was the year the Adam Gase cycle. We know how that ended up. They should have hired McCarthy then. I don't think they came away blown away by his interview. So they hired Gates and you know, two years later they were looking for another coach. So I think McCarthy is a good coach. He obviously hasn't won it all since 2010 with Rogers, but he, you know, he wins, he'll get you double digit wins. And he does have a good relationship with Rodgers, despite what some people think. I know Rogers has a lot of respect for him. You know, we're putting the cart before the horse there. I don't even know if Rodgers will be back. But the bottom line is I do not think the jets would be pursuing Mike McCarthy.
Peter Rosenberg
Now you mentioned Rogers. How much does he play in to the decision making for the head coach? Does it help or hinder their chances of being the coach on whether they want Rogers or not?
Rich Samini
Well, obviously it's coming up in these interviews as a point of discussion, like what's yet they're asking all these guys, what's your plan at quarterback? You know, how do you feel about Rodgers? And so I don't know how each candidate feels about Rodgers. My own gut feeling and I think I've told you this guys before, I think it's unlikely that he'll be back with the team. Woody Johnson is saying that he's going to defer that decision to his new GM and new coach. I think if it were up to Woody, and ultimately it is, it's his team, I think he'd rather move on in a different direction. So I think there'll be a new quarterback for the jets next year. I think maybe if it were, if they had Rabel, I think the chances of keeping Rogers would be better having an experienced veteran type coach. But we know that ship has sailed. And so the Rodgers thing is question number one. It'll be the first question in the press conference. Whoever this next coach is. It's like how do you feel about Aaron Rodgers? I'm sure it's one of the most one of the prominent questions in these interviews to these candidates.
Here's a good question for you, Rich, if I do say so myself, what wide receivers will be in that wide receiver room next year?
They may have an entirely new wide receiver room. I mean unless Malachi Corley floats your boat. But I don't think he does for most deck fans. Yeah, I think Alan Lazard will be a cap casualty. I think that's pretty obvious. Numbers pretty high. I think devonte Adams will probably move on unless for some reason Roger stays. I do not see devonte and the jets coming to an agreement on a restructured contract, which means they'll release him and he'll be a free agent and he'll get a good contract somewhere. You know, he had a good year and even though he missed a few games with that hamstring with the Raiders, he still went over a thousand yards. But I do not believe he will be back with Jets. Now the big question is Garrett Wilson. That's a 50, 50. I think right now he's taking some time away to think about things. From what I've been told, I think there's a good chance he's back. I think the new regime will come in and sit down with him and try to convince him about they're moving in the right direction. I don't think it's a personal thing with Wilson and Rodgers, you know, did they have some friction throughout the year? Yes, obviously. But I think for Wilson it's more about the winning and wanting to know the team is moving in the right direction. And of course he's up for a contract extension, so that's another variable. He could ask for 30 million a year, which is an awful lot of money. So those, you know, they'll have to factor that into the equation. But if I had to bet right now, I would say he's back. So one out of those top three receivers I think will be back.
Peter Rosenberg
So one last one for me. They've kept the head coach and the general manager separate, but will the head coach, who likely is going to be hired first, have a say on who his general manager is?
Rich Samini
No, I think it's going to be the other way around, Don. I think they're in the home stretch on this. GM okay. Talked. Yeah, I thought they've talked to 13 guys, believe it or not, and they got a couple more to go. They got Brian Gate from Buffalo and they have John Eric Sullivan from Green Bay. And as far as I know, that's it. Unless there's some, you know, names we don't know about yet. But once those guys are done, which should be in the next day or two, I think they'll bring. They could start like second round interviews and GM can be hired. If, for instance, let's say they hired. Just say they hired who I think is a real strong candidate, Mike Borgonzi from Chiefs. They could actually hire him right away. As long as the Chiefs give Written permission. So I do believe they'll have a GM in place before the coach is hired. The coach may take another two or three weeks, so they could get a Borgozzi or a Mike Greenberg from Tampa in place, I think, by the end of this week, if everything goes well, and then they could have that guy sit in on the second round of coaching interviews.
Rich, we appreciate you making time to talk with us, and we will talk to you soon.
All right, guys, Always good talking to you.
There he is. That is our very own Rich Samini of Flight Deck, the podcast. You can get it on the ESPN New York app, of course.
Peter Rosenberg
So they just. I don't know why you wouldn't be interested in Mike McCarthy. You wouldn't be interested in making a call because it doesn't sound like, well, we want to hold on to our seventh overall pick. So we're not going to go call the Steelers for Tomlin. It doesn't sound like they're interested in that. Now. Are they interested in that? Because they. Is it Tomlin? Like. Well, we're not interested in Tomlin because we know Tomlin wouldn't want to come here. Like. Like what happened with. With the. With the Detroit or, you know, with McCarthy, is it. Well, we don't want to do it because we don't want Rogers here. Like, why would you not kick the tires on two established head coaches?
Rich Samini
Maybe. Maybe the. Maybe the Tomlin thing's just not real. Like, that's not actually a thing that's going to happen. Who knows? The McCarthy thing. Listen, Don, at this stage, they just sat and went through an interview process with Brick. Okay, you can make time for super bowl winning coaches. Let's make some time. I'm with you. Kick the tires on everything. Why would you not.
Peter Rosenberg
I don't know why you wouldn't be open to established head coaches with success in this league. Unless you're just afraid that they're going to say no.
Rich Samini
That's. Well, that's a. That's a nonsense.
Peter Rosenberg
Now, Tomlin, Bob, I would think Tomlin's not going to want to come to the jets because they might not have a quarterback. Why would you want to go from a team that has established that finishes above.500 every single year? Although I'm not sure they're set at quarterback either. But certainly it's a lot clearer than. Is Roger staying or going? And if Roger stays, he's gonna be 42 in December. And McCarthy. Why would he want to come here? I think he would have other choices. I think he'd be the odds on favorite to go to the Bears. Yeah, you know, the Saints at least have car. Although that hasn't worked out well, so. Is it just being afraid to say no? It almost feels like the guy at the club that's afraid to go ask out the hot girl.
Rich Samini
I get it. It's scary.
Peter Rosenberg
So I'm gonna go with the ones I think are most likely gonna say yes rather than aiming for the. I don't. I don't know why you wouldn't be. Why. Why the trepidation? I don't think you gotta dare to be great. And if Mike McCarthy doesn't want to come here, hey, I get it. We're our quarterback. Situations in flux. We haven't been to the playoffs in 2010 since 2010. Tomlin, I get it. He doesn't want to come here. And maybe Tomlin doesn't go anywhere, so you don't have egg on your face, but Rich is as connected as anybody. It just doesn't sound like they're interested in even doing it. Why? Listen, I think Aaron Glenn could be a good head coach, but I don't know that. I can only think it. You know why? Because he's never been a head coach before. But you know what makes Aaron Glenn attractive? Peter. And this kind of feeds into the club analogy. He wants the job. You heard Rich say he's always wanted to come back to the job. Okay, so it sounds like you're only gonna be talking to people that you know are gonna salivate at the job. Who do you interview? Ulbricht, of course. You can interview Ulbricht. He's not gonna get a sniff anywhere else.
Rich Samini
Of course.
Peter Rosenberg
She interview Rex. Rex desperately wants this job. But. But you.
Rich Samini
You.
Peter Rosenberg
You do. You don't go out for the guys because you. We're not interested in. In him. Well, why the hell would you not be? It's.
Rich Samini
You got to dare to dream or else. There's a wise man I know named Don McGregor once said, maybe you're just in love with your own sadness. Let's go to Javier in Austin, Texas. Hey, Javier.
Hey.
Javier
How are you guys?
Rich Samini
Good, man. How are you?
Peter Rosenberg
Terrific.
Javier
I'm good. First time calling in.
Rich Samini
Oh, well, happy to have you. Happy to have you. Javier, what do you got for us in Austin, Texas?
Javier
Hey, so I'm a big Steelers fan, and I know you guys are thinking of as jets fans or New York fans of Tomlin, but the thing is, to me, with Tomlin, it's not. The winning seasons are fine, but I think you need to lose to be able to win again, to like to get better draft picks, things like that. And the other thing is it's how he loses in the playoffs. Like, I mean it was such a sour taste when I'm a big long time super channel when Tebow beat us and then later on we got slacked by the Jaguars when we were supposed to beat that team. And then in 2020 it was even worse. Like the Browns came in and they were up like 210 in the playoffs and Mike Tomlin's forte's defense and the defense never shows up in the playoffs. It's just, it's inexcusable. It's like, I get it, yes. Like offense and stuff, they should be scoring. Like I mean they're not going to be scoring but Maybe we went 1310, but the defense is not holding their, their end of the bargain.
Rich Samini
Listen, as we said by the way, Javier though, and thank you for joining us for the first time and hope to hear from you again. I understand why Steelers fan would be done with this.
Peter Rosenberg
Okay.
Rich Samini
Yeah, I do. I don't know whether I agree, but I definitely understand that doesn't change the fact that Don and I think the jets could still benefit from him.
Peter Rosenberg
Right. And you could, you could go back to the lost the Tim Tebow. Thank God. When was that 20?
Rich Samini
I think it's 10, 10 or 11.
Peter Rosenberg
But their last three losses in the playoffs have been to Kansas City, Buffalo and Baltimore. There's no shame in that.
Rich Samini
Yeah, they haven't been good enough to beat those teams.
Peter Rosenberg
Listen, I'd love to have them. I get a Steeler fan. You've seen every play. I can't say that I've seen every play. Nobody knows their team's coaches better than the fan base. But you know where the Steelers are and where the jets are are two completely different animals. And believe me, if I'm the Jets, I would definitely, definitely be throwing that seventh overall pick. But again, he's probably just afraid of being told no. Here's the example. Getting back to Aaron Glenn. They're interested in Aaron Glenn, but not Ben Johnson. They both come from the same fan, the same team. Right. One's a defensive guy, one's an offensive guy. Both are brilliant. Both are going to get head coaching jobs. You're going to talk to Glenn, but not Johnson. Why? Because you know Johnson wouldn't take the job because he doesn't know about the quarterback situation like you. That's not how you go about business. I don't think he'd Take the job. So I'm not gonna offer it to him. I'm sorry. I don't worry about perception. You know what's the worst, per se. You're actually interviewing Albrecht. He doesn't deserve that job. But you do the right thing and you interview him. I understand perception's important, but. So you're told no. I get it. You're trying to correct your situation. But maybe. Maybe they surprise you and go, okay, so you'd be told no. So what? Don't you try to go for the best, Peter. Don't you shoot for the best. You gotta sit there and tell your family, we're not really interested in Ben Johnson, but you're interested in Aaron Glenn.
Rich Samini
You gotta be willing to go for what you want. Just listen to how Don handles things.
Peter Rosenberg
I want your butt. When did you say that I want your butt?
Unknown
Somebody tweeted that you and Peter have a love fest when Michael's not here.
Peter Rosenberg
Or I want your butt.
Unknown
And then you said, I'd like to announce that I am leaving my wife for you, and I love you, and I want your butt.
Peter Rosenberg
I want your butt.
Unknown
That's what happened there.
Peter Rosenberg
And that's kind of kidding on the square, because I don't think I would have gone there unless I've been impressed with it before. Thank you.
Rich Samini
I don't know how to feel.
Peter Rosenberg
I don't know. I think we are the official show of high. Let's. Do you think our high audience carried over from one to the other? I think. I think we've got. I think we've gotten higher.
Rich Samini
We have to be getting higher, man. Because think about it. The new K show, the K solo vehicle breaking on baseball. He can't be hiding that.
Peter Rosenberg
And I'm not passing judgment, but I have a feeling the K show fans like the K fans. They didn't partake. The Han fans partake. I think we're a higher show now.
Rich Samini
So you think in terms of the personality, if you're a Michael supporter specifically, you're less likely to like the Boo Bonge than if you're a Han supporter.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, not only are you not liking the Boubons, you're probably blowing the whistle on people who do.
Rich Samini
Well, we know that to sometimes be a fact because we've heard Michael talk about how much he enjoys ratting people out.
Peter Rosenberg
Narcomania, right?
Rich Samini
Yeah, that's how Narcomania does. All right, I guess we got a break. We got to get to Tessa. Popo.
Peter Rosenberg
There's a Popo.
Rich Samini
There's someone in Popo. There's Vinny. We had a bunch of people on hold.
Peter Rosenberg
That's his birth name.

Rich Samini
You know, a friend of mine, another Commander's fan brought up is Matthew McConaughey, the biggest Commander fan celebrity.
Peter Rosenberg
So these are the three candidates I would think that you would have it would be Bradley Cooper, Matthew McConaughey.
Rich Samini
No, Cooper's an Eagles fan.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh no. Oh, that's right. Command. Because that's what I was thinking about. Who would be the biggest Eagle? Would be Bradley Cooper or Bradley Cooper or Kevin. No, I get you tell me, is he bigger than Jeffrey Wright? I would think so.
Rich Samini
Yes. Mahana is bigger than Jeffrey Wright.
Peter Rosenberg
And you say that Tom Cruise is fugazi because he had a relationship with Snipe. You don't?
Rich Samini
I don't think we'll ever see Tom Cruise at a game again. I don't think that's a thing. Is Dale Jr. Bigger than McConaughey? No.
Peter Rosenberg
He's big though.
Rich Samini
Now in my world, Wale the rapper is very big and like kind of a mascot for D.C. in general. Francis Tiafo is becoming a really big and well known fan.
Peter Rosenberg
Okay.
Rich Samini
And obviously he's becoming a big tennis star.
Peter Rosenberg
Josh Hart wouldn't be in that.
Rich Samini
No, not yet. He's in the ti.
Peter Rosenberg
Feel like we're missing somebody, though.
Rich Samini
Who else are we missing? That's a big. It's fun to go through team by team and think about the most notable fan. Cowboys have too many to even name.
Peter Rosenberg
I was mentioning to you that in the 75th anniversary of the NHL they had celebrity mascots for every team. They're supposed to be the super fan of every team. And you could tell some took it seriously and some did not. So this is 1991.
Rich Samini
Oh, wow. It's way back.
Peter Rosenberg
So the Buffalo Sabres was Jim Kelly. That's just an easy.
Rich Samini
Because Kelly has the Bills.
Peter Rosenberg
Michael J. Fox for some reason was the Bruins guy. I don't know why he wouldn't be the Canuck guy.
Rich Samini
By the way, I'll tell you this right now. Did you see Michael J. Fox getting his Medal of Freedom? That took me out. Yeah, absolutely. Took me out.
Peter Rosenberg
Dave Coulier for the Detroit Red Wings.
Rich Samini
Come on. Detroit has to have bigger.
Peter Rosenberg
Jim Belushi for the Chicago Blackhawks.
Rich Samini
That's very 91.
Peter Rosenberg
Ralph Macchio for the Islanders.
Rich Samini
That one might still hold.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, I think. I think he.
Rich Samini
I said next. I sat. I said, remember I sat next to Macho at a game last year?
Peter Rosenberg
You did.
Rich Samini
Next to him, two seats over.
Peter Rosenberg
Was he cool?
Rich Samini
Two years ago, he was wearing a mask. Didn't know it was him until the game was over. He wore a mask the entire game. It was like late. Covid.
Peter Rosenberg
Is it Kevin Connolly? Wouldn't be bigger right now for Montourage?
Rich Samini
No.
Peter Rosenberg
Okay. I just asked the question. I didn't know the answer. I don't need to be talked to like you're my wife. John Candy was the Kings.
Rich Samini
I love John Candy so much.
Peter Rosenberg
The Rangers took a knee. I thought it was Susan Sarandon. Anthony. The Rangers took a knee. The Ranger. Who was it? The Rangers did this? They might as well just said we're not on board. Marv Albert. They didn't want.
Rich Samini
Well, they didn't want to. So, guys, are we discovering something we should do as a show? Putting together the biggest. The mascot fan for each. There's a local teams or not even each local.
Peter Rosenberg
Let's try to keep it local. Keep it local.
Rich Samini
No, but I'm just trying to. Sports happens outside of.
I wonder who.
Peter Rosenberg
The Winnipeg Jets.
Rich Samini
No, no, I was saying NFL. I was thinking NFL.
Peter Rosenberg
Like that seems even hard. Like who would the Jaguars biggest fan be?
Rich Samini
Tony Khan. No, he owns the Jaguars.
Peter Rosenberg
That Would be.
Rich Samini
Although the ownership would be. But if we were to keep it local. Okay, local.
Peter Rosenberg
Who would it be? Is Spike Lee the biggest Knick fan? It's got to be Spike, right?
Rich Samini
He's the ma. He's literally the master.
Peter Rosenberg
I know. But also, listen, they've got a lot.
Rich Samini
Of big time Stillers competing.
Peter Rosenberg
But this is Spike Lee.
Rich Samini
But this is Spike Lee.
Peter Rosenberg
But you know, Ben Stiller's, you know, right there. Listen, Rangers.
Rich Samini
Rangers have a lot too, though. Who do you think?
Peter Rosenberg
I don't know. He's. He's there all the time. I believe he's a big fan. I don't know how die Hard he is. Liam Neeson would be huge. Right.
Rich Samini
Anthony, you support this.
Unknown
Steve Sharipa is like New York fan. He's at like Ranger games.
Rich Samini
Listen, we love Steve. We love. But if you. If you tested the people, if they knew what his real government name was, he. We can't put him up there next to Liam Neeson.
Peter Rosenberg
No, respectfully, but Susan Sarandon is a legitimate fan.
Rich Samini
Susan. And she is very famous.
Peter Rosenberg
So that. That would be in the conversation. Okay, Islanders. It probably still is Ralph Macchiato.
Unknown
I think it's still Ralph Macho.
Rich Samini
It's Macchio for sure. He's still there. Hardcore Giants. Who is the biggest Giants fan?
Peter Rosenberg
I have to think about that. We're probably need some help.
Unknown
Dave Rothenberg.
Rich Samini
Yeah, it's true. Big fan.
Peter Rosenberg
Jet. There's a bunch of Jet fans. Jets, right. Adam Sandler.
Rich Samini
I mean, I know Greenie is like media technically, but Craney's kind of the mascot. It is true, but Greeny's kind of the mascot.
Peter Rosenberg
No offense. I want to do better than Greeny.
Rich Samini
Oh, my God. But he's very well known.
Peter Rosenberg
I'm not saying. Saying he's not, but you mean like movie.
Rich Samini
You want a movie star or a rock star? Who is. Oh, is Q Tip. We talked.
Peter Rosenberg
Q Tip will be in the conversation.
Rich Samini
Method man, huge fan. Was on the show last year on Hard Knocks.
Unknown
Fireman Ed.
Rich Samini
Fireman Ed, of course. Like, is there. Who else are we forgetting? That's a big. You're sure about Sandler? Oh, Larry David's a big Jet fan too.
Unknown
Yeah, Larry David is a big Ranger fan.
Rich Samini
We're a big Ranger fan.
Unknown
But he's not as. We didn't know that until we interviewed him. Correct.
Rich Samini
No, about.

So like that. Like Sarandon, everybody knows. And Liam Neeson, he's at the games.
Rich Samini
That's the true LD people don't.
Peter Rosenberg
So would Billy Crystal be the biggest Yankee guy? Would you could you get bit bigger than Billy Crystal?
Rich Samini
I mean, they're so. It's the Yankees. Jay Z's a Yankee fan.
Peter Rosenberg
I understand, but I think he's, I don't think he's.
Rich Samini
You think he's fugazi.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, not for. I don't think he's sitting there living and dying watching every game.
Rich Samini
Correct. Well, so, so Jay Z's bigger than Billy Crystal, but Billy Crystal's bigger fan.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, the reason, listen, we put. The Michael K show is a fine show, but I think Billy stumbled upon it because of all the Yankee games he's watching and wanting to hear about the Yankees. I don't think Jay Z'd be tuning in to a radio every night. You know, he's not rubbing his hands during the trade deadline going, oh my.
Rich Samini
God, what are they gonna do today?
Don Hahn

The episode kicks off with a passionate discussion about the potential trade of Pittsburgh Steelers’ head coach Mike Tomlin to the New York Jets. Don Hahn vocalizes a strong desire to bring Tomlin on board, emphasizing his track record of consistent winning and cultural transformation.
"You wouldn't want to have Tomlin as your head coach and be above .500 every year with a chance to go to the playoffs every year. And you haven't sniffed the playoffs since 2010. Who, seventh overall is going to turn your franchise around the way Mike Tomlin would turn the Jets around?"
[00:04]
Peter Rosenberg supports this sentiment by questioning the Jets' reluctance to trade their seventh overall pick for Tomlin, highlighting the transformative impact Tomlin could have on the struggling franchise.
"The jets want to be the Steelers. Right. They want that kind of consistency. And I would just wonder. It'd be worth the phone call because I don't know if anybody else would be in a position to offer as high a pick as the jets would."
[03:00]
Rich Samini agrees wholeheartedly, elaborating on the cultural changes Tomlin could instill and drawing parallels with the Jets' past coaching decisions.
"I do agree with Don on that I would trade the seventh pick to get Mike Tomlinson. ... anybody who was in earshot of this radio station knows that the jets need a culture change. So I would do it."

The conversation shifts to other viable head coaching candidates for the Jets, with Rich Samini highlighting Aaron Glenn and Brian Flores as top contenders.
"The names that intrigued me and I think intrigue the jets most right now are Aaron Glenn and Brian Flores."
[04:37]
Aaron Glenn, lauded for his defensive prowess and previous tenure with the Jets as a player, is seen as a strong candidate who understands the team's culture.
Brian Flores, with his head coaching experience and success in Minnesota, is another favored option. However, his pending lawsuit and previous management issues in Miami are potential hurdles.
"The downside is, you know, he’s got the pending lawsuit against the league. ... he went through offensive coordinators there."
[04:45]
Timestamp: [06:29] - [07:34]
Peter Rosenberg brings up Mike McCarthy, who became available recently, questioning why the Jets might overlook an established coach like him.
"So there'd be no interest in Mike McCarthy who became available today."
[06:29]
Rich Samini responds by expressing skepticism about the Jets pursuing McCarthy, citing his past interview experiences and the team's preference for other candidates.
"I do not think the jets would be pursuing Mike McCarthy."
[07:34]
Timestamp: [07:34] - [11:56]
The discussion delves into the critical role Aaron Rodgers plays in the Jets' future, pondering whether the next head coach will stay or move on from Rodgers.
"The Rodgers thing is question number one. It'll be the first question in the press conference. ... how do you feel about Aaron Rodgers?"
[07:48]
The hosts debate the likelihood of Rodgers remaining with the team, especially under new leadership, and how this uncertainty affects potential coaching hires.
Timestamp: [08:51] - [10:35]
Attention turns to the Jets' wide receiver lineup, with Rich Samini predicting significant changes.
"I do not believe he [Devonte Adams] will be back with Jets. ... but Garrett Wilson is a 50, 50. I think right now he's taking some time away to think about things."
[09:00]
The discussion highlights the potential departure of key players like Devonte Adams and questions the future of Garrett Wilson, contingent on contract negotiations and team direction.
Timestamp: [10:35] - [11:56]
Rich Samini outlines the Jets' approach to hiring a General Manager (GM) before finalizing the head coach, emphasizing the structured interview process.
"I think they're in the home stretch on this. GM okay. Talked. ... they could have that guy sit in on the second round of coaching interviews."
